This is an iHeart podcast. Hi, I'm Buzz Knight, the host of the Taking a Walk podcast, and join me for an upcoming episode with Seth MacFarlane, the creator of Family Guy, talking about his new Frank Sinatra music project. Anyone who loves music would salivate over something like this. The biggest question for us was, what's in these boxes? Really, the most thrilling part was hiring an orchestra and just playing what was in these boxes. Listen to Taking a walk on the iHeartRadio app, Apple PODC, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Jake Hofer and this is back 40, a limited series show on Wire to Hunt, part of Meat Eaters Podcast Network. Should you? That's what the real question is. Stand without good access is not a good stand. Listen to Back 40 on iHeartRadio app, Apple podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. Good morning those watching on Peacock and those listening to our great radio affiliates around the country. Over 400 cities that carry this program. We take a little timeout from the Cowboys, Packers, Micah Parsons news. There's a lot of money coming in on Texas in the last 24 hours. A lot of money on the Texas Longhorns. Ohio State was favored by one and a half. I thought it would be a pick them by game time. Now Texas is a half point favorite in this game. Coming up on Saturday at noon. Some other point spreads. Alabama two touchdowns over Florida State. LSU plus four at Clemson is spicy. And Notre Dame minus two and a half at Miami. Just some of the bigger games. What is North Carolina on Monday night do they are they still an underdog? Dylan, I'm checking right now. Thought they were getting three points. Three and a half points. Paulie. Yep. Okay. By the way, it is a meet Friday and Dylan, Dylan has been smoking his brisket. Hey now. For the last 12 hours and should be ready to come off the Traeger grill coming up here later on this hour. He spent the night here at the Man Cave. And I thought that that was, you know, that's a man who has just created a legacy. When they think of Dylan years from now. Isn't that the guy who spent the night at the Man Cave smoking his brisket? I'll take any legacy I can get, Dan. Also, Capri salad, although I was just informed it's you don't pronounce the e at the end of it's Capri's salad. And I go, I don't think so. It's Capri. I've always said caprese. I've been corrected before, too. And honestly, either one, yeah, Paul, I think, I think it's Caprese. Caprese Caprese. Not Caprize, I think. Okay, Caprese. We also have coleslaw, potato salad. Who has it better than we do? Nobody. All righty. We'll get to more phone calls coming up. Let me see. Poll question for the final hour of the program. Dylan is going to be one. All right, then. Well, do you want the results from our previous one? Sure. By the way, It's a big 10 Saturday night. It'll be NBC and Peacock in the big house. New Mexico and number 14, Michigan. Here comes Saturday night. And looking at the point spread for that, New Mexico is getting 34 and a half at Michigan. All right, Dill, that's a line I like. Dan, you like New Mexico? Yeah, of course you do. So the previous poll question was, does a handshake deal make more sense than a fully ironed out contract in writing that has been reviewed by professionals? 85% say no. Okay. Surprisingly, 15% say yes. The new poll question. I like the worst trade. Dallas trading Micah or Dallas trading Luca? Well, which one surprised you more? I mean, there's. I'm a little bit surprised that Jerry actually traded Micah and you trade him in the nfc. Luca, that came out of nowhere. And it feels like both of these franchises didn't really entertain a lot of other offers because it felt like Dallas was sending him to la and it didn't sound like anybody else was in. In the mix. Micah. Now, there have been reports that other teams kind of kick the tires, but I don't know if anybody put forth an offer for Micah Parsons, except for Green Bay. Couple of phone calls in here. We're six days until the NFL opener. And I was talking to an NFL executive yesterday, former NFL executive, and he said, you know, this was before Micah got traded. And he said, you know, Dallas has got to get their game plan ready on Sunday. That usually, you know, you got to have a good six days, five days ready to go. So you're really ready to dive in on Wednesday. Now, this is a Thursday night game. And he said, you know, how much can you use Micah? How much are you going to be able to use him in a situation like that? And he said, what happens a lot of times, you know, Jarell Reavis did this, where he joined the Jets, I think, and then he got hurt right after that, pulled a hamstring or tweaked a hamstring because you're not ready to play football. And by all accounts, he's been a hold in and not participating in any drills there. I don't know how ready he packers got the Lions, don't they, opening week and, and how much can you lean on him in a huge divisional game? That's going to be an issue as well. Buster and Lancaster. Hey buster. Hey there. Mr. Dan is here. Buster, first of all, shout out to Dylan. Doing the Lords work on the brisket there? I know that's a long shift, but hey, you know what they say you gotta risk it to get the brisket. So I just wanted to see what you thought of my take here. I think Jerry is pulling an old Texas two step on us and I still think he's got a grand plan. He's going to go flipping some of these picks and the probably bad pick that they're going to get this year and that man's going for Arch Manning. And throw a little cayenne pepper on that take for you. Why don't they bring in Nick Saban as well? Oh my God, let me let Brian Schottenheimer have a year here. Do I think they're going to move on from Dak Prescott sooner than later? Yes, I do. But you know you got him for this year and next year and then after that you move on from him. But everybody. So Jerry went from a guy who what are you doing? To now he's going to be the genius. He's going to flip these picks and he's going to bring in a player. Well, you had the player. You didn't. You didn't have to get the picks to bring in the player. You just had to pay the player. Yes, Dill, no one's really brought up Brian Schottenheimer in this. He kind of has just been getting flogged basically since he got hired. And then they just traded away the best player. They're like, we're really going to give you nothing to work with. Well, he should get used to this, not really having a voice. You know that that's what the job is. You know, you're coaching. But we know who the coach is. Ryan in South Dakota. Hi Ryan. What's on your mind? Morning gentlemen. I, I absolutely love this trade for my Green Bay packers, but I don't feel great about walking into Texas and absolutely fleecing an 80 year old man. That does not feel great. But the person I feel bad for in this is Kenny Clark. Our fan base loves that guy. I feel bad that he's going to the situation in Dallas. He didn't ask for this. He's going to catch a lot of strays that he doesn't deserve. But glad to have Micah in Green Bay. All right, thank you, Ryan. Well, Stephen Jones could have helped Jerry Jones there. And so if you feel like, you know, we shouldn't have taken advantage of Jerry Jones, if Jerry trusted other people, then maybe he would allow them to step in and say, hey, we could do better than this. Why don't we see if there are other teams might be interested in Micah Parsons or hey, Jerry's really holding a grudge against Micah back in March. How about we trade him? How about we, you know, make him available to anybody who's interested in him and back then what it would have cost you to bring in Micah Parsons would have been a bargain. If somebody had traded for him, then you would have gotten more draft picks. The team who then brings him in and signs him is going to get a bargain. You know, as we look at what happened with those contracts at that position, Austin in Louisiana. Hi, Austin. What's on your mind? Hey, what up, dp? Thanks for calling me back. Yep. First off, I just want to say shout out DTGG Dylan, the graphics guy, I think he's been a great addition to the content wise. And other than his -29 gambling units, those were all golf bets. Dan, I think he's been really good, you know, so get to my take and see what you think about it. You know, I'm going to take you back to not Herschel Walker days. Not ten years ago, not five years ago. Take you back two and a half months ago when another very high profile sports franchise traded their best player, the Boston Red Sox trading Rafael Devers for a pack of gum. You know, it was widely panned. Everybody crapped on Craig Breslow. They didn't know what he was doing, blah, blah, blah. The same stuff you're going to hear about Jerry Jones today. Since then, the Boston Red Sox have had the second best winning percentage in the American League and are firmly supplanted in the playoffs. Now this Red Sox team hasn't made the playoffs in five years, Dan. That's. With Rafael Devers on the team they're going to make. But I can't give the GM credit. He's also the same GM who brought in Raphael Devers. Different sport. I get it, I get it. But I think that what won't be talked about today, Dan, is, is locker room chemistry. And that mattered for the Red Sox. Now I'm not saying that Parsons is a locker room cancer or anything like that. Okay. But. Okay, hold on here and thank you, Austin. If that's the case and you're talking about the locker room. And this is a guy who's got a loud mouth. He's got his own podcast. Then why were you trying to sign him in March? Like, what changed? He didn't get louder, did he? I mean, he didn't go on social media and saying, I'm out of here. See you done with the Cowboys. And everybody was like, what? I'm sure these were things that bothered Jerry. Like, who is Micah Parsons to do this to me? Didn't you see the eight part documentary on me? Who are you? What have you won? I'm a Hall of Famer and I'm sure that he was bothered by a 26 year old kid. And he's like, no, you listen to me. Yes, Marvin, if you're a Cowboys fan, realistically, what do you consider to be a successful season? A winning record? Maybe, maybe in the conversation for the playoffs, but I don't, I don't know what the reasonable expectations are now. Dak was injured last year. They win seven games, but they had a terrible defense last year. And I have no problem trading somebody. But tell me, when you're trading, what kind of leverage do you have and what are you getting in return? All of those things went against the Cowboys. It's weird to have a compass and you don't pick a direction. That's what it feels like. We're all in. I don't know what that meant. We're all in. We're all in trouble. Like, what are you all in on? But pick a direction, pick a lane and then stay with that. And. And if I'm a fan of ownership, then I'd be like, all right, he's got an idea, he's got it. You know, he's got a direction. Great. It doesn't sound like they have a direction here. Maybe. Hey, bring back Zeke Elliot to. Oh, you're at Joe in Wisconsin. Hi, Joe. What's on your mind? Hey, dp. Fifth time, a long time. We just finished golf league, sitting out there with the boys, drinking a few trannies, and the news comes through. So the first thing we all do is jump on our phone and get to the bookies website to try to beat the odds, which we did. So got locked in there. And then I'm with Rob Demoski on the deal. I think you bring him to a fresh start, get him in a new space. He doesn't have to worry about all the glitz and glamour with the Cowboys, and he just comes to Green Bay and plays some football. All right, thank you, Joe. Trannies are Transfusions. If you've been on the golf course at transfusion. Well, you don't have to be on the golf course to have a transfusion. What's in a transfusion, Dylan? Thank you for asking me, Dan. It's vodka, ginger ale, and grape juice with the lime wedge. I. I remember being at pebble beach, and I was out there for my 60th birthday, and I brought in 11 other guys, including a couple of my brothers. Darius Rucker came out, and one guy went really hard the night before, and then we were going to play pebble beach the next day. And if you've been to Pebble. So there's one, there's two, three. Fourth hole, there was a cart person there, and they were making transfusions. So the one guy went really, really hard, was lying down on the bench waiting for. He fell asleep. He was waiting for his transfusion. We left him. I don't. I don't know when he woke up all of a sudden, if they drove him back out, you know, four holes later. But I just remember he needed transfusions. Like, I think he needed, literally a transfusion. But he had a few of those transfusions. Next thing I know, he's back, and he's in it for the long haul. Yes. Dill. Yeah, that's a. I feel like if you're doing a golf trip at a place like pebble, that's an expensive round to show up and fall asleep for, so you want to be at least in some shape. By the way, Jerry, at his press conference was asked about the urgency of bringing a winner to Dallas. We have the highest paid player in the NFL at quarterback, and we made that commitment last year, and we're proud we made it. It had everything to do with this decision. Everything. It is give us every opportunity with Dak, Prescott and Lamb and the base that we've got to win now. What does that mean? So we're proud that we overpaid for Dak. He got hurt. He's 32. What? They should really limit the number of times he gets in front of a microphone. They should, because. Okay, is that gonna help you win all these games? But Micah wouldn't help you win games, and you overpaid for him, but you wouldn't overpay for Micah Parsons. I'd overpay for Micah Parsons. He's 20. He's six years younger. DAXMAN banged up. It just. Sometimes it belies logic where you're just going. I. I really don't know what he's talking about. And it feels like Jerry gets in front of the media and he just starts talking. It's not like he has a game plan. He's just going to talk and then I'll figure it out while I'm talking. And you know, these aren't really crisp comments. They're just kind of floating, you know, like clouds. And they're like, oh boy, where are we going with this? Oh, no, it'll be good. It's not raining. It's not going to be, you know, and then there's thunder and lightning. Yes. Marvin. Yeah. Watching the press conference yesterday, there was about eight different comments that he made where I would have just raised my hand. What does that mean? Because you just said a bunch of words. Well, look, everybody's afraid of access there. You want to be careful. I want to be respectful to Jerry. It's just I. Jerry doesn't read the room and it's read the room that he's in controlling. And that's the disappointing part is he did something incredible and what he built this team into and they haven't been good and he still built them into a double digit, billion dollar, you know, entity. It's just the NFL's move past him that's unfortunate. Yeah, more. And I think as a Cowboys fan in the past 30 years, it's not like they've been. Sorry. They've had some great regular seasons where it's like they give Cowboys fans just enough hope to think they can pull off another super bowl. Just a crash and burn in the playoffs. And that's happened me about four or five times with bad home playoff losses. I appreciate Micah Parsons when, when he plays at, you know, his peak level, he's probably the best player, best defensive player in the game. I just want to make sure that he's going to be consistently great. Not, hey, I'm going to kind of be there and then I'll ramp it up a little bit. I want to make sure that he acts like he's the greatest player, defensive player in the game. I can count on miles Garrett and T.J. watt and Max Crosby to be great, consistently great. I want to make sure that Micah Parsons is going to be there and want to dominate. Yes, Marvin. Well, he's going to another fan base that loves their team just as much as the Cowboys. So there's no room for. He could kind of turn it on and off. They're not going to accept that in Green Bay, especially not for that price. Let's take a break. We're going to talk to Vince Young the national title winner at Texas, finish runner up in the Heisman. I remember when Reggie Bush lost his Heisman. Well, they took it away and Paulie goes. Vince Young finished second. He should get the Heisman. So I'll ask Vince about that coming up and about this game with what advice he would give to Arch Manning going into Columbus. We'll take a break. More of your phone calls coming up as well. Nisbeat Friday. We're back after this. Be sure to catch the live edition of the Dan Patrick show, weekdays at 9am Eastern, 6am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app. Hey, we're Covino and Rich, Fox Sports radio every day 5 to 7pm Eastern. Anyone who loves music would salivate over something like this. The biggest question for us was, what's in these boxes? There were a few unplayed gems that we had been alerted to by Charlie Pinion of Sinatra Enterprises. So we knew that certain songs like Shadow of youf Smile, which actually is not on this record, it'll be on the next one. Seth MacFarlane Don Rickles went up to Frank Sinatra and he said, listen, I'm gonna be having dinner with this lovely woman and I, you know, would you come over and say hi? And just so you know. Cause I feel like if she sees that I know you, it's gonna make me look really cool and, you know, I might have a good night. During the middle of dinner, Frank walks over and says, don, hi, how are you? And Don goes, frank, please, I'm in the middle of dinner. Seth MacFarlane on the taking a Walk podcast. We're moving towards liberation together. Listen to the Unwanted Sorority. New episodes every Thursday on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. Case you're wondering, the Eagles Cowboys betting line opening night next Thursday. Seven and a half. Prior to the Micah Parsons deal, it was seven and a half. I guess the bookies, the odds makers didn't think he was going to play or if he did, how much he would play and would it even have an impact here? So it's stayed the same at seven and a half. 8773-DP-SHoM email address dpdanpatrick.com Twitter handle @dpshow he is Vince Young, former Texas quarterback and won a national championship back in oh five, beating USC Heisman Trophy runner up and has a podcast, it's called the Stampede, the Texas Longhorns. It's a weekly show. It's Vince, former coach Mack Brown and stories that you haven't heard before. Go to the stampedeut.com to subscribe. There he is, Vince Young joining us on the program. Can you relate to the pressure that Arch Manning is going to face coming up this season? Yes, a lot of it. But he's. He's ready for it. He's ready for it. He's definitely ready for it. Okay, what do you see in him so far? Because it's been a small sample size that leads you to believe he's ready for this? Well, just being around him, the way he carries himself, he has that I respect you kind of attitude, character. Like it's about my teammates. He has fun, he's goofy, he's silly. He even challenged me one day. I was throwing the ball to my son on the football field and he was like, vy, do you still got it? Like what? Good one, good one. So that type of things right there, just to show me what type of person he is. And, you know, a lot of people don't understand when you have two uncles and a dad that's in your family that went through it all and you was a kid just sitting behind the scenes watching it and learning it, even getting small words from your uncle and dad, you know, that resonates for you as you get older as a kid. So you can see it in him, and I can feel it, too, when he talks and how you carry yourself. How successful were you against Eli and Peyton? Pretty, pretty successful. I mean, me and Peyton went at it because we had to play him twice, twice a year. And then I think I'm undefeated against Eli. I got Eli a couple times. Okay, but when you see Peyton, do you see Arch more like Eli or Peyton or neither? Neither. You know, I feel like he has the traits. I think he has that big head like his uncle. But he doesn't run like his uncles. He don't run like his uncle. And I feel like he has his own swag, has his own character, especially with this generation. You can tell with this generation, these guys, you know, they have a. They have a little bit more fun with their teammates and. Which is a good thing because of the fact, like, in order to win on the level that he's on at Texas, you got to have a little bit more chemistry and more character with your guys. And you can see that with the whole entire Texas team. If you ran a 40 against Arch, who's winning? He got me right now. He does. Unless he give me a week or two to warm up, and it take that long for me to warm up right now. But you could run a 40 and 4, 6 I can get about it in 4, 6. Not just coming out the stands or something like that. No, I won't get it. But if they give me like a couple hours in the back. Yeah, give me a hot tub and some cold tubs and stuff like that, then. Yeah. What highlight comes to mind when you think of your career? Looking back? What's. What's the one highlight you want fans to remember? Oh, man, my favorite is I graduated. You know, a lot of people didn't in my neighborhoods and my peers and the doubters didn't think that I was going to finish with that piece of paper. So that's one of my major highlights for my whole entire family because I was the first to graduate and then I set the tone for my kids as well to, to go and get a degree as well. Talking to Vince Young, former Texas quarterback, won a national championship in 05 and it's called the Stampede, a podcast on the Texas Longhorn. So it's a weekly show hosted by Vince with Mac Brown and called the stampede stampedeut.com to subscribe take me in the huddle. National title game, USC and Mack Brown sends in the play. What is the play? When you run for the touchdown, the play is menu too. So it's something we ran just about all the time. It was one of the top plays that we ran that I felt like a lot of people couldn't stop. And we was very successful in it, percentage wise. And before we left Austin, Coach Brown and coach Greg Davis, offensive coordinator at the time, was if the game was on the line, what play, what play would you call him? And me being who I am, is quarterback sneak, you know, I want the ball in my hands. And you know, coaches, this is why coaches coach and players play. They was like, why wouldn't we just call it a pass play? And he gives you both options. And sure enough, it happened. Just how we talked about it before we left Austin, it felt like there they had a spy, but the spy wasn't fast enough to catch you. Well, first of all, you know, they ran that blitz a couple times, that strong, strong blitz a couple times. And all our guys did was stay at home, did what they supposed to do. And then Selvin Young did what he's supposed to do. If there's nobody there, run your route. And he ran his route to the point that he got Rucker to focus on him just enough for me to take off with the ball. So, you know, a lot of people give me a lot of credit for that play, but I give A lot of credit to my old line and Sylvan Young for doing everybody doing their job. And, you know, I can find that. That spy guy for me. Best player you played against. Best player. And this in college or pros. Just period. Period. Oh, man, it's a couple of names out there. Ed Reed, man. A.J. hawk. That Ohio State game that was on my butt the whole time. Troy Paloma. Unbelievable player. Big Harrison. Pittsburgh. Still, there's D line, man. It's a long list. James Harrison. Is he crazy? Yeah, he dumped me. I don't know if anybody remember that. He. He body slapped my butt in that game. Did you say anything? I was pretty pissed. I didn't say nothing to him. I was pretty pissed at the referees for allowing it to happen. It looked like wwe. I'm looking. Exactly. So I was like, man, I need to get my weight up. I need to eat some more potatoes. He just made that look so easy. Did you ever think about asking for the Heisman when Reggie Bush had it taken away? No. They tried to give it to me, but, you know, I didn't want to take it because of the fact that he won it fair and square. So, you know, Reggie was a dynamic player, and he's a great individual character guy that I appreciate even that to this day when we have opportunity to come together and do things together. He's just a fun person. And he wanted fair score because he wanted on the field, is what you're saying. He definitely wanted on the field for sure. Yeah. If the Heisman was probably after, then I promise you, I think we probably would have. They would have gave it to me. But he earned a fair square for sure. But you didn't have a chip on your shoulder going into the national title game. Yeah, I was pissed off a little bit, and I was definitely upset because I wanted to bring that Heisman back to Austin because, you know, Earl Campbell and Ricky Williams won it. You know, a lot of people don't understand that the Heisman Trophy is not just an individual accolade, is actually a team award. So I really wanted to bring that back home to Austin and so we can have three Heisman trophies that the University of Texas. Yeah, but you got the national title, and you'd rather have a national title than a Heisman. Yeah, and we needed that because I think it was 37 years before we had a championship. So we definitely need to bring that trophy back to Austin, Texas, and the state of Texas. Is Matthew McConaughey ever suggested to put you in a movie? I haven't tapped him on his shoulder yet about that yet, but it's coming. Oh, it is. I will. Some things that I. That's working underneath the radar. But, you know, for him to mentor Bijan right now, I thought that was pretty cool because Bijan wants to get into acting when he's done playing and, well, while he's playing and for him to, for Matthew to give him guidance on that, you know, I should have took advantage of that a long time ago. But, you know, I'm happy that he's doing that for a lot of the, you know, young athletes out there that want to get probably involved with in the movies. You on the sidelines on Saturday? Oh, yeah, I don't too much let my Longhorn go too many places without me now. Does Sarkeesian, has he ever asked you for advice? I spoke to the team before, you know, kind of gave. Give them, you know, things that they should work on, things that they should focus on understanding the tradition of the University of Texas, you know, things like that. You know, I, I didn't enjoy doing that, but most, I don't, I don't bother coach. I just like being around him. He's a great coach, pretty good coach. He's down to earth. You know, I like talking to him about the USC games and talking football. You know, he played at byu quarterback. You know, we, we kind of in the same position because we played in the same, you know, same, the same position. So it's always cool to be around Coach Stark. And Sark was there at USC when you won the national title. Yeah. So, you know, we had to ask him like, why did you, why you didn't have Reggie Bush in the game on that, that play. So everybody wanted to know that. So that was the first question I had to ask when I first met him. I love it when he came to Texas and, you know, became the head coach of the University of Texas. Well, have fun in Columbus. Hopefully they treat you nice and good luck with the podcast, Vince. Yeah, hopefully they'll treat me. Like you said, it's gonna be really wild out there, but thanks, man. I'm glad to have opportunity to chat, which is good to see you. That's Vince Young, former Texas quarterback. He was the 06 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, two time Pro bowl quarterback as well. I'm hearing from USC fans, why do you have Vince Young on? I go, why are you so sensitive? I mean, I have Matt Leonard on. We'll have Lindale White on if you want to. Nice. Paul. Yes, Todd. We've had Sanchez, Reggie Bush. We've had plenty of usc Kaiser. I know, but Vince Young ran in the touchdown and they lost the national. They'll have to get over it. There was 2005. Oh. Coming from you getting over something like 39, 20, 42, 10 and 55. 10. Super Bowls. The Stampede podcast, the Texas Longhorns with Vince and Mack Brown. You can go to the stampedeut.com to subscribe. Let's see. Deanna in Albuquerque. Hi, Deanna. Hello. Hi. I'd like to weigh in for my husband Ryan at 64235. He's a die hard fan and been listening to y' all forever. River. And it's his birthday today and his name is Ryan. Ryan. Okay, here we go. Three, two. What? Paul? Oh, just getting the crescendo. Oh, you were. Oh, you were being the conductor there. You had your hands up. I thought I was like a stop sign there. Happy birthday. Happy birthday. That was awesome, guys. You know, make his, his day, his week. A huge band. And he says I remind him of Fritzi. He calls me his little Fritzi. I assume that's a compliment. That's not. That's unfortunate. That is not. Oh, yes, I see. Hate to break this. Yeah. Yes. Thank you, though. You did it. You did your job, Deanna. But have, have a great weekend. Thanks for joining us. Let's see. Jacob in Oklahoma. Hi, Jake. What's on your mind today? Hey, Dan. First time caller, long time listener. 1.7 meters, 80 kilograms. Okay. And it's very hard. My muscles at least. Of course. Todd, I don't think you could talk about getting over anything. You just celebrated your five year anniversary with the bagel incident. I don't know if that's really something you should be doing. And you kind of touched on it, but. Micah Parsons, I've seen him a couple of times in person and I've kind of been underwhelmed. It just seems like his effort is kind of hit or miss. I know Jerry should have signed Mike a long time ago, but with 47mil a year, I just, I kind of got to defend Jerry a little bit. I mean, it's not like he was going to win anything going forward. He's probably still not going to. And, and look, Jacob, I, I understand that. I think he got to a point where he was too expensive and there was some, you know, kind of leftover scar tissue. But do it in March if you're going to hold a grudge against him because he didn't agree to that deal. That was a handshake agreement, then trade him. If you're going to do something for the betterment of the franchise, then do it back then. That way you can bring in other teams. Everybody's got their draft picks. Micah Parsons is available who come on down. Who's interested, but thank you for the phone call. We'll take a break. The brisket is gorgeous. I don't know how it tastes, but Dylan just took it off the grill and it has been cooking, I think he said, 16 hours. Brisket meat Friday. We're back after this. Hi, I'm Buzz Knight, the host of the Taking a Walk podcast, and join me for an upcoming episode with Seth MacFarlane, the creator of Family Guy Talk, his new Frank Sinatra music project. Anyone who loves music would salivate over something like this. The biggest question for us was, what's in these boxes? There were a few unplayed gems that we had been alerted to by Charlie Pinion of Sinatra Enterprises. So we knew that certain songs like Shadow of your Smile, which actually is not on this record, it'll be on the next one. Seth McFarland Don Rickles went up to Frank Sinatra and he said, listen, I'm going to be having dinner with this lovely woman and I, you know, would you come over and say Hi. And just so you know, because I feel like if she sees that I know you, it's going to make me look really cool. And, you know, I might have a good night. During the middle of dinner, Frank walks over and says, don, hi, how are you? And Don goes, frank, please, I'm in the middle of dinner. Seth MacFarlane on the taking a Walk podcast. Listen to Taking a walk on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Jay Kofer and this is back 40, a limited series show on Wire to Hunt, part of Meat Eater's Podcast Network. Each episode I'll be asking eight whitetail hunting pros a focused, thought provoking question about hunting and land management. How do I hunt the best part of the farm with less than ideal access? Should you? That's what the real question is. Stand without good access is not a good stand. Listen to Back 40 on iHeartRadio app, Apple podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. Imagine that you're on an airplane and all of a sudden you hear this. Attention passengers. The pilot is having an emergency and we need someone, anyone, to land this plane. Think you could do it? It turns out that nearly 50% of men think that they could land the plane with the help of air traffic control. And they're saying like, okay, pull this until this, pull that, turn this. It's just, I can do my eyes closed. I'm Manny. I'm Noah. This is Devin. And on our new show, no Such Thing, we get to the bottom of questions like these. Join us as we talk to the leading expert on overconfidence. Those who lack expertise lack the expertise they need to recognize that they lack expertise. And then as we try the whole thing out for real. Wait, what? Oh, that's the Runway. I'm looking at this thing. See? Listen to no Such thing on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you you get your podcasts. Football is back. That's right. The new NFL season is here. And you should be listening to NFL Daily as we march along to Super Bowl 60. This is a show for sickos like me. NFL Daily is your kind of show. It's in the name NFL Daily. You'll have fresh content in your feed all season long. Myself, Greg Rosenthal and an all star cast of co hosts will preview and recap every game all season long. Josh Allen, coming off an MVP season. And now lateral to Allen and reaching for the pylon. Are you kidding me? It's a touchdown. Have you ever seen that? One before rookies making a name for themselves. He is bouncing off defenders and dragged down. And of course, the Eagles trying to win another Lombardi. What a game. What a. A season, what a team. Eagles fans savor it and rejoice. Listen to NFL daily on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. This day in sports history as well, Eric in Iowa joins us. Hi, Eric. What's on your mind today? No. 5'8, according to the military, a steady 205. First time, long time. I've been a Cowboys fan my whole life. I'm 50 years old. I followed this circus my whole life. I got. I get to listen to it every day. It's crazy. Did you actually say. You actually said, now they're capable of making a play? They were capable of making a playoff run with Micah. Did you say that? Yes. That's crazy. You've been talking smack about Jerry for a month. Listen, Will McClay has drafted more Pro Bowlers in the last 15 years than anybody else. We dealt with it with Dak and how's it gone for you, Eric? Not very well. Okay, so I can compliment him, but I can also criticize him. Eric, maybe you're too close to this. I'm neutral. I couldn't. If the Cowboys are great, it's great content. If they're not great, it's great content. But I think if you have Dak and CD and you have Micah Parsons, you have a pretty good head start. Is it a tough division? Absolutely. They're over under seven and a half. But trashing Jerry. I'm criticizing Jerry because look at where we ended up, Eric. Look at where we ended up with this situation. Is that trashing him, or was that just being honest? Well, I'm going to miss Micah, but we got to move on, and I'm fine with that. Thank you for the phone call. I'm fine with it. We didn't need all of this production. We didn't need it where it's a big, you know, Broadway show here. We didn't need it. You could have done something and done something earlier, been proactive, and then maybe you're in a better situation. Maybe you get a better trade package here. Maybe you actually sign him because Jerry did want to sign him. Yes, Todd, I was just listening to your. I thought he was way out of line there with her. You were trying to say something complimentary, and he got all out of whack with the Cowboys and Jerry Jones. Yeah, I'm not. I'm just critiquing. This. I'm not going out of my way because, you know, Stephen A. Smith is the one, you know, he has fun with all of this and, you know, making fun of the Cowboys. I'm just telling you, you know, as I see it, if they're great, it's great content. If they're not, it's great content and that's all I care about. Jordan in Wisconsin. Hi, Jordan. What's on your mind? Hey, D.P. hey, bud. Six, two and a hard 230. As all of us here in Wisconsin are jacked for this trade, we couldn't be, could be more happier with what we got. I was wondering if one pie in the face. Bet. What's the bet? Packers are going to be your super bowl champions. Anybody want a piece of Jordan in Wisconsin? He's got the packers winning this Super Super Bowl. Anybody? Old Dylan? Yeah, sure, I think they'll have a good run, but I don't think they're winning. Maybe. Great story. Like, once again, I don't root for or against. I root for a good story, whatever that story is. And speaking of which, Seton o' Connor is in Columbus for the Ohio State Texas game and nobody sets the stage to really. We're going to be able to visualize this. He's going to join us over the phone. He'll create the scene, Seton, of what it's like. So I feel like I'm right there with you. Yeah, I really, I'm going to paint the picture as we say in radio, right? Yeah. I'm going to close my eyes. Okay. Yeah. Well, right now I'm, I'm right outside of the stadium. There's a lot of setup going on. Got game day right over here. Big noon. Kickoff is just behind us. Box. Sports radio is getting set up. There's a lot of atmosphere. Should I say that a dude just went by this crazy car that had like Ohio State written all over it. Blasted music. It's fun. It's fun. It's starting to ramp up this little quiet this morning, but now it's really getting going. Okay. Weather wise, overcast, but it's a marine layer, so that's going to burn off and off the lake. Right off the lake. Yeah. Yeah, it's nice. It's gorgeous. It's. It's beautiful. Tomorrow the weather is supposed to be spectacular. Tailgate tour. Seton's there in Columbus. Fox Sports Radio tailgate tour. You can go to danpatrick.com to follow along. How do the folks find you if they want to find you there in Columbus? Yeah. You go to the tailgate tour is all over social media. You can check that out. But we're right outside of the stadium. You can't miss us. It's a huge tailgate right by like a river watch tower. Paul, you'll be happy to know that where I got coffee this morning, they had already changed their menu over to all fall items. Oh, lovely. I thought of you right away. Yeah. I was like, see, they get it. This place. Get it. Great. Perfect. Yeah, man. Have fun. Good to talk to you. And we look forward to seeing you next week. Yeah. All right, fellas. See you guys. That's a seat. No, Connor, he's on the road and be there representing us. Going to be crazy tomorrow. This day in sports history. Paul, I just got one for you. Let me give you Hank Aaron. First baseball. I know you love Hank Aaron. 1971, Hank Aaron became the first baseball player in the NL to 100 or more runs in each of his first 11 seasons. 1974. Moses Malone, out of high school, signs with Utah. The Utah stars first player to jump to the pros directly out of high school became a hall of famer. All right, let's go around the room. What we learned. First of all, round of applause for Dylan. Nicely done. That brisket is great. 16 hours on the Traeger and the chef IQ. Those meat thermometer. Meat thermometers were great. They pretty much make it foolproof that you can't really screw things up. It's Dylan proof, I think is is what it is, but it is Dylan. Thank you very much. Todd, what'd you learn today? David in Ohio says the Cowboys are America's team. If that's a retirement home living on past glory. Ouch. Dylan, what did you learn today? According to Brady Quinn, Todd may also frequent NFLPA meetings at certain places. Marvin, you gotta get up to get down. Paul. Vince Young didn't want the Heisman. Simply Safe, designed to help stop crime before it starts. Get 50 off your system with professional monitoring, plus your first month free@simply safedan.com. there's no safe like Simply Safe for Fritzi. Dylan Seaton, Marvin, Paulie, the back room guys. And with Seth MacFarlane, the creator of Family Guy, talking about his new Frank Sinatra music project, Anyone who loves music would salivate over something like this. Hour 3: Vince Young Previews the Longhorns’ Season
Hosted by Dan Patrick and the Danettes | Guest: Vince Young
In this episode, Dan Patrick and the Danettes cover the fallout from the blockbuster Micah Parsons trade, the swirling rumors around the Dallas Cowboys’ quarterback situation, and the heightened betting action leading up to the Texas-Ohio State game. The highlight is an insightful and candid interview with Longhorn legend Vince Young, who previews Texas’s season, shares advice for Arch Manning, and revisits unforgettable moments from his own career.
(Starts ~05:00)
“It’s weird to have a compass and you don’t pick a direction. That’s what it feels like... We’re all in. I don’t know what that meant. We’re all in. We’re all in trouble.” — Dan Patrick (17:40)
“If that’s the case and you’re talking about the locker room... why were you trying to sign him in March? What changed?” — Dan Patrick (23:50)
(18:30–20:30)
(Main segment: 49:30–1:03:40)
“He’s ready for it. He’s definitely ready for it... He has that ‘I respect you’ kind of attitude, character. Like it’s about my teammates. He has fun, he’s goofy, he’s silly.” — Vince Young (50:10)
“When you have two uncles and a dad that went through it all... that resonates for you as you get older as a kid. And you can see it in him. I can feel it too.” (51:40)
“A lot of people didn’t think that I was going to finish with that piece of paper... I was the first to graduate and set the tone for my kids as well.” — Vince Young (54:55)
“A lot of people give me credit for that play, but I give a lot of credit to my O-line and Selvin Young for doing everybody doing their job.” (56:40)
“He won it fair and square... He earned it on the field, for sure.” (59:50)
“For him to mentor Bijan right now, I thought that was pretty cool because Bijan wants to get into acting... I should have took advantage of that a long time ago.” (1:01:30)
“Sometimes it belies logic where you’re just going... I really don’t know what he’s talking about. And it feels like Jerry gets in front of the media and he just starts talking.” — Dan Patrick (35:00)
The show maintains its signature blend of sharp sports analysis, inside jokes among the Danettes, and candid, direct interviews with guests. Dan Patrick’s language with Vince Young is warm, informal, and full of mutual respect, while his approach to callers and Cowboys news is playful but incisive.
This episode showcases vintage Dan Patrick Show energy: freewheeling but insightful conversations about the business and emotion of pro football, fan interaction, and an outstanding in-depth interview with Vince Young, who brings humility, humor, and perspective to both his own legacy and the pressures awaiting Texas’s new generation. For college football and NFL fans alike, this is a must-listen—especially for the unfiltered wisdom Vince Young doles out for both players and fans.
