You are listening to the Dan Patrick show on Fox Sports Radio Final hour on this Thursday. Dan and the Dan It's Dan Patrick Show. You got the Minister of humor, the Minister of Music. You also have Marv, you have Paulie, yours truly in the back room. Guys, we'll talk to Dan Hurley on loan from Connecticut coming up here momentarily. Keeping an Eye on the leaderboard. Scores are low right now. Well, I should say even one under two wonder at the most. It feels like weather is going to be great right now. Doesn't look like any wind, no rain, and it's course we'll dry out a little bit. And I was listening to Golf Channel last night. Randall Shamblee, Rich Lerner and company. They were talking about the conditions there. Would we get the double digits? Would the winning score be at least 10 under par? And it wasn't a consensus one way or another, but they have a way of easing up maybe some of the conditions. Paulie, do you have the leaderboard there?
Webull Advertiser
Yeah. Patrick Reed, three under after only four holes.
Marvin (Marv)
Hot start for him.
Webull Advertiser
And Tommy Fleetwood.
Marvin (Marv)
Okay, three under as well.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I had Patrick Reed in my draft yesterday. Go. Former Masters championship, by the way, watching the par three yesterday. Tommy Fleetwood, son Frankie. And I don't know how old he is, but he's never been able to get the ball over the pond on the ninth hole. So there was a big build up to it. And he had a driver. You know, he's just adorable kid. And they gave him a couple tries. He didn't make it. But Shane Lowry's daughter, she was trying to make it. You know, you have all these kids, you know, some are playing in the, in the, in the sand, like it's a sandbox. You got them rolling down the hill there. I mean, you know, it's basically chaos, but it's in a, a great setting. The par three is a wonderful event. It's become must see TV. All right. 8, 7, 7, 3 DP show email address DP danpatrick.com Twitter handle @dpshow Good morning, those watching on Peacock, thank you. Downloading the app. The NBC Sports Network as well. This is the day before the day, Seaton's last day tomorrow. He's got the menu for Meat Friday as well. Are you going to have a farewell song that you want played? Like, is there anything that I should be prepping for for Friday? Aside from being emotional?
Marvin (Marv)
I do have the final walk off song ready to go. Marvin's got that sort of in the hopper.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Marvin (Marv)
The Meat Friday menu is ready to go. Very excited about that.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Marvin (Marv)
Be a massive day.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Marvin (Marv)
I've been sort of sitting here thinking about maybe what my final thoughts will be on the air if we do something like that. I'm not, not exactly sure how that's going to go, but just kind of, you know, as we always do, man, play it by the seat of our Pants.
Dan Patrick
And scripted.
Marvin (Marv)
Yeah, and scripted by the seat of our pants.
Dan Patrick
He is Dan Hurley, Connecticut basketball coach and joining us on the program. How's morale today?
Dan Hurley
Feel? Pretty good. That you recover. Start to recover a little bit more physically, emotionally with, with every day that. That passes, you know, you get a little more strength back. You know, you start to get the. The life starts getting back in your body. It's a long season. And then when you play, when you, you know, when you're on those last buses on Monday night, you know, you're playing a long season. I mean, you know, like, you're, you're. There are a lot of colleges, seasons are over. When we were playing the Big east tournament, you know, so that was. It feels like a year ago.
Dan Patrick
The high high of winning and the low low of losing. Can you compare those two?
Dan Hurley
Yeah, you know, I don't. Maybe I didn't feel it. The low low of losing. I think I've, you know, sometimes, like, being proud of, of the group and how hard they fought to. To give you the maximum with the group, sometimes that, that, that has kind of been a little bit of an override on the disappointment of missing out on the confetti, the trophy, being the champions, you know, so, like, proud is kind of overriding disappointment. And sad maybe. And maybe that's because we have a couple chips. But, you know, proud more than sad.
Dan Patrick
When did you realize you were in trouble?
Caller
What?
Dan Hurley
Different things I did during the year in the game.
Dan Patrick
No, no, no, no. You're always in trouble. I'm talking about when I was eight years old.
Dan Hurley
When I was eight years old at olm, Our lady of Mercy, when Sister, Sister Mary caught me.
Dan Patrick
No, wait, what did she catch you doing?
Dan Hurley
Probably, you know, copying homework five minutes before class.
Dan Patrick
Okay. All right. That's not that bad.
Dan Hurley
No, not bad. Not bad. I would say in that game, though, when you, when the game first starts and you see, you know, literally the, the massive challenge in terms of their size and, and athleticism and physicality. You know, I think we start the game nine, nine, four down, and you're like, whoa, it's going to be really hard to score and we better be ready to fight.
Dan Patrick
But you got 22 offensive rebounds, which, which is kind of crazy. If I would have said that before the game, you're going to get 22 offensive rebounds. You'd probably lean towards. We're winning this game.
Dan Hurley
Yeah, I would say a lot of the numbers, the, the, you know, the rebounding, obviously, we've been a great defensive team the entire year especially guarding the three point line. If you would have said to me 22 offensive rebounds, obviously the, you know, the defensive effort, keeping them to what we, we held an excellent team. And then when you look at probably the shots that we started to get, you know, as they started to get fatigued in the second half, you know, we had a lot of opportunities, obviously make a lot of the, you know, the fast break basket to cut it, to cut it to four with two minutes to go would have obviously put enormous game pressure.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I thought that that was probably the key to the game. And then after the game you said just nice things, verbal bouquets about the referees.
Dan Hurley
Yeah, listen, when you get, you know, when you get to that, that you get to play tournament, you know, you get the officials, you get, you get the best of the best and you know, the officials that you get as the tournament goes on or the best officials keep advancing, you know, you go back and watch the film and you know, there's obviously things that I got wrong as a coach. The shots that the players missed and then, you know, you see plays that went on during the game that, you know that, that the officials missed. It's not, it's not a perfect situation. Obviously the, you know, the hook and hold on caravan was, was, was a big play and then obviously that, you know, they missed a couple of, you know, they probably missed a couple, two of, of you know, of calls, shoves in the back or what have you. But, you know, Michigan was the best team in the country the whole year and, and they deserved it. Dusty did an awesome job. They're an all time, one of the best teams in recent memory for me.
Dan Patrick
When do you find out if Mullins is coming back?
Dan Hurley
Well, I mean, the line is starting to form. It's the supermarket, it's the deli section. I don't know what.
Dan Patrick
Take a number.
Marvin (Marv)
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Dan Hurley
Yeah. It's such a, you know, I think for, for teams like us and the teams that played in the Final Four national championship game, it's like it hits you like an avalanche because we literally, you know, your season really just ended, you know, just like literally two days ago. And now you've got to make all these decisions. You've got to help your players make monumental decisions. I would just say now in college, I would, I would say that unless it absolutely makes total sense for you to go in the draft, you know, unless you know you're going to be a lottery pick or guaranteed to go top 15, top 18, the biggest mistake that you can make right now As a college basketball player is going to the draft too early and not staying long enough in college because of the, obviously the money situation.
Dan Patrick
What's your advice going to be? Or has. Has it already been for Mullins to stay or go?
Dan Hurley
I think with what, what I'll tell, what I'll tell Braylon and I'll tell his family is number one. Do you, do you like college? You know, do you, do you like college? I mean, some players are in a, are in a rush to get to the NBA because they don't like being a college student. They don't like being in a college program. So I think that's like the. Because college programs are run way differently than NBA teams in terms of how we practice and, you know, just. And how kind of rigorous study hall and going to class and then, you know, the coach being in charge of the whole operation. So, yeah, I mean, it's, you know, do you like college? And I think that, that the world has changed. There's not this, you know, this pressure to, to go to the NBA now because of the, because of the money situation. He, you know, players like Braylon are probably, he probably make more money at UConn next year than he would if he was the 15th pick. So, you know, those are the things that you have to weigh. How badly do I want to get out of college and get to the NBA?
Dan Patrick
Are you scheduled to face Luke Murray and BC next year?
Dan Hurley
No, I'm going to put the, the, the. The. The family. He's like a brother to me, Luke. I mean, and I couldn't imagine Bill Murray not wearing my team's hat or rooting against me now. So he's like a brother. So I, I'll never schedule Luke the
Dan Patrick
transfer portal and recruiting out of high school. Like, I don't know if you've ever had a top 10 recruiting year. 11th is your best. But it kind of feels like you have a formula of what you're trying to do. Maybe you take a big swing and you get Braylon Mullins, but then you're also going to be filling in the pieces here. We saw that with Illinois, we saw that with Michigan. Is, is this, is this the future of college basketball?
Dan Hurley
Yeah, Dan, I think we're at a crossroads. You know, I think we've got to decide, you know, what, what is, you know, who do we want to be, you know, do we want to try to hold the line and just go retention, high school recruiting, and maybe, you know, cherry pick a need in the portal, you know, or is this now, are we at a point where it's like, wipe the board every year and try to put together the most talented team that you can? I mean, we have our first national champion that was comprised of all portals or all transfers in Michigan, obviously a stud in McKinney off the bench as a high school recruit. But right now we're, we're processing the best, you know, the best way for us to move forward. Because you got players on your team that are obviously right now weighing, you know, what, what they want to do. But also from a, from a program standpoint, you also have all these players that have entered the portal, you know, who are also reaching out for UConn that would like to potentially play here, too. So, you know, our players have decisions to make about what they want to do in the future, but, you know, we also, as a staff, have got to decide quickly.
Dan Patrick
Is coaching the least stressful part of this job now?
Dan Hurley
Yeah, I mean, this is terrible right now, what's going on. I mean, we, I think we all have to get to a point and it's not, it's not terrible, you know, in a sense of nil. I think the nil for the players is awesome. Our players made a lot of money this year and their commitment level was to the max. So the money didn't make them lazy or hard to coach. They were awesome the whole year. But just, you know, like, I think as college programs right now, you literally have to have a front office that takes over at this point of the year. You know, like to take a coaching staff that now did the six month season and now you've got to flip and now run recruiting visits, put the roster together, talk to the age. I mean, it's, it's, it's, it's a lot. I think college programs are. They got, we got to start being run like an NBA organization or a pro sports organization.
Dan Patrick
Do you have a player who has a nicer car than you?
Dan Hurley
Yeah, I mean, I, that was, I think, I think it was early this year. I started to see the teslas and the BMWs. And I'm a Ford guy, you know, I'm a Ford guy. I got my Ford Raptor truck. So I'm built tough.
Dan Patrick
Of course you are. But it used to be in the old days players would have BMWs in nice cars. It just was not above Ford cash.
Dan Hurley
Now it's leases. Now they're getting, now they're getting leases, which is, you know, hey, listen, it's great the type of guys that we get at UConn again, it's like, for me, it's the transfer rule. If my sons, as college or high school kids, said to me, hey, Dad, I want to transfer after my freshman year of college, I would say, tell me why, and I want to hear your reasons, and then I'll support you if the reasons make sense. But then at the end of their sophomore year, if they said, I want to transfer again, and then I want to transfer again, at some point, I would, as a parent, I would be concerned.
Dan Patrick
All right, well, you got time off now.
Dan Hurley
Don't you know that line? It's. It's even gotten bigger since I looked last.
Dan Patrick
Do you know how many players right now you'll have on your team next year?
Dan Hurley
No, I don't. I. I know. I. Maybe five, four or five out of 15, maybe, you know, with. Between turning pro, you know, players, you know, having the role they want here, you know, should I test the draft process? Yeah. Obviously, this tampering that's been going on. I mean, there's tampering that goes on the entire. The entire year. So, you know, now, even players that aren't in the portal, I mean, everyone's. I mean, everyone's in the portal.
Dan Patrick
But. But, Danny, why do we allow schools to tamper with coaches?
Dan Hurley
Why do we. What. What's that?
Dan Patrick
Why do we allow a school, you know, North Carolina, if they're interested in Ben golden or they're interested in, you know, Tommy Lloyd, like, why are they allowed to do that? They're under contract.
Dan Hurley
Yeah. I mean, you shouldn't. You know, you should.
Dan Patrick
North Carolina didn't reach out to you, did they?
Dan Hurley
No.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Dan Hurley
No. And when I was coaching at Rhode island, it was really important for me that. And I knew my last year that there was going to be interest from Pittsburgh and UConn. And you, obviously, you have agents that are, you know, because these schools, they want. They want to know, like, they want to know. They want to know what your interest level is while you're in that other job. They don't want to wait till your season's over. But I think what was unique for me when I was coaching Rhode island was, you know, I refused to talk to any of those schools or to even have the intermediary, you know, conversations until Duke beat my butt at the end of my last game after we beat Oklahoma in the tournament at roadie. So, Yeah, I mean, I don't know how you could do that as a coach and then come in and look at your team and then be upset with the players and. Yeah, I mean, I think that as, as adults and as coaches, you got to have, you have to have some honor with the way that you move and the decisions that you make with your career.
Dan Patrick
Hopefully you enjoy the off season. Thanks for joining us. Thanks for sharing as always.
Dan Hurley
Always a pleasure, Dan.

shop now@brooksrunning.com Dan Hurley seemed okay with the loss in the national title game. I think he got bummed out when we were talking about the transfer portal. It's like that was bumming him out. And he's got some decisions to make. And some of his players, especially Braylon Mullins, who I've seen two mock drafts, one at the end of the first round, one maybe around 15 or 16 for him, but I get the feeling he's probably going to go pro. Yeah, Seaton.
Marvin (Marv)
Yeah. He said something like, yeah. Life is slowly re entering my body.
Dan Patrick
Yes. Yeah.
Marvin (Marv)
That dude is funny, man.
Dan Patrick
He is. Because when I say when did you realize you were in trouble? And he's like as an 8 year old with Sister Mary a little more Stephen in Hollywood. Hi, Stephen. What's on your mind?
Caller
Hey guys. First time, long time. 611 95. I've been watching the show since the audience network days. I love the show. I love Seaton. You're Awesome. You taught me to hate the word curated. Anytime I hear it now, I think of you, and I'm just as annoyed as you are with that word. Fully, fully, fully curated. But also, I'm letting you know, if you watch the show on Peacock with closed captioning turned on, at least this is how it is. I'm on my Roku tv. It respells Satan to Satan. I. I emailed you a screenshot, so. So, yeah, I just want to let you guys know, I don't know if that has anything to do with Seaton leaving the show. Maybe this is more like an exorcism. But either way, seeing. Thanks. Thanks for the memories and good luck. The new gig. And. And hail Seaton.
Dan Patrick
All right. Thank you, Stephen.
Marvin (Marv)
That's great.
Dan Patrick
I think with closed caption, don't they take the word that is as closely assimilated? Assimilated to your name or the pronunciation of your name?
Marvin (Marv)
Yeah, that's exactly right.
Webull Advertiser
Like, the name Seaton wouldn't be in
Marvin (Marv)
their lexicon, so they would go with
Dan Patrick
the closest thing, and it's Satan, not a judgment.
Marvin (Marv)
That's great.
Dan Patrick
That made me very happy. Well, it could have been Semen. Like, my mom called you, Correct? Correct. No idea. She would be like, how's semen? I go, his name is Seaton, Mom.
Marvin (Marv)
It's still one of my favorite things. We had, like, this. We're in the New York studio at the time, and there was a huge executive from a major truck brand in, and we were all celebrating, like, this sort of partnership. And, like, the dude is a big deal. He just took over the whole company. And he came in to do this, and we're talking about these things or whatever. There's all these salespeople around. It's like, oh, that's whatever. And you know that it had bled into our lives so much that you had said to me, hey, Seaman, can
Dan Patrick
we do this thing?
Marvin (Marv)
And I just answered without even thinking twice about it. And you could just see the people from this, I mean, massive truck company. Like, did he just call him Seaman?
Dan Patrick
But nobody calls anybody by their real name with the backroom guys. So Marvin is Melvin or Mark. And then. And I found myself calling him. I say, hey, Melvin, like I said. And I realized, you know, his name is Marvin, but I called him Melvin before Eric, the big German. Everybody calls him Derek. So it feels like everybody has a different name. If you come in and you go, oh, I thought your name was Melvin. No, it's Marvin. Wait, your boss doesn't even know your Name? I do, but this is what everybody. When. When we're not on the show, they call each other. Yes, Melvin.
Amazon Advertiser / Intern
I just had to. I just had to tell one of our interns. Everyone. No one calls me Marvin unless we're on the show.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Dan Hurley
So don't be alarmed.
Amazon Advertiser / Intern
He's like, isn't it. Is your name Marvin?
Dan Patrick
Yeah, it can be Dave in South Dakota. Good morning, Dave. What's on your mind today?
Caller
Hey, good morning, fellows. Morning, Dan. Say, you know, I wanted to say quick goodbye and good luck to Seaton here yesterday. I thought, though, there was a moment that was kind of telling Dan you were talking about Seaton and his decision coming up here to do something different. You said you keep trying to convince yourself that it's going to be a good thing, and I'm sure you already know the scene, but I just thought that was a real, for lack of a better word, touching moment because it sort of showed how much he's meant to everyone. And, you know, there you have the notorious GDP pausing and saying he had to convince himself that it was going to be a good thing for everybody to let you go. So I just wanted to bring that. Bring that up and say that it looked like it meant a lot to you, Dan, and I'm sure it did. Everybody else, if it's okay. One more quick thing. I just wanted. While I'm on a positive note, I want to say something positive about Fritzi. Oh, Peacock showed a clip earlier. Brandle Chamblee hitting. I think it was a three wood. And Seaton coming up after that. And they were sort of seeing who might be able to hit it longer. When they were done, there was Fritzi holding Shambly's sport coat for him as he was going to put it back on. And I just thought that was a very thoughtful and polite thing to do.
Dan Patrick
Okay, well, thank you, Dave. Yeah.
Amazon Advertiser / Intern
That might have been one of those
Dan Hurley
minimal kindness moments where he just gave me the jackets out here. Hold it. I'm like, I guess I don't hold.
Dan Patrick
You didn't volunteer.
Dan Hurley
Why don't I hold your jacket while you're playing?
Dan Patrick
Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know, there. There's a lot of different emotions attached to this because I have to do what's best for the show, but I also have to do best. What. What's best for Seaton, because I did promise the Danets that if you got a better opportunity, I wanted you to take that opportunity no matter what it was, if it was a better opportunity for you and your family. So you kind of have this dichotomy, this tug of war of, yeah, but I. I gotta replace Seaton on the show. And. And, you know, Dylan is a younger person and he's inexperienced, but we really like him, and he's fun. But Seaton's, you know, got 25 years of radio experience, and you can't replace that right away. So. But if I live up to what I said, and that is what is best for him, and this is what's best for him, and that's why I said I got to convince myself that it's going to be best for all of us. I'm more. I'm more sure of it's best for Seaton than it is for the show, but it's only because Dylan is going to have to grow in that. That position. Just like Marvin did when we lost McLovin. McLovin wanted to be around his daughters, and he was commuting four hours a day. And I said, look, this is a better job than what you're going to take, but this allows you to be a better dad. That's the important part of all of this. So you can get caught up in being selfish. And, you know, I learned that with McLovin, he had to do what was right for him, and. And he did. He did what was right for him. Tripp in Vegas is back. Hi, Trip. What's on your mind today?
Caller
Hey, good morning, Dan. Always good to speak with y'. All. Had a few comments about Augusta and two questions for your guys. Having the privilege of going there about 25 times in my life. You don't have to like golf to enjoy Augusta. The azaleas bloom electronically. They're heated if they don't bloom, and then people don't understand how hard it is to walk that course. The elevation is not seen by the tv. And my two questions are this. How far down does Marvin have to grip a golf club to be able to hold it? If he can? And then next week. And then next week, we'll. All the Danettes be standing room only because there'll be no seating.
Dan Patrick
Oh, I see. No seating. Reserve seat. I know, Marvin. You can swing a golf club.

good morning, Dan. Thank you for taking my call. Just a couple things. First of all, I wanted to say that Seton will be missed. When I found out yesterday I missed the show on Tuesday. But when I found out yesterday, it was truly. It was Truly depressing to hear about that and think about it. So, Seaton, you'll be missed greatly. But secondly, you were talking about a dog collar. Shocking. And I had a little story about that a few years ago, a bunch of co workers and I had a Christmas party, and I walked in the room and there was a guy standing there facing the other way. And I said, what's going on? And he was taking a little dare with the shock collar, and he was. Now he was taking it a little bit lower in a worse spot, but. But he wanted to see how fun this is, the crazy guy. But he wanted to see how far he could go. So my boss had just buzzed him with a one. He said, okay, I can take that. And my boss gave me the buzzer. So I said, okay, here's two, and hit him with about a four. And then he said, okay, I can do another one. I said, okay, here goes three. And I hit him with about a seven. And I ended up getting him all the way to the 12 before he lost it.
Dan Patrick
Okay, wait a minute. Is this in his groin area?
Caller
Yes, this is in his groin area.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I mean, we did the shock collar for Dylan. He lost a bet. By the way, that's on the gambling podcast, and it's available@danpatrick.com. thank you. J.D. allen in Charleston. Hi, Alan. What's on your mind today?
Caller
Good morning, Dan. First of all, Seaton, congrats on the new move. I hope everything works out great for you. I know how you value everything in that man cave, but I think it would be great if you presented to Seaton that gore mask on top of the door that you have there. This way he can put it in his new man cave. What do you think?
Dan Patrick
Well, I think Seaton is planning on taking that.
Marvin (Marv)
You know, I. I really wasn't.
Dan Patrick
Oh, you weren't?
Marvin (Marv)
No, I wasn't planning on taking that. No, I would.
Dan Patrick
Would you like to have the guard. Oh, my God.
Marvin (Marv)
Are you kidding me?
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Marvin (Marv)
That would be amazing.
Dan Patrick
Okay, what we'll do on Friday is I'll get a ladder, and then you can go up there and take it down.
Caller
Dude.
Dan Patrick
As we end the show.
Marvin (Marv)
That is.
Dan Patrick
So. This will be your one guaring moment.
Marvin (Marv)
One guaring moment. That's great. That's. There's not a lot of those in existence.
Dan Patrick
There's probably maybe two.
Marvin (Marv)
Yeah, no, there's. There's a couple of them, but. Yeah, that. That would be incredible.
Dan Patrick
All right. Corey in Kansas City. Hi, Corey. What do you have for me?
Caller
Hey, good morning, Mr. Patrick. T& the boys. Marv Seton, Wu Tang favorite guys. I got cut off yesterday before I could address Seton. So with your permission, Dan, I just have something I'd like to say.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Caller
So to Seton, man, I am a day early on this, but I work tomorrow, so I had to kind of call today. I remember distinctly McLovin leaving and honestly, not really caring much when that fake nerd left the show. Marv, you truly are a member of the starting five. And beginning next week, you are going to be my favorite. But, Seaton, you've been my guy on the show since I started listening to the pod, and I haven't missed a day since 2009 when they finally became an E. Regular caller. I always started each one with the Wu Tang Forever shout out to you because your taste and love of music is what made you my favorite on the show. Your humor, too, man. From the fake laughs impersonating Fritzi's cough to Jimmy Jimmerson, all the other outstanding impressions you've concocted, man, you're just overall energy and opinion shared. You will be missed on the daily.
Dan Patrick
Well, thank you, Corey. Glad you called back.
Marvin (Marv)
I appreciate that.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Look at that, Seaton.
Marvin (Marv)
How about that?
Dan Patrick
Now pouring a love.
Marvin (Marv)
How about that?
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Yes.
Amazon Advertiser / Intern
Marv, is this like Charlie Sheen leaving Two and a Half Men or like Shelley Long leaving Cheers?
Dan Patrick
Charlie Sheen left 2 1/2 Men. That wasn't a good situation. Shelley Long went to make movies.
Marvin (Marv)
I don't really appreciate the Shelley Long part of that, but the. I would have thought if you had given me the chance that, like, if I was betting, I would have thought it would have ended much more Charlie Sheen, like, given the way I'd been living my life for a long time, a lot closer to that than Shelley Long.
Dan Patrick
That's why when you came in and you said, you know, you were, like, kind of casually talking about not drinking anymore and how long you'd been sober, and I. I just. I was like. I was surprised that all of a sudden you wake up one day and you go, that's it. I don't want to drink anymore. And. And it's great that you got to that point in your life, because not many people do. Certainly, the older you get, you're like, who gives a damn? But, you know, you came to that realization, and, like, you know, there's a lot of different things, but that's one of those moments that will stay with me because you made a commitment to that, and it was important to you, and you realized having a son, being married you know, all the things that go with that. But that. That's one of the things that will stand out probably more so than all the humor that we had.
Marvin (Marv)
You know, I. I had. I had gotten to a point where I was like, conscious of the fact that I didn't leave a room in my house without having a drink in my hand. Like, if I was gonna go from one this room to that room, like, ah, let me bring my whiskey with me. I'm gonna go here, whatever this is. And I just. I really had to be a better example for my son, you know, I really couldn't let him see me doing that. Dad, you want to go play Madden in the other room? Sure. Let me bring this beer with me. Let me bring this whiskey. And I just didn't really want him seeing me be like that anymore. And he had seen me like that for way too long. And it. Once I had this sort of window of sobriety. I had about two weeks. I was going to do a month, but I had about two weeks. I was like. I just saw this door open and I was like, this is my chance. I don't know that I'm ever going to take this chance again to actually try to clean myself up and just. It stuck somehow, you know.
Dan Patrick
How long has it been?
Marvin (Marv)
It's over. Well, two and a half years. So it'll be. It'll be three years in end of September. Three years. Yeah. Yeah. So it's. And that again, I haven't been able to say that since I was in about third grade, you know, when that.
Dan Patrick
When did you start drinking?
Marvin (Marv)
Well, probably like fourth grade.
Dan Patrick
Sneaking.
Marvin (Marv)
Yeah, kinda. Yeah, it was. You know, I grew up in a culture of drinking, you know, like my town and the area that I grew up in, it was. It had previously been in the Guinness Book of World Records for most bars in a square mile, you know, and like, if you went to the firehouse, like all of the firehouses, for some reason, the house, the town is a mile square, but there's like seven firehouses, and every firehouse is a bar. And every time you go, it was just. It was. You're constantly in it, you know.
Caller
And.
Marvin (Marv)
Yeah, just. I started. I wasn't drinking regularly, but I was having alcohol at that time more than I should have you more than like, sip off of somebody's beer or whatever. It was more than that. And I really shouldn't have been. But it. Yeah, I just. It's probably. My alcohol is probably my first true love, you know, more than sports or music or skateboarding or any like girlfriend or partner I've ever had. That was the thing that, like, I just wanted to hang out and drink all day. It's all I wanted to do.
Dan Patrick
You know, I want to thank Rob, who is one of the backroom guys putting together during the commercial breaks on Peacock and NBC Sports Network. All of the archival stuff with Seton involved in it that we wanted to do. I mean, there's so many memories and I forgot how many memories that we've had just with Seaton alone. But Rob and the team back there went through all the archives and I said, bring out the greatest hits with Seaton. So we still have tomorrow to play even more of those. We'll take a break. Well, my prom date was Lisa Richards.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Amazon Advertiser / Intern
Yeah. Lisa Richards was fine as wine.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Amazon Advertiser / Intern
Yes.
Marvin (Marv)
Careful.
Dan Patrick
But then there's Shanika.
Amazon Advertiser / Intern
Yes. She came over to 106 in Marv. And I entertained when I was a tiny boy.
Dan Patrick
When you were in College at UConn.
Dan Hurley
Late high school, early college, doing damage.
Dan Patrick
Before.
Amazon Advertiser / Intern
I mean, before I met my wife, of course. But now me, I'm a family man.
Dan Patrick
Yes, you are. And you are the father. Whatever.
Amazon Advertiser / Intern
Whatever. Maury had a run.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, he did. He did.
Amazon Advertiser / Intern
And he only had two topics on the show.
Dan Patrick
Either you are the father or you're not.
Amazon Advertiser / Intern
Or the really bad teenage kids.
Dan Patrick
Oh.
Amazon Advertiser / Intern
He was like, I do whatever I want and no one can tell me anything. Cross his arms.
Marvin (Marv)
Yeah, they have those, like, little setup pieces where, like, everybody thinks I'm bad news.
Dan Patrick
Whatever.
Amazon Advertiser / Intern
Guess what? They're right. Cross his arms.
Dan Patrick
But who did it better, Springer or Maury?
Amazon Advertiser / Intern
Because Springer was hotter.
Dan Patrick
Springer had a lot of things going on there. I mean, you're right, Maury. He didn't have too Many topics there that were discussed. It was either you're pregnant with that guy or you're not, and. Or the troubled teen. And then you'd have the mom and he, he's not listening to me, or she won't listen to me. And then you would have some kind of therapist on there, you know. Yes.
Dan Hurley
Todd and Springer would have more fights with bouncer Steve getting involved. And they're chanting, Jerry, Jerry.
Dan Patrick
So that was always entertaining. There's actual fights going on. Yeah. But if you look back, Phil Donahue is the one who created all of this. He was, he was so far ahead of his time. He was so good at what he did. And then Oprah copied that. And I think people forgot about Phil Donahue. He was, he was like, good topics, serious topics. And he would be running around with his microphone interviewing people. Yes.
Marvin (Marv)
Yeah. He's like asking the crowd there and the people that he's interviewing, he's like, you know, on today's show, we've got the kkk, the Black Panthers, and a bunch of punk rockers. Let's get into it. Like, what? Dude, this is crazy.
Dan Patrick
What could go wrong?
Marvin (Marv)
Show is nuts.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. And then Geraldo did his as well. Sally Jesse Raphael had hers with her red glasses. Yeah. Daytime. Everybody had. Everybody wanted to do one of those shows. Chris in Texas. Hi, Chris. What's on your mind?
Caller
Hey, Dan. How's it going, man?
Dan Patrick
Good, good, good.
Caller
Awesome. Dan. Etch. Good to meet y'. All. First time, long time, 6 foot, 180. I just wanted to call in. I've been listening to y' all for 20 years. I'm 38. Wanted to congratulate Seaton on the move. Sounds super exciting. The McLovin leaving was a big blow. The Dan retirement was a big blow. Seaton leaving now is a big blow. I'm starting to feel the, the weight of the show kind of culminating here. And just wanted to call in and give everybody congratulations and props and let y' all know that y' all have guided me for the past 20 years of my sports life and it's been awesome. And just wanted to call in.
Dan Patrick
Thank you, Chris. I, I said this last hour, we don't know the impact we have, you know, on your day to day life. The role that we play, we hopefully play a role. Caller
What's up, Dan? Thanks for taking the call. This is a second time. 59165 yeah, just want to echo kind of what Corey said about music. Say little words to Seton. Seaton. I remember when you were up front with Paulie on the board and coming back from break, all of a sudden I hear leave it alone by no effects. I'm like, heck yeah, dude. Also, your attention to soccer too, like even minor league soccer and semi pro soccer is really, really good. Being in Boise, we just got our first USL soccer team. And if you're ever doing any kind of content out here out west, I welcome you to reach out. And I'm a proud season ticket holder and I know one of the sponsors could get you on and meet you the team and get you a tour of the stadium. So appreciate that. Just good luck to you, your wife, Kieran, and it's awesome, man.
Dan Patrick
Thank you, Eddie. Three more hours tomorrow. Three more hours tomorrow. Last, last call. Meet Friday. Seaton's control in the menu, the music. Let's go around the room. What we learned on the program, Todd. Dave Roberts didn't want to throw anyone under the bus, but he noted Eric Gregg's very favorable strike zone for lavon Hernandez and 97 plus being the Marlington Braves. Seaton.
Marvin (Marv)
Marvin thinks I'm making a Shelley Long type decision.
Dan Patrick
Well, Rick Riley accused me of being Shelley Long leaving espn.
Marvin (Marv)
I'm right about the same age then as you leaving ESPN.
Dan Patrick
I was 50. Marvin.

Episode: Hour 3 – Dan Hurley, Preparing for Seton’s Exit
Date: April 9, 2026
Podcast Network: iHeartPodcasts and Dan Patrick Podcast Network
This hour of The Dan Patrick Show features an in-depth, candid conversation with UConn men's basketball coach Dan Hurley, fresh off the national title game. Dan talks about the emotional highs and lows of a long season, the evolving landscape of college basketball, and the pressures facing players and coaches post-season—especially in the Nil and transfer portal era. The regulars reflect on team dynamics and celebrate Seaton's contributions as he prepares to exit the show. The hour is enriched with listener calls, humor, and genuine moments reflecting on change, legacy, and personal growth within the crew.
Hurley describes the process of physical and emotional recovery after the intense close of the college basketball season.
On the difference between the “high high” of winning and the “low low” of losing:
Hurley discusses pivotal game moments, seeing early that Michigan’s size and athleticism would be a challenge.
Despite losing, Hurley highlights positives like 22 offensive rebounds and a strong defensive showing.
Hurley praises the referees’ overall performance while acknowledging some missed calls but underscores Michigan’s deserving win.
With the season freshly ended, Hurley faces an avalanche of roster decisions (NBA draft, transfers).
Advises players like Braylon Mullins to stay in college unless they’re clear first-round picks, noting the financial realities of NIL.
Hurley acknowledges he’s never had a true “top 10” recruiting class, instead focusing on fit and program needs.
Reflects on whether college basketball’s future is annual roster overhaul or retention with selective transfers. Praises Michigan’s all-transfer national title roster.
On coaching stress:
“This is terrible right now, what’s going on… It’s not terrible in a sense of NIL—NIL for the players is awesome… Just, you know, I think as college programs, you literally have to have a front office that takes over at this point of the year.”
— Dan Hurley (14:42)
On rampant tampering in college hoops and why schools can “recruit” coaches from under contract elsewhere:
Hurley closes with gratitude, acknowledging the challenges and unknowns of the offseason.
Dan reflects on the emotional tug-of-war between what’s best for the show and supporting staff members’ life decisions.
Cites previous exits (like McLovin), and the importance of letting people grow:
Listeners and Dan discuss Seaton’s legacy, music curation, and the irreplaceable energy he brought.
This episode is a microcosm of The Dan Patrick Show—blending top-tier sports content (with one of the game's best coaches), honest conversations about change and growth, and plenty of laughs. If you’re a fan of college basketball or just want a reminder of what makes great radio personalities tick, this hour is not to be missed.
