I mean it's kind of tough to tell really.
Dan Patrick
Fritzi has his Houston Astros. Bright orange.
Todd
Yeah, for Hughtown. For Hugh town. They had a nice win against the Steelers. Not a Texans fan, certainly not in the conference of the team that I like. But I'll give a little love to Houston.
Dan Patrick
And why are you wearing sweatbands?
Todd
I just, I don't know. I would put on the jersey and it felt like I had navy blue wristbands around. So I'm like, it matched. So I'm like, let me be a little kid, you know, I like to dress up like a little seven year old. So I put the wristbands out because they matched my hat and my jersey nicely.
Dan Patrick
Todd is here. Seaton's here. Marv and Dylan and yours truly, Reggie Miller will stop by at about 20 minutes from now. Phone calls always welcome. Dylan is not in the back helping out Tyler. Tyler will have to do it himself. He'll answer your phone calls. 877-3DP Show Stat of the day brought to you by Panini America. The official trading cards of the Dan Patrick show. Seaton poll question for the final hour of the program we got up there right now.
Wells Fargo Terms Voice
Has Aaron Rodgers played his last game? 82% of the audience say yes. And has Mike Tomlin coached his last game with the Steelers? Right now that is at 53%. No. That one keeps going back and forth. There's about a, what do they call that, a five point margin, five point.
Dan Patrick
Swings, Something like that.
Wells Fargo Terms Voice
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
I'm going to take Troy Aikman's eyes on Aaron Rodgers future because he said he thought that Aaron had played or is playing his last game. So from One quarterback to another quarterback. I'm. I'm going to go with Troy Aikman's assessment of Aaron Rodgers, that I think he's played his last game. Because if you come back to Pittsburgh, you're going to be maybe an average or better, better than average team. I don't think any seismic shift is going to happen with that team. Can you come back? Do you want to come back? You know, if you do and they want to have you, great, good content for me. But Mike Tomlin is different. You know, maybe Mike sees that he's taken this team and he did. I thought they overachieved this year. Maybe he's taken them as far as he can and maybe he needs a break. Maybe, you know, spend a year or two in TV and maybe it'll be like Bill Coward where he's 50 years of age. I think Mike Tomlin is 53. And you might say, I like this. Like, I got my legacy. I'll be a Hall of Fame coach. And now I could spend 10, 15 years doing TV. And, oh, by the way, Matt Ryan's not there on the NFL today, and there's a seat right there. And if you could put Mike Tomlin in there with Bill Cower. All right, we got something going on here. Yes.
Marvin
Marvin, do you think Thomas would be more likely to stay if it was a deeper quarterback class in this year's draft?
Todd
No.
Dan Patrick
Because you don't even know what you're getting out of a rookie quarterback. I think if he had. See, I don't know. I. And I don't know Mike Tomlinson. So, I mean, if he had someone like Jackson dart more than likely to come back to a situation like that, I guess. But I. I don't know. I just. That Pittsburgh is not threatening. Defense played well, kept you in the game, and the Texans played about as bad as you could on offense. And that final score is deceptive because you had the. The two late touchdowns in the fourth quarter. But yeah, with Aaron Rodgers and, you know, people will say, well, he can't go out this way. Yes, you can. You can check Dan Marino's last game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He lost, I think, 62 to 7.
Marvin
Don't check his last game.
Dan Patrick
Yes, you can go out this way. It's okay to go out this way. You're going to come back for an entire season to try to prove that that was a fluke. What happened this past year, same thing with Travis Kelce. Hey, can't go out this way. It might not be better next year. For that kind of commitment. And those are two guys that can go into the media right away. And even Mike Tomlin, you know, I think Aaron Rodgers will do something like that. I don't see him doing studio or doing games, but I could see him being a part of a podcast network and making a lot of money. But for Mike Tomlin, you're 53. You know, sometimes you need to step away to realize what you want to go back to, and then you might find that you don't want to go back to that. Yes.
Wells Fargo Terms Voice
Yeah. I mean, Aaron Rodgers seems to be putting off a whole nother, and if he wants it, a whole second career, not involving that traditional, you know, play by play, color guy kind of thing.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Wells Fargo Terms Voice
It seems like he has the opportunity to do a ton of things.
Dan Patrick
Yes. Dylan, he could become like a wellness salesman on Instagram or something. I feel like he's sort of trending in that direction. Well, he could host a podcast and do that, sell supplements. You know, he could do all of that, get his opinions out there, have guests on that he wants to have on. I could see him doing that. Yes.
Wells Fargo Terms Voice
Yeah, that's the thing, right?
Marvin
He's.
Wells Fargo Terms Voice
He's made more than enough money to never do anything ever again. If he wants, he could go surfing for the rest of his life, whatever. But he does seem like a dude who has opinions and likes to get them out there. And I think he could command an immediate following if he wanted to install all kinds of stuff.
Dan Patrick
Yes.
Todd
Todd, I want to know what everyone said to Rogers, you know, when they all came over to him, just like they did with Kelsey. If this is your last game. No, you have a great career. Congratulations. There's. He'd be hearing that like a thousand times as all the players on the other team, the coaches, everybody wants to give him that last hug.
Dan Patrick
I don't know if you come over and you assume that's his last game.
Todd
A lot, A lot of guys went over to him and it seemed like it was. Some of them were more extended. It was, it was a little more than just a week 11 game where it was like, this could be this guy's last game ever. I feel a need to go put my arm around him and say, great career if this is your last game.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, but even then, I wouldn't, I wouldn't be so bold to think that was his last game. Like walk up and say, hey, man, if this is it, great career. Because it feels like Rogers would be bothered by that, that Aaron would be like, wait a minute, who Said I'm retiring.
Todd
It's supposed to be a nice gesture because this could be his last time on the field ever. You'd like to be one of the guys on the opposing team to say something nice to him. If you, while you have that opportunity right there to go over, across the field to say hi.
Dan Patrick
But what would you say to him? Okay, I'm Aaron Rodgers, game's over. You play for the Texans and you walk over and, you know, you're Danielle Hunter. What are you saying? No, you're C.J. stroud.
Todd
Hey, man, I don't know what your future plans are, but I just wanted to say I've looked up to you, your awesome career, whether you, you know, I'd say something along the lines of, I don't know what you're doing, what your plans are next year, but I just want to say, well, I have the opportunity in person, you know, amazing career, kind of like that, just to say that. Just, I just, it's an opportunity that I feel like I would definitely want to come over to and say something like that.
Dan Patrick
Well, you are full of minimum kindness, so that's very nice gesture on your part.
Todd
After everything he accomplished and you happen to be the team against him in what could be his last game ever. I think it's warranted. Even if he doesn't really know me that well and I don't have a particular relationship with the guy, I'd go over there for a second.
Dan Patrick
Michael in Fort Wayne. Good morning, Michael. What's on your mind today?
Caller
Hey, Dan, thanks for taking my call. Quick question for you. Who's more sick to their stomach this morning, Mike Tomlin or Paulie?
Dan Patrick
I say Paulie. I'd say Paulie. It's not doing well, but thank you for the phone call. Yeah, I don't know how Mike Tomlin feels. I mean, he may feel like, okay, we got to the playoffs. Yes, we lost again. This isn't going to go over well locally, nationally. You're probably going to have a little bit more sentiment to just, like I said, you know, maybe they overachieve this year and he's going to have options. But that, that would be an interesting meeting between front office and Mike Tomlin of. What do you say? Who says it first? Hey, I want to come back. Hey, we want you back. Because right now, you know, this audience is probably the same thing where I am. It's like, I don't know, it's like 50, 50 of. Does he want to come back? If he wants to, it seems like he's got a job. Aaron Rogers was not pleased when he was asked about this. The. It starts with a reporter question, but it's asking about, oh, well, that's. Is that for Aaron's future? The one with Mike Tomlin on the hot seat? That doesn't start with the question, does it, Marv? Okay, here's Aaron Rodgers after the game. I mean, this. This league has changed a lot in my 21 years. You know, when you hear conversation about the. The Mike Tomlins of the world, Matt LaFleur's of the world, those are two that kind of. I played for and when I first got. Wouldn't be conversation about whether those guys were on the hot seat, you know, but the way that the league is covered now and the way that there's snap decisions and the validity given to the, you know, the Twitter experts and all the experts on TV now who make it seem like they know what the hell they're talking about, to me, that's an absolute joke. Well, Aaron was involved in the Mike McCarthy situation. A coach who was on the hot seat and then got fired. Yes, Marvin.
Marvin
But Aaron's talking like this hot. This hot seat thing is new. Like it's always been a thing. Coaches get fired.
Dan Patrick
Yes.
Marvin
After winning Super Bowls, might I add.
Dan Patrick
Yes, there are some great coaches who have been fired. I mean, Pete Carroll got fired after one year with the Raiders. Are we quick to pull the trigger? We are. Are we quick to change quarterbacks? We are. That's. But that's on the front office. That has nothing to do with people who were on Twitter or insiders or any of that. That's the front office. So blame them. They're the ones that make these decisions. It's not like somebody's listening to the show going, what did Dan Patrick say today? He said that they should keep Mike Talmon. Well, then we'll keep him.
Marvin
Yes, Marvin, this has always been the case in the NFL. Marty Schottenheimer, didn't he go like 142 with the Chargers?
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Marvin
And then he got fired right after.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Marvin
Like. Oh, in this era. No, no, no. In the NFL, period. Because it's always been this way. This is a production business.
Dan Patrick
Aaron taking a shot at the media. Yes, Todd.
Todd
Perhaps I'm biased because I'm too close to the situation, but I bet there's at least one owner, Andrew gm that finds out that something Dan Patrick said might make them decide whether to keep or fire a coach. No, I'm just going to put it out there.
Dan Patrick
Thank you, toddler.
Todd
If they're on the fence, your opinion could matter.
Dan Patrick
Thank you, Todd. Let me see Dave in Oregon. Hi, Dave. What's on your mind today?
Caller
Hey, Dan, thanks for calling me back.
Dan Patrick
Yep.
Caller
I. I'm following up on Chris in Syracuse's call about Harbaugh and Tomlin swapping teams. And there's only one comp in the history of sports that's appropriate. Would you like to guess what it is or should I just tell you?
Dan Patrick
You should tell me.
Caller
In 1973, New York Yankees pitchers Fritz Peterson and Mike Keckich famously traded families whopping wives, children, and even dogs in a shopping life swap. It involved moving houses and becoming involved with each other's spouses after becoming close friends and attending parties together.
Dan Patrick
Yep. They. I thought they were going to make a movie. I. I've talked to Matt Damon about this, that. I thought that Matt and Ben Affleck were going to make a movie about Fritz Peterson and Mike Keckage. Teammates swapping families. Yes, Todd, I heard they're doing a.
Todd
Creepy for creepy on that. I don't know. ESPN's got something in the works.
Dan Patrick
See?
Todd
30 for 30.
Dan Patrick
I know, but why?
Todd
I thought that was clever creepy.
Dan Patrick
That's the problem. You thought it was clever.
Todd
Don't you find that beyond bizarre? I can't even say it. That's how bizarre and creepy it is that you could exchange families.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Todd
Even the dogs.
Dan Patrick
Paul is not here. Let's not take advantage of that, okay?
Todd
He would have turned his head and gave me some kind of look.
Dan Patrick
Yes, he would have.
Todd
Dylan's doing. Did that need to be said out loud?
Dan Patrick
Mike in Wisconsin. Hey, Mike, what's on your mind today?
Caller
Hey, we're up, fellas. So I agree with what you said, Dan, about not all coordinators being head coaches, but I think also not all head coaches want to become head coaches should be coordinators. So, like Matt LaFleur. He's the play caller for the Packers. It seemed like every time they had a lead, they would. The offense would stall. And maybe it's a coincidence, but he was on the sideline with the Falcons for 28. Three, so.
Dan Patrick
Wow. Thank you, Mike. Too soon. Drew in Nashville. Hi, Drew. Yeah. Hey, Dan.
Caller
Hey. Love me some Dilly Bar in that empty seat there. And Marvin, 511, 2 spins. Hey, quickly, Dan. Hey, we know that your jumper's wet, but do you have any advice I can impart to my son flighting into second base, you being that baseball player that you are.
Dan Patrick
I don't go head first. Don't go head first. That's what I would say the long story baseball career. The older I get, the better I was. Let me take a break. We're going to talk to Reggie Miller. Reggie Miller will be on the call. Wait, how often do the spurs and Thunder play?
Reggie Miller
And they play one more time after this, February 4th in San Antonio. And I'm here for it. Look, I know they've played what, three games over the last two to three weeks, but it has been much watch TV between these two and if you are listening to both sides, they like to kind of downplay and saying, look, it's not a rivalry because I agree with them. A rivalry really starts in the playoffs. Like they have to face one another in the playoffs and then continue to play multiple times. But it feels like it's a playoff type series because they've gone against each other three times over the last two and a half weeks with the spurs winning all three. So tonight again, I think even though they're the champs, this means more to okc and they've had the best record all season. They got off to the unbelievable start, 24. 1. But since then, since the spurs, they haven't played championship like basketball. So tonight is a, to me, in my opinion, a bigger game for the champs because they kind of want to send a message.
Dan Patrick
It's probably an obvious answer, but I'll ask it just to get you on record if you were buying these two stocks, San Antonio or okc, which one.
Reggie Miller
I'm still going with with OKC because they're a proven commodity.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Reggie Miller
I've seen what they've done under duress. I've seen what they've done over a long stretch. I've seen what they've done in game sevens both against Denver and my beloved Pacers. So I think there's more of a track record with the Thunder. As much as I love what the spurs have done, it's unproven and case in point, just their last time out on the road in Minnesota, you're up 18 plus. You're up 13 with about three to four minutes to go and you lose the ball game. Those are games that you have to win. You should win. You're the second best team in the Western Conference behind these Thunder. You've got to win games like that. So if you want to be taken serious, you can't let up on the gas and you got to finish games.
Dan Patrick
Like that the Lakers put a patch on their jerseys commemorating LeBron's 23rd season. Why?
Reggie Miller
I have no idea. That's odd. I mean, maybe it's a pat on the back or maybe they're signifying this. Is it King?
Dan Patrick
Do you think it is?
Reggie Miller
I don't think so. I don't. The way he plays again, he's not the same LeBron that we've seen four years ago, eight years ago, 10 years ago. I get that. But he is still a top 30 player, perhaps, and he can still help your team win. He's just not the unquestioned number one or maybe number two on that team if Austin Reaves is healthy. But I mean, that's a nice pat on the back by the Lakers to put a patch on on their jersey.
Dan Patrick
Why don't they put it on the back? Then it'll be a patch on the back. Okay, Todd, are you kidding me?
Todd
I like that a lot. I was quietly chatting in my head. That was very clever.
Dan Patrick
Reggie is a patch on the back? Yeah, it was just kind of like, okay, we're commemorating 23 years, but does he want to continue to play this way? Like we always talk about? Do you want to go out a certain way, like Aaron Rodgers last night or Travis kelsey? How does LeBron want to go out?
Reggie Miller
Look, I will say it like this. The greatest last game that I ever saw was Kobe Bryant's when he dropped. I believe it was 61 versus the Utah Jazz. That was the best closing game I may have ever seen. And every aging superstar wants to have a go out game like that. Nothing saying that this is LeBron's last season, but I think he wants to have an opportunity, a shot at competing at one more championship. Is this Lakers team built for that? Time will tell us that. I think defensively they're not. Just. They're not quite there yet. And I think LeBron just wants another shot, another opportunity to play for that ring. But it. The way they're built is going to be very difficult in the Western Conference.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, but the Lakers are terrible defensively. You called out Luca. If your best player can't play or doesn't want to play defense, that doesn't.
Reggie Miller
Bode well, but I just can't. He has. What he does off the court is almost as big as what he does on the court. And he has so many connections to the Hollywood Arena. I just can't see him leaving the Lakers unless. Unless maybe one of his old teams come calling like the Cavaliers and saying, look, we have all these. This Talent here. We just don't have a guy that knows how to assemble the locker room and get these guys to play the right way. Could I see LeBron going home to Cleveland with Donovan Mitchell, with Evan? I don't know. Possibly. But that wouldn't be a bad team to go back and try to win another championship with.
Dan Patrick
Can you see LeBron once the NBA does expansion and if they put a team in Vegas. If you're the commissioner, do you kind of lean towards LeBron and an investment group that, that you would want to keep him in the NBA?
Reggie Miller
I think so. Why not? And especially because he wants to be a part of it. I mean, we kind of saw that with Jordan in Charlotte. Right. At one point he was like half co owner there and then eventually bought out. I believe it was Bob Johnson. Was that the owner of BC?
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Reggie Miller
Bought out Mr. Johnson to be the controlling interest of the Bobcats, Hornets, whatever you want to call them. I think the same could be said for LeBron. To have LeBron in his knowledge. Think about this 23 years, I mean, he's seen everything and how the game has changed. Why wouldn't you want to have his fingerprints on a team and building a team, bringing, you know, especially to Vegas. Yeah, yeah, absolutely, if I'm the commissioner. But again, there will be a lot of bidders for that. The way that these sports teams and what they're going for, there'll be a lot of bidders. But I would love to have LeBron James still a part of this game after he retires.
Dan Patrick
Talking to Reggie Miller, the Hall of Famer. He's got The spurs and OKC tonight at 8 Eastern on NBC. And Peacock, James Harden is now the ninth leading scorer in the history of the NBA.
Caller
Wow.
Dan Patrick
But I don't know how we're going to remember him. And what I brought up is he did change the game with the step back jumper that everybody said he's traveling and now everybody does it and it's apparently not traveling. What should.
Reggie Miller
It is traveling. They just get away with it.
Dan Patrick
Okay, okay. The commissioner told me that it was not traveling. So I was taking. Just like they're not carrying the basketball either. But I'm going to remember James Harden probably more for the step back jumper than I am anything else. And I don't know if I'm being fair to him.
Reggie Miller
Look, that's a ton of points. Congratulations. If you're the, if you are in the top 10, if you are in the top 25 of scoring in the NBA, that's an unbelievable and hell of a career. But top 10, we are talking about rooms and levels that only certain people get to. And you've got to have number one a game to get you there, but you've got to be healthy and you've got to have luck to get you there. And you've got to be on successful teams where you were the man, where he came off the bench for this Thunder team, went to Houston and really made. That's where he made his name. That's where he became a bona fide superstar. And then he's. He's had trips elsewhere to Brooklyn and to Philadelphia. And now he's. He's back home in Los Angeles. Shaq was known for power and brute force and all those points of being dominating. I look, I think I remember James Harden, number one. The step back is great. I think a lot of people will probably head roll because his playoff record is not great. And people will say he kind of shrank when the lights got the brightest. But he still has chapters to write. And that's the beauty of this game, is that he's not finished yet. And the way the Clippers are starting to rebound now, remember they got off to that 6 and 21 start and now Kawhi and James Harden and Zubots, they're starting to figure it out and make a push. It can be one of those scary teams at the bottom of that Western Conference. There would be a hard out. I'm not saying they can win, but that's a hard out to go against Kawhi and James Harden.
Dan Patrick
Would you rather have the career of Russell Westbrook Jr. III or James Harden?
Reggie Miller
God, you can't have them both. Both are MVPs are first ballot hall of Famers.
Dan Patrick
Nope. You got.
Reggie Miller
God. How do you pick that? They're almost one in the same. I would go with. I'm gonna go with the guy that's in the top 10 in scoring. I would go with James Harden.
Dan Patrick
But Russ is going to be up there all time stats too.
Reggie Miller
I mean, trouble double or two and a half years, you know, averaging. I mean that's almost unheard of.
Dan Patrick
Rebounds and assist for guards. I mean.
Reggie Miller
Look, you can't go wrong.
Dan Patrick
Who would you want as your 2? Would you want as your team in.
Reggie Miller
The way? I.
Dan Patrick
You don't want Harden the way I play?
Reggie Miller
I would probably go with Russ as my teammate. Yes.
Dan Patrick
What about.
Reggie Miller
Because you're not going to find very many guards that do what. What Russ does, the sacrifice he makes on his body. When you're rebounding like that. That's, It's a different gene. It's a different mindset.
Dan Patrick
I had Bill Cower on last hour, and we were talking about when guys came over to date his daughters, his three daughters. And he treated them like they were players on the Steelers. Like, these are the things I tell my players. This is what I'm going to tell you about dating my daughter. Your kids are what, nine and five.
Reggie Miller
Now?
Dan Patrick
You got a little bit of time before you.
Reggie Miller
I got a lot of time. But you're scaring me with what's coming. Getting ready to come out your mouth because I am not ready for it. And I know you've got a house full of beautiful young ladies as well. And I already told my wife two things. Have the lawyers number on speed dial. And I'm not playing. I'm serious about this. I, I, Look, I'm, I'm just not playing when it comes to my girls. And nothing will ever be good enough for them. That's just how I feel. And any misstep dad is stepping in. And if you like it, I just, I'm not playing with it. I just, I'm not. Have the lawyer's number on speed dial.
Dan Patrick
You'll be better as you, as they get older. You trust. I, I was right there with you, and then all of a sudden, you trust them. You raise them right and you, you just, you want them to make the right decisions. That's the biggest thing. But it's, it's.
Reggie Miller
I hope I'm laying a great. I hope I'm laying a great foundation. Foundation for them. Just see how I interact with mom and how we treat women.
Dan Patrick
That's key.
Reggie Miller
That's big. But also too. In today's age of all these damn documentaries and scary. It's just the world, it's too volatile for me to handle right now. And I'm just telling you, Theodore, for all you young boys, don't come, don't, don't come half stepping because I am not playing. I'm not playing. I've lived a great life. I'm sick. I don't care about going into the pokey. I don't care.
Dan Patrick
You're gonna do time. You're willing to do time.
Reggie Miller
I don't care.
Dan Patrick
Oh, you'll. You'll be soft. Yeah.
Reggie Miller
Brothers that are willing to do the same.
Dan Patrick
I got you 26th on the all time scoring list.
Reggie Miller
I'm just outside.
Dan Patrick
I know you're not gonna, you're not gonna stay there, though.
Reggie Miller
Is there any way I can come back? Well, how many points am I behind 25?
Dan Patrick
I don't. Marvin, would you check how many points am I.
Reggie Miller
But if it's. If it's a year's worth.
Marvin
No, no, no, no. So you're pretty close to Alex English. You're at 25, 279. Alex English is at 25. 6. 13.
Reggie Miller
That is. That's like 30, 35 games.
Dan Patrick
Yes. Marvin.
Marvin
That's a night at the Garden for Reggie.
Dan Patrick
Oh, It'd be a great story if you came out of retirement.
Reggie Miller
Not happening. Hey, but. But, you know, I saw you talking earlier about Aaron Rodgers, and I hope this isn't it. You know, you're talking about LeBron and the patch. Patch on the back, whatever. He doesn't want to go on how last night unfolded.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, but there's no guarantee it's any better next year, right?
Reggie Miller
I know, but you kind of want to script how it ends. And did you script? Yes. How I ended in my losses to the Detroit Pistons in the playoffs. I couldn't have asked for a better script. Thank you. Larry Brown, the timeouts. So the fans, it happened at home, Them defeating us. I believe it was in game six or something. And the extra. The timeout by Carlisle, the extra timeout by Larry Brown, the Pistons walking over to our side of the floor in the state. Yes, it was unscripted, but it was scripted well. That's how I went out. I made the playoffs. I gave everything I got. Last night was not Aaron Rodgers best, because we've seen him at the very high of his game, and I just hope this isn't it.
Dan Patrick
But did you have to retire?
Reggie Miller
I didn't have to retire.
Dan Patrick
Why?
Reggie Miller
The game was changing. It was getting younger. And again, I retired when I was 39. Aaron Rodgers is 41. And some of those hits he was taking, I felt. Yeah, I felt it watching the game from the steakhouse. I was like, you feel that when the older you get, every bumps and bruise you feel, and every day trying to get up and go to practice and training camp, it's. It just takes a toll on your body the older you get. So that's why I applaud James Harden, LeBron, Russell. These guys, Stephen Curry, these guys are getting long in the tooth. And trust me when I tell you this, they feel it. You feel it.
Dan Patrick
It'll be a knock, knock, knock. Hello, Mr. Miller, is your daughter here? And they're going to be so nice, and they're going to be polite. They're going to say all the things that they think you want to hear.
Reggie Miller
Yep, that's why I've been blessed to have done this game and saved some money. That's what PIs are for. Trust me, they will have eyes on them. I don't play. I don't play when it comes to my girls. And the good thing that I had a boy first and I told them.
Dan Patrick
Don'T be a punk.
Reggie Miller
You better protect these girls because if you don't protect the girls, you and I are going to have a problem.
Dan Patrick
But Cheryl protected you didn't.
Reggie Miller
That's right. That's how it should be. Family protects family. And our two older brothers protected Cheryl.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Reggie Miller
See the trickle down effect.
Dan Patrick
We have yet another Spurs Thunder game tonight with Reg, Noah, Eagle. Have fun tonight. Good to talk.
Reggie Miller
It's gonna be a good one. It's going to be hot.
Dan Patrick
That'll be tonight. It'll be OKC. That's at 8 Eastern on NBC in Peacock. We'll take a break. Last call for phone calls. What we learned, what's in store tomorrow and this day in sports history. Last call for phone calls. What we learned, what's in store tomorrow. You know that I can't get through a movie or a show. I can't just sit unless I go to a theater. And when I went to see Marty Supreme, I'm in the theater, so I watched it all the way through. But the Leonardo DiCaprio movie, what is it? One hurdle after another. And it was recognized by the critics, but one battle after another. Is that what it is? And I watched 15 minutes, and then I turned it off because I thought, I don't know if I'm gonna like this. But then I started to, you know, hear and read a lot of the reviews, and people were hailing this, you know, wasn't a blockb movie at the theater, but it was critically acclaimed. Ben Nicio Del Toro and Sean Penn. And you got Leonardo DiCaprio. Who is the Tiana Taylor? Is that right? She holds her own with DiCaprio. Sean Penn's incredible in this movie. Incredible. And Seaton brought it up yesterday. Not on the show, but he was talking about Sean Penn's performance. And I go, all right, I'm gonna give this another try. So I'm about, I don't know, hour 10 into this.
Wells Fargo Terms Voice
It's a long movie.
Dan Patrick
Yes, it is.
Wells Fargo Terms Voice
It's a. It's a very long movie.
Dan Patrick
Sean Penn's great. Yeah. And I never, like, I've seen him in movies, and, you know, you know, he's in a scene, but he's not really playing Sean Penn in this. He just gives you, like. Like different nuances that you just go. And Benicio Del Toro is great in everything that he's in. DiCaprio is kind of becoming. He plays Leonardo DiCaprio in the movie. Although he plays a stoner pretty. Pretty well in here.
Wells Fargo Terms Voice
Convincing.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, he's. He's done it before, but Sean Penn.
Wells Fargo Terms Voice
Hey, you know, I think Sean Penn was awesome in that movie. And I thought Benicio Del Toro and Leonardo DiCaprio should do more movies together, because on screen, I thought they were fantastic together. They should start doing a whole bunch of stuff.
Dan Patrick
All right, last call for phone calls. Yes, Marvin, you have a Question.
Reggie Miller
Yeah.
Marvin
Quick question about the NFL rivalries. Has the Bears packers overtaken Raven Steelers as the most intense rivalry in the NFL? Like nationally. I know in the Midwest, I'm sure Packers, Bears. But nationally, has it overtaken Raven Steelers?
Dan Patrick
Recency bias. Recency bias.
Marvin
As long as Ben Johnson stays the coach, it'll stay intense, but I'm fine with it.
Dan Patrick
You know, when somebody said, oh, he's showing disrespect. Yeah, all right, I'm okay with it. Do you have Ben Johnson talking about this? All right, here we go. Like I said before, there's, there's a rivalry that exists between these two teams.
Reggie Miller
Something that, that I fully recognize and.
Dan Patrick
I'm a part of. And yeah, I mean, there's, I just, I don't like that team. So George and I have talked and we're on the same page. Yeah, I'm fine with it. I'm good with this. It's okay. Yes, Dylan? Well, historically it's been a pretty one sided rivalry too. Like Raven Steelers, I feel like is usually pretty neck and neck. But the Bears care a lot more about the packers than the other way around. Yeah, I mean, this, this has the feeling of the Red Sox and the Yankees until the Red Sox beat them when it mattered. Because, you know, we, we would talk about that. It felt like every year, this isn't a rivalry until the Red Sox win. Then the Red Sox won. But we don't even look at it as much of a. I don't think we're fixated on the rivalry the way we were because it was. Well, all I know is when I was at Sports center, we were fixated on it. Therefore America had to be fixated. It's like Duke in North Carolina. Hey, we're fixated on this, so you gotta be fixated. Yes, Marv.
Marvin
Sunday night baseball, it was 17 straight Red Sox, Yankees games that were four hours long.
Dan Patrick
Oh, all right, let me get a couple of phone calls in here. Joe in Portland. Hi, Joe. What's on your mind today?
Caller
Thank you. Have an NCAA question and a comment for when you retire.
Dan Patrick
Oh, okay.
Caller
Okay. Grew up in Indiana and I left at age 30. From my perspective, Indiana folks will change their values when money is involved. Do you think that the NCAA would be different if it had remained in Kansas City?
Dan Patrick
Not sure. I'm not sure what you're saying, Joe. That because the NCAA relocated to Indianapolis.
Caller
Yes. And that money is a driving force for Indiana and that they will, if money's involved, they'll overlook what is a value driven area in order to chase that money. And I think Kansas City would have been a location that might have had a better nil display and that sort of thing.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, you're losing me here, but thanks for the phone call. Too late in the show for me to think that too that deeply about this. Something about money and nil and Indiana and all I know is Indiana has become a football state.
Wells Fargo Terms Voice
And all I know is that everybody is like, you know what, Hire all the, you know, recruit all the 23 year olds you possibly can because that was their. Seems to be part of their magic sauce.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. And everybody's now realizing, oh, my God, Indiana's. They have all these guys who are 23, 24 years of age. Have you watched March Madness in the last couple of years? You got grown men who are playing. They've transferred three or four times. They're 23, 24 years of age. It's there, it's been happening. But then you had the COVID year that that led to this. But I would be taking transfers all day long if I'm a head coach in college, all day, certainly in football. I want to know what you did, not what you can do. And remember when the recruits would get there and they'd have three hats and boy, it was a big deal. Mothership would, you know, have it on Sports Center. We don't get caught up in that. Now. It's that guy was there, now he can come here and this is the price. Yes.
Todd
Todd, is there any thought to. Well, you transferred once before. You're going to come to me, then you're going to leave me or you're just kind of living for that season.
Dan Patrick
I guess it's. It's year to year. Let's not kid anybody. Yes, Marvin?
Marvin
I haven't seen Tom LuganBuild in about five years.
Dan Patrick
Wow. This day in sports history, Michael Jordan announced his second retirement. Let's go around the room what we learned on the program. Todd, did you learn anything today?
Todd
I sure did. Bill Carroll told any boys dating his daughters to be aware of choices and consequences. Says have them back by midnight.
Dan Patrick
Seaton, what did you learn today?
Wells Fargo Terms Voice
Well, Coward's feeling good today.
Dan Patrick
He got fired up.
Wells Fargo Terms Voice
Yeah, he's feeling good.
Dan Patrick
Marvin.
Marvin
Seaton said Fritzi is our Caleb Williams.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Todd
Up and down. Yeah.
Dan Patrick
Ish. Dylan. In for Fritz or in for Paulie? Paulie might be sicker than Mike Tomlin today. Todd, what did I learn today?
Todd
We all learned your line of the day patch on the back for LeBron's 23.

Date: January 13, 2026
Podcast: iHeartPodcasts and Dan Patrick Podcast Network
Host: Dan Patrick
Guest: Reggie Miller (NBA Hall of Famer)
This hour of "The Dan Patrick Show" opens with a lively sports talk among the Danettes about NFL futures, transitions into NBA analysis with Hall of Famer Reggie Miller, and mixes in trademark humor. The main focus is the looming future of marquee sports names such as Aaron Rodgers, Mike Tomlin, and LeBron James, plus a deep dive into NBA narratives—particularly the Thunder-Spurs rivalry, LeBron’s legacy, and Reggie’s takes on James Harden and Russell Westbrook.
“I’m going to take Troy Aikman’s eyes on Aaron Rodgers’ future... I think he’s played his last game.” — Dan Patrick (04:24)
“I could see him being a part of a podcast network and making a lot of money.” — Dan Patrick (07:32)
"Aaron’s talking like this hot seat thing is new. Coaches get fired after winning Super Bowls, might I add." — Marvin (12:41)
“It has been must-watch TV... It feels like a playoff type series because they’ve gone against each other three times over the last two and a half weeks...” — Reggie Miller (22:09)
“If you want to be taken serious, you can’t let up on the gas and you got to finish games.” — Reggie Miller (23:37)
“Why don’t they put it on the back? Then it’d be a patch on the back.” — Dan Patrick (25:30)
“That’s odd... maybe it’s a pat on the back or maybe they’re signifying this is it, King?” — Reggie Miller (24:38)
“Why wouldn’t you want to have his fingerprints on a team?” — Reggie Miller (28:36)
“The game was changing. It was getting younger. I retired at 39, Aaron Rodgers is 41… it just takes a toll…” — Reggie Miller (37:57)
“I’ve lived a great life... I don’t care about going into the pokey. I don’t care.” — Reggie Miller (35:43)
Dan on Rodgers (about retiring after a bad game):
“Yes, you can. Check Dan Marino’s last game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He lost, I think, 62 to 7.” (06:54)
Reggie on LeBron retiring:
“He is still a top 30 player, perhaps, and he can still help your team win. He’s just not the unquestioned number one or maybe number two...” (24:53)
Dan’s zinger about Lakers’ jersey patch:
“Why don’t they put it on the back? Then it’ll be a patch on the back.” (25:30)
On Harden’s stepback:
“It IS traveling. They just get away with it.” — Reggie Miller (29:52)
On being a protective dad:
“That’s what PIs are for. Trust me, they will have eyes on them. I don’t play when it comes to my girls.” — Reggie Miller (38:57)
Reggie on choosing Harden vs. Russ as a teammate:
“I would probably go with Russ as my teammate. You’re not going to find very many guards that do what Russ does, the sacrifice he makes on his body...” (33:11)
Dan keeps the mood witty and conversational, trading insightful analysis with jokes (especially about the Lakers' patch). Reggie is candid, affable, and reflective—whether breaking down NBA action or talking about “dad life.” The show mixes serious sports takes with lighthearted banter for a casual, accessible vibe.
This episode is a sports fan’s feast—offering perspective on NFL retirements, the evolving NBA landscape, and how athletes’ legacies are shaped. Dan and Reggie’s rapport brings both expertise and levity, delivering entertainment alongside smart, honest commentary. Whether you want the NBA’s inside scoop, deep NFL talk, or a few laughs, Hour 3 delivers a winning mix.
