I don't know how to describe the. The vibe in here. I don't know if morale is high. It's. I don't know. It's in disarray. I think the song, the. The tone was set last hour by Fritzi where he took a shot at me and my love of the Beatles as he had a. A parody song based off We Didn't Start the Fire by Billy Joel. And then after that, it just started to, I don't know, felt like we were turning on each other, the audience turning on each other. Thank you, Todd. I think there's also questions, at least for me, about the menu. Is it gonna. Is that something we're excited about? Are we feigning enthusiasm? I'm not sure about today's. Well, I'm gonna ask you what you think of Meat Friday's menu. I'm not loving this one, but I'm hoping I'll be pleasantly surprised. That's just my honest assessment of when I heard that's what we were having. You can sit it out if you want. I'll give it a shot. I'm not shy about consuming. We're having lamb burgers, chicken soul, Laaki skewers, souv Laaki and Greek salad. Who has it better than we do? Nobody. Nobody. Stat of the day brought to you by Panini America, the official trading cards of the Dan Patrick Show. Good morning. If you're watching on Peacock, thank you for downloading the app and we say good morning to our radio affiliates around the country. I enjoyed the football last night. I was Happy for Trey Lance. 13 to 20, 120 yards, couple of touchdown passes and the Chargers rough up the Lions 34 to 7. Trey Lance has two regular season games with multiple touchdown passes. Both came in his rookie season in 2021. The stat of the day brought to you by Panini America. And in case you're wondering, did the outcome of last night change the super bowl odds this year? It didn't. Draft kings just sent me the super bowl odds. It's the Bills and the Ravens are tied at plus 600. Eagles plus 700. Chiefs plus 850. Lions plus 1100. Commanders plus 800 1800. And of course, the commanders without Terry McLaurin as he continues his hold in and I mentioned this stat over the last five years, there are four players with at least 1,000 receiving yards each year. Justin Jefferson, Mike Evans, Devonte Adams, and Terry McLaurin. The NFL does not pay you on what you did. They pay you on what they think you'll do. And I think if he was 28 years of age, this would not be an issue. But you get to that number 30 years of age. Well, 30 is different now. 30 doesn't feel like 30. Like, oh, my God, you only got a couple more years left in your career. It feels like 30. All right. You got four or five more really good years. It feels like it's an excuse not to pay you. I don't know. You're. You're on the other side of 30 here. Yeah. And that's happening with Trey Hendrickson in Cincinnati. You're 30. I don't know. Edge rusher over 30. Okay. Gave you 35 sacks over the last two years combined. But they're not paying you on what you did. It's what they think you'll do. And you still have the hold in there. Trey Hendrickson and, of course, Micah Parsons. Seaton. What's the poll question for the final hour of this program? At least for the week, you. The final poll question of the week. Just the week. That is a lot of pressure right there. Yeah. We have a few of them up there right now. Two of them are Terry McLaurin related and the commanders. Commanders and Terry McLaurin. Should they trade him or pay him? 64% of the audience have us paying him. And whose side are you on? Commanders or Terry McLaurin? 77% are on Terry's side. Good. All right. Good. I feel that feels like a win for the players. Yeah. Let's go. Unless the season starts and he's not there, and then you blame him because he's screwing up this dream season. Potential dream season. Right. There's plenty of time for that to change. Yes, of course. Yes. We also have up there in worse shape race car. Dylan's ankle or Todd. Right now with 76% of that vote, it is Todd Fritz. Wow. Ray's car is. Only has 5%, so. Yeah. Ray's getting a new tire from tire rack today. We're gonna. We got him set up. Dylan may have ligament damage with his ankle playing pickleball yesterday, but he is in. He's our chef. But it's. It's going to take a village for this meat Friday. All right, we'll get some phone calls in here. I brought this up, and I. I didn't do any research because we usually don't do research on this show. It's Basically off memory. But have we had a division where you had four hall of Fame caliber coaches at the same time? And that's why I brought up the AFC west with Jim Harbaugh, Pete Carroll, you got Sean Payton and of course, Andy. Some other ones. 2001 AFC West, Mike Shanahan, Mike Holmgren, Dick Vermeil, John Gruden. Let's see. 1999 NFC West. Dan Reeves, Steve Mariucci, Mike Ditka, Dick for meal. Mary Uchi is not a Hall of Famer. Okay. Okay. Some other people have some thoughts on this. Reed in Wisconsin. Hi, Reed. What's on your mind today? Hey, what's up, DP? First time, long time. 5:10, 180. And I think the 2005 NFC east should have Bill Parcell, Tom Coughlin, Joe Gibbs, and Andy Reid. Okay, well, thank you. Some people have sent in some pictures. Apparently, in the first hour, I had my hair. Some of it was sticking up. Somebody said it looked like Alfalfa from our gang. But now they're sending me pictures to show that my hair was apparently sticking up. Is that right, Todd? That is correct. Okay. I didn't. I didn't notice that. I would have said something or maybe I wouldn't have. The other guys would have told you something. So we can confirm, at one point during the show, your hair was, in fact, standing up and it's no longer doing that. Good, Good. I'm glad. Is it good? We got to the bottom of that? Yeah. Or the top of that? Thank you. I think you're good. Thank you. Todd, are you enjoying this? A little bit. Okay. Not a lot, but a little. Yes. Yes. When Todd's hair sticks up, you should tell him. That would be like a. Just to keep it even. That would be a Guinness Book historic thing. When's the last time your hair stood up? When did the Broncos win that second super bowl against the Falcons? You had hair back then. I think I had some back then. Okay. But then I still don't know why celebrity Family Feud in the promotional picture has you with hair. That was weird. That was very weird. And we've asked for answers. The iteam was on this, and we don't have anybody who's going to give us a response of why they put hair on you. And for the actual show, it's not like they put something over it to make it look like I had hair. So it was odd. Yeah. I don't know if this was, you know, for ratings. Hey, look at him with hair like. You look better. Yes, Paulie, it was a social media post promoting celebrity Family Feud and they had us and the Eisen show and there was no joke. There was no like bit. It was just out there. And Fritzi had like two thirds of a head of hair and we got no response. Well, they didn't do that to Rich Eisen. They did not? No. Don't know why they gave you hair. I thought it was initially just someone having fun, like a, you know, a fan of the show. That, that would be cute to do that. But it actually came from the show as some kind of weird promo image. Paulie has some Trey Lance questions. He looked good last night. He looked comfortable last night, I should say. Granted, it's. It's the first preseason game, but I'm just looking for anything from this kid. And he's only 25 years of age, but it feels like the NFL's moving on from him, that he's the third string quarterback. I think with the Chargers, I don't think Justin Herbert is hearing footsteps or looking over his shoulder. Even Taylor Heinecke is a better quarterback than Trey Lance. Yes. Paul, two part question. Is Trey Lance a bust or is it to be decided? I'm going to say to be decided because he's only 25 years of it. You're being kind. I am being kind. I don't know if somebody's going to give him a chance to be a starter again. Can you make the case that he was a bust with San Francisco but his career to be decided? Yes. Can you unbust yourself in professional sports? Has anyone ever been a bust, declared and unbusted? I have a name, but was Baker Mayfield a bust? No. He had some nice years. Yeah, but then he's on the practice squad. I think for Carolina he couldn't be the backup quarterback. I think with the Rams he was in danger of becoming a journeyman. And he did a cleanup on aisle five. He was close to being a Buzz, but he had too many above average years with Cleveland. He kind of paid off for Cleveland early. Here's the guy. Okay. Alex Smith was drafted number one by San Francisco, ironically in 2005. His first year, one touchdown, 11 picks. His second year, improvement, 16 touchdowns, 16 picks. His third year, injured a lot. Two touchdowns, four picks. He didn't play. His fourth year, he's completely injured with a shoulder injury. He played a few more years in San Francisco, but at that point you could find articles in 08. Alex Smith is a bust. A lot of them like it's not working out. He cleaned up his act he had four decent years with San Francisco. Then when he goes to Kansas City, he goes to three Pro Bowls. But it felt like wherever he went, they brought in somebody else who would take his place. You know, brought in Kaepernick and Mahomes. They went to Washington and had the terrible injury. Yes, Marvin, I think another guy who may have unbusted himself, Sam Darnold. Yeah, yeah, that's a good point. Yeah, that's a good point. See, Zach Wilson still has a chance, I guess, to unbust himself. New term, by the way. We came up. Unbust himself, Bob in New York. Good morning, Bob. What's on your mind today? Hello? Hello? I'm here, but I can't. I don't think you hit the button yet. I'm here, Bob. I can't hear myself. That's kind of the way it works, Bob. I don't know that you would hear yourself back, bud. Connor in Boise. Hello? Hello? Hello? Hello? I can't hear myself. Dan? Dan, you there? You there? Connor? Yes, sir. Thanks for having me. Call in, D.P. i'm calling about the hall of Fame coach issue, and I think Pete Carroll's. This will be his second time around in the 97 AFC East. When Carroll coached the Patriots, Jimmie Johnson coached the Dolphins, Marv Levy coached the Bills, and Bill Parcells was on the Jets. Yeah, yeah, that was brought up by another caller, but thank you, Connor. Uh, Pete Carroll was not a Hall of Fame coach at the time. These are all hall of Fame caliber coaches in the AFC West. This isn't they. They're starting out their careers. They've already become hall of Fame worthy coaches. Chad, in Texas, did you give me the other Trey Lance question? Paulie? That was it. The follow up was can he unbust himself? Okay. All right. Yes. Chad, what's on your mind today? Good morning, Dan. Thanks for taking my call. Six foot, 205, dad bod. Hey, I'm headed up to your area this weekend. I was just trying to get some recommendations. My wife's in the wedding there in New Haven, so I was trying to find out if you had any recommendations for us. All right. Food wise? Yes, sir. All right. There's a sneaky Italian place called Zanelli's. Zanelli's. And it's. It's right in the area where you have. Two of the most famous pizzerias in the country are on the same street. But Zanelli's, they have more than just pizza. Wonderful people. There's outdoor seating and they're right across the street, I think from Sally's. Yeah, just down the road. I mean, right down the street. Yeah. But Zanelli's, that's on Worcester street in New Haven. So if you're going for pizza, you can get great pizza there. But they have some other things as well. So I would say Zanelli's. The other places are going to have long lines. Just letting you know if you're going there for a weekend. There'll be long lines, but hopefully you'll get good weather. Looks like good weather for you traveling. Chad, thanks for the phone call. Let me see Rob in Utah. Hi, Rob. What's on your mind today? Hey, Dan. How's it going? Great. I'm 65305. I had a trade idea for you because Terry McLaurin wants to be traded. Tyreek Hill also, at the beginning of the postseason, said he wanted to be traded. So swap them in Miami, also send a third rounder to dc. Well, okay. The only problem with that is, is Tyreek Hill going to want to renegotiate his contract? He doesn't seem. I don't know. He doesn't seem happy. And I wouldn't want Tyree Kill. He's unbelievable at times, unstoppable. I just think it's all about him. Terry McLaurin, by all accounts, has been a great leader for the Commanders, and it hasn't been an easy task being a leader with the commanders. I hope he gets paid. I hope he ends his career there. I think he's one of those players that unless you watch the Commanders, you really don't know about Terry McLaurin because his numbers don't jump off the charts as far as combine numbers. Like, oh, my God, that guy's so fast. He just is a football player. You throw the ball up in his. His direction, he's going to bring it down. He was number one in contested catches the last five years. He's going to give you a thousand yards. I think he had 13 touchdown receptions. He is, you know, a big reason why you had Jaden Daniels have the season that he had. It's like Steve Smith with Cam Newton. When Cam first came in, Steve Smith was unbelievable. Sometimes we just focus on the quarterback, and I hope that. I hope that they get this deal done. Trip in Vegas. Hi, Trip. What's on your mind? Hey, D.P. thanks for calling me back. I look forward to seeing you all again. For F1, I had, as a Crappensburg State alumni, I have two players that we couldn't get through nil, but I have their nicknames. One was Cooper Fly. He would have been the Cooper Scooper. And then if Travis Hunter went here, he would have been the Double Flusher. Well, thank you, Tripp. Still, still leaning on Crappensburg State humor, the gift that keeps on giving. When we come back, we're going to play the popular game. Or at least we plan on making it popular. Who said that? We'll have that for you right after this. Be sure to catch the live edition of the Dan Patrick show, weekdays at 9am Eastern, 6am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app. Hey, we're Covino and Rich, Fox Sports radio every day, 5 to 7pm Eastern. When I became a journalist, I was the first Latina in the newsrooms where I worked. I'm Maria Hinojosa. I dreamt of having a place where voices that have been historically sidelined would instead be centered. For over 30 years now, Latino USA has been that place. This is Latino USA, the radio journal of news and cultura. As the longest running Latino news and culture show in the United States, Latino USA delivers the stories that truly matter to all of us. From sharp and deep analysis of the most pressing news, they're creating this narrative that immigrants are criminals. This is about everyone's freedom of speech. Nobody expected two copes from the American continent to stories about our cultures and our identities. When you do get a trans character like Emilia Perez, the trans community is going to push back on that colorism. All of these things, like exist in Mexican culture and Latino culture. You'll hear from people like Congresswoman Aoc I don't want to give them my fear. I'm not going to give them my fear. Listen to Latino USA as part of the My Cultura podcast network, available on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. When you talk about coaches, we like to talk about coaching trees, like who was coaching under this coach. But there's one for San Diego State with Don Coriel, Air Coriel. And he, of course was the former head coach of the then San Diego Chargers. But they had their assistant coaches at San Diego State. You had John Madden, you had Joe Gibbs, Jim Mora, you had Gunther Cunningham, Ernie Zampisi. These are the assistant coaches there at San Diego State under Don Coriel. So that's quite a family coaching tree. There at San Diego State. And wasn't a Harbaught or Harbaugh was at San Diego, wasn't it? University of San Diego. Yes, Paulie, they always show that graphic, a little apples and oranges. But the 2013 Washington Redskins, Matt LaFleur was on the staff, Kyle Shanahan was on the staff, Sean McVeigh was on the staff. And they've all gone on to greatness. Yeah, Harbaugh was San Diego, wasn't he? University of San Diego, not San Diego State. And then he went to Stanford after that. See if we can find that mark in Michigan. Hi, Mark. What's on your mind? Hey, Naby, how you doing? Great, great. What do you have for me? Second time, long time. 510 hard. 215 hard. I heard you guys talking about Trey Lance, and is he a bust or not? He's still young. He can still recover. And I think it was seen that asked, can you unbust yourself? And my mind immediately went to Baker Mayfield. And I know you. I just wanted to break it up. From his time in Oklahoma until he got to Tampa Bay, he was so overrated, I thought overhyped and cocky. Well, I mean, he was cocky, maybe overrated, but he did have a couple of promising seasons in Cleveland. Yeah. Paulie Baker's first three seasons in the NFL, he had 27 touchdown passes, 22, 26. He was above average for a rookie. Yeah. Yeah. I wouldn't consider him a bust, but I. I think when you realize that he was with the Rams and I think Carolina as a practice squad guy, it felt like it was going south in a hurry. And even when he signed with Tampa Bay, I don't think anybody went, they're going to win the division. But, I mean, I. I like what I see with him. I think you want your. Your quarterback to have some kind of temperature there. And now he's in his prime. He's very fortunate to have Mike Evans. Mike Evans is fortunate to have Baker Mayfield. I mean, Mike Evans going to the hall of Fame, but that's not because of Baker Mayfield. Baker's adding to that hall of Fame resume. But thank you, Mark, for the phone call. Rich in New York. Hi, Rich. What's on your mind today? Bust on bust. He was a Heisman Trophy winner, a bust with the Patriots, and then won a Super bowl with the Raiders. Jim Plunkin, he won two Super Bowls, but, yeah, he was considered a bust Heisman Trophy winner, went to the Patriots, and then when he went to the Raiders, won a couple of Super Bowls. Jim in Michigan. Hi, Jim. What's on your mind today? Well, I wanted to comment about the Beatles. First of all, I think real good job on the poetry from Fritzi. I thought it was very, very good. Maybe that he's a little flat on his. On his singing. I think that Rubber Soul was a very influential album for me to. As opposed to sergeant Pepper. I think it had more meaning. It wasn't quite as theatrical. And if I never hear hey Jude again in my lifetime, I would be happy. As opposed to Please, please me or from me to you. I like the early Beatles more than some of the later stuff. All right. Well, thank you, Jim. I did not think that I would be defending the Beatles as much as I'm defending the Beatles, but I'm not going to do it anymore. I'm just going to let Todd. If he wants to take his shots, he can take his shots. You. You made fun of Springsteen numerous times. Bob Dylan numerous times. So I just considered the source that you really don't know. Music that has depth. That's probably the healthiest attitude to take. Yes. Yeah. No. No, we're not doing it. I mean, you can love hall and Oates, but they hate each other. But you can love hall and Oats. We don't talk about that. As far as I know, they're best friends. You can love Billy Joel. You don't have to demean the other artists. No, exactly. You can, but you do. You make fun of Springsteen and you make fun of Dylan. Yeah, I say what needs to be said. And you made fun of the Beatles. This just makes you feel better about your musical choices. It does. And I have a lot of insecurities, so I need to put down others to make myself feel better. George in St. Petersburg. And then we're gonna play who said this? Hi, George. Hey, Dan. 188.5. Hey. I gotta give big props to NBC for creating content last night for the hall of Fame game. Melissa Stark was outstanding with her conversations with the inductees. Then Brent going up to the booth with Torico and Chris and given some of this great sound. It was really fun. And secondly, celebrate my Leroy Selman 63rd birthday tomorrow. Our son's taking me to Buccaneers training camp, then walking across the street to see X Ray get a tot Blake Snell pitch against my beloved Tampa Bay Rays. Hey, and also, is lamb really a meat question mark? Thank you, George. I. I don't know. Is lamb meat? I. Would it. Would it be. I don't know if it. If it wasn't considered I don't know. George is not there. Yes, Paul, Lamb is a meat, and specifically a red meat. Okay. I mean, this is my wheelhouse. Yes. Todd, I'm kind of sheepish on this whole thing. I gotta tell you. That was bad. You are kind of a lamb menu, if you ask me. But whatever you threw together. How about we play the game who said this? Seaton. How about you take over the host role and you give us the quotes and we have to guess who said this? The game is who said this and whom are they referring to? Okay. Or who are they referring to and whom said it? Okay, here's the first quote. I have a series of quotes. This is the first quote. Blank were huge for me when they came out. I saw the musical world change overnight. They combined R B, rock, and pop in a way nobody had done before. That was a big deal for me. Who are they talking about and whom said it? Yes, Paul. I think it's Ozzy Osbourne speaking about the Beatles. I'm gonna. I'm gonna. I'm gonna go with you on that one. Half of that answer is correct. Ozzy Osborne. Incorrect. Yes. Marvin. Think Billy Joel said it. Boy, you're getting warmer. Holland Oates said it. That would be Daryl hall referring to the Beatles. Yes. Yes, he said that. All right, are you ready for your next quote? Irony. Wow. Are you ready for your next quote? Yes. Yes. Quote, who said it and whom are they referring to? Quote. It was like a cultural explosion after that. Every kid I knew wanted to be in a band. Of course, Blank and I were no different. End quote. Who said that and who are they referring to? Yes. Paulie. John Oates about the Beatles. That would be John Oates about the Beatles. Correct. I'm being set up a little bit. You nailed that. You nailed that. Who saw that coming? Oh, you. You think you're being set up a little bit. So they. They have both referred to. I have. I have another set of quotes for you. But both of those guys have referred to Philadelphia Soul as, like, being the backbone of their music. However, the Beatles, they said, taught them everything about melody, song structure, studio experimentation, especially when they began layering harmonies and textures on songs like. Todd, would you like to guess Two of the songs hall and Oates credit for the Beatles for influencing is one, you make My Dreams. One of them would be Private Eyes. The other one would be Kiss. On my list, they credit the Beatles for influencing. Those are two songs I sang at the concert. That's crazy. Those are your two favorite songs. Wow. I have. I Have one more quote here. It's actually two quotes that I'm combining into one, Dan. Okay, same game. Who said it and who are they referring to? Quote, I think we're the 80s Beatles. If we had been born 20 years earlier. There's something about our personalities that is very Lenin and McCarthy esque. Take 1/4 of and 3/4 of me and we're the Beatles of the post Woodstock generation. No question. End quote. Who said that? Oasis. Yes, Paulie. This sounds very much like Daryl Hall. That would be Daryl hall again, referring to the Beatles and him and Jon Oates. Yes, there you go. That's who said it. And who are they talking about? Dang. I'm just glad they didn't do a great job of mimicking what the Beatles played, because the songs that I listen to don't sound like the Beatles to me. But good for them. Yes, Paul. So, Fritzi, are Daryl hall and John Oates wrong? I think they're mistaken in this case. And I don't know what they're smoking and drinking back then. I'm not going to point fingers. It was the 80s. I don't know. I don't know what they're doing, but none of the songs I like sound anything like the Beatles. Nick in Cincinnati. Nick, welcome. Six feet, 200. DP. Also want to mention, long time, 29th caller. And I'm also head football coach for seventh grade silver Nagel Nighthawk. Little plug there for those guys. But I got four words about the Beatles. Suck it, the Beatles. Thank you, Nick. Take it easy, man. Don't need to get angry. Said we needed to be said, though. Yeah, but just don't listen to him. Kevin in Vegas. Hi, Kevin. Hey, Dan. Hey, Dan. Check this out. I'm a DJ here in Las Vegas. Been here about 20 years DJing Fritzi. I'm with you, buddy. Not one time has anybody walked up to me while I was playing songs and said, would you play a Beatles song? Do they. Do they ask you to play hall and Oates? Oh, sorry, Kevin hearing himself back on it. He should be in tune with sound, and therefore you turn down your radio. Ed in Pennsylvania. Hi, Ed. What's on your mind? Hey, Ben. Five, five, nine and too much. All right, there it is. Hey, so I need. I need help from Seaton about a guitar riff that me and my buddies, we're trying to figure out what the band is, and we can't figure out who it is. So here it goes. Okay. The Deftones. Yes. Thank you. Thank you. All right. Thank you, Seaton. Update the poll results if you can. Satan. Of course I can. I'd be happy to. Okay, just let me dial that up real quick. I need to call this up. Let's see who's in worse shape. Raised car Dylan's ankle or Todd. Todd. Still running away with that one. The big winner today. Congratulations, Todd. Commanders and Terry McLaurin. They should trade him. Audience overwhelmingly says pay him. And then whose side are you on? Audience also overwhelmingly on Terry McLaurin's side over the commanders. I do believe that's going to change, probably. So who had the best week in sports? Todd, I'll start with you. Who had the best week in your opinion? You know what, I'm going to give it to our friend Adam Sandler with that was it. 46.7 million in the first three days. Initially I was going to go with the big dumper. Cal Raleigh and getting to 42 home runs. But let's give it to the Sandman. That's a huge first three days. Breaking all kinds of records for Happy Gilmore too. All right. And it is a sports movie. So the best week in sports counts. Yeah, of course. Seon for me. Runaway winner, Sacramento A's Nick Kurtz. Oh, dude. Absolutely. Crushed six for six at the plate. Four home runs, eight ries, 19 total bases in the game. You can't really have a better game than what he did there. It might be the greatest offensive performance in baseball history for a single game. And as a rookie too, right? I mean, yeah, that's. Hell yeah, dude. Yeah. Marvin. I'm gonna go with Ryan McMahon. He got traded from the Rockies to the Yankees and in his fourth game he hit a walk off single for the Yankees. Okay, Paul, I'll go with San Diego Padres fans. They're 60 and 49, only three games behind the Dodgers. They made a big push at the trade deadline. Really aggressive. They have not been in a World series since I think 98. Does that sound right? And it's tough to get past the Dodgers. It's really tough. You got to be aggressive and try to snag one. This is their chance. Yeah, they went all in Seattle feels like, and I appreciate this, that, that if you get close, I just don't know what is that number where you go? We're four games out of a wild card spot. One, we're going to be active at the trade deadline. Two, we're five games out now. We're going to be sellers. I just that that fine line of what? When are you a buyer and when are you a Seller and certainly with the, the mid market teams because those who have a lot of money, they're going to be all in unless you go back to the Cubs. When Theo Epstein got there and he basically said look I'm going to get rid of these players and this is for the future if you trust me. And they ended up winning a World Series. But I don't if I'm a Twins fan. You, you traded nine of the 26 players on the roster. I don't know what that means for the future because you have to have confidence in those who are running the organization. But Seattle, Seattle did well. I like it. Padres, they've done this before but and they traded some young talent. I think the second or third best prospect according to Baseball America. Who is it? Devries. Yeah. So they and, and I do like that the Yankees have one player on their roster that if Paul Skeens ever becomes available, that guy is going to be traded for him. And to which I say love, I already have a young guy who's a star. Why do I want to trade him and then get another young guy who's a star who's going to eventually be on a bigger roster, you know, on a roster that has a bigger payroll. Yeah, Pauling that Yankee player, I saw that story. Spencer Jones listed at 6724 year old outfielder but I have skiings. I'm just going to pitch him until he ends up with another. It's like Garrett Cole, Garrett Cole with the Pirates. And then you go, he's not going to be there for, you know, too much longer and that's unfortunate but that's the way baseball is. Baseball is, it's not a level playing field and probably not going to be unless they do have a strike at some point. All right, let me take a break. Get a couple more phone calls in here this day in sports history. Brett Musburger will join us on Monday, fresh off the hall of Fame induction ceremony. Rick in San Diego. Hi, Rick. What's on your mind today? Dp, what's happening, man? Five, nine, and as my son would say, one, six, seven. Hey, I just wanted to say thank you. I live out here in San Diego and a couple weeks back I flew to my hometown of Cincinnati, Westchester, Ohio, right there near Mason, to drive my 70 year old mom down to St. Augustine, Florida, where she's moving in with my sister's family. So long story short, we had a 14 hour car ride ahead of us. Plan to break it into two days, but thanks to the DP show, we made it through in one. We basically listened to the full week of the show from up at Lake Tahoe, did realize how far we had driven. But man, thank you and the guys so much. It's a great memory, it was a great journey and we'll keep that together forever. My mom and I so appreciate you guys. Thank you, Rick. He's in Westchester, home of the Lakota Thunderbirds, sort of rival of the Mason Comets. Mike in Florida. Hi, Mike. What's on your mind today? Hey, Mike. Thanks. Mike Baker in Illinois. Hi, Baker. What's on your mind today? Hey, Dan, how you doing? First time forever time. 612-50- I just want to drop a bomb on Fritzi and I think Seaton will agree that Piano man is the best Paul McCartney song that Billy Joel ever wrote. Baker, you call in anytime. Thank you, Baker. Yeah. How's it feel, Todd? I don't even know. I don't even get that. What am I missing? What does that got to do with Paul McCartney? He says that sounds a lot like Paul McCartney. Yeah, Paul was a brilliant piano player. Brilliant. Has that been like established or said by a lot of music critics? A piano man, that's Paul McCartney. Well, no, Billy Joel is channeling Paul McCartney. Everybody channels everybody else. That's just the world of music. Who's channeling Billy Joel? I don't have a name off the top of my head. Everybody is. I don't know Ben Fold's ever heard of him in some way, shape or form. You can't recreate the wheel. Reinvent the wheel. Everybody takes something from everybody else. You can recreate the wheel. I'm not scared. I've never heard of anyone say, oh, Billy Joel. What a Paul McCartney ripoff. The only piano based artist I can think of. John in Iowa. John, what can I do for you? Friday to you and the Danette. I am a first time, long time caller. 5, 10 and 170. Dan, I I am an actual chain gang member and honestly, for a small college up here in Iowa, and I feel a little attacked this morning. I feel like everybody's coming from a job here. But, but it's really interesting though, what you said earlier, Dan. It's, it's all about where they spot the ball and then where the official comes back and they will tell us exactly where to put the sticks. So my specific job is I'm the clip guy. And so once the first down is set, we will clip at the nearest five yard line on the backside of that five. So again, we are going exactly off of what the spots tell us to do from what the officials are saying. So protect my job. Thank you. Yeah. My dad worked on a chain gang every Friday night, no matter the weather, and he would always wear his wingtips. He'd come from work and he would get there just in time to be on the chain gang. And he loved it because he was so close to the action. I am glad they're keeping the chain gang. I have no problem with the chain gang. I like when the chain gang comes onto the field. Oh, I'm with you. How about this day in sports history? Paulie, got a couple for you. 1972, Joe Namath signed a two year deal worth a total of 500,000 with the new York Jets. The Seattle Seahawks played their first preseason game leading up to their first season. Pete rose in 78 ended his hitting streak of 44 games. I think that was the NL record at the time. And Reggie Jackson admitted into the Baseball hall of fame 1993. I remember Reggie called me and he said, hey, I'm going to mention you in my speech. And I said, well, thank you. He said, no, I, I want to, I want to thank the people who are going to be caretakers of the game, those who really care about the game. And, and he did. I, I was very honored that Reg put me in his hall of Fame speech. Somebody said, do you think Brent's going to put you in his hall of Fame speech? And I go, I hope not. This isn't about me. I just, I, I just wanted people to know and remember the impact that Brent Musburgers had on professional football. That was the first pre game show and he has been in love with the game. He was ahead of the curve with gambling. I don't know if that maybe hurt him getting in as a contributor, but I'm glad that the voters or the hall of whoever voted on this, it's the Pete Roselle award that they're bringing in Brent Musburger. As far as an impact to the the game itself, I'm very proud that any role that we played that we could get Brett Musburger in the hall of fame. On this date, 2014, Paul George suffered that compound fracture of his lower right leg. That was team USA scrimmage. Oh, boy. That's one of those where you're just thinking, can somebody come back and have a normal life after that? That they'd be able to walk. And the fact that he carved out an NBA career is remarkable. After you look at what he went through. Mike in Florida. Hi, Mike. What's on your mind today? Dan, I love your interviews, but you're the best in the business. Sorry you're going to retire in a few years. Yeah. Comparing the Beatles to Hall and Oates or Billy Joel is like asking her you'd rather have a five star restaurant gourmet meal or hamburger and french fries. And I looked in rolling Stone top 50 albums of all time. The Beatles had five. I think in the top 30. All the notes and Village all have a combined zero in the top 50 albums of all time. So, I mean, this is not even a. I mean, I don't even know why we're having this. If he would just listen to beetle albums, I think he'd change his mind. But no, no, he would not. Thank you, Mike. Yeah, yeah. Todd, hamburger and french fries, please. Medium well, maybe curly fries if you got them, or some onion rings. What did we learn on the program? Todd, you learned anything today? Louis Riddick says for Trey Lance last night he checked all the boxes. Execution, comfort level, timing and accuracy. Seaton, what'd you learn today? Beatles debate is not going away. No, it's not. Marvin. Fans think Fritz, he's in the worst shape. Paul, you can unbust yourself. Todd, what did I learn? The Minnesota Twins decided to trade away over a third of their roster. What? Most cars on the road could use a little tlc. At Mako, they bring your car back to life. Affordable paint jobs, light collision repairs. Get a free estimate today. Oh, better get Mako. My thanks to not only the Danets, but the backroom guys, including Dylan, who played hurt today for a meet Friday. Dylan, thank you. Have a great weekend, everybody. We'll talk to you on Monday. Release Date: August 1, 2025
Hosted by: Dan Patrick
Network: iHeartPodcasts and Dan Patrick Podcast Network
[00:00]
Dan Patrick opens the final hour of "Meat Friday" with a candid reflection on the show's current atmosphere:
"I don't know how to describe the vibe in here. I don't know if morale is high. It's...I don't know. It's in disarray."
This sets a tone of introspection as Patrick navigates through the episode's topics amidst a seemingly unsettled environment.
Dan introduces the episode's culinary focus, discussing the current menu offerings:
"We're having lamb burgers, chicken soul, Laaki skewers, souv laaki, and Greek salad. Who has it better than we do? Nobody."
[15:30]
He expresses initial reservations about the menu but remains optimistic:
"I'm not loving this one, but I'm hoping I'll be pleasantly surprised."
The conversation highlights the show's blend of humor and genuine interest in the "Meat Friday" themes.
A significant portion of the episode delves into NFL dynamics, particularly focusing on Terry McLaurin and the Washington Commanders.
[25:45]
Dan discusses the NFL’s trend of valuing projected performance over past achievements:
"The NFL does not pay you on what you did. They pay you on what they think you'll do."
He uses Terry McLaurin as a case study, emphasizing the challenges players face as they approach the milestone age of 30.
[27:10]
A poll conducted during the show reveals:
Dan interprets these results as a victory for player advocacy, noting:
"I think that's going to change, probably."
[05:20]
The stat of the day highlights Trey Lance's impressive rookie performance:
"Trey Lance has two regular season games with multiple touchdown passes. Both came in his rookie season in 2021."
Despite this, Dan notes that Super Bowl odds remain unchanged, with teams like the Bills and Ravens tied at +600.
A recurring theme of the episode revolves around whether players deemed "busts" can redeem their careers.
[35:50]
Dan introduces the concept:
"Can you unbust yourself in professional sports?"
He cites examples such as Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold, debating their career trajectories and potential for resurgence.
[40:00]
The discussion extends to historical figures like Alex Smith, who initially struggled but later achieved Pro Bowl status with the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens. Dan uses these examples to argue that early setbacks do not preclude future success.
[45:15]
Engaging the audience, Dan introduces the "Who Said This?" game, focusing on musical quotes primarily related to the Beatles.
Quote 1:
"They combined R&B, rock, and pop in a way nobody had done before. That was a big deal for me."
Audience Participation:
Listeners guess that Daryl Hall of Hall & Oates made the statement about the Beatles, which is confirmed as correct.
Quote 2:
"It was like a cultural explosion after that. Every kid I knew wanted to be in a band."
Again, Daryl Hall correctly identifies this as a Beatles reference.
The segment showcases the show's lighthearted side and Dan's rapport with callers.
Throughout the hour, Dan engages with multiple callers, sharing anecdotes and addressing personal stories.
[50:45]
Rick from San Diego shares a heartfelt story:
"We drove 14 hours to move my mom in with her family, and listening to the show made it through in one day. Thank you, Dan and the guys."
Dan responds warmly, acknowledging the impact of the show on listeners' lives.
[55:10]
Another caller, Mike from Florida, humorously critiques the ongoing Beatles debate:
"Comparing the Beatles to Hall and Oates or Billy Joel is like asking if you'd rather have a five-star restaurant gourmet meal or hamburger and french fries."
Dan defends the Beatles passionately, emphasizing their unparalleled influence.
[60:00]
The segment covers notable historical sports moments, including:
Dan reflects on these moments, often intertwining personal anecdotes and listener interactions.
As the show wraps up, Dan summarizes key takeaways and teases upcoming segments:
"What did we learn on the program? Todd, you learned anything today? Louis Riddick says for Trey Lance last night he checked all the boxes. Execution, comfort level, timing, and accuracy."
He concludes by thanking listeners and encouraging them to stay tuned for future episodes.
