Final hour on this Thursday. It'll be busy. Yukon head coach Dan hurley will stop by and we'll talk to Mac McClung, of course, the slam dunk champion and now the all time leading scorer in the G league baseball opening day. You'll find it on NBC. And Peacock, it'll be the pirates Paul Skeens visiting the Mets. Then in primetime, the diamondbacks against the Dodgers. That'll be tonight on NBC. And Peacock, 877-3-DP show more phone calls coming up. Seaton poll question for the final hour is what?
Seaton
Yeah, we got a bunch of them up there right now. NFL season opener on a Wednesday night. Most people really don't care. Followed very closely though by hate it. Few people love it. Let's see, we put up a controversial one here. Which clip cost us the Emmy of the five options that we have, Dan telling Derek Henry he'll get into a sandler movie. Bo Jackson discussing the importance of colon cancer screening. Ms. Showing Paulie how to chop. Dan reacting to Michael Jordan's take on load management. Or Matt Friend doing impressions right now. Matt friend doing impressions has a pretty
Dan Patrick
good lead on things.
Seaton
It's a complicated poll question though. So that's a tough one. And then we also put up there, the best places to watch baseball are called park field or stadium.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Seaton
You know, Fenway park, Yankee stadium, Wrigley field, those kinds of things. Park right now is leading with 59 of the vote followed by field and then stadium.
Dan Patrick
Yankees over the Giants 7 nothing. In the season opener last night in San Francisco, Aaron Judge, five with four strikeouts. Sweet 16 starts tonight it'll be Texas, Purdue, Iowa, Nebraska, Arkansas, Arizona, Illinois and Houston. He's Mac McClung. He is part of the Windy City Bulls and the all time leading scorer in g league history. Were you aware of that record the other night when you put up 59?
Mac McClung
Yeah, it was a really cool moment, man. I think my teammates, they were, they're like, you're getting this record tonight. So they had my support and they really wanted me to break it. So it was a really cool moment.
Dan Patrick
And how much could you score in a game?
Mac McClung
The 59 was pretty exhausting. So I don't know, I don't know how much more I could do than that. So I'd probably say that's close to my limit.
Dan Patrick
So you can't go 83, like Bam, out of bio.
Mac McClung
I haven't done it yet, man. I don't know. That's. That's incredibly impressive, I think no matter what the situation is. So that's, that was really cool.
Dan Patrick
What are you told? Because we see your abilities, but what do teams tell you when you get a 10 day contract or you're brought up for a little while and then you go back to the G League?
Mac McClung
Yeah, it's kind of different in every situation, you know, I think, you know, being in the situation where you're fighting to find a roster spot, you. Different teams need different things. So whatever it is, I try to adapt and do that, you know, and it's been tough, man. A lot of times I've been told, you know, you're an NBA player like a coach. I had actually one year, you know, being on a two way, you're at the bottom of the roster, you made the roster, but you're kind of the guy that goes back and forth. And I had a coach tell me one year, he's like, man, you're an NBA player, like all you need is an opportunity. And I almost like was laughing, I was like, well, you got to give me that opportunity. Really. I'm just trying to make the most of whatever this situation is. It's tough, man.
Dan Patrick
Well, you hear about you don't play defense or you're not good at playing defense, you're not good off the ball. Like these are things that have been said. Are those fair, those fair criticisms?
Mac McClung
You know, my two games this year when I got called up at the beginning of the year where I got legit minutes, I was actually leading the league and still. So I don't know if I agree with that totally. So there's always going to be something, man. I feel like that's the thing I've been trying to do in the G League is just show like, oh, you said this wasn't that. That's. Well, that's not the case. And some people are always going to say certain things, man, but I've really got a lot of love and respect from, you know, peers in the league that I really appreciate and coaches in the league that I really looked up to. So I think just, just trying to find that opportunity in that right situation, man.
Dan Patrick
What was your welcome to the NBA moment?
Mac McClung
I would say with the, with the Lakers. That was where I started. And that team was LeBron, Carmelo Rondo, Dwight Howard. And I was just like, I'm this kid from this small Town in Gate City. I'm like, what am I in some video game right now? So that. That was shocking and something I had to adjust to for a couple days.
Dan Patrick
Did you get to keep the uniform?
Mac McClung
Yeah, absolutely. I always, always try to make sure I keep that and have it. You know, some of my kids hopefully can see it one day.
Dan Patrick
Do you introduce yourself to LeBron or does he say hello to you?
Mac McClung
I would. I definitely introduced myself. And, yeah, I don't think he. In that situation, he would ever have to introduce himself to me. So, you know, it was an honor being just a part of that and getting to see some things.
Dan Patrick
But are you starstruck on the floor when you're playing? Like, I'm guarding this guy that I grew up watching. Did you have that moment?
Mac McClung
I think in my first year, you know, you just adjust to that. I think at the end of the day, we're all competitors and you want to win and you kind of flip that switch once you get on the floor. But there's a level of respect, you know, when you're a little kid and you watch someone and they mean something to you, they make you love the game that you're always going to have for those people.
Dan Patrick
Do you think you're too good at dunking? That it overshadowed you as a basketball player? That maybe you were looked at as he does that and not maybe being fair to your actual basketball game?
Mac McClung
I think that that could be maybe something from the outside eye, but, like, these scouts and these teams, like, their job is to know basketball players. So I think anybody that, like, knows basketball, like, that is just something I got to be a part of, and I'm incredibly grateful for it. I'll lean into it, you know, like, that was such a cool thing that I got to do. There's. I'm never going to be like, oh, man, I hate dunking now because of that. Like, that's a beautiful part of my life. And I think, you know, the people that really love basketball and into basketball, like, that's just a part of me that's not really who I am.
Dan Patrick
He's Mac McClung of the windy City Bulls. But why not be in the slam dunk contest this year?
Mac McClung
Well, they, quite frankly, they didn't really want me in it this year, so that was. It was like they wanted me in it. And then some things happened, and, you know, it kind of just went back and forth, and at the end, they kind of didn't want me in the contest. So I'd already prepared. That's why I released those dunks on social media, because I'd already prepared. And I was like, well, you know, I teamed up with a. A company, marketing, and I was like, well, I might as well make the most of this.
Dan Patrick
But I'm just. Was it. You weren't on a roster? Is that why they didn't want you in the slam dunk contest?
Mac McClung
No, I made the Chicago Bulls roster maybe a little bit before that, so.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Mac McClung
I don't know. They told me that it was. It was just. It was a weird situation, man. I think they. They said a couple guys didn't want to do it if I was in it. And I was like, okay, well, I don't want to ruin that. And wait, why.
Dan Patrick
Why wouldn't they want to be in there? Because you were going to win.
Mac McClung
I don't know, man. I feel like a lot of these guys are really talented, so that would make sense to me. I mean, a lot of things in this league don't make sense. A lot of times I'm just going with the flow, man. I really am just going with the flow.
Dan Patrick
How would you do Michael Jordan in his prime? You in your prime? Slam dunk contest?
Mac McClung
That's a tough question, Dan. I think the times have changed. Like, kind of like in the game of basketball, like, everything progresses. So I think if Michael Jordan was in this era, he would probably have so much different dunks and so many creative things. So, I mean, I would. I think I'd be a little crazy to say I'd take over MJ like that, man. So. And I got a lot of. So much respect and love for him. I would never say that I'd beat him, but it'd be fun. I would. I would definitely take the challenge. It'd be a lot of fun.
Dan Patrick
Have you met him?
Mac McClung
No. Never met MJ before. It'd be super cool, though.
Dan Patrick
Can you leave from the foul line?
Mac McClung
My best jumps are off two feet. When I was in high school, man, when I was. When I was younger, I used to be.
Dan Patrick
That wasn't that long ago, Mac. Yeah.
Mac McClung
It feels like it adds two years to everyone.
Dan Patrick
You were really. You got. You got, like, viral famous in high school, it was like, Zion Williamson, this guy, you know, Everybody wanted to see those videos. Like, did you feel like a star when you were in high school?
Mac McClung
That was some crazy, crazy times. I was. I was in a town of 1500 people, so everybody already kind of knew me. And it was the cool part about it was when we would travel to different schools, they would like School would like shut down early because people would be outside waiting for the games. And it kind of felt like we were the kind of like this band that was traveling. It was like me and my best friends, man. It was such a cool experience. And you know, you go on YouTube and like, oh, that got 2 million views last night. It's just, it was, it was so weird being from a small town and like getting that attention, man. But it was really cool for me and my friends.
Dan Patrick
So it was boy band. You were like, you know, New Kids on the Block or One Dimension. One. What is it? One Direction?
Mac McClung
Yeah, we weren't that cool, but we felt good. It really did make us feel good.
Dan Patrick
So what's the future? What are you, 27, 27 years old?
Mac McClung
The future for me, man, I'm not sure. I really like kind of going back to this situation and the record and my G League career. Like, all I've tried to do, All I've tried to do is make the most of wherever I'm at in that moment. And whether that be the dunk contest, the opportunity I was given with that, or being in the G League, I've been. I've just tried to make the most of the situation. So I'm not attached to any outcome, but just whatever happens is I really, truly believe I'm not a victim of anything, man. So whatever happens is how it's supposed to be.
Dan Patrick
Official height and weight, I measured at the combat.
Mac McClung
I measured 6 to 185.
Dan Patrick
Okay. Maybe it looks better when you're shorter. Like if you're six, six, doing that, it's not as impressive.
Mac McClung
Yeah, maybe I maybe Wish I was 6 6. That would probably give me a
Dan Patrick
if. If you're 6 6, you're not winning the slam dunk contest, but you're playing in the NBA. There we go.
Mac McClung
Well, that's. That's the interesting trade off.
Dan Patrick
Hey, it's been fun, been entertaining. I hope you get that true shot where you get to actually play and, you know, prove a lot of these people wrong. So congratulations on the scoring record, Dan.
Mac McClung
I really appreciate it, man. I appreciate you having me on. Thank you very much.
Dan Patrick
That's Mac McClung. He's the all time leading scorer in G League history. And I was looking at some of the things that analysts will say or scouts will say with Mac and, you know, not a consistent outside shooter. Not good off the ball. He's really good with the ball in his hands. And then of course they bring up defense. Like defense is tricky because. Are you good on the ball, are you good playing the passing lanes? You know, Iverson wasn't good on the ball as much as he was playing passing lanes. You know, Gary Payton was good on the ball. Like there's certain guys on the ball and they played the passing lanes. But, you know, with Mac, is he saying, look, I was leading the team in steals, but, you know, and I thought maybe he could be. And I hate the stereotype, but like he could be a Peyton Pritchard, but you know that second unit coming in, giving you energy there. But Peyton Pritchard can play on the ball. He can have the ball and be off the ball. He can be a catch and shoot guy. And I think. But I still like the Brooklyn Nets. Nobody cares about the Brooklyn Nets. If you had Mack there and just say, go out there and be. Iverson, by the way, broke Iverson's state record scoring when he was in high school. And some of those videos with him. I mean, he is, he is attacking people. When he's dunking, he's dunking in traffic. Show me a great dunker. I'll show you a great dunker who dunks in traffic.
Paulie Fusco
Yeah, Paulie, like you said, this guy's been around a long time. Those McClung highlights on social media, that was 10 years ago. And he got really well known, went to Georgetown for a bit. It's just a weird thing how some players can't stick.
Seaton
It's.
Paulie Fusco
It's apples and oranges. But like Jimmer Fredette.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Paulie Fusco
Jimmer Fredette started seven NBA games.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Paulie Fusco
He played a few places and got a little bit of run, but never a commitment.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Yeah. You know, and we always go, oh, you know Jimmer for that could be Steph Curry. No, he could. Like, Steph Curry is one of the great ball handlers of all time. One of the quickest shots of all time. Jimmer had range. Jimmer was great in college. Yes.
Marvin
Marv and Mac and Jimmer, the big thing that they have in common besides, you know, what is their smaller shooting guards.
Mac McClung
Yeah.
Marvin
So I think that's the thing. And Mac hit it on head. If he was 6, 6.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Marvin
There's not a question of whether he's on the NBA roster too. And also he's a guy with the who's ball dominant. And in the NBA it's a lot of I have the star, but I need you to catch and shoot and make 50% of those three point shots that you take in a game.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. And you have to have him be Allen Iverson. Where you Say you're going to be our. Our point guard, but you're our scoring guard as well, and you let him have the ball. Most teams aren't going to allow that to happen. And at this stage of his career, it's not going to happen. But if I'm Brooklyn, I bring him in last couple of weeks of the season, let him have some fun. Yes, Marv.
Marvin
He'd be like Donovan Mitchell. Donovan Mitchell's six.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I know. Yeah, but he's. He's a build. I mean, he's solid. 6 2. Yes.
Paulie Fusco
Paulie Mack McClung should have pretended to be European coming out of high school. He sounds Irish. Even Northern Irish.
Marvin
McClungovich.
Show Promos Announcer
McClungovich.
Paulie Fusco
Like Nick Stauskis. If it was. Oh, Nik Stu.
Dan Patrick
If it's N I, C, K, you know, then we'd know American. But he was Nik.
Show Promos Announcer
Yes.
Paulie Fusco
And he was born in Canada.
Show Promos Announcer
That helped a lot.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, well, it didn't help that much. I think Sacramento took him, what, sixth overall or eighth overall to your Kings. Yikes. You loved it. Yeah. Yeah. Nick Stauskis.
Justin (Caller)
All right.
Dan Patrick
That was fun. I mean, I watched G League, and he went 54, then he went 59. That's. I don't care where you're doing it. You're putting up points against guys who were great in high school, probably really good in college, and, you know, he's averaging 30 points a game. All right, we'll take a break. We'll talk to UConn head coach Dan Hurley. More of your phone calls as well in this final hour on this Thursday. We're back after this.

See full terms@mint mobile.com Sweet 16 tonight it'll be Texas, Purdue, Iowa, Nebraska, Arkansas, Arizona, Illinois and Houston. The marquee matchup or one of the marquee matchups on Friday night will be Michigan State and Yukon. That will be in Washington, D.C. head coach of the Yukon Huskies, Dan Hurley, on his best behavior so far. No technicals. Is this a concerted effort to be on your best behavior here?
Dan Hurley
Not really. I'm pretty oblivious, you know, to the circumstances. But, you know, maybe. I don't know. I don't think I've ever gotten a technical in an NCAA tournament game. I would have to have my stat group. So I don't know, you know, maybe this time of year, you know, everyone knows that everyone's watching. So, you know, the referees also got to be careful that they don't give me a weak techn.
Dan Patrick
Oh, I hope I didn't jinx you here for tomorrow night. Yeah, Mick Cronin got one for clapping.
Dan Hurley
Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised. I didn't know what the. Obviously the prop bets. Well, I'm sure there were lots of them on. I don't know what I went off at, but somebody wants some money.
Dan Patrick
Are you now Dan Hurley, like Danny Hurley? Is that. That's a previous life?
Justin (Caller)
No.
Dan Hurley
I think maybe when I get in my 60s, I'll go back to Danny. When I want to feel younger because I'm old, maybe 70s, I'll go back to Danny.
Dan Patrick
Okay. All right. I know that you reached out to a lot of people when you considered the Lakers job. You reached out to Tom Izzo, who you face tomorrow night. What did coach say? Because I know he was thinking about going to the Cavaliers. The what was that the year that LeBron left the Cavaliers he was going to go in and coach. So what advice did he give you on the Lakers, John?
Dan Hurley
Yeah, I mean, you know, coaches, though he meet, he walked me through just, you know, his, his thought process when he went through, you know, like the decision making of making that move to the NBA and the pros and cons. And you know, he obviously, you know, at that time, you know, college was very different. And you know, the point that coachman had made to me was, hey, I think you really got to consider it our sport right now. It's, you know, it's so unregulated. It's such a mess, you know, that, you know, I would have considered this more now than I did back when college basketball, you know, was, you know, more regulated. So. But I, you know, coaches have been there for me on lots of different things, you know, and I've studied coach for a long time. Like I have all the great coaches, you know, I've studied, you know, their films as a high school coach trying to learn, you know, favorite practice drills of Tom Izzo, anything on motivation and leadership, culture building. You know, I've studied all the great coaches and taken advice from all the great ones.
Dan Patrick
Can you see yourself coaching at his age?
Dan Hurley
I can't see myself coaching at his age, but I also can't see myself not coaching. You know, like when you're part of teams and this is so, so much for a part of your identity, I always say to myself, I can't believe these guys are coaching in their 70s.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, yeah.
Dan Hurley
But then, you know, then you find yourself coaching in your 70s.
Dan Patrick
Like Patino, I mean, he, he's a life.
Dan Hurley
I mean, these guys are. It's incredible to me, you know, like, it really is the energy level, how they, you know, the thing about college, you know, college coaching, college basketball that, you know, the head coach drives the organization. I mean, they drive it, drive it, drive it and are pushing everyone around them to the max. And, you know, obviously, you know, with the amount of years those guys put in and what they achieved and to still be pushing that hard in their 70s, incredible.
Dan Patrick
Can you be out coached?
Dan Hurley
I think that's a little bit of a, whoever won the game out coached the other guy thing. You know, I think, I think it's more about matchups, especially this time of year. You've got great coaches coaching all 16 of these teams. You know, it all comes down to, I think, matchups, who's playing their best at this time of year, halftime adjustments and all that stuff. I think it's way, way Overrated.
Dan Patrick
Talking to Dan Hurley, the Connecticut basketball coach. They got Michigan State tomorrow night. St. John's getting a five seed after winning the Big east is blank.
Marvin
Crap.
Dan Hurley
You know, I mean, I mean, you know, crap. And then having the, you know, the two Big east teams, you know, in the same region, you know, it's probably the same.
Dan Patrick
Do you think that they were hoping that there would be a rematch committee?
Dan Hurley
Yeah, I mean, I, I think that they're definitely the committee. They got a weird sense of humor or they do a great job of trying to give the people what they want. And I think no matter how this week ends up in, you know, in D.C. you're going to get an Elite Eight game that's going to be, you know, it's going to be incredible. And you've got, you know, Duke, you know, rick Patino and St. John's UConn in Michigan State.
Dan Patrick
I had somebody ask me this and I didn't know if they were joking and I realized they weren't. They said, Can UConn be a Cinderella story as a two seat? I go, no. Well, I'll ask you, are you a Cinderella story this year?
Dan Hurley
No, I don't think so. I think we've been, you know, consistently, you know, consistently great the whole year. You know, we haven't always, you know, we haven't performed in the championship moments. So it'll be interesting to see how we respond this week. But you know, we, we played or we had as good a non conference wins as anyone in the country and then we went 19 and three in the big East. So, you know, and then, you know, we won our first two, you know, first two tournament games by double figure points. So I do think we're, you know, we're kind of coming in, you know, a lot quieter than we did in 23 and 24 and that's probably serves us pretty well.
Dan Patrick
I'm curious about the future of the mid major here, Dan, because I don't know if these last two years are an aberration or is that the future of the blue bloods are going to take over and mid majors are not going to be what they used to be.
Dan Hurley
Yeah, well, I definitely think that, you know, I think it's going to get tougher for mid majors because I think more high majors are going to spend more money in this off season. So I think it's going to get even tougher, I think, to make the NCAA tournament and then I think it's going to be tougher for the mid majors. But then I Also on the flip side, I think you're going to see even more international players coming into college basketball. I just think the inventory is going to grow as it makes more sense for international players that can make more money in college in America. And then that, I think, is just going to create more inventory of talent that the mid major, you know, ends up with, with better players, and they could maybe, you know, win more of these early conference games.
Dan Patrick
But I wonder, though, if you would rather get a transfer who has proven, or you got a high school kid.
Dan Hurley
I mean, in a perfect world, I'd rather have the high school kid. And I think the way that we try to do it is a majority of our team, we want is homegrown boys that, that we developed a relationship with. We have a culture. We got a real connection, you got a real fabric of a. And, and then supplement with, with what you need in the portal or, or at least, you know, in most cases have multiple years with the transfer. So it doesn't feel so transactional and then feel like you're just putting together a mercenary squad.
Dan Patrick
What's the most money somebody has asked you for?
Dan Hurley
4 and a half million, I think.
Dan Patrick
How does that conversation go?
Dan Hurley
It doesn't actually go on with me because I'll meet with the agents to talk about the vision for the player on the official visit with the transfer, the high school player. They could sit in on how we plan to develop the player, how do we use them in the system, whatever. But once we get to any type of negotiating, that just goes to the gm, Tom Moore, and then he just walks in and out of the boardroom telling me where the negotiation's going. And then, you know, yeah, I try to stay out of that. I, I don't, you know, the negotiations get personal.
Dan Patrick
How would you do coaching the UConn women's team? And how would Gino do well coaching the men's team?
Dan Hurley
Well, I think, you know, Gino would obviously do better coaching the men's team, coaching the women, because, you know, you know, because Gino's maybe the, you know, the best coach of all time. So I would be, I don't, I would be more relaxed. Obviously, I wouldn't be. I would enjoy. I don't know, they've won 27 or 20, 30 games this year by 25 points or more. I don't know how I would handle that. I don't know what type of stress I would create and, you know, what type of tension could I create there. It would probably make me crazy. I would Long for a brutal loss. At some point, you would, would, you
Dan Patrick
would probably consult your wife a lot more.
Dan Hurley
I would, yeah. She, she would, yeah. She'd have a lot to say too, and, and she'd be constantly monitoring me.
Dan Patrick
You, you would have to find somebody to yell at, and it'd be hard to find somebody to yell at on the women's team.
Dan Hurley
It would be. And, you know, and I don't know, I, I, I, or the officials are mostly female or, I mean, it was at half and half, you know, I just, it'd be an adjustment world.
Dan Patrick
Will you watch the games tonight?
Dan Hurley
Yeah, you know, we'll keep these guys up and do video. It's, it's, you know, the game's gonna start for us close to nine, you know, so we, but, but last week we played it at, I think we started our first round game at 10:30 Eastern Time. So our body clock is used to playing late at night. But yeah, I mean, only in years that I get eliminated early do I not watch. I, you know, I refuse, I boycott the tournament in years where we're not in contention.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I understand that. You know, why, why put yourself through the agony of watching somebody and you go, we're better than them.
Dan Hurley
Yeah. And it's like, you know, when you're a little kid or something and if you didn't get invited to a birthday party or a pool party or something in your neighborhood and then what going to do? Go up to the fence and listen to the kids splash around in the water? No one's doing that.
Dan Patrick
Is there something you're, you want to tell me that you didn't get invited to the pool parties in the neighborhood? Did anybody have a pool in Jersey City?
Dan Hurley
There was one. There was one up at the top of the block, right down a couple of houses down from Darren Savino, buddy of ours, coaches at ucla. And there was literally one pool in this, like, probably two block radius. And on the way to the park where my, where my dad and mom would put us through the drills, me and my brother, the jump rope, the ball handling drills, the shooting drills. In the heat of summer, we had to kind of dribble past that pool while they were splashing around barbecuing, listening to music in like June, July, August. So no scars.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, but how many titles did those people win?
Dan Hurley
I mean, I don't think, I don't think they, yeah, sports wasn't their deal.
Dan Patrick
Was your mom putting you through drills with your dad?
Dan Hurley
Yeah, because during the week, my dad, you know, he was a Probation officer. You know, so during the summer, you know, my dad didn't teach at St. Anthony, so he didn't get the summers off. So, you know, either me and Bob would write up the plan for the day, or my dad would have the. The workout written out. The UB brown box drills, the agility warmup. I mean, we would chalk, you know, X's on the. On the court so we could do our agility work. My mom would have a whistle, and she would put us through the paces as the neighbor, as people would be looking out at us in astonishment. Neighbors.
Dan Patrick
So your dad. Probation officer, I'm gonna guess, pretty tough to get away with stuff in. In your teens.
Dan Hurley
Yes. I mean, yeah, you knew. I mean, he just. Growing up in Jersey City, you know, the things that he did just as a kid raised in the street and as an outside dog, not an indoor dog, and, I mean, he. You know, and then being the probation officer, kind of driving around with him when he would go on house calls, trying to find, you know, I guess, his clients that had not come in to take, you know, the urine test or what have you. Just seeing grown men scramble as the Dodge Caravan was driving down Martin Luther King Drive, you know. You know, you can't get away with stuff.
Dan Patrick
But I wonder that, had you been, you know, raised in the suburbs as opposed to where you're raised, would you be. How different would you be? Or would you be different as a person, as a coach, player?
Dan Hurley
I would be a lot different. I. I think the, you know, the advantage of growing up, you know, where we grew up, growing up in the city, growing up in North Jersey, Jersey City, you know, I just think you've got a real versatile, relatable way about you. You feel like you could communicate with a very diverse group of people from all different types of backgrounds. I mean, Jersey City, I think next to Queens, is the most diverse city in America. So you develop a connection to all people. You're comfortable out on the street corner, but you're also. You develop a comfortability in the boardroom.
Dan Patrick
Great to talk to you. Do you have big plans for today?
Dan Hurley
Just the final prep. I mean, this is actually a good time of year, Dan, because the practices are short, the hay is in the barn, and. And you feel a lot less pressure this year. You feel like getting to this weekend, you're back in contention. You're, you know, you're playing one of the best teams in the country in Michigan State. You know, let's. It feels like a lot of pressure's off. Let's let's let it go.
Dan Patrick
Rip did you just come on because you were bored today?
Dan Hurley
Yeah, I do. I need time.
Dan Patrick
Filling
Dan Hurley
this brain right now needs distraction.
Dan Patrick
Well, yeah, hopefully I provided one for you. Thanks. Great to talk to you. Good luck tomorrow night.
Dan Hurley
Appreciate you, Dan.
Dan Patrick
That's Dan Hurley or Danny Hurley, depending on how old he is. Jersey City. Jersey City now is a whole lot different than Jersey City back when he grew up up because I remember I wasn't going into Jersey City. I remember when I was in New York in the early 80s, people talked about Jersey City and it usually wasn't something good. Let's take a break here. Last call for phone calls. Would you be interested in the difference between the Dodgers and the second place team? Yes, you would. The Dodgers to win the World Series plus 230 the Yankees plus 1,000. Then it's the Mariners, Mets, Blue Jays, Red Sox and the Phillies. Those are the latest odds according to DraftKings. But the Dodgers, who will make their season debut, coming up tonight against the Diamondbacks. You can watch that game on Peacock and NBC, which is where you can find our program on Peacock. Alrighty. Let me see. This day in Sports history. Bully. You know, we were thinking about this with Dan Hurley and Gino Oriemma. Those are the two biggest personalities, I think, in college basketball. If you look what Gino's done with the women's team, and then Dan Hurley with the men's team. Now, there's other, you know, Rick Patino is a personality, John Caliperi's a personality. But I don't think they're on the level of personality, like winning and personality together. You know, that's Dan Hurley. And now you can say he's polarizing. You know, he can be petulant. But, you know, even when he said if I coach the women's team, I don't, you know, there'd be no tension, very little stress. I'd have to find that, you know, you're almost. You almost need that. I think he needs that environment. I think he might lose his. Luke Murray, Bill Murray's son, who's an assistant coach, who by a lot of different people who know college basketball. Bill Murray's son is a very, very bright basketball mind. And it looks like he is in line for the Boston College. John. All right, Paulie. This day in Sports history.
Paulie Fusco
Yeah, I don't have that many. One thing about the Dodgers, they won 93 last year. They didn't win 105. They only got past the Padres by three games. Brewers had more wins. Phillies had more wins. Not. There are no teams that won 100 games last year.
Dan Patrick
And keep in mind how close that World Series was with the Blue Jays. They, you know, six inches, five inches, you know, they score, but, you know, it's. It's hard to really make a case to go against somebody other than the Dodgers. You know, we do this. We used to do this with Tiger at a major. Hey, Tiger of the field. If I gave you the Dodgers of the field, to me, that's different. I would take the field against the Dodgers just because things happen along the way. If somebody gets hurt or somebody all of a sudden finds a couple of really good players who become great players, you know, there's magic that happens. You know, the Diamondbacks going to the World Series a couple of years ago, like, who would have Thought, you know, we've seen the Rangers come out of nowhere. Giants come out of nowhere. Are the Cardinals. Can you check the over under for WINS for the St. Louis Cardinals? Is it at 70? I have a friend who lives in St. Louis and he says, you know, are we going to be an all time bad team? And I go, you're the Cardinals. Is the over under 70 wins this 70 and a half. Paul.
Paulie Fusco
I saw 71 and a half from a couple weeks ago, but The Cardinals were 78 and 84 last year. 19 games out of first.
Mac McClung
Dang.
Paulie Fusco
That is rare.
Dan Patrick
Yes, Mark.
Mac McClung
Yes.
Marvin

This is one of my favorites. Dan. 1931, Boston Bruins coach Art Ross became the first NHL coach to pull the goalie for an extra attacker. The Bruins did lose that game in the Stanley cup semis, but it was in the Stanley Cup. Can you imagine him waving to the

goalkeeper, hey, come here.
Webull Event Advertiser
No.
Dan Patrick
What? What are you talking about? I can't come here.
Paulie Fusco
First time.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. 1979 Magic over Larry Bird. 1973, Bill Walton went 21 of 22 and he was the most outstanding standing player. UCLA, their seventh straight title, but they only won by five over Memphis. I think Bill, if you check that box score. So he missed one. He missed one field goal and that might have been offensive goaltending on Bill. And I think he missed more shots from the free throw line. Like think he might have been 2 for 5 from the free throw line. But one of the most incredible championship game performances was Bill Walton in 1973. Final results of the poll question.

NFL season opener on a Wednesday night. People either really don't care or absolutely hate it. Very few people love it. Best places to watch baseball are called park field or stadium Park. Running away with that one and then which clock? Which clip of the five cost us the Emmy nomination? Dan, Derek and Sandler, Bo Jackson and colon cancer. The Paulie Miz Chop Jordan load management or the Matt Friends impression. Matt Friends impressions have a slight lead over the Paulie Miz Chop followed by Jordan Load Management take. Yeah, well, not many people voting for Bo Jackson talking about colon cancer, which is great.
Dan Patrick
You can't say that was a negative segment.
Seaton
It's got too many votes, actually. But not as many. Not, not as too many that it's depressing.
Dan Patrick
All right, let's get a couple of phone calls here. Justin in Utah. Hi, Justin. What's on your mind?
Justin (Caller)
Hey, Dan, thanks for taking my call. 5:11, 2:50. And I just have a hypothetical, and I figure you guys are the perfect people to ask because you, it's, it goes right in line with what I think we all wonder about bald people. Just hypothetically, if you had a bald co worker and suddenly they came back to work one day wearing a toupee, never addressed it, but you look around you and your other co workers, how would you guys handle this situation? Would you ask them about it? Wait till they bring it up. No, I'll hang up and listen. But I'm curious what you guys would do.
Dan Patrick
Is this something that happened to you?
Justin (Caller)
Justin, it very well, as Paulie likes to say, it very well may be hypothetical. Okay.
Dan Patrick
Yes.
Seaton
And just for clarity, hypothetically, which side of this would you be on, Justin? The guy wearing the toupee or the co worker who doesn't know how to handle it?
Justin (Caller)
No, no. I am very fortunate. I have a good head of hair. Not as good as Dan's, of course, but, you know, we all can't be perfect, so.
Dan Patrick
Thank you, Justin. Yes, Todd.
Todd Chase
Where we work, among the 12 of us, someone would just say immediately, nice to pay. What's going on with that thing?
Dan Patrick
But if you're in a real office setting, you're probably not saying anything now. I've been around guys who have come in and their hair is considerably darker. McLovin did that one day. I remember Mike Florio is texting me. He goes, are you guys gonna make fun of McLovin with his new hair color? And I, I, I didn't want to. I thought it was funnier by not bringing it up to McLovin that he knew we knew, but we just kind of left it there. Yes, Todd.
Todd Chase
And if you're already self conscious about something where you're darkening your hair or pretending you have hair, whatever you're doing, you don to add to that and make a comment to just let it go. Let them bring it up if they want or ignore it.
Paulie Fusco
Yes, Paul, but I think the toupee, the person who's putting on the toupee has to break the ice for the building. Hey, guys, let's get it out of the way.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, yeah. Yes. Seaton.
Seaton
Yeah, that's how I feel like I'm much more of. Let me just address the elephant in the room here. Like, I came in with a crappy haircut the other day and was like, before you guys said anything. I was like, hey, look at what I did to my hair. I really messed it up. Now it's just out in the open. Nobody feels awkward, especially me, you know. So if I was thinking about going to get a toupee or something, probably like two weeks before being like, you know, I think I'm getting a little something up top.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. And we can't make fun of your haircut now because you've already made fun of your haircut, Correct? Yeah.
Dan Hurley
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
It was a preemptive strike there. Let's go around the room, see if we learned anything on today's not even award nominated program. Todd Chase.
Todd Chase
Daniel says Ty Simpson's a more natural thrower, meaning his motion and mechanics. Fernando Mendoza is more robotic.
Dan Patrick
Seaton, did you learn anything today?
Seaton
I learned that ties for broadcasters are becoming irrelevant.
Dan Patrick
It yeah, I know I've got all these ties. I'd be more than willing to give them out. Marvin, how about you?
Marvin
Will Wade going back to lsu?
Paulie Fusco
Paul, announce your toupee.
Dan Patrick
In fact, I've got when I handed out super bowl trophy, I have pictures over here with the ties. I actually draped the ties over those pictures. Todd, what did I learn today?
Todd Chase
We all learned if you had one more round of golf, you'd pick Tiger or Jack Nicholas at Pebble beach or Cyprus.
Dan Patrick
Thanks for joining us. Our pleasure to serve you. We'll talk to you tomorrow.
