Calendar is available while supplies last@danpatrick.com all right, Dylan, you got the honors here. Final hour poll question.
Paulie
All right, well, we'll recap the the.
Dan Patrick
Last hour, Dan, which was simply, will Lane Kiffin win a title at LSU? 75% say no. Okay. I'm rooting for the content of it, that either way, I win. Because if he wins a title, we'll talk about it. If he doesn't win a title and ends up going to another place, we'll talk about that as well. What else do you have that would be funny if LSU's on the hook for another big buyout in a couple years. Feels like, I mean, Michigan State just got rid of their head coach. They're on the hook for what, $30 million? I mean, it feels like, you know, everybody, every one of these schools, that the buyout doesn't seem that much. But if we fire you, the buyout is a whole lot. I think Lane Kiffin's buyout at ole Ms. Was $4 million. Is that right, Paulie?
Paulie
Yeah. Four million they have to pay, you know, LSU to Ole Ms. If they fired him, like you said, it was 36 and a half million.
Dan Patrick
See, why, why there is there such a discrepancy between those two Now, I don't understand that, but there's a lot of things I don't understand about college football. But, yes, I still love college football. That's why I kind of rant against the system. I rage against the machine because it can be better. And maybe we just get to the NFL model. I think we're eventually going to get there. Why don't we just get there? Okay? Then everybody's above board. Coaches aren't leaving during the season. You know, your nil will be your, you know, have your salary cap. You know, that it just feels like we're headed in that direction or I would love to have an overall commissioner for college football. I would, I would settle for that right now. Greg. Sankey, no, Greg Sankey doesn't want that headache. But if you had somebody and you said, all right, you're running college football, or at least you're running, you're overseeing 50 schools, the main schools here, then that maybe we could get a path to sanity here.
Paulie
Yeah, Paulie, the only thing about, and I think everyone agrees with you, that this college football needs more regulations, more guard rules, guardrails and structure. But the content provided by the wild west that is college football is fascinating. You have people at Ole Mrs. Airport screaming at Lane Kiffin as he's going out of town. I'll never forget that video I saw yesterday. And it's like college football is like that neighborhood dive bar where it smells bad and it's not up to code but you don't want them to remodel because it's so entertaining. It's this weird entertaining and it's the antithesis of the squeaky clean NFL that's organized.
Dan Patrick
8773-D-3Dp Show Email address DP danpatrick.com A couple of phone calls in here and I'm looking at these stats. First time in NFL history, five division races either tied or within a half game through week 13. Eight teams currently. 500 or better that missed the playoffs last year. Feels, feels like every year we look at at least three or four teams who didn't make the playoffs who then make the playoffs. Patriots, Seahawks, Bears, Niners, Jags, Colts, Cowboys and the Panthers. Here's Dak Prescott talking about back to back wins by the Cowboys over the Chiefs and the Eagles in a span of four days. Having to get these wins against two elite teams. I mean the two teams that played in the super bowl last year, last year's last year. But you're talking about two organizations that obviously know how to win and we just beat them both in two great games, as you said, in four days. And just showing the resiliency of this unit, of this brotherhood on top of everything that we've been through. Yeah, I don't know if there's been two more impressive wins, but I can tell you right now that we're not going to just sit on some high because of that. We know we've got a big one coming again next week and all this really does for us is just give us more confidence knowing that we can go play with whoever they lost to. The Cardinals and Panthers, I think back to back weeks and everybody bailed on them. Now Carolina is better than what we thought just asked the Rams, but it feels like like if you're going to say, would you be surprised if the Giants beat the Patriots? I wouldn't be because I've come to expect the unexpected. I don't think there's a great team right now in the NFL. I think everybody's fallible. And on that given day, if you're playing from west coast to east coast or you're playing at night, you're playing on a short work week. I mean all of these things factor in the injuries. Everybody's got injuries, but it's pretty amazing. That's why the NFL is undefeated. There's always a storyline. Zach and Knoxville. Hi Zach. What's on your mind today?
Caller
Adp, thanks for taking my call. What's on my mind is that we ended a year, four year streak of losing to that team up north. So just want to tell the lady that lets two houses down for me that I know is a Michigan fan that flipped me off Saturday around 11am her and the whole, whole state of Michigan can suck it. And do you think Ohio State's an elite team? Since we're talking about elite teams, Do.
Dan Patrick
I think what now with Ohio State.
Caller
Are they an elite team? Know that they haven't been getting the respect or talk that, that they deserve. I feel like throughout this whole year. Do you think Ohio State's an elite team?
Dan Patrick
Yeah. In fact, I said it from the start, I thought they would be better this year than last year. And you know, you take care of business against Michigan at Michigan, who came in like an oh, by the way, what? Nine and two. But you know Ohio State can be an elite team. Yes.
Marvin
Marvin and Ryan day off, the hot seat. He doesn't have to win a national title. He just beat Michigan. He's all right.
Dan Patrick
If he had lost to Michigan again. Oh, gosh. Gus in LA. Hi, Gus. What's on your mind?
Caller
Good morning, Mr. Patrick. Hope you and the boys had a great Thanksgiving weekend worth of the weekend as everyone's been ringing the damn bell all morning. My fifth birth Steelers. You know what, either they got to get rid of Art Smith or I think it's time for Mike Tomlin to, you know, to hit that happy trail, you know, bomb voyage. But one of them's got to go. Best of the weekend. It's kind of like a moot point. You know, USC goes nine and three, but at the same time it's like, you know, nine and three really, is that really like successful? We're going to end up in like a decent bowl, but we had a higher aspiration than that Lincoln Riley, if we're not in the football playoff next year, it's hot seat for him. Bonus Best of the weekend. Parson Palmer, first year head coach in high school, goes out and wins the state football championship in a division where there were two nationally ranked football teams. Congratulations to Mr. Palmer. He you boys have a great week.
Dan Patrick
Alrighty. Thank you, Gus. Kevin in Ohio. Hi, Kev. What's on your mind, Dan?
Caller
How are you?
Dan Patrick
Good, sir.
Caller
Good. Listen, I'm kind of curious about your opinion how the Big Ten officiating crew handled the headbutting of one of their officials by the Michigan player. And do you feel that that's sending a bad message, that you're not protecting officials in any sport?
Dan Patrick
I just want to know what the reasoning was. Was it accidental? I mean, it's a bad look. Bad look. And it's right there. You can see him, you know, hitting the official in the nose. But I don't know if I saw any kind of reasoning behind it. Was it accidental?
Paulie
Yeah, Paul, I watched it live and they replayed it. And you always want to give benefit of doubt to the player, but he turns and he was, he was kind of hyped up and he leans in hard to the ref and I don't see how it's accidental. And again, you want to give him benefit of the doubt, but it looked like he was, he was getting in his face and he got a little too close and made contact.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I mean, I, it, it would have been a penalty and I would have, you know, flirted with throwing him out of the game, but it, you know, I needed, I need to understand it in the context of how did it get to that point, you know, was it just an accident, you know, that he got fired up and he was just leaning in. Dane in Texas. Hi, Dane. What's on your mind today?
Caller
Oh, good morning, Dan. How are you?
Dan Patrick
Good, sir.
Caller
Yes, I have a poll question. I'd also like your opinion on this. And this is what event will happen first, the NCAA does something about the coaching portal Vegas and Sport books are forced to do something about prop bets or your last DP show. Take care.
Dan Patrick
The prop bets that is in the works. And I'm shocked that it took this long. Prop bets for college kids. Terrible, terrible. You know, because that's where, hey, this isn't a big deal. Nobody's watching this game or this, you know, in this conference. And so what if I do this? I can make a couple hundred bucks. That's how it starts. And if you look at 18 to 24. Those are your gamblers. Those are people who, you know the number of people have a problem with gambling. Right there. That is your window away from home. Might have a credit card. Not a big deal. This how it starts out. I can speak firsthand. Andy in Denver. Hi, Andy. What's on your mind?
Caller
Oh, Dan, I'm so happy to talk to you. Every time I talk to you I feel like I'm standing in front of a statue of square jawed greatness. You're just fantastic. Your interviews are a lesson to be learned. How you can ask the right question, then just get out of the way. It's always been impressive to me. Anyway, I would like your take on the personal foul in the Broncos game last night. Like 15 yards for pulling somebody off of a one pile scrum. It didn't make sense. I'll take your thoughts. Thank you.
Dan Patrick
I don't, I don't remember seeing that. Todd, did you. Do you know the place?
Marvin
I know it was happening while I was on the plane and I was getting in and out service, but I saw, I saw a blurry image of something and of course I'm biased. It looked like that was a little too egregious by the refs and calling a penalty on that. And I did read some things saying if anything it should have been on Washington that they caught the wrong guy during that moment.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, sorry, Andy. Thank you for the call, but I don't remember seeing that. There's always going to be moments because there's so many games that we watch. When you think about it and the officials. There are times when you're watching and you're going, are, am I watching the same game that they're officiating? Because there are times when I go, this doesn't make sense at all. Yeah, Paul.
Paulie
There was a play last night where Marcus Mariota was rolling right and the defender for the Broncos kicked his leg out and tripped him and knocked him on the ground and killed a big play and actually went. They didn't call the penalty or would have been a first down. The ref is like a foot away. I mean he's, he's right there and you're. And the announcer is trying to be friendly the rest, but it's right there.
Dan Patrick
Who had the best win of the weekend? Let's just do NFL best win of the weekend. Panthers upsetting the Rams. Bears over the Eagles. Niners beat the Brown Snow Jags. But I would say the Cowboys with two wins in four days, Bills in the way they played against the Steelers, Bears beating the Eagles and then college football. Texas over A M. Ohio State. Winning dandy over Tennessee was sneaky good. Miami over Pitt. I would. I would say Ohio State just because what's attached to that regular season, you gotta beat Michigan. You're still going to be in the playoffs and would still be the team to beat the Texas against A M. That certainly got my attention. Let's see Devin in Pittsburgh. Hey, Devin.
Caller
Hey, good morning, Dan. How are you today?
Dan Patrick
Good.
Caller
I'm headed in for four kids. I'm heading in for a vasectomy tomorrow. Wonder if you're gonna run me up real quick.
Dan Patrick
To. To run you. Hey. Oh, man. Okay, so you're. You're going in and how long does the process take?
Caller
I have to get another procedure done because I have a kidney stone. So I'm going in for a two for one right now, so it should be about a half hour.
Dan Patrick
Damn, that kidney stone stuff. No joke.
Caller
No joke at all. No.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Yeah. Yep. Well, they usually say to me, you got to let it run its course, and that's not pleasant. But. And, you know, you'll hear guys saying, this is as close to childbirth as we'll ever get. If that's the case, the population would be cut in half because we're wimpy. But, hey, Devin, I did a colonoscopy and I did a hernia surgery. They just flipped me over. I did that in the same day. So good luck with that.
Paulie
Like, you're on a spit. They just rolled you.
Dan Patrick
I was rotisserie. Yeah. I was like, you know, chicken and be like, all right, colonoscopy. All right, sports hernia. Johnny in Riverside. Hey, Johnny.
Caller
Good morning, fellas. Happy holidays. I just got a quick rap song for you guys. It goes.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Caller
All right, here it goes. Dan, Pauly, Marvin. Seeing Todd Fritz bringing you that. Real talk and some nonsense. That's why I listen to them real early in the morning, because they gonna wake me up while the mother's leaving, snoring. Thank you, fellas.
Dan Patrick
Have a good one.
CJ Toledano
Pretty good.
Dan Patrick
Thank you, John. Thank you. Okay. I like that.
Paulie
Spit and rhyme.
Dan Patrick
Brevity is what we should take away from that. Right, Todd?
Marvin
Yeah, Just get right to the point. Keep it tight.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, yeah. Got in.
Marvin
Nobody likes someone that just rambles on endlessly saying a bunch of nothing.
Dan Patrick
Jay in Delaware joins us on the program. Hi, Jay.
Caller
Hey, Dan. Hey, fellas. Hope you all had a great holiday weekend. Was calling real quick for my best and worst of the weekend. My best is watch out and my niners they're on a roll. And the first time in 41 years that we won in Cleveland. I was happy. I know, Dan, you said it was the Browns, but I was happy to get that, that monkey off of our back. Man, it's been rough the last few years watching them go in there and lose off of a miss field goal or something like that. Second best of the weekend, Kurto is gone and Swag Purdy is back. I don't know if y' all saw his little dance in the end zone doing the Dougie. It was great to see. Just it was a good team win in my opinion. And worst of the weekend is just the whole Ole Miss debacle. Completely disappointed in Lane Pippen's decision. You know, I saw the documentary like you did and I saw real joy on his face during the egg bowl. But I hate to say it, I hope that egg bowl is the last trophy he wins now that he went to lsu.
Dan Patrick
Thank you, Jay. All right, we'll take a break. We'll talk a little more college football. Penn State still needs a head coach. Got a few of these coaches that some are in a playoff playing for their conference championship, but the coaches have already left the building. We'll have more on that coming up. Also more of your phone calls. Best and worst to the weekend 8773 DP show. We're back after this. Be sure to catch the live edition of the Dan Patrick show, weekdays at.

Dan Patrick
Well, who would you pick in king.
CJ Toledano
Of the court NBA right now, yourself included.
Dylan
Nobody's beating me one on one.
CJ Toledano
Okay, what's your strategy if you're going.
Dylan
Two guys, the NBA guys. This is a call out to any and everybody. Nobody's beating me one on one in basketball. Give me a nice ref. Like we're not just gonna be fighting each other. Nobody's beating me one on one. You could be six' eleven. Wemby might beat me.
CJ Toledano
But if it's Wemby, if you're just.
Dylan
Pulling up on threes, you know, Wemby might. You get the first. That's the only one. Anybody else? It's gonna be a tough. It's gonna be a little tough situation for anybody.

Com. More of your phone calls coming up. Andy Staples was at Ohio State Michigan on Saturday, will be in Nashville this weekend and then he'll be attending a first round college football playoff game. And he covers college football for on three sports. All right. We had a lot of conversation, we had a lot of build up and then we had the end result with Lane Kiffin leaving to go to lsu. Anybody win.
Dylan
Here? Oh, I think LSU feels like they won. They certainly got the guy they wanted. They got the guy everybody wanted because remember Florida wanted him too. Ole Miss wanted to keep him. And LSU probably will wind up having the same defensive staff, which they're very excited about. That Lane Kiffin probably retains those guys. He then comes in and fixes the offense and all of a sudden you got a team that should be competitive every year to potentially make the College Football Playoff, to potentially win a national title. Now here's the catch. Lane Kevin had to leave a team that is actually in the College Football Playoff. And that is the rub. Like you leave for a conference rival. And remember LSU is a bitter rival of Ole Miss. There are some Ole Miss fans who think LSU is a bigger rival than Mississippi State. Ole Miss is never going to let the LSU coach work for Ole Miss, even for a.
Dan Patrick
Month. Well, there are certainly people there's Certainly analysts that I saw this weekend who thought, hey, why don't you let him coach? And I don't think I would not have him coach my team. If I'm the athletic director at Ole Miss, I'd say, nope, you made your decision. Go. And don't act like you're the victim here. You, you, you can't use leverage that you're going to take coaches and players. If you don't let him coach this team in the playoffs, as has been reported, I'd say, hey, see, you keep your tray in an upright, locked position when you fly out on that private.
Dylan
Jet. Yeah. And the middle fingers saluting him on the way out were told you the story. Yeah. Ole Miss could not let him hold them hostage. That was not going to work. It was a non starter. There are other situations where coaches are leaving schools, like John Sumrall at Tulane, Eric Morris at North Texas. Morris is going to Oklahoma State. Summerall is going to Florida. The winner of their game Friday is playing in the playoff, and the guy who coaches that team will coach them in the playoff. But it's different when you're going from North Texas to Oklahoma State or, or Tulane to Florida. When you're going from ole Ms. To LSU, you can't do it. And I found it hilarious that Nick Saban kept saying, let him coach. Nick Saban fired Lane Kiffin after the 2016 season. He, Lane Kiffin takes the Florida Atlantic head coaching job. He's the Alabama offensive coordinator. He coaches the Peach Bowl. And between the Peach bowl and the national title game, Nick Saban fired his ass. And now Nick Saban's like, sure, just let him coach. What could possibly go wrong? Like, of all the people, you know what can.
Dan Patrick
Happen, why were all these analysts. It feels like carrying water for Lane Kiffin that, hey, he should be able to coach. I understand that. I don't want this to hurt our seating in the college football playoffs. You know, we, we ding teams for losing their quarterbacks. That would be the only reason why I would say, all right, we'll let you coach, but only because we don't. We don't want, we want to host a playoff.
Dylan
Game. I can't tell you why the game day desk all did.
Dan Patrick
That. I.
Dylan
Can'T. I mean, my guess is personal relationships with Lane Kiffin and they want to cultivate those and keep those healthy. Obviously, it's a different for Nick Saban since they used to work together. But for the other guys that look, Lane Kiffin's the most entertaining, polarizing, interesting figure in college football. And if you work on college football's biggest show, you want to maintain a good relationship. I suppose that's the only excuse I can think of, because if they talk to any athletic directors, and we did, there's not one who would have let him coach Ole Miss through the.
Dan Patrick
Playoff. All right, what's Penn State.
Dylan
Doing? That is a great question. I, I. All I could think of is the judge. Smales, while we're waiting, as all the other dominoes were falling, the only thing I can think of is they've got somebody in mind who's maybe coaching in a conference championship game this week and doesn't want to do anything until after that happens. That's the only thing I can think of. And that that leads you to a few names. So Bob Chesney is the James Madison coach, and he's a name that I've been saying for about a month because if you look at Chesney's job history, northeast guy went D3, D2, FCS, FBS successful everywhere. It's kind of the Kurt Signetti path. And you'd have thought, okay, from James Madison, his next logical step is like Syracuse or Boston College. But why, why would you have to wait for him to coach Syracuse or Boston College for two years? He would have ended up at Penn State anyway. Like, just get him now. The other one I thought of, and it's kind of a wild hair, but he's a really good coach, and I think people just assume he's not movable. Is Kalani Sataki at byu? He's at his alma mater. And maybe he's not movable. Maybe he's just really happy there. But a chance to coach at an elite of elite programs, that's one. I would certainly talk to him if I were Penn State because I think he's an excellent coach, but that's the only other one in the championship games I can think of. Other than maybe Ohio State offensive coordinator Brian Hartline, who kind of the Urban Meyer path. He was the receivers coach. He's the OC now, but not really a play caller in his history, but receivers coach, slash ace recruiter, and maybe one of the best recruiters in the country and definitely the best receivers coach in the country. I can see him being ready to move up to a coaching job. I didn't know if the jump that big would work, but he's one I would have talked to as.
Dan Patrick
Well. What's the NCAA do with this hiring window? How do they kind of prevent.
Dylan
This? Well, there's an Easy fix. But the coaches don't want it. See, that's the thing. The coaches like to blame the NCAA for this stuff. The NCAA and well, the committees that, that come up with these ideas. They've already come up with an idea that would work. You bring high school signing day back to February where it was just have one there. You eliminate spring practice. You create an OTA type system that starts in May. In the first summer term, you move the, the transfer portal window into the spring and, and players can leave in April or whatever. The coaches didn't want that. The coach was like I want my team fixed by January. That the coaches want to move between December and January. The players want to move between December and January too because that's the semester break. And by the way, the NCAA is not changing that because you'd have to move Christmas and I don't think they're that powerful. So if the coaches ever want to come around on it, that's fine. But if they insist that they want their team by January, then they get to be the villains in this. They don't get to blame the NCAA for.
Dan Patrick
It. Yeah, but the, the current Messi system is great for coverage, it's great for.
Dylan
Content. It's not though D someone who covers this year round, I listen Ian.
Dan Patrick
Rapaport. Wait, you're yelling. Love the guy.
Dylan
Yelling. Ian used to be a college, college football writer so he understands my plight. I'm like, I'm like rap sheet. You guys have the best calendar because you have the playoffs, the super bowl, the coaching carousel, free agency, OTAs like it never stops. It's perfect. We have all the interesting stuff packed into December. I had a show yesterday, Dan, that would have filled a month's worth of off season shows. I had to do it an.
Dan Patrick
Hour and a half talking to Andy Staples. Covers college football for on three sports. Make a case for Texas making the.
Dylan
Playoffs. It's tough because they're so far down right now and, and I think really they're. They're aced out. But of the nine and three teams they would have the best case. And here's why. Look at 10 and 2 Vanderbilt. If you're going to consider 10 and 2 Vanderbilt, consider 9 and 3 Texas, which beat Vanderbilt head to head. Which has a better best win? Texas A M. And also can make the complaint that if you don't pick them you are discouraging scheduling tough non conference games because their marquee non conference game was at Ohio State which they lost 14 7. Vanderbilt's marquee non conference game was at Virginia Tech, which they won. If Texas had gone to Blacksburg, they also would have won. So. Or Texas had just scheduled Rice or somebody like that, they would have won. So if you were to pick the other team that didn't schedule as hard, then you are discouraging that. And I don't want that to be discouraged and I don't think anybody else does. I want a Texas Ohio State game to start the season. So if it came to that, I would hope they would pick Texas. I think Texas and Vandy unfortunately are kind of boxed out at this point. So I don't know if it even comes to.
Dan Patrick
That. If Arch would come out, do you think he'd be the number one quarterback.
Dylan
Taken? No. No, I don't. He's got work to do now. He can grow into what would be an effective NFL quarterback. He can grow into what would be a very high draft pick. But he needs to get better. If you watch even the A and M game where he played pretty well, he misses a lot of easy throws still. And, and those are throws that NFL quarterbacks don't miss. Those are throws that Fernando Mendoza at Indiana doesn't miss. And Fernando Mendoza is one that I think the NFL people are going to be very excited about. He has the prototypical size and you've seen him in crunch time like at Penn State where he's making unbelievable throws. That's what they're looking for. Arch can be that. I'm just not sure he's there yet. And I imagine his support system is telling him, hey, more starts in college can get you.
Dan Patrick
There. Great to talk to you as always. We'll talk to you soon. Thank you.
Dylan
Andy. Thanks.
Dan Patrick
Dan. That's Andy Staples. He's fired up. Damn it. We got all this content, you know, end of November, early December. He's right though. The NFL has it. You know, they got got it down. They can tell a story. And in this month we tell this story and this month we tell this story. College football is like, here it goes. See if you can digest this. Andy covers College football for On3Sports. Dave in Cincinnati. Hi, Dave. What's on your mind.
Caller
Today? Hey, Dan. Always a pleasure to talk to you guys. Yeah, best of the weekend was. Well, all I have for my Browns is at least Miles got a sack this weekend. That's my best. Worst of the weekend is what's been the worst the last few weekends is not hearing hearing the. The song the Free Frame. Marvin singing the refrain of the I don't want to work that sets my weekend on fire. So I got to hear that this week. And the rain thing, I've. I've been in the industry for about 30 plus years, and it's amazing to me that when speaks to people, he never calls them to a smaller church or a smaller.
Dan Patrick
School. All right, thank you, Dave. I just know he said he talked to God, and I swear I thought he was talking about Nick Saban. And then he mentioned Nick Saban, and then I realized that he actually is telling us he had a conversation with God. Like, you can't argue, criticize that, can you? Now think about it. Hey, why did you go? God told me. Okay, all right, you got me. Yeah.
Paulie
Paul. It's just, you look at a guy like him and, and he was so embraced at Ole Miss. And we brought up Mark Few from Gonzaga before. I'm sure Mark few years ago got tons of big offers.
Dan Patrick
But. Well.
Dylan
Ucla.
Paulie
Yeah. I mean, that's as big as it gets in college basketball history. And. But he stayed and got them really, really close. Did they get it all done? No, but he's. They're going to build a statue out there and he's a legend in the community. And I don't know, that's. That's almost as good as winning a title someplace when on your fifth.
Dan Patrick
Stop, Lane isn't wired that.
Paulie
Way.
Dan Patrick
Yep. He's not. He's not. And, and once again, everybody's like, oh, you know you would take another job. Okay. When I was at espn, my contract was up. I had two weeks left, and I said I was going to leave. And I said, but I would like to do two weeks of radio. So, you know, I could say thanks to the affiliates who carried the show. And they were like, nope, not going to. They started to let me do that, and then they're like, no. And I understood it. I was leaving. You're at the door. And I was out the door. So I, I don't begrudge Lane Kiffin for finding a better job. I have a problem with how he found his better job, that's all. And I think college football can fix this if college football wants to fix this. Alex in Wisconsin. Hi, Alex. What's on your.

That. Yep. Best of the weekend is the Cowboys finishing off both super bowl teams in four days. We're going to the Super Bowl. It's guaranteed worse of the weekend was this 14 inches of snow we got in Iowa. Pretty brutal. I guess that's just a regular week in Buffalo, though. That's all the time I have for today, fellas. Until next.
Dan Patrick

Weekend. First time, long time, 6ft 185. Put me in, coach. So a popular thing in South Africa, instead of saying, how are you? Is, are you winning? Which brings me to the sorry ass Sixers. Now to be on the same page, same book, same story. I started my journey when Jared Rock bottom Bayless in 2016 was their starting point guard. So I've seen the rise and fall of Markelle Foltz, the rise and fall of Ben Simmons, and now you see Shane Joel. Indeed. And I see we hired a nurse when we clearly need a doctor. And you know, with the holidays coming up, my nephew is big into basketball and we won, taking the Sixers game. But I'm not sure they deserve him as a fan with everything that's been going.
Dan Patrick
On. All right, well, thank you, Nate. Thank you. They just gave up 142 points to.
Paulie
Atlanta. Just like 180.
Dan Patrick
Points. That's a mess. That's. That's a mess. Is Paul George played playoff p. Is.
Paulie
He. I got him killing it. Five games so.
Dan Patrick
Far. All right. He's got to be.
CJ Toledano
Exhausted.
Paulie
But. Okay, but if you're kid, if you're a Sixers fan, you got Maxi, VJ Edgecombe, you've got a great backcourt. They're. They're not the worst situation. Not even close to the worst, I don't.
Dan Patrick
Think. Yeah. But Embiid will never be what he once was. Paul George. It's not good. Yes.
Marvin
Marvin. Yeah, that's one of those. On paper, man, they look like a contender in the east, but in reality, MB's not going to play. Paul George might play. And they're making 89 gajillion dollars a year between the two of them. So no.
Dan Patrick
Good. Yeah. I had a guy who bets a lot in Vegas. He says, hey, I know you don't gamble anymore, but if you do, here's my best bet. NBA. So I, I lean closer as he's telling me this. He goes, the Sixers. I go, the Sixers. What? And he goes Sixers NBA title. I go, what year are we talking about? I was like, that doesn't sound like a good bet. Not at all. That guy trusts the process though. Yes, he does. Oh, all right, that's it. Last call for phone calls. I've been looking for the numbers on Lane Kiffin's deal with LSU, and here it is. Seven years, $91 million. The termination fee due Ole Miss is covered by LSU. Lane doesn't have to pay that. LSU will pay Lane Kiffin any incentives that he would have earned based on how Ole Miss does in the college football playoffs.
Caller
So. Whoa.
Paulie
Whoa. Well, you're saying if. If Ole Miss keeps winning, Lane gets paid for their.
Dan Patrick
Wins? That's what I'm.
CJ Toledano
Told.
Dan Patrick
Wow. Lsu. Lsu. This is according to a source, will pay Lane Kiffin any incentives that he would have earned based on how Ole Miss does in the college football playoffs. If he wins the SEC title, he gets a million dollars. If he wins the SEC title in the national title, he gets $4 million. If he wins a national title, his pay is automatically adjusted to be the highest paid coach in college football. If he's terminated without cause, 80% of his contract balance is due and they're paying Brian Kelly 90%. All in addition to the 54 million they're paying to Brian Kelly over the next six years. Wow. So if Ole Miss wins a couple of of these playoff games, then Lane Kiffin gets paid by lsu, according to my source. Should have gone into coaching, actually. No. No way. No way. If I was coaching, it would be probably grade school. Even high school's a mess.
Paulie
Now. Yes, Paulie, I'm looking at some of these escalators and contracts from different head coaches. I can't find one to ever have that. If you win the national title going forward in your contract, you must be the highest paid head coach in the country. That's a biggie. But again, it's worth it. If he wins the national title in year two, they'll be glad to give him a.
Dan Patrick
Race. Yeah. Now, once again, this is, according to my source, that however Ole Miss does in the college football playoffs, whatever incentives that he was going to get from Ole Miss, LSU will pay him. Yeah, Paulie, you know, if we.
Paulie
Do have Coach Kiffin on the next few days, any chance. I love those Ole Miss colors. I would love if he could send a box full of his old stuff over. Those are great colors. About his.
Dan Patrick
Size. If he hasn't sent those, he's probably not going back to pack that up. I would say somebody else is. It's like when Brian Kelly sent us that care package. And I think Fritzi was the only one who could wear the Brian Kelly stuff.
Marvin

Weekend. Hey, Mr. Patrick. How are you guys? Great, Great. Second time caller, long time listener. Best and worst of the weekend. Not enough love, no pun intended, given for my packers after the win and the worst of the weekend, the crybaby Bears ending up in first place. And also I had tied to the face back with Paulie, that my packers will end up having a better record than the.
Dan Patrick
Bears. Oh, we're making the bet now that the packers will end up with a better record than the Bears? Is that what we're saying, Paul? Is that what you're saying? Okay. All right, Paul, do you want a piece of Manny in his Packers? I.
Paulie
Do. Because the Bears could lose to the packers. But because of that tie that the packers have, that could be the difference. So I will take that as a Bears.
Dan Patrick
Guy. All right. Pie to the face. All right, Manny. Thank you. Yes, Dylan? I was just thinking about something from earlier. We could start the coaches that have gone to lsu, graveyard of gear from their previous school. Since we already have the Brian Kelly stuff. We'll get lanes, whoever's next, which will probably be a few years. Okay. I can't help but think of that game tonight. Drake May is second in the odds to win the mvp. Now, if he plays really well tonight, he'll probably move past Matthew Stafford based off of playing well, standalone game. Matthew Stafford had not a great game against Carolina. And I can't help but think of Mike Vrabel in New England and you look at the mess that the Tennessee Titans.
Marvin
Are. Yes, Marvin, this Drake May, Matthew Stafford MVP situation might be like Chris Paul, Kobe Bryant in like 2008 where somebody's having a better season. But you can't, you can't go without an MVP for Matthew Stafford. This is his.
Dan Patrick
Year. It feels that.
Marvin
Way. Yeah. Just the narrative.
Dan Patrick
Alone. Yeah. But the Patriots are a great story at 10 and 2.
Paulie
Yes. Paul, I'm on Team Marvin with this one because I think Drake May is going to get the. Well, he's going to have a lot more chances to win the mvp. Matthew Stafford, this is it. This is his year, I.
Dan Patrick
Think. Okay. Yeah. MVP odds. Matthew Stafford plus 105. Drake May plus 120. And that's it. Because then it goes to Dak Prescott plus 1100 this day in sports.
Paulie
History. Paul, I got a couple for you. Dan, these are. Oh. 1964, the Houston Colt 45s changed their name to the Astros 67. Seattle was awarded the American League franchise. Wilt Chamberlain in 1967 had an NBA game where he missed 22 free throws. In 1984, this was a great one. Doug Flutie of Boston College won the 50th Heisman.
Dan Patrick
Trophy. Wilt missed 22 free throws but still scored 52.
Paulie
Points. Can you imagine how we covered that.
Dan Patrick
Today? Also on this day, Latrell Sprewell choked PJ Carlissimo got a 10 game suspension. That was it. If that happened today, you're gone for the season. Todd, what did you learn.

Main Topics: Parity in the NFL, College Football Coaching Carousel, Andy Staples Interview
Host: Dan Patrick
Guest: Andy Staples (On3 Sports)
In this episode, Dan Patrick and his crew dive into the ongoing chaos in college football—particularly the wild coaching carousel, focusing on Lane Kiffin’s departure from Ole Miss to LSU. The show also features an in-depth discussion of NFL parity, notable upsets, and surprising performances as the league heads into the final stretch. The hour is loaded with interactive listener calls, quirky personal anecdotes, and an insightful, energetic interview with college football insider Andy Staples, who unpacks the behind-the-scenes action in coaching hires and playoff scenarios.
[Starts ~24:24]
| Timestamp | Speaker | Quote | |-----------|----------------|----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 04:27 | Dan Patrick | "Maybe we just get to the NFL model... I would love to have an overall commissioner for college football. I would settle for that right now." | | 06:31 | Dak Prescott | "We just beat them both in two great games, as you said, in four days... just showing the resiliency of this unit, of this brotherhood..." | | 25:08 | Dan Patrick | "If I’m the athletic director at Ole Miss, I’d say, nope, you made your decision. Go. And don’t act like you’re the victim here." | | 30:24 | Andy Staples | "There’s an easy fix. But the coaches don’t want it." | | 45:07 | Dan Patrick | "Lane Kiffin's deal with LSU... Seven years, $91 million... LSU will pay Lane Kiffin any incentives that he would have earned..." | | 32:19 | Andy Staples | "Of the nine and three teams, they would have the best case... If you don’t pick them, you are discouraging scheduling tough non-conference." |
The hour is classic Dan Patrick: conversational, irreverent, and full of both expertise and entertainment. The hosts and guests maintain a candid yet humorous edge, poking fun at college football’s lack of order ("I rage against the machine..."), enjoying lively banter with callers, and finding the absurdities in both sports and everyday life. Andy Staples brings passionate, rapid-fire insights on college football, injecting both industry knowledge and wry amusement.
This hour delivers a comprehensive look at the current state of both the NFL (parity, unpredictability, wild-card races) and college football (coaching drama, playoff chaos, big personalities like Lane Kiffin). The interview with Andy Staples is especially valuable for those seeking perspective on the inner workings of coaching moves and the NCAA’s unresolved issues. The lively calls, jokes, and personal stories keep the tone light, making it enjoyable even for casual fans.
