Channing Fry back on the program. Thanks for joining us. Oklahoma City's biggest mistake last night was what.
Seton O'Connor
Started to get stagnant in that last 6 minutes of the fourth quarter. I think if you watch that first Knicks game, the Knicks were moving the ball, the ball was finding energy and the last six minutes OKC started to play. We're trying not to lose instead of winning basketball and they stopped going at Tyrese Halliburton, they stopped attacking the paint, and they started to just give it to sga and everybody got tight. And then the Pacers said, oh, here we go. And it's just. It's. It's absolutely amazing as somebody who's played basketball, won at the highest level, played every position, whether that start, DNP came off the bench to see how locked in for 48 minutes Indiana is consistently. It's just death by a thousand cuts, right? It is. They put T.J. mcConnell in. He's playing at a high level. They put Neesmith in. He's playing high level. You know, then they put different rotations, and I'm just impressed at Rick Carlisle's ability to lift up every single one of his players to play at this level consistently and not play hero ball until the end. And Tyrese says, oh, y' all need me to be the hero? Okay, here we go. Like, whether I have two points or 12 points, 200 points, I'm going to hit this. I'm going to hit this last shot.
Dan Patrick
Okay? I was yelling at the TV last night. Now, keep in mind, I picked the Pacers to win, but I can't believe the defense that OKC had. There's one guy in the building. I don't care what kind of game he's had prior to that. There's one guy who has been built for this. He's not afraid of this moment. I cannot let Tyrese Halliburton beat me. I can't let him go. Right? I can't. I mean, I. Okay, help me understand this. What did. What did you see there that he did in okc? Did or didn't do one.
Seton O'Connor
They stopped going at him defensively. I think if you rewatch that first half, they put him in actions. And anytime in the NBA, especially in the Finals, you get an action, meaning two people go on the ball, whether that's a show, and get back. OKC does that really well. Indiana, Tyrese was struggling at the beginning of this because I don't think the Knicks went at him. So when they put two on the ball, they were getting downhill two feet in the paint, spraying out, putting him in different screening actions. Nobody. They wanted to keep nice Smith and Nemhard on SGA as much as possible, where that's kind of exhausting to his mind. If you give a guy like Tyrese Halliburton 4, 5, 6 minutes where he doesn't have to necessarily be in an action run, be in rotations, he can settle into the game and start to control It. I thought at the end of the game, OKC was. So they weren't present, right. In basketball, at the end of the game, you need to be present to, like what the game plan is. If they were present, they would have ran over and made him throw it. But give this to Indiana, everybody. They had, what, seven dudes and double figures. So who do you double team? If the guy who's the clutch player, maybe of our generation, which is crazy to say. I know that, Tyrese. I mean, it's crazy to say, but do you double team for a guy who has 23? This guy is 14. This guy is 20 that has 17.
Dan Patrick
I don't care. I'm not letting Halliburton take the shot. I just.
Seton O'Connor
Not totally, totally, but. But in that split second that you have to make a decision, right? Usually you would feel, this guy doesn't want to shoot. That guy's afraid of the moment. Seokimus had big moments. Nice. Smith is at big moments. Miles Turner has made big shots. So, like that. That split second of not going, the shot is already up. And that's what makes them. It is. I've watched a lot of basketball. I don't know how they do it or how they practice that, but coach always says, hey, play 48 minutes. And they literally play 48 full crazy minutes. It's a masterclass.
Dan Patrick
I brought this up at the start of the show. There are certain teams that are so good, and my reference point is UNLV back in the 90s, they blew everybody out.
Seton O'Connor
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
Oh, yeah. And I would. I would keep reminding people, in. In March Madness, you have one game usually where it's going to get tight, and I want to know when it gets tight, how you perform. And we saw that it got tight. They had a bad play. Duke ended up beating them. OKC has been blowing teams out by an average of 13 points. Game got tight, and all of a sudden, Indiana's been playing in these tight games, and you saw the difference. I mean, SGA got the shot that he wanted, didn't go. Siakam had an unbelievable block on sga. But then you give. You gave them a puncher's chance, and that's all they've asked for. Hey, nobody wants to see us, you know, nobody knows us. Well, we're going to hang around a little bit longer there, and I think it's a testament to those players, to that coaching staff of, we're down 15. We're not going to do anything drastic. Although OB Toppin came in, he played terrible, and then he played unbelievable. He keeps. It's like Rick Carlisle keeps spinning the roulette wheel and going, okay, let's try that guy. You know, Nemhard might have a good game, or niece Smith might have a good game, Miles Turner. But, you know, the consistent is Siakam and Halliburton.
Seton O'Connor
Well, I'll say this. I think what Rick Carlisle does, and I say this to my friends, he's the best Jenga player of all time. He's going to keep tapping a brick until it gets soft. And the thing is, the first half, if they hadn't the calmness of him as his leader, to go, guys, we have God knows how many turnovers. They've only scored nine points. Let's take, let's. We can control that. One, two. What's wild is Siakam is the biggest mismatch for okc, I would say, next to, like, Jokic, because Chet can't guard Siakam one on one, right? So now you gotta play a smaller lineup. So now the best team in basketball, second best team, you know, if you're looking at the Cavs, right, for the regular season, is maybe changing their lineup. That's worked all year for one guy.
Dan Patrick
I know.
Seton O'Connor
Hold on now. I know that's crazy, right? And then two, a great coach, whether it's Spoelstra, whether that's Joe Missoula, whether that's Steve Kerr, you know, Ty Lue, whoever. When you're allowed to use your players that don't have egos as chess pieces, Rick Carlisle is just. Every time Dagnaut makes a play, he just, he just says, oh, rook to pawn seven. Like, he just is playing and they run out of moves because he's like, oh, this guy's ego hurts that I took him out where the Pacers go, oh, it's just Rick, you know, like, I'm going back in, no problem. But it's, it's for people who love basketball. Like, you can watch that game again and just see the moves be made and just appreciate the, the. The skill set of everyone on the court.
Dan Patrick
Talking to Channing Fry, Turner sports NBA analyst and co host of Road Trip and Podcast, also won a championship with the CAVS back in 2016. Okay, but with that play, when you guys went, when Kyrie hits the shot. Yeah, is. Is LeBron prepared for Kyrie to take the shot like, he knows, like Jordan did with Steve Kerr and John Paxton? They were going to take the last shot. Was LeBron prepared to not take that last shot that you guys knew if Steph was guarding Kyrie, he was taking the shot.
Seton O'Connor
So if you watch that whole series, Andrew Bogut, and I've said this before, was the biggest thing that happened that series, right? They had to go small. And with that small lineup, Kyrie was. We were. I don't want to say the right word, isn't hunting. But again, we. The only action we got which is not a switch. They were the number one defense in the league. The only non switch where Golden State would put two people on the ball was when Steph was gonna getting ready to guard Kyrie. So we said a. And I don't know if this is true or not, we said, kyrie, he don't want to guard you. So we start pumping him up like, get him like a dog, like, get him. And all of a sudden Kyrie just does what Kyrie does. And so for us, the. The Eagles went out the door. We said, hey, that's the best matchup for us. We have Tristan down there boxing out. We have Kevin down there boxing out. We have Braun down there boxing out. So just in case, I think Richard was in the game or junior boxing out. So that's 6, 9, 6, 9, 6 10, 610 versus their small group with Kyrie shooting the ball. Like, you can't plan that over us over the smallest guy on the court. And Kyrie is. And people are going to be upset. But watching Kyrie, for the years that I was there, my short time, he's the most skilled player I have ever seen, top to bottom, hands down. Regardless, when he shot that we all knew, oh, that's good. Like, it wasn't even a thought of is this going in or not? When he got to his spot and did that little shimmy, we're like, oh, yeah, that's it, that's it. It's just. He's just that ridiculous. But yeah, Braun was like, man, dude, to do that 41 point triple doubles, like three games in a row, like. And people are like, well, you didn't shoot the last time. I know that's because I'm playing with Kyrie, you idiot. Like, and that's the matchup. Like, people just make stuff up, but if you're ready to win, you go with the best matchup. And last night, not to bring this around, Indiana started hunting chat. Chet had a bad game. I don't think he's going to play like that every game. But the minute chat like started to be a little weary. They go, got him. We got something. And they started attacking him. They started going at him and in the Finals, that's a lot. It. It sucks when you start getting hunted, but you're going to have to sit down and move them puppies. Are you going to be. You're going to be over there.
Dan Patrick
What's it like to be hunted during a game? Knowing sucks. Like, who was the guy that you were guarding? And you were like, damn, He. He's hunting me.
Seton O'Connor
We're in the NBA Finals, and they're playing five guards. They were playing Andre Guadala, Draymond Green, Sean Livingston. Steve. Steph Curry. Steve Curry. Steph Curry. That's his brother Steve. Steph Curry and Klay Thompson. And they put Vera Zhao in because, remember, I got traded for Varajao. When they put Varajao in, I came in real quick, and then they took Steve Kerr, immediately took him back out and put Harrison Barnes in, right? So I'm now guarding Harrison Barnes, who's basically a guard. And I'm a center, true center. And my feet are like cement blocks. So they were like, where's Channing? So that's why, like, during the NBA Finals, I was like, man, listen, y' all, we're talking about the best team ever to play, one of the best teams ever to play basketball. And you got slow foot Ogre Channing trying to guard Clay, Steph. Andre Godala, who was a guard with me at Arizona. Stop it. Like, what are we doing? So hunting does not feel good because you're like, I can't move that fast. This is not who I am as a player. And this is just not my time. Easter Conference finals. I could cook. Finals versus Golden State, maybe, you know, hey, I got you here, Brown. The paychecks ain't that big.
Dan Patrick
We've been talking about the hall of Very Good, not the hall of Fame, but those players who were just there outside, you know, they're on the patio. Like Jamal Crawford, hall of Very Good.
Seton O'Connor
Right, Right.
Dan Patrick
Joe Johnson, if you want to put him in there. I don't know if you. You have a nominee for the hall of Very Good, whether it's a player now or maybe somebody you played with or against. Kevin Love. Is Kevin Love a Hall of Very Good or a Holiday?
Seton O'Connor
So let me ask you. This is the Basketball hall of Fame, right? Or the NBA hall of Fame? If it's basketball, he's a. No. No question. So he wins National Player of the Year in high school, wins, I think, two state championships, goes to college, wins there, goes to the NBA for two years as a power forward. A chubby white dude from Portland, Oregon. Is in conversations to be the best. Is he the best power forward in the NBA? Then changes his role, wins a championship in Cleveland, goes to the Finals four times. I know he got hurt, but he still was on the team. Goes to the Finals four times, goes to Miami, goes to the Finals two more times. So, like, to me, how much winning does somebody have to do?
Dan Patrick
So he's a Hall of Fame.
Seton O'Connor
Where they go.
Dan Patrick
He's a Hall.
Seton O'Connor
He's a Hall of Fame.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Seton O'Connor
All right, so a Hall of Good.
Dan Patrick
Who would you nominate? Like Jamal Crawford? Would you say hall of Fairy?
Seton O'Connor
For sure. Jamal, for sure. I think you look at his impact as, like, the culture of basketball. I think you look at his impact on, like, his skill set, the sixth man, the war, like, being maybe the greatest six man. I think if.
Dan Patrick
But is he a Hall of Famer or Hall of Very good?
Seton O'Connor
I think he has to be a Hall very good. My guy. I think he's more my guy. But winning also equates to this, right? If he had won a chip or gone to the NBA Finals, I think that would change my opinion on that. And Mall's my good friend, and so I kind of feel bad saying that. But he is. He is above very good, but he's not a true hall of Fame. Somebody has gone to the finals five times, you know.
Dan Patrick
All right, give me your nominate. Give me somebody that you want to nominate for the hall of Very good.
Seton O'Connor
Honestly, I. I would have to say Amar Stoudemar.
Dan Patrick
That's a good.
Seton O'Connor
I mean, play. And I'm. He was my teammate. I mean, maybe lamarcus Aldrich, like, the. I'm just gonna go through power forwards. Oh, lamarcus Aldrich, I mean, they were. I'm just gonna go through power forwards. Monsters. Monsters at their position. Obviously the league was smaller, but you look at their body of work, you look at how they did it, you look at their impact, you look at their all star nominations. I mean, lamarcus, you look at how many shots or many points he had. He only had three moves. He had a fade away, a hook face up. He was cooking. Trust me, I play him every day. It was cooking in Amari. Cooking.
Dan Patrick
Like, what about his impact? Stephon Marbury, hall of Very.
Seton O'Connor
I. No, I think I. This is crazy. I think Stephon Marbury needs to be in the hall of Fame, the real hall of Fame. Like, I think Stephon Marbury's impact on basketball globally. He's one of the best guards I have ever played.
Dan Patrick
Okay. More talented. Kyrie or Stephon Marbury.
Seton O'Connor
Oh, talented.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Seton O'Connor
Oh, that's a great question. Oh, Steph. I think people forget how good Steph was.
Dan Patrick
I know.
Seton O'Connor
Like, oh, man. I know his sneakers were ho humba and he's gonna get mad. I said, we used to make fun of those sneakers, but. So it was a great idea. I have to go with Kyrie, just because, like, his. But it's not skill, it's talent. Freak. That is a great question. I want to say Steph, because he has more hops. Steph, because athletically, Steph was just. Kyrie is just an absolute crazy man when it comes to basketball. Like, he doesn't. I think people say it. He doesn't know what movie is going to do until you move your foot. So for his ability to move his body as fast as you move your feet without being like, I'm just going to go right. He's like, oh, that foot's up. I'll go left.
Channing Frye
Stop.
Seton O'Connor
Behind the back, stop. Cross. One of the best shooters I've ever seen.
Dan Patrick
Like, how about Sean Marion, hall of. Very good.
Seton O'Connor
These are hard questions because Sean Marion, he. How is he not in the hall of Fame, though? Like, he did win a chip, though, right, In Dallas.
Dan Patrick
And to have a shot that started, you know, at his belly button.
Seton O'Connor
But no, like, the fact that he would shoot. The thing about it is, it wasn't the prettiest, but he always made it when it counted, which made it even worse, right? Yeah, but, like, his impact on basketball, it was like, oh, you're. You're playing good Here, let me shut that water off. Oh, your center's playing good here. Let me go guard him. Your guard's playing good. And, like, his motor, his bounce like that. I think we got to look back at, like, those early 2000 power forwards. That era is actually so much fun to watch. I was thinking about guys like, you know, Chris Kamen and LaMarcus Aldridge and Boozer and Memino Core and, you know, obviously, kg. Kevin, you had David west, you had Chris Bosh, you had. I mean, it was a monster. Tim Duncan, obviously. I mean, who am I? But, like, you know, it was a monster every single night playing those dudes.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, you guys should do a podcast on that. Power forward.
Seton O'Connor
We should, you know, Richard, be talking to us.
Dan Patrick
Great to catch up with you. We always.
Seton O'Connor
I appreciate you guys. Have a good weekend.
Dan Patrick
That's Channing Fry, Turner sports NBA analyst, co host, a Road Trippin podcast. Also, as a wine partnership with a former teammate, Kevin Love. I love when you ask these guys about certain players because Stephon Marbury was an incredible talent. He just, he had a better career in China. You know, the Knicks were a mess back then when he was playing, but he was like, you forget just how great he was. Yes, Marv, he was one of the first one. And done like he is at Georgia Tech for one year, it's like, nope, he's going to the league. Yeah. Seaton. Yeah.
Todd Fritz
I feel like Stefan Marbury in some ways, for some players as great as they are, it isn't always their play that stands in the way, but it's just the timing, you know, and sometimes timing is just wrong. You know, you might be the right player at the wrong time or wrong team. Yeah, wrong team. There's a lot of things that, there's a lot of different factors that go into the success of a player.
Dan Patrick

Seton O'Connor
Did it?
H
Was it found the piece?

Yes. Shock. Because you've had a couple of corny lines and I protected you from doing it on the air. You did it during the commercial break, right?
Channing Frye
Yes, that's true.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Channing Frye
That's very true.
Dan Patrick
Yes.
Todd Fritz
Todd is a little bit like if you've ever gone to a mountain, like where people are skiing and you see somebody flying down the hill towards the bottom of the mountain, but they're a little out of control and you're wondering, are they gonna make it or not? They might have lost a pole, they might have lost their goggles and stuff, but they're still sort of upright right now. Todd is in the process of losing things all over the place. He might make it to the. The end of the mountain, though.
Dan Patrick
Plus, when he tries one of his lines on us and gets. Doesn't get the reaction he's hoping for, he goes then in the back and then he'll bother Mario, who's directing the show.
Channing Frye
And they're busy working and they don't need to be in there practicing bad.
Dan Patrick
And they have complained to me that sometimes they can't do their job because you're back there doing your stand up act.
Channing Frye
Look how good they did with the NFL countdown clock while I was.
Dan Patrick
Imagine if I was actually in there.
Channing Frye
Oh, we wouldn't have gotten until next Tuesday. The clock.
Dan Patrick
Look at the clock. There it is. If you're watching on Peacock, we spent days coming up with that. 90 days, 8 hours, 49 minutes, 44 seconds before the start of the NFL season. Take that, NFL Network. Yes, Paulie.
H
And we check the clock. It's exactly right to kickoff. Okay, Thursday night.
Dan Patrick
Thursday night. The countdown to kickoff.
Channing Frye
Nice to see the equipment suddenly working now, which is good.
Dan Patrick
Let's see Lisa in California. Hi, Lisa.
Paul Pabst
Hey, Dan. So huge Steelers fan and I'm so confident that the Steelers will not win a postseason game again that I would.
Dan Patrick
Take a pie to the face not only for you, but for also the Danets. Does anybody want to bet with Lisa? Lisa says the Steelers will not win a playoff game. Yeah, Marvin, you're in. Oh, no, I'm with Lisa. Unfortunately, Lisa, I think everybody agrees with you. The Steelers won't win a playoff game.
Paul Pabst
All right, thanks, guys.
Dan Patrick
All right.
Channing Frye
So disappointed.
Todd Fritz
I'm like, will Aaron Rodgers cause a coaching change in Pittsburgh this after this season?
Dan Patrick
Well, could it be one and done for both or. Well, one and done with each other there.
Todd Fritz
Will Mike Tomlin be on the hot seat by the end of this season?
Dan Patrick
I. No, I don't know if he's. I don't know if they'd put their coach on the hot seat. Yes, Marv, there's going to be hot seat talk if the Steelers lose to the Jets. The jets are.
Paul Pabst
Sorry.
Dan Patrick
Wait, it starts right away. Yes, to the Jets. Can we find out what's the line on that game? I. I'm guessing they have point spring. I mean, I have the point spread for the. The opener with Kansas City Chiefs. I think. I think that's six. Is that what the point spread is with the Cowboys? I think. All right. Ryan in Nashville. Hi, Ryan. What's on your mind today?
Paul Pabst
Hey, Dan. Good morning.
Dan Patrick
Good morning.
Paul Pabst
A couple things. We know that you always own up to your bets, and we know that every team always has a chance. I'd like to call back to a call I did July 12, 2024, where we made a bet, and I'd love that. Everyone's calling in and giving these grandiose plans about your last show and you're retiring, but we made a bet that if the U.S. men's National Team wins the World cup, you have to stay on air for another year. And I just want a gentle reminder, and before Seaton Poo poo's that we know you say all the time, every team has a chance.
Dan Patrick
You're right. Every team does have a chance. Seaton, do you remember that bet?
Todd Fritz
Not really.
Dan Patrick
Okay. But I'm going to take Ryan at his word.
Todd Fritz
I'd take him at his word as well.
Dan Patrick
Would you take the bet that the US Men's team will not win the World Cup?
Todd Fritz
They will not win the World Cup? Yes, I would take that.
Dan Patrick
You would take that?
Seton O'Connor
I do.
Todd Fritz
I do not believe they will win.
Dan Patrick
The World cup this year. Okay, well, thank you, Ryan. Yes, Mark, but if you put the best athletes. If you put Russell Westbrook. Shut up. Imagine if Iverson and Michael Vick played soccer.
Channing Frye
It's literally the worst thing in sports.
Dan Patrick
Radio every four years. Oh. Could you imagine if Steph Curry was on this hot. Could you imagine if Giannis was playing.
Todd Fritz
Goldkeeper because Messi is actually the greatest, like, physical specimen Argentina has ever produced. He's 5, 4, like 140 pounds or something.
Dan Patrick
That's what's amazing when you see him and you go.
Seton O'Connor
But he.
Dan Patrick
It's. That's the beauty of sports. All shapes and sizes.
Todd Fritz
5, 7. Before Messi fans start going crazy.
Dan Patrick
How big is. How big is Ronaldo? How tall is Ronaldo?
Todd Fritz
He might be like 6 foot 6 one, maybe.
Dan Patrick
Really?
Todd Fritz
Something like that.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I think he's. I think he's a tall drink of water.
Todd Fritz
Yeah, he's hot.
Dan Patrick
Oh, yeah, he is. Got a. He got a fresh haircut. Always.
Todd Fritz
He's never without a fresh haircut.
Dan Patrick
Six, two, maybe Gennaro in Arizona. Hopefully I got that correct.
Seton O'Connor
Yes.
Paul Pabst
Hey, good morning, Dan. Thanks for taking the call.
Dan Patrick
Oh, by the way, thank you for sending in some artwork. He. He sent in. It says Dan Patrick with the different pieces of Arizona license plate, and it's over against the wall. And thank you for sending that in.
Paul Pabst
Well, I just want to wish you a happy birthday and I'm so excited. First of all, five, seven, soft.
Seton O'Connor
189 soft.
Paul Pabst
Thank you, Dan. Listen, I love your show. I've been listening to you guys for forever, and I just want to tell you that you guys make my day, you know, even better.
Dan Patrick
Awesome show.
Paul Pabst
I enjoyed it every single day.
Dan Patrick
Well, thank you, thank you, thank you for the artwork here. I got it on display. So the Cowboys are now getting seven points. I thought it was six. Oh, no, this is week one.
Seton O'Connor
Yes.
H
These are week one NFL lines as of today.
Dan Patrick
Okay, so Cowboys, Eagles, that's seven. The Chiefs, Chargers, that's Chiefs minus three. Let me see what I have with these Steelers. The Steelers are. Oh, Steelers are favorite at the jets by two and a half. Okay, two and a half. Bengals against the Browns. Bengals in Cleveland. Bengals favored by five and a half. You see anything else that I need to bring to the attention for this audience here? The Dolphins. The Colts are one and a half point favorites against the Dolphins. Opening week in Indy. Don't bet against Danny Dimes. Let's see. Packers. Packers are favored by 1 1/2 against the Lions. Buffalo is favored by 1 1/2 against the Ravens. I think Buffalo's favored in every single game this season, at least to start the season. So those are the point spreads that you didn't ask for. Miles in Waco. Hi, Miles. What's on your mind today? Good morning, Dan.
Paul Pabst
Thanks for taking the call. Yeah, so I wanted to extend an olive branch To Seaton there for the hall of. Very good. He said something about timing. Man, I would hate to be Monte Ellis 18 points a game, but he just missed out on the Dubs dynasty by a few years. I just. I think he's probably one of the best guys to never make an all star team.
Dan Patrick
All right. Thank you, Miles. I didn't think I'd get a. Monte Ellis mentioned today on the show.
H
We were due.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. I've been waiting for. It finally came.
Todd Fritz
It's about time.
Dan Patrick
Who is the best player to never make an all star team?
H
Oh, we're going to need a week on that.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
H
I got Monte Ellis. 05 to 2017. He had four seasons where. Three seasons where we averaged 24 or more points.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
H
No All Star.
Dan Patrick
Yes. Marvin. Off the top of my head, I'm gonna say Mike Bibby. Mike Bibby never made an all star team. I don't think he did. No.
Todd Fritz
Mark Crawford. Did he make an all Star?
Dan Patrick
Nope. Okay. Yeah. We'll need a little more time to flush this out. I think a little. Dang. All right. Best player to never make an all star team. Bob in Montana. Hey, Bob, thank you for the whiskey you sent.
Paul Pabst
Oh, I'm glad it arrived there DP and made it all the way across the country here. So enjoy that this weekend either by yourself or with all the Dan that's.
Dan Patrick
Now do it by myself.
Paul Pabst
Oh, there you go. That's the way to go. Well, two quick basketball things here. Hey. Now that the Pacers have won game one and it's basically a foregone conclusion that they're going to win the series, I would be willing to personally fly out to give Marvin that pie to the face.
Dan Patrick
Wow.
Paul Pabst
But there you go. There's a shot fired. And then second, and more importantly, everybody talked about how Luca and Karl Anthony Towns are bad on defense and some other guys. I mean, don't they have, like six months of work on that and they have designated assistant coaches and just a whole bunch of people. Can't they work on that until, like, next season and get better on defense?
Dan Patrick
I don't think Carl Anthony Towns can be a good defender. I don't think so. Not at this point. He's been in the league for 10 years.
Todd Fritz
Yes, but there isn't a way to just, like, sort of to Bob's point. Right. Spend the summer working on just his positioning. Like, hey, if you learn, if you put your body here instead of there, that, like, that's all it is. It isn't even necessarily, like, an effort thing. It's more like an awareness thing maybe, you know.
Dan Patrick
Well, you have to want to play defense, first of all. And I don't know how many guys go, especially if you're a scorer, where you go, I really want to be a little better defender. I mean, does Jalen Brunson say that? I, I mean, I can ding Carl Anthony Towns, but Jalen Brunson, now you can say, well, he's short, but still, there are guys, you know, don't have to be 65 to be a good defender, but you've got, you're stuck with Carl Anthony Towns for three more years. Yes, Marvin, only if the Knicks had a defensive minded coach. Bloop. All right, we'll take a break. Time to go visit the Traeger Grills and those oysters as well. We're back after this. Be sure to catch the live edition of the Dan Patrick show, weekdays at 9am Eastern, 6am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio. In the iHeartRadio app.

All right, this day in Sports history, final results of the poll question. How about who had the best week in sports? Todd, I'll start with you. Your nominee is.
Channing Frye
We've been slamming them all year. So let's give some love to the Colorado Rockies, who just swept the Marlins. I know it was the Marlins and they're getting ready to host the Mets.
Dan Patrick
All right, Rockies. Okay. Paul Seton.
Todd Fritz
Yeah, it's kind of obvious, but Tyrese Halliburton.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, it's just he's.
Todd Fritz
You can watch a legend grow in real time, but. Yeah, you don't get that too often.
Dan Patrick
Marvin, My favorite athlete of all time, Leon Dry Seidl with the game winner in game one.
Seton O'Connor
Dry slido.
Dan Patrick
Paul.
Seton O'Connor
I'll go.
H
Pacers coach Rick Carlisle. I saw a lot of the NBA shows crediting him for the adjustments versus the Knicks. He got the big win and he's got a title, but he kind of doesn't get lumped in with the other great coaches.
Dan Patrick
All right. Yeah, well, he's got an NBA title. Does he have a title as a player with the Celtics as well, Is that right, Marvin? It is. Okay. All right. Ken in Connecticut. Hi, Ken. What's on your mind today? Hey, guys, I love the show.
Paul Pabst
First time, long time. 6 foot a hard 195 hard. I want to give a nomination for.
Dan Patrick
Best player to never make an NBA all star team.
Paul Pabst
The former running mate of Dame Lillard, C.J. mcCollum.
Dan Patrick
Okay. He had some moments. You go back to college. Didn't he have a huge tournament game? He beat Duke. Duke. Yeah. Yeah. C.J. mcCollum. That game got him some help. He got Got him paid. Was that Lehigh? It was, yeah. Jeff in Detroit.
Paul Pabst
What up, dog?
Dan Patrick
Wow. Where is Jeff? Been undercover.
Paul Pabst
I've been paying attention to. I've been kind of in the background paying attention to Fritzy on the plane and everything. You Guys have been sorry you lost the award again, but you know, I was pulling.
Dan Patrick
No, we didn't lose it. Didn't win it, Jeff.
Paul Pabst
Yeah, yeah.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Paul Pabst
That. That's what we'll say. That's what we'll say. I. The job that I have, I actually do some chauffeuring and I had Green Day last year and they actually know about the Dan Patrick show and the situation about the Rock and Roll hall of Fame. A couple of their fans, a couple of your fans reached out to them and told them so. They're well aware of the show. It's funny like that. I wanted to switch it. You were talking about NBA. I wanted to switch real quick. Most underrated player, in your opinion? The top three. Me personally, Bernard King, Scotty Pippen and Tom Chambers. Tom Chambers was the first traffic jammer, as they called them, the great. One of the greatest dunkers ever. And a lot of people don't know about him because I guess basically the era that he played in. What are your top three?
Dan Patrick
Well, I am a big Bernard King fan, but I got to see that in person and you know, sometimes those things stay. They resonate a little bit more. I've said Tom Chambers was a great in traffic dunker. He was a great. He was an athletic big guy and doesn't get enough credit. I think he's got 20,000 points. Yes, Marv. What about maybe not underrated, but a guy that was probably born too early. Dale Ellis. Yeah, Dale Ellis. Like if he played now, he could shoot deep. Great, great shot, beautiful form. Loved it. I don't know if Scotty's underrated. I mean, I guess you're in Mike's shadow. I guess numbers aren't crazy. He was just, he was a. Whatever you need me to do from game to game. When he picked up Mark Jackson full court, you know, in the playoffs and I mean he changed the series. He could guard all one through five. It wasn't a great. He was a slasher, he was a score. He's not a shooter. Didn't have a, you know, he. But he could do everything. And was. Was Mike's equal on defense, if not a better all around defender. Mike on the ball was great, but Scotty was great off on the ball. Help defense. Yeah, Paulie.
H
I think there's as many people that think Scottie Pippen is overrated as underrated, and here's why that's fair. He doesn't seem like a guy who could do it alone, but he almost did.
Dan Patrick
The year after Mike left, they. They should have gone to the NBA Finals.
H
Yeah, him and Kukoc.
Dan Patrick
That was a bad call by Hugh Hollins and cost him with the Knicks where they would have gone to the Finals.
H
Name of names.
Dan Patrick
I know, I know.
H
Take him down. Hugh Hollands on a Friday.
Dan Patrick
Send it in. Big Ben. Take him down, Big Ben. This day in sports history.
H
Paulie, I just got one. 1939 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. The first ever little league game was played. Lundy Lumber. They opened up a can on Lycoming. Dare 23 8. Those kids in like homing Dare no show.
Dan Patrick
Wow. It was on this date in 1969, Joe Namath resigned. He resigned from the NFL. The commissioner, Pete Roselle told him that he had to sell his stake in a New York City bar. They wouldn't let him have ownership or part ownership. What was it? Bachelor's three? Yes, I think was the name of the bar. I don't. It's not around anymore. I don't think so. 1946, the Basketball association of America later became the NBA. It was founded at the Commodore Hotel in New York. And I think the Commodore Hotel might be where the Hyatt is on 42nd Street. 42nd in Lex. The Commodore Hotel. Don't think it's around anymore. Yes, Paul.
H
So if they kept it, we'd be discussing the Baa baa, huh?
Channing Frye
That would have been a bad idea.
Dan Patrick
Okay, I'm going to give you a blue. In final minute of the show. Let me give you a blue.
Todd Fritz
That's generous.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, that it is. It's a walk off. Todd. See you. Oh, no, no, no, no, no. What did you learn today, Todd?
Channing Frye
After getting things worked out with Aaron Rodgers, the Steelers odds to win the Super Bowl, a number of games they will win this season are unchanged.
Dan Patrick
How about that seat? No. Connor, what'd you learn today?
Todd Fritz
Todd managed to keep it together. He made it. Well done, lad.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Seton O'Connor
Thank you.
Dan Patrick
Yes. Sometimes we have to help you help yourself.
Channing Frye
Fair, fair.
Dan Patrick
Marvin, what did you learn today? The number 12 is not retired by the Steelers and probably not going to be anytime soon. Paul, what did you learn today?
H
I learned more about Kumamoto oysters.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, you get a chance. They're awesome. All these well fleet oysters. Pretty tasty today. Todd, what did I learn on today's award nominated program?
Channing Frye
Angela in Oklahoma is very frustrated with her thunder.
Dan Patrick
