Guaranteed Human. You are listening to the Dan Patrick show on Fox Sports Radio. Ah, leave it to the Cowboys. They wanted to have their own day to fire somebody. They have fired their defensive coordinator, Matt Eber Fluss. Brian Flores's name will probably come up. Raheem Morris name will probably come up as well. But Jonathan Gannon's name, he just got fired on Monday as well. Maybe you're gonna bring in Denver's assistant head coach. Jim Leonard is a name that I guess would come up there as well. But the Dallas Cowboys have fired their defensive coordinator, Matt Eberfluss. Welcome to the program already in progress. The final hour. Reggie Miller will stop by. More phone calls as well. Once again, I want to reiterate something that happened about two hours ago. We had Mike Tannenbaum on for the Mothership, former front office executive for a couple of teams. And we were talking about the openings here, and I asked him to rank the openings, worst to first, and he talked about the Raiders, and he said, now this is just speculation. I can't even say. It's just him talking. And he just put it out there of what? About a package deal with Kurt Signetti at Indiana and Fernando Mendoza, his quarterback. Now he's saying that if he were the Raiders, that he would consider that. Why not take a chance, see if he'd be interested in doing that. Which, once again, if you hear of this on any other show or, you know, on the Mothership or anybody talking about this, it started with just Mike Tannenbaum, as if we're just chatting. It wasn't a report. So I want to make sure I'm fair to Mike, that people aren't saying, hey, I heard. Or on the Dan Patrick show, I heard them say this. Yes, Mike Tannenbaum. And he just kind of threw it out there. We love to do these package deals because, remember, with the Bears, Lincoln Riley and Caleb Williams, boy, that was a big deal. That was a big deal until it was no deal. Arch Manning, Nick Saban, Pete Carroll, Matt Leinert, go together. Who's saying no to that? What's he saying? But once again, this is not a report. This is just him kind of musing on the possibility of maybe Kurt Signetti makes too much money. The Raiders are, I think, paying three coaches now. I think that at least three head coaches, former head coaches at that. But this is just Mike saying, hey, I would certainly consider this. I'd kick the tires on this. Signetti makes too much money, and plus, he's got something Great. Here. And you already got your quarterback to replace Fernando Mendoza. And, you know, we. It should be full speed ahead. We should expect Indiana to become a football school.
Marvin
Yes, Paulie, the Raiders are paying Pete Carroll, obviously. They're paying offensive coordinator Chip Kelly $6 million for next year to not coach the offense.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, they.
Marvin
The settlement. John Gruden is 10 million. The payout to Josh McDaniels is 10, and Antonio Pierce is 8. I'm not a math guy, but that's over 50 million bucks.
Dan Patrick
My goodness.
Marvin
To not coach.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Yeah.
Marvin
Make them all come back for one year, and then you have, like, a lot of coaches, man.
Dan Patrick
That's a lot of money. But you got the first pick in the draft like this. Feels like you can't screw that up, right?
Marvin
I've been sitting on this one. As much as I love me some Fernando Mendoza, Heisman Doza, they're not in position to take a quarterback at this juncture with their offensive line. Like you've said, it's. It's a recipe for disaster because they'll probably start in week one.
Paulie
Which would.
Marvin
Be the opposite of what you.
Dan Patrick
Yes. Yes. I don't want. If you take Fernando Mendoza. I don't want to start in week one. I. I've said before, there's nothing like watching a football game, an NFL game, from the sidelines. Whether you're just a fan or you're actually a player, it's just different. It is a different speed. And I want. I would want that guy to be able to kind of ease his way in, not go out there and turn the franchise around. The reason why you're being drafted, where you're being drafted, is your team isn't any good. You're not walking. It's rare when you walk into a team and you go, like, Patrick Mahomes walked into a really good team, a playoff team. It's really, really rare when you're doing that. But we ask these guys to be saviors. And when you put him in there early, it doesn't. It usually doesn't go well. Yeah, Paulie.
Marvin
I'll throw this out there for the Raiders. You guys let me know what you think.
Dan Patrick
Okay?
Marvin
Raiders have the first pick, jets have the second. They are probably both taking quarterbacks. What if the Raiders called the Arizona Cardinals at 3 and traded down with them, got a monster haul and rebuild their franchise from the inside out?
Dan Patrick
But are you taking Kyler Murray as well?
Marvin
No, I don't want any part of that contract. I just want the pick.
Dan Patrick
I only have to have him for one year. Yeah.
Marvin
Winning is maybe.
Dan Patrick
And he's in a contract year, but.
Marvin
Arizona may overpay for that first pick this year to go up two spots. And if you don't love, love Mendoza.
Dan Patrick
I just got to make sure that the people who are drafting are going to draft the right people, because as the Browns have proven in previous years, previous drafts, they can have a lot of picks. It doesn't mean they know what they're doing. Now, they have since made some pretty good draft picks, but back, you know, Brady Quinn, you know, that didn't work out. Who was the defensive back from Oklahoma State?
Marvin
Gilbert.
Dan Patrick
Is that.
Marvin
Yeah. Something Gilbert.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Yes. Marvin.
Paulie
Courtney Brown.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Second pick overall.
Paulie
D lineman.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Yeah. Second pick overall.
Marvin
I believe Justin Gilbert.
Dan Patrick
Justin Gilbert. Yeah. Yeah. There's certain organizations that you trust. Like, I believe Baltimore usually gets it right. They're. They're one of those franchises where you go. They took him. Okay. Yes, Mark.
Paulie
And for example, the jets, like, man, Sam Darnold's not any good. Nah, he's just on the Jets.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Paulie
Because he's played well in two different places now.
Dan Patrick
Well, we talked about the most interesting opening with Mike Tannenbaum. I would say it's the Giants now. He took the Titans, but, okay, you got Cam Ward. What else do you have? Now, maybe you got a lot of cap room, but, like, you need a lot of cap room to fix all the issues that you have. But you can say, hey, I go in there and it's a blank slate. But how long do you get with a blank slate? Like, two years, maybe three years. Yeah, Paulie.
Marvin
But maybe a guy like Tannenbaum looks at the Titan, says, I have, like, an open lot to build a house. I've got a rookie quarterback who is. The last four games are pretty good for Cam Ward, and he's on a rookie contract. They lead the NFL and cap room for the next two years at 105 million. GMs want to build. They don't want to inherit issues.
Dan Patrick
I think, well, if I. If I. If I could put more padding around Jackson Dart, you know, like, he'd be one of those. You know, those sumo wrestlers when they perform at halftime and they bounce into each other. Yeah.
Marvin
Paulie, how come they don't make Jackson Dart wear one of the Guardian caps? People. They're starting to catch on.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. But he does it once again. He. The way he plays. He doesn't. He would not be wearing.
Marvin
He'd rather go with no helmet.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, probably. So no face mask. That's the way they used to do it in the old days. But I like him. You know, Mike Tannen, mom talked about his completion percentage is not very Good. In today's NFL, you got to be 65%, you know, at least 62, 3%. Just feels like everybody is, you know, approaching those crazy numbers. You got Malik, neighbors, you got some defensive players. And Scottaboo might be, you know, a legitimate running back for you. He's fun to watch, but you know his style. How long does that style last? I mean, the great Earl Campbell ran like that. He's in a wheelchair now. But I would say the Giants and you know, you factor in. It's New York, it might be, but the pressure is there as well. So I'd probably say them. I didn't see Tennessee, you know, up there as high. Arizona's got some talent. It just. They got to decide what are you doing with Kyler Murray. And it feels like they already made that decision. Yeah.
Paulie
Marv, what about the Falcons? Just based on the division, it's so winnable.
Dan Patrick
I know. Well, you know, I don't know what your quarterbacking situation is. I don't think Panic's going to be ready. So now you have Kurt Cousins, who actually played. He's a better quarterback than Michael Penix right now. He is. Michael Panicks didn't look good. Kirk Cousins didn't look great either. But he gave you a better chance, it felt, felt like to win. What was he, five and three in the eight games that he started? So you have a great running back. I think Pitts is a free agent or going to be a free agent. So, I mean, yes, in that division. Yes, I would say. Okay, because Arizona, you're in there in the NFC west and that that's not changing anytime soon. It doesn't look like. See, for some reason I like the Raiders. I just don't. I can't trust ownership. But if Brady's going to be in there and truly be hands on, then I would say the Raiders get a quarterback, running back, tight end. Get Max Crosby back on board then. Okay, you got some things there.
Paulie
Yeah, Mark, relax, DP because somebody probably said that about Michael Jordan when he bought the Charlotte Bobcats. Like, oh, there's Michael Jordan making the picks. Just because you're a great player doesn't mean you're great.
Dan Patrick
Oh, I, I absolutely. Great gm. Absolutely. We talked about that yesterday. You know, John Elway got in and got in over his head in Denver because, hey, I'm a quarterback. I run a team. Oh, no, you Run an offense. You don't run a team. Okay. Who you take it in the sixth round, you know, like, you know, you got to rely on your scouts. That's what this is going to be. Yeah. I'd love to know what Brady's role is. On a daily basis, a weekly basis, monthly basis, he'll be in the, he'll be the one picking their head coach. I mean, if I have him, I got to use him. So it's not like I want him to be there for a meet and greet in one of our suites. I, I, I, I want him making decisions here because we've seen the decisions that have been made before and they're embarrassing.
Marvin
Yeah, Paulie, I'm in the Las Vegas Raiders website right now, and Tom Brady is not listed as owner, contributor, personnel assistant to the president. President. He's not on their website as a contributor in any way officially.
Dan Patrick
Okay. All right. Nick in la. Morning, Nick. What's on your mind today? Hey, Dan.
Caller
Hey, guys.
Dan Patrick
How's it going?
Caller
Hope you're attacking 2026 with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind. I've got an MMW WCQB for you that is not named Josh Allen. So most must win wild card quarterback and it is Justin Herbert because of his last two appearances in the playoffs. And you also have a defense that could carry you all the way. I do think it's him. And to agree with all the guys and also Paulie that brought it up, I would trade down that Raiders pick. It would be getting the Raiders, I think, a little bit more closer to being successful than where they are.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Yeah. You know, you, you got to have an offensive line. If you're going to have a quarterback, you got to have an offensive line. I don't like when you get a quarterback and then you try to get an offensive line because then you're playing catch up. If you have the line now you got a quarterback, now you got a chance. And most teams do it ass backwards. Hey, we got our quarterback. Now we just got to protect him. Dane in Texas. Hi, Dane. What's on your mind today?
Caller
Hey, good morning, Dan. You know, echoing what Marvin just said about, you know, Brady's greatness and his, you know, fortunate positions in the booth and ownership doesn't necessarily mean it's going to transfer to organizational skills or teaching skills. And I was wondering, like, there's two, two coaches and managers event some Bardi and Sparky Anderson. Nobody would ever choose them of being a great player yet. They could teach, they could organize, and they were great at what they did. Why do you suppose that's true? That.
Dan Patrick
Well, because they had to. A lot of times you can rely on. Don't you know who I am? You know, Lombardi had to prove himself as an assistant coach and then he got his opportunity with the Packers. But he had to have his. He had to know what his formula was. He had to know, this is how I'm going to do it. And with Sparky Anderson, I mean, he did have. Before free agency, you were able to keep all of those players. You wouldn't have been able to keep the big red machine together. I mean, Bob Howzen was the gm. He did a wonderful job with all that talent. But Pete Rose and Joe Morgan and Johnny Bench and Tony Perez, I mean, they're not staying there. They would have been all over the place.
Paulie
Yes, Todd, and Tommy Lasorda was a legendary manager, but I don't think he did much as a player as far as like, if you played well, that's going to somehow translate to managerials.
Dan Patrick
Although didn't Tommy lorda strike out 27 batters in a minor league game?
Paulie
That might have been one of those freakish games. You might be right about that. I'm seeing that he posted an.04 record. Brief stints with the Dodgers in A's.
Dan Patrick
No, I'm talking about minor league.
Paulie
But he was a very good minor league pitcher. It just didn't translate to the major league.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Was he as good a baseball player as I apparently was? Yes.
Marvin
Tommy Lasorda in the minors struck out 25 in a 15 inning game.
Dan Patrick

I don't.

Hair kind of the way it is.
Paulie
But it's something that I will take under advisement, meaning the. The wife.
Dan Patrick
Okay. Paulie, what about you?
Marvin
I can use a little tidy up up front. The runways are a little loose. The back half is fine. The runways are a little sparse.
Dan Patrick
Skip the shortcuts. Marvin, I'll ask you, are you interested in some, some hair?
Paulie
Nah, I'm gonna keep the Milk Dud I got going on.
Dan Patrick
Okay. The Milk Dud, I like that. Visit nutrafoil.com nutrafold.com use the code DAN Patrick. Man, who is bald? Reggie Miller joining us on the program. When did you go bald?
Paulie
Why didn't you ask me? Maybe it's time.
Dan Patrick
Did you choose baldness?
Paulie
I chose it. If I didn't cut my hair, it would grow in. It wouldn't be great. I couldn't get a fro or anything, but I could use a little, you know, can I get a little mullet or a little mob going a little bit.
Dan Patrick
But if Jordan didn't shave his head like it became cool once Mike did.
Paulie
It right and then everyone started to do it. Anything Mike did everyone, you know, be like Mike. Everyone wanted to be like Mike.
Dan Patrick
Reggie Miller, full introduction. He was on the call for the Warriors Clippers last night. Snoop Dogg joining you there in the second. I thought he did a good job. I thought it was fun.
Paulie
He did a great job. He was well prepared. He did his homework. He came in all the coaches meetings, he did pre game interviews. I think you guys saw with Stephen Curry, he just wasn't showing up to be a pretty face. He put in the work and the game helped because it was a great game. It was a one possession game, last second opportunity for Jimmy Butler. Steph had fouled out and it was a game that the Clippers obviously continued to need it because they got off to that rough start, 6 and 21, but have won seven of eight. So it was a. He did his job.
Dan Patrick
Steve Kerr had some comments. I don't know if it was this past week or last week where he's kind of saying, hey, you know, try to win championships each year. That's not going to happen anymore. And I'm paraphrasing here, but it felt like there was backlash from the Golden State fans who were like, wait a minute, you know, kind of sounds like you're surrendering that you don't have a championship caliber team. Was he being correct in what he was saying?
Paulie
Well, currently constructed, he's correct. They don't have a championship team. They're just missing something. And I think why his the fan base is upset. They're like, wait a minute, we just traded to get Jimmy Butler. Wasn't that supposed to be one of those missing pieces to help us get back to the championship mountain? And when I look at the warriors and I just hope they're not wasting these last two, three, four years for Stephen Curry because he can still at a high level, get you to the promised land. They just need players. And I equate it to this, you need certain players for 16 games and you need players for 82 games. And Jimmy Butler, Stephen Curry, Draymond Green are 16 game players. Get me to the playoffs and then we'll take over. It's the grind is what's the problem for, for the Golden State warriors, they don't have enough scoring for 82 games. Stephen Curry can't do it like he used to do it with Klay Thompson when they were younger. So the margin of error is very small. And I think the fan base is upset because you've got a young player like Jonathan Kaminga who's just sitting there collecting 22 million, who was supposed to be one of those players for 82 games and he's not delivering and his.
Dan Patrick
Name comes up all the time in trade talks. All like for the last. It feels like two years at least. Why don't they trade him?
Paulie
I think they're exploring their options. I would be surprised if he, if he is a warrior past the trade deadline because again, I think, I think Golden State has to make another trade for a player just to come off the bench and get your buckets to give Stefan and Jimmy Butler some breathing room because there's no way they're going to make it to the finish line in the Western Conference. This would go bode well if they were in the Eastern Conference because there's really only two, maybe three teams playing at that high of a level, but not in the Western Conference. You'll tax them too much.
Dan Patrick
Are you all in on the Clippers now all of a sudden? Are the Clippers formidable?
Paulie
Yes. The problem, a lot like Golden State we saw last night, they're the two oldest teams and they don't run a lot and they rely a lot on their half court offense, which has been great lately. But more importantly, their defense has stepped up. When they were last year, what made them great was their defense. And I think over the last eight ball games they have the best defense in the league. Now, I know it's a small sample size, but they've won seven of eight and it's because of their defense. Can they continue to play like that? We'll see. What helps is Kawhi's healthy and playing and you see the numbers. But is he going to go through one of those stints where he plays one game? Doesn't play right now, he has to play. Harden didn't play last night because of shoulder stiffness. But again, their margin of error, it's very small because those guys can't take nights off because there's not enough scoring on the back end of their roster.
Dan Patrick
Talking to Reggie Miller, he was on the call last night. The warriors and the Clippers, Steve Kerr getting thrown out of that game. Yeah, Steve's not having a good year.
Paulie
Well, why do you say that?
Dan Patrick
It just seems like he's frustrated. You know, the Draymond Green stuff, they're not, you know, they're a little better than average. I don't know, maybe he's really coaching harder than he's ever had to coach. Used to be easy when you just said go out there and have some fun and shoot some threes guys.
Paulie
Again. That's why it's the beauty, you know, when you've been to the mountaintop like Steve has been as a player, he's won five chips four times as a coach with the Warriors. I think at times you can become complacent. And I think he's trying to show his fan base as well as his team. If you want to continue to be great, there's sacrifices that have to be made and there's tough choices that have to be said. And the butting of head with Draymond Green, you would be surprised. That happens all the time. I mean, you're a family. And as long as those guys have been together and all the wars that they've been through, I kind of give them a long leash because I think they're allowed to kind of speak to one another that way because there's history there. And I just hope it never comes to a head because Draymond Green is the perfect player for this team because without him, I mean, he's leads this team in assists, point forward. The problem is, has been his offense, because teams are just daring him to shoot. And if you watch the game last night, to start the game, he had three or four wide open threes. He makes two or three of those. The warriors are almost running away with this game because the momentum would have been on their side. But it is what it is.
Dan Patrick
You have coaches, former players who become coaches, but it's rare when a really successful player becomes a head coach. You had Larry Bird there, but what is it about the role player becoming a head coach over maybe an all star kind of player becoming a head coach?
Paulie
Well, you kind of look at JJ Redick, Steve Kerr, guys that were somewhat at the. You say role player or into the bench, I think they can look at all. They can see what the star player goes through. They can see what a role player who plays, you know, 12 to 15 minutes a game, and they can see a guy who never sees the light of day, and he can kind of weave his way and act like all three of those different proponents. And I think that's what makes them successful, because they can relate to all three of them, again, playing for Larry Bird and Isaiah Thomas, another Hall of Famer. Personally, for me, it was a joy because I played against those guys. I, I knew how they prepared and then to be coached from them, from my standpoint, it was great. I don't know if it was great for the younger players, but for us older guys like Mark, Sam Perkins, Derek Beke, we all went against Larry Legend. We respected him. It was a lot of pressure to play for him, but it was worth it because that's what we wanted. That's what we signed up for.
Dan Patrick
Can you talk back to a legend?
Paulie
I think there's. There's respect there. Look, I'm from, you know, this military. There's no talking back. There's a chain of. There's got to be a chain of command. Now, you may have disagreements, you may have arguments in practice, but during a game, I don't think it never rose to that. You're right, I'm right, you're wrong. It never rose to that. You got to be respectful to your coach, and you can handle that stuff in the locker room. You never want to do that on the bench or where other people can peer in and, and know what your family business is going on.
Dan Patrick
Trey Young used to be a big deal with the Hawks. That was. That was a good story. It was a few years ago. He's celebrating against the Knicks in the Garden. He's playing in the Eastern Conference finals. His numbers look really good. He's in his prime and he's on the trading block. What happened with this?
Paulie
Here's the problem. Here's the problem. And sometimes it's. It's getting success too early. You mentioned it. I think his decline really started after the Hawks went to the conference finals and lost to the Milwaukee Bucks, the eventual championship. And I think things came too easy for him. And again, I'm not in their practices. I don't follow them day to day, but I hear things. And when you hear things that players don't like playing with him. He doesn't practice hard. He doesn't come early and work out. He certainly doesn't stay late and work on his game. When I hear comments like that, I hope they're not true because I think he is an unbelievable talent and he can help a team out. The problem is he's small. He's not going to grow. He's not very big. He's slight. So he gets taken advantage of at the defensive end. And if you're not going to work on your game, if you're not going to bulk up, look at Stephen Curry. I mean, they were almost the same size at one point. And you look at Curry now, how much he has bulked up, continues to work on his shot like it's going out of business. I don't know if Trey works like that. I don't know if he's committed to working like that. So if you're the Hawks, you have a decision to make. What can you get in return for them? And the longer they wait, those kind of returns start to go down. It's like the stock market, so. But I know we've seen them on display in New York. We know he's a ice tray. We know what he can deliver is what can you get from. And going forward, how is Trey going to act wherever he goes?
Dan Patrick
Joker's out of the MVP conversation. SGA and the Thunder have lost, what, five of their last 10. Can we somehow slip Cade Cunningham into the MVP conversation?
Paulie
Yes, and I'm surprised more people are not speaking about Cade. We got, we had a chance to do a game up close and personal. Their last game on that long west coast road trip versus the Lakers and they beat the brakes off the Lakers and Cade Cunningham. Look, for those of you who are late to the party, overall number one pick out of Oklahoma State and for his size at 656 6, being a point guard controls the whole action. And it helps now that Jalen Durham is kind of grown into being that force down low for them. They have a great one, two connection and chemistry between those two. He plays defense. Yeah. I think on the back end you've got. Luka will be mentioned. It's unfortunate. I don't know if Joker will qualify for those games. SGA will be in the running. I don't think Giannis is going to qualify, but he'll have the type of numbers. But Cade should certainly be in the discussion for mvp, no question.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. It's just they're not a glamour team in a glamorous town. You know, SportsCenter is not going to be leading with Detroit and you know, they're, they're the number one seed right now. I mean they're, they're, they're going to, they're going to force feed you the Knicks, even the Celtics. But Detroit's just not, they're, they're not going to get national attention. And that's a shame because he's averaging 27, 10 and 6 for a team that's played that proved that. Last year was no fluke with them.
Paulie
Second best record in the association behind OKC and. But this, this is kind of on par for the Pistons, right? They were the bad boys, Isaiah. They had great players, but they didn't get a lot of love. Back to back champs. Same thing with Chauncey's team in 2004. It was five guys. Tayshawn Prince, Rip Hamilton, Rasheed Wallace, Ben Wallace. But they weren't a sexy team. What do they do? They won a championship. This current Detroit team is cut from the same cloth. They've got one star on the verge of being a superstar to Cade, an up and coming great young player and center in Jalen Durham. But you think, well, who else is really on this team? Isaiah Stewart is the Ben Wallace of the team, the tough guy. But you couldn't name anyone else. JB Bickerstaff is doing a great job and yes, everyone likes to push, and rightfully so. Jalen Brunson and the Knicks. But those are the two top teams in the Eastern Conference. And look, they went head to head last night. And what happened? The Pistons smacked them. So that was a message game because last year during the playoffs, Brunson was doing all the kissing to the fans after hitting threes. And he wanted to make the Pistons wanted to make a statement that it's going to be very difficult this year for you to come in this building and be successful.
Dan Patrick
You got the spurs in the Thunder next Tuesday. Yeah.
Paulie
Is this becoming the rivalry? Is this becoming one of the best rivalries.
Dan Patrick
I hope it is.
Paulie
Yeah, I. I hope so too. Because to beat okc, you've got to have a number of things. You've got to have guards that are committed to pick up full. That's exactly what the spurs have. And Castle Vassell, de' Aaron Fox is one of those closers. And Wimby, they have the champs. The spurs have Wimby. It is two young teams and there's a little bit of a crackdown in a seven game series. I probably would still take OKC right now because of experience. But the beauty of this is the spurs aren't afraid of them.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Paulie
And a lot of teams are afraid of okc.
Dan Patrick
I like it. I like it. Hey, great to catch up with you. We'll talk to you soon. Thank you, Reg.
Paulie
I appreciate you. Theodore. Welcome back. Happy New Year, Dan.
Dan Patrick
It's Reggie Miller, hall of Famer and the lead analyst for NBC. And he'll be on the call. Tuesday, January 13th. Spurs at the Thunder. Last call for phone calls. What we learn what's in store tomorrow, this day in sports history. Right after this, Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in the nation. Catch all of our shows@foxsportsradio.com and within the iHeartRadio app. Search FSR to listen live. I got something for you here. We were talking about Kurt Signetti and Mike Tannenbaum. Just throwing it out there. What about a package deal where Kirk Signetti and Fernando Mendoza would go to the Raiders? And I said, Kurt Signetti makes too much money. So in 2023, Kurt Signetti's total pay at James Madison, $677,000. With bonuses. Signetti this year will be the highest paid coach in college football. He will Exceed Kirby Smart, $13.2 million. His salary increase in three years, 2,100%. Start of the day, start of the.
Paulie
Day, start of the day, start of the day.
Dan Patrick
Stat of the day brought to you by Panini America. And keep in mind, he's getting a million dollars or $2 million with their success here in the playoffs. And my source says that Indiana will do everything possible to make sure he wants to stay at Indiana as long as he wants to. My source goes on to say, by the way, you're talking about, or somebody mentioned Andy Reid maybe stepping down. Keep in mind, andy Reid makes $20 million a year. You know what? I could go through a rebuild or reload for $20 million a year. Half of that, of course. So Kurt Signetti makes too much money. And the Raiders are Paying too much money to former coaches and factor in. Do you really want to go to the NFL when you got something like this? You got a chance to do something historically and be able to stay there like Mike Krzyzewski did at Duke. I mean, a lot of these guys, you do something and you'll always be recognized. I mean, it should have been that way for Joe Paterno. It didn't turn out that way. Obviously. Tom Izzo at Michigan State, I mean, there's so many of these coaches who build a legacy and continue to add to the legacy. Yes.
Paulie
Marv, is Signetti the safest coach in all of football. Like safety goes 5 and 7 next year.
Dan Patrick
Oh, well, you know, you know, I don't know enough about. You would think Indiana would go, man, we got a national championship, or if they got to the national championship. And then you go five and seven. You know, he's going to build up. I would think he'd be on scholarship for a while. I would hope so. But then remember, who was the Indiana coach? Was that Tom Allen?
Marvin
Tom Allen.
Dan Patrick
Oh, my God.
Marvin
Michael Pennix.
Dan Patrick
Everybody loved Tom Allen. Oh, man, that guy. Give him an extension and all of a sudden it's, we're going to fire him. This is different because you're, you know, their expectations are so high. They're expecting. Expecting to win a national championship.
Paulie
Yes, Marv, Indiana's a football school.
Dan Patrick
Not anymore. Not anymore.
Paulie
No. You know, I said Indiana's a football school.
Dan Patrick
Yes, Polly.
Marvin
And if you're Indiana, you. You match whatever offer is given to Signetti. I mean, he's printing money for you. It's like Nick Saban 20 years ago to Alabama. Every dollar you spend on them, you're getting three back.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Oh, did I mishear you? You said they were a football team, correct? Yeah, yeah, they are. Football. Football school. I was texting. Dan Dockage said that to me, sent me a text last night. He goes, Indiana football school. Yeah, that. That long tradition of two years of being a football school. Let me see. Aiden in Utah. Hi, Aiden. Welcome back.
Caller
Yep. Good morning, Danny. Listen, time is a flat circle. Okay, we're back in 2015, the Denver Broncos with a mediocre offense and a stellar defense, they clinch the 1 seed. They go to Santa Clara to face the MVP in Cam Newton, and they win the Super Bowl. Dennis. 2025, 2026. The Denver Broncos have a mediocre offense but an outstanding defense. They clinch the one seed. They're going to go to Santa Clara to face the MVP and Matthew Stafford and they are your 20, 25, 2026 Super bowl champion.
Dan Patrick
Alrighty. All right. You love that synergy, that numerology, Tom.
Paulie
I really do. I love that. That's made some very valid points there.
Dan Patrick
Dan Orlovsky of the Mothership will join us on the program tomorrow. Mike in Columbus. Good morning, Mike. What's on your mind today?
Caller
Morning, Dan. How you doing?
Dan Patrick
Good, good.
Caller
Hey, first time caller six, one, 2:15. There's a hot rumor going around the state of Ohio that the new Browns coach is going to be Travis Kelsey. Have you heard that?
Dan Patrick
No, I have not. No. But thank you for the phone call. Good luck. If you get Travis Kelsey, you get Taylor Swift as well. By the way, Todd McShay, the McShay show podcast and NFL draft analyst, had this to say about the New York Jets.
Paulie
Would you or would you not as the representation or the rep for, for Dante Moore, kind of reach out to the Raiders and say, hey, my clients are trying to make a decision. Give me, we can live with going to 30 of the 32 teams. I can't allow him to go the New York Jets So I can allow my client to go back to Oregon and have another season or you can pretty much promise me that he's going to be the number one overall pick. Is that so far fetched? Because I know it's not. But we're not one single player in this entire draft unless they grew up a Jets fan or have some kind of family tie, wants to be a New York Jet.
Dan Patrick
Well, if you're going to be the second pick in the draft or third pick in the draft, you know you're going to, you're going to want to go to. Okay, it's New York. Yes, it is the jets, but you're going to be paid more to go there. I don't know if anybody's pulling an Eli man, if Dante Moore is going to go, I don't want to play for the Jets. Now I can understand you might not want to, but I mean, it's a good problem to have, I would think. And they, you know, the jets do have some resources, some draft picks.
Marvin
Oh, sorry. You sounded serious.
Dan Patrick
This day in sports history.
Marvin
Paul, I have a quick one for you, Dan. It's a quiz. Peter O' Malley and O' Malley family announced that they're selling the Dodgers in 1997. What did they sell the Dodgers for in 1997 after owning a 4. 47 years and what's it worth today? Who wants a shot at that? That wasn't Frank McCourt no, that's the next year.
Dan Patrick
Oh, the next one. Okay.
Marvin
For sales?
Dan Patrick
Yeah. I have no idea.
Marvin
The dodgers were sold in 97 for $350 million. If they would have held on to it, the franchise is now worth 7 billion and growing. Their revenue last year was double. $350 million.
Dan Patrick
Let's go around the room. What we learned in the program. Toddler Kyle Whittingham learned there's one university.
Paulie
In the state of Texas paying a.
Dan Patrick
QB 5 million bucks. Texas Tech. Satan. The package deal is back. Marvin.
Paulie
Nicole in Texas is detailed.
Dan Patrick
Yes, she is. Congratulations on the engagement, Paul.
Marvin
Lots of package talk, Todd.
Dan Patrick
What did I learn?
Paulie
Reggie Mill says Kate Cunningham should be an MVP candidate.
