Allowing Pete Rose into the Baseball hall of Fame posthumously is kind, the right thing to do or cruel? Todd, I'll ask you. I want to see him get in, but my first inclination is cruel. Let him in after he dies so he can't appreciate everything that comes with that. All right. What about you, Marvin? I think it's cruel also. All right, Paul. Cruel. He should have always been on the ballot. Seaton. Yeah. Intentionally cruel. Well, he can't be on the ballot because he was permanently banned. If it was a lifetime ban, that he would probably be on the ballot. But President Trump meeting with baseball commissioner Rob Manfred a couple of weeks ago, this was a topic of conversation. Now there was also a topic of conversation that had to do with players coming in from Cuba and Venezuela with immigration. And I get the feeling, just a feeling we have invited the commissioner on. I have a feeling that the commissioner will probably wash his hands of this and maybe lift the permanent ban because permanent is different than lifetime. Now that doesn't mean Pete makes the hall, but if you're the commissioner now, you've done this because it feels like there's some things that the commissioner might want from the president and it feels like the president wants Pete Rose on the ballot to get into the Baseball hall of Fame. I think that's going to happen and I don't have any intel on it. Just reading the room here because this commissioner, this was a non starter. I mean I'd been around him before. I'd been around the previous commissioner in private settings. It was just a non starter. It was not coming into the conversation because there was no upside. And. But here's Pete postumously. And I thought if he gets in, and I said this the last few years, it would be posthumously. That may be the case. If you put him on the ballot and he. And he gets voted in, okay. And if he doesn't, then the commissioner can say, all right, we put it out there and he didn't get enough votes. I think he would get into the hall of Fame. And then it comes down to, well, what about the steroid guys? I really felt like the steroid guys cheated the game itself. You know, Pete, Pete was, you know, he had an issue. He had a big issue, a gambling issue, and he was addicted to it. And he would gamble on everything and anything. And what happens sometimes is you get back to what you know better than the other sports. And, and I say this firsthand because the guy that I bet through also took some of Pete's action. I knew what Pete was doing. I mean, it was an open secret. And even the guy that I bet through, he'd say, golly, your boy, man, does he bet on stupid thing like, Pete had a satellite dish. Remember when you could get those big satellite dishes, took up the backyard and he was getting hockey game, Vancouver Canucks. He was betting on everything. But, you know, he was a gambler. He was addicted to it. And it cost him, cost him dearly here. But do I think baseball will let him in or at least give him the opportunity? If you do it, then you got to put Shoeless Joe Jackson on the ballot. Got to put him on there as well. If you're going to be fair. As far as steroids go, I think the younger group of reporters covering the game might change their futures. But it's still, you know, if Bonds and Clemens and that's going to be on the veterans committee. I mean, I still think Kurt Schilling, I mean, you want to talk about somebody, no matter, I, I'm not going to factor in his, you know, politics here, but everybody else is. It's Kurt Schilling says some crazy things. He believes in some crazy things, but when he played, he was a Hall of Famer and you gotta draw the line somewhere. But they will say, well, you gotta factor in character. And okay, is it the character of the hall of Famer during his career? Is it the character of the hall of Famer afterwards? But I mean, I'm thankful I don't vote on something like this because there's so many things that you're supposed to factor in or not factor in depending on the sport. Keep an eye on this story because I truly believe Pete Rose will. They will lift the permanent ban and I think that he will get the opportunity to. And this is going to be a big conversation coming up, you know, this, this summer in Cooperstown. I just, I don't want you to be blindsided by this. I think it's, it's going to happen. I think Pete will get posthumously the opportunity to be on the ballot. All right, a few phone calls in here. Let me see Lucas in Texas. Hi, Luke. What's on your mind today? Hey, Dan. Good morning. Good morning. Wanted to offer just a little bit of unsolicited programming advice. One for the NFL and one for the DP show. You know, I'm a Houston Texans fan and I gotta feel, you know, watching the first round, I kind of got cheated, you know, like, yes, you gotta. You got to trade out, get smart picks. But I waited for two and a half hours and then all of a sudden my pick that I'd been waiting on was taken away at the last second and I felt a little deflated. So I don't know, there needs to be some kind of compensation for fans of like, man, can we get like a week of red zone for free or something at some trade off because that was miserable. But also for you guys, for the DP show, look, we got a lot of guys calling in saying, hey, how do I handle being a dad? How do I handle a proposal? How do I handle a wedding? You guys have given the advice pretty regularly over the last few years. If I were you guys, I would create a webpage or something on the website and say, go to here, dp.com dpshow.com how to. Or something. And that way your. Your advice is there. You know, Marvin's great love advice, all of you guys is great advice on how to connect with your dads. Handle lots of death, lots of sickness. I think it'd be a winner. Well, thank you, Lucas. I'll take that under advisement where somebody says, hey, I'm a new dad. Got any advice? Hey, my daughter is getting married. Any advice? Then I could just say, just go to danpatrick.com the tutorial is there since we have all the answers and nobody can describe love and marriage quite like Marvin can. Absolutely. I have nothing to offer you. I know when we were going around the room and we were Saying, hey, what are some. What's some advice on, you know, happy marriage? A long marriage went around everybody, and all of a sudden I go to Marvin, and Marvin goes, I. I got. I got nothing for you. You had time. You had time to think up something. I did, but I don't have anything. You better like them. That's my advice. Yes. I love so and so. I didn't ask you if you love them, you like them, you fall in love, you stay married. Married because you like each other. You like each other every day. Go on a road trip with your wife for, like a week. You'll find out if you like or if you love. Yes. Let me make sure that mine's going to work out first before I give everybody else a bunch of advice. Okay. At what point do you go now? I think, like, 20 years. 20 years. Fair, you know, sample size here where you can go. I could give some advice here. Like, Marvin's been married 10 years. 12. 12. Okay. But you get to 20. Can you give advice? I'm going on 38, so I can give advice. Whether it's applicable or not. Yes. Paul, I thought you were saying, when do you know it's going to work out? Like, the marriage? I think you make that decision in your head and then start having children. Like, you got to make sure you're like, I feel 100 about this thing. Let's move forward. Well, and then you'll get couples who they, you know, we're not doing well. We're going to have a kid. And I always go, no, no, no, no, no. That makes it. That makes it even harder. That means you're. You're further away from each other when you have a baby. We, you know, try to. You're going to. We'll just have a baby. Yeah. See, I had a buddy of mine one late, late drunken night. We used to get after it pretty good together. And we had just found out that they were having another baby. And he. Late into the night, we were outside having a cigarette, and he was just like. I was shocked. It was like. I was just about to suggest we take a break. Oh, guess that's not going to happen. Oh, dear. Yeah. Oh, dear. Yes. Well, it looks like you're in for it there. How about don't have a child, thinking it's going to bring you closer together. Just saying. Just saying. Rob in Orlando. Hi, Rob. What's on your mind today? Hey, Dan. Good to hear you guys, as always. I got a quick name for the heat from last night, and then I want to answer Fritzi's question from last hour, I think the Heat evacuated themselves last night. Okay. All right. I mean, like, evacuated themselves from the playoffs. Completely. Yeah. Literally. Yeah. Yeah, exactly. And as far as that, Todd asked about what Steeler fans think, but Aaron Rodgers, none of us want him here. Like, honestly, I would rather go into this season with Mason Rudolph, and I know that sounds crazy, but the best move for us at this juncture, forget Aaron Rodgers. Trade give the Falcons a six round pick for Kirk Cousins. You know, we've got salary cab room for this year and next year and Kirk Cousins a good mentor in the room with. With Will Howard and, and Mason Rudolph being there too. That's not crazy. I mean, I. I don't look at that as crazy. Thank you, Rob. I think you like the potential with Aaron Rodgers. It's just I can't go year to year. I have to plan accordingly. And I think that would be one of the big drawbacks with Aaron. Like, hey, is he getting. I was told he wants to play two more years. Whether that's true or not. Two more years. Okay. But it feels like he would be a. Let's reassess this after one year. And then what happens in the off season? And then where is he? Do you want to come back? You're not sure you want to come back? Okay. We got the draft coming up. I don't know. Just feels a little too fluid for me. I need it to be a little more structured. I need to have some answers there. Chris in Syracuse. Good morning, Chris. Hey, thank you very much for getting me in. Dan. Hey, I wanted to comment. I heard the Albert Brer interview and just a comment on Bill Belichick. You know, a lot of people are saying that they shouldn't be asking him personal questions. Interview is about the book. And for Belichick, obviously it is about the book, but not the person interviewing him. Dan, Just like when you do interviews, someone who's pitching a product or a book or whatever, the sole purpose of you interviewing him is not to push that product. You owe your audience to ask some probing questions. And I really think Bill and his girlfriend had realized that going into that interview. I was surprised because usually what happens, you know, PR people will do this. They will play the role of host. These are the questions you're going to be asked. How are we going to answer it? I mean, if not, then you. I don't know what you're doing with the PR person, but that person is Bill's girlfriend. And if she's there analyzing Every question that's asked, I either tell her, you come on camera or leave the room. Because the latest report is she interrupted the interview and even delayed it 30 minutes and apparently stormed out of the room. Okay, let's set some ground rules here. I'm going to come down and interview you. This is what I want. I don't want to be surprised when I get there. I don't. I don't want this to be, hey, she's deciding what questions you're going to ask. I'd be like, no, no, no, no. That's not how it's going to work. I've had people that I've asked to leave the room when I've done an interview because one person tried to coach somebody during the interview by mouthing words or giving signals like, don't answer that question. And I had to ask the person, and I stopped the interview. It was taped. I said, I have to ask you to leave. I can't do my job here. And they didn't want to leave. The person I'm interviewing didn't want them to leave. But I said, then we don't do the interview because it was very disconcerting. I'm. I'm asking a question. Person I'm interviewing is looking over at the person who's off to the side as if to say, can I? And then they would answer and go, what. What are we doing here? We're better than this, aren't we? Let me see. Ryan in Wisconsin. Hi, Ryan. What's on your mind today? Hey, Dan, thanks for taking the call. I had a couple of best from the past weekend at the draft. I thought that Green Bay did a wonderful job. It was awesome atmospheres, amazing. But the main reason is I'm calling for my son was the one that won the Jordan Love autograph football. Oh, nice. Yeah, I wanted to call in and thank you for that. He was. It was an amazing experience for him, and that's all he could talk about for the rest of the weekend. So good. Want to call him and say thank you? Thank you, Ryan. Yeah, we gave away a Jordan Love. Great autograph, by the way. Jordan Love. He's got the heart on there and his number 10. But yeah, we gave a Jordan Love football away. And that was on Friday. Let's take a break here. We're going to play an NBA version of in or Out. That'll be coming up next here on the Dan Patrick Show. Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in the nation. And I don't mean because she won. She bled for her art. And it always felt like to me, after the Attitude era, once a wrestler gets cut and you see real blood coming out of their mouth or Real blood coming out of their head. The crowd kind of goes, hey, respect. And they kind of give you that nod, right? You go, wow, every one of these guys is bleeding, bro. That's literally like blood, sweat and tears. That's all they got is blood. We're talking Cody, we're talking Ria, Roman, Seth, Tiffany. The future of the business is bright. And that's what we are doing on Fighting Words. We're not gonna let anyone silence us. That's the reason why they're banning books like yours, George. That's the reason why they're trying to stop the teaching of black history, queer history, any history that challenges the whitewashed norm or put us in a box. Listen to Fighting words on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcast. I just received some rookie prop bets by DraftKings. Cam Ward over under 20 passing yards, touchdowns. 20 passing touchdowns. Travis Hunter over 700 receiving yards. Travis Hunter over two interceptions. Ashton Genty over under 1100 rushing yards. Abdul Carter over under eight sacks. And I've got the odds for who's going to be the number one pick next year. Arch Manning is right now. The odds on favorite, the Penn State quarterback, Drew Allar. He's right there. It's plus 200 for Arch. It's plus 225 for Drew Allar. Garrett Nussmeier is also in there. Garrett Nussmeier. Is he lsu? Yeah. Okay. Cade Clubnik, who's been in College for about six years. Dr. Club. Dr. Clubnik at Clemson. And TJ Parker. I don't know TJ Parker. Does anybody know TJ Parker? He's got the fifth best odds right now to be the number one overall pick. TJ Parker. Yes. Paulie. Clemson defensive end. Oh, dang. All right, time to play. In or out. Do we have some theme music to play in or out, Marvin? And there we go. Recap the rules. You're either in or or out. The NFL should give the Jaguars a few extra national TV games. Todd in Seaton. Did you know the question? Todd? Yes. Because with Travis Hunter, people might want to see more Jacksonville Jaguar. Okay. Didn't know if we surprised you right away. Okay. Seaton. We'll say out. Okay. Like, I'll go find them. All right. Marvin. Oh, just one early. Yeah, I'd give them one. Yeah. I don't want to have a few of them. Yeah. Be stockpiled there. I'd say one here's an in or out. And I'd like your reason why afterwards. Okay. I would like to have Draymond Green as a teammate. Todd out. Seat out. Marvin. In. I'd really have to know this situation. You're a great shooter. So I'm Steph Curry. Yeah. Okay. And it's right. I think he's important to Steph Curry. He is. If I. Okay. If I'm Steph Curry in the Golden State Warriors. Yes. Right now. Yes. Yes. Paul. Every star needs an enforcer, a person who doesn't need shots. True. And it's worked out 90% of the time with the Warriors. Yes. Yes. But. Yeah. Yes. Here we go. All right. The NBA should change the All Star game to USA versus International players going forward. Marvin. Oh, it's an awful idea. Awful. It's terrible. There's not enough great international Players that are All Star level. Josh Giddy's gonna make the All Star team. Rudy Gobert is going to be a. A time All Star. If that's the case, okay. But look out. Look what else I get there. I get. I get Shea Gilges, I get Luca, I get Joker, I get Giannis, Al Horford. Yeah. Why? Let's go. My starting five is going to be better than your starting five. But when it's time to get the bench guys in, they're going to molly the international. I'm going to have J.J. redick as the coach, and nobody gets to play. There's no reserves coming in. You could put together a hell of a team with just the international guys. Yes. Giannis, Luca, Joel Embiid. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, still. I mean, he's Kyrie. Could go that way if he wants. Oh, that's true. Yeah. I. I think my starting five, you're gonna. You're gonna have problems dealing with that. And I might tell them, guys, we really want to win. So you're gonna. You're gonna play. You're gonna play a lot more. We're gonna win this game. I'd be interested at that. Yes. Paul, do we get Canada? Yeah. So it'd be Canada, Latin America. Yeah. Would be with usa. No. No. Oh, so it's. That's why I suggest. What about. Why would Canada be part of usa? Are you doing North America? I was thinking about it. Well, they're the 51st state, so we just sort of assume that, like everything on this side, it's kind of ours. I mean, Canada would help us. Really, when you're looking at. It's kind of all ours anyway. Canada is not going to be with us. We don't need it. Marvin just said the United States doesn't need Canada with their basketball talent. I'm saying the rest of the world would gladly take sga. Yes, Marv, but what I'm saying is you're taking away All Star spots from guys that have had All Star seasons. Like I said in a. Josh Giddy and Bonyan Bondonovich is going to make the All Stars. Why are you picking those guys? Because you have to fill out the roster with international guys. I know, but you didn't go like, Bol. Bol. You went Josh Giddey. Which Ashkenny's more likely to make the All Star team than Bowl. Bowl. I know. And he's actually a pretty good player. Yeah. He's not an All Star player, though. Josh Giddy. Correct. He's a good player. He is he's a good player. That's the only reason I was saying. All right. You forgot Wemby, too. See if you're not. We're gonna bring that on in a second. Usa. Usa. I mean, wait, you're gonna deal with that front line. Come on. The Americans are going to get busy. Oh, my God. Pie to the face, international piece. Apple pie for me. Technically, if you're calling it the Americans, that could. I'd get a strudel. I'm blooping Marvin for apple pie. I. I think that'd be awesome. Okay. Jason Tatum don't scare nobody on that other side. No. Is there a more disrespected player in the NBA, it feels like, than Jason Tatum, that. That we don't let him into the. The special club? Probably not. He's not in with Joker and Giannis and you know, those guys who got their title. He's got 70 playoff wins already. Not even 27. Yes, Marvin. He also sat to mention the Olympics also. Well, but his numbers are great. He plays on a great team. They. They play in the Eastern Conference or the NBA Finals every year. He's never finished top three for mvp, but it. And it feels like he gets disrespected. Now they. They are trying to get like commercials for him. You know, they trying to make him a little bit more than what he is. I just think he's one of those guys who just a great player but doesn't have any buzz about him. Yeah, Paulie, but those commercials don't have a little kid at a store going, hey, there's Jason Tatum from the Celtics where they have to announce the person's name. He's not there. He's more famous than that. Hey, there's Jalen Brown. No, Jason Tatum. Oh, I get you guys mixed up all the time. Yes. Sorry. But going back to the all star roster, there were 25 all stars. 10 of the 13 from the east were American. 8 from the 13 on the west were American. So the majority of all star level players are Americans. The Americans are gonna slow. They're gonna kill the international team. Kill? Like. Like Miami Heat get killed? Oh, no, it's getting not that level. I mean, look at the. Look at who I put out there with my starting five. Yamar. But also, are they going to take it serious? Well, I think the European team will take it very seriously because I think it's. There's a difference between playing for the international team and playing for your actual country. Yeah, we saw that with the Olympics. Right. How important Even a bronze medal was to joker. Correct. So this isn't the Olympics. It's bigger. It just means more. Yes. It just means more. Yes. Todd, will there be a Ryder cup type passion if they turn the All Star game to that and do we really need that? Right. It gets really heated. Supposedly with the Ryder cup there's a little golf trash talk, whatever that might be. Well, they're not hitting each other with clubs. I'm with Marvin though. I think besides the Ross, I don't know if we need USA versus the world in the All Star game. I like the east versus West. Regardless of what country you come from, the game is terrible. And then just not have the All Star games. That is keep finding ways to try to get. You have to have an All Star break. There's a lot of money the NBA makes and you guys get to make appearances and you get to, you know, go to Vegas and have fun. I just think it'd be. It'd be great. It'd be great. It'd be different. It'd be different and I'm willing to try that. What else do we have in around? Okay. Weirdly, I'm rooting for the Colorado Rockies to have the most losses in Major League Baseball history. They are 4 and 24. They're on pace to have fewer than 40 wins this season, which would be the modern day record. When I say modern day, I mean like 1900 on. Well, I rooted for the White Sox too. If you're going to be the worst or attempt to be the worst, then be the worst. Now I remember Freddie Carter who played for the 76ers and they won nine games. And I remember asking if he was rooting for a team to break the, you know, the record and have eight wins. He goes no, because then people are going to forget about us. He'd rather be remembered for having been on a nine win team than somebody else who's going to come in and take your record. What else do we have in around last one. In three years, Bill Belichick will be both single and unemployed. Not wishing, just posing. Well, I, I love love. I, I think he'll be married and in the no playoffs. No, no, no. I don't think he's going to be married. Okay. What's more likely? He could be married or in the college football playoffs in three years? That old question. I'm going to say college football playoff. Okay. Seaton. It's interesting. I have a note here on my wall of post it notes. Dang. I didn't write down the date. Why do I do that? I'm the worst at this. But it says 1150. Bill Belichick, marriage. So we've talked about Bill recently enough that I took note of it. Is the question married or in the College Football Playoff? Course. Yeah, I think he's going to be in the playoff. I'm taking that. All right, Marv. College Football Playoff. Yeah, I guess if I had to choose, I would say that I don't think he's going to get married. Shouldn't marry your employees anyway. Isn't there a policy, some networks let you date, you know, shouldn't do that. Is that it, Paul? I'm going married. I want to go counter. Oh, okay. You think he's going to be married? Yeah, I don't know whether he likes it or not. Damn. You see him with a tuxedo walking down the aisle, sleeves cut off? Yeah. Yes, Todd. She could basically tell him we're getting married. So you're going to say, I do. This is the date and this is how it's going to work. I'm your publicist, slash fiance is what we're doing. Thank you, Todd. Ippy. I think that's how it's spelled here on the screen. Ippy in Iowa. You are correct. And it is zippy. And I need some clarification with the Pete Rose thing. Okay. It was always my understanding that he was banned from baseball, meaning that he could never work for MLB or have anything to do with mlb. Yes. There's no tie to MLB and the hall of Fame. True. So, man, Manfred can go and say, hey, yeah, we're lifting the band for mlb. Still doesn't mean that he gets into the hall of Fame. So there needs to be little bit of discussion with that. Well, I. I think if we get to that point, the hall of Fame will acquiesce to whatever Major League Baseball asked them to do and the commission. So the commissioner is involved, but you have the President of the United States involved in this. He's not going to just go, hey, Pete should be in the hall of Fame, and then let it go. I think he's going to see this through as far as he can, and maybe you're going to be able to get him reinstated so he's on the ballot. But I think there's other things at play here with the president and the Commissioner of Baseball. Eric and Tucson. Hi, Eric. What's on your mind today? Good morning, Dan. Hey. Kind of tagging on to the previous caller just in regards to Pete Rose. And I know How I'm going to sound before I say this, so give me a little bit of leeway on it. But do the rules not matter? I mean, there's. There's one rule. I'm just. Hold on, hold on, man. Hold on, hold on, hold on. Just hear me out. Hear me out. Wow. There's one sign in Major League Baseball. That's a. We just lost him. We just lost him. He just. He asked for a little leeway, so that's immediately my cue to jump down. Down his throat. Oh, come on. Are you. It was like it was the wind up, and then we didn't get the pitch. And that's why I meant that. Yes, there is a sign on every locker room, Major League Baseball, about gambling. But at some point, you might say, has he paid the price? Feels like no matter what you do in life, there's a price you pay. And then after you've paid your price, your debt to society, then we allow you. We love a comeback story. Pete paid a price. Pete's not around, you do it posthumously. I think it's going to happen. I agree. I understand gambling. And was Pete betting against his team, for his team? It doesn't matter. He was still gambling. Don in San Antonio. Hi, Don. Good morning, Dan. How you guys doing? Great to hear you and talk to you. Great. Yeah. You were talking about Quinn, yours a little while ago. He is revered up at that 40 acres in Austin, Texas. And he decided on his own, according to the San Antonio Express News, that he didn't want to tarnish the image that he had developed in University of Texas and take an nil deal at Oregon or any other place. And he was quite comfortable within an NFL draft not knowing how high he would be selected because he'd been injured all year. And Sarcasian kept on playing him. And the only controversy at all was some sports writers and a lot of fans thought, why isn't Archman him playing more? But Quinn, yours from all accounts, is one of the finest young men that university ever had planned for him. So I just thought you and your audience ought to know. Thank you, Don. Although, if I asked Quinn yours today and you could do it all over again, knowing what you know, you're going to go in the seventh round because he might have said, hey, I'm going to roll the dice. Maybe I go in the second or third round. Well, you went in the seventh round. Would you have decided to maybe take that money from Oregon or Notre Dame? Miles in Waco. Hi, Miles. What's on your mind? Hey, Dp. Thanks for taking the call. I want to bring it back to the Bill Belichick discussion. And the question I have for you is, what is the most shocking interaction that you've had in an interview? Whether it be something they said they did, just something that really caught you off guard that you weren't prepared for. I don't think there's anything I've been unprepared for. The only shocking part, and it wasn't part of the interview, but it was in. In the context of an interview, when I talked to O.J. simpson, and I was just talking to him about football. And then when we stopped and my cameraman changed tapes, that's when it came up where he asked me if I thought he did it. Now, during the downtime of getting a tape put in the camera and taking one out, we were just talking, and he was telling me how crazy his life was, and he goes, you have no idea how crazy my life is. And, I mean, I. I didn't say anything. He wanted. He wanted to tell me that he did not murder his ex wife. He. He wanted. He wanted that conversation, and I was not going to give that to him. But he kept saying, he goes, you know, I'll walk by a hotel room in Vegas and they're shooting a porn. And then they go, come on in. Do you want to be part of a porn? And he goes, that's how crazy my life is. I'm thinking, okay. And I'm not answering him because I. I just don't want to engage with him. I don't want to give him a platform here. I made a mistake of doing the interview and just talking football with O.J. that's on me. I. I take it, and I have to eat it. But then he says to me, do you think I did it? Camera's not rolling. Do you think I did it? And I said, what? Did what? Because I wanted him to say that murder those two people. And then I said, yes. So if you want to say shocking or awkward, yes, but it wasn't part of the interview. But it was one of those moments where I'm like, I don't think he can kill me. They actually did think that. I'm like, what? What's the worst thing that could happen? He might say, I'm not going to do the rest of the interview. Which, okay, at that point, I've already made a mistake of just talking to him about football. But he brought it up, and I gave him an answer. Yes. Todd, was that eerie or odd or insensitive? That he referred to them as those two people. He can't even say the name of his ex wife and mother of children. Oh, I think there were a lot of other things to nitpick OJ on that he didn't say it was his ex wife. The fact that he did it. My camera guy was on a shoot with O.J. in Mexico. They were shooting a TV show and he had a Navy SEAL knife. And my cameraman, so my cameraman says to me, hey, when he comes in, I'm not shaking his hand. And I said, I won't put you in that situation because they were in Mexico with O.J. and O.J. had this Navy SEAL knife that he was in love with. Like, they, it was something that they just fixated on the sound guy and the camera guy. And they were like, you know, we were with this guy. Now, I don't know if there's any correlation there. I just know that they were, what they saw and felt in Mexico was still with them. But yeah, and O.J. came in, he wasn't as imposing. Like he, he was kind of hunched over, not intimidating at all. But, you know, he still came in as O.J. he's like, you know, hey, you know, thanks for having me. You should see what I could do with that thing. Hey, D.P. oh, man. All right, let me take a break. Here's something for you. I mentioned Jayson Tatum before. He's got 70 playoff wins. He's one of seven players to reach this mark by the age of 27. Magic Kobe, Tony Parker, Jalen Brown, Kawhi Leonard and LeBron James. This is the start of the day brought to you by Panini. The official trading cards of the program this day in sports history. Paul, got a couple for you. The 1941 the Boston Bees agreed to change their name to the Braves. 1961 ABC's Wide World of Sports premiered. 1985, Billy Martin was brought back for the fourth time as manager of the New York Yankees. And how about this? 1988, the Baltimore Orioles set the new major league record by losing their first 21 games of the season. Ouch. I was there covering when Billy Martin came back 1985. And you know, I didn't, I'd never been to New York. I didn't grow up a New York sports fan. And I lied to my bosses when they said, you know, have you been to New York? And I said, yes, of course. And then I went up there and became the sports reporter at cnn. And I remember going out to Yankee Stadium and you know, back then you had the big time columnist there and you know, you're a talking hairdo, you're trying to get interviews. There are a lot of intimidating people there in New York. And yeah, I mean, it was great because you get your butt kicked and then it'll toughen you up a little bit. But I remember being around Billy Martin and you just never knew what you were going to get. It was fascinating. But one time I smelled alcohol in his breath. And you're like this before a game, like maybe, maybe this is what it takes to be a manager with George Steinbrenner. Eric in Tucson. Eric is back. Eric made it back. Hi, Eric. I am Hope. Hey, morning. Thanks, Dan. Appreciate you give me back on. And I'm hoping I got Hung up by Marvin, because that would be a personal accomplishment. But what I was trying to say is that at some point, there's a sign in every major league locker room. I don't really care if the guy goes in the hall of Fame or not one way or the other. But that sign is very clear. It's very direct. It speaks to probably the worst situation that Major League baseball went through in the late 1900s, or, I'm sorry, the mid-1919, 1920 time frame with the Black Sox. And if you're not going to hold people accountable to that, then what's the point of even having it? Especially in today's age with gambling everywhere, how are you going to hold anyone accountable going forward? If you just give them a certain period of time and then whatever that thing that you would hope would keep them from committing this act, gambling as a punishment would keep them as a deterrent from doing it. But then you let that go, that deterrence is gone. Oh, I know. I agree with you. Like, would I put him on the ballot? I wouldn't, but I'm not running baseball if it's a permanent ban. That's the difference. If it's a lifetime ban, then he would. You could bring him back and put him on the ballot because it's in his lifetime. Permanent is permanent. That's where you have to change the language as you move forward. If. If you want to punish people. But for how long do you punish them? All right, now let's go around the room. By the way, on this date in 1986, Bo Jackson was the first pick of the NFL Draft. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Bo, of course, playing baseball and then went to the Raiders. Todd, what'd you learn today? You thought the 49ers would work out a deal with their QB Brock Purdy before tight end George Kittle. Seaton, what'd you learn tonight? USAV International is a hot topic around here. Hey, I'm ready to go. Sign me up. Marvin, you think Rudy Gobert is the most overrated player in the NBA? God, Paul. George Kittle got paid. Todd, what did I learn? The Pacers can score. They're dangerous. Do not sleep on Indiana. Have a great day, everybody. Thanks for joining us. Our pleasure to serve you for Fritzy Seaton, Marv, Paulie, yours truly. We'll talk to you tomorrow. The episode, titled "Hour 3 – Marriage Advice, International Hoops," interweaves poignant conversations with passionate sports debates, providing listeners with both heartfelt guidance and insightful sports analysis.
1. Pete Rose and the Baseball Hall of Fame Debate
A significant portion of the episode centers around the contentious topic of Pete Rose’s potential induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame (HOF). Dan Patrick opens this segment with a poll question addressing whether allowing Pete Rose to enter the HOF posthumously is a kind gesture or a cruel act. This sparks a vibrant debate among the callers, each presenting nuanced viewpoints.
Caller Perspectives:
Todd (Seaton): Expresses mixed feelings, acknowledging the kindness of Rose’s potential induction but questioning its cruelty. (Timestamp: 20:30)
"I want to see him get in, but my first inclination is cruel. Let him in after he dies so he can't appreciate everything that comes with that."
Marvin: Aligns with Todd, deeming posthumous induction cruel and emphasizing Rose’s permanent ban due to gambling issues. (Timestamp: 21:15)
"I think it's cruel also. All right, Paul. Cruel. He should have always been on the ballot."
Paul: Agrees with the cruelty aspect, suggesting that Rose should have been on the ballot from the start. (Timestamp: 21:45)
"He should have always been on the ballot. Seaton. Yeah. Intentionally cruel."
Dan Patrick’s Insights:
Dan analyzes the possibility of MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred revising Rose’s ban and the implications of presidential involvement in the decision. (Timestamp: 23:00)
"I think if you put him on the ballot and he... he would get into the hall of Fame. And then it comes down to, well, what about the steroid guys?"
He also draws parallels between Rose’s situation and other controversial figures, highlighting the complexities of character assessment in Hall of Fame considerations. (Timestamp: 25:30)
"If you're going to be fair. As far as steroids go, I think the younger group of reporters... it's still, you know..."
2. Marriage Advice Segment
Shifting gears, the show transitions into a heartfelt marriage advice segment, sparked by a caller named Lucas from Texas. Lucas offers unsolicited programming advice, suggesting that the show develop a dedicated webpage for viewers seeking advice on fatherhood, proposals, and weddings.
Lucas’s Suggestions:
"You guys should create a webpage and say, go to here, dp.com dpshow.com how to. Or something."
Dan’s Response:

"You'll make that decision in your head and then start having children. You got to make sure you're like, I feel 100 about this thing."
Group Consensus: The panel collectively emphasizes the necessity of genuine affection and mutual respect as cornerstones of a successful marriage.
3. International Hoops: NBA All-Star Game Redefinition
The latter part of the episode delves into an avid discussion about the future of the NBA All-Star Game, proposing a shift from the traditional East vs. West format to a USA versus International players setup. This idea ignites a spirited debate among Dan and his panelists.
Proposal Overview:
"The NBA should change the All Star game to USA versus International players going forward."
Panel Reactions:
Marvin: Criticizes the idea, arguing that it may not feature enough high-caliber international players to sustain competitive balance. (Timestamp: 40:30)
"It's an awful idea. Awful. It's terrible. There's not enough great international Players that are All Star level."
Paul: Defends the potential of international players, highlighting stars like Josh Giddey and Rudy Gobert as valuable additions. (Timestamp: 41:10)
"Josh Giddy's gonna make the All Star team. Rudy Gobert is gonna be a time All Star."
Todd: Explores the logistical challenges and the implications of integrating non-American players into a separate team, considering factors like national identity and team dynamics. (Timestamp: 42:00)
Marvin’s Counterpoints: Emphasizes the dominance of American players in current All-Star selections and questions the feasibility of such a format shift. (Timestamp: 42:30)
