It's your boy Kev onstage. I wanna tell you about my new podcast called Not My Best Moment where I talk to artists, athletes, entertainers, creators, friends, people I admire who've had massive success about their massive failures. What did they mess up on, what is their heartbreak and what did they learn from it? I got judged horribly.
Frank Caliendo
The judges were like, you're trash.

You are listening to the Dan Patrick show on Fox Sports Radio made it to a final hour here on this Thursday in LA Vegas, the Fountain Blue Hotel. Our home away from home, our residency here. It's only a two, two night, a two morning stay as opposed to the normal residencies. But I want to thank Fountain Blue. Beautiful place and a lot of people in town for Formula one. We thought we would try it. You know, we usually get in stay in our comfort zones. I said, let's try something different. And Fountain Blue said, we'll host. Do you want to come out? And the race is coming up this weekend on ESPN on Saturday starting at 11 Eastern. Frank Caliendo will join us coming up in about 20 minutes. When Frank. Went to dinner with Frank last night had a lot of fun, but it is a problem with Frank that you go to dinner with. So there was a table for six, but it really been should have been for 12 because Frank does all of his impersonations while you're talking to him. If you're watching on Peacock, that was the. The table there, the Entourage shot there.
Paulie Fritzing
That's nice.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, the big German was there. He took the picture with Marvin and Seaton and Paulie and Frank. Yes, Seaton.
Covino
Yeah. We actually had half of the dinner with William Shatner, but that's.
Dan Patrick
Yes. Yeah, Frank was doing William shatner for about 20 minutes there and then he did Charlie Sheen. There's always. Oh, Jon Gruden joined us last night. So I can say, hey, who'd you go to dinner with last night? John Gruden. William Shatner. Wow. Wow. Charlie Sheen, Wow. Yeah.
Covino
There's like six place settings, but 12 people at the table. Somehow.
Dan Patrick
That'd be great if Frank went in and said, I'm gonna need one more place setting for William Shatner here. Yeah, Paulie, what's funny about talking to.
Paulie Fritzing
Frank is that he really knows sports. So we were talking about, like, what do you think Lane Kiffin's gonna do? What do you think? Do you think John Gruden could be a college coach? And he has to go, you know, John Gruden, John Groot. And he just gives you a little. You cannot do it. It's like a tick. He has to give you a touch of Gruden.
Dan Patrick
8, 7, 7, 3, DP show. We'll get some phone calls coming up. Football starts tonight. Bills at the Texans. Bills favored by five and a half. We have a football game, I believe. Is this the Lane Kiffin game? Paulie, we're going to play.
Paulie Fritzing
We are going to play. Do you want to do it now?
Dan Patrick
Or later. Well, we can do it now. The calendars, by the way, are available@danpatrick.com autographed and non autographed calendars also go to the tailgate store. You can get an autograph calendar with select tailgate purchases while supplies. Last stat of the day brought to you by Panini America. The official trading cards of the Dan Patrick show. Sunday night. Buccaneers and the Rams. Matthew Stafford, the leading candidate for the MVP going against Baker Mayfield Sunday, 7 Eastern on NBC. And Peacock. Yes. Huh? Who?
Todd
Engle Wouldn't want to see that one.
Paulie Fritzing
I know, man.
Dan Patrick
You are just struggling.
Todd
I don't like that one so far in Englewood. They play in Englewood. This is. It's a big game.
Dan Patrick
Bucks ran like you're opening for Frank Caliendo right now.
Todd
Barely.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, barely that. And the audience is not going to stay for Frank.
Todd
I'm opening for the opening act of. There's another one.
Dan Patrick
There's groans out there in the audience.
Todd
They're not on my side right now.
Dan Patrick
They are not. But I try to. I try to have people on your side. You just. I. I can't help you. Help yourself.
Todd
Who Engle Wouldn't want to see Bucks ramps.
Dan Patrick
That's not good. Okay, Poll question. Seaton for the final hour of the pro. You know, it's guilt by association with you being in the back row with TOD.
Covino
I know all about it. Cooler profession. F1. Pro surfer or rodeo? F1. This is recency bias. They got 55% of the vote. Pro surfer has a solid 31. 15% for rodeo.
Dan Patrick
That's a solid.
Covino
That's a good showing.
Dan Patrick
Okay. Does it say something about the sport? If we may know more? The athletes in that sport, surfing is always Kelly Slater. Bull riding. Don't know. But we do know some of these Formula one and, and the lifestyle of that as well.
Covino
I think TV shows have helped that a lot.
Dan Patrick
Oh, my God. I mean, that's, you know, I mean, drive to survive.
Covino
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
Was incredible for that sport, but the way it's presented, I mean, it's presented to be. You're. You're in the car. It's. It's really. It's almost like a pinball or game. Video game that you're watching with real people in real time doing real scary things. Yeah. Paulie.
Paulie Fritzing
I would say, though, from a lifestyle standpoint, surfing, it's a fun sport. It's very competitive to be one of the best in the world. But you could also do it leisurely when you're off duty and you can go to the beach. Like you're not race car driving when you're off. If you're Lando Norris, like, let me get in a car this weekend. You want the weekend off. If you're a bull rider, you're like, let me grab a bronco this weekend. But if you're a surfer, the lifestyle is whether you're surfing competitively or not, you're still probably doing it.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Seaton.
Covino
Yeah. You know, the other two things, one of two of those sports potentially have wild animals involved, which for me is a real. Adds a whole other level of like, I don't know if I really want to do that, but also puts them up into the danger category. Higher for me.
Dan Patrick
Okay, so sharks and bulls.
Covino
Sharks and bulls, though, that's serious. That's. It's going to be tough to do that. You know, I get that driving, you know, 200 miles an hour is dangerous, but you're not, you know, dodging buffalo while you're doing that. Who might be attacking you.
Paulie Fritzing
That'd be a good race.
Dan Patrick
If there was. I would like that.
Covino
If there was live animals on the track and you're like, watch out for the lion. That would be really cool.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Paulie Fritzing
Paul, are we playing the game? Would you rather be gored by a bull or bitten by a shark but survive? Cuz we never played that game before. It's painful and you got to get surgery, but you do survive. Which would you prefer? You gotta pick.
Dan Patrick
Well, where am I getting gored and where am I getting bit?
Paulie Fritzing
You're gonna get gourd in the ribs.
Covino
That's not good.
Paulie Fritzing
Or bitten in the thigh.
Dan Patrick
Oh, that'll. Well, where's the thigh? Like what, what part of the thigh?
Covino
Why can't we be gourd in the same place we're bitten?
Paulie Fritzing
That's how the game is.
Dan Patrick
Good. Just take a chunk out of, you know, ribs.
Covino
That's awfully close to lungs and other signature organs.
Paulie Fritzing
Signature. You're gonna survive both.
Dan Patrick
Yes.
Todd
Todd, do you get to keep all your body parts? There's one of those where like, oh, you know, you got the shark, you pick it. But you have one arm for the rest of your life.
Dan Patrick
I just say you have scars. Just some scars, that's all. See, I would do running with the bulls. I just don't want to run with the knuckleheads who run with the bulls.
Paulie Fritzing
Just got to be faster than a couple big.
Dan Patrick
I gotta be faster than Fritzy. That would be it.
Todd
That's hard.
Dan Patrick
I go get him. I don't care about him. No.
Todd
Yes, Tom, but just for the story, I'd rather tell, like the ladies or someone I got bit by, attacked by a shark, as opposed to I put myself in a position where I got gored. That just seems like you really went out of your way to do something kind of foolish. But that doesn't happen in everyday life where you would get gored.
Dan Patrick
Well, all you want to do is say, you want to see my stitches, you want to see my scars, that would be it. And if you said, oh, I got gored by a bull. Oh, you a matador.
Todd
How'd that happen on West 54? Well, I decided to run and go to Pamplona.
Dan Patrick
And yes, Paulie, you walk into a.
Paulie Fritzing
Bar in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and you show the girls 80 stitches from a bull gore, you're walking out with 10 or 12.
Dan Patrick
Wow.
Paulie Fritzing
Easy.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Paulie Fritzing
I research this.
Dan Patrick
Okay. Yeah. Marvin, you offering something?
Frank Caliendo
Same thing. You go to Malibu. Oh, I got bitten by.
Paulie Fritzing
Yeah.
Frank Caliendo
Oh, where? The thigh.
Dan Patrick
You want to see it?
Covino
Come back Surfing. You're like chasing the Thousand year storm. You know, if we go Point Break on him or the 100 year storm or whatever, he's not coming back. Those are all pretty awesome things. That's pretty epic. Like, you go to Mavericks and ride there. Dude, that's serious, man. I don't get how many people actually have the guts to even paddle out.
Dan Patrick
Bodhi would.
Covino
Yeah, Bodhi's a legend. That's why.
Dan Patrick
But he never came back.
Covino
Yeah, he's immortal.
Dan Patrick
Yes.
Covino
Paul lives on forever.
Paulie Fritzing
I think there's more bull riding movies than there are race car movies and surfing movies. If you think about it like the last rodeo. Longest ride, eight seconds. Urban cowboy. There's been a lot of bull riding movies.
Dan Patrick
Classic ton of race car movies, I wouldn't say.
Todd
Yeah.
Paulie Fritzing
Days of thunder, F1.
Dan Patrick
Those are the biggies you've had. What. What was the one?
Frank Caliendo
Ricky Bobby.
Dan Patrick
Ricky Bobby?
Frank Caliendo
Yeah.
Paulie Fritzing
That's a film. Stroker Ace with Burt Reynolds back in the day.
Dan Patrick
Smokey and the Bandit.
Paulie Fritzing
Oh, yeah.
Dan Patrick
There's so many race car movies like. I don't know if those bull riding movies are great. No.
Covino
Love for Gran Turismo. Ford versus Ferrari.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, Ford Versus.
Covino
That was a good movie. That was a good movie.
Paulie Fritzing
Good movie. Rush.
Dan Patrick
Yes. Ron Howard did Rush. Did he do that? Was that. Was that Helmsworth? Hemsworth, yes.
Paulie Fritzing
Way too good looking.
Covino
Did we say Cars, the animated?
Dan Patrick
Oh, yeah. Cars, the animated. Yeah. Yes, Todd.
Todd
Are the Vin Diesel movies where they made 37.
Dan Patrick
I'm gonna. I'm gonna include that. No, that's Race car drive.
Paulie Fritzing
That's street racing. They laugh at that.
Dan Patrick
They laugh at street cars.
Paulie Fritzing
Race car drivers, true race car drivers, think those guys are posers.
Dan Patrick
We're racing for pinks and you're saying that they're posers.
Paulie Fritzing
I'm not making fun.
Dan Patrick
I'm gonna lose my car. Imagine if I said to Leonard Lando Norris, you're going to lose your car. So if you don't beat Max Verstappen, you lose your car.
Paulie Fritzing
So in the winter circle, he has to sign.
Dan Patrick
He has to sign over the papers.
Paulie Fritzing
That's good tv.
Todd
That's like racing for pinks.
Dan Patrick
Like they did in Greece.
Todd
Yeah, I need a little high pitch there.
Dan Patrick
Thank you, Todd. I just said that. I just said that.
Frank Caliendo
That's fine.
Covino
Oh, my gosh.
Todd
You said the movie Greece.
Dan Patrick
No, I said racing for pinks.
Todd
Okay. I was. But I just. For those of us of a certain age, they may not know that's from Greece.
Frank Caliendo
That's a big lie.
Todd
In the movie Greece.
Frank Caliendo
But Dan said.
Dan Patrick
Wait, that's all right.
Covino
Let's just move on.
Paulie Fritzing
Eleven surfing movies. Endless Summer, Blue Crush, Chasing Mavericks, Point Break, of course, Riding Giants, Point Break.
Dan Patrick
Remake, too.
Paulie Fritzing
Oh, that. I won't watch that.
Dan Patrick
Well, they had White Men Can't Jump on the Flight, the remake. And so there the woman next to me, I could see she was watching it. And they. We got landed in Vegas. And I said, how was the movie? And she goes, okay, if your expectations are really low, it wasn't bad. And I said, she goes, it's all in how you, you know, you're going into that movie, you don't expect it to be good. And it wasn't. So I. I lowered my expectations. So I. I don't need to watch the remake of White Man Can't Jump. Wasn't that guy Jack Harlow?
Paulie Fritzing
Harlow, he.
Dan Patrick
Is he still a big deal? Because he was a big deal when he did that movie. Is he a rapper? Jack Harlow? Yes. Big deal.
Covino
I think so.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Covino
He kind of like is in that downtime right now between album cycles. I would guess he might be in the lab, as they say. Oh, he might currently be in the lab.
Dan Patrick
Let's do the Lane Kiffin game that I didn't know we were going to play today, but I'm glad we are.
Paulie Fritzing
Well, things are spiking up a little bit. Lane Kiffin's answering questions about his future, and it won't be decided in the next few weeks, but we want to go on record today. In three months from now, Lane Kiffin will Be coaching lsu, Florida, Ole Miss. Other who would like to go first?
Dan Patrick
Todd go first.
Todd
He will remain at Ole Miss.
Dan Patrick
Gangston, Florida. Melvin, Florida. I'm going to go Florida.
Paulie Fritzing
Oh, man. I'm going to go lsu. You don't get the call that often.
Dan Patrick
Seems like there's too many. Too many people involved in that. Governor got involved. That'd make me nervous.
Paulie Fritzing
LSU is a wounded animal right now, no pun intended. With the tiger, they could afford it. And the recruiting base is always there for lsu.
Dan Patrick
I know it's hard. I just don't want. I wish the governor's involved, and then your athletic. Athletic director is going to, you know, they're going to hire somebody else or they promote somebody, and then all of a sudden you're looking over your shoulder waiting for the governor to go, you know, thumbs up or thumbs down with this. I don't like that at all. Yeah, Marvin.
Frank Caliendo
Now, if LSU was offering the same money as Ole Miss, do you leave for the prestige of having the LSU or Florida job, or do you keep Ole Miss because they're the best team out of all three currently constructed?
Dan Patrick
So if you're saying is if the money was the same, Given everything that's involved with lsu, I would look at LSU just for the talent. I just don't want to deal with kind of the periphery. God, if you bring a national title to Ole Miss, they've had national titles at lsu, in Florida, Ole Miss. This. This is like the Red Sox winning their first World Series. That'd be incredible.
Frank Caliendo
He'd be like Dabo Sweeney.
Dan Patrick
That would be. He'd be bigger than Dabo Sweeney.
Frank Caliendo
Well, I'm just saying, a team that you would. You wouldn't expect to win a national title.
Dan Patrick
Clemson has won a national title. Before Dabo got there.
Frank Caliendo
I wasn't born then. So in my head, I was like.
Dan Patrick
Clemson, are you going to do what my kids do when they say, well, if. If I said something about history, I wasn't born then, like, it didn't happen because you weren't alive.
Todd
Yes.
Dan Patrick
What? Send it. Perry Tuttle. Yes. Perry Tuttle.
Frank Caliendo
Yeah.
Paulie Fritzing
Wide receiver. Good for you.
Dan Patrick
And I'm taking meds right now. I'm on drugs right now.
Frank Caliendo
Yes, you are.
Dan Patrick
Yes, I am. Yes. Seaton.
Covino
You know what I kind of like, though, about LSU over those other programs that we mentioned? Lsu. This is just my own perception, necessarily, but they have an edge to them as a school and as a program that I think is pretty awesome that I don't know that, like, say, Florida or ole Ms. Have LSU has a certain cool factor to them that I think it's pretty rad.
Dan Patrick
A night game in lsu.
Frank Caliendo
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
There's still something to be said about.
Covino
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Paulie Fritzing
I do wonder if a guy like Lane Kiffin is hoping for the best scenario. Almost like Kawhi Leonard in Toronto. If I could somehow pull off a title for Ole Miss and walk away. I serve both Masters. I, I did it for everybody. And he would. They give him a statue at Ole Miss and they'd be mad that he's gone, but he could go with like, I did it. I did it for you guys and you'll, you'll have it forever. I mean, that's an ideal situation and there's a long way to go.
Dan Patrick
But he's got to hold off all of this conversation, all of these questions for another month and a half because he can't take the job while Ole Miss is having its best season ever.
Paulie Fritzing
He's, he's never had this much leverage like the Ole Miss fans. They probably don't want the press, local press jumping on him to bother him. Like, let coach do his thing and trust the process.
Dan Patrick
Well, how about he does his thing and he doesn't send his family to Florida and lsu. That'd be doing your thing with what you're paying him for. I don't think his wife need, ex wife needs to take a tour of Florida or LSU Baton Rouge in the fall.
Paulie Fritzing
It's a lovely place.
Todd
Todd does Lane Kiffin, if all the money is the same, need one of those jobs, ego or resume wise, as far as positions he's already held and where he is in the landscape of, you know, coaches to have to take the LSU of Florida.
Dan Patrick
I don't know. I mean, you know, the ego of these coaches is how long do I stay, do I jump before I'm forced out? What's my next challenge? I think they're, they're not inclined to be somebody who sets up routes. It's kind of it. It feels like rent, not by. But there's certain coaches. That's what they think. Hey, if I don't take this job like Kirk Ferenc in Iowa for years. Oh, you got to include Kirk Ference for NFL jobs or other college jobs. He wasn't going anywhere. And I do have respect for that, that you have a job, you want to make that job. Joe Paterno at Penn State, you know, Mike Krzyzewski flirted with the NBA, with the Lakers. But building something and maintaining something, it feels like it's easier to build Something and then leave as opposed to build something and maintain something. It's like Danny Hurley staying at Connecticut. That made more sense. That's who he is. But your ego goes, I can coach the Lakers, so what? You can coach a team and become one of the greatest college coaches of all time. Yes, Paul.
Paulie Fritzing
I think Fritz, he's got a good point though, about ego. Lane Kiffin, 16, 17 years ago, was the hot young candidate. He got the Raiders job. Was he 31? I mean, that was unprecedented. He was the future of football coaching college or pro. He got Tennessee and he left for USC by choice. And then he had to coach at Florida Atlantic. No offense, but that is. It's a minor league. It was a temp stop. And I think a guy like him can see the ego thing of. I want to be pursued by the number one job in college football, which is lsu, as my rechorination. Whether he. It's conscious or subconscious.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I'm sure, you know, everybody has an ego. And he probably wants. He got humbled. He got humbled a couple of times here. He got fired on the tarmac by usc. Al Davis treated him like he was a kid. Didn't give him any authority to do anything there. What happened to Tennessee? You. Hey, where are you coaching? Florida Atlantic. But Ole Miss gave him a job. Gave him an opportunity.
Paulie Fritzing
Yeah, Paulie, here's my Hollywood comp for Lane Kiffin. Ben Affleck, great early career going well in his 20s. And then he has a couple hiccups. More than a couple hiccups. Then he becomes the town, he becomes a director, and he's back on top of Hollywood again.
Dan Patrick
When does JLO come into this picture?
Paulie Fritzing
Florida Atlantic.
Dan Patrick
I like that. Oh, she was already there. I thought you meant Florida.
Paulie Fritzing
Florida Atlantic.
Frank Caliendo
JLo.
Dan Patrick
JLo's Florida Atlantic.
Paulie Fritzing
Well, the last days at USC are the gilly for. Okay, I'm workshopping this.
Dan Patrick
I can tell. Yep. Good thing it wasn't Todd doing this.
Paulie Fritzing
Someone's going to steal that. Colin's going to steal that one.

I mentioned that going to dinner with you is like going to dinner with five or six different people. So.
Frank Caliendo
Well, it happens a lot. Like little bits of stories happen. Right. Like we were talking about that. I'll get to the full story eventually on here. But just hanging out with William Shatner, I was with him at an event the Other day, I kept trying to lock eyes with him and try to get him to fight. There was a kind of like a. What's the problem? I don't know. He's like, I don't talk the way people say I talk. Why do they do that? Why do they say I speak this way? I'm like, you're 94.
Dan Patrick
I know.
Frank Caliendo
Why am I so angry at 94? But people tend to do that, captain's log, that kind of thing. And when he just talks, he just talks like this. But you can't help from wanting to talk like it.
Dan Patrick
But the point of view, when you, when you impersonate somebody, imitate somebody, but then what are you going to say when you use that voice? Like the context of it, how difficult is that?
Frank Caliendo
I think that's one of the most difficult things because otherwise you're just a parrot, right? If you're doing the, the voice of the person, you're, you're not trying, you're not finding something funny with it. We were talking about Charlie Sheen on the show a couple, when he was on the show a couple of weeks ago. And you. I was at Seaton that noticed the same thing I did. He would repeat the question back that you would ask. Yeah. So I, I, I asked that. Huh? I said, that candidate. Okay. And did that go well? No. All right. Okay.
Covino
Then people watch this. You say, so you're saying people had a reaction to this.
Frank Caliendo
People saw me do this and you didn't enjoy it or you did. Did I, did I kill somebody? Did somebody die?
Dan Patrick
But in fairness to him, he doesn't remember, though.
Frank Caliendo
No, that was the amazing. I made a, I did a little social media post that was based on that. It was Halloween candies and I, he would, he had pixie sticks. I was like, those straws with sugar in them. That is sugar. That's what that is. Is that sugar? And it was from this, your interview with him that I was like, I picked up that. He says something, he questions it afterward. Like, is that, is that right or not? Okay, all right. I was alive during this, right? So it's, it's just, it's finding those little pieces. Terry Bradshaw is easy, not fun. If Frank not funny. Charles Buckley thinks everything's terrible, that damn, that's really, really bad. And the shot is not cheating, you know, so it's you. They find those little things. What does the person do? The old school ones seem to be a lot easier. I think the newer people are a little more difficult because people have like, the wide range Like De Niro's become, you know, a caricature of himself. Everybody does that. Okay, we're doing this now. He does that. He's in the movie. Here we go. Samuel L. Jackson has a cadence. They, the writers write the cadence. It's. And you, you know, there's certain words in there too, right? But that's the, that's the song of. How many Christopher Walken's have you heard? Low, high in the middle. But you know who it is, right? Because of that little song that they sing.
Dan Patrick
Does Gruden know that he's doing Gruden when he talks?
Frank Caliendo
I think, I think no, I don't know. I can't really tell. But he's, he's. He's into it so much. I mean, he is Gruden times a million. I mean, when he was a coach, there were a lot of people that. It was, it was a love and hate kind of thing. Now people just seem to love him. He's opening boxes every there. We gotta hear, man, let's open this thing up. It's gonna be pretty good right here, man. I tell you what, he's one of those guys that gets excited out of nowhere when I, when I did that hard knocks with him. I'm gonna yell for no reason, man. Why am I mad right now?
Dan Patrick
So you don't think Gruden's playing? Gruden?
Frank Caliendo
I think he just is free. I think he's free and just doing what he wants to do. I think that's kind of it. He's just free to be himself. Like he would do crazy things on Monday Night Football when, when he was there, there were some certain. And he just is doing that type of stuff all the time. But you can't. It's one of those guys that hit you when he talks. It's constantly, man. You like that, huh? Yeah. Be careful. You ever see his hands? His hands sound like Wreck It Ralph or something like that. They're just massive, you know, he puts them up. He's doing this kind of thing. Like he's doing a magic reveal here we call this the Prestige. You ever get 13 minutes into that movie? Man, I tell you what, it's a pretty good one. You should see the ending tricks you.
Dan Patrick
When do you know when to retire somebody?
Frank Caliendo
I don't know. I bring them back little bits. I mean that, that's, that's one of.
Dan Patrick
The things is like, is John Madden always going to be well with the.
Frank Caliendo
Madden movie coming back? And I think I talked to you guys about that. That'll be big again. I mean, it's like. And they. I don't know if I brought this up to you guys before, but they asked me to audition for that movie for the part of Howard Cosell. Like, I wasn't gonna get it, but I think they just wanted me to talk to Nicolas Cage about being. Do you know if I talked about this? But I guess I could just tell the story again. But it was like. It was. I get. I got a text from my agent, Nicholas Cage, and the director want to call you. Want to do a zoom call with you. I'm like, no. Like, what do you mean, no? I'm like, no. I want to hang out with Nicolas Cage if I'm going to give him the recipe to the Madden. I want to hang out with Nicolas Cage in Vegas. I want to do Leslie Stahl walk and talk. I want to ride sidecar to the Ghost Rider. I want to. I want him to show me as exotic animals. Like, here's my monitor lizard. What would John Madden say to this monitor lizard? We're gonna steal the Declaration of Independence. So it's like, I wanted that kind of a thing. I didn't want to do a zoom. It's static, you know, and he could get out of it anytime I wanted to force him to have to. And that's probably why they didn't do it, was they. They didn't want to take that time. But John man never liked me. He finally kind of turned around when I met him at the super bowl years later. But it was. I didn't know anything about him. Like, I think they were trying to do research and that's what it was going to be. They were going to try and ask me a bunch of questions about John Man. Like, I didn't really know him. I just met him once.
Dan Patrick
Do you do a Howard Cosell?
Frank Caliendo
I don't. And it was. This is how it goes. I mean, it would be that and bad the whole time. And one of the reasons I don't do it is because it's so old that some of the impressions I've done throughout the years, I'm like, well, this is. Like you said, you're. When do you retire them? Well, that Howard Cosell was, you know, two generations before John Madden. So I don't know, it gets a little weird there. And who remembers? Only the oldest of people. Remember, you do Howard cosell on a TikTok video. Nobody cares. I mean, that. Then they. The next thing that plays because you're in the algorithm is Billy Crystal doing it from 40 years to 60 years ago. I didn't even know you could do it anymore. So I threw, I threw in a Billy Crystal for you.
Dan Patrick
And you know, with a comedian it's trickier. If you're in a band and you play the hits well then you get to play the hits the next place and the next place. But as a comedian, like in a year from now, you can't have the same stand up act of saying it.
Frank Caliendo
Has to evolve and, and people's voices change. By the way, this, this the Thunderblue Hotel. I told you this when you texted me about coming here. This is my go to hotel. And it's because of your show. I list when you guys were here at the Super Bowl a couple years ago. I heard you there. We were coming for NBA Summer League and I was like, where should we stay, my son? I look, oh that's, I found a blue and I'm like, that's where Dan was. It's got, it's got to be good if, if Dan's there. So, and we looked at the price, we're like, holy cow. We were here. We actually booked another place to go afterward. Like we're going back to Thunderblue. Like because we didn't know what it was going to be like. We checked out, we, we ended up coming back and now this is, this is where I stay most of the time. So where was I going with that was it.
Dan Patrick
We were, we were talking about that.
Frank Caliendo
Oh well, voices change too. So here's, here's another thing too. So if you heard on the TVs, that's what made me think of fountain blue on the TVs the Hall of Excellence. Oh, I was gonna say Brady, but that's playing and it's Morgan Freeman narrating it. But he's 90 year old Morgan Freeman. Look. How old is it? Shatner's like, he's a young man. But if you listen to Morgan Freeman now, he's, he's got a much older man. He's like, this is Morgan Freeman. It's not that thing. You know, truth of the matter is it's not that anymore. It's even and not a, this isn't a political thing. But if you listen to Donald Trump now, he doesn't have the same voice he had 10 years ago. Everybody, A lot of people do that. Well, you know, that big. I do the quiet one, the very quiet. The library. Trump with the tremendous books in the library there. Great books filled with some of the best words and they get the greatest words and these words form something called sentences. And the sentences, they end up making sense. And we don't know. We don't know. I like when he does that. Then I got to even it out with a little Biden, right, folks?
Todd
Come on, what are you doing?
Frank Caliendo
Yeah, with the thing. I don't have to tell you. I grew up in Scranton, Pennsylvania. 30, 45, 60. It's like a drunk auctioneer. 606. 600 A.D. he was the fall of the Roman Empire. The Roman led by the salad guy. Caesar defeated by Mario Luigi Romans. Folks, we're not sure what's going on, but how often. Here's the trite, folks.
Todd
Come on.
Dan Patrick
Like it. With. With your shows. Wait, where are you going? No, we're not done yet, Mr. President. We're not done yet. What at your shows though, at the very end, you get this. Everybody just starts yelling out names.
Frank Caliendo
People do if I don't get to them. Like I forget to do Stephen A. Smith sometimes. And I understand. I do, I do. Stephen A. Talk I think you guys talked about on the show. Stephen A. Talking about Bronnie after the fact. I understand where you're going with super serious Stephen A. Oh, yeah. Where we're with some of these things and we have to contemplate in perpetuity where it just trails down to end in nothingness. And we're wondering where it is.
Dan Patrick
Once you go down low, then it gets real serious.
Frank Caliendo
Jay Pharaoh has like the super hyped up version. So he's got that great. By the way, when we're walking, I listened to the beginning of the show because I wanted to hear how you guys talk about when Matt Friend walked by. And I never say hello to him. I don't know him, but he's. He's a very good. Like, there's some. He's great. There's him, there's Jay Farrow. There's a kid named Cameron Logsdon. My friend John Holmberg might be one of the best I've ever seen. But these, there's like all kinds of impression. People, people doing impressions on the Internet now. But when Eric was like, oh, that's my friend, like you're walking with me. And the most awkward thing, oh, that's my friend.
Dan Patrick
He's the greatest impression ever.
Frank Caliendo
I was like, what is going on here? This is the most. I thought it was kind of cool.
Dan Patrick
So we're coming back from dinner, we go into the hotel and the big German is there. And all of a sudden this 27 year old matt Friend who has blown up the last.
Frank Caliendo
He's fantastic. He's very, very good.
Dan Patrick
And here's Eric, the big German, going, oh, my God, that's my friend. He's the best impression. And then all of a sudden, Frank was there.
Frank Caliendo
Yeah. And Eric's like, oh, wait a second, there's Aries Spears. He's incredible. Oh, there's Jay Farrell. What's he doing here? There's Ross Marquis. They're all incredible. These are some of the best people I've ever seen. Oh, Frank, what are you doing tomorrow? Yeah, well, I'm already on the show as a friend of the show, but now it seems that I've gone down the ladder.
Dan Patrick
Do you know that I'm texting with Fritzi as we're walking in the lobby to say, matt friend, I think, is staying at the hotel. We need to get him on. Paulie is walking and texting Fritzi at the same. So we're walking with you, talking to you while we're going, hey, Todd, Matt friend is, I think, in the hotel. Let's see if we can get him on. And then Fritz, he goes, yeah, I just heard from Paul, and Paul's right there next to me. So we're. We're doing that when we're walking with you last night.
Frank Caliendo
I think it's funny. I'll walk by you guys at the Super Bowl. And he goes, hey, Frank. Everybody keeps going, nobody text me.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, yeah. We walked into the lobby last night, and Fritz, he wasn't go to dinner. And all of a sudden we see Frank there. Oh, no.
Frank Caliendo
This. This is.
Dan Patrick
What?
Frank Caliendo
You don't know? I planned it. No, see, 100%. That was me conniving my way in. That was. I was with Marvin. We were watching the Yukon game, which is why I wore the crate and shirt Creighton pullover today. I wanted you to ask me why. What's with the. What's with the Creighton? They won last night.
Dan Patrick
Something Connecticut didn't do.
Frank Caliendo
Damn. Out of the blue, Marvin texted me last week, or early in the. Early last week it was. He wanted to do a bet. Arizona, which I should have taken.
Dan Patrick
Oh.
Frank Caliendo
And wanted a pie in the face bet. Out of that, I was like, oh, no, no, no. I was supposed to be talking about F1. We're supposed to be talking about Max Verstappen.
Dan Patrick
I'll tell you what. Oscar Piastri.
Frank Caliendo
I'll tell you what. I mean, these guys. You ever see Chuck Leclerc? I'll tell you, it's Charlie Clark. Chuck Leclerc. That's what I said, man. I don't do French.
Dan Patrick
Is that where he's from?
Frank Caliendo
Where is he from? You guys don't even know, man. Nobody knows where Charlotte Claire is from. But I'll tell you what, this guy, he's tremendous. We do a thing called the. You got to go to the break as I saw you grabbing the paper. But we do this thing called the. The f. What experiences. And I take my. My daughter is a huge F1 fan, and that's how I get most of my information. So I know all types of. She knows everything. But I'm 51 years old at this point, and I get all the information wrong. So I know little pieces and that's about it. But this is the first Vegas race I've missed because I got to go work and jackpot Nevada tonight, which is gonna be cool.
Dan Patrick
But the going to jackpot.
Todd
Yeah.
Frank Caliendo
Yeah. Which is much better than lose your house Nevada. I can't tell you. I got a million of them, you know.
Dan Patrick
What a crowd.
Frank Caliendo
Yeah. So where you were there and lose your house Nev.
Dan Patrick
I know it's not good for radio, but it is good for tv. You've been working on your Fritzi impersonation.
Frank Caliendo
Yeah. It's not any radio at all.
Dan Patrick
I gotta get the voice.
Covino
There's like a weird thing, like you swallow the bottom part of your face somehow.
Frank Caliendo
You know that guy who could eat his face? It's kind of like that. I've realized that Fritzi, basically, when he talks, he gets himself. Digs himself into a hole. Then he's like, you're in college doing an essay and trying to fill a 2,000 word essay, and you've only got 500 words. He's just filling. He's changing the margins and filling in words and saying the same thing over and over and over. He actually. We were talking over there. He decided he was done with the conversation. He clapped and went, okay, all right.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Paulie Fritzing
Frank was telling me about the texts and the emails he gets from Fritzi that are just the. The minimum of care.
Frank Caliendo
I don't understand. Like, I. I think you can. You really believe you're being nice, but it's so abrupt. Yeah, like I told you about that. I told you about doing Jim Gray's 50th birthday party years ago. Muhammad Ali was there, Dr. J. Bill Walton, all these things. He goes, pretty relevant party. Fun to be at.
Todd
I thought I said that would have been a great thing to.
Frank Caliendo
Oh, great. It would have been fun. Would have been a fun. Would have been A great experience.
Todd
So I try to be extra nice. That it comes across as somehow.
Frank Caliendo
Yeah, it does. I don't know why I gotta work on that.
Todd
Because that's not what I want.
Frank Caliendo
That's not who you are.
Dan Patrick
I think you're condescending, like kind of sending, like you're not necessarily. You don't mean it, but you. You're kind, but you. It sounds.
Todd
It somehow morphs into fake kindness or something, which is not a good thing.
Frank Caliendo
It's just the opposite of kindness by.
Dan Patrick
The time it's done. He's Frank Kaladindo. You can see him New Year's Eve in Tempe at the Improv there. And you'll be at the Funny bone in OMAH January 23rd, 24th off the Hook Comedy Club in Naples, Florida. January 30th and 31st. All tickets can be purchased at frankonstage.com thanks for being a friend of the show.
Frank Caliendo
Thanks, guys.
Dan Patrick
And there he goes. There it goes. There he goes. President Biden is leaving, leaving the show. We'll be back here from Las Vegas right after this. Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in the nation. Catch all of our shows@foxsportsradio.com and within the iHeartRadio app. Search FSR to listen live. Frank is such a big fan of the show and he's listening all the time, living in Arizona. He'll send Paulie notes or Fritzi notes during the show and he fits right in. So we appreciated that, that he came in and made it a point to join us here in Las Vegas before he goes on to his next show. But you do go to dinner with him and you, you really feel like William Shatner was there last night at dinner and Charlie Sheen and, and I and John Gruden. But he does it in. He's telling stories about these people, but he can't tell a story without actually putting himself in that story of being those people. And just the fact that he was with William Shatner, who's 94 years of age but as tough as can be, and he's telling you stories and then he goes, I, I can't tell that on the air. I said, okay, but when you do tell that, then, you know, make sure you tell it on our show. Yeah, Paulie.
Paulie Fritzing
And, and Frank's face is so expressive. When he starts the imitation, a one beat before the word comes out, his face goes into President Bush or whoever it may be, and you see it coming like, oh, he's gonna do. And then it happens. It's Wild.
Dan Patrick
And you, you talk to impressionists and they will talk to you about body language. And, you know, what's the first thing you can get into that character? Because you're using your hands or you're using your face. If I said do Jon Gruden, but you can't do Jon Gruden's face, be hard to do that then I think, you know, even John Madden was very expressive with his hands as well. But, you know, impressionists will talk about the. The face or the hands or the gestures, and it helps them get into character.
Todd
Yes, Tom, Jim Carrey is probably the best at that. To actually be able to contort your face and look like a totally different person, it's like spooky. Amazing how they do it.
Dan Patrick
I thought Frank was the best that ever did. That's awkward to say. His face, I mean, he's right here.
Todd
But now he's far enough away. I'll give him second place on that. I'll put Jim Carrey.
Frank Caliendo
I think it's Matt Friend who's the best.
Dan Patrick
Matt Friend joining us tomorrow on the program that Al, was that rude of us last night. We're coming into the fountain blue and the big German notices Mad Friend, who is a young impressionist, very, very popular on social media. And all of a sudden, and we're walking in with Frank, just had a wonderful dinner, two hours with him, and next thing I know, the big German goes, that was my friend and I didn't know Matt Friend found out a lot about him. And then all of a sudden, I'm on my. So we're walking with Frank and Frank's doing impersonating, just being Frank, and I'm going, fritzy. I think Matt Friend is staying. You know, we try to get him on the show on Friday. Paulie is doing that at the same time to you as well. Meanwhile, Frank is talking, you know, great dinner, and hey, you know, Matt Friend, he's really, really good. And then all of a sudden, we're not even listening to him.
Paulie Fritzing
Yeah, Paulie, I don't think it's wrong or rude to Frank was. Frank made it, he did it. He's had a monstrous career. Fox, tv, touring, all that stuff. TV shows.
Dan Patrick
Should we have waited until we got to the elevator and said goodbye?
Paulie Fritzing
That's not what we do, though. We gotta strike while the iron's hot. We just saw this guy.
Dan Patrick
It is a better story that we did it right in front of Frank. But the big German, like that was school girl, took his phone out.
Frank Caliendo
Guys, look at this. Look at this.
Dan Patrick
Tick tock.
Frank Caliendo
Frank. Frank. Look how good this guy is.
Dan Patrick
I was like, damn, that's not nice. The big German didn't react that way when his son was born.
Frank Caliendo
No, no, no.
Dan Patrick
He was like, oh, okay, we got a boy. Okay. His name's Jacob. Oh, did you see? Mad friend. I'm like, wow.
Frank Caliendo
I thought he's gonna took his phone. I thought he was gonna show us his son.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. No, no.
Frank Caliendo
It's my friend, not my son.
Dan Patrick
Ill. Yeah, but he looked like a million bucks. He'll be on the show tomorrow with Michael Douglas. He will join us as well. Of course, you've come to expect Michael Douglas on the program. David Croft, they call him Crofty. He covers Formula one. Really funny. He's like, roger Bennett is to soccer. He is to Formula one. He'll join us on the program tomorrow. Again, thank you. To the Fountain Blue. If you get an opportunity and you come to Vegas, think of the fountain blue. They're great people to work with. Seaton, final results of the poll question.
Covino
Yeah, we got up there right now. Coolest job, F1. Pro surfer or rodeo? F1. Right now. Running away with that one. About 55% of that vote.
Dan Patrick
Okay, let's go around the room. What we learned on the program. Todd, we will do your rhyme time tomorrow at some point.
Todd
That sounds good.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Todd
Formula one cars don't have windshield wipers, or a windshield, for that matter, is what I learned.
Dan Patrick
Why don't you go look at the car?
Todd
I should take a closer look.
Dan Patrick
It's over my left shoulder there. Go over and look at it. Seaton, what'd you learn today?
Covino
Nicole Briscoe had been with ESPN about seven or eight years before her first sports center.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, she said, nothing prepares you for that. Paulie, what'd you learn today?
Paulie Fritzing
Goring versus Shark bite.
Dan Patrick
Marvin, what did you learn today?
Frank Caliendo
Cardiac bulls.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, yeah. Cardiac bulls.
Frank Caliendo
Since Wayne.
Dan Patrick
I know. Since this year. A good story, Todd. What did I learn?
Todd
Ross Tucker, confused by the group of social media detractors looking to scrutinize your door any chance they get.
Dan Patrick
Thank you again to everybody who came out today. We appreciate that. We'll do it again tomorrow. Receipt. And Paulie Fritzing. Marvin, this is an iHeart podcast.

The episode is lively, teasing, and self-aware, rooted in sports talk but constantly detouring into comedy and pop culture. The rapport is friendly, often sarcastic, with Caliendo adding bursts of energy and quick-turn impressions.
This hour gives you a sample of the show’s trademark mix: real sports debate, friendly ridicule among the crew, and engaging A-list guests who are encouraged to have fun and be a little silly. Frank Caliendo’s extended guest spot demonstrates both the craft of comedy and the warm, improvisational spirit that keeps the show fresh—even after decades.
