I'm John Paulk. For years, I was the poster boy of the conversion therapy movement, the ex gay who married an ex lesbian and traveled the world telling my story of how I changed my sexuality from gay to straight. You might have heard my story, but you've never heard the real story.
Dan Patrick
John has never been anything but gay.
Paulie
But he really tried hard not to be.

Steelers have a press conference in about an hour from now. I'm not sure if they'll take questions from members of the media. I hope they do. But the one thing about the Mike Tomlin situation is it feels like nobody is factoring him in to coach again. Now you do have to factor in. If he does coach, that team has to compensate the Steelers because Mike Tomlin has years left on his contract. But it feels like a foregone conclusion that Mike Tomlin is not going to be coaching next season. There have been TV networks, shows that have already reached out to Mike or his agent. One that I know of. I'm guessing Fox will be reaching out or already has with Jay Glazer. Jay Glazer, a good friend of Mike Tomlins. If I'm NBC, I, I'd hire Mike Tomlin for the playoffs. They have the super bowl this year. Let's see what he does on a big stage. Put him in there. See how he does. See how he gets along with everybody else. Chemistry there. If I'm cbs, I have him in the studio this weekend. I put him in there. Matt Ryan's not there. Put him in there. You got Bill Cower in there. I think that could be fun. You get the first interview with Tomlin, but then you also get him breaking down these games. All right, poll question for the final hour of the program. By the way, stat of the Day is always brought to you by Panini America. The official trading cards of the program. All right, Seaton, that Tomlin thing you're.
Seaton
Just talking about when nobody has him coaching, it feels a little. Well, it's pretty early, but you ever know somebody that is married for a long time and gets divorced and then gets married again right away? What'd you do that for? Yeah, that's what it feels like with Tomlin. He's been in a very long term relationship. Why are you going to jump right into another one? Maybe take a year, take a beat?
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Pulling.
Paulie
But I still don't think he wanted to leave the Pittsburgh Steelers. I won't believe that. I think he read the room and read the surroundings and chose to do whatever the classy thing. But like a team like the New York jets. If they wanted to hire Tomlin, I don't know if he would go there. They have tons of draft capital. They got tons of draft picks.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, but yeah, I get the compensation. The problem is you're still coaching the Jets.
Paulie
But he is a guy. I don't believe wanted to stop coaching until I hear different.
Dan Patrick
I think he needed to. I think he Needed to refresh. It's 19 years. That's, that's an eternity in the coaching circles. I mean, even Harbaugh, John didn't want to leave the Ravens, but probably deep down knew that he should leave the Ravens. Yeah, Seaton.
Seaton
Yeah, I've said it a couple times, but sometimes things just run their course. He was there for a long time, you know, and sometimes it's like, man, it's not really, it's not that things are going wrong. It's just maybe we need to freshen things up a bit. And I don't know, does Mike Tomlin want to coach the Steelers or does he just want to coach? If he just wants to coach the Steelers, going to the jets isn't going to scratch that itch.
Dan Patrick
I don't think there's a team right now that, unless he went to the Ravens, but that's not going to happen. What other opening do you go? Okay, that's where Mike Tomlin wants to go. That's a, that's a better situation. Now you can say, okay, Atlanta.
Mark
You.
Dan Patrick
Know, he's not going to Tennessee, the Giants. I just, these, these coaches, they have to win. It's not, hey, I got another job for five years. It's Mike Tomlin. Okay, we're going to have a winning record, right, Mike? And are we going to win playoff games? Yes, Seaton.
Seaton
In a weird way, Mike Tomlin could be the perfect coach for the Ravens because he's defensive minded head coach. So let me shore up a terrible defense. That is really the reason why they lost so many games this year. Lamar Jackson's put up 40 points and you lose 41. 40. That's terrible. So Mike Tomlin can focus on getting the defense right and then say, lamar, who's the coordinators you like? And bring in a guy that Lamar Jackson is like, this is the guy that I want to play for. This is the offense I want to run. In a weird way, it could be a perfect fit.
Dan Patrick
And nobody, though, is saying, oh, you know, who's the leading candidate or who should be the leading candidate for that job? Mike Tomlin. I haven't seen it yet. I haven't heard anything yet. It just feels like, all right, where does Mike Tomlin want to work in television next year? Nothing about, hey, he's interested in Atlanta or the Dolphins, the Raiders, you know, throw out these teams. The Browns, Yes.
Seaton
He should get a job on a local Pittsburgh affiliate and just critique every game next year for that. He's like, yeah, I'm going to go into the media. I'm going to be at a, you know, kdk, kdka, and I'm just going to rip the Steelers every day. This is terrible. What kind of game plan was that?
Dan Patrick
It's awful. Yeah.
Paulie
Paul, I still don't believe it was that he wanted to quit the Steelers. And I think, let's say that game the other night, they were down one with 13 minutes to go. Let's say somehow they steal that game and go to the second round of the playoffs, then get knocked out. Do you guys think he would have stepped down? Because I would assume this plan has been in his head for months and he didn't make it in a 24 hour.
Dan Patrick
Well, the Ravens were moving on from John Harbaugh even if they made the playoffs, which means.
Paulie
I don't think it was Mike Tomlin's choice in any way. I think he did the.
Dan Patrick
But why does it matter? He's not coaching anymore.
Paulie
It matters because I think people think the Pittsburgh Steelers just did. Did nothing and Mike Tomlin stepped away voluntarily. I don't believe that's the case.
Dan Patrick
But what, okay, so what if they fired him?
Paulie
I'd love to know that.
Dan Patrick
But what does it matter?
Paulie
Because it's a very interesting story. I'd love to know.
Dan Patrick
No, no. It's only interesting because we want to know if he got fired or not. But what does it matter? He left the Steelers. He's not coaching the Steelers.
Paulie
I think his coaching future would depend. Would really matter that he wanted to still coach, whether it be the Steelers or other. And that would factor in his decision going forward to go to media or other.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, but he's, you don't hear his name about any coaching circle. So let's say he got fired. You want to coach again, you can coach in coach anywhere. You haven't heard him say or anybody say that he's going to coach someplace. I, maybe they came to that understanding, but they didn't. The Ravens had no problem saying they fired John Harbaugh. No problem. Now the Steelers may say, look, we, we owe it to you, Mike. We want you to go out with your head held high. We're not going to say we fired you. But do I think Mike Tomlin, with two years left, it feels like somebody who's burned out. That's, that's the sense that I got from this. Not, you know, are the Steelers trying to protect him and say, hey, look, we got to move on from you. We're going to let you say you're stepping down if that's the case. And you think they fired him. That's not a guy who then runs into tv. That's a guy who coaches. And if you fire him now, you don't owe the Steelers any compensation. So, I mean, I think we're getting caught up on semantics that it doesn't matter in the bigger picture. They need a coach and Mike Tomlin has not been mentioned for a coaching vacancy. Yes.
Seaton
Yeah, I don't, I don't know that any of us necessarily are disputing or disagreeing with the idea that he was actually fired, but they let him save face. I just don't think that he just wants to coach General. I think he probably wanted to coach the Steelers, but now because he's not coaching the Steelers anymore, he's just going to jump right into the next job. I don't think that's the case. I think maybe he takes a year and then he'll probably have teams calling him again after that.
Dan Patrick
Oh, he's going to have any job that he wants it. Just when does he want it? I mean, how many jobs are safe when you look at the entire NFL, that they're safe, that if Mike Tomlin said, I'm interested in coaching the Packers, I would say Andy Reid is certainly safe in Kansas City, Jim Harbaugh with the Chargers. But if you start to look at some of these other, you know, Ben Johnson just got there, Mike McDonald in Seattle, I mean, there's certain situations here. Vrabel is safe. He just got there. But Vrabel wasn't safe a couple of years ago in Tennessee, which is one.
Seaton
Of the dumbest decisions in recent memory.
Dan Patrick
I mean that. But it feels like if Mike Tomlin wanted to coach a team, then he could. If you're Green Bay and Mike Tomlin said, hey, I'm interested in coaching Green Bay, are they going to keep Matt LaFleur? I don't know. But it feels like Mike will have his pick of jobs, whether it's next year, the year after that, the year after that. Yes.
Mark
Mark, what if the Bills wash out this weekend?
Dan Patrick
Well, once again, I still feel like there's a team that is still in the playoffs who might not have the most secure position at head coach just given everything that's transpired here. I mean, Stefanski, two time coach of the year, then you got Harbaugh, then you got Tomlin. I can't remember an off season. Like we're not even in the off season yet and you had these kind of options available to you. Remarkable. But the Steelers will hold Their press conference coming up in an hour from now. A couple of phone calls in here. Bob in Seattle. Hey, Bob, what's on your mind today?
Caller/Listener
Hey, D.P.
Dan Patrick
Hey, bud. And, you know, look, Sean McVeigh is safe, and, you know, Kyle Shanahan safe. But, you know, that doesn't mean in a year from now or two years from now that everybody is safe that we're talking about here. All right? Hey, Bob.
Caller/Listener
So looking forward to your interview with the men's room. Not in the men's room, but with the men's room on Thursday. And I'd like to see if you guys can play the Mike Tomlin career earnings game, because why would he want to coach again if he's made this much money?
Dan Patrick
Well, he walked away from $50 million. See, that's the part of it where I. I side with Paulie. That man you're walking away from. They reported $50 million over the next two years. I don't think he's making that kind of money in the. I mean, he'll make a lot of money in the media if Brady's making what he's making at 37 and a half. Mike Tomlin might be a $20 million a year guy if you're paying Romo 18 million or Troy Aikman 20 million or Collins. Were Mike Tomlins walking into a pretty healthy paycheck there? Steve in Pennsylvania. Good morning, Steve. What's on your mind?
Caller/Listener
Hey, dan.
Dan Patrick
Hey, Steve.
Caller/Listener
Hey. 511A granddad bod 213. I think I have the obvious perfect landing spot for Mike Tomlin. Okay, I see him. Here it is. Introducing Mike Tomlin, the host of the Dan Patrick 2.0 show.
Dan Patrick
I hope he's striving for something better than that, but. But thank you, Steve. Bob in Seattle mentioned I'm going to be on a show, the Men's room in Seattle. Very popular show, and I think number one radio program in Seattle. I'll be on that tomorrow. Actually, we taped it yesterday. Had a lot of fun with those guys. Let's see. Russell in Philadelphia. Hi, Russ. What's on your mind today?
Caller/Listener
Hey, what's up, Dan? Second time, long time. My thoughts on timeline is I think he should chill and take a year off, get his thoughts and things situated like Peyton did. Maybe do some TV for a little bit, and then, you know, trade. Pick a team to go coach next year.
Dan Patrick
He's gonna have options, but it feels like let's. Let's get into it now, get a hold of this job. You know, you get in and you get a hold of these jobs, you don't want to let go of these jobs because there's always going to be another coach and or another player and they're going to be available. Dane in Texas. Hi, Dane. What's on your mind today?
Caller/Listener
Hey, good morning, Dan. I had two things. One on Marcus Freeman and one on yesterday's point about NBA mvp'.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Caller/Listener
First, with Marcus Freeman, for all the points you mentioned earlier, I think that makes him a great candidate. Plus, one you forgot is just how crazy it is to be a college football coach. I mean, the immaturity levels of these kids at nil. If he moved to Pittsburgh, at least you'd have salary caps and contracts.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Yes.
Caller/Listener
NBA and MVPs. I'm going to give you two hints. The 76, 77 season, he wasn't an MVP, but he should have been an MVP for his team. I think you'll get it on this clue. Bill Walton called him the best teammate he ever had.
Dan Patrick
Maurice Lucas.
Caller/Listener
Yes. Because Walton was so great. One reason was because Maurice Lucas protected him.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Caller/Listener
I mean, he was an enforcer. If you messed with Walton hard, fouled him, you'd have to deal with Maurice. And remember game two in the Spectrum when he took on Daryl Dawkins?
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Yeah. Daryl Dawkins was never the same, never the same after Maurice Lucas went after him. And you did not want to mess with Maurice Lucas. Like when you put the power in, the power forward. Maurice Lucas. Pete in Jacksonville. Hi, Pete. What's on your mind today?
Caller/Listener
Hey, Dan. It's an honor to talk to you, man. Oh, my God, I'm so excited. I'm starstruck. I just want to tell you I met you in 2005 at the super bowl when Emma Smith retired and I met Chris Burner. I'm a big fan. It's my first town call. I'm six foot one, I'm £150. Can I get the thing?
Dan Patrick
Thank you, Pete. Thank you. Thank you. I don't remember meeting you in Jacksonville.
Paulie
Come on.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, yeah.
Paulie
I met with a guy with the eyes and the hair.
Dan Patrick
I've met a lot of people.
Mark
Come on, Pete. You know Pete.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Oh, man. That's when I needed security because that, that was Jacksonville in Jacksonville, the Eagles and the Patriots. And that's when I had Fred X, Freddie Mitchell on and he didn't know the names of the defensive backs for the Patriots. But you know, in fairness to Fred X, a lot of players, current players, they'll talk about numbers, you know, they'll sell, you know, 32, you got 28. And so he was, he was talking about the Patriots secondary. We had him on Sports Center. I was doing the early Sports center, and he started talking about the numbers and I said, wait a minute, do you know the names of the defensive backs for the Patriots? They didn't. And so this was live tv and it just looked like, you know, I don't know who these bums are. The Patriots, even though you had like Lawyer Malloy and Rodney Harrison, you had great defensive backs. And I remember the fallout from that the next day in the Eagle fans who were in Jacksonville and they were mad at me. And I remember having to have security to and from the Sports center set the rest of that week. But all that was, was he just said their numbers. And I realized that he didn't know their names. And it came off as, it doesn't matter who's in the secondary. Nobody's going to be able to stop me. All right, take a break. More phone calls coming up. Also, LeBron's agent says some things that LeBron didn't like. We'll have that for you coming up. Thanks for listening to the Dan Patrick show podcast. I like the idea of like, hey, put me on a big deer. You know, hey, there's a big deer out here. He doing this be looking for this deer. But I also love doing it on my own. I love going out there and saying, running my cameras. I love patterning the deer. I like showing up at the right time, checking the wind, knowing what stand.
Dan Patrick
I need to be in.

And then whenever it all comes together and it happens, that's the most satisfying thing ever. So when you do it on your own, it's like, I then can hang my hat. But if I had somebody say, hey, pull up on these dots and catch them right here and you're gonna win. And then when I go in, it's.
Dan Patrick
Like, yeah, it's cool.

I always keep an eye on the point spreads. Anything's going up or going down. Miami is now an eight and a half point underdog. They were seven and a half, now eight and a half. The over under went down a point. Now down to 47 and a half NFL lines. The Bills are now getting one and a half. They were favored by one and a half in Denver. The Niners are getting seven and a half in Seattle. Texans getting three with the Patriots. And the Rams are three and a half point favorites against the Bears. Weather is expected to be 13 degrees in Chicago. Not sure what the weather is going to be like in New England for the Patriots game. Maybe we could check on that. Don't know if Denver's got any weather coming in Seattle. I'm guessing rain. Yes. Paul.
Paulie
Patriots home game, 39 degrees. Seattle at home, 49 degrees. Broncos also, weirdly, 48 degrees.
Dan Patrick
Okay. Huh. Any rain in the forecast in Seattle?
Paulie
I see none.
Dan Patrick
Any rain in the forecast in New England?
Paulie
I don't see it. There's a checking on that one.
Dan Patrick
All right, The Bears will be cold. Couple of phone calls in here. Nick. In Illinois. Hey, Nick, what's on your mind today?
Caller/Listener
Hey, Dan, thanks for taking my call. 6 foot 195. Before I get into my take, I got to take on Mike Tomlin. I want to give you one quick fact about where I'm from. Peoria, Illinois, we have the oldest amateur baseball league in America, started in 1916. Notable alumni, Jim Thome, Joe Girardi, Ben Zobrist, and many more. Mike Tomlinson, sneaky landing spot for him, in my opinion. The Raiders, they got a young core. Get Mendoza with that number one pick. Let Brady mentor him and just throw all your money into both lines. Mendoza is the kind of guy that will buy into any kind of culture that Mike Tomlin wants to establish. And I think, you know, he could have a potentially good future with them in a couple of years. What are your thoughts on that?
Dan Patrick
All right. Thank you, Nick. Mike Tomlin would be going from one of the most stable ownerships to the Raiders. That would concern me. Even if Tom Brady is there, you get Mendoza, Ashton Genty, Brock Bowers. Is Max Crosby going to be there? I just don't see him coaching. I don't know if he's, you know, hey, I'm leaving the Steelers now. I want to coach. I want to prove that I can coach someplace else. I just don't see that. Just feels like he's going to be in TV for a little while and then he'll have his pick. He might. The Raiders job might be open in two years. It might be, hey, you know, now I could take over that job. The Lakers are 23 and 14. Maybe they're maybe 24 and 14. They blew out the Hawks, didn't they? Rich Paul, the founder of Clutch Sports and partnership with LeBron, he's. He launched a new podcast with former ESPN personality Max Kellerman. On Monday's episode, Rich Paul said that he would trade Austin Reeves to Memphis for Jaron Jackson Jr III if he were in charge of the Lakers. He said, if I was with the Lakers, I'd be targeting their big man. He was then asked by Max what Los Angeles would have to get give up to get the defensive player of the year. He would offer expiring contracts in addition to the last first round picks. They can offer 2031 or 2032. Or they could trade Austin Reeves. Well, I mean it. He's got an opinion on what he would do if he was running the Lakers. The problem is that it doesn't take long to connect the dots of Does LeBron want this? His agent is talking about this. And now if you're covering the Lakers, what are you doing? You're gonna say, hey, LeBron, Rich Paul said that you should trade Austin Reeves to get Jaren Jackson. What do you think? Do you agree? I don't know if I need my agent to have a podcast, but Rich Paul went on to say he believes Austin Reeves would thrive in Memphis and the Grizzlies would pay him what he deserves. He wrapped up the argument by stating the building blocks of a contender would be there with Don Church and Jaren Jackson Jr. The third. Oh, I like them getting Jaren Jackson Jr. I do. I think he's a really good player. But Austin Reeves is still on the Lakers and if you're covering the Lakers, you're certainly asking LeBron what his take is. Okay, Yeah, but they gotta maybe do something. I was, I was watching JJ Redick at a press conference and he looks miserable. It's just. There's such a bad defensive team, and it just drives him crazy. You can. He doesn't. He's never hid his emotions like it's there, and he's just kind of rattling off stats, and it just. It just seems like, God, we're terrible. You know, we should be this. We should be that. Well, when your best player doesn't play defense, you know. Now, granted, Luca doesn't maybe have to play a lot of defense, but it would be nice if he played a little bit of defense. Yes, Marvin.
Mark
But two things. First, he can't play defense even if he tried. He doesn't just. He just doesn't have the foot speed. He just can't play defense at the NBA level.
Dan Patrick
So. All right, let's.
Mark
Let's not do that.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Mark
But also, if you're a Lakers fan, this is like, oh, my gosh, more drama that we don't need. Richard. Like LeBron, your agent has a podcast, and he's talking about trading our second or third best player.
Dan Patrick
Yes.
Mark
This just adds on. And we're trying to compete for, I guess, a championship.
Dan Patrick
Then I saw where Anthony Davis, the NBA's version of a Carfax, he's injured again and going to miss I don't know how many weeks, but they're eventually going to trade. They'll find somebody who'll go, you know what we need? Anthony Davis. Somebody should do the game of operation where it's just Anthony Davis with all the injuries, and then you. You pick out a. Like a bone out of it, and then. Or it'll buzz if you touch the side. If you're old enough to remember the game of operation. Anthony Davis, he's had injuries I didn't know were possible. Like, it. It feels like it's 30 injuries that he's had or, you know, conditions or something that he's had in his career. Yeah. Pauling.
Paulie
The past eight years, Anthony Davis has played more than 65 games once.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Yes. Todd.
Mark
Does he come out with some kind of street clothes collection? You know, everyone has their own line. Maybe it's something to look into, make a few bucks off not playing.
Dan Patrick
But when you bring. You know, you look at a car and you want to see the Carfax. Like, that's. That's what, you know, I want to see how many collisions have you been in fender benders. Anthony Davis. I can't imagine somebody who's been injured as often as Anthony Davis in the history of the NBA. Like, there's guys who Play through things. It doesn't feel like Anthony Davis plays through anything. It's like, oh, what? I don't know. Yes. Mark.
Mark
He's got a constant grimace on his face. No matter what he's putting up, 40 and 20 something's always hurting.
Dan Patrick
The team has a grimace on their face, too, because they're paying him to not do anything.
Mark
And they traded Luca Doncic.
Dan Patrick
I know. Well, because you win with defense.
Mark
You got to be out there to play defense.
Dan Patrick
Yes. The best ability is availability. You got to be out there to be able to play. And that's why, you know, you're looking at the mav situation and you go, okay, we've turned the team over to a 19 year old who should really be playing his freshman year in college. And Cooper Flag, I thought that he would just kind of ease into the lineup and. But that's with Kyrie and Anthony Davis. And he would be like maybe, you know, 15, eight guy, something like that. Now all of a sudden you go out on the floor, you got to be the guy. There's no Kyrie, no Anthony Davis. It's. You're the guy. You're 19 years of age. Incredible. Tony in California. Hi, Tony. What's on your mind?
Caller/Listener
Hey, good morning, guys.
Maria Hinojosa
Hey.
Caller/Listener
So, Dan, it's a. It's a great day to be a Clipper fan. Can you believe it? Reggie Aloysius is jumped on the bandwagon yesterday. Clippers are 10 and 2. Best record in the NBA over the last month and cool.
Dan Patrick
I play in like Kobe. All right. Do you think it's sustainable, Tony?
Caller/Listener
Well, amidst this hot streak, an article came out last weekend. It's not the 10 worst seasons, it's 10 most depressing seasons for the Clippers. And already they're listed this season in the top 10.
Dan Patrick
You know, at least you tried. You know, you even gave Kawhi a fake job. Like, yeah, you're trying, they're trying. You got James Harden there. I'd retire a jersey. You know, I would do something to, you know. How about a celebration?
Paulie
You mean Loy Vought night is really going to bring the people?
Dan Patrick
If it's Loy Vaught, I'm fine with that, too. Tom Chambers. Wasn't he a Clipper at one point? Yes. Marvin.
Mark
You bring Chris Paul back.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Mark
To retire his jersey. That won't be awkward.
Dan Patrick
Ty Lue out there shaking his hand. Lawrence Frank out there. Steve Ballmer. Yes. Todd.
Mark
Mark Jackson doing up with the Clippers to warrant something. I know it's a stretch a little.
Dan Patrick
Bit, but they haven't retired to Jersey, but you got that new arena maybe that you want to wait until.
Mark
Until what?
Caller/Listener
Why.
Dan Patrick
Kawhi retires. Why?
Mark
He's kind of been retired.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. But he, you know, when he shows you those flashes where you go, God, what if? What if. And that's going to be his career, what he did. And then. And he started out, you know, that's a Hall of Fame trajectory. Winning titles and then going to Toronto. And then all of a sudden, it was like the artist formerly known as Kawhi Leonard. And he'll be a Hall of Famer, but just what he could have been. Yeah.
Paulie
Paulie, I'm looking at Kawhi's game log, like you said, when he plays, it's fantastic. Just in the past month, he had a game of 45.
Dan Patrick
7. Yeah.
Paulie
Last month he had a game of 55 and 11.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Paulie
I mean, this. If you just look at it blindly and you look at his stats, like, oh, he's a very good player, but.
Dan Patrick
It'S almost as if, yeah, he put up 55. He's going to have to take a couple of days off, a couple of games off. But when he comes back, let's see Tripp in Vegas. Hi, Tripp. Welcome back. What do you have for me?
Paulie
Hey, good morning, Dan.
Caller/Listener
Thanks for taking my call. I got a show question and then a Tomlin comment. At what point? Yesterday, after the third hour and this morning, did you hire Paulie back?
Dan Patrick
Paulie came back. He sat out the last hour. He was not feeling well, and we sent him home. Seaton said, you know, did I fire Paul yesterday?
Seaton
I just thought it was inappropriate that you fired him mid show.
Dan Patrick
I felt bad. And then I was trying to stay.
Seaton
Paul in your honor. I was trying to stage a walk out. We were all going, thank you.
Paulie
Everyone has their time. Some things run its course. Like Mike Tomlin.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Yeah. Always under the weather. He fought through two hours.
Seaton
The shows had, what, 18, 19 years, too. It's basically the same timeline.
Dan Patrick
Well, this is his consecutive game streak is still alive. Yeah, he. He did show up. It. You know, it's like, who is it? Josh Allen took a snap in the last game of the regular season to keep his consecutive game street.
Paulie
Oh, is that right?
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Lee in Florida. Hi, Lee. What's on your mind?
Caller/Listener
Hey, D.P. how you doing?
Dan Patrick
Good, sir.
Caller/Listener
One last comment just on Mike Tomlin.
Maria Hinojosa
And.
Caller/Listener
And I totally agree with you on, you know, he's gonna sit out. But also, don't you think. I mean, after 10 years of all those Quarterbacks and that rotation. He's gonna wait to have one of the best quarterbacks, offensive quarterbacks in the league before he takes another job. And I'll, I'll listen up there. Thanks.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, well, chances are you don't get too many openings when you have a real good quarterback. Unless it would be Buffalo Johnny in Pittsburgh. Hi Johnny. What's on your mind, agents?
Caller/Listener
A6 3A husky 263 quick things. I feel like I'm already exhausted from all this, but a couple quick things. The draft is I believe in less than 100 days whoever takes a gig on top of job security has the draft forthcoming with a lot of stacked picks. Number one, number two. There's a lot of comparisons here I believe to the Sean Payton situation in the difference between resignation and getting terminated is that even if he takes a year off and he comes back, I think there's a good faith agreement. He doesn't go to a competitor but if he does, there is they are owed compensation. I believe that is the case with, with Tomlinson.
Dan Patrick
For the next two years they're open there, they get compensation after that, then he's a free agent. But the next two years, if he takes another job, I don't know if there's any. Hey, if you don't go to a competitor, everybody's a competitor. I mean maybe not a direct competitor like Cleveland. If you would have said at the beginning of the year three coaches in the AFC north are going to get fired or they will step down, you would have started in Cincinnati, I'm guessing Zach Taylor and Kevin Stefanski. And then you would have probably said, wait a minute, are you telling me that John Harbaugh or Mike Tomlin won't be coaching their team next year? And then it turns out Cincinnati keeps their head coach German or Herman in Florida.
Caller/Listener
There you go, German. Perfect.
Dan Patrick
Hey Dan.
Caller/Listener
First time, long time. Five nine. Stout. 220. South Florida firefighter.
Dan Patrick
Stout.
Caller/Listener
Die hard Steelers fan. Listen, I still remember exactly where I was when Mike Tom was named head coach. And I'll be honest, I was pretty devastated at first because the Post Gazette had leaked. Russ Grim was our guy. Dealers nation was fired up. We couldn't wait. Awesome career. I mean the guy was just a solid especially coward stamp of approval. Then news breaks. Some young guy absolutely floored the Rooneys in his in his interview. 19 years later, I couldn't be more grateful. Mike Tom is an outstanding individual, true leader of men and we are better fans for having coached the Steelers for nearly two decades.
Dan Patrick
I agree These coaches don't come very often. They're not available. He did a great job there. Did he underachieve at times? Yes. Did he overachieve at times? Yes, he did. Do you go back to, you know, the Rooney Rule? He got the opportunity to do the interview and it felt like the Steelers were already hiring Russ Grimm. And I talked to Tony Dungee about this and Tony said that Mike Tomlin went in there and blew him away, that it felt like Russ Grimm was getting the job. But they went through the process of the Rooney Rule and that's why, you know, two other coaching candidates, African American, and I remember them telling me they weren't going to get the job. And I said, but you get better by doing the interview because you'll hear sometimes, oh, that coach didn't interview well. Go in and learn what they ask you. So when you get that chance and maybe you blow them away like Mike Tomlin did. And it's tough to say that for me, a white person telling an African American candidate, yeah, you're probably not getting the job, but don't pass up the opportunity to understand what they're going to ask you in a job search. And not all teams are the same, but you can go in there and go, oh my gosh, I never thought of that. Or next time around I will have these answers and maybe it's, you know, I'm going to blow you away with my personality. I'm going to blow you away with my knowledge. And, and you know, that has happened before where somebody is not the second or third candidate. They go in there and they end up stealing the job. All right? Because it's an inexact science when you're bringing people in to tell you about your football team and they may tell you something that you don't know and that's when they pique your interest. All right, we'll take a break. Last call for phone calls. What we learned, what's in store tomorrow after this. Thanks for listening to the Dan Patrick show podcast. Be sure to catch us live every weekday morning, 9 until noon Eastern, 6 to 9 Pacific, on Fox Sports Radio. And you can find us on the iHeartRadio app at FSR or stream us live on the Peacock app. More phone calls coming up. Last call for phone calls. What we learn what's in store tomorrow. I was just told that there is a, a little boy, he's a little over one years, one year old, not one years old. And he's watching the show. He's there with his dog and his dad is there with him, but he said, hey, my son's locked in to watching the show. So little Jacob, who's watching? We. We say hello. Did we come up with a onesie on this show? Like a Dan Patrick show? Onesie. Did we have that at one point, Seaton?
Seaton
Yeah, we did. Back in the day, we had some.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, that was just for Todd.
Paulie
That's true.
Mark
But then it evolved into something.
Paulie
There's a threesy.
Dan Patrick
Wow.
Mark
It was a threesie. It was a 3XL. It was a threesie.
Dan Patrick
Let's see this dance. Sports history, phone calls. Steeler press conference in about 15 minutes from now. Corey in Indiana. I don't expect much out of the press conference unless the members of the media really want to dive and dig down and find out if Mike Tomlin was fired or he step down. That would be, I think, the only part of this. Now you're going to ask about Aaron Rodgers, they're going to say, well, you know, we got to do our exit interview. I mean, there's. There's ways of dancing around all these questions. It depends on how forthcoming they want to be. Yeah.
Paulie
Paulie, imagine the press asks the owner of the Sealers, can you walk us through your meeting, your final meeting with Mike Tomlin and who initiated his departure?
Dan Patrick
And all he has to do is say, mike came to my office, he sat down, and we exchanged pleasantries, and he said, you know, the more I've been thinking about this, the more that I'd like to step away from this. I've given you everything I got. We didn't get over the hump. We didn't win playoff games. And maybe it's. Maybe it's best that I go my way and you go your way, and I'll help you in any way possible. If, you know, you want my opinion on bringing in a coaching candidate, oh, I'll help you in any way. That's probably how I. I would sum it up if I'm the owner. Yes.
Mark
Todd, what if the fans were chanting, somehow, we love Tom later, don't leave Tomlin. Would that have changed his mind at all?
Dan Patrick
Well, there's no. There's no fans at the press conference.
Mark
Oh, not at the press, guys. But over these past several weeks, if they were showing support somehow and doing the opposite of like, get out of here, we're done with your fire.
Dan Patrick
Corey in Indiana. Hi, Corey. What's on your mind today?
Caller/Listener
Hey, DP Show. Thanks for having me. 62185. I'm an Indiana University grad, and I was Curious. Your thoughts on the ticket prices for the national championship game. Miami fans had access as soon as the game was over. Indiana fans had to wait. Feel like the prices are getting driven up. What are you guys thoughts?
Dan Patrick
That's capitalism. That's, you know, they're pretty hot. Pretty steep.
Seaton
Still pretty stupid.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Yeah, it's unfortunate.
Seaton
Yeah, that's what we do. The whole, like, never met anybody who had enough money.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Seaton
Show me a billionaire who doesn't want more money. That's why they shouldn't.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Seaton
Because that's stupid crap.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, it's unfortunate. You know, you would hope that Indiana would be able to get access just like Miami fans. Ken in South Dakota. Hi, Ken.
Caller/Listener
Hi. Thanks for having me. 5, 10, 2, 3, 0. The other day you said, you mentioned that you were didn't know how long until you were gonna hang it up. And I just had a idea for the last show to have your wives and significant others on to try to give their thoughts. And I hope you're on long enough for the Danettes to get the senior discount at Denny's. But I just wanted to hear your thoughts about that idea.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, we've toyed with the idea of having our wives on the show. It wouldn't be the last show because last show is probably going to be the Friday of the super bowl in Atlanta and there'd be too many moving parts there. But I don't know, we, we toyed with the idea doing something, having the wives on here. Copyzy in Palm Beach.
Caller/Listener
How do you do, Dan? How do you do, Danettes? Pleasure to be on with you again.
Dan Patrick
Sure.
Caller/Listener
If Mike Tomlin, he didn't want to be there. He is two years on his contract, so now he can't be a free agent. So if they really wanted to fire him, I think he got to the point. And I think you kind of know Mike much better. He's. He's a tough dude. He's good. So I think he steps away, as you said. And the Steelers, if anything, they'll get draft picks for it. My man In Indiana, he's 100% right. I live down here in South Florida. I wanted to go to the game to root on my alma mater. It's impossible.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I mean, it's close to like super bowl numbers. It's crazy. And you know what? They know, the Indiana fans, they travel and they'll spend that money this day in sports history.
Paulie
Paul, got a couple for you. 1948, plastic helmets were prohibited in the NFL. They were okay up until 48. Then they got rid of plastic helmets. It's wild. 1951 the first NFL Pro bowl game was played in Los Angeles. 1954 Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio were married. Their marriage lasted only nine months.
Dan Patrick
Sad.
Seaton
73.
Paulie
The Dolphins went undefeated and won the Super Bowl. 74. The World Football League was founded. 76. Ted Turner bought the Atlanta Braves by 12 million and an 02. Barry Bond signed a five year 90 million dollar contract with the Giants.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, Bonds made a ton of money after joining the Giants. Yes, Todd, I played tackle football with.
Mark
Friends in those plastic helmets which should have just been like some kind of thing. You put on a bookshelf and not crash into each other in a playground.
Dan Patrick
What did you learn today?
Mark
I learned that it took you three days to get through the movie one battle after another and would give the Academy Award to Sean Penn.
Dan Patrick
Yes, Satan, what did you learn?
Seaton
Mike Tomlin's future Uncertain.
Mark
Marvin, you think Sean Penn's gonna win the Oscar?
Dan Patrick
