Deliver very specific outcomes. You are listening to the Dan Patrick show on Fox Sports Radio. Final hour in this Monday Dan and the Danets Dan Patrick show the China Basin park here. Thank you to the San Francisco giants who are said you can have what you need. And we took advantage of that. The beautiful backdrop here with Oracle Park, McCovey Cove. Also, the Giants set us up a couple of years ago in Scottsdale at their minor league ballpark and had a beautiful time facility there. They even let us have the jumbotron. We haven't gotten to use the Jumbotron yet, but, you know, we're gonna find out here in a couple of minutes if we're able to pull that off. All right, a couple of notes here. The NFL commissioner is going to meet with the media later today and there's some football related stuff, but probably some uncomfortable conversations as well that will be had. The Raiders are hiring Clint Kubiak, who will be the offensive coordinator in the Super Bowl. Mike LaFleur, Matt LaFleur's brother, the offensive coordinator for the Rams, will take over with the Arizona Cardinals. We'll try to get to more of your phone calls coming up in this first hour. Good morning. If you're watching on Peacock, that's our streaming partner. Download the app if you haven't done so. He is the president and CEO of the San Francisco Giants. He's Larry Baer, who joins us now.
Larry Baer
Hi, Dan.
Dan Patrick
And he came bearing gifts as well.
Larry Baer
Gifts we have.
Diana Rossini
You're.
Larry Baer
You're now a giant for life. Here we are, the cream colored jerseys.
Dan Patrick
All right.
Larry Baer
That Willie Mays, Willie McCovey, Barry Bonds wore.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Larry Baer
And it's all yours. Welcome to San Francisco.
Dan Patrick
Thank you. Thank you. And thank you for letting us have the facility here. Now can you.
Larry Baer
Great having you.
Dan Patrick
Can you turn on the jumbo. Do you have something on your phone?
Larry Baer
Oh, my button to turn on the jumper.
Dan Patrick
Tron. Okay.
Larry Baer
Got my little. Guess my little shoe button.
Dan Patrick
Have you ever opened the stadium for your kids to go in and like they want to take, you know, have wiffle ball or something like that?
Larry Baer
You know, we've had, we've had a lot of activities here for school groups and everything. I. Not just for my children, but we've, you know, it's such a magical thing, a ballpark. You know, we kind of take it for granted, those of us who come to it every day. But I have memories of going with my father out to Candlestick park on the bus and watching Willie Mays, Willie McCovey, Juan Marischal play, you know, hall of Famers, all hall of Famers play. When the Giants move to San Francisco in the 60s and then the 70s, a candlestick. And this ballpark now Oracle park, our new ballpark, is quarter century old and going strong.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I was going to ask you about the shelf life of stadiums because it feels like there is a finite amount of time before we then tear something down and we maybe move someplace or build something on the same property here. Why will this be different here?
Larry Baer
You know, Dan, I think it depends. I think it depends on a few things. On the location, on the feel, on how you're able to really curate a ballpark over time. And I'll never forget when we acquired the Giants. Just back now to the 1990s, early 1993, Candlestick park was 30 years old or so. Felt like it was 75 years old. Dodger Stadium was the same age, 30 years about. Because Giants and Dodgers moved west at the same time. And it felt like it was 10 years old. It was maintained beautifully. Dodger Stadium. And here it is going strong today. So, you know, we very much hope that we can be in the vein of Wrigley Field and Fenway park and, you know, be around forever. There will be. Obviously, there'll be improvements, and we do that every year. We do make changes and add and subtract and do things. But I think, you know, we're really proud of the city of San Francisco and the location and the support. So we're not going anywhere anytime soon.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, you did it right, though. The vistas, public transportation. You have people coming in to the city, which is really important. Building around, like, that's what worries me. Bears are going to go outside the city, you know, the Cleveland Browns outside. I want people going into a city, not leaving a city.
Larry Baer
Well, I think, look, the urban part of the urban experience. We like to talk about work, live, play, people living downtown, going to the ballpark, working downtown. It's part. It's. It's a great urban experience here in San Francisco in lots of cities around the country. And I think if a ballpark could be part of that experience. I think also baseball, uniquely, because it's played during the day, often it's in the summer. You want to have that experience in and around a city with the restaurants and the economic benefit that you can get. When this ballpark opened 30 years ago, there wasn't a lot around this neighborhood. Now we have a whole area, a whole neighborhood. It's really the growth engine of San Francisco is right where we're sitting here, right, you know, within a walking distance of the ballpark.
Dan Patrick
I was walking around yesterday, saw the statues. McCovey, Marichell, Willie Mays. Where are you placing Barry Bond's statue?
Larry Baer
Tbd. TBD on Barry. But will we you know, Barry, it's interesting because the five that we have are in the hall of Fame. The five statues, that's been sort of our criteria. But we view Barry as a Hall of Famer even though he's not in the hall of Fame. And that's obviously a big, long discussion that has been had and will continue to be had, but in our minds, he is a Hall of Famer and statue worthy. Jeff Kim, we're proud that Jeff Kent is going in the hall of Fame now, coming from the, the New Era ballot. And a year from now we have some others, including Buster Posey, who is our president of baseball operations, who we believe should be.
Dan Patrick
Does everybody get a statue if you're.
Larry Baer
In the hall of Fame? So your statue's coming when you go to the hall of Fame?
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Okay, so does Bonds have any say.
Larry Baer
In, in this, in terms of whether he gets a statue or where it is? Yeah, we've talked to some debate with Barry about it and, you know, we need to have that conversation and help figure it out. Yeah.
Dan Patrick
How do you come to grips with him being a Hall of Famer? If I say make the case for Barry Bonds, hall of Famer, you know.
Larry Baer
Look, I, it's, it's a tough one for us because, I mean, it's not tough decision. He, we believe he absolutely should be in the hall of Fame. You know, the, there's criteria on the ballot and it's hard for us to opine on him versus other players. We think that's a, it's a really difficult discussion. But by any objective measure, him and there are others that are not in the hall of Fame that we believe are worthy in that era deserve to go. And that's, you know, that, that's something that's not going to get sorted out easily. Barry was from 93 to 99, you know, before all, before the allegations was, we believe hall of Fame worthy for his career in Pittsburgh and San Francisco. So, you know, that we can't, you know, it's just, you have a feel for it and you, it's, it's a subjective view. And Barry's a giant. Barry's a great giant, one of the greatest of all time. And we believe he's deserves to be in the hall of Fame and deserves a statue.
Dan Patrick
Fill in the blank. The Dodgers are blank for baseball.
Larry Baer
The Dodgers are a great competitor for baseball, for the Giants.
Dan Patrick
Do you hate, do you hate the Dodgers?
Larry Baer
I don't think you know this. It's an interesting discussion. I think you probably, you've Talked to the commissioner about this and others. You know, let's just take all the sports and here we are, you know, at super bowl week. I think having a dragon to slay in a sport, and if you go back, it was, you know, in the NFL was once upon a time the Cowboys, the 49ers had their run. That's not all bad. The Yankees did that. In, in, in baseball, you could say that's the Dodgers. Now having a dragon to slay, is it necessarily a bad thing for the sport? We want to beat the Dodgers and we want to be at the top of the division and one day we want to be the dragon to slay. You know, baseball is unpredictable as well. When we won three championships in 2010, 12 and 14, we weren't predicted to win any of those years. And we didn't have a top five payroll any of those years. So hats off to the Dodger organization because they've done it with obviously high priced players, but they've also done it with farm system and development.
Dan Patrick
Well, people lose sight of the fact, what were they two outs away from losing that World Series. So it wasn't that they breezed through everybody, but when are you, when did you decide, do you have to hate the Dodgers? Like that comes with the rivalry, does it?
Larry Baer
You know what, let me tell you a quick story, a couple of quick stories. Okay? Number one, growing up in San Francisco, you know Juan Marichell and John Roseboro and Giant Dodgers and you know, Maury Wills and Sandy Colfax and Don Drysdale with Maze McCovey Marichell. I mean, it was just one of the great rivalries of sports and it remains a great rivalry. So hate is, I don't really, I don't like the word hate because it's just like it's a rivalry that gets your blood boiling in a good way. But the story I wanted to say is in the Giants almost moved to Florida. This is 1992, and the team was financially on the ropes. And that's when our group came together to buy the team. But there was a deal signed to move the team to Florida. The number one, the number one supporter of the Giants staying in San Francisco, Peter o' Malley and the Dodgers, because we came out together from Brooklyn and New York in 1958. And this is a spectacular rivalry. So off the, you know, on the field we try to beat each other's brains in. Off the field, we're actually, you know, colleagues and partners in trying to grow the sport. And having opened up the sport in California. The first two teams west of the Mississippi, the Giants and Dodgers are. It's a great rivalry. So the fans, we like the fans being energized and all, but we think it really adds to the, to the value of the sport having this rivalry.
Dan Patrick
He's the president CEO of the Giants, Larry Baird. Can you overspend on your team?
Larry Baer
You know, you. Can you overspend? I mean, it's. The question is how do you define overspending? Does it mean being in the luxury tax? Does it mean if you do development the right way. Right. Which we've had. We were lucky enough in that era when we won championships. Pretty much the entire team was homegrown, right between Buster Posey and Massive Bumgarner and Tim Lince and Brandon Crawford and Brandon Belt. And so we didn't overspend. We didn't have to overspend. You know, we were somewhere in the top 10, but we weren't in the top five in spending. So I guess the question is, do you need to overspend to win? I would say the answer is no, but you have to have the right development in baseball. Baseball is different. I mean, we. You come off a college campus or a high school campus for that matter, and you've got, you know, the very best players are in the minor leagues for three years, four years, and that's really where a lot of the arms race is now. It's not necessarily. Yes, signing free agents can matter and we've had some great free agents, Barry Bonds at the top of the list who have mattered a lot. But if you didn't have the 24 other players to pair them with and the guys are coming up through the minors, it's, it's, it's hard to do it through free agents only.
Dan Patrick
Were you in on the Otani sweepstakes?
Larry Baer
Yeah, we were in on the Otani. We had show a sitting in just across the. The water here in the ballpark, trying to woo him.
Dan Patrick
And you were going to let him pitch and hit? Yes, because not everybody wanted to do that.
Larry Baer
We were going to let him pitch and hit and we, you know, in our salary and deal was competitive to the Dodger was pretty much the same as the Dodgers. The agents for him at the time, caa, they basically set out the deal and you know, we would have played along along with that deal. But you know, look, we understand everything. He was in Southern California. He is one of one. He's a unicorn. He's amazing and he's good for the sport.
Dan Patrick
Were you closer to Getting Ohtani or Aaron Judge.
Larry Baer
I don't know. I mean, Aaron Judge grew up a lot closer to San Francisco than Shohei did. We.
Dan Patrick
I thought you were getting him. I thought, I thought you guys were going to.
Larry Baer
Yeah. You know, it's interesting because Aaron's such a great guy and he's grew up near here. We totally understand going back to the Yankees decision to go back to the Yankees because you're a Yankee great and you step away from that. It was in some ways out of our hands in the sense that we were getting competitive on the numbers. I'm not sure there were any numbers that were going to get him here if he, if the Yankees decided in the end they were going to keep him. You know, he, we had a great event here with his parents and Aaron was quoted as saying his favorite player growing up was Rich Aurelia, who played shortstop, who played in front of Barry Bonds. Right. And so when Aaron was growing up in the 90s, and so we had a little event here where Aaron, we were having a dinner and Aaron gets tapped on the shoulder. He look, turns around, he said, aaron, nice to meet you, I'm sure. So look, we, we, we did what we could, but you know, again, Aaron Judge is good for baseball. He's tremendous player. We didn't walk into that thinking that there was some huge, you know, 90% chance he was going to come to us because he, he at the time was a Yankee great. And to continue as a Yankee great is, you know, is a big deal.
Dan Patrick
Thanks for the accommodations not only this year, but a couple years ago at the super bowl where we were in, in the Scottsdale Stadium. It was wonderful. Your people have been great and we appreciate the accommodation.

Actually it's probably I didn't since they didn't make it.

By the way, it's a meat Friday on a meat Monday here we have bacon wrapped scallops, we have wagu steak and eggs and we have loaded baked potatoes. Who has it better than we do? Nobody. All right, talking a little baseball there, but the San Francisco Giants been very, very hospitable and I think it'd be nice to go over there and maybe run the bases at some point today. Yeah. You kidding me? Larry's got the keys. Maybe we kind of walk the bases. I don't know, Todd.
Larry Baer
Jog the bases is fine.
Dan Patrick
Real head first slide into third kind of feeling going on. That'd be sick. You're gonna do Pete Rose there. Heck yeah. Well, I mean Bay Area Ricky Henderson. Oh, didn't Ricky slide head first when he stole the base? Greatest of all time. Now I am the greatest. That was at third base and he and he slid in head first the best. I ran out of time with Larry Bear. I don't a lot of things talk about there. All right, what's the poll question results? Then we'll bring in Diana Rossini. I'm in the sunset of my life. And I. Whoa, easy. Sunset of my life.

You've got a long way to go.

No, I don't like that. Kind of over under seven, seven and a half years.

Larry Baer
That's such a harsh thing to say. You know how I feel about it.
Dan Patrick
I know, but I'd be almost like 25. You're saying cause of death? Yes. It could be natural causes. Slash Todd Fritz. Like you could. That's just dang.
Larry Baer
Even in a joke. It's a chicken.
Dan Patrick
Awful thing to say. We make the smooth segue into bringing in the athletic. Senior NFL Insider, co host of the Athletics Scoop City podcast with Chase Daniel. Diana Rossini is on the program. Look at that. No longer a mom haircut. Look at you. Got a. Got a couple of kids. Now all of a sudden, look at you.
Diana Rossini
I retired the mom, Bob.
Dan Patrick
You did?
Diana Rossini
I. You know, I woke up the other day and I said, you know, I. I want to feel young again. These kids have worn me down. I've aged 15 years. In a span of four years, how.
Dan Patrick
Many you have two kids?
Diana Rossini
Yeah, I have two boys. They're four and three. They're 13 months apart. Oh, so it's like having twins.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Diana Rossini
And I'm sure this shocks you, but they have a lot of energy.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Diana Rossini
So.
Dan Patrick
But you do, too.
Diana Rossini
Well, that's where they get it from. And. And their father's probably ten times more energetic than I am, so you combine that.
Dan Patrick
But you're the cool mom who covers the NFL. When they get to a certain age, it's like, what. What games your mom going to?
Diana Rossini
Yeah, maybe for now, it's like, you know, have you ever met a T. Rex? You know, that's what they care about. I. I've FaceTimed players before. To just try the cool thing with them because they watch football with us on Sundays and you know, we point out players and, and they're little Eagles fans because their father is. So I've had players just, you know, say hello to them. They could care less. They do not care. But If I could FaceTime a T. Rex, we'd be good. Or take them on a train.
Dan Patrick
But it's, it's tough though, when you look at what is real, like home life with kids. They're young and you're still trying to do your job to your standards there.
Diana Rossini
Yeah. And also my role's a little different. I'm not just an NFL reporter, I'm an insider. So there's this expectation that I have to be on all the time and I am, but my phone's with me a lot. And so it's balancing the act of doing my job at a high level, but also not having my head in my phone all the time because I don't want them to pick up on those habits. And they're old enough now to understand. They know what texting is and they have this amazing ability that if it's like the higher ranked the sources, the higher the level, the louder they scream. Right. So like my little three year old Joey, he's like, owner, I'm going to go nuts right now, you know, so. But I will say the one thing in the NFL that I've really appreciated, and I don't think I've really ever said it out loud, how understanding the, the men in this sport have been about my transition into motherhood in general. Not just because they also experience it and they've seen their wives, but just I, I've been in the car before and they're screaming or someone's yelling and, and guys are always like, don't worry about it. I'm going to keep talking. I know you can hear me. And this is annoying. Don't get me wrong, it's annoying, but I've always, I had a conversation with an agent yesterday and my, my sons were screaming. He said, hey, why don't I call you later? Don't worry about. Go, go deal with that. I just, I've always really appreciated that in the NFL especially.
Dan Patrick
What was your best scoop this past year?
Diana Rossini
We had a lot. I don't know if there was any one specific story that, that we did this year that that was gangbusters. Maybe, maybe Brendan Ayuk, which is, you know, timely because we're here. You know, he wasn't showing up. No one knew what was going on. And Kyle Shanahan is the best at being transparent with the media. He's one of my favorite coaches to cover because he doesn't lie. And I don't know if he does that intentionally or he's just self aware that he's a bad liar. So he just doesn't do it. Whereas, you know, we've seen so many other head coaches in football do such a good job of just faking through every press conference. So I don't know, I just started to notice Kyle was. He was just saying less and less and less. And so he dug on that a little bit. And then it turns out, unfortunately, Brendan Ayuk had never been at the facility at all. Like he wasn't even around. And so Mike Silver and I, my colleague, we broke that on a Friday night and it was. It caused a lot of. A lot of problems after that because no one wanted that out just yet. But you know how it goes.
Dan Patrick
Give me the first question you would ask the commissioner.
Diana Rossini
Besides, I personally am interested if we're going to have a Super bowl internationally in the next five to 10 years, I would like to know if we're really going to be doing this because the league just released all these international games just about a half an hour ago. We're just seeing more and more. But I'd say just based on what I was reporting on the last two, three weeks, this coaching cycle, when you're seeing so many minority candidates get passed over this, this process this past month stood out the most to me. This was the most shocking in terms of how little it seemed and almost how fake some of this stuff appeared to be in terms of these interviews and how they went about it. And I felt like a lot of these teams knew exactly who they wanted to hire and they weren't going to be willing to give a chance to anyone but that person that they had on their mind.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, but how's he deal with that question?
Diana Rossini
He's just going to probably have to pass it off, right? He's not going to be able to have an answer. But I think so much of this press conference today isn't so much about getting that direct answer, but it's to begin conversation so in the off season we can start addressing it. I mean, he. I don't think this is going to be one of his easier press conferences today with how much is in the news. Sometimes these are just lollipop questions. We go up there. There's not too much today. Today's going to be a Heavy day for him.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. But you know, it's, it's like when you are going to be deposed and your lawyer said, all right, here's the questions they're going to ask you and he's going to be ready to go and somebody's going to say Steve Tisch, Giant The Epstein Files. 18 Game Schedule International. Everybody's going to play an international game. The turf refs, officials. Yeah. Transparency.
Diana Rossini
I know you're upset about that. Sorry about that. Is it bothering you that you, that your head coach got out game managed by the opposing coach?
Dan Patrick
Wow.
Larry Baer
Wow. I can't dispute that.
Dan Patrick
It's very, it's very tough staring at these helmets and not seeing.
Diana Rossini
So you guys have heard of a guy named Stretch, right? John Stryker has this name. Have you heard it through a couple of interviews? He is Mike Vrabel's right hand man. He's the genius behind that 6 foot 4, 260 pound head coach. He's the brains in there that he's actually. Stretch is actually six, six himself. Those two have truly become experts of the game. I, I think they're the best game managers of any head coach. They know this stuff. They have the bandwidth for it. They're obsessed with it. Vrabel's obviously on the competition committee, so he, he knows the rules in and out. And, and I consider Sean Payton to be one of the brightest coaches as well. And they lost that game because Mike Vrabel outsmarted them. And that's why I think the super bowl by the way, is going to talent wise, like on paper, Seattle's better. They are. But this could come down to something weird and bizarre that, that Vrabel pulls out of his back pocket. This just because he knows it's so.
Dan Patrick
Well, when's the last time you got yelled at by a coach or player?
Diana Rossini
Mike Vrabel, it was actually the, it was, it was pretty, it was a genuine yell. It was the year he was out and I was at the Senior bowl and I'd had two back to back dinners with general managers. So it was like a double book. But I had to make it work. And I had the same conversation with both these GMs and they were asking me why do I think that Mike Vrabel didn't have a job. Like why isn't he a head coach right now? And I said, I don't know. I was like, I covered him a lot in Tennessee. I thought he was collaborative. He's a good leader. Players love him. I don't know. And they both offered up that they thought that he was too physically intimidating. So the New York Post sees this, or excuse me, I go on a podcast, the New York Post hears it, and it went from an intimidating figure that is perhaps scaring owners to, like, mike Vrabel's too fat to get a job.
Dan Patrick
So he calls me.
Diana Rossini
He's like, why would you ever report that? That's ridiculous. That's not even true. I'm like, are you asking me if I think you're fat?
Dan Patrick
You know, so.
Diana Rossini
So that was. That was not fun. Because I just think, you know, he didn't.
Dan Patrick
For the record, you weren't calling him.
Diana Rossini
No, no. I was really just relaying.
Dan Patrick
Chubby or chunky maybe, but not fat. Okay.
Diana Rossini
I was relaying to. I think it was Chase on the podcast that, hey, I was basically doing what I do all the time. Hey. Had these conversations with two general managers, and they told me this is why they think, you know, Raves doesn't have a job. And I just think that's interesting because the guy's so physically large, it's going to prevent an owner from hiring him. That's stupid.
Dan Patrick
Paulie, do you have the article? Yeah, I found the article from February last year. Two years ago, Mike Vrabe with the headline, mike Vrabel's physical appearance may have been too intimidating and turned teams off. Diana Rossini credited.
Diana Rossini
Which was the truth of what it was. But, you know, I'm glad that you asked me about getting yelled at. I probably spend more time doing on the phone arguing with people in the league because I'm sure you guys are aware and you know this. Well, everyone is so paranoid about information, and they want it. They want control over it, and I like to dig, and sometimes I like to poke around in places where people don't want to be poked. And. And you have to have an ironclad stomach in this league to deal with it, because there's a lot of yelling going on in my house, and it's on the other line. My husband jokes all the time. He's like, you fight with more people in football than we. And I'm a different person, obviously. Like, I. I had to be different with these guys because they. They want to push you around, and they want a story told a certain way, but the truth is the truth.
Dan Patrick
Do you think we're playing a Super bowl outside the United States in five? If I said five and a half years, the over under. Yeah, because everything's gambling. So.
Diana Rossini
Yeah, it is. I do. I think where I think I. I want it In Italy. But, see, now everyone's for it.
Dan Patrick
We'll have it at the Coliseum. Our.
Diana Rossini
Our friends, Big Cat and pft, they give me a hard time because they know I'm all about the International super bowl game, because I just think that would be such a great experience because they. They obviously want it here because it's an American sport. And I. I get that, too, but. But why not do it in a place that. That like. Like Tokyo even, where there could be so much growth and. And it could be popular. The problem is it's just not as popular, you know, like, there's not gonna be a lot of fans there. I don't think a lot of people are gonna take trips to. To go see it. I'm not. I don't believe. So.
Dan Patrick
I think you have to do it in London. I think you have to be fair.
Diana Rossini
Start there, because, hey, we. We started it here. We grew it here. Yeah, no, no, that would make sense.
Dan Patrick
And people would go to London. You know, it's not, you know, crazy travel to get over there. So I. I could see them doing that.
Diana Rossini
What number super bowl is this for you?
Dan Patrick
I lost track.
Larry Baer
You did?
Dan Patrick
Yeah. It's probably 37.
Diana Rossini
That's unbelievable.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, 36.
Diana Rossini
Which one? That stands out for you?
Dan Patrick
Oh, the Seattle Patriots one.
Diana Rossini
Really?
Dan Patrick
Well, because I'm. And I've told this story to my audience, but I'm under the goal post, and so I'm handing out the trophy. So I'm. I'm waiting for Marshawn lynch to come. So he lines up to the right of Russell. Russell sends him over to the left, and I'm going, here he comes. And I'm just watching Marshawn lynch, and I'm going, okay. I'm running through the Rolodex of. Okay, Russ will be mvp. Marsh. Marshawn Lynch. Pete Carroll is going to be up there. Is Paul Allen going, like, you know, you start go. Who am I interviewing? Next thing I know, Russ goes back to pass, and I'm with my producer, and I go, oh, bleep. Like, just throwing the pass. I didn't even know what happened. Next thing I know, I go, man, Malcolm Butler knocked that. Malcolm Butler's got that. And I went, okay, Robert Kraft. Brady Gronk will be up there. Is Malcolm Butler.
Larry Baer
Babe.
Dan Patrick
You know, all these things that went.
Diana Rossini
Through my mind, it's just tremendous that you had to maneuver that so quickly. I did my first NFL sideline game for Netflix this Christmas. You know, usually when you guys have seen me on tv, it's Pregame, post game, xfl. I did sidelines, but I mean, what was that? I don't know what that was.
Dan Patrick
Those are just raps.
Diana Rossini
All I know is that was the fittest I ever was. Like, I was. I remember I had a coach in the NFL text me, was like, you're on camera all the time, but you're not talking, you're just running around. I took it way too literal that the ESPN wanted to make that entertaining. But the post game interview is so much harder than it appears. Which is why people like you and Nancy and Tracy Wilson and Aaron Andrews and the people that we see do it. Melissa Stark, we'll see at the Super Bowl. They make it look easy, but it's very difficult, especially in a moment like that where it switches up so fast and oh, P.S. you're a human being too. Your adrenaline is going through the roof.
Dan Patrick
But this happened with Pittsburgh and Arizona. Arizona's gonna win the Super Bowl. Ben leads them down, throws the touchdown. So I'm doing Rolodex with the Cardinals. And then all of a sudden, Ben throws the perfect pass. And all of a sudden I'm going, now I'm on the podium. And then here's Ben. Ben thinks he's the mvp. I don't even know who the MVP is because Antonio Holmes just caught this. And it happens so quickly. And it's like 30 seconds before you're going live. Yep. And I'm yelling, yelling down to anybody, who is the mvp. Nobody's saying anything because it's, it's chaos. And then somebody walks by. Eventually I'm going to say five times I yelled out, who is the mvp? Can somebody tell the man? Meanwhile, I got. The Steelers are coming up. I got Ben coming up, and I'm like. And somebody else out, Holmes. And I go, oh, my God. Then I get in my headset, Joe Namath bringing the trophy up, and you know, the commissioner's going, are you going to enter? Are you going to introduce me? Are you going to introduce. I said, yeah, I'll introduce. Like, it's chaos, chaos, chaos, chaos. And then it, you know, it hits you that there's a hundred million people watching and all you want to do is get off the stage. That's it. And I just remember I got off the stage and I. I just remember it's chaos. Confetti players. And it, it's as if I'm in a vacuum. I didn't hear any noise whatsoever. I just walked to my trailer at NBC and sat in there for, like, hour. And I'M going, oh, my God. I don't know what just happened. It was, you know, Kurt Warner, Larry Fitzgerald. They're gonna win this. Okay. And then all of a sudden, oh, I completed that touch. Damn.
Larry Baer
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
Good night. Back to you, Bob.
Larry Baer
Not much.
Diana Rossini
How. How long does it take you to go to sleep after a night like that? Because again, that adrenaline again is just like.
Dan Patrick
It pumps long time. It's. It's one of the greatest moments because I didn't tell anybody I was handing out the trophy in my family. Oh.
Diana Rossini
So they're sitting at home watching.
Dan Patrick
Well, yeah, you got people saying you're handing out the trophy. And I'm like, yeah, you know, I. But I didn't want to tell them. I wanted them to watch in. In real time. And. And so I didn't tell anybody. But I went back and I remember I turned on an episode of the Office and I just sat there by myself and had a beer. I'm in a trailer and I'm going, I don't know if this is supposed to be, but it was. It was great. You just did your job.
Diana Rossini
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
And then I went and I had a beer and I sat and watched an episode of the Office. And then that was it. So 100 million people now. I'm screwed up, by the way, in front of 100 million people. But.
Diana Rossini
Yeah, but was Twitter around when you did that? No, no, that's. I mean, even just like I was having this conversation with someone last night, even just journalism in 2026. And I'm not going to bore everybody with. With that conversation of how it just. It's so difficult to report and accurately and thoroughly without people taking apart your piece and really putting it out the way they would like to. So we did a story, Alec Lewis and I, my. My colleague who covers the Minnesota Vikings very closely. He and I did a story yesterday on why they fired their general manager. And essentially we laid out all the reasons. It was. It was the draft picks that they didn't hit on some of the free agents, obviously, the quarterback situation. Right. The timing of all this was bizarre, but we peeled it back a little bit more to remind the readers. Like, hey, remember, this was a little bit of an outside the box hire. This is someone that came from Wall street and finance. Like, he. This isn't like some guy that was, you know, working 17 different organizations is working his way up. And part of the difference in what the way he managed was, he took paternity leave for his first and second child, actually, while he was the general Manager of the Vikings. So he took about two weeks off. He didn't go to practice. He worked remotely. And that's all anyone can talk about now is that he took. He was fired because he took maternity, which is not what. He did not get fired because he took maternity or paternity leave. But this is just kind of the, the. This is where.
Dan Patrick
That's a sexy pull quote for somebody. Yeah, man. Can you believe that? And you're like that.
Diana Rossini
It's terrible because it's not the truth. It's not fair to the Minnesota Vikings. If anything, the conversation that needs to be had is probably, does the league need to maybe change the culture a bit and allow dads to, to take a little bit more time for their partners and, and for their babies? I can tell you, my husband tried doing that. And day five, I'm like, go to work. Go to work. Stop looking at me. Stop touching me. Stop holding the baby. No one likes you here, and I definitely don't. And then I got pregnant again. So that didn't last long.
Dan Patrick
You let him touch you?
Diana Rossini
Yes, I did.

Did you know Tide has been upgraded to provide an even better clean in cold water. Tide is specifically designed to fight any stain you throw at it.

Yep. Chocolate ice cream. Sure thing. Barbecue sauce. Tide's got you covered.

Opening ceremony. Join the celebration on NBC. And Peacock. And it's the NBA Finals. But it's the NHL final. Right, Right. Yeah, we dealt with that. We, I think we deal with that every year. Tenses. Plurality. Yeah, well, you're a college professor. You know those things.
Larry Baer
Yeah, sure.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Mike in California. Good morning, Mike. What's on your mind? Thanks for holding. Hey, thank you for taking my call, Dan. Front row, back row. Welcome to California. Welcome to super bowl week. The five greatest days every year of the Dan Patrick show. The locations, the sets, the guests, the information shared and the fans are just awesome. I love it. Thank you, guys. You deserve a sports Emmy for these five days alone. My question for you, Dan, why would an NFL owner even be considered for the hall of Fame? They're not even really part of the game. They are part of the game because you have to hire the people, build the infrastructure. And Robert Kraft, to me, I mean, Jerry Jones got in. Did he get in because they won three Super Bowls. Did he get in because he helped build the league? So that's a contributor to the league if you want to put him in. But I don't, I don't have any problem with celebrating more people with the hall of Fame. There's a backlog and that's, that's an even bigger problem that they're going to have is there's only so many they can let in. And you're going to have. You're adding to that backlog, certainly of coaches. Yes, Marv.
Larry Baer
Well, we blame the jets.
Dan Patrick
And the jets are bad because of what? Ownership. Yeah. And the Dolphins are bad because of ownership. So you got to give them credit and blame Tony in California. Hi, Tony. Hey, guys. Good morning. I got a best and worst and then a Sharif clash explanation. So the best Clippers blew out the Suns last night to remain the hottest team. Worst is obviously the Kawhi snub. He's shooting twice as many threes this year and could be the ninth player to join the 50%, 90%, 40% club. Yeah, the NBA and free throw percentage. Yeah, and steals, too. But Sharif, it refers to Sharia. Sharia law, which is like religious law, that bans freedoms including rock and roll. So the sheik is driving the Cadillac, but doesn't want anyone to degenerate the faithful with that crazy Casper sound at the Kasbah. Oh, thank you. Sharif doesn't like that. Todd, what'd you learn today? The Saints and Browns are about to play a game in Paris. What did Paris ever do to the NFL? Satan. Having a dragon to slay in sports is not a bad thing. Paul, we may get the keys to the Giant stadium. I want to go out and run the bases. Marvin, your cause of death. Fritzi. Super Bowl Sunday, TCL Ultimate Series. The QM8K, QM9K. The best seat in the house. Ultimate brightness. You're going to love it. The ultimate game day experience. Tcl, the official TV partner of the NFL. Available at all major retailers.
