If you're going to criticize and be critical and you know Kavino and I have a theory that if you have the ability to be tough on people when things aren't good, you got to give them props when they deserve it. And for all the people that love to be like, yo, baseball was boring or did this, when someone does something right, you got to give them props. And baseball had a big week.

One of baseball's biggest criticism is how they didn't evolve. Yeah, I mean we saw history in the making last night and it was exciting as could be. So love all the changes. Win for baseball. He's just down with everybody, always having a good time. But is he a cheapskate? That's really what we got to get to. Or is he smart?

That's the question. Now Rob Parker, a lot of people know him from espn, Fox Sports. Over the years, he's one of the biggest sports writers. Goes back to, you know, to the 80s with Stephen A. In the early days, Rob Parker was 86, a guy that covered the 86 Mets. And he loves to talk about that. So Rob Parker, we give him props because he's a great dude and he's.

This is how you prepare for a cross country trip from Atlanta to la. Night before you got you go to the grocery store and buy a few reduced price sandwiches, put them in a fridge in my hotel room, overnight bingo. Bingo at the airport. These are $16 each. It's not being cheap, it's being smart. Now these aren't even fresh sandwiches though. So he's traveling with like sandwiches that are reduced in price because they were.

Sitting around, they were boxed at the supermarket, but sat in that like cooler for probably a day or so.

[Bob Crawford]

So he's got gouda sliders, chicken salad. Yeah. For $2 each thing was $2 and 70 cents. So he spent a little over five bucks.

[Rich]

Chicken salad, croissant is the other one. And we were talking about this on the car ride over the iHeart studios here. The chicken salad has mayonnaise in it, correct?

[Covino]

Yeah, I mean this is a questionable choice by Rob Parker. You know, reduced price, old chicken salad. Now you would say, well, they're not gonna sell it if it's old. Listen, I am a man that tries to find a bargain who isn't right. What man or woman is in trying to find a good deal? If I have people over my house for a cookout, a barbecue, my wife's grilling up some stuff on her green egg and I'm doing burger dogs, I will say, if I see reduced meat and I see them doing it while I'm there, I'm like, yeah, sell this. If it says like, sell by tomorrow, I'm like, I'm gonna cook it in an hour. Yeah, I'll, I'll take some skirt steak or cheeseburgers that reduce price. Cause I'm cooking it now. I saw bacon, which is cured meat, and it was like, yeah, they must have had too much of a shipment. I saw bacon for half price. I'm like, I'm gonna make this tomorrow for breakfast. No one's above that. You ever go to the bakery section and you see they just mark down all like the muffins or cakes. I know you love markdown cakes.

[Bob Crawford]

Who doesn't love nice, juicy, glistening cakes?

[Rich]

The brown, the brownies don't give you salmonella though.

[Covino]

Yeah, I don't know your, your thoughts on this.

[Bob Crawford]

He just being a cheapskate or is this the best way to be? We can't say that the we Neils overspend and everybody's broke and then hate on a guy for trying to save a buck.

[Rob Parker]

I'm sorry to interrupt. I was just going to say Kobe. You gotta, you gotta add in his flight pattern.

[Bob Crawford]

Well, again, he spends. We've, we've often behind the scenes tried to figure this out. We'll ask Rob when we see him next. But he's a guy that travels a lot on his own dime, so he's gotta like budget. Everyone budgets and prioritizes differently, right? So maybe he cuts out on these weak ass, cheap ass meals, but he splurges at Magic City and it's like.

[Covino]

You know, everyone chooses where they spend. Like, I always find it funny. Like Kavino or his sneaker will spend, you know, a stupid amount of money on like, like some watch or sneakers. But Covino's the guy that won't download a two dollar app on his phone because you think, oh, I gotta pay for it. I'm not the only guy that's won't resubscribe to Apple TV because it's like five bucks, yet Camino be like, yo, look at these sweet new Jordans I bid on.

[Bob Crawford]

Right? But again, prioritizing Differently. So maybe Rob Parker cuts corners on things like this so that he could afford those new Travis Scott Nikes. Right. So that he can get an extra lap dance so that he can maybe splurge for a drink on his sweet flight from Atlanta to Los Angeles or whatever.

Remember, he takes allegiant. Not allegiant. He takes. I'm sorry, what's the other one?

Spirit. He takes spirit airline flights. And they're the airlines that charge you extra if you breathe too many times on the.

They charge you. I think if you go to the.

Bathroom, they, they literally, they, they charge you for any, for any carry on.

Anything other than your little personal item.

Yeah.

And they charge for water on the.

So. So is Rob's toothbrush in his pocket? Like, what about your bathroom bag? Said on our network before that his thing is he finds the Ross dress for less wherever he flies to. He goes on to the plane with nothing. Nothing. He said he went like this when he told me with his hands. I walk on the plane like this and he's like, I land, I find my Ross dress for less. I get a bargain outfit and I don't even care if I don't take it back home or not.

[Bob Crawford]

So what does he roll back with his boxer shorts? That's insane.

[Covino]

So let me ask you this. What is it that you. Let's talk to our Dan Patrick friends. We appreciate you hanging with Covino and Rich. It could be sports related, it could be travel related, family related.

What is your weird thing like, what are you willing to spend on? But then on the flip of it, you're like, no, no, no, I will not spend for that at all. And because we all have those things that you're willing to spend.

I mean, you pulled the Rob Parker trick here at the movie theater, don't you?

[Covino]

I was just gon. Like, if you go to a stadium, let's say you go into the Yankees game, right? You're going to Dodger Stadium. Danny G. If you bring your kid, you're not going to pack sandwiches and juice boxes.

[Rich]

Oh, definitely going to do that.

[Bob Crawford]

So isn't that essentially kind of what he's doing but on a plane ride? So again, if you just joined us, Rob Parker of the Odd Couple here on Fox Sports Radio posted this. You can see it at. Rob Parker, MLB bro, on social media. He's got a reduced price gouda sandwich. What are these gouda sliders for? $2.70 to reduce prices because they're old.

[Rich]

So that's the. That's where this is different. Rich than us. Like making a sandwich at home for.

[Bob Crawford]

Our little kid and a reduced price. Chicken salad, croissant for 270. So instead of paying 16 bucks at the airport, he says, look, five bucks for the ride home. That's how you do it. I'm not cheap. I'm smart.

[Covino]

You know what? They're not going to sell it, are they? If it's bad, I mean, they probably just got to get rid of it. I mean, like, listen, like I said, there have been times where I have people quite a bit for barbecues. If I go to the supermarket and I see, you know, clearly, sometimes supermarkets over order. Right. You've seen this, right? Sometimes they don't have something. Other times they're like, why. Why would hot dogs be $3 instead of 6? Because they must have a lot in of inventory. Okay, but take advantage of that.

[Rich]

Say he's got a long Uber ride from his Atlanta hotel to the airport.

[Covino]

Chicken sandwich.

[Rich]

And he's. And then the airport's hot inside at the terminal.

[Covino]

Hot chicken salad.

[Rich]

Yeah. Are you. So maybe they sell it and it's not bad yet, but by the time he arrives to his gate, it might be bad.

[Bob Crawford]

Yeah. That sandwich is sitting around his bag that whole time. That's also kind of odd. I agree with that. You know, maybe younger generations could take a page out of the Rob Parker book, because you sometimes need to be a baller on a budget to be able to do the things you want to do and not feel guilty about it.

[Covino]

All right, I'll give you one. And we all have them. What are you willing to spend money on and what are you a cheapskate on? I'll give you this. I'm more than willing to overspend and buy Starbucks or cocktails at a bar without even thinking about it. You go to Vegas, you go to an event. $20 old fashions or vodka sodas or 15 bucks, you go to Starbucks. Six, seven dollars for a coffee. I don't even think about it twice. But if I'm looking to buy just like a basic T shirt, I'm going to Target and getting like a good fellow, eight to $10 t shirt. If I see a designer.

[Bob Crawford]

This one I'm wearing now. Yeah, it's Banana Republic, Costco. I got it at Costco. Why would you overspend on T shirts?

[Covino]

But it's.

But I like plain T shirts.

[Covino]

But I'll back Kavino up. He dresses well. But I can never. Sometimes you go to a department store and you're like to designer t shirt for 80 bucks. I'm like, I could never do that.

$200 plain John Varvatos T shirt. What's the point?

[Rich]

That's cause you could dress up a generic T shirt with the rest of your wardrobe.

[Bob Crawford]

That is where I cut the biggest corner. You know, you try to look good. You want to look good, right? But who wants to overspend on a regular designer plain T shirt? You can get that at Old Navy.

[Covino]

I'll give you one. I think it's a lot of times you're disgusted on it not being something you're excited about. It's just more functional. Like to me, I'm taking my kids to their first Mets game at Citi Field on Friday. I went all out and we were like sitting right behind the Mets dugout. Ticket price doesn't bother me. You know what does though? Parking at the stadium and rental car. That drives me bonkers. The fact that hundreds of dollars to rent a car and park will eat at me. But the few hundred dollars a ticket, I'm like, yeah, I get it. It's, you know, I. We're all different in these ways. But it was just funny.

[Bob Crawford]

We'd bring it up real quick just finding the balance.

[Covino]

Yeah. Our buddy Rob Parker. We'll let a chicken salad sandwich for two bucks. D. I don't know if that's where you spend your and save your money.

We work with the guy. So we're not going to say you cheapskate. I mean we might, we're going to, we're going to let you say it on his social media page at Rob Park, I believe.

Yeah. But if you read the comments, he's getting destroyed right now.

But think about it. Everyone's got their thing, you know. You definitely know guy that's buying a thousand dollar golf club. But he like, he, he won't buy sneaker. He buys like generic sneakers. But he has every golf club, he has a thousand dollars. So you see it all the time. Any examples? Hey, we'll chop it up at Covino and Rich. Now coming up, we have midweek major spots. We didn't know we were doing that. So my wife is flying from Los Angeles with the kids. We're having a fun week, fun long weekend in New York. We're back next week. I arrive at the airport two hours before my family. Their flight got a little delayed. Do I have to hang out the airport and wait for them? Or do I just. Or do I just.

You have two rugrats. If your wife was rolling solo, I could be hopping an Uber. She's a grown woman.

Maybe at the hotel, but because she got the two kids with her and.

All the bags and everything.

So I go off and I buy plastic forks, and I wash them, and I get kind of irritated when my daughters throw them in the trash. But I'll go, oh, you know, you're.

Talking to Rich Davis, who steals them from Chipotle. Like, this is John stealing. He has bags of pantry. Yeah, he's a trash bag. Rich is a trash bag. You know what? Can we rename the title of this discussion? Rich is a trash bag. He steals.

But you know, our last caller did make me think of something else too, though. Not only that Rich Davis is trash because he does that all the time, but he's trash. If you work in a certain industry, right? Like we work in music and sports broadcasting, it's tough for me to shell out on certain ticket prices because I know how easy, well it used to be to get your hands on some when you work in the business, right? So sometimes you're always looking for that deal on those tickets. Like sometimes I refuse to pay that much money for a concert ticket. I'm like, man, God bless the people that do. I can't do it.

[Covino]

No matter how successful people become, I can never understand people. I get when you get upgraded and points and miles and all that. But people that willingly buy first class tickets or only stay at like the top hotels, like to me perks, bro. Sometimes, sometimes a hotel is a hotel.

[Rob Parker]

If I'm just with you on a quick trip.

[Rich]

No, you're sounding like Ben Maller. Okay? You guys gave Rob, okay? Ben Maller from Fox Sports Radio is famous for spending nothing on hotels. And when I ask him about bedbugs, he's like, ah, that. No, there's not, there's not bedbugs. Problems everywhere. And I'm like, that's what you think, bro. I don't want to I don't want to go on a, like a guy's trip with him because he won't chip in for a nice hotel stays in.

And the reason we're here is because we were given Rob Parker the business. Hey, guys, how you doing? I got a great one for you. You're gonna love me for this. So I hate fine furniture and vacuums and stuff like that. I live in Summerlin here in Las Vegas in these scenarios. So people tend to throw away things that are pretty new on the regular. So what I'll do is on overhaul day, I'll drive around the neighborhood and I'll find stuff maybe people threw away the use a couple times that might have broke. And I'll scan the QR code and make a warranty claim on it and get a brand new one mailed to me free.

Oh, you're a cheap stuff. You know what? I had one that I recently changed my mind because we could all evolve, right? We could all evolve.

I used to be the guy. I was the king of the cheap $10 gas station phone charger. And then I'm like, you know what I mean? Or like the cheap ass phone case. The last upgrade I got on my phone like a year ago, I was like, all right, let me get a big boy charger at the Apple store and a nice case with the magnet and everything. And you know what? It made me realize how much I wasted on just continuously buying these crappy $10 chargers. Like, buy the power charger. Buy a nice phone case with the magnet on the back. It might cost you triple the amount, but it'll last you. So there's things we're all cheap on. I agree. It's. It sucks.

But Pete Alonso has a suggestion for MLB that might amphis things up even more than they already are. So during this week's festivities, he was asked one rule he'd change given his opportunity in mlb, and without hesitation. He said that pitchers and hitters should be able to fight each other like they do in the nf. NHL say that hitters shouldn't be ejected for charging the mound or fighting. He said it should be hockey style. So no teams, no nothing. Because that's when people can get hurt. If you want to go out and charge the mound, you should be able to. But you have the option to take a knee. If you don't want to fight, you could just stop, set out. But if you chart someone charges, charges them out. It's one versus one hockey style. So if polar bear Pete could take over, that's what he would do. Midweek or major?

And I'll tell you why. Because he's the polar bear. He would whoop everyone's ass. People would think twice about throwing Pete high and tight. Pete Alonso also is. I'm a Mets fan. But yeah, take matters into your own hands. The one weird thing is taking a knee because man, who's gonna do that? You're gonna get criticized for the rest.

Of you look, I look like a wuss unless you're Ohtani and you do it in like an honorable way. But I like is he such a friendly guy?

One on one sort of match. I'm the type of guy that'll watch any fight. I'm excited about Pacquiao this weekend. So you're the guy. Sign me up for this. Over to the WNBA 2 story. So the athletic known for its anonymous player polls across multiple leagues, well, they've finally conducted their anonymous player poll the WNBA and asked the biggest question on everyone's mind and that's who do they think the face of the league will be within the next five years? And a whopping 53.8% of players answered who you might expect. No, not three time sportswoman of the year Angel Reese. It's actually yeah, Fever Zone Caitlin Clark. Behind her was USC star JuJu Watkins with 17.9% and Wings rookie Paige Beckers with 14.1%. Some of the anonymous comments about Clark include quote, she's clearly already a draw but she's. And she still has room to improve as a player with another one saying that she is quote currently the face of the league already. So despite not being the best player, evident that she's moving the needle with things so midweek or major.

[Covino]

I mean sort of mid. That's so middle because we knew this already. But I'm wondering the other. The 46.2% of players that didn't vote for Caitlin Clark, like what are they watching? What numbers are they looking at? It's clear that when Caitlin Clark doesn't play or when Caitlin Clark is injured or something happens. They've moved games Camino to bigger arenas because of Caitlin Clark for Her not to be the answer. You're just tone deaf ing your own sport.

[Bob Crawford]

I think it's major because again, Rich said it, 46.2% of the league is still hating on her. Still hating.

[Covino]

Still don't acknowledge the reality.

[Bob Crawford]

Give me a break. But maybe there is a point I'll give. I'll throw the button there, the big thumper in there, because, I mean, she just got hurt again. Yeah, we don't know what the future looks like. I mean, is it going to be a health issue moving forward? Now, the other players don't know.

The other players mentioned Juju Watkins and Paige Beckers. They're great young athletes. But if you're asking who the face of the league is, like, that's not even like a question. It would be like saying that you don't believe Ohtani and Judge are like the faces of baseball. Come on, get with it. As my dad would say, get with it.

All right, so Shaq also getting some headlines along the lines of WNBA stepping up to defend Caitlin Clark's rival Angel Reed by sending a very stern warning to RG3. So during an appearance on the off the Record podcast, Shaq went on a rant about RG3 reposting a racist meme of Reese on his X page. Shaq took off his glasses, stared into the camera, and said directly at RD3, if you post another meme like that, he's going to, quote, punch you in your effing face. Okay, it's enough. He acknowledged he usually doesn't do stuff like that, but to leave Angel Reese alone. He said he even advised Reese against even responding or commenting about RG3's post. RG3 yet to respond to any of this, but we'll see how it grows. Midweek or major.

I mean, I, I think it's major because Shaq said he was gonna punch RG3 in the face. But RG3, RG3 and Shaq just, why not have it like, you know, celebrity pre card to the next Jake Paul fight?

I mean, to be on Shaq's bad side is weird because I feel like Shaq's such a lovable guy. So RG3, good luck with that.

Don't double cross me. It's a little misleading to the story because it's not like RG3 posted the race. He reposted it and sort of defended Angel Reese in A backwards way and then made it about him. And, you know, it was kind of taken out of context. It was a really weird sort of post by RG3. But I love the fact that Shaq is saying he'll punch him in the nose because I love drama and I love fights. I already said that.

Terrence Mann bring said, maybe it's the Stanford girl in me, but grammar is very important to me, and if I see something with bad grammar or someone misspells something, it really irks me. I think it's mid. Because we all have, quote, we just don't call them icks. Like, there's a trend now where younger women are like, I'm not going to shave my legs and armpits. That's my ick. That's disgusting.

A couple years ago Bob Odenkirk showed up out of nowhere as an action star and nobody I saw this movie in the theaters and I was completely caught off guard but pleasantly surprised by Bob Odenkirk's performance in the first Nobody. Because it's if he had discipline, he could have been like Baker Mayfield you don't think like the same sort of scrappy makeup if he wasn't his own worst enemy, tripping on his own cleats and getting in his own way? I think so. If he had a certain level of discipline, he could have had a solid career. I truly believe that.

See, the biggest what if of NFL.

QBs, he's one of them. He's one of them.

There's a lot of big what ifs. Our pal Joe Bimel, former baseball pitcher, played around the league on a bunch of teams for over a decade. I saw him recently put out a video. You know, younger people asking Joe, he does a baseball clinic. Bimole athletics. I saw him saying, kids ask, what does it take to make it to the bigs? And he's like, of course, talent, discipline, talent and genetics is such a big part of it. But you gotta want to put the work in. And when you think you're putting enough work in, you're not putting enough work in. Like, you got to put the work in and be so disciplined.

Discipline is doing what you hate, but, like, you love it and just want.

[Covino]

It more than the next guy, right? He said, there's been guys with way more talent than him that didn't even make the bigs because they didn't have what it took. And I saw my. My boy Francisco Lindor, interviewed at the All Star Game, and someone asked him about what keeps you motivated, and he's like, I'll be honest, I don't. I don't think in terms of motivation, because motivation comes and goes. I'm disciplined. Because you could be motivated one day, have an off day, a bad day, a great day. Good.

But Lindor's mindset, you know, leads to preparedness, consistency, and consistency. Yeah, he's absolutely right. It's a. Interesting answer, but he's right, Lindor. Motivation comes and goes. It goes through phases. Sometimes you have it, sometimes you don't. Sometimes you don't want to get out of bed. But as Mike Tyson said, that's when discipline kicks in. Sometimes I don't want to get out of bed.

Yeah. Do you think Floyd Mayweather, as much as you may love or hate that guy, you think Mayweather wanted to train every morning at 5am running the streets for miles and miles and miles and no, it's the discipline.

[Bob Crawford]

But Johnny Manziel is definitely one of the top answers when it comes to the what ifs. What if he had the discipline? What if he was able to continue his career? You know, I think Len Bias is another top answer. That always comes up.

And that might be the number one answer.

Derrick Rose. Because the what ifs are there for him. Even though he had a great career. It's like, man, what if he didn't get injured, right. Because he was coming on strong?

But. But what if Len Bias and not passed away? Probably does the whole dynamic of the NBA change for a decade? Plus, that might be the number one answer. All right, we'll see you guys when we're back.
