Also, Marvin, Paulie, yours truly, the back room guys as well. It's the cup. Make no mistake about it, Todd. It is the cup.
Jordan
It really is.
Unknown Sports Announcer
Yes, it is. Bucks, Thunder tonight. It's the title game. It's the cup. Todd. Todd just keeps walking around. He gets in here early in the morning. He just keeps going. It's the cup because it's the cop. Bucks Thunder tonight. Abc. That's a different, that's, that's, that's football. The cup coming up tonight. No bad ideas Tuesday, how to help the NBA. I don't want to say fix the NBA because you might say, well, what's wrong with it? Ratings are in a, you know, not a sharp decline, but there's been a decline in the last 10 years and I think this year as well, something like 28% ratings decline on the mothership. And now you have the cup. Normally the NBA season starts Christmas day and now the NFL kind of comes in and says, you know what, I think we're going to take Christmas as well. We'll share this with you. Used to be standalone for three games for the NBA. Now they don't even get that. Yes, Marvin.
Jordan
And also for the halftime show for both of the games, one halftime performers, Beyonce. The other halftime performers, Mariah Carey. They were like, so just in case we're not beating you over the heads. Bad enough.
Unknown Sports Announcer
That's good.
Jordan
They were like your husbands, your wives that don't like football. They're going to watch this.
Unknown Sports Announcer
That's a good point. Stat of the day is always brought to you by Panini America, the official trading cards of the program. We'll talk to Greg Olson, NFL and Fox analyst. He'll stop by asking which franchise is in the worst shape. And you could throw the Bears in there and you could throw the Raiders. After last night, the Bears 4 and 10. The Raiders are 2 and 12. But the Falcons did stay alive. They're 7 and 7. And the Vikings now go to 12 and 2. How threatening are the Vikings? Feels like we keep asking this week in and week out and it seems to hinge on Sam Darnold's performance because you have the best receiver in the game in Justin Jefferson. You got a really good head coach who's going to win coach of the year. Aaron Jones, you got Jordan Addison. You got a very underrated defense. Brian Flores has done a great job as defensive coordinator there. Feels like the Lions are vulnerable. And if you have home field advantage, if you're going to play the packers, you know that be a big advantage for the Vikings there. But it feels like the Lions suddenly are vulnerable with all these injuries. The Vikings right there in front of us, we just refuse to acknowledge them. It's like if you're a teacher and you got the kid in the front of the class who's always waving his hand because he has the right answer. And the teacher acts like can't see him because he keeps answering every question. Now, granted, that was never me. I was always in the back, but it'd be like anybody. They got 12 wins. I don't know how threatening they are. On a scale of one to ten, Todd, how threatening are the Vikings?
Jordan
Seven and a half. Based on the fact that I think the Lions and Eagles are more dangerous as far as how deep they're gonna go.
Unknown Sports Announcer
Marvin. 1 to 10.
Jordan
8.
Unknown Sports Announcer
Paul.
Paulie
8.2. What now, what does 8.2 mean?
Unknown Sports Announcer
I don't know what that means.
Paulie
How about if you go over eight, you could see them in the Super Bowl.
Unknown Sports Announcer
Oh, oh, oh.
Jordan
Then 7.9.
Unknown Sports Announcer
Okay. Yeah, I don't see them in the Super Bowl.
Paulie
I'm gonna play a little game with here. Bonus game.
Dan Patrick
Do the.
Paulie
Let's say the Rams made the playoffs and the Vikings made the playoffs. Are they similar in odds, do you think, or belief?
Unknown Sports Announcer
Faith. Well, I got a quarterback who won a Super Bowl. I got a coach who won a Super Bowl. I got two really good wide receivers. Now, granted, Minnesota's wide receivers equal.
Paulie
I think you're fairly saying that you'd believe in the Rams a little.
Unknown Sports Announcer
I might.
Paulie
The Rams have been outscored by 28 points on the season. The Vikings have outscored their opponents by 107 points.
Unknown Sports Announcer
I get it. I get it. But one game, I'm gonna go 7.8 and a half. I don't think they can get to the Super Bowl. I don't think so. Yes, Marv.
Jordan
Now, if they get to the divisional round, what decision do you make regarding Sam Darnold? Like, say if they lose to the Eagles by six points.
Unknown Sports Announcer
Okay. If they win a playoff game, is Sam Darnold back? Doesn't he have to be back? And do you franchise him or do you give him a three year deal? Three years for 123. For 120. 60 million guaranteed. How's that?
Jordan
I'll take it.
Unknown Sports Announcer
Yeah. Oh, you will? Okay. Yes. Yes.
Jordan
Todd, what if the Vikings do in one playoff game but had nothing to do with Darnold? He had a bad game, they got a pick six, they recovered a fumble in the end zone. There was a safety, had nothing to do with it.
Unknown Sports Announcer
So kind of like Kirk D. Cousins last night. Fifteen to nine, and he's got one touchdown pass. Nine picks in five games. Last five games. But it certainly sounds like his coach is going to stay with him. Here is Raheem Morris, the Falcons coach, after the win. Can you assess Kurt's play tonight and where you're at? I know you guys got the dub, but in terms of him as the.
Jordan
Starting quarterback moving forward, he's got to play better. And, you know, obviously you got to go back, gotta be a look at everything, but, you know, he wants to play better, he's got to play better. We got to find a way to get him to play better. And obviously we'll get to work tomorrow. And that's a part of our process, right? You go, you look at the tape, you review with the people that needs to be reviewed with. You know, we get all the coordinators in the room, we'll talk with everybody, and we got to play better at the quarterback position.
Unknown Sports Announcer
Okay. That's about 22 seconds of nothing. Feels like he's been saying that every week for the last like five weeks. Bill Belichick in North Carolina has a $1 million buyout. If he would happen to leave North Carolina, that should be mentioned, should remind people of that because it's only a million dollars. If you're all in on North Carolina, it shouldn't be a million dollar buyout. Here is Bill Belichick being asked about NFL opportunities and do you feel as though you might have had and would.
Dan Patrick
Have had opportunities in the NFL?
Unknown Sports Announcer
You know, that's a hard question to answer, Jim, because ultimately those aren't my decisions. But sure, I think there would have been some interest. But in the end, really, it's not about what there could have been or would have been. It was about the opportunity at North Carolina. And I just think this program is at the right spot now to take off. Chancellor Roberts and the board of trustees have made a strong commitment toward football at North Carolina. And I'm here with Mike Lombardi as our general manager to do all we can to accelerate that process and we're going to get the team make it as competitive as we can as soon as we can. That's Jim Gray asking the question on the let's Go podcast. Coach, why is your buyout only a million dollars? You see this new thing that's happening in college football where if you're a coach and you have a bad season, they're kind of asking you to give money back. This happened with Mike Gundy at Oklahoma State. He agreed to reduce his compensation to keep his job. They went three and nine. So he is going to give up millions of dollars to be redistributed throughout the school to athletes, according to multiple reports. Brian Kelly at lsu, they didn't make the playoffs and he said that he would match the fans donation to the nil collective at LSU up to a million dollars. Mike Norvo, the Florida State head coach, $4.5 million contribution. This comes off as a penalty for being bad, maybe keeping your job. So the college sports pay for play revolution has entered new terrain here. According to USA Today, the Norvo is the third known coach to underperform this season and will bankroll the operation. So giving back to the community here. So that's the new thing going on in college football? Yes, Paul.
Paulie
Remember in the old days a coach would have an off year and they say I'm not going to take a salary this year. Now it's out of your hands.
Dan Patrick
You're going to give it up now.
Unknown Sports Announcer
You take my salary? Yeah. James Franklin, Penn State's head coach who is going to lose his backup quarterback before their game with SMU reportedly had this to say about the transfer portal. At this time of the year, we.
Dan Patrick
Got problems in, in college football and I can, I, I can give you my word. Beau Prabula did not want to leave our program and he did not want to leave our program until the end of the season. But the way the portal is and the timing of it, he felt like he was put in a no win situation and, and I agree with him. I don't think it's in the best interest of the student athlete. I don't think it's in the best interest of college football. But I think that's our challenge right now.
Jordan
Right.
Dan Patrick
Who is really running college football and making the best decisions for the student athletes and for our sport as a whole?
Unknown Sports Announcer
Okay, that's James Franklin, Penn State. Let me just have a small suggestion here. Let's say I get the commissioners for the conferences and maybe I get them together and I say, hey, why don't we talk about transfer portal or maybe on a zoom call, like something crazy, like a zoom call. We get everybody together. Guys, we have to solve this. Let's do it collectively. Get as many commissioners as possible. Because throughout college football, everybody's affected by this. If somebody leaves, then somebody goes. And then somebody leaves that place to go. You know, it's like when a coach gets hired someplace. Somebody takes his place. Somebody takes his place. It's a domino effect. How about we just do them? How about we talk about all of these issues that everybody keeps saying? We got a problem here. Lane Kiffin. We got a problem with it. Yes, you do. Yeah, you got a few problems here. How about you get together. You don't need the ncaa. Let's get together, have a consensus. Maybe we have one rule for everybody. How about that? But you got semesters ending and semesters starting. That's the tricky part of all of this. Kids are going to want to go and transfer and go to a school that's getting ready to start the semester. These coaches at that school taking your player want them to join their program immediately. They don't want to run the risk you get injured in a bowl game.
Jordan
Yes, Marv, Classes are really getting in the way of our college football.
Unknown Sports Announcer
I know. Hey, I got an idea. Okay, what is it? How about no classes for our football players? That'll solve it, right?
Paulie
Some teams already ahead on that one. Somebody started that a decade ago.
Unknown Sports Announcer
That'd be great if you had some coach go. Wait, you guys make them go to class. We don't. Excuse me. Stat of the Day, brought to you by Panini America. The official trading cards of the program. Poll question the results from the first two hours.
Jordan
Todd, which NFL franchise feels like it's in the worst sh? 27 and a half percent Cleveland Browns. 24% Giants. 12 and a half percent Raiders. And then below that becomes Bears, Titans, other Jags, Panthers.
Unknown Sports Announcer
We started the show. I got on my soapbox. We were talking about, you know, taking a chance as a commissioner. Taking a chance. We've seen that. The NFL, they don't. It doesn't matter. But with baseball, we saw Rob Manfred take some chances. And I think baseball had a wonderful year. Ratings were up, certainly in the postseason. The NBA ratings have been on a steady decline. Not crazy numbers, but on a decline. And I said, there's no bad solutions. Suggestions here for the commissioner. Marshall in Charlotte. Marshall, what's your plan? The Marshall plan.
Dan Patrick
Hey, guys, thanks for calling me back 5, 9, a squishy 230.
Unknown Sports Announcer
My proposition, you start the season on Christmas.
Dan Patrick
You have each team play their own conference three times and the other conference two, for a total of 72 games. You see the playoffs one to 16, regardless of conference, and you start them in June, end of an August.
Unknown Sports Announcer
Okay? All right, once again. Now, Todd suggested if you miss a three pointer, you take three points away from that team.
Jordan
How exciting. It's 94, 91 with a minute and a half left. And you shoot at three and you miss instead of going up six.
Unknown Sports Announcer
Hold on, hold on here. What about the Bulls and the Hornets last week? So they missed 75 three pointers. Is it going to be a negative?
Jordan
Absolutely. You have negative 23. Work your way up from the negative. It doesn't just.
Dan Patrick
And stop.
Unknown Sports Announcer
Okay, there were 75 missed threes. Dot. Yes.
Jordan
That's what you get. You know, we could do like a scorecard. Each player, the coach goes a Steph Curry, he's allowed 10 three pointers this game. A Draymond Green, he's allowed three. You're allowed to shoot that many three pointers, and then that's it.
Unknown Sports Announcer
Blake in South Carolina. Hi, Blake.
Jordan
Hey, what's happening, Dan?
Unknown Sports Announcer
How are you? So I was thinking, you know, you always talk about positionless basketball. I don't know if this really solves that, but you just, like, you got to check in, you know, on certain plays down by the goal line or wide receivers are who catches the ball and who can go past the line. There's only two or three designated people who, when they shoot threes, it counts as a three. And then everyone else, you can shoot from wherever you want, but they're the only ones that count as threes from behind the line.
Jordan
And then inside two minutes before halftime.
Unknown Sports Announcer
Or two minutes before the end of the game, then anyone who shoots behind.
Dan Patrick
The arc, it's a three again.
Unknown Sports Announcer
But if you know there's two people, guys, you three, and you got to guard them, maybe that could change it. All right, so a DS instead of a dh Designated shooter. I like that. Michael in Nashville. Hey, Mike. Hey, hey, D.P.
Dan Patrick
Big fan.
Unknown Sports Announcer
5, 8, 1, 5, 5, man. Just kind of spitballing with what that guy said. He had kind of my exact idea for that. But, you know, maybe possibly too.
Dan Patrick
You know, if the big men are going to get upset about not being able to shoot three, maybe have dunks.
Unknown Sports Announcer
Become three points or maybe have alley.
Dan Patrick
Oops become three points, maybe you can.
Unknown Sports Announcer
Incorporate something like that to where the big men get involved. To get more points as well, just so that they're not left out of it. And honestly, it probably would bring the.
Dan Patrick
Big man back into the game, and.
Unknown Sports Announcer
I think it would be a really good thing, I think. Thank you. Well, these, these big men love shooting threes. They love it. It's no fun down on the low post. They want to, they want to handle the ball. They want to shoot threes.
Jordan
Yeah, Marv, how About only players 6, 6 and above can shoot threes? They can't shoot threes.
Unknown Sports Announcer
Oh, can't shoot three.
Jordan
They can't shoot if you're, say if you're six, seven and above.
Unknown Sports Announcer
Wow, that's. That's height. Ism.
Jordan
That is. So that means Klay Thompson can't shoot threes.
Unknown Sports Announcer
Yeah. Well, I don't know. He might be right there.
Jordan
The ds.
Unknown Sports Announcer
Yeah. Yes, yes.
Jordan
You could do a challenge where they measure the player on the spot just to make sure that the proper height.
Unknown Sports Announcer
To that, like there's a ride at Disney World. You must be taller than this to shoot three or shorter than this to shoot threes. Yes, Mark.
Jordan
And you know what? Now there won't be any more program height. It'll be your real height. So, Michael BEASLEY, you're not 610 at Kansas State. And 6 7. When it's time to really measure you.
Unknown Sports Announcer

That's on Netflix with our good buddy Iron Eagle. Kickoff at 4:30 Eastern. Beyonce, by the way, halftime performer Greg joins us now. Do you get to meet Beyonce before, after, during?
Dan Patrick
You know, I think that's a great question. I actually, last time I was involved in a game that Beyonce was also involved in, I lost the super bowl in Santa Clara. She was the halftime show. So I have mixed feelings. Hopefully, hopefully, hopefully the result goes better for me this time.
Unknown Sports Announcer
What's it like when the, there's somebody performing that a lot of people would probably want to go out of the locker room. Did anybody sneak out to see Beyonce perform?
Dan Patrick
Not to my, not to my knowledge. But you know, a couple years ago, you know, when I called the super bowl in Arizona, Rihanna was the halftime show. So I mean the excitement of the crew. So we get ready to go to halftime and all week we're like, you know, it'll be cool. We'll get to watch. Rihanna got great. I mean, we've got the best seat in the house. 50 yard line up in the box. And then like the second to last play or the last series of the second quarter, Mahomes gets rolled up on, he gets his ankle rolled up on, he gets limped in. So the whole halftime now instead of being able to sit down, catch our breath, watch Rihanna for five minutes, we had to scramble and do the whole, oh my gosh, could you imagine if Pat Mahomes doesn't come out for the second half of the Super Bowl? And thankfully he did. So I'm excited to watch Beyonce. I love Beyonce I think it's going to be fun. I think the entire experience is going to be super cool for everyone that's participating. And I know our crew, Noah and I are super, super pumped to get together, work together for the first time and kind of see what happens.
Unknown Sports Announcer
Can you see Mahomes modifying his style? I mean, we've had the ankle injury every year. Almost had a severe knee injury as well, but he's not a runner. I call him an opportunist, but can you see him maybe modifying?
Dan Patrick
You know, I just think at this stage in your career it is so hard to just change your play style. I think, you know, so much of what makes Mahomes so special and so such a generational player is his ability to play off script. Right? It's almost the entire underlying of their entire offense is his ability to extend plays, move in the pocket, remain a passer. To your point, he's not necessarily a scrambler in the sense of I'm looking to, to run with the ball, to convert. He's, he will run, he will pick up first downs, but it's his ability to stress the coverage because he just holds on to the ball so long without getting sacked. And I think that's kind of the, the balance that every team in the league is trying to say. It's one thing to hold the ball, it's one thing to stre coverage, but as you're stressing coverage, you're also stressing protection. So it's finding that balance. That's what makes Mahomes and Josh Allen and now Jaden Daniels and you know, Lamar and just some of those guys are just such a handful because even when you defend everything, you still haven't defended everything. So I just don't know if there is any going back. Injury is part of it. Hopefully he dodged a bullet here with the ankle and you know, obviously his style of play is just incredible.
Unknown Sports Announcer
We have a poll question. Fritzi, would you give Greg the wording on the poll question?
Jordan
Which team right now in the NFL is in the worst shape now and going forward in the near future? And we had the Bears, Jaguars, Browns, Texans, Giants. Where, where are you on that?
Dan Patrick
Yeah, so I think it's combination of, you know, what does the current winning culture look like in the building? Are they doing it multiple years in with the same coaching staff and regime and then where are they in terms of finding their future quarterback? Right, so those are all the things you give first year coaches, you give first year rookie quarterbacks. Like I see what's going on in Chicago. I think that's an example of obviously the season's gone off the rails. Ever since they lost on the Hail Mary to Washington, it feels like things have fallen apart. I think they've lost eight in a row or whatever, but they've got Caleb Williams, they're going to get a new coach in there and a new staff. They've got good pieces in place. So that should be a pretty, you know, that should be a pretty popular destination, I would imagine, in this hiring cycle. But then you look at the Giants and I like Dable. You know, I thought he did an unbelievable job his first year. Making the playoffs, go on the road to Minnesota. I called that game. And they come out with the, with the upset victory. Since then, it's been a bit of a disaster. And, you know, but then you look there and you say not only have they had a culture of losing, they let Daniel Jones go. They don't have their future quarterback on the roster, and now they've got to start all over again. So, you know, as much as I hate to say this because I just love Dable. I love who he is as a guy, as a coach, I think they're pretty far removed from having an ability to, to win. They're in a really tough division. It doesn't look like Phillies going anywhere. Dallas will bounce back. Washington's obviously the surprise team to leave. They've got a tough division, don't have their quarterback, and they're, you know, losing at his store. Great. Other than that, other than that, things are good.
Unknown Sports Announcer
How much coaching is done on an NFL level from the head coach as opposed to coaching in college?
Dan Patrick
I think it's different in every franchise model. So I think you look at the coaches that are also the play call. You know, you look at a team that's having a ton of success. We saw him last night, you know, on national tv on Monday night play, you know, Chicago with, with Kevin O'Connell and the Vikings. So you look at what Kevin O'Connell is doing on a week by week basis, aside from delivering messaging and addressing the team and putting together the plan and keeping the locker room and culture and vision intact. He's also in the, in the weeds of the game plan and he's, you know, on the sideline, he's charting plays and he's formulating his play call and getting his opening script done. So he's part offensive coordinator, part head coach. That's very challenging. Right? That's Andy Reid, that's Kevin O'Connell. That's Sean McVeigh, Kyle Shannon, you know, of those sense. So those guys are in the weeds coaching on a day to day basis. X's and O's and plays. Then there's other coaches where their impact on the team is just as great. They're just not actually the ones on game day calling the plays directly, you know, to the, to the quarterback's headset. But you know, you look at Dan Campbell, he's not necessarily calling the plays. He's got two very good defense and offensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, Ben Johnson, maybe two guys that are going to get head coaching opportunities this cycle, but he's involved in every single thing they do. Talk to him during the week. We can ask about the offensive plan, the defensive plan. He knows both sides of the ball. Like he's actually going to call the plays on Sunday and then of he handles all the game management and the motivation and the speeches before and after the game. So I think every coach is a little bit different as far as what their role is. But the best coaches are the best communicators. The X's and O's and the plays, that stuff will all take care of itself. The best guys are the best communicators. They deliver the message, they put out fires and they galvanize a group. And you know, you look around to the best teams in the league. It's not a coincidence that they also have some of the best leaders, some of the best, you know, messengers. It's a huge part of NFL football.
Unknown Sports Announcer
Talking to Greg Olson, NFL and Fox. He'll be on the call on Christmas Day. The game is on Netflix. It'll be the Ravens and Texans kickoff at 4:30 Eastern. Speaking of these two teams, which one's more threatening come playoff time, Ravens or Texans?
Dan Patrick
It's a good question. I've kind of started diving into them this week just in preparation for, for next week's game. And you know, when you start with Baltimore, obviously, you know, we've seen them do it. MVP Lamar, they add Derrick Henry. I mean that is a, that is a scary group. And I would say when you've played well, you've come out of that game saying that's the best team in the league. And then there's been some other games where you go, okay, like they're good, but can they just put the, you know, pedal down and just dominate somebody? And I think their defense is getting a lot better. I think their defense is much improved. Earlier in the year they had some ups and downs. They've started to string together some Some good performances here of late. So I think as long as you have Lamar, I think Harbaugh is a fantastic coach. I think they have a culture and tation of winning, which again, to our. To your earlier question is so important in this league. Guys expect to win. They expect to show up and have success, and that's very powerful. And then with Houston, I think what's so unique about them is last year, the talk about CJ Stroud and he busted onto the seam as a rookie and he was incredible. They win the division in him and D'Amico Ryan's first year, and everyone's saying, oh my God, he's incredible. This year it's been the defense. I mean, that defense is young. They are good. They can rush the passer. Daniel Hunter, Will Anderson, they've got two really good young corners. Derek Stingley might be the best in the league right now. And then Lassiter, who's the young rookie on the other side. So they're young, they're talented, they can rush the passer, they can dominate at the line of scrimmage, and then the offense is opportunistic. It's, you know, last week they forced four turnovers against the Dolphins and they score 17 of their 20 off of turnover. So they're making the plays. They have to. They're not as dominant offensively as they were. Even though I love their skill positions, their offensive line is the question mark. They. They struggle up front, they struggle to pass protect, and then everything kind of goes from there. So I think it's a fascinating matchup on paper to me at this stage. It's Lamar in that Ravens offense against this Houston defense led by Tamiko. Ryan's like, that is the matchup, and I think it's going to be awesome.
Unknown Sports Announcer
Level of concern for the Lions is what.
Dan Patrick
Gosh, you know, you just. You can't help but just feel for him because four or five weeks ago, they were the best team in football. And it wasn't just because of the offense. It wasn't just because, you know, golf's playing at MVP level and the offensive line has been good there for a long time. And of course, Ben Johnson's the bell of the ball. He's the coach everyone's looking for and the skill players unlimited. And then on the defensive side, they were so good. Obviously, you know, losing Hutchinson and then losing Anzalone. Aaron Glenn's held it together as long as he could, but you go back to like the top two of their robster depth early in the season, I Don't think anyone is left. And then of course the other night in that awesome game, you know, they lose Aleem McNeil, they lose Carlton Davis, they, they lose more starters. And then now the words coming out with Montgomery, the back alongside Gibbs, that he might be now out for the year. So it's just, it's unfortunate that this is the way it happens, but we see it all the time there. There is an element of luck to NFL runs. There is an element to the teams that stay healthy the longest, make their run. But listen, if we've seen anything about Dan Campbell, he's going to alter his approach, he's going to get super aggressive, he's not going to apologize for it. And they're going to have to try to make up for what they're missing on defense. They are going to have to carry the load. Hence why he onside kicked with 10 plus minutes to go in the game. Like that was not just an arbitrary gut reaction. He understands the efficiencies of the defense. They can't stop anybody. So why is he going to let teams go 85 yards for a touchdown when just let them go the short way and get the ball back?
Unknown Sports Announcer
I mentioned Josh Allen was like a better throwing Cam Newton when Cam won the mvp. That fair to either of these, both of these guys with that comparison?
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I think it's very fair. I think, you know, when you look at a lot of the things that Josh is doing, it's a very similar play style to how Cam played. I would argue that Cam was maybe used more consistently, especially those first five years or so in the run game. I mean, it was quarterback power, it was quarterback run, it was downhill. Like they use Josh, I think really smart. Like they, the way they activate him as a design, quarterback, runner, it's red zone, it's short yardage, it's perimeter runs, it's spread QB draw. They do a great job saying, okay, we're not going to just run them into the ground, but when we need them, ball is going to be in his hands because he's the best player in the league. So I think in that regard they're both physical, they're strong, they can outrun you, they're powerful, they can protect themselves. I think that's an, that's an element that people are starting to see with. Yes, the quarterback run is such a weapon. And when you have a guy like Josh Allen and you have a guy like, like silly not to use it, but what guys are finding is over the course of a season are you able to sustain it? Do you have a guy that is built to take those hits and can be a runner? If your quarterback, every time he's in space to get hit, just gives himself up and he's not willing to run through contact, you lose the advantage of running your quarterback. And that's where Cam was so unique is when he got in the open field, they didn't want to tackle him. Can't they bigger? Cam was at more risk standing in the pocket, getting to get injured, getting guys at his legs blindside than when he was actually on the offensive as a runner. And I would say the same thing about Josh. And then obviously his Josh's ability to throw off platform and throw from outside the pocket and some of those throws he made the other, other night on the run against Detroit were just, I mean they were just out of this world. So I think he's the mvp. I think I can't, I mean I can make an argument for Lamar, I can make an argument for golf. I just. What Buffalo's doing right now, you can argue they're the best team in the league right now and he's the best player.
Unknown Sports Announcer
I was amazed when I first met Cam, how big he is. Like when you, when you see quarterbacks, like he's probably bigger than you.
Dan Patrick
Oh yeah, Cam's eye to eye with me and when we were both playing, we were probably within, I don't know, anywhere between 5 to 10 pounds of each other in any direction at any kind. Yeah, he, Cam could have played defensive end, Cam could have played tight end. Cam could have played outside edge rusher. When you talk about just unique physical specimens that have come through the NFL, Cam Newton's @ the top of the list. The first time I ever met him in training camp, I had just gotten traded to Carolina from Chicago and I walked into the training room and of course watched him at Auburn and watched him win the national championship and the Heisman and all that. And then, but again, to your point, when you see him in person, you don't realize just how imposing he really is. And you know, when I saw him I was like, whoa. And then obviously out in the field and the way he's able to run and he was long legged but powerful and obviously could just rip it. He was a unique physical product. But yeah, just his sheer size was very unique.
Unknown Sports Announcer

Dan, it's one of the great traditions in bowl history. It's the Scooter's Coffee Frisco Bowl. Remember we used to hang out at your house and watch that.
Unknown Sports Announcer
Oh, brings back great memories.
Paulie
Times with the kids.
Unknown Sports Announcer
And then they pour hot coffee over the coach. Who wins.
Paulie
Scalding hot coffee.
Unknown Sports Announcer
I like it.
Paulie
Memphis at 10 and 2 versus West Virginia at 6 and 6 in the Scooters Coffee Frisco Ball.
Unknown Sports Announcer
Memphis favored by five.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Unknown Sports Announcer
Favorite by five. Okay, who wins the cup? Todd, you have been talking about the cup constantly. By the way, Charles Barkley will join us on the program tomorrow.
Dan Patrick
All right, I gotta go with Doc in the Bucks.
Jordan
I think we're gonna win this one.
Dan Patrick
We're gonna bring it home to Milwaukee. They deserve it.
Unknown Sports Announcer
Marvin, who wins the cup?
Jordan
Because it's the cup and the Bucks have championship experience. I'm going. Milwaukee.
Unknown Sports Announcer
Okay, Paul, who wins the cup?
Paulie
This is tough because it means so much to so many, especially me. I'm gonna go with the Bucks.
Unknown Sports Announcer
I'm going with my thunder. I'm going with my thunder.
Paulie
Will you attend the parade.
Unknown Sports Announcer
Zoom wise? Zoom wise, I will. Was it the new WNBA commissioner who suggested that the entire WNBA should have been on the COVID of the Time magazine? Honor for Caitlin Clark.
Jordan
Marvin, it was the owner of the Washington Mystics.
Unknown Sports Announcer
Oh, okay. So I don't know who this person is, but felt like if you're going to celebrate the wnba, why not celebrate it with everybody in the WNBA or some of the bigger stars and Caitlin Clark? But if you're times person of the year, it's not the people of the year. It was a person of the year. Can't we just acknowledge Caitlin Clark changed the wnba? That's it. It's okay. You want to throw in Angel Reese. You want to throw the memory of Cheryl Miller or Cynthia Cooper like it's a win. We gotta. God, just. This is a unique moment. Caitlin Clark did for the WNBA what Wayne Gretzky did for the NHL when he went to the LA Kings. It's okay. Take a victory lap. You don't have to go, oh, my God. We gotta. You got. You know, these people are mad or this person's mad or this group is mad. Who's a. Caitlin Clark changed the wnba. It's okay. It's okay to say that you're not diminishing what the founding, you know, fathers of the WNBA did. You're not just. She's the time person of the year. That's all. The league won. But. But every time we think there's a win, there's somebody who brings something else up, and it's unfortunate. It's like when Tiger joined the PGA Tour. Did we say, oh, times, you know, man of the year. Well, you can't have Tiger on there. We have to have everybody on there, enjoy the coverage. It's a win. Stop making excuses for Caitlin Clark's greatness and what she. She did something different than anybody else in the wnba, the history of the wnba, with the way she plays. Oh, my God. Yes.
Jordan
Marv and I always go back to Paulie's article in gq. There's a difference between great players and phenomenons. No one ever said Caitlin Clark wasn't like. No one ever said there weren't ever great players before Caitlin Clark. There was never phenomenons, not in my lifetime with women's basketball. And I went to UConn, so I've seen plenty of great players, but nobody's ever moved the needle in my lifetime like this.
Unknown Sports Announcer
Yes. That's all this is. But we there. I don't know. You keep chipping away at it, and it shouldn't be. You should reinforce what you've built. You're building around it, new franchises. That's because of her. Just what Gretzky did hockey in the South. I just. I hate. I hate to see the WNBA cannibalize itself this way.
Paulie
Yes, Paul, The Washington Mystics. The owner that was upset. She had the biggest crowd in the history of her franchise or any franchise at 21,000 last year for a home game.
Unknown Sports Announcer
I just.
Paulie
Against the Fever.
Unknown Sports Announcer
Yeah. I don't. There's been a lot of great players in the wnba. A lot of great players. This is different. We're celebrating this year. It was different. Has nothing to do with the past. It's just right now in front of us. If we celebrate Shohei Otani, are we doing, you know, something to the Founding Fathers and Hank Aaron and Willie Mays and Pete Rose and. No, it's right now. It's right in front of us. It's in the moment. Celebrate it. Damn. Just drives me crazy that we keep. You know, it's black, it's white, it's the new, it's the old, it's the. She brought eyeballs, that's all. You're flying charter jets now. Now let's see how you build on this when. When juju comes in, when Paige Beckers comes in, Hidalgo comes in. Like you got a chance. Stop bickering with each other. Damn. Drives me crazy. And she doesn't have to apologize for anything. And she shouldn't. You just played and look, I was critical and said she didn't deserve to be on the Olympic team. She said yes, that's true. Oh, you gotta have her on. We need the pr. I don't want to be on a team for the pr. I want to be on the team because I earned it. And she knows she didn't. That's the respect she's showing the other players in the league. She admitted that. I just want them to get, you know, build on this momentum. You got something. There's a great product. Now you have people watching. People are opining on the wnba. That never happened before. You're fighting against yourself. That's the problem. Yes, Marv, Yes.
Jordan
We've never seen any coverage. We talked about the wnba. We talked about Caitlin Clark last year all the time.
Unknown Sports Announcer
Yeah.
Jordan
It was Ohtani LeBron. Who? NFL. Caitlin Clark.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Jordan
And now they're. Well, what about. It's a lot of. What about isms?
Unknown Sports Announcer
I know.
Jordan
Like, can we just be grateful that she's bringing so many eyeballs to the sport that normally they weren't watching this, no matter how great a player. Kelsey Plum, Sabrina Ionescu, Brianna Stewart, all great players, but they weren't doing this.
Unknown Sports Announcer
No, no. Kelsey Plum scored 3,500 points in her career, but she wasn't the attraction here. Sabrina Ionescu was a triple doubled organ. She's not the player that Caitlin Clark is. You got people now we see these other players. It's a benefit. Now people are seeing Brianna Stewart's one of the greatest players of all time, maybe the most decorated player of all time. If you look at college in the first, it's an advantage. It's a plus. Paul, this day in sports history.
Paulie
You'll like this one, Dan. 1991, the worst blowout in NBA history happened. Cleveland beat Miami 148 to 80. Brutal.
Unknown Sports Announcer
That's it.
Paulie
I just let that stand.
Unknown Sports Announcer
Okay, 148 to 80. Can you get the box score for me?
Paulie
All over it.
Unknown Sports Announcer
All right, thank you. Let's go around the room. What we learned in the program. Todd, I'm going to start with you. What'd you learn today?
Jordan
Greg also hopes to see Beyonce perform at halftime Christmas Day when he calls Ravens Texans. But the last time he saw it perform, his Panthers lost Super Bowl 50 to the Broncos.

They did, and I hold a grudge.
