Hey, Albert, at what point did you start bending the elbow after watching that performance?

Albert Breer (4:11)

It was a tough one, Brady. I will say I can't be accused of being the mush because I was not in the building for that one. But yeah, it was a rough first half and, you know, we couldn't get it going quite enough and speed it up quite enough there in the second half. So, I mean, credit to Miami, like those monsters they have up front on the defensive side, you know, had their way when they need to have early in the game and, you know, got our control for a little while and then at the end of the game they wind up, you know, finding sort of their second wind, and that was that. So, yeah, it's. It's pretty wild. But I'm not, I'm not the only one on here with an alma mater who lost to Miami this year, right?

Jonas Knox (4:54)

Oh, geez.

Brady Quinn (4:55)

That's right over. The difference is some of us think that maybe Notre Dame should have been in the playoff because they would have performed better than Ohio State.

Jonas Knox (5:02)

Okay.

Albert Breer (5:03)

Okay. Well, I mean, like, everybody's got.

Brady Quinn (5:05)

I mean, we did see both teams play off. Ours just happened to be in their home stadium week one, and it was a pretty tight game for a team that presumably got better as the season went on. I guess that's the. That's where I'll go with you next is what happened to Ohio State since their win over Michigan. It feel like offensively, it just. They never really could figure it out running the football. But also just the past game too, really struggled.

Albert Breer (5:25)

Yeah, I'd say, like, there's a million things that were kind of going through my head on that. I mean, I think like the offensive line, they were managing an issue at right guard, I think, all year, and, you know, I don't know how much they were challenged in that area, but it really blew up on them, you know, early in this game. And, you know, then I think the left tackle, you know, from what I understand, was hurt, but like, I don't think he was playing very well anyway. And so then they go, they go to backups at both those spots in the second half, which I think is going to be extremely rare to change out to offensive linemen and that sort of game at halftime and stabilize. I honestly think, Brady, like, I think like when you look back at last year, right, and how they went from this slow moving offense into like this break neck, attack at all angles, force them to defend every blade of grass type offense in the playoffs, you know, I think we all kind of had it in our head that they were going to be able to flip that switch again. And then they fall behind these games and it's just that they didn't have it, you know, I mean, I would say this, like, even in the third quarter, right? Like that first drive, they march down the field and score. But the whole time I'm thinking to myself, why are they going so slow? You know what I mean? They're down two scores. Like, why. Why aren't you picking up the pace a little? Like, don't you want to maximize the amount of times that you're going to have the ball here? And maybe it was to give their Defensive blow or take some snaps off of them, I don't know. But, you know, it just didn't look like that gear that, that they had last year existed the same way. I. The defense is mostly fine, although give Miami's offensive line credit. Like they got them in second and six and third and two a lot, you know, and as you know, better than me, like that can be. That could be the ball game and I think it kind of was the other night.

Jonas Knox (7:13)

All right, so this does put to test the theory and we were talking about this and the feeling last year you did beat Michigan, but you won the national title.

Albert Breer (7:23)

Yes, I have thought about this.

Jonas Knox (7:25)

Okay, so which. Which postseason feels better for you? This year or last year?

Albert Breer (7:33)

Last year. I want the Natty. I mean, like, I've heard that question before. It sucks that the, you know, losing to Michigan. I'm not going to lie about that. Brady saw me suffer through that live and in living color.

Brady Quinn (7:46)

But I actually drew attention to you suffering.

Albert Breer (7:49)

Yeah, yeah. Brady, Brady, Brady, Brady made my suffering a national story. So I appreciate that, Brady.

Brady Quinn (7:55)

Yeah, I mentioned that somewhere to someone. But I did point out to your section too that you're the bat. You're the most. You're the bad luck which most people started to turn on you. There are some different epithets and things thrown at your way. It wasn't. I can't exactly on air, but yeah.

Albert Breer (8:09)

I mean, Brady, Brady may or may not have gotten one of the professional photographers that Fox employees to take a picture of me. I don't know. I may or may not have happened. But yeah, like, I like that was honestly, like I, as much as that sucks. Like, the run to the championship was incredible last year and I love the rivalry. It's, you know, I've got family on. On the other side of it. I got a lot of friends on both sides of it. And I. It's is like one of the most important days of the year, as childish as that sounds for me. So I, you know, I respect the rivalry like you wouldn't believe. But, you know, I would take the Natty over beating Michigan for sure. And I'm sure it'll be the same thing for them, you know.

Jonas Knox (8:59)

Albert, have you seen a. We're catching up with Albert Brear, senior NFL reporter, lead content strategist at the MMQB here on FO Sports Radio. But have you seen an NFL comp to what is happening at Indiana?

Albert Breer (9:14)

That's a good question. Like maybe The Rams with McVeigh, would that be the closest one they were.

Brady Quinn (9:25)

Like a 500 team, though, when Fish.

Albert Breer (9:27)

Was there the last year, though, they.

Brady Quinn (9:30)

By the way, they had had the greatest show on turf in their history.

Jonas Knox (9:36)

They had.

Albert Breer (9:36)

Yeah. God, like, who would that be?

Brady Quinn (9:40)

I don't think there is one.

Albert Breer (9:44)

Patriots to respectability before Belichick was there. I don't know.

Jonas Knox (9:49)

I don't think there is one day.

Albert Breer (9:51)

One that popped in my head. McVeigh popped in my head just because they were so bad. You know what I mean? Like the year, like the year before he got there, like, they really kind of collapsed. But I mean, Brady's right. Like, they were. They were close to.500 with Jeff Fischer. And you know, I think turning around golf was eye opening because golf was not good as a rookie, you know, so you have that maybe the Lions.

Brady Quinn (10:16)

The Lions would be the closest thing.

Albert Breer (10:18)

I think that's probably fair.

Brady Quinn (10:19)

The Lions, because Browns fans would have something to say. The difference is the Browns before the merger and like, deep into the history of their organization have had success. It's just been a long time. Like, at no point has Indiana ever had success playing football. Football, at least not to the magnitude of these two years.

Albert Breer (10:40)

Right. I mean, and that's the thing, like, college versus pro. Like, that's sort of the difference, like, is that you. You don't have. Like, it's because, like, college is sort of set up for there to be established powers than there to be there for there to be teams that are sort of in the bottom half of their conference perpetually. Like, the NFL is set up, you know, for the best teams to rise to the top, the worst teams to eventually rise back to the top, and then for the best teams to come back to earth. So I can't think of one. I mean, what Signetti's done. I said this on Twitter yesterday. It is the best coaching, I think maybe the best coaching job I've ever seen in any sport in my lifetime. Unbelievable.

Radhi Devlukya (11:22)

Yeah.

Brady Quinn (11:22)

That's literally what. What I said earlier today. Like, I can't think of another example and I'm sure someone might have one out there, so tweet at us or something. But I want to transition the NFL. What is there all this to do with Lamar Jackson and everything else? Like, he's going to play in this. There's speculation that he wouldn't. I mean, Harbaugh's had to kind of talk about it. It's become a story because the story was put out there. Like, what do you make of all this?

Albert Breer (11:48)

I think it's like, you know, I think this is sort of an inside baseball thing. Brady. But, you know, I would say, like, this is sort of been like the, the awkwardness of the whole relationship going back to the first contract negotiation. I think so much of it stems from him not having an agent because it doesn't just. You have to follow me here, but just doesn't just affect the contract. It can make things awkward with the contract because you got to say things in contract negotiations that wind up affecting things big picture wise. I think John Harbaugh has always been able to navigate that fine. You know, I think one of the things that, that, that, that, that, that it does seem to, like, create, like it has created over the years is when this guy is hurt there, there really isn't like, someone out there giving clarity, explaining where he's at. And, you know, like, that's a part of, like, all of this that happens with most players, as I'm sure you guys know, is like 90% of the time when you're seeing detailed injury information get out there, it's coming by the agent. Well, why would the agent do that? The agent would do that. So everyone knows that. Like, look, my guy's trying to be out there, wants to be out there. Here's what he's dealing with. Here's what he's had to deal with. Like, this isn't, you know, it's protecting the reputation of the player. And Lamar hasn't really had somebody to do that. And I don't think because of who he is, like, like, he doesn't care what people think, so he isn't doing that publicly. And so if you notice, earlier in the week, like, John Harbaugh gave more detailed injury information on Lamar than I've ever heard him give on anybody, you know, and in 18 years of covering him as a head coach, you know, and so I think that that was sort of an olive branch to Lamar. But certainly these are all questions, you know, like, is his, you know, his injury history, you know, is. Is now relatively extensive. His workload is historic. No quarterback has ever taken on the sort of workload that he has in the run game. And, you know, like, if every time he gets hurt now, the bigger picture questions are going to be answered, are going to be asked about, like, is this where he breaks down? And that's going to, you know, sensibly affect the way that you, you handle contract negotiations if you're the Ravens. So I don't think there's anything nefarious here. I think it' or just the awkward, unique setup of how things have been there and how things are and they've been able to navigate it for, for so many years. I think he'll play on Sunday. I think he'll play well on Sunday. But, you know, those big picture questions I think will still exist.

Jonas Knox (14:19)

Albert, who, if anybody, is coaching for their job this weekend in the NFL to where look, I mean, Arthur Smith.

Albert Breer (14:25)

Was an go one way or the other, you mean?

Jonas Knox (14:27)

Yeah, because I, I remember back to Arthur Smith with the Falcons and it was like, it seemed like he was safe. And then the final two weeks of the season, it just fel and they, they ended up moving on. But you look at this week, Joe.

Albert Breer (14:39)

Judge would be another one, probably right?

Jonas Knox (14:43)

All right.

Albert Breer (14:44)

So like, I think Miami's a coin toss right now. I would say I have a list in front of me so I can take it through them. But Miami, I think the coin toss right now, they brought in Troy to consult with them. And you know, I do think that the ownership there really likes Mike McDaniel and wants to go forward with Mike McDaniel. But a lot of that's going to kind of depend on how they are coming out, how they are coming out of the season when they do a full assessment. Cleveland, I'd expect that they're going to sit down Sunday night, Monday to hash all of that out where they're at. You know, I know they discussed a restructure. I don't know how likely that is, you know, and then I think that there's probably a two way conversation there with Kevin Stefanski on his appetite to keep going. Indianapolis has come up the last couple of weeks. I don't know that they'll make change, but they are a little bit of a wild card because Jim Mercedes daughter is now in charge and so she doesn't really have track record yet one way or the other. So we'll see where that goes. Vegas I think the Raiders will make a change and I think Pete Carroll will be gone. And I think you hear a lot about Tom Brady's involvement in the organization going forward from here. You know, Atlanta, like they've won a bunch of games in a row now. What do they do? I think that's a, you know, an open question now. And I think Raheem Morris has helped himself the last few weeks, but they have a consulting firm in there. Matt Ryan is going to be involved at some level. I've heard it could be like a Chris Thielman type of role and I think there'll be some level of change, but I Think Raheem has got a better shot now to survive potentially than the general manager there, Terry Fontenot has. And I think Arizona will have some change as well, but I don't think it'll be total change. So could I feel like the GM staying and the head coach going? Possibly. I know they like both guys, you know, if they try to push change on Jonathan Gannon, will Gannon go down with the ship? Think those are some questions you can ask there. And then, you know, getting Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, like those situations. I think at least they're watching you. Could Mike Tomlin walk away, do TV for a year? Buffalo has an early exit. How does that affect things? I think those are. Those are situations we'll all be watching as well. Tampa is another one where. I think Tampa's. You know, I don't think they're out of the woods if they lose tomorrow. And it'll be interesting to see the way they handle all that.

Brady Quinn (16:54)

Yeah, the NFC south, the gift that just keeps on giving a team can be what, one? In their last eight games they've played, I think they've won once and they're still in the hunt for the playoffs in the division. I want to ask you, if you had an MVP vote today, who would it be for?

Albert Breer (17:10)

I do have one, which means I can't tell you. I know.

Jonas Knox (17:15)

Just tell us who he plays for.

Albert Breer (17:17)

I. Yeah, you. I gave you the conference that would give it away, I think, at this point.

Jonas Knox (17:21)

Right.

Albert Breer (17:23)

I think I. I honestly think, like I. I think Drake said.

Brady Quinn (17:27)

Let me ask you this. Your votes down to two guys, is it fair to say that.

Albert Breer (17:31)

I would say going into the final weekend. You did. If you're speaking conceptually, like, I. I think that there are two front runners. Yeah.

Brady Quinn (17:37)

Okay. And then let's just kind of pick around a little on this.

Radhi Devlukya (17:41)

Do you.

Brady Quinn (17:42)

But, you know, are you more impressed by someone who's doing it at an older age or younger age?

Albert Breer (17:48)

I'm kind of neutral on that.

Brady Quinn (17:51)

Okay, let's. Well, what about a guy who, you know, plays in what could perceive to be a tougher division?

Albert Breer (17:59)

I mean, I think that that's all a matter of opinion, right? Isn't it, like.

Brady Quinn (18:03)

No, it's factual. The NFC west is much tougher than the afc.

Jonas Knox (18:05)

I was. I was going to go. I was going to go Ohio State alum. So I was thinking Jackson, Smith and Jigba and Justin Fields. Like, I wasn't sure if those were the two. Yeah. I don't know like that. I was just thinking Ohio State I.

Albert Breer (18:18)

I actually think a number of guys have it. Like, I, I think beyond the two obvious ones, I do think, like, a number of guys have a case. Like, I.

Brady Quinn (18:25)

Okay, Chris McCaffrey.

Albert Breer (18:26)

Josh Allen's. Josh Allen's done a lot. Christian McCaffrey's done a lot. Justin Herbert has.

Brady Quinn (18:31)

I mean, John Robinson should be a part of it. If you just look at the stats.

Albert Breer (18:36)

B, John Robinson's had a dynamite year. Now, do you give it to a running back who's going to miss the playoffs? Yeah, probably not, right?

Brady Quinn (18:43)

No, but still, like, I don't know that that's the way we should be looking at it, but. Yeah, I realize that's part of the. The equation.

Radhi Devlukya (18:51)

Yeah.

Albert Breer (18:51)

Yeah. I mean, McCaffrey's got a good case. Like, you look at McCaffrey like, he's the one constant. Right? Like, so, like, they had to play without Fred Warner and Nick Bosa. For. For most of the year, they were without Brock Purdy. For a chunk of the year, they were without. You know, they were without Debo Samuel. This year without Brandon Ayuk. This year, that's the top two receivers from last year. Kittle missed a lot of time. Like, McCaffrey's case, to me is pretty good based on just the amount of moving parts around him and how they've won 12 games. And he's the one constant.

Brady Quinn (19:23)

And Albert, Jonas has pointed this out, especially not getting distracted with off the field stuff. You know, when you think about what he goes home to every day. Jonas is pointing that out.

Jonas Knox (19:31)

Hey, listen, Christmas, every single day of the year. You know what I mean? Like, it just. I'm just saying, man, certain people got it and certain people don't. I. I did what I asked.

Albert Breer (19:42)

You've done some. You've done some Instagram research, did some deep digging.

Brady Quinn (19:46)

I mean, you've never seen this much preparation put into this.

Jonas Knox (19:49)

Hey, Albert. Hey, Albert. I've got the. The all 22 if you need it. So I'll just. Anytime you want it, just let me know. I did. I was gonna ask you this, though. The hell's going on with Max Crosby? I mean, this is the. Like, this is so blatant. And is the NFL going to step in? Are they going to be like, what are you doing? The guy wants to play? Or is this just. He's being vocal and he is more banged up than he wants to acknowledge and that's where we're at with this.

Albert Breer (20:19)

I mean, I think for Max, it's a pride thing, you know? Like, I think, you know, it's tough, man. Like, he has been on team that hasn't been very good. He's made the playoffs once since he came into the league in 2019. This is his seventh year. He's 28 years old. They haven't been in contention much. And so what does he have? Like, you know, he wants to show that he can play full seasons and still be the same guy and, you know, sack totals and defensive player of the year runs and all that different stuff. It's like sort of what he's left to play for, you know. And I. And I don't think that he liked having the decision taken out of his hand. That said, this is something that he's dealt with since October, you know, and it's gotten worse over the course of time. There was never any dispute that he was going need surgery to fix it at some point, and he will need surgery to fix it after the season, which, you know, and he'll now have. And basically what happened was they felt like his play had fell off the last few weeks. So on Tuesday of last week, they took. They had him come in and do a scan. They felt like at that point the damage was significant enough. They told him that they were going to shut him down. He went and got second opinions from two outside doctors who are really respected guys. Both said that if he could manage the pain, that he could go ahead and play. And so that's where the disagreement was, you know, And I'm. And I know, like, listen, like, he's suspicious of, like, what's going on here, too. You know what I mean? Like, so it's not just us. Like, he has his suspicions over the reasoning for sitting down. But, you know, clearly, I think it's like, kind of created a little bit of a divide between Max and the organization, between Max and potentially Tom Brady. This, to me, is as close as we've come to. Matt's potentially asking for a trade that hasn't happened yet, but I think it's certainly something that we'll all be keeping an eye on in February and March.

Radhi Devlukya (22:13)

I don't know.

Brady Quinn (22:13)

Tom Brady's a pretty persuasive guy, so I'm sure he's going to talk to him to calm down some of that. Speaking of just another player, maybe there's something going on with the organization. Joe Burrow, we've heard him talk about Myles Garrett, the sack record, to be sacked or to not be sacked. That's not really where I want to go with this, though, because he's talked about the Bengals playoff Dr. He's talked about things needing to change. I mean, it feels like it's been the longest season for Bengals fans, considering at one point, Joe Flacco was their starter who actually started the season in Cleveland. Like, it's just been a lot Bengals fans. But for Joe Burrow, too, anything to keep an eye on in the offseason as we approach their last game of the season.

Albert Breer (22:51)

Yeah, I don't think he's there yet, you know, but I think. I think everybody's got their radar up for, you know, eventually something. Because, I mean, look, like, could this become Matthew Stafford in Detroit? The Bengals themselves have history with something like that with Carson Palmer. What was it in 2010? I think so. Like, I think, you know, like, this is. I think it's good, and I think it's fine now. I think, you know, for 20, 26, he'll be locked in, you know, but that's not a forever thing. You know what I mean? Like, they. You know, he wants. He badly wants to compete for championships. He was in the AFC title game after a second year, after his third year, made a Super Bowl. And, you know, I think he understands and appreciates the fact that he'll be judged on wins and losses as a quarterback, you know, so. And that's why I think he's taken such an active role in trying to be a change agent in the organization. I mean, I'd say even, like, the little things, like getting an indoor facility built, which was a little absurd that they didn't have one, but getting an indoor facility built in Cincinnati was. Was part partly because of his presence and the pressure that he puts on them to modernize things. I know.

Brady Quinn (24:01)

I wish you understood how many times I've called the organization cheap. And Bengals fans are irate with me, and I'm like, dude, you didn't even fly in some of your former greats for some of these, like, Ring of Honor inductions. Like, you're. You're mad at me for telling the truth. Like, I'm sorry.

Jonas Knox (24:16)

By the way, Albert, is it true that Joe Burrows, the reason they have running water, too, in the building, or is that.

Albert Breer (24:22)

Well, he has helped him. He. I mean, look. But he did push to have Jamar Chase extended, to have T. Higgins extended, to have Trey Hendrickson's contract address. Like, he pushed for all those things. They've got a bubble.

Brady Quinn (24:37)

They don't have an indoor. They have a bubble. There's a difference between that.

Albert Breer (24:40)

Yeah, that's true. If they have a bubble, they have a bubble.

Brady Quinn (24:43)

I mean, if I could pop it with a rusty nail, I don't know if it counts as, like, big movement in that regard. All right, Like, Jonas and I can go buy a tent at Dick's Sporting Goods right there.

Jonas Knox (24:54)

It just says Coleman on the side.

Albert Breer (24:57)

I mean, that is true. Jonas. The reality, they have a, they have a bubble, like your, your, your local house club with the bubble over the pool. You know what I mean? I, I, I, I, you know, but I, I, I. And I've heard all the stories that Brady has. Like, I, I mean, go, it's gotten better. I mean, back in the day, I remember. God, I remember going up to Chad Johnson when he got to New England in the locker room, was, you know, talking with him and everything. And I said, like, hey, is the thing about the Gatorade true in Cincinnati? And he said, you know about that? And the story I had heard was that they don't, like, they actually have the Gatorade mix there. They didn't have, like, the actual gate, you know, like the powder. So that's, that's a, that, that's way back in the day.

Jonas Knox (25:45)

Hey, when they're out, what do they do? They use Tang or is it Kool Aid? What do they do? What's the option be.

Brady Quinn (25:52)

By the way, Albert I. Palmer made it seven years in Cincinnati before he kind of forced his way out to Oakland. And I think, is Joanna. Is he going to year six or.

Albert Breer (26:03)

Is he finishing year six? Year six for him, I think Palmer. Yeah, I think you're right. Because when you retired and. Yeah, because he made it through 09 and then retired after, oh, nine. And I think in 10, if I remember right, that was when the Raiders trade. No, no. Or was it 11?

And if you do, I like I will gladly acknowledge defeat, but I think Seattle gets it done here and I think the Seahawks are going to be the 1 seed in the NFC.

Let's call that'll be the most attendance the Marlins parks ever seen.

I mean like what do we like they still have that like giant bounce house looking marlin in the outfield that kind of circles around and like all that, all the goofy stuff there at that stadium, like they still got that rock.

I don't know. We always had a good time every time we went to a Marlins game. I am excited to see though what this looks like. Is humidity not going to be an issue. Isn't that a concern for the ice?

Brad Palumbo (53:46)

They were saying it's winter meets summer as the theme because it's in a tropical Miami.

Jonas Knox (53:51)

They did like that ice could get sloppy. They did ducks, kings out here on the beach years ago. Like so it's been done outside before. I feel like, you know, in that controlled environment it would make a little bit more, you know, I just, I don't know. When I think Winter Classic, I think outdoors, I think snow. I think, I think the Penguins and the Sabers kind of spoiled it for everybody because you had the snow and it went to overtime, I think and all that. And so they've just been doing it every year but, you know, I'm seeing the tickets are about $370. So the lowest ticket to get into that is $370. That's about what the Marlins tickets are, right, Brady?

I'd buy that for a dollar.
