Dan Patrick
You are listening to the Dan Patrick show on Fox Sports Radio. It's hour two on this Wednesday. Dan and the Danettes Dan Patrick Show. Once again, thoughts and prayers with everybody out in Los Angeles, Pacific Palisades and the devastation. It, it looks like it's out of a movie, but it's real. And I mentioned first hour, I was actually texting. I Woke up at 2 in the morning, saw a text from a friend in Los Angeles and he was telling me what was going on as he's evacuating his family. He ended up losing his house, I found out this morning. But the devastation, even when you get out, your family gets out, you still, you've lost your home. And you know, we certainly went through this with Reggie Miller when they had the fires a couple of years ago. It's just, you know, you're watching it and know I'm thinking of those families, but I'm also thinking of those firefighters. Because if you're a firefighter in the state of California, you're on call and it just feels like it's not a question of if but when. But the brave men and women first responders, my, my heart goes out to you because you're going to be there and that they're trying to get this under control. But the winds are so strong, you know, 70, 80 miles per hour. And as my friend said as he's getting his family out, he said I'm evacuating. I don't know what direction to go in. He said I'm and I'm supposed to be strong for my daughters. And he said, you know what? I'm a coward. I was like, you're not. So pretty emotional last night for me at two in the morning where he's doesn't know where to go because of the winds whipping around there and then ended up losing his home. We'll check in with Chase Daniel. Chase Daniel driving up from San Diego. He works for Fox, The Fox Sports 1 show the facility and I'm sure probably navigating these fires there and he'll join us coming up here in a little bit. 8773 DP Show Email address dpdanpatrick.com Twitter handle @dpshow Stat of the Day brought to you by Panini America. The official trading cards of the Dan Patrick, Good morning. If you're watching on Peacock, thank you for downloading the app. The gang's all here. The minister of humor, Fritzi Seaton, Marv Poly, yours truly in the back room. Guys, NBA Tonight. I know it may not sound exciting, but it is for me. You got national tv. You got my Cavaliers against my Oklahoma City Thunder, two best teams. Wait, what's wait, can you have both? They can both be yours. Yeah. Like I was on their bandwagons years ago. Didn't I, didn't I give you the Cabs where I said they're going to surprise then? Was I on the Cabs bandwagon early? You were okay. Was I on OK Casey a couple of years ago. You're the only person watching. Yes, I was. And you have the spurs against the Bucks, both national tv. So I got Wemby and I got Giannis. That's fun. And I, I said this, I know it sounded like it was hyperbole. It's not. I think Victor Wunyama is going to be an MVP before he's 25. His like his progression is crazy great and he then he just kind of figuring this out still. And you watch him sometimes and it's when I saw him against Joker and then Joker said you know what, we're going to be talking about him forever but if you can play offense and defense he's he's skilled offensive player. And then you add the defensive portion of this and you probably have the best two way player in the game right now. Should have been defensive player of the year last Year. Yes, Marvin. If Giannis is the Greek freak, is Wemby the super freak? Oh, okay. Oh, super freaky. Yeah. Thank you, Todd. Yes, Paul.
Marv Albert
He's up to 26 points per game. He's up to four blocks, both up from last year. 11 rebounds.
Dan Patrick
Shoot.
Marv Albert
His three point percentage is up from 32 to 37.
Dan Patrick
I know. It's. Once again, if. If you don't get him now, you're not going to get him like he is now. They don't have a good team. That's a problem. But I kept saying, if you got him a good point guard, then I'd like to see what he can do because he really needed somebody to direct him and put him in position. I did watch basketball last night and I. I started out by going, all right, let me see how good Tennessee basketball is. Oh, wow, that was ugly. Florida dominated Tennessee. So Tennessee, number one team in the country, they lost 73 to 43. The last time a number one team lost by that kind of a margin, Houston lost to UCLA. 101. 69. I believe that was in. I don't know if that was the national title game. Maybe it was semi. But that's when Elvin Hayes beat Lou Alcindor in the Astrodome, when Lou had the scratched cornea. Then they played again in the NCAA tournament and 10169 your final. That was 1968. Start of the day, start of the day.
Marv Albert
Start of the day, Start of the day.
Dan Patrick
This is the start of the day. 1968, UCL Bruins. So Lu Alcindor. I don't know if you had Mike Warren.
Marv Albert
Yeah, you do.
Dan Patrick
Okay. Was Kenny Heights on that team?
Marv Albert
Off the bench?
Dan Patrick
Was Lynn Shackelford on that team?
Marv Albert
Starting.
Dan Patrick
Okay. Lucius Allen.
Chase Daniel
Yep.
Dan Patrick
Who else would have been on?
Marv Albert
This is wheelhouse for you?
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Marv Albert
This whole concept.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, it is. Yeah. And I was so bummed. I was so bummed when UCLA lost to Elvin Hay. Elvin Hayes was awesome that night. I think he had 39 in the game in the Astrodome, but, you know, Lou Alcindor had a patch over his eye and, you know, did not have a good night shooting, and they ended up losing that game. But Elvin Hayes, Sports Illustrated had a photo of him shooting a jumper. It's like, I don't know, it said Biggie or something. But 39, I think, in that game. But that's what it was a long, long time ago. But Tennessee not ready yet. Florida played great, though. Give them credit. I watched Trey Young. He put up 24 and 20 in the game winning shot. Steph Curry had 31 points. Warriors lost. Steph Curry didn't have an assist. That's the second consecutive game that he has gone with without an. That's almost impossible, isn't it, for somebody who has the ball that much? But yeah, he. He did that last night. What else did I see? The Trey Young thing, you know, dishing out 20 assists. It doesn't happen very often because I don't. They're not sexy stats. Now you want threes. You don't want. You know, go back when Stockton was doing it. You had guys who took great pride and getting 10, 11, 12 assists. Stockton, I think, had 15 assists maybe one year. But I don't. I don't know if it's that. I think you like to have a great pass. I don't think you like to be passing all the time. Yes, Marv.
Marv Albert
I think because the NBA lacks pure.
Dan Patrick
Point guards like the Mark Jacksons of the world, those guys that I give you the ball. Well, I don't. I don't miss Mark Jackson. Wait. I don't miss that style. That was boring. You didn't like him posting up? No, backing in, backing in, backing and. No, I did not like that. That was not good. You know, give me Tim Hardaway. You know, Timmy could get you nine. Nine dimes and push off of the forearm and then hit the jumper and a crossover from here to there. Yeah, but was Iverson that first point guard who was about points?
Chase Daniel
Wait, he was just a guard?
Dan Patrick
I don't even think he was a point guard. The only reason they called him a point guard because he was six. Besides. Yeah, yeah, that's it. Yeah. There's just an undersized two. Yeah. And then LeBron had a dunk last night. Now, okay, people are going to focus on the dunk. The Lakers should be embarrassed. Luca didn't play, Kyrie didn't play, and you lose to the Mavericks. What are we doing here but LeBron's dunk now, you know when they show the Jordan highlights and in the NBA Finals, he goes in with the right arm and then he switches to the left arm. He doesn't have to, like, there's nobody guarding him that he has to switch. But we're like, oh, my God, did you see that? This dunk by LeBron is a thousand times more impressive than what Mike did with the. I got it in my right hand and I'm going to bring it in my left hand and kiss it off the glass. LeBron down the lane with the ball in his right hand, switches over and then dunks it. Very impressive. The problem was the rest of the game, nobody was really impressive with the Lakers. They're just an average team. Yeah. They'll be one of the eight seeds out there, I'm guessing. How about Zion? A Zion Williamson sighting last night. And I. I'm watching. I go, wait, Zion's there. So there's a steal against the Timberwolves. And he goes in and he does a 360. Now, I don't. I like the 360. Given that he's always hurt, I would have liked a nice crisp layup. I would have.
Marv Albert
How about a 320? Just take a little off the top.
Dan Patrick
I mean, it's impressive. And then Cooper flag. Fly the flag. That dunk against Pitt on the break. Oh, coast to coast poster. That poor guy. Oh, my God, I felt bad for him.
Marv Albert
White on white crime.
Dan Patrick
Yes. Yes, it was. And then the Cameron Crazies went crazy. But yeah, that was. That was pretty impressive last night. Yes. Marv, if you're a fan of the Jazz or the Pelicans, let's capture. Or the Wizards. Let's play capture the flag. That's right. And if you're Cooper flag. Are you keeping an eye on the standings? At what point does he go? Let me see. Where am I going? Oh, God. You imagine if he goes to the. That's not fair. If he goes to the Wizards, it's just not. So you're going to have Utah in there. Toronto's in there. We can't export him. Although maybe Canada is part of the United States then. And then New Orleans is in there. I know New Orleans. I just don't think Zion. But I don't know what you get for the trade market. They've been trying to trade Brandon Ingram like I did some. It's. That's a mess. Yes. Todd, can you refuse to go to the Wizards like they do in the NFL? What's the rule per sport? I'm like, I'm not going there. Yeah. Yeah. Seaton, you have.
Todd Fritz
If you start going a little further down, though, maybe into. It'd be interesting if they traded up area at 8 right now would be Oklahoma City.
Dan Patrick
That's kind of fun.
Todd Fritz
You have Houston at 9. At 9.
Dan Patrick
Oklahoma City has more draft picks than anybody in the history of the NBA. They have more draft picks than everybody in the NBA right now, it feels like. But I. You can't pass up Cooper flag. You can't. For the Wizards or whoever that that team is when you're on the clock. You're like, they shouldn't be waiting to get the card in. The commissioner should be like, I'm gonna stay right here. Yeah, you're taking Cooper flag, right? Okay, man. And the wizard select Cooper Flag. Yes, yes. Todd. He can salute the flag in D.C. if he goes to the Wizard. We're working, we're workshopping this. Capture the flag, salute the flag. Okay. Anything else?
Todd Fritz
Half staff on a five game losing streak.
Dan Patrick
Okay, I like it. Okay, okay, so poll question for hour two. Let's. Let's clean up hour one. Come on now. I pledge allegiance to the flag.
Todd Fritz
Well, it's pledge allegiance. The thing when he. Does he have a shoe deal yet? Is that what you say? Pledge allegiance. And it's him.
Dan Patrick
Cooper flag said, are we got now? Yeah. What kind of shoe is he gonna have? You can't do the American flag on your shoe, right? Yeah. Mark, if he goes to the Wizards, that kind of their colors. Yeah. Red, white and blue. Well, you don't just make them your.
Todd Fritz
Colors, but they Sixers, maybe somehow.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Todd Fritz
Probably not.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, he won't be going to six. Won't be going there. Okay, poll question for hour two is going to be.
Todd Fritz
Well, how about which head coachless team feels furthest from the Super Bowl? We were discussing this earlier. Right now there's one team with 41%.
Dan Patrick
Of the vote, the Jets. J, E, Z.
Todd Fritz
So if we reverse those though, you would think that then the teams with the least amount of votes would be closest to the Super Bowl, Correct?
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Todd Fritz
Okay. And right now the Bears followed by the Patriots, then Saints, Raiders, Jaguars, Jets. Okay, yeah, yeah, that's all happening. Then I put up a couple of other ones too, without really discussing them with you guys, but we kind of flirted with them a little bit. NFC road team most likely to win this weekend, packers at Eagles, Vikings at Rams. Commanders at Buccaneers. Right now, Vikings at rams has about 55% of that vote.
Dan Patrick
Our good buddy Albert Brear, Monday morning quarterback, says Aaron Glenn will interview with the jets tomorrow, then the Saints on Friday, and they of course have a bye week. I'm going to guess the Jaguars and the Bears are going to be in there over the weekend as well. That's a good week. You beat Minnesota, you shut down Sam Darnold in that offense, a depleted defense, and now everybody wants to talk to you, and rightfully so. You know what happens during these broadcasts and, and you probably notice this. You'll have the analyst who falls in love with an assistant coach and there's certain Analysts where it'll be just that guy is, you know, Steve Spagnola. When you watch a Chiefs game, he gets mentioned almost as many times as Andy Reid, if not more. Yes. Let's see what Spags dials up on this Todd Monket. Oh, no, don't get me started.
Marv Albert
A lot of monkey in the past three years.
Dan Patrick
A lot of Monken. Kirk. Herb street likes Todd Monkin. Yeah. What's he gonna dial up here?
Marv Albert
Yes, Paul, a big one last year and this year until he recently got fired. Lou Anarumo with the Bengals.
Dan Patrick
Oh, yeah, Lou.
Marv Albert
Anna Rumo's dialing up a blitz.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Marv Albert
Not just a blitz.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Hey, he's going to be head coach in this league one of these days. But then you get these certain guys and these, these assistant coaches, coordinators must give these analysts a little bit extra. So you want to give them a little bit of extra, you know, like, oh, yeah, let's see what. But Spags. Spags is always dialing up something. And it's fun to say certain names. Ann Arumo. Spags.
Todd Fritz
Kind of.
Dan Patrick
They roll up the tongue. Yeah. There's one other pet peeve I have. Why is it the big tight end? Right. I've never seen a real small tight end, a minuscule tight end. He's really making a lot of plays. Yeah. Oh, he threw it to his big tight end. Okay. Yes, Paul.
Marv Albert
Also, I used to be bothered by young rookie quarterbacks, but now there's a difference.
Dan Patrick
They could be 24, 25.
Marv Albert
Right. You got to specify.
Dan Patrick
All right, we'll talk to Chase Daniel. He watches a whole lot of tape. He'll be joining us on loan from Fox Sports. We'll take a break. We're back after this Dan Patrick show. Now, I don't know if you have the update, but, like, all the little thumbs up and heart and stuff, like, it's all colored. They changed it and the. The heart's a little pink. It felt like I told you I loved you. I'm going to be honest, it was a little pink.
Dan Patrick
There was something sentimental when you. Like when.
Marv Albert
When you send it, you.
Dan Patrick
It's like, do I send the heart now?
Todd Fritz
I don't like the color edition.
Dan Patrick
It's extremely pink.
Todd Fritz
Listen to Lots to say with Bobby Bones and Matt Castle on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Dan Patrick
Before we get to chase Daniel, as I was walking into my side of the studio, Paulie goes quick NBA quiz. I said, okay, I'm all for a quick NBA quiz.
Marv Albert
The NBA player. And it has to be someone who played a long time.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Marv Albert
Who had the most career points and fewest career assists?
Dan Patrick
Okay, one name came to mind right away. I think he ended up with 26,000 points. Alex English.
Marv Albert
He is not in the top eight. Damn, this player was big in the 70s and 80s.
Dan Patrick
Big in the 70s and the 80s. By big, you mean a big man?
Marv Albert
Both.
Dan Patrick
Both big man. 70s, 80s. Like to shoot. Didn't like to pass. Marvin, you got somebody?
Marv Albert
Nate Thurman? No, but you're going the right direction. Maybe a little Bigger name even. Yeah, definitely a bigger name.
Dan Patrick
Okay, Todd, you got one. Wes Unselled.
Marv Albert
No.
Dan Patrick
Seaton.
Todd Fritz
Well, I was going towards a big man, especially those. So I went right to the like, say the top of the scoring list. But I don't know if Kareem.
Marv Albert
Now he had him. I'll give you some hints. Here's some names on the list. A modern day guy, Dirk Nowitzki. Oh, a lot of shots, not a lot of assists.
Dan Patrick
Dude doesn't pass.
Marv Albert
Bob McAdoo's on the list.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I could see that.
Marv Albert
Elvin Hayes is on the list.
Dan Patrick
I could see that.
Marv Albert
Patrick Ewing is on the list.
Todd Fritz
What about Akeem Olajuwon?
Dan Patrick
Is he up there?
Marv Albert
No, this guy padded his rebounding stats, Dan.
Dan Patrick
Padded.
Marv Albert
He would get like stickbacks and go up for shots.
Dan Patrick
And pat Moses Malone.
Marv Albert
Moses Malone is correct. 20.6 points per game, 1.4 assists per game. Who is the active leader in most points, fewest assists per game?
Dan Patrick
Active NBA player Klay Thompson.
Marv Albert
Now, I don't have him in the top 10.
Dan Patrick
Okay. Overrated.
Marv Albert
Most of our big guys. I don't really. I've only got a guard or two on the list.
Dan Patrick
Carl Anthony Towns.
Marv Albert
He's third. He's third on the list. It's not coming back out.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, well, they called Kevin McHale the Black Hole. Once it went in, it wasn't coming back out. Yes, Marv Julius Randall.
Marv Albert
Didn't make it. A couple names on the list. DeMar DeRozan. Zach Levine. Wembanyama. Paul George. Not a big assist guy. Jason Tatum. Only 3.7 assists.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Marv Albert
This guy plays on the west coast, the top two play and kind of play on the West Coast.
Dan Patrick
Kind of play on the West Coast.
Marv Albert
Yes, Marv Devin Booker kind of play is the hint. Doesn't always.
Dan Patrick
Oh, Kawhi Leonard.
Marv Albert
K. Leonard's correct. He's second. There you go, Dan.
Chase Daniel
You like that hint.
Marv Albert
Didn't you see?
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Who's number one?
Marv Albert
Anthony Davis. 24 points per game. Two dimes a game is a K.
Dan Patrick
The kids like to say two dimes. Chase Daniel, co host of the Athletic Scoop City Podcast, host of the Chase Daniel show on YouTube and co host of the Facility on Fox Sports. One Chase joining us from his car, driving through Los Angeles. How would you describe what it's like driving through Los Angeles right now?
Chase Daniel
You know, I'm on the 10 right now and getting, trying to get to work. You know, Fox is about 6 miles from Pacific Palisades. Also, there's a huge brush fire going in Pasadena, but I'm going through downtown LA right now. Traffic, a ton of smoke, maybe some fog, but it smells. I mean, I started smelling smoke about 10 miles south of downtown L. A. So just trying to get through this. You know, it's a lot worse than probably what people think. Pacific Palisades, one of the premier neighborhoods in L. A. I mean, it's just burned to the ground. It's going up to Malibu right now. Just a really scary, scary thought for a lot of these people. 30,000 people already evacuated and it's zero percent contained. And the crazy thing about it, dan, is there's 99 mile per hour wind gusts.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Chase Daniel
And so that's the, that's the difficult thing here for these firefighters trying to contain it.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. I was live texting with somebody who lives in the Pacific Palisades over by Riviera, and he was evacuating. You know, he said, I. You don't even know where to go. He said, I don't know what direction.
Chase Daniel
Exactly and there's some road closures around, so we're having to do that. But my wife and I literally were in Pacific Palisades Village. The whole thing burning and the houses were. We were there this weekend. We did a staycation up from San Diego where we live, and just saw it for the first time. I was just amazed at how nice it was. I think it was built in 2018 and it's just completely devastated right now.
Dan Patrick
I'll make the awkward segue. So we do talk some football here. More surprised that Gerard Mayo was fired or Antonio Pierce.
Chase Daniel
For me, I think it was Gerard Mayo. I think that was a surprise firing of the cycle. Look, I don't agree with it either. You bring him in. What did you think was going to happen when you, when you draft Drake May? Your. Your entire team, really your offensive weapons not where you want it to be. Look what Belichick did in his last season. And you, you know, you have this coach in waiting term for him that he's had for a while and you just give up on him for. For one year. Doesn't make a lot of sense. And you don't even start Drake May at the start of the season. I think things could have been different. Like they're like, oh, he's not ready, he's not ready. Well, he's played exceptionally well, shown some growth. This firing to me is two things. One, I guess that Robert Kraft and the Patriots didn't like the progression and the developmental plan for Drake May. And to like it just screams Mike Brable and so it looks like, you know, who knows what direction they'll go. I just think he got the raw end of the deal, in my opinion.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, but then Antonio Pierce gets fired, which I wasn't surprised. I thought Tom Brady's fingerprints are going to be all over this franchise, right?
Chase Daniel
Yeah. I mean, there's no doubt about it. That was the one. You know, you go 5 and 4 as an interim coach and I think they were 4 and 13 or something like that. It comes down for me with the Raiders and Tom Telesco, which I like Tom, they didn't get a quarterback this past year. They could have easily had the ammo to move up to get one of the top six guys. I mean, look at what Bo Nix has done.
Dan Patrick
Right.
Chase Daniel
They end up with Brock Bowers. I understand that, but I mean, this definitely has Tom Brady's fingerprints. He's going to have a say in the next head coach. So then you look at who, who's out there for him. It's like, oh, well, Rabel as well. So it just seems like Rabel's name keeps coming up everywhere.
Dan Patrick
Well, give me the, the best opening right now.
Chase Daniel
You know, for me, I'm a huge Chicago Bears fan and I like what the Chicago Bears have done. I like what they have on defense, I like what they have on offense. They got to get Caleb playing well. But one of the, one of the main openings that I think actually would attract some people and you're going to think I'm crazy for saying this is the Patriots job because you do have your franchise quarterback. I would argue that Drake May, along with Jaden Daniels are probably the top two quarterbacks that have developed throughout the entire year. They have their guy in Drake May. I fully believe that. And they have a lot of cap space to spend in free agency. So it depends on who they get. But I like, I like both those. I'd probably lean Patriots for me.
Dan Patrick
Do you have to have an offensive minded head coach? Like what's more important to a quarterback's development? Your offensive coordinator or your head coach?
Chase Daniel
Oh, I think it's your head coach. There's no really more, there's no more important relationship in my opinion based on the teams I've been in, the hall of Fame coaches I've been with that relationship between a head coach and a quarterback.
Dan Patrick
Right.
Chase Daniel
I just have said this always about defensive head coaches and I've been with few. I've been with two of them. Brandon Staley and the guy in Detroit who got fired, Matt Patricia. Everything is the quarterback's fault when it goes wrong or everything is the offense's fault.
Dan Patrick
Right.
Chase Daniel
And I think that when you have an offensive minded guy, he protects the quarterback a little bit. So when you have these young quarterbacks and when stuff doesn't go right, I've just seen things go awry when a defensive head coach takes over because it's never their fault.
Dan Patrick
We're talking to Chase Daniel, co host of the Athletic Scoop City podcast, also the Chase Daniels show on YouTube, which is great. He breaks down more film probably than anybody. And co host of the facility on Fox Sports 1. Speaking of breaking down film, I'm curious, what if the Ravens go back and look at what Lamar did or didn't do these previous playoff appearances and you're going against a familiar opponent here. What do you think the Ravens will do differently or Lamar differently to get them past that first round?
Chase Daniel
Yeah, that's a good question, man. And everyone knows you know Lamar Jackson's career playoff record, two and four, nine touchdowns, nine turnovers in his career in the playoffs, a one to one ratio. He was at a five to one ratio this year. Dan, for me, when you're playing a team for the third time and I've done it a few times in my career, stuff gets weird, it gets interesting. You know them, the Steelers know you. I would love to see Lamar get out of the pocket early in the game and make them respect his legs. I know you're like Chase, you ran for almost 800, 900 yards. I get that. But I think when you get into a game where you know each other, they're going to have a great plan. Defensively, the Steelers are. I think if Lamar uses his legs early, I think it's going to get them off kilter and then it'll open up the pass game and then obviously you know Derek Henry over 1900 yards rushing. I think that is a big part of their deal is like control the football, play some smash mouth football. You know how this is in the AFC North. I think this game will actually be closer than people think. I know the Ravens are playing really well as of late and the Steelers obviously four game losing streak, but I think this will be close.
Dan Patrick
Chase, there's a lot on the line here and some of it is just the perception. Some of it could mean changes. John Harbaugh hasn't been successful in the postseason recently. Mike Tomlin hasn't been successful recently. Lamar hasn't been successful recently. Russell Wilson's trying to hold on. I mean there's a whole lot of storylines in this game.
Chase Daniel
I mean there really is and I think the biggest one and what we've been talking and I was the biggest proponent when Russell Wilson was 6 and 1. I said, hey, let's resign him right now.
Dan Patrick
You know.
Chase Daniel
And then all of a sudden he's like, okay, you know, 04, a couple big red zone turnovers as of late. You can't point the finger right at him. I think that's a big storyline. How does Russ play? If Russ doesn't play well, do they look behind door number two this year for the quarterback? We had a conversation on the Fox show the Facility. Hey, is Mike Tomlin on the hot seat? And I was like, no, no, no, no. And the more you think about, well, I mean like, you know, sometimes this might be good for a change. I'm not saying that he's not one of the best coaches out there, but it could be time for a change. And then everyone knows Lamar thing. I think that's easily the number one storyline in this game is like Lamar, you put up really, you could be an MVP again this year. You could be a three time mvp. Although I think Josh Allen will win it. You could be an MVP if you go and you go 2 and 5 in the playoffs. What is your legacy like? I think that's a great game for storylines. You hit them all, man.
Dan Patrick
All right, before I let you go, give me the surprise. This weekend there's. There's going to be a road team that's, well, maybe even a home team like the Rams against the Vikings. But you got a surprise for me.
Chase Daniel
I look, I would not want to go into Tampa and play the Bucks offense and Liam Calm and what they're doing because they are playing really well. I think a team that can do it though is Jaden Daniels and the Washington Commanders. Even a rookie on the road. And we all know what Philly did last year. Laid an egg in Tampa. It's just a weird place to play in the playoffs. But Baker's having the best year of his career. I wouldn't be surprised if Dan Quinn has some good defensive minded strategies to help slow down Baker. And then I think Jaden really balls out with his legs. I think Zach Ertz catches a touchdown. I think they might win on the road.
Dan Patrick
More importantly, safe travels this morning. Thanks for joining us. We'll talk to you soon.
Chase Daniel
Chase, thanks for having me on, Dan.
Dan Patrick
Chase Daniel, co host of the Athletic Scoop City Podcast, also host of the Chase Daniel show on YouTube and co host of the Facility on Fox Sports 1, a couple of phone calls in here. Let's see. How about Steve in Boston? Hi, Steve. What's on your mind today?
Chase Daniel
Hey, how we doing today, guys? Thanks for taking my call. First time. Two questions, Dan. Listen, when it comes to the Patriots, depending on the coach, do you see the offense coordinator getting fired because of the coaches particular in second, depending on if they do get rid of an offensive coordinator, what do you think the development of Drake May will be? Will you think he'll take a step back as it's another program, another system, or do you think he's that decent of a quarterback?
Dan Patrick
Well, it would help if you'd get him some receivers like he did. Well, without having receivers there, I want continuity. You know, you're bringing in a new coach, bringing in your staff at uz, how it works. You don't want to inherit somebody's staff there, but getting somebody who knows what they're doing with a young quarterback is going to be imperative to the growth. Same thing with Caleb Williams. You know, Sean Payton was there with Bo Nix. You're in good hands. You're in good hands with Sean Payton, Jim Harbaugh, who played the position with Justin Herbert, like you're in good hands there. And that's what you want. Somebody who has experienced this or they've coached quarterbacks who've had success. That's what you want. Or that certainly helps with these younger quarterbacks. Let's see. Grant in Charlotte. Hey, Grant. What's on your mind?
Chase Daniel
Tp Appreciate the.
Todd Fritz
The call.
Chase Daniel
Hey, I just wanted to give you guys a, a suggestion for when you go to Wisconsin for the draft.
Dan Patrick
New Glares Brewery. Gotta go.
Chase Daniel
It's a top notch bre Brewery.
Dan Patrick
Oh, yeah. Spotted Cow. Yeah, yeah.
Chase Daniel
Spotted Cow.
Todd Fritz
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
Oh, yeah.
Chase Daniel
If you're in Wisconsin, you don't go, you'd be remiss. So appreciate it, fellas. Have a good one.
Dan Patrick
All right. Yeah, I occasionally get a shipment of. Of Spotted Cow. Not a shipment, but usually like a six pack, you know, just a nice care package. But yeah, we'll, we'll do what you're supposed to do when we go to Green Bay. Wayne in Iowa. Hi, Wayne. What's on your mind? Hey, Wayne. Wayne.
Chase Daniel
Yes.
Dan Patrick
Hi. Sorry to bother you, but.
Chase Daniel
Are you there?
Dan Patrick
Yeah, Wayne, Yeah, I'm here. I'm doing a radio show. Wayne.
Chase Daniel
Yes.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Chase Daniel
I've got a suggestion, Dan, for your potential Iowa business.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Chase Daniel
But I got a quick Adam Sandler story.
Dan Patrick
My wife and kids were in New.
Chase Daniel
York City recently with me and we ran into Adam Sandler at the Nobu restaurant in Manhattan.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Chase Daniel
I asked Adam to rate your acting skills on a scale of 1 to 10, and he gave you a 12.
Dan Patrick
Thought you might like to know that. Well, thank you.
Chase Daniel
You've got him fooled.
Dan Patrick
I guess so. Anyhow, Wayne, you're not in a position to take a shot. You can't even answer your phone. All right? So. No, I'm gonna have to let you go, Wayne. No, I'm gonna have to let him go.
Todd Fritz
Yeah, that's right, Wayne.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Wayne can't answer his phone, then takes a shot.
Todd Fritz
Yeah, he took a shot. I guess he got him fooled.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Todd Fritz
Maybe that was one of those things where, like, you say something and you don't realize it's a shot and then it's a shot, and you're like, whoa, why do you send it?
Dan Patrick
Oh, I guess that was a. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Todd, I told you I'm sensitive. I know.
Marv Albert
Not like he was at work with a customer.
Dan Patrick
Hold on a second.
Marv Albert
It sounded like he was saying that.
Dan Patrick
To somebody and then getting ready to talk to you, but. Oh, there.
Marv Albert
Danny, you want a 12?
Dan Patrick
I give him a 12. Dad, I thought it was going to.
Todd Fritz
Be one of those things where, like, mom is there and she's putting her kid on the phone. You're like, okay, you know, what do.
Dan Patrick
You think of the Raiders coaching situation?
Todd Fritz
Okay, thanks.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Charles, how about we take a break? Because coming up next, in or out? You're either in on something or you're out. That's after this. Be sure to catch the live edition of the Dan Patrick show, weekdays at 9am Eastern, 6am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Now, I don't know if you have the update, but, like, all the little thumbs up and heart and stuff, like, it's all colored. They changed it, and the heart's a little pink. It felt like I told you I loved you. I'm going to be honest, it was a Little pink.
Dan Patrick
There was something sentimental when you. When you send it, it's like, do.
Chase Daniel
I send the heart now?
Todd Fritz
I don't like the color edition.
Dan Patrick
It's extremely pink.
Todd Fritz
Listen to Lots to say with Bobby Bones and Matt castle on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Pod podcast, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Dan Patrick
David in New Orleans joins us. Good morning, David. What's on your mind today?
Chase Daniel
Good morning, Dan. Thanks for taking my talk. First time, long time, 6 foot 2, 30.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. I have a few things real quick.
Chase Daniel
Then a possible second career for Marvin.
Dan Patrick
If he ever decides to leave the show.
Chase Daniel
I can stay on the line afterwards.
Dan Patrick
If you'd like some recommendations from a.
Chase Daniel
Local for the super bowl week.
Dan Patrick
But last night, while enjoying an ice.
Chase Daniel
Cold another life, I stumbled across you and Levitard's Dan interviews Dan.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Chase Daniel
In New Orleans during Super bowl week. First, shout out to Steve is much.
Dan Patrick
Much better half Robin for buying tickets.
Chase Daniel
To the show immediately. Second, who should we expect to have the better interview?
Dan Patrick
You? The maestro interviewing Levitard or Levitard interviewing you? Well, we're going to interview each other and you can get tickets to this. You can go to danpatrick.com but we'll be at Tip of Tina's. February 5th, I believe, a Wednesday night and starts at 7, and it's Levitard and myself. And we'll just be interviewing each other, talking about a variety of things. We have long conversations. If Levitard calls, I say to my wife, gonna be out of pocket for an hour, hun. And then he loves to FaceTime. I only FaceTime my son and my granddaughter, I. And I'm only doing that because of my granddaughter. Levitard is always like. And I could see the FaceTime coming up. And I'm like, nope, not doing it. And then the one time I FaceTimed him, he's there with his wife and his shirt off, sitting on a couch, and I go, dan, don't do that to me. Don't do that to me. Yes. Is he one of those guys where they're not good with phone social cues when you're trying to let them know politely that you want to wrap up the conversation?
Marv Albert
Some people do that.
Dan Patrick
You give them a stop. So anyway, I gotta go. My kids bleeding. Sally, what are you doing Thursday? You would probably know that better than anybody of social cues. And I go right through them. Even though they're walking away, they're physically walking away from me, I'm following them. Yeah, still. Still talking. Okay, it's time to play in or Out. Yes. Paulie, you have the topics. We have to decide if we're in or we're out.
Marv Albert
I can't expound on that. That's exactly how it works, Dan. Here we go. Mike of Rabel will get at least three head coaching offers, but will not take the Patriots or Bears job. In or out.
Dan Patrick
Wow.
Marv Albert
Will not take.
Dan Patrick
That's all that's there. That's a lot. Because he could get three or maybe he could get two and then decide he didn't want to take these two. Okay. It feels like there's two questions in there, Todd. In or out? Due to the complexity of that one, I'm going to go out. I think it's a safe way to guess on that. Out.
Marv Albert
Basically. Will Mike Rabel pass on the Patriots and Bears?
Dan Patrick
All right, Seaton, so the redo of.
Todd Fritz
That is will Mike Rabel pass on the Patriots and the Bears?
Dan Patrick
Yes. Sure.
Todd Fritz
Yeah, I'm in on that.
Dan Patrick
Okay, Marvin, I'm in. Yeah, I'm in.
Marv Albert
The New York jets will be the last team to hire a head coach.
Dan Patrick
Todd, that seems very Jets. Like, I'm gonna go in. Okay, Seaton, I'm in. Okay, Marvin, I'm out. I'm gonna say I'm in only because Aaron Glenn might be coaching in a Super bowl. So then they can't hire him. So due to a little asterisk. Interesting addition, not just a pretty face, Todd.
Marv Albert
Here we go. The first pick of the NFL draft will not be a quarterback.
Dan Patrick
Okay, Todd out. Team in. Marvin out. And I am out.
Marv Albert
Here's the biggie. Somewhat biggie. If Jared Goff wins Super bowl mvp, he's going to the hall of Fame.
Dan Patrick
Don, out. I don't think that's enough to get him in. See out. Marvin out. I'd have to look at the totality of his career.
Todd Fritz
Well, that's not the game, Dan.
Dan Patrick
The game's not called.
Todd Fritz
Look at the totality of someone's career game. It's called in or out.
Marv Albert
Face value. No. Research. That's what we do here.
Dan Patrick
Face value. No, I'll say out.
Marv Albert
Oh, you were so close. The answer is in.
Dan Patrick
Oh, it is.
Marv Albert
He has 222 career touchdowns.
Dan Patrick
That's nothing.
Marv Albert
94 picks. This will be his fourth Pro Bowl. Also, he has about four more years of goodness ahead of him.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Marv Albert
He's going to get the Kurt Warner treatment if he wins the Super Bowl. Okay, here we go.
Dan Patrick
Two more.
Marv Albert
Eventually, both of these guys will give up their media gigs and go back to football. Tom Brady and Nick Saban all right, Todd, out.
Dan Patrick
Seaton, out. Marv, out. Out.
Marv Albert
That is the right answer.
Dan Patrick
Saban's not going back.
Marv Albert
He's having a blast.
Dan Patrick
No. You think he wants to go back with transfer portal and stuff? Nil.
Marv Albert
He's swearing on live TV weekly.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. He gets to hang out with McAfee.
Marv Albert
Last one. Aaron Rodgers will do nothing next season. Nothing. Not media, not football.
Dan Patrick
Okay, Todd, out. He likes the attention too much. Out. Marvin, in. Missay, out.
Marv Albert
That's it. In or out is out.
Dan Patrick
That's it. We've done it.
Marv Albert
Well, were we right or not?
Dan Patrick
Paul actually says when we're correct or not on some of those. I got a kick.
Marv Albert
Only the Jared Goff.
Dan Patrick
I'm sorry.
Todd Fritz
That is correct.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Marv Albert
That is correct.
Dan Patrick
Yes. Jared Goff. That would be two Super Bowls that he's been to.
Marv Albert
You get a win a Super bowl mvp, you're assuming a Super bowl mvp, you get big bonus points for doing with the Lions. Huge bonus points.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Yes.
Todd Fritz
I think if there was a quarterback in the playoffs who could win the super bowl and not get mvp, it's probably Jared Goff.
Dan Patrick
Wow.
Todd Fritz
No offense to him. I don't think that people respect him enough. And maybe I'm showing him great disrespect by saying these things.
Marv Albert
Proves your point.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Todd Fritz
I don't think that people will look at him like that.
Dan Patrick
I don't know. They might look at him differently. Might be like, all right, I'm begrudgingly buy in. Jared Goff, legitimate MVP candidate, begrudgingly giving you the mvp. I guess we have to give you the mvp. That's what I would say. And here I begrudgingly give you the mvp. Final hour on the way. Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk. Try to make sense all these coaching moves after this. Some people just know they could save hundreds on car insurance by checking Allstate first. Like, you know to check you have the tickets in your wallet first before you drive two hours to the big game. Seriously, you had one job. Now the closest you'll get to the 50 yard line is parking lot D. Yeah, checking first is smart. So check all state first for a quote that could save you hundreds. You're in good hands with Allstate Savings. Vary terms apply. Allstate Fire and Casualty Insurance Company and affiliates, Northbrook, Illinois.

Podcast Summary: The Dan Patrick Show – Hour 2: Wemby vs Giannis, Chase Daniel
Release Date: January 8, 2025
The second hour of The Dan Patrick Show dives deep into sports analysis, current events, and interactive segments, all while maintaining Dan Patrick’s signature blend of insight and humor. The episode begins shortly after the first hour concludes, seamlessly transitioning from promotional content to substantive discussions.
Dan Patrick opens the show with heartfelt commentary on the devastating wildfires affecting Los Angeles, specifically the Pacific Palisades. He shares a personal anecdote about receiving a late-night text from a friend evacuating the area, highlighting the emotional toll on families and first responders alike.
Dan Patrick [01:30]: "Thoughts and prayers with everybody out in Los Angeles Pacific Palisades and the devastation. It looks like it's out of a movie, but it's real."
He emphasizes the relentless nature of the fires, driven by strong winds of up to 80 mph, and commends the bravery of firefighters battling the flames.
Dan Patrick [02:05]: "The brave men and women first responders, my heart goes out to you because you're going to be there and they’re trying to get this under control."
Transitioning to sports, Dan and his co-hosts engage in an animated discussion about NBA action, focusing on the matchup between Victor Wembanyama (Wemby) and Giannis Antetokounmpo. The conversation highlights Wemby's rapid progression and potential MVP trajectory.
Dan Patrick [04:30]: "I think Victor Wembanyama is going to be an MVP before he's 25. His progression is crazy great."
Marv Albert contributes detailed statistics on Wembanyama’s performance, praising his dual offensive and defensive capabilities.
Marv Albert [05:12]: "He's up to 26 points per game, four blocks, 11 rebounds. His three-point percentage is up from 32 to 37."
The hosts compare Wemby’s playing style to Giannis, playfully dubbing him the “super freak,” and discuss the implications for their respective teams.
The conversation shifts to a nostalgic recounting of a historic UCLA vs. Tennessee game from 1968, drawing parallels to current NBA performances. Dan reflects on the significant loss of the number one Tennessee team to Florida, reminiscing about legendary players like Elvin Hayes and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
Dan Patrick [06:38]: "The last time a number one team lost by that kind of a margin was Houston losing to UCLA in 1968."
He also critiques recent performances, such as Steph Curry’s lack of assists and Trey Young’s impressive 24 points and 20 assists, underscoring the evolving dynamics of modern basketball statistics.
Dan delves deeper into player performances, discussing the importance of assists and the role of point guards in the NBA. The dialogue covers notable players like Tim Hardaway, Iverson, and newer stars, assessing their impact on the game.
Dan Patrick [09:22]: "I don't miss Mark Jackson. Give me Tim Hardaway. Timmy could get you nine dimes and push off of the forearm and then hit the jumper."
The discussion also touches upon LeBron James’ recent dunk, contrasting it with iconic moments from Michael Jordan, and analyzing Zion Williamson’s game against the Timberwolves.
Marv Albert and Todd Fritz join the conversation, speculating on potential NBA trades and team strategies. They humorously imagine Cooper Flags negotiating trades with teams like the Wizards, highlighting the complexities and fan reactions to player movements.
Marv Albert [11:01]: "How about a 320? Just take a little off the top."
The hosts discuss the Utah Jazz and New Orleans Pelicans, pondering Zion Williamson’s future and the broader NBA trade market dynamics.
Dan introduces interactive segments, including polls and quizzes, engaging with both co-hosts and live callers. A notable segment involves an NBA trivia quiz hosted by Marv Albert, challenging the knowledge of Dan and Todd on historical player statistics.
Marv Albert [19:55]: "The NBA player who had the most career points and fewest career assists. Who is he?"
The quiz features players like Moses Malone, Klay Thompson, and Kawhi Leonard, fostering an engaging and competitive atmosphere among the hosts.
Chase Daniel, co-host of the Athletic Scoop City Podcast and The Chase Daniel Show on YouTube, joins the show from his car in Los Angeles amidst the ongoing wildfires. He provides firsthand insights into the severity of the situation.
Chase Daniel [23:19]: "There's a huge brush fire going in Pasadena, but I'm going through downtown LA right now. Traffic, a ton of smoke, maybe some fog."
Chase discusses the challenges faced by residents and firefighters, emphasizing the ferocity of the wildfires with wind gusts of 99 mph making containment efforts exceedingly difficult.
Chase Daniel [24:10]: "There's a 99 mile per hour wind gusts, and that's the difficult thing for these firefighters trying to contain it."
Switching back to sports, Chase analyzes recent NFL developments, including the unexpected firing of Gerard Mayo and Antonio Pierce from the Patriots, attributing these decisions to broader team dynamics and developmental concerns.
Chase Daniel [25:03]: "I think that was a surprise firing of the cycle. You bring him in, what did you think was going to happen when you draft Drake May?"
The discussion extends to potential coaching changes, the Patriots’ quarterback development, and Chase’s opinions on ideal head coach profiles for fostering quarterback growth.
Chase Daniel [27:42]: "I think it's your head coach. There's no really more important relationship in my opinion."
Chase offers predictions for NFL playoff outcomes, particularly focusing on the Ravens versus Steelers matchup. He assesses Lamar Jackson’s playoff performance and strategizes how teams might adjust their gameplay to secure victories.
Chase Daniel [29:04]: "I would love to see Lamar get out of the pocket early in the game and make them respect his legs."
He also speculates on the Washington Commanders’ potential in the playoffs, highlighting quarterback Jaden Daniels and defensive strategies that could influence game outcomes.
Throughout the episode, Dan engages with live callers, adding a personable and humorous touch to the show. Notably, a caller named Wayne shares a light-hearted story about running into Adam Sandler, prompting playful banter among the hosts.
Chase Daniel [35:27]: "I asked Adam to rate your acting skills on a scale of 1 to 10, and he gave you a 12."
These interactions showcase the show's ability to balance serious sports analysis with entertaining and relatable content.
In the concluding part of the episode, Dan, along with Marv Albert and Todd Fritz, participates in the "In or Out" game, where they decide whether certain statements or predictions are true (“In”) or false (“Out”). Topics range from coaching moves to player legacies, injecting an element of suspense and engagement.
Marv Albert [40:27]: "The first pick of the NFL draft will not be a quarterback."
Dan Patrick [41:02]: "I'm in only because Aaron Glenn might be coaching in a Super Bowl."
The segment wraps up with reactions to the game’s outcomes, celebrating correct guesses and teasing upcoming content.
As the show nears its end, Dan teases upcoming segments and encourages listeners to tune in for future episodes. Promotional content for other shows and podcasts intersperses the closing moments, maintaining the show's dynamic and multifaceted nature.
Dan Patrick [44:15]: "Final hour on the way. Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk. Try to make sense of all these coaching moves after this."
Dan Patrick [01:30]: "Thoughts and prayers with everybody out in Los Angeles Pacific Palisades and the devastation."
Marv Albert [05:12]: "His three-point percentage is up from 32 to 37."
Chase Daniel [23:19]: "There's a huge brush fire going in Pasadena, but I'm going through downtown LA right now."
Chase Daniel [27:42]: "I think it's your head coach. There's no really more important relationship in my opinion."
Marv Albert [40:27]: "The first pick of the NFL draft will not be a quarterback."
