Final hour on this Monday. Best and worst of the weekend. What you saw that you liked, you didn't like. Operator Tyler sitting by. He'll take your phone calls. Stat of the day is always brought to you by Panini America, the official trading cards of the program. NBA on NBC and Peacock. Every Tuesday in prime time, coast to coast, Tuesday in the east. You can see the spurs and the 76ers in the west, Sons and the King. Oh, man, that doesn't sound good at all. Sons and the Kings. I'd watch it, but I'm just saying for the rest of America, it begins Tuesday at 8 Eastern on NBC and Peacock, which is where you can find our program on Peacock. Download the app if you haven't done so. Also, the NBC Sports Network combine is over. March is here, spring training, and we also get ready for the draft in Pittsburgh coming up in April. Golf around the corner with Augusta. Now they've been playing golf. They're there on the Florida swing and then it'll be Augusta. And I don't know if Tiger is playing or not. He sort of alluded to this in Los Angeles at the genesis that he might be playing or hasn't ruled out playing at Augusta. You know, my issue with Tiger would be can he play four days? I know he can play one day, but can you play four? And you don't get a golf cart. You got to walk. And that is a lot hillier course if you haven't been there on the grounds and the stress, the wear and tear, the There was a story that came out with Cornell Tate, Ohio statewide receiver, and he ran a 4 5, 3 at the combine. Adam Schefter then reported that apparently there were hand time 40 yard dashes for him that were considerably lower in the four fours. Whether that's true or not, but I was curious about this. It's not a death sentence to run four or five at the combine. C.D. lamb, Mike Evans, Keenan Allen, DeAndre Hopkins, Devonte Adams, Aman Ross, St. Brown and T. Higgins all ran 45 40s. I just want to know how you run your route, not necessarily how fast you are. I'd like to know how quick you are. I think that's far more important. It's getting in and out of your cuts. Can you do you know how to play football? That's what I want to know. Because if you're straight ahead speed, I mean Bob Hayes go back, you know, to the Cowboys in the 60s. Bob was an Olympic gold medalist and he had speed that we had never seen in the NFL, but he was one of those guys straight ahead speed. He was going to beat you deep. But he wasn't a route runner. John Ross, one of the fastest men on the planet, he went to the Bengals and couldn't play. There's been a couple of these players who have run those four twos, but I want to know what you do with your 4:2. Because your 4:2 may not be worth what my 4:5 is. So it's not the end of the world. That Carnell Tate, he's going to be a probably a top 10 pick, but you run a four or five, I still have to go back to what you did in college. Okay, that's important. I can't put all the emphasis on the combine and not put enough emphasis on the regular season. Yes, Marv.
Todd
And I don't think that people realize just how incredibly fast running a 4 or 5 in the 40 actually is. And how many of the great all time all timers were known as quote unquote, burners like Randy Moss could fly, but how many of those guys were really known as burners?
Dan Patrick
Randy Moss had everything that, that's the most talented wide receiver I've ever seen easily. And people might look at it and say it was a disappointing career. Like he had Minnesota, the Raiders then all of a sudden fell out of favor. They ends up with New England. But I remember the first time I saw him at Marshall and he was doing a crossing pattern. I remember, oh my God, that guy, he is gone. Six five, caught it, gone. And I went, all right, got my attention there. And then you find out that he was going to go to Notre Dame and I think Florida State, but quite, quite a freak, you know, when, when you think about just how great he was. Yes, Paul.
Paulie
Oh, some light NFL breaking news.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Paulie
Can't oversell it.
Dan Patrick

Dan Patrick

The Detroit Lions have traded David Montgomery. David Montgomery, serviceable running back to the blank for blank. To the blank for blank. Where did David Montgomery go this morning? According to multiple reports, Arizona, the Houston Texans for a fifth round draft pick.
Dan Patrick
Okay, so Joe Mixon probably not coming back and I don't know the extent of his entry or his recovery period, but Joe, Joe Mixon had, you know, a few good seasons there. Yeah, See more upsetting, being drafted in the fifth round or being traded for a fifth rounder. I would say being drafted in the fifth round because there's, there's a lot of talented players who get traded and they don't get traded for a lot of, you know, it can be a third round draft pick and you're like, wait, that guy's really good. But that's what I'm saying. Like David Montgomery. Don't you think he's looking at them being like, what the heck, I'm way better than a fifth rounder? No, I think he's looking at it and he's like, yes, I get to be a starting running back in the NFL. I don't know if he looks at it and goes, all you need is somebody to want you. That's it. Like, just one team who wants you. If you want out of your team, somebody wants you, great. I don't. I mean, maybe you stole me. I don't want you wasting a higher pick. We want to use all those picks to make this team. I'm going to better. But David Montgomery, he wanted out of Detroit, got his wish, and he's going to the Houston Texans for a fifth rounder. Yes. Paul.
Paulie
Yeah, he's in his seventh year. 6,000 yards rushing, 60 touchdowns.
Jeremy Fowler
Pretty good.
Paulie
Yeah. 230 catches. He's like, not famous. Really good running back.
Todd
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
Good for him. All right. And good for the Texans. Now they just need an offensive line.
Paulie
Don't tell David Montgomery that.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, that'd be my first question. Hey, how's the offensive line? Because I'm leaving a pretty good offensive line in Detroit. Have you seen that video when Penne Sewell and Aaron Donald are going at each other, grabbing each other's face mask, and it's one of those where you go, I don't know who I'd pick here because Aaron Donald strikes me as, you know, lowered to the ground. Wrestler Penny Soul is just a big man, but you're seeing these two guys grabbing onto each other's face mask, and I'm going, man, do I take the low guy? Usually, yeah.
Paulie
Leverage guy?
Dan Patrick
Yeah, yeah. But if I gave you the first pick, I'm okay with, you know, who I get left with. If you said, well, you're gonna have to. You're gonna be saddled with Penny Soul. Right. I'll see what I can do. All right. Do we have a new poll question for hour two? We will talk to the NFL reporter, Jeremy Fowler, ESPN senior NFL reporter. He'll join us. Coming up a little bit. All right. Seaton.
Jeremy Fowler
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
I'm trying to land on if the combine is important for some players. All players or really nobody? I'd say some players because you got a lot of emotional reaction by players who got the opportunity to just be there on the same field as these other players from bigger schools. I think it's really important for those players because now you get a national platform and I think to be able to showcase your talents, I think that's essential for you to be able to make a roster there. I think it can hurt players who are from big schools and they're not as fast or strong, agile as maybe we thought they were by comparison to other players. But for the most part, the combine accomplishes what I think it's supposed to, and that is get everybody together. Certain drills, certain things that you evaluate and put extra value on. But it's, you know, it's pro football's convention, and you're. You're going there. You just hope that your team doesn't go crazy on what the results are on three days in Indy, as opposed to four months of Saturdays. But the medicals are really important. Probably the number one thing, because you want to see somebody actually, you know, six one instead of, you know, five, five, ten and a half. And that's usually what happens, is somebody comes in and they got their program height, and you're like, oh, righty. Diego Pavia. Are you five, nine? Are you five seven? Yes, Marvin.
Todd
And I think for teams, you don't want to get tricked and draft the better athlete and not the better football player.
Dan Patrick
Yes, that's a great point because we've seen the better athlete who gets drafted. And it's because based off of what happened at the combine every single year, and then somebody is going to get, you know, these teams. Amazing how much time you put into these players and, you know, the draft, your scouts, and then all of a sudden you get to the, you know, the actual draft itself, and then you make this spontaneous decision, or the owner comes in and goes, no, we're taking him. Wait, what? I want him. Okay. And then it doesn't pan out. And then all of a sudden the fingers of blame are, you know, moving around the room later.
Paulie
Yes, Paulie, I went back to that 2017 draft. John Ross out of Washington. He was crazy at the combine with his 40 numbers. He was drafted 9th overall by Cincinnati right after him. Mahomes Marshawn, Lattimore, Deshaun Watson, Hassan Redick. All quality or great NFL players.
Dan Patrick
And I remember watching John Ross at Washington, and I thought, there's nobody who can stay with him. I just didn't. I mean, I found out later, you know, he. He was just really fast. He was not a great football player. But you can be fast in college and get away with it in the NFL now you got to be able to run some routes. Can you catch it in traffic? You know, when guys are going to pound you here college, it's open. NFL open for about that. That amount of time. Yes. Marv.
Todd
Another guy that made we fault. We have may fallen for the banana in the tailpipe. Darius Hayward Bay.
Dan Patrick
Yes. Out of Maryland.
Todd
He was a Burner.
Dan Patrick
I know, I know. That's a good call. David in Ohio. Hi, David. What's on your mind, David? Sorry, David. Sam in la. Hi, Sam. What's on your mind today?
Caller
Hey, good morning, Dan and the Dan Patrick team. You guys are wonderful. I've been trying to reach you since you ended your interview with Robert Ori. I just wanted to say you took that to a level that was Emmy worthy when you broached the question, tell us about your daughter. As I was driving out here, we just brought, you know, made my eyes water. And I think, you know what, that was an Emmy worthy moment that you went to a level that most guys probably wouldn't have asked. And I just wanted to say thank you for that.
Dan Patrick
Well, thank you, Sam. Thank you for the, the compliment. And, you know, the more I look at his career, the more I look at it and say, you're a Hall of Famer. He is. We get caught up in numbers. But I want to know when you get your numbers. I mean, that's when you talk about the history of the NBA. Robert, or is he's prominently featured. You're on three different great franchises. But I gotta look at you in the postseason. We put so much emphasis on the postseason. Your nickname's Big Shot Bob and you have proof and you played and won titles. And he was a really good player at Alabama. And yes, he was a role player in the NBA. But if I'm looking at Manu Ginobili and I'm looking at Robert Ori, Manu didn't start very often, but I think he's a Hall of Famer. He's one of my favorite players to watch because I kept thinking he was so far ahead of everybody else with Euro Step, he was going left every single time. And you still couldn't stop him even if you were playing him to his left. But Robert, always a Hall of Famer, I really believe that. And you know, he talked about having health insurance for, you know, minorities, inner city, and he talked about his daughter passing away at the age of 19 and 17. Was that right, Marvin? 17. And you're just like, you know, that's a, that's a heavy thing that you're going to carry with you the rest of your life. You never get over it. You just try to put things on top of it, but it eventually comes back. But I appreciated him sharing. I mean, that's. These interviews aren't good unless they share. If Bo Jackson doesn't come on and say, hey, I've never told anybody, but I Just got through prostate cancer surgery. It's a great interview because he's telling us. I didn't know he was going to tell me, but that's what makes it great. Somebody on the other end has got to be willing to be vulnerable to share. All right, we'll take a break. I'll try to make Jeremy Fowler cry. VSPN somehow. What do you think, Todd?
Todd
Give it a shot. Gets very emotional with the combine this time of the year, so it shouldn't take too much for you to bring that out of him.
Dan Patrick
Well, I did survive a fire earlier today.
Todd
You did?
Dan Patrick
Yeah. So I'm kind of in an emotional mood here since the. The candle that I had my incense burning in caught on fire and it. It shattered. I have PTSD from the incident. Yes.
Todd
You're pulling it. You pulled it together and you're getting through it. We're very proud of you for that.
Dan Patrick
But you ran out of the building where everybody.
Todd

I hate fame. I hate the word celebrity. I hate those words. They make me uncomfortable. But I think when you get to a certain point, the fame or the success or the influence, it just accentuates and exacerbates the inherent person that you are. More phone calls coming up. People are sending me a list of all the players who had 40 yard dashes in the four fives. It's a long list there. It's not a death sentence to have a 4 5, but you know, Carnell Tate I think people thought was going to run a sub four five, and it's kind of a pedestrian four five, two or three. But he's still a great player. I got to put a little more emphasis on what happened on Saturdays instead of a Saturday at the combine. Jeremy Fowler, the Mothership ESPN senior NFL reporter David Montgomery traded from the Lions to the Texans. Your thoughts on that? And then what's that mean for Joe Mixon?
Jeremy Fowler
Yeah, Dan, David Montgomery's trade market might as well have had a trade me sign at the NFL combine because teams had the full expectation that he would welcome a change of scenery. That with Jameer GIBBS Being the one in Detroit, Montgomery felt like at age 28, still had some miles left and he had a good market because he's only$6 million. So Houston gave up a lot to get him a fourth and a seventh round pick, which is a little rich. But GM Nick Casario is one of the most aggressive in the league. He will do a trade like that and get ahead of it and just take the guesswork out, even if it means giving up more than maybe he would have wanted. So that certainly helps. Montgomery will go into Houston as the number one back. I think that's pretty clear at this point. They have Woody Marks, a young player, and that leaves a big question mark for Joe Mixon, who is a cap casualty candidate anyways. So I believe that that marriage is probably over at this point, barring a surprise. You know, certainly they loved mixing last year, so maybe there's a chance he can come back healthy this year. But it seems like the writing's on the wall with this Montgomery trade.
Dan Patrick
Does C.J. strong get a contract extension before this New season.
Jeremy Fowler
You know what? I actually think there's a trend that could be brewing and this will be an interesting case study for that. Do teams pay quarterbacks the huge money, even if that quarterback is not a top tier guy? Right. Like we saw it with TUA two years ago. Jared Goff, Trevor Lawrence, Jordan Love, all those guys were kind of outside of the top 10. They all got paid. It worked out for some. It didn't work out for Miami and Tua, where they're now stuck with $54 million in guaranteed money. I think the teams are going to rethin think that process, that they don't have a guy who's at the top shelf. If they have a guy who's in the middle shelf, they might wait a year, make improve it in that fourth year. So, you know, Houston has made clear they want C.J. stroud to be their quarterback in 2026. What that financial commitment looks like is still unknown. And I'm not wholly convinced that they're going to do it. I think they could kind of wait this out a little bit and see what he does, continue to build the team around him. Now, I do believe Stroud is not just looking for the most massive number you can think of. He doesn't want to suppress his own market, but he does know that they got to pay Will Anderson, the pass rusher. They got to pay some other pieces. They got to build a winner around him. I think he values being in Houston, doesn't want to cripple them long term as well. So maybe because of that, there's a sweet spot deal that they can do in the short term that makes sense for both sides. But I just think by and large, teams are going to start to wait. I mean, Dan, you know, you've seen there are eight or nine quarterbacks out there in the last few years of guys that were not very good coming out, got benched, reset, and now they're good options. So you, you're not beholden to the draft pick that you selected who's maybe like good and not great. Like, you can wait a little bit. You can find a Daniel Jones or Baker Mayfield if you need to. You know, just because you don't want to pay the guy you have right now?
Dan Patrick
Kyla, Murray's market. Are the Cardinals on the hook for how much?
Jeremy Fowler
So they're on the hook for. They've already paid or locked into some guarantees. I think it's 18 million somewhere around there. He's got another big trigger coming up, I believe the fifth day of the new league year. So think mid March is an artificial deadline. I think it's close to 20 million. It's a pretty big number they'd be on the hook for if they let him stay on the roster through say March 15th or whatever that date is. So that's an artificial deadline that they are going to move on. It would be a shock if they kept him on that number. So if you cut them, that does open up a situation where a team, because of the guarantees he's already been paid can get him on a cheap contract. Potentially he's going to have value. You know, Minnesota, I know, is considering Kyler Murray. He's one of their stronger considerations, I would say, along with Geno Smith. That's probably tier one for them. You know, maybe they look into the Derek Carr situation, but I haven't heard anything strong there that teams are in that market right now. Tua would probably be more of a backup second tier option for them. So all these guys want to go to Minnesota, Dan, because it's a great environment. You got Kevin o', Connell, you got Justin Jefferson, you got some pieces to work with. That is a hot team right now for the quarterback market. Even though they don't have a lot of money to spend. They have all these quarterbacks that are probably getting cut that are cheap because of the offset language and the guarantees they already have.
Dan Patrick
Is J.J. mcCarthy going to get cut?
Jeremy Fowler
I would be surprised if he gets cut. It's a similar situation to Anthony Richardson last year. I think in a perfect world they would like to bring somebody on. But like if you bring on Geno Smith, let's say. Right. But why I think he's interesting to Minnesota is because, you know, he's had enough struggles where if you bring him in and sell him as a competitor to jj, you can kind of sell it, but you can also sell it as. Yeah, he's probably the starter. So you're hedging both ways and you can keep it alive with JJ a little bit and maybe he surprises you in camp, but you know, we've all been there, Dan. It's kind of like when you get broken up with where somebody starts seeing other people. Like when they do that, it's kind of clear it's probably over. So there's that element to the J.J. mcCarthy situation as well. Similarly, Anthony Richardson with Daniel Jones, when they signed Daniel Jones, they were probably going to start him. They were going to have a competition in camp and maybe see if Richardson can play him out. But they sort of knew where it was going, I think this is a similar situation in Minnesota. They know where this is headed, but they'll leave a little wiggle room for JJ to maybe surprise them.
Dan Patrick
Talking to Jeremy Fowler Mothership ESPN Senior NFL Reporter if the Steelers don't have Aaron Rodgers, what is plan B?
Jeremy Fowler
Right now I would say plan B is Will Howard, who's a six round pick. You know, he, that wouldn't be the flashy option. But they, you know, just talking to people there, they really do like him a lot. You know, he's great in the huddle, in the locker room, he's great with teammates. He's acquitted himself well. They felt like Aaron Rodgers did a really good job mentoring him last year, that he might just be ready to play. Now. The flip side of that is they've done a lot of homework on this draft dating back to really two years ago. They've been kind of loading up for this draft class to potentially take a quarterback. Now it's not as strong as people thought it was probably going to be. Six months ago when you had all those names that, you know, whether it's Drew out or Penn State or three or four of them that you thought were going to be in the mix in the first round, it just didn't work out. So that's the crapshoot of the draft. But they, they've done a lot of homework where if they took one this year, it would not shock me and maybe it's somewhere high. Maybe it's Ty Simpson in the late first or they can find a way to get him in the second. Or Garrett Nussmeier. Day two Like I, I do think they've looked long and hard at those type of options.
Dan Patrick
The jets situation, what did they do at quarterback?
Jeremy Fowler
So for playing musical chairs, Dan, they're probably going to get the last chair. Like whoever's, whoever's left the jets are going to get.
Dan Patrick
Why nobody wants to play there.
Jeremy Fowler
I mean, unless they're willing to just overpay. You have to overpay in New York to get the guy you want. No, nobody wants to play there. I shouldn't say nobody, but it's not an attractive spot for these quarterbacks. Like I mentioned Minnesota, you know, I would say Arizona and Miami are both probably slightly more attractive than the jets right now. I would say that. And the view of these quarterbacks or people in the market. Now, the jets offer Garrett Wilson, they have a pretty good offensive line. Breeze hall, they're probably going to tag him. So you do have some pieces there. They got a Ton of first round picks in the next two drafts. Darren Muji, the GM has set that up with trades, so, you know, you might have something. But they got Justin Fields. He's still in the books for 10 million in guarantees. You know, they very well could just kind of bite that bullet, cut them and move on. I just think they'll end up getting, you know, one of those bridge options. Maybe it's Jacoby Brissette in Arizona. They can trade him. It could be somebody like that. I just don't think they're going to get the top, top option.
Dan Patrick
Can somebod build a bridge and name it the, you know, Jacoby Brissette Bridge?
Jeremy Fowler
Like the Brissette Bridge? Yeah.
Dan Patrick
Yes. I mean, they should. After all these years he's been a bridge quarterback. I mean, there's Teddy Bridgewater, but you know, it's like it's Jacoby Bridgewater. Kirk Cousins gonna have a home.
Jeremy Fowler
I think there's a chance of that. I think he's gonna have to wait a little bit. I, I don't sense he's in that top tier guys that's going to get a job right off the bat. I think he'd be a backup or a third option for Minnesota. Backup as in, I mean, like who they want to sign as their bridge.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Jeremy Fowler
You know, I think he's sort of in that group with TUA in that second tier for Minnesota, for example. But I, I don't, I don't think there's going to be movement on him heavy out of the gate now. He's got to be released by Atlanta. That will happen at the new league year next week and then you go from there. He's played well enough to get a job somewhere, but there's not a clear path right now that I'm hearing. I think he could just strategically wait a little bit and look, he's got this TV situation in his back pocket. You know, he kind of did a trial basis during a season. Did pretty well. You know, he's good talking football. Like he kind of has that as an option. I think he still wants to play, but certainly he's intrigued by that, that side of things on the broadcast media side.
Dan Patrick
What about my guy, Malik Willis?
Jeremy Fowler
Malik Willis is going to get, he's going to get a nice contract. He's going to get paid. Some of the numbers that have been floated out there several times last week, 30 plus million dollars. I would shoot that down. I've talked to a dozen teams about it. They don't have them in the 30 million dollar range. They have him in that $20 million bucket, maybe 25. So I think that's a sweet spot. Unless things get crazy and he's just got three teams that have to have them. Miami's definitely in. Arizona might very well be in, but they also might go Jimmy Garoppolo. Another bridge option for you, Dan. And then the third one would be, I mean, you know, like maybe the jets won't overpay there, but Pittsburgh is not an option. I don't sense that right now.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Jeremy Fowler
Cleveland as well. I don't think Cleveland's an option. Malik Wallace's agent is David Mulagueda, who has DeSean Watson, who has a chance to start in Cleveland. I would be shocked if that.
Dan Patrick
Do you think that's a legitimate shot that Deshaun Watson's the starting quarterback this upcoming season?
Jeremy Fowler
I think it's a shot. I don't know if I'm going to say legitimate shot yet. I do believe it's. It will be on the table. I was told they're going to let those guys compete and roll.
Dan Patrick
But if he's healthy though, he should be the starting quarterback.
Jeremy Fowler
Well, and I would say people close to desean would tell you that the Kevin Stefanski, Deshaun Watson fit just. It didn't work and it probably wasn't the offense where he's been best. You know, that Gary Kubiak wide zone system where it's a lot under center in the play action. Todd Monken system will be better for Deshaun Watson. It's more what he's used to. Todd Monkin is sort of a chameleon. You know, he can change his offense a lot of different ways, but he can appeal to the guy who was really good in college and did some spread offense concepts like that's desean. So the feeling is like, hey, look, let's try this. Maybe he's got this last year left on his deal. We owe him $46 million. Nobody's going to take him. So let's just see how it goes and roll the ball out and see if Shador Sanders or Dylan Gabriel can beat him out.
Dan Patrick
The Raiders situation. So you take Fernando Mendoza.
Jeremy Fowler
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
I don't assume he's going to start the season as the number one quarterback unless you hear otherwise. But I think they gotta beef up that team a little bit. Certainly the offensive line, who is the backup or maybe who's going to be the starting quarterback with the Raiders?
Jeremy Fowler
Well, that's a big piece to all this, Dan, because you have geno Smith, who could find a home as a starter elsewhere. Still, you know, last year wasn't all his fault. It was a really bad team. And so I think what's happening here is if you're Geno, you're saying, okay, if I stay here, I'll probably start. But we're still bad. And I'm playing eight games that I'm going to get benched and then my career is cratered. Where can they just trade or release me here and I can get out and go to a Minnesota or a Miami or somewhere to just reset my career again, which he's done multiple times. And you know, to his credit, he's become a Pro Bowler, you know, a couple years ago in Seattle. So that's the sense right now. I'd be surprised if he's on the roster in Vegas. I think what they'll do is they'll draft Mendoza and they'll get a steady veteran somewhere, whether it's Aiden o' Connell who's there or it's somebody else, you know, somebody who can kind of half mentor, half play games and just get Mendoza out there when he's ready, you know, whether that's week one or week 12 or next year. But they're trying to play the long game there with everything they know they need a lot of they're going to be active in free agency because they have to. They got $100 million to spend. They're going to get a guard or a center and a receiver and a linebacker. Like they have a lot of holes and it's going to take two years to film.
Dan Patrick
Great stuff as always. Thank you, Jeremy.
Jeremy Fowler
Thanks, Dan. Appreciate it.
Dan Patrick
That's Jeremy Fowler of the Mothership, ESPN senior NFL reporter. Yeah, there's a whole lot going on in the off season. I just don't remember this many teams with their quarterbacking position in this kind of a state of flux. Remarkable. A couple of phone calls here, Mike in Illinois. Mike, thanks for holding. What's on your mind today?
Caller
Oh, Dan, great to be with you. First time caller, longtime listener, 6 foot 210. Dan, I was sorry to hear about the fire, but I'm glad everything was handled quickly and I'm glad there was a no long term damage. But I got to tell you that's the reason I'm calling. When you told that story, the first thing that immediately popped into my head and need you to kind of compare the similarities. I couldn't help but immediately think about the Seinfeld episode where George Cassandra's girlfriend had a birthday party for her son. And George, well, upon seeing that fire, he barreled through the. Through the apartment to the front door, knocking over women and children, even old ladies and walkers, until the fire was put out by Eric the clown. Any similarity. Thanks for listening.
Dan Patrick
All right, well, thank you. Thank you, Mike. Yeah, absolutely. If there would have been older people, children, you would have knocked them out of the way to get out of the building.
Todd
Someone tweeted that clip to me a little while ago, I think to all of us, probably. I know I saw it, and that's exactly what it's referring to. Just whoever was in the way, it doesn't matter who just knocked him over.
Dan Patrick
But once again, everything is good. We had a fire in the building, actually, in my office. I was burning some incense. I didn't blow out the incense. It burned down. It shattered a candle. We had flames. We had the alarm going off. The fire department called. The big German raced in. He had an ax with him. He was ready to. You know, they always have an ax with them. Like, dude, you could just open the door. You don't have to chop it down.
Jeremy Fowler
Just.
Dan Patrick
Just open that handle. Yeah, yeah. Helmet on, his jacket on. And he. I just said, oh, you can open the door. You don't have to, like, take an axe to it. But he did it for, you know, the content. Yes. Todd.
Todd
He's always got an ax to grind.
Dan Patrick
A little attitude. You did all right. Thank you, Tony in California. Good morning, Tony. What's on your mind today?
Caller
Hey, good morning, guys. I just have all compliments today. I really think you guys should win a sports Emmy.
Todd
If you.
Caller
If you guys can do a show
Dan Patrick
and make people bust out crying and
Caller
bust out laughing in the same show, you deserve Amy.
Dan Patrick
Thank you, Tom. Yeah, this would be for the following year. So we had to. There was a deadline, I don't know, a couple of weeks ago where we had to submit our Emmy reel. And Mario, the eyes and ears of the show, the director, he put it all together, and then we send it in. I think we get five different segments from the show, and then we send it in. Anything that happened after that, that would be for the following year for the sports semi. Yes, Paulie.
Paulie
So the cutoff is super bowl week. So this super bowl that we just did in San Francisco goes on next year's tab.
Dan Patrick
Ah, okay. Yes.
Todd
Todd, are we laying the groundwork by starting a fire and heading next to your sports Emmy is an accident?
Dan Patrick
I did not do it on purpose. I did not. But if it somehow leads to a sports Emmy, then Could spark something. Yeah, I'd like to douse you. How about we take a break? Last call for phone calls. I'm Nancy Glass, host of the Burden of Guilt Season two podcast. This is a story about a horrendous lie that destroyed two families. Late one night, Bobby Gumprite became the victim of a random crime.
Jeremy Fowler
He pulls the gun, tells me to lie down on the ground.
Nancy Glass
He identified Jermaine Hudson as the perpetrator. Jermaine was sentenced to 99 years.
Todd
I'm like, lord, this can't be real.
Dan Patrick
I thought it was a mistaken identity.
Jeremy Fowler
The best lie is partial truth.

For 22 years, only two people knew the truth. Until a confession changed everything.

I now have several terabytes of an MSS officer, no doubt, no question of his life. And that's a unicorn. No one had ever seen anything like that. It was unbelievable. This is a story of the inner

Luke Combs
I hate fame. I hate the word celebrity. I hate those words. They make me uncomfortable. But I think when you get to a certain point, the fame or the success or the influence, it just accentuates and exacerbates the inherent person that you are. The guy that says he's always going to be there and that will do anything to be there is the only guy that's not there. I'm in Australia when Beau is born. My whole identity is that that no matter what, I'm gonna prioritize my wife and my children over my job. I dread the conversation with my son.

We had a close call earlier, but everything's good. I think the smoke is out of my side of the room and fire alarm hasn't gone off. Have you guys checked, like, NBC or CNN or cbs, see if it made those morning shows?
Paulie
Yeah, it's not all of them, is it?
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Because I'm not available for a statement until, I don't know, another 15 minutes. Breaking into their Iran coverage for this.
Jeremy Fowler
They are.
Dan Patrick
They're like, we'll get back to the Middle East. But first, first, breaking news out of Milford, Connecticut. Okay. All right. It was scary, you know, saw my life flash before my eyes. And I also saw Fritzi flash before my eyes, running out of the building while everybody came over to see and help.
Todd
I can move pretty quick when I have
Paulie
a flash.
Dan Patrick
Ross Tucker tomorrow. Reggie Miller tomorrow. In fact, if your first name begins with an R, you're going to be on the show. Roger Bennett, men in blazers will join us. He's got a book coming out. Got World Cup. Always great to talk to. Roger.
Todd
Three hours reading, writing.
Jeremy Fowler
Todd.
Todd
Oh, I stepped on you a little bit there. You're not going to call me into the office after this Just because of that. I don't know.
Dan Patrick
Todd, can I see you for a minute? I like this. Reading, writing, arithmetic as the three Rs.
Todd
Reading, writing, arithmetic.
Dan Patrick
As if writing is. He got a second?
Todd
Oh, no.
Dan Patrick
Arithmetic. Yeah. Thank you, Todd.
Todd
Not very bright. Anybody could memorize stuff and spit it onto an essay.
Dan Patrick
I know. I found that out.
Todd
I'm telling all of you. It's all you know, because you could take good tests and you could bull crap your way through essays. That doesn't mean anything. You put me in the middle of the street somewhere, I'm totally lost.
Dan Patrick
Oh, I agree with that. Like you do not have street smarts.
Todd
I don't. And I grew up in New York. You think I would have picked that up along the way somewhere? On the trail, in the subways and things like that?
Dan Patrick
No. You were with your mom.
Todd
Yeah. She was very overprotective.
Dan Patrick
You didn't grow up in the streets.
Todd
I'm gonna make out with my friend now. We don't need cookies or pizza. Mom, go in the other room.
Paulie
My friend.
Dan Patrick
Who was your friend that you were making out with?
Todd
Oh, I had a couple of friends, but they didn't last very long. It's like, I can't keep coming to your apartment with your mom there. So if you want to hang out, I'll just meet you down at the beach or the park.
Dan Patrick
Tommy in Wisconsin. There you go. Hi, Tommy. What's on your mind?
Caller
Six foot a soft, two bills.
Jeremy Fowler
The.
Caller
The poll question. Which month is better for sports, March or October? I'm gonna have to go with October. Not just for the sports, but the first week in. October is fire prevention week, so it gotta be October. And as the big German with all his firefighting experience. Aren't you supposed to touch the door handle before you fling open a door? I'm not a fire, but I have seen Backdraft.
Dan Patrick
Okay. Thank you, Tommy. Well, it wasn't the door that leads to my studio that was warm. It would have been the one in the back. But the big German is a firefighter and he came in. I thought it was a little overly dramatic, but, you know, he still came in and was protecting everybody. He was like, stop, drop and roll. I think. Was that what he was yelling out? Yes, Paul.
Paulie
He busted up a few cars outside, hooked up to the hose, you know.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, yeah. Let's see. So I mentioned Tuesday's show. How about this day in sports history?
Paulie
Just a couple. 2004, Peyton Manning got his big new deal from the Colts. Seven years, $98 million. The most ever at that time.
Dan Patrick
I think he went I don't know how many years without talking to me after he signed that because I had him on SportsCenter and I said, did you think about taking less money so you could make sure that Edron James and maybe Marvin Harrison could be resigned? Oh, no. Like Tom did. Go ahead, Todd.
Todd
We're talking. Tom. I didn't raise my hand. I would have stopped talking to you, too, for a while if he put me on the spot.
Dan Patrick
Yes.
Paulie
Seaton.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Like Tom did, I think was the part of that question, you know, how, like, Brady's been reorganizing his kind. Are you going to do that? Yeah. That didn't go well. Oh, now you're going to raise your hand.
Todd
That's supposed to count other people's money, right? I thought, that's not like a thing. But you put them on the spot with that.
Dan Patrick
I. I was trying to see if he could keep his roster in.
Todd
It was a great question. You had the courage to ask something like that.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, yeah. He went like three or four years without talking to me. I'm a journalist. Yes.
Todd
He should have asked you. Would you have taken less money so Keith Olberman and Stuart Scott could stay on asking somebody to take less money?
Dan Patrick
I did.
Todd
You did you?
Dan Patrick
Yes. Yeah. Half. Yeah. Yes.
Paulie
Paul, I think the next time we had Peyton on is when we joined DirecTV and he joined DirecTV for this big promotion. And when he came on, it was lightly awkward at first and then all was well.
Dan Patrick
Hey, Peyton. Hey, Dan. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You gotta ask questions. You know Josh in Texas. Hi, Josh. What's on your mind?
Caller
Hey, good morning. Third time, long time. 59195. The fire alarm reminded me of the greatest episode of the Office where Dwight gave Stanley a heart attack. Best and the worst of the weekend. Best. My Red Raiders getting away from the discouraging rims of the United Spirit arena in Lubbock, pull off a huge upset at Iowa State. Yeah, I think Grant McCaslin should be national Coach of the Year candidate. And Christian Anderson might be the best point guard in the country. Might be a lottery pick. And then worse, definitely Chad Baker Mazar getting cut. Like Marvin mentioned, he's 26 years old. Did you guys see who was in his recruiting class? Anyway, appreciate you guys. Hope you all have a great week.
Dan Patrick
Okay, you fill in the gray area there, Marvin.
Todd
No, I just know he's 26. I don't know who was in his recruiting class, though. I wish the caller would have told us.
Dan Patrick
Well, Josh, you still There.
Caller
Yeah, I'm here.
Dan Patrick
Who was.
Caller
I got it right here.
Dan Patrick
Who was in his recruiting class?
Caller
Cade Cunningham, I believe was. Was the number one recruit in that class. Hold on. Jalen Green, Evan Mobley, Jonathan Kaminga. Just a couple there.
Dan Patrick
All right, thank you, Josh. Jonathan Kaminga coming out. Party for him. Now all of a sudden, we're like, what's. What was the beef there? Steve Kerr, Mike in Florida. Hi, Mike. What's on your mind? Hey, guys, how you doing?
Caller
6, 4, 2, 15.
Jeremy Fowler
All right.
Caller
So the best of the weekend was myself having three birdies on Saturday and breaking 80 for the first time ever.
Dan Patrick
I was very happy about that. That's nice. Good for you, Mike.
Caller
And the.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Caller
With a solid 79, Dan.
Dan Patrick
Thanks, buddy. That's breaking 80.
Caller
It is, man. My worst of the weekend was actually on Friday. It has to do with Todd and the Todd cast. I mean, I can't still wrap my head around that snippet you guys had. And I can't unhear that. I don't know what happened, but I was, like, in awe on Friday morning going, what is he talking about?
Dan Patrick
Well, I do that pretty much every day with Todd, but that one was. That was revealing. Yes, Todd.
Todd
I don't know why that has to be worst of the weekend. It could be awkward or uncomfortable or. What did he mean? How much of that is real? What was embellishment? Why does it have to fall into the worst of the weekend, though?
Dan Patrick
I just think it kind of. He can't get it out of his mind with you with another guy and you're playing video games and then all of a sudden, you know what? You got to get past touching each other. Yes. How much of that was real, Todd? Since he asked the question, I'm going
Todd
to talk to my attorney and see what he wants me to answer. As far as to go further with
Dan Patrick
the topic, we're trying to give you the benefit of the doubt here, Todd. You're not doing it. How much of it was embellished?
Todd
Sometimes, you know, sometimes you exaggerate a little bit. Sometimes certain things you know are in reality. Sometimes things are better left unsaid.
Paulie
That clears that up.
Dan Patrick
So are you telling the truth then or now? A lot of fun. Thanks for joining us. Thanks for the emails, tweets, phone calls for Fritzi Seaton, Marv Polyures, truly. Have a great day, everybody.
