So what happened to Chappaquiddick?
Max Chavkin
Well, it really depends on who you talk to. There are many versions of what happened in 1969 when a young Ted Kennedy drove a car into a pond and.

You are listening to the Dan Patrick show on Fox Sports Radio. It's the final hour on this Tuesday. Dan and the Danettes Dan Patrick show two days until we have football Thursday night NFL preseason, Lions, Chargers hall of Fame game. That'll be Thursday. Festivities started 7 Eastern on NBC and Peacock, which is where you'll find this show. Thank you for downloading the app and if you haven't, please do so. You can watch the program. And we say good morning to our radio affiliates around the country. Have a new poll question coming up. We will hear from Daniel Jeremiah, former NFL scout, now an analyst for NFL Network. He's been bouncing around a couple of camps so we'll get his thoughts on the upcoming season. 877-3-DP show email address dpdanpatrick.com Twitter handle @dpshow and operator Tyler sitting by. He'll take your phone calls. Some of the headlines Ryan Sandberg, Rhino, passes away at the age of 65. The Cubs great Hall of Fame second baseman Deion Sanders discusses his cancer diagnosis. Bladder cancer. And he sounded energetic. He sounded good. Yesterday at his press conference. I always knew I was going to coach again. I never didn't realize I was going to coach again. I was always going to coach.
Todd Fritz
It was never in my spirit, in.
Max Chavkin
My heart that God wouldn't allow me to coach again. That's never thought like that. All right. I have the over under win total, although Dion's already won. But as far as his team, the over under from DraftKings on Colorado regular season win total over under five and a half for Dion. So no Shador, no Travis. There was a story yesterday, maybe the day before, and I think the mothership was at Jacksonville camp and Travis Hunter was with the defense. And then he left the defense and walked over and he wanted to get part. He wanted to take part with the offense. He asked if he could take part with the offense and he said, no, not right now. It's one of those stories that is been underplayed a lot. Shador Sanders has gotten more attention than a guy who was doing something that hasn't been done since, what, Chuck Bednar, when he played both ways back in the, what, 50s and 60s for the Eagles. I mean, this, this is really unheard of. Now, you've had Dion played offense and defense, a little bit of offense, but for the most part, Travis Hunter has kind of flown under the radar. Now he's with Jacksonville. You know, you win the Heisman, it's a big deal. Shador Sanders got more attention just because of his name. I don't even know if he's going to play this year. I don't know how much he'll play now. Do I think he'll start a game at least? Yes, I do. But Travis Hunter is doing something remarkable. Now. There's a former player who told me this, and he played wide receiver. He didn't want to attach his name to it. And he said, Because I said, you know what? How would you deal with Travis Hunter? And he said, I would make sure that offensively we worked him. So when he played offense, he's tired like I, he's. He's going to play defense and he's going to be playing most of the plays on defense. But when he is covering me or a teammate, like we're going in his direction because it's. Now, granted, he might be great, but we want to go, we want to make sure that he's not going to hurt us on both sides of the ball. And although I don't want to go there where he is and challenge him, but I do want him in the play to make sure that I'm, I'm going to have him not as explosive on the offensive side of the ball, I said, okay, I wouldn't have seen it that way. But he said, if he's going to play both ways, let's say he plays 30% of the offensive plays we want to make sure that when he goes and. And he's going to get ready to go out for a pass that, you know, we. We've already worked him a little bit, be physical with him and, you know, that that might be a way to kind of curb how impactful he can be on both sides of the ball. All right, Seaton poll question for the final hour of the program is what?
Marvin
Yeah, right now we've got up there. Would you rather have 250k or be completely jacked, is the saying.
Max Chavkin
Okay, Todd used to be jacked. He did.
Todd Fritz
I missed those days. And therefore I would take big jacked over the quarter of a million dollars. Oh, I'm being honest. Yeah.
Max Chavkin
So if I had $250,000 or I could magically transform you to when you look like a steroided Mark Ruffalo.
Todd Fritz
It was nice to be checked out and be accused of at the gym of taking steroids. And you get a little whistle or an extra look from a girl or someone honks their horn as they're driving by.
Max Chavkin
Wait, wait. Girls whistled at you?
Todd Fritz
There's a couple of little, you know, there was a couple of honks and winks and maybe whistle. I might have exaggerated that a little bit. But there were times when, you know, you're walking around the neighborhood or you. You leave the gym and you're all shiny from sweat from a good pump and you're being, you know, out of the corner of some people's eyes or at least you think that someone's checking you out and was impressed with your physique.
Max Chavkin
But you could do that now at.
Todd Fritz
A much, much lower level.
Ian Pfaff
Maybe.
Todd Fritz
I lost £40.
Max Chavkin
I can. But you could. You could do it.
Todd Fritz
I could, but it's a lot easier when you're a teenager and, and you know, you're not married with kids. Not to make excuses, but you have more responsibilities and you can't just spend your life at the gym and. Ah, that's the problem.
Marvin
Your busy schedule.
Max Chavkin
Yeah, yeah. What. What is that schedule? That's the problem. So there's no kids at home watching.
Todd Fritz
Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortun.
Ian Pfaff
Dateline.
Max Chavkin
You didn't. Todd, you didn't have the kids, like, physically, like, you didn't deliver them. I'm just letting you know that is true. And they're not home it anymore.
Todd Fritz
Yeah. There's no excuse other than that, you know, metabolism issues and liking to eat a snack late at night and not working out the way I used to.
Max Chavkin
Work out, all those are so those are choices. Yeah.
Todd Fritz
Those are choices, but I think at 50.
Max Chavkin
50.
Todd Fritz
What am I now, 55.
Max Chavkin
What about 250K? Or you're jacked.
Marvin
I'm taking the 250K.
Max Chavkin
All right.
Marvin
Close.
Max Chavkin
Marvin, 250K? Yeah. Paul, 250K. I could work out more. Yeah. 200. 250. Yeah. I don't care if I'm jacked.
Marvin
Yeah. I'm like three months away. Give me three months and I could be in pretty good shape. I don't even know where I would find $250,000.
Max Chavkin
But could you be jacked, though?
Marvin
As jacked as this frame would allow me, yeah. Yeah, I could do that.
Max Chavkin
Yeah. Paulie. It's tough, though, at a certain age to put in that many hours at the gym to get jacked in shape. And jacked are really. Yeah, I don't want to be jacked.
Marvin
What is the line, then? I'm. I'm not exactly a bodybuilder. So what is the threshold for then one becomes.
Max Chavkin
Then jacked.
Marvin
I would say more so the hours.
Max Chavkin
You put in that you have in the data. Okay. Would you rather look like Tom Brady's body? Lean. Jacked. Lean or 250k? You look. Look good on a yacht with your shirt off. Yes.
Todd Fritz
Marvin, 250k. I could look like Tom Brady by Notre Dame game.
Max Chavkin
You could. Will you. Did I just. Are you saying you're going to look like Tom Brady by the. By the Notre Dame USC game?
Ian Pfaff
Like lean?
Max Chavkin
Yeah.
Todd Fritz
In shape.
Max Chavkin
I'm in. Okay, good. All right, I'm rooting for you. October, what?
Todd Fritz
15Th.
Max Chavkin
All right. Yes. Todd, is this also one of those.
Todd Fritz
Deals with the devil? Because then you could all of a sudden magically make me jack, but then I have to maintain that unless that's part of the deal, that you'll forever look like that. Is that in a matter of weeks or months? I.
Max Chavkin
How do you find. How do you find the negative?
Todd Fritz
Because you can wave your wand and I look like that, and then I just let it go to crap. And I could have had a quarter million dollars.
Max Chavkin
Okay.
Todd Fritz
Because I didn't work out hard.
Max Chavkin
How about this? You're permanently jacked. The rest of the.
Todd Fritz
I'll take the jacked.
Max Chavkin
Okay. Yes. Yes.
Marvin
Okay. What if we figured out Marvin just threw out the Notre Dame game? We could even go one further than that to the. I think in November, perhaps a Las Vegas situation.
Max Chavkin
Okay.
Marvin
That gives us another little bit of a little time frame there. So that would give us essentially August, September, October, and then whatever is left of November.
Max Chavkin
Right.
Marvin
Sales Is in the building today. What if we can sell some type of competition amongst the group here of. Is it a body fat percentage that we lose? Is it a. What's the way to. Not everybody has a threshold of weight to lose. How do you balance that out to then say this would be the winner. We're calling it the Jacked Off.
Max Chavkin
The Jacked off brought to you by.
Todd Fritz
All kinds of sponsorship.
Marvin
Yeah. Planet Fitness, the Dan Patrick show. Jacked off.
Max Chavkin
No doubt.
Todd Fritz
BMI not included.
Max Chavkin
Yeah, we can look at that. We can.
Marvin
I think we can.
Max Chavkin
Yeah, we.
Marvin
I think we can look into that. Heading right into the new year where everybody, you know, once January 1st hit, everybody's trying to get in shape. We're already shredded.
Max Chavkin
Screw you guys. Okay, we can talk to sales today. We're having lunch with them.
Ian Pfaff
We are.
Marvin
Yeah.
Max Chavkin
I'll let you bring up the. The title of the sponsor.
Todd Fritz
Want to get that winter body when you have. You're covered in all those layers where everybody can check out your six pack.
Max Chavkin
Thank you, Todd. Eric in Atlanta. Hi, Eric. What's on your mind today?
Ian Pfaff
Hey, Dan. I heard you guys were talking music earlier and the band Jethro Toll came up and had a little question for Todd. Wonder if he had ever heard of Jenna Tolls.
Max Chavkin
Thank you. Thank you, Eric. Have you heard of that band Todd?
Todd Fritz
I have not, actually. Yeah, I would check them out, though.
Max Chavkin
I think you do.
Todd Fritz
Guilty as charged.
Max Chavkin
Tim in Ohio. Hi, Tim.
Ian Pfaff
Hey, Dan. Thanks for taking my call. Yeah, I just want to start out by saying I love Todd so much, but today has been just a prime example of the duality of Todd. I started out totally on Todd's side. He always gets berated. I always feel a little bad for him. But then he started with the Beatles takes and yeah, it's just been tough. But my only criticism that I want to point out is Todd keeps referencing the Beatles first record whenever he talks about their lyrics. Meanwhile, Billy Joel's best song is a song about a guy singing a song. So playing a song. But yeah. Love you guys. Thanks for taking my call.
Max Chavkin
All right. Thank you, Tim. Yeah, the lyrics with the Beatles, they certainly evolved in their music. Evolved too. So just saying that. And they did so quickly. Dominica in Charlotte. Hopefully I've got that name right. Domenica.
Ian Pfaff
Yes, you did get a correct. Good afternoon, gentlemen. Listen to me. Thank you, Todd. Someone had to say it. Okay, I get the first wave of the Euro thing and all of that, but the Beatles are so overrated. I'll take the Rolling Stones over the Beatles Any Day of the week. I couldn't stand the voice and the way they sing. And I, you know, I just. I. I can never get into it, and I've honestly tried. I can't get into it.
Max Chavkin
Okay, how old are you?
Ian Pfaff
I'm a Gen Xer, so I'm not completely glib when it comes to rock and roll.
Max Chavkin
Okay, but are you taking Billy Joel and hauling Oates over the Beatles as well?
Ian Pfaff
Oh, oh, abso freaking lutely. I'll take Fleetwood Mac over the Beatles.
Max Chavkin
Okay. So the age has something to do with this. Not really experience what Beatlemania was. And, yeah, I mean, they made headlines. They were. They were the biggest band in the world by far for, you know, quite some time. Even after they were done, they were still the biggest band. But I. I appreciate the opinion and the enthusiasm. And you've got a big fan in Fritzi there, so thank you. Dominica.
Marvin
Yes, I think Dominican. Called in once before. She might be a voiceover artist.
Max Chavkin
Sounds like she's.
Marvin
That's a strong voice.
Max Chavkin
Use that voice before.
Marvin
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Max Chavkin
Kind of felt like she was trying to outvoice me a little bit there.
Marvin
And did pretty well. Just saying. She was bringing heat.
Max Chavkin
Yeah. But then she was mocking their voices, you know.
Marvin
Hey, you showing a range of what she can do with.
Max Chavkin
Okay. All right. All right. Yeah. Todd's. Todd's got a. An admirer there.
Todd Fritz
Is it possible that it's one of those. You had to be there groups, the Beatles? Like, I could have got swept away, I guess, in the 60s with this. Who are these new people that just got off the plane from Europe and they're out in their hairdos and they're singing a different kind of music? Maybe I would have got it.
Max Chavkin
I wasn't alive, you know, when Elvis first came onto the scene.
Todd Fritz
I was into Fernando Mania. I was like a little kid. I was like, whoa. Fernando Mania. Beatlemania, not so much.
Max Chavkin
I can't help you. Like, I can't. You know, that's. That's where there's no reason to argue this. I truly can't help you understand great music. I can't. I've tried.
Todd Fritz
Well, I'm tone deaf and I don't know how to rhyme, so you gotta.
Max Chavkin
Well, you're right. You are. You. You can't stay on pitch. You don't stay on time. Yeah, you're a little tone deaf.
Todd Fritz
That being said, the Beatles are very over it.
Max Chavkin
Well, they might be overrated because they're. They're so magnanimous that. Yes, Maybe they're. They don't live up to everything that you would think or they should, or, you know, how they're, you know, hailed.
Todd Fritz
And different and unique doesn't always mean great. It just means different and unique doesn't. You know, you're not all of a sudden amazing because you're doing something or sounding different than we're used to. It doesn't make it great. Just makes it different.
Max Chavkin
They gave us a sound and then they added onto the sound over and over and over. What music, what instruments, how they recorded. They didn't go on the road. They just did studio albums. We'll talk about them more than any other artist for the rest of our.
Todd Fritz
Lives because we think we're supposed to.
Marvin
We've kind of been forced into doing or pressured into saying the Beatles are the best.
Todd Fritz
People will think I don't understand music or appreciate. But you don't.
Max Chavkin
Springsteen.
Todd Fritz
That's how people.
Max Chavkin
You don't. Do you realize how many songs Springsteen's written? Do you realize how many different types of music he's written?
Todd Fritz
I'm not talking about the music that's gone to 138 boss concerts.
Max Chavkin
He's toured the world. He what? He's there. It's unfathomable what he's done.
Todd Fritz
What is touring the world be like? I'll give the shout out to the pilots that flew them all over the world. They could get credit. Anyone can fly.
Max Chavkin
Demand for it. Todd.
Todd Fritz
That's because there are people.
Max Chavkin
You don't just fly there. They have to show up when you get there.
Todd Fritz
I have to like Bruce Brinks and everyone else does. I guess I'm supposed to like them. Let's go to Bruce Brigstey concert. Everyone else seems to be going. That's what happens. And that people become followers.
Max Chavkin
Hole and Oats can't even stay together.
Todd Fritz
Yeah, that's a little oats.
Max Chavkin
Hall hates oats.
Todd Fritz
Now you're. Now you're hurting my feelings.
Max Chavkin
Okay. Yeah, yeah. Billy Joel hadn't written a good song in 30 years.
Todd Fritz
You're getting way too personal.
Max Chavkin
Any song.
Todd Fritz
It's uncalled for.
Max Chavkin
He's been divorced three times. Oh, come on now.
Todd Fritz
It's got nothing to do with anything.
Max Chavkin
You may be wrong. You may be right.
Todd Fritz
Married a supermodel. Give him a couple of points. Didn't last very long. But it's.
Max Chavkin
Every musician goes out with a supermodel.
Todd Fritz
Because they're so handsome.
Max Chavkin

For my heart podcasts and Rococo Punch this is the Turning River Road. I knew I wanted to obey and submit, but I didn't fully grasp for the rest of my life what that meant. In the woods of Minnesota, a cult leader married himself to 10 girls and forced them into a secret life of abuse. Why did I think that way? Why did I allow myself to get so sucked in by this man and thinking to the point that if I died for him, that would be the greatest honor? But in 2014, the youngest of the girls escaped and sparked an international manhunt. For all those years, you know, he was the predator and I was the prey. And then he became the prey. I was walking by and I saw on one of the monitors, the mothership was asking the question, is Baker Mayfield a top five NFC quarterback? Now, I'm not big on list rankings like that, but then I said to Paulie, I said, do you agree? Baker Mayfield, top five quarterback, nfc? I said, would you take him over Jordan Love? You said, yeah. Would you take him over Dak Prescott? No doubt. Okay. Baker's last two seasons, 41 touchdowns and 16 picks last year. Yeah, 40, you know. Would you take him over Jared Goff? Oh, man, no. Would you take him over Jalen Hurts? No. Would you take him over Matthew Stafford? Yes. Because of injury. Okay.
Ian Pfaff
Baker's reliable right now.
Max Chavkin
It's like he's at the point of career where we know what he is.
Ian Pfaff
I think he's 29.
Max Chavkin
It's all cleaned up. Daniel Jeremiah, NFL Network analyst and co host of Move the Sticks podcast. He is a Chargers radio color analyst, former NFL scout, and he's at the Chargers camp today and was recently at the Titans camp inside. The NFL Network's training camp coverage continues today starting at noon Eastern. Let me start there. Daniel Baker Mayfield, top five NSC quarterback.
Ian Pfaff
Well, first of all, Dan, I think this is when, you know, the off season, you know, was too long, when it's like we've narrowed the list. Mayfield, is he a top three former Oklahoma quarterback who's played in the last 15 years? But golly, I'm having a run through all. Wait, who is all in this, in this discussion? I agree with every all the comps that were just made except Stafford. I would. They were in the same building at the same time not long ago. And you know, to me, I know Stafford was heard that time, but Stafford to me is just. He's more talented so even at this stage in his career. But yeah, he belongs up there in that in the nfc. But obviously the greater point, Dan, it's how lopsided the league is. Now stack him up with the afc. That's a long list on that side.
Max Chavkin
Okay, but is. Where does Baker rank in former Oklahoma quarterbacks in the last decade?
Ian Pfaff
Just. Just above Kyle. Well, we're gonna count. We can go back further. Does Troy Aikman still count as a no Oklahoma quarterback?
Max Chavkin
Okay. No.
Ian Pfaff
Okay. Yeah. Yeah, he's. He's up there. I would have him. Hypo would be below him. Sam Bradford is, you know, that's. That's debate in his prime before the injuries. I mean, that's a. That's a great. That's a great radio segment right now. Do that.
Max Chavkin
Okay. But Jalen Hurts. Is he the best Oklahoma quarterback in the last 10 years? Or do you put Kyler Murray or do you put Baker Mayfield? Let's just do those three.
Ian Pfaff
Yeah. No, I would go. So it's Baker, Tyler and then Jalen. I would go, Jalen, Baker, Kyler.
Max Chavkin
Okay. All right. I'm just not sure about Jalen Hurts. It's weird how you can be great in a Super bowl loss, great in a Super bowl win. I just don't know, is he a great quarterback or is he just the right quarterback for a great team?
Ian Pfaff
Yeah, I mean, that's tough to. It's tough to figure that. I will let you know though, Dan. We are in danger of Spencer Rattler throwing this back in our face after a big 2025.
Max Chavkin
What about Landry Jones? Or is he.
Ian Pfaff
But Hertz is. To your point, though, like, it. They're different, obviously totally different style players. And it just does feel like the. The rewind of the conversations on, you know, Brady with the early championships, which was like, how much is him? How much is it with the team? The point that, you know, that makes it challenging to me is with Jalen. I was talking about this the other day. If you were to go through like the great teams and you're going to have a draft off of their players, that to me is the fascinating discussion of, like, which pick would Jalen Hurts be off of the Eagles? Like, you know, just in terms of talent, he's probably not one of the three most talented players on that team. And you wouldn't say that about, you know, Josh Allen with the Bills would be the first pick. Mahomes with the Chiefs would be the first. First pick. You know, on and on you kind of go through that list. So that's where that, that's where that becomes a challenge.
Max Chavkin
Yeah, I think that's a great point. And, and look, these lists drive me crazy, but sometimes I have to acquiesce and go, okay, I'll do it. We're talking to Daniel Jeremiah, former NFL scout. He works for NFL Network, does a great job on their NFL draft coverage. You were at the Titans camp and it feels like, is Cam Ward officially the starting quarterback for the Titans?
Ian Pfaff
Yeah, I mean, I don't know if they've officially announced it, but it's clear and obvious when you go out there and watch him, he's the guy and he did some good things when I was there. He made some big time throws at a practice in the stadium the other day and you know, he's got a lot of ability. He's got a loose arm he can move around, which he's probably still going to need to do. I know they effort to really upgrade that offensive line, but it's still, you know, it's a little bit leaky. But I just, I was talking to their, their leadership there with the president, general manager. I said, you know, the kind of the cardinal sin in football in the NFL right now is you can't be bad and boring, Dan. Like you can be one or the other, but you can't be both. And this is going to keep them from being a boring team. They're going to be a fun watch, you know, with Ridley making some plays down the field and you know, Pollard's a good running back and now you've got an exciting quarterback. There's going to be turnovers, there's going to be some ugly moments. But I contend when you have a young quarterback, you're smart to try on that side of the ball because not all losses are the same. Rookie quarterback, if you're losing 28 to 27 or 28, 24 and he's, you know, showing some flags is a heck of a lot better than losing 13 to 9.
Max Chavkin
You know that that's part of the problem where like Carolina was bad and boring. I mean, Bryce is, is fun and showed glimpses last year and they're probably going to be better. And I look at the Cleveland Browns, they got Miles Garrett and I, but I don't find them entertaining. I don't know if people are going to, come on kids, we're going to go watch Miles Garrett today. They're kind of in, you know, no man's land. While we talk about their quarterbacks, they have two first round picks for next year that I don't know if it matters what they have this year because of those first round picks next year. So how do you assess Cleveland? Are they bad and boring as well?
Ian Pfaff
I think the defense has a chance to be good, but that doesn't make them less boring. So I do think they're in the boring category for sure. I don't know that I'm willing to put him totally in the bad category yet. And I think Flacco, even at this age, you know, he'll make him competitive, he'll make some plays. But I look at them, Dan, with those two, two first round picks you mentioned. And this year should be in my opinion about discovery. People don't want to hear that. But like I want to end the year. I'd like to know what I have in those two rookie quarterbacks, you know, at least, at least let them play a little bit. So I have some idea what I have before you go into a draft. So everybody. Yeah, the season hasn't even started yet. We talking about, let's, you know, we're going to, Joe Flacco is going to take us to the AFC championship game. And I'm like, you know, I don't really see that happening. But it would be a shame to get to this whole year for them to be kind of a right around or under 500 team and to not see those two rookies and not, you know, not know what you have going into year two.
Max Chavkin
Yeah, I think that certainly Shador is going to get a chance to play, probably start a few games as well, but more likely to use their two first round picks on a quarterback next year, the Rams or the Browns.
Ian Pfaff
I mean I would say, you know, if the quarterbacks live up to, you know, some of the, some of the love they're getting over the summer here for next year's quarterback class. Depending on who comes out, I would say that it's. They're both, I would be shocked if, if both of them didn't end up with a quarterback in next year's draft.
Max Chavkin
You are at Chargers camp and like we're seeing Jim Harbaugh make this a Michigan looking offense and they run the ball. Resigned Slater, they're, you know, they draft, they draft a running back, you bring in Najee, but their best offensive player is Justin Herbert. It, it's always, it's like J.J. mcCarthy. I didn't know how good he was at Michigan because he sort of de emphasized J.J. mcCarthy. Is Jim kind of de emphasizing Justin Herbert? I mean, he had his best year. Not statistically, but I think his, his quarterback rating was so it almost feels like. Is this Michigan 2.0 for the Chargers?
Ian Pfaff
Yeah, I think, you know, look, he protected the football until you got to the playoff game, unfortunately turned it over a little bit against the Texans. But I think the game plan is, you know, hey, maybe we can major in Clark Kent and minor in Superman and then, you know, make. That'll keep you fresh. And when we need you to kind of bust that out, we can do that. I mean, really, truthfully, it's what the Chiefs have done with Mahomes over the last couple years.
Max Chavkin
Yeah.
Ian Pfaff
Hasn't been really the driving force, that offense. So I think that's, that's part of it. But I was there last year at camp the day that Herbert. I believe it was his foot. He hurt his foot, then he missed a couple weeks of practice and then they didn't really use him much in the run game. But I mean, at the practice I was at and you. I was seeing like quarterback power and they were, they were some design quarterback runs where it was like, oh my gosh, like if they, if they're willing to do that and Herbert can, you know, add that a little bit of that Josh Allen element to his game. And he's a big, athletic strong guy and you saw with, with Andrew Luck and obviously he had Kaepernick with the, with the 49ers. I'm not saying it's going to be that level of volume in terms of running, but that could be an area of Herbert's game that they haven't really tapped into yet.
Max Chavkin
Yeah, I go back to his Rose bowl performance and I mean, his legs stood out to me when he was at Oregon in that game. And I don't know where coaches stand on having my quarterback run. You kind of hold your breath when Josh Allen runs because he's not running necessarily away from you, whereas Lamar and Kyler and some of those guys are avoiding contact. Can you. I mean, I would try to utilize Justin Herbert the way they do Josh Allen. I just wouldn't have him take on defenders like Josh does.
Ian Pfaff
Yeah, I mean, that would be preferable not to initiate contact, which Josh likes to do. But I, I mean, for, for the first couple years he was in the league and doing all the Charger games, I would always go down the field for warm ups and I'd always get a chance to talk with the opposing GM and other personnel buddies, and they would all say the same thing. Dan, it's just like, good night. I had no idea how big Justin Herbert is. Like, he is huge. And it's not, not much difference between him and Josh Allen size wise. They are both big, strong, sturdy guys. So I don't think it's something you want to do 10 times a game. But, you know, having that element even, even on zone reads and just having the threat of him as someone who could pull the ball.
Max Chavkin
Yeah.
Ian Pfaff
Now you've got Omarion Hampton, who is big and explosive and he can help the run game even if he's not necessarily carrying it.
Max Chavkin
Who's the worst team in the NFL right now?
Ian Pfaff
I don't, I'm curious to see what the, what the Saints end up looking like. You know, the Titans are going to be better, but I still think defensively, you know, they don't really have corners, they don't have edge rushes. I think they're going to give up a lot of points. Those would be the, those would be the two that would come to the top of mind.
Max Chavkin
And I know that Arch Manning hasn't played a full season at Texas, but if you're telling me that the Saints are on the clock with the number one pick, could you see Arch Manning deciding, I think he's staying another year after this, but if, if his hometown Saints are on the clock with the number one pick and he's had a very good year at Texas, you think Arch Manning would come out for that?
Ian Pfaff
I don't. I mean, everything seems to be what you're saying about him wanting to get another year and it's about having the long term success. And I, you know, as much as it'd be cool to play for your hometown team, I don't, I just don't think that's as much of a draw anymore. You know, if that were the case, he'd probably be playing for LSU right now.
Max Chavkin
Yeah, I think he's gonna, you know, because money's not the issue. Although if the Cleveland Browns are there staring at you, that might make me want to go back to play another year. Couple more years, I might go to grad school at.
Ian Pfaff
I've always wanted to be a dentist.
Max Chavkin
Great to talk to you. Thank you for joining us. I know you got a busy schedule and we'll be watching.
Ian Pfaff
Thanks, Dan. I appreciate you, buddy.
Max Chavkin
Daniel Jeremiah, NFL Network analyst and their inside training camp coverage continues today starting at noon Eastern. Yeah. What Harbaugh is doing with the Chargers is fascinating because you have your best offensive player, but you're. You're not asking him to be your best offensive player. It's kind of, you know, Troy Aikman with the Cowboys, when you. You had Mike and you had Emmett, you're just asking Troy, when we need you, we need you to step up. J.J. mcCarthy at Michigan. That's why when scouts would talk about how good he was, I kept thinking, I. I just didn't see it. And, yeah, I still haven't seen it, but I'm fascinated to find out just how good he is. Is. The Vikings made a conscious, concerted effort that they were drafting a quarterback. Now, maybe they didn't think that Sam Darnold was going to perform as well as he did, but they moved on from him, moved on from Kirk cousins. And J.J. mcCarthy gets the call. But watching Justin Herbert, and he joins us on Thursday on the show. But it's. We don't need you to throw as much as you've thrown before. We just need you to be really good when we ask you to throw. Jim is about defense and run of the football. That's what he does. Let me see a couple of phone calls. Lisa in California. Good morning, Lisa. What's on your mind today? Good morning, guys.
Ian Pfaff
I just wanted to weigh in here. I firmly believe that the reason everybody tells Todd to suck it is because they would rather he suck it than sing it.
Max Chavkin
Wow.
Marvin
Wow. Lisa off the top rope.
Max Chavkin
Wow.
Marvin
And nobody even knew she was up there.
Max Chavkin
I. It. You know, with that voice, I thought it was going to be something really sweet and nice that I felt that one. Yeah.
Marvin
Rather him suck it.
Todd Fritz
That's gonna sting. That's gonna sting for a little while.
Max Chavkin
Lisa, how do you feel about that?
Ian Pfaff
Well, I think it's interesting you guys think I sound sweet. There's no sweet in my game.
Max Chavkin
Whoa.
Ian Pfaff
Boom.
Max Chavkin
Alrighty. Thank you, Lisa.
Marvin
All right, Lisa and Pandora step into a ring.
Max Chavkin
Who's coming out?
Marvin
My money is on Lisa for sure.
Max Chavkin
Yeah. Because, I mean, Pandora feels like a lover. Yeah.
Marvin
But she's out on the farm.
Max Chavkin
Yes.
Marvin
On the ranch. All day.
Max Chavkin
That is true. She's. She's out there probably wrestling cattle or something like that. That's Lisa in California. She's not playing.
Marvin
I said masseuse. You know, she's got strong hands.
Max Chavkin
Racy in Georgia. Hi, Tracy.
Ian Pfaff
Good morning, gentlemen. Including Fritzi. You know, I'm really pulling for y' all to get this DP show jacked off up in the air. And I thinking what could really help us, Perhaps some corporate sponsorship, you know, let's kind of imagine the first annual DP show, Jacked off, presented by Jiffy Lube. And then you could donate all your proceeds to local strike victims.
Max Chavkin
All right, well, thank you, Tracy. Yeah, we're trying to get maybe some, you know, GNC that would help us get jacked and, you know, and then we would have the competition of who's jacked off. You know, the jacked off competition.
Marvin
I think creatine is making a big comeback these days. So. Yeah, yeah, I think we get on the creatine.
Max Chavkin
All right. I like you parsing your words. Yes, I am. Yes, I am. While we're doing the jack off, as I'm, as I'm watching my career unfold right before me very eyes. Take a break here. We'll take, we'll take a break. Last call for phone calls. What we learned. Last chance to say suck it. Back row right after this. Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in the nation. For my heart podcasts and Rococo Punch, this is the turning river road. I knew I wanted to obey and submit, but I didn't fully grasp for the rest of my life what that meant. In the woods of Minnesota, a cult leader married himself to 10 girls and forced them into a secret life of abuse. Why did I think that way? Why did I allow myself to get so sucked in by this man and thinking to the point that if I died for him, that would be the greatest honor. But in 2014, the youngest of the girls escaped and sparked an international manhunt. For all those years, you know, he was the predator and I was the prey. And then he became the prey. Dp thanks for calling me back, man. I, I, I have a set of the the Day song, but I'm no Pandora and I'm no Lisa, so I just wanted to preface with that.
Max Chavkin
All right, here's Marshall in South Carolina with his version of the Stat of the Day jingle.
Ian Pfaff
I can hear it coming from the Milford man cave, and I've been waiting all morning for the state of the day.

Nailed it.
Max Chavkin
Thank you, Marshall.
Marvin
Nailed it.
Max Chavkin
Yeah. Sounded better than Phil Collins. David in Ohio. Hi, David. What's on your mind today, man?
Ian Pfaff
Dan, I don't know if I could top that, but I just want to maybe. I had enough faith, bet with Todd that my Pittsburgh Steelers will have more wins than his Denver Broncos this year.
Max Chavkin
Oh, that one's tasty. That's tasty.
Todd Fritz
Aaron Rodgers. What we do? Yeah, why not? Let's do it.
Max Chavkin
Okay. Pie to the face, David, Is that good?
Ian Pfaff
Yeah, yeah.
Todd Fritz
I'm ready. I'm ready to have the same number of wins. He gets the pie in the face.
Max Chavkin
Yes, he does. Eight and a half for the Steelers over under win total this year. Thank you, David. Mike in Cincinnati. Hi, Mike. What's on your mind today?
Ian Pfaff
Hi, Dan. Hey, thanks for this Herbert interview coming up on Thursday. I've never really heard him interviewed, so that should be really outstanding. I appreciate you for that. This Beatles thing. Now, let's get real. You and I are the same age. These guys came around and just changed everything with music. They threw the whole rhythm and blues thing out the window from Elvis and the blues thing, everybody else. And they started off with some rock and roll, but then they implemented orchestral music. They implemented sitars. The Sgt. Peppers album is the most unique album and probably the best album I've Ever heard in my life. So to compare hall and Oates and Oasis to the Beatles, are you crazy? It's not even fathomable. And I love the Stones, but what did they do? They did a lot of other people's songs, a lot of old Muddy Water, different guys like that. They did a lot of blues songs done by other guys. Zeppelin, great musicians. But you're right, Dan, that the Beatles just really did change everything like you talked about.
Max Chavkin
Yes. They changed fashion, hairstyle. I mean, there was a complete wave. And if you listen to the complexities of their music, I mean, it is. It. It's mind boggling to do that over an eight or nine year period and have that impact. I. I don't. I shouldn't be fighting a Beatles fight here. It's just I hope that one day that you have an educated ear that you understand just how great the Beatles were. That's all. They've done it all. Yes, Marvin.
Todd Fritz
So with the Beatles, it's objectively good music.
Max Chavkin
It's great music. Okay. Yes, absolutely. They started out as a boy band. You know, hold on a. Hold your hand and then they gave you Helter Skelter. Like just. Just try to process that in a span of what, six or seven years? Sergeant Peppers? I mean, golly, yes.
Marvin
Was there like pushback when the Beatles switched up like that? Because like, in. In. I feel like today we wouldn't be as willing for some artists to be like, wait a minute, now you want us to take you seriously as a band? You know, like the Beatles were sort of like a boy band. And now all of a sudden, then they were artists.
Max Chavkin
Oh, yeah. You know, yes, because it would be like Beyonce going country when Taylor Swift went pop. So, yeah, we, we, you know, tend to, you know, put the seat belt on you and say, you got to stay in that genre.
Marvin
You're supposed to stay in that one lane that you already had for yourself.
Max Chavkin
Yeah, stay in your lane. Stay in your lane. Jason in Virginia. Hi, Jason, line one. Marvin. Hey, Jace.
Ian Pfaff
Hey. Hey, what's going on, Danny? How you doing?
Max Chavkin
Good. What's on your mind, Jace?
Ian Pfaff
Oh, man, I've been listening to you forever. Front row, back row. Love you guys. But, Danny, I'm gonna tell you right now, I've never wanted to call in until you started ranting about Bruce Springsteen. I saw him in concert one time. Everyone said I had to go. A 15 minute story. No. Terrible.
Max Chavkin
Okay, thank you, Jason. I'm not into the storytelling. I'm not. When he got, you know, had that reverend type voice. I. I just. I want to hear the music, that's all. I don't need a story. I saw him on Broadway. It was wonderful. But, yeah, original cast. Yes, I did. I saw the original cast of Springsteen on Broadway. I would have called it Bruce on Broadway, but he called it Springsteen. Okay, fine. This day in sports history. Paul, do you have anything for. I'm gonna switch it up, Dan. To be on theme.
Ian Pfaff
This day in movie history.
Max Chavkin
1965, the Beatles movie help made its world premiere at the London Pavilion theater in the West End of London. Princess Margaret showed up for it. Hot. Yeah, that would describe Fritzi. Help. That's. That's. If there was one song, it would be helpful.
Todd Fritz
It helped me understand why the Beatles are so great.
Max Chavkin
Oh, my goodness. There's only so much I can do.
Todd Fritz
I know she loves you, and that can't be bad. You should be glad.
Marvin
Not sad.
Max Chavkin
Okay, are you done? Yeah, I'm done.
Todd Fritz
Because we're short on time. Normally, I would just continue and you know that. Can they.
Max Chavkin
They wrote a song. They wrote an album that made Brian Wilson go crazy. Brian.
Todd Fritz
Saying she loves you and you should be glad.
Max Chavkin
Do you know who Brian Wilson is?
Todd Fritz
Yeah, he's one of the Beach Boys.
Max Chavkin

Podcast Summary: The Dan Patrick Show - Hour 3 with Daniel Jeremiah
Release Date: July 29, 2025
Introduction
In the third hour of The Dan Patrick Show, host Dan Patrick and co-host Max Chavkin welcome Daniel Jeremiah, a former NFL scout and current NFL Network analyst. The discussion delves deep into the upcoming NFL season, quarterback rankings, team strategies, and emerging player dynamics.
Current NFL Analysis
Quarterback Rankings
The conversation kicks off with an evaluation of quarterback performances and rankings. Max Chavkin poses the question, "Is Baker Mayfield a top five NFC quarterback?" (27:30). Daniel Jeremiah responds by assessing Mayfield's consistency and comparing him to peers:
Daniel Jeremiah [28:46]: "I would go, Jalen, Baker, Kyler."
He further discusses the challenges of ranking quarterbacks based on team performance versus individual talent, highlighting Jalen Hurts' adaptability and fit within his team structure.
Team Assessments
The hosts analyze various NFL teams' prospects for the season. The Cleveland Browns are scrutinized for their offense and defense balance:
Daniel Jeremiah [33:23]: "I think the defense has a chance to be good, but that doesn't make them less boring."
He expresses skepticism about the Browns' entertainment value despite potential defensive improvements.
Draft Prospects
The discussion shifts to upcoming draft picks and their potential impact. Daniel emphasizes the importance of evaluating rookie quarterbacks:
Daniel Jeremiah [34:52]: "I would say that it's. They're both, I would be shocked if, if both of them didn't end up with a quarterback in next year's draft."
This highlights his focus on quarterback depth and how teams might prioritize this position in future drafts.
