I could do that. I've already, I've already blamed my wife because she brought it home from her school so I got it from her and then I guess I, I forwarded it.

Yeah. Those damn kids. Yeah.

Yeah, it's like a big petri dish when you go like daycare. I remember my wife was like just, they're going to catch everything. Just go get it and you know, then we'll figure it out after that. You're trying to troubleshoot when you're sending your kid to daycare. They're like five years old things they come home with and you're like hun, why don't you take care of this? Yes.

[Paulie]

Paulie, two things. You and Fritzi sound like a couple of guys who just got back from three days in vaccine. Big like roughed up a little bit. Do you guys have that family go to anything for bad throat, bad cold that beyond rest and fluids. Is there like a family recipe or anything?

[Dan Patrick]

No. In fact, I didn't even know I was leaving the house. I go and said to my wife, what am I supposed to be getting? She goes, mucinex and, you know, Dayquil and Alka Seltzer or something. And I was like, okay, so I'm loading up my shopping cart there this morning, bringing, bringing in supplies. It's going to be great being on a plane for five hours. I feel sorry for the person sitting next to me, unless that person was you, Todd.

[Dr. Jesse Mills]

But you're not sitting next to me. All right, Dylan. Dylan in for Seaton poll question for the final hour of the program.

All right, Dan. Well, we got a couple options. Here's one. Should Dan stay in Vegas Friday night and go to the Pitbull concert? Obviously, Dale. Or no, lame.

[Dan Patrick]

Okay.

[Dylan]

Jamar Chase's one game suspension and forfeiture of roughly 500k is fair, soft, or too hard.

[Dan Patrick]

By the way, when the NFL wants a story to go away, they act swiftly. They swooped in on Jamar Chase. It's like here, you're suspended for a game. We're going to find you. It's going to cost you about $600,000. Let's move on. Now, Jamar Chase said, I didn't spit on him. I never opened my mouth towards that man. And then all of a sudden the NFL probably said, here's the video. Now, he did appeal, but I don't know what you appeal in a situation like that. Is that where you said, hey, you know, I have a speech impediment. Hey, I got Invisalign and, you know, sometimes I spit, you know.

[Paulie]

Yes, Paul, couple things. The suspension will cost Chase his weekly paycheck of 448,000, plus his active game bonus of 58,000. So he's at the like 520 grand mark for spitting. The other thing is, he does have an appeal. It will be heard by Derek Brooks, Ramon Foster, or Jordy Nelson. The committee of the NFL Players Association. Now, the problem is these are the same three people who gave him the punishment. So he's appealing to the people who punished him in the first place.

[Dan Patrick]

Oh, so they. Not the commissioner. The.

[Paulie]

Well, Derek Brooks kind of runs the disciplinary.

[Dan Patrick]

Okay, okay.

[Paulie]

But the problem is, shouldn't you have.

[Dan Patrick]

Somebody hear the appeal who didn't hand out the punishment in, in the first place?

[Paulie]

In most cases of life, there's a neutral party. The NFL doesn't do it that way. But don't you think if you gave Jamar Chase a do over, he can't do over the spitting. But the interview after, if he would have been contrite, yeah, he may have avoided the game.

[Dan Patrick]

Well, he was betting that there was no video. That's what he was betting on. And that was really his only out. That was his lifeline, is, I hope they don't have video of this. And then all of a sudden there was video. And then all of a sudden you go, busted.

[Paulie]

Yeah, Paulie, you know, I know Jamar Chase has a lot of money. People on social media are like, he makes $40 million a year. He's not going to miss 500,000. Even when you're really, really rich, losing money for a really dumb reason has to get under your skin, you know, like, you know, let's say you had a 10 million dollar house and you flooded your basement because of something you did and it cost you 20 grand. You could afford it, but man, it's dumb.

[Dan Patrick]

The Raiders are now 2 and 8. Dallas improves to 4 or 5 and 1. And their next three games will decide their season if they're going to be in playoff contention. Because they got the Eagles coming up. And that's why I thought this was a tricky game. This was a trap game. When you're playing the Raiders are just that bad that even though it was a trap game, it didn't matter. George Pickens was wonderful, but if you beat the Eagles now, all of a sudden all you got to do is win your division. You win the division, you know, your record doesn't have to be great, you just have to be a little better. I just wonder if that tie against the packers comes back to haunt them, or maybe it helps them. But you lose to the Cardinals, you lose to Carolina. Like, they've had some games where you go, gosh, you lost to the Bears. These are the kind of games where you look back on it and you go, that's going to cost me. And it feels like any of these teams that just missed the postseason, there's always that one game where you can circle it and go, that was it. Like the Bengals losing last year to New England. And I remember saying, how did they get out of the gate so slowly? And this is the game that can cost them making the playoffs there. So Jamar Chase, suspended. Suspended quickly. Michael Pennock's junior iii done for the season. We were talking about hot messes, and Paulie put the Saints in there. And I don't think they're a hot mess. They're just, they're not good. And there's nothing interesting except for their Uniforms and maybe Tyler Shock. Maybe. But, you know, the jets are a mess and the Cardinals are a mess. Titans feel messy. Ish. Who else did we. Vegas feels messy. Like you're still relevant, but you're relevant in a bad way.

[Dylan]

Yes, Dylan, we had the jets on there too.

Yeah, jets are messy.

They're leading the messy poll.

Oh, they are? Yeah. Okay. They're. They're Lionel Messi.

Thank you. But Michael Panicks, another knee surgery and you got the Kirk cousin situation. Boy, that do you fire the coach. You do have some talent there. Because then they beat Buffalo. Yeah, but then didn't they lose 30 to nothing? They lost to the Panthers, 30 to nothing, right?

[Dr. Jesse Mills]

Correct.

[Dan Patrick]

Yes, Dylan.

[Dylan]

They also feel like they're the biggest mess with the most talent on the team. Like they should. They're least deserving of being in the messy pool.

[Dan Patrick]

But that makes it messier. Messier. Because you do have talent. Yeah, but. But you're, you're also. You're relevant because you're bad with this talent and you should be a lot better. Yeah.

[Paulie]

Paul, is there any upside for the Falcons that they have Michael Penix still on a rookie deal and Kirk Cousins still on the roster possibly for next year? They're paying Kirk Cousins anyway. They may give him another chance to. You never know.

[Dan Patrick]

Well, he gets a chance here for the next, whatever, six games, seven games.

[Paulie]

But they're no way out on either of their quarterbacks for the next two years.

[Dan Patrick]

Yeah, I just didn't understand the logic. Like you spent all that money on Kirk if you knew that you were going to take a quarterback or you're going to take that quarterback. Because I think the Raiders were interested in Michael Penix. But if you're getting Kirk Cousins and then all of a sudden you go, but if that quarterback's available, we're going to take him. I just didn't understand the timing of that. If Cousins has one more year left or even two years, you could take Michael Penix. But as much as I admired Michael Penix, his toughness at Indiana, and then when he went to Washington, I didn't look at him and go, gotta have him. I mean, I don't know. Just like JJ McCarthy. Same way I'm like, okay, yeah, these other quarterbacks, that's the guy you want. Okay. And I kept saying, what did I miss at Michigan? Because Jim likes to run the ball. And it didn't a. He didn't ask J.J. mcCarthy to win games. Now maybe he didn't need to, but you would think if, if you're going to be that good. And he was really good in the playoffs. But I, I, I kept, I was waiting for something and maybe it wasn't fair to him, but you know, now he's been banged up a little bit. He didn't play that great this past weekend. He did in the fourth quarter. Well, he had what, two drives then. He was really good. But you know, he hurt the team in the first three quarters. Jordan Addison, you know, had a couple of great plays to bail him out. But you know, there's just certain quarterbacks where you go, okay, I'm being told this now keep, you know, they keep reminding you this guy's good, this guy's, hey, this guy's, you know, it's, you know, like Trevor Lawrence. I still don't know. But I should know by now, and I should know by now with Justin Herbert, where you go, man, that guy. Now granted that offensive line with the Chargers, which, you know, Jim tried to build up in the off season has been decimated. So it's a tricky position where you're trying to figure these guys out. Like Caleb Williams, I still like his upside. Give him a little bit of line play there, let him be a little quicker, make decisions and I think he can be a great, you know, a franchise quarterback. Jaden Daniels, people jumped off that bandwagon quickly because he got injured and like Drake Bay, I'd take him. Okay. Jaden Daniels, the, the biggest knock that I have on him is stay healthy. That's it. It's like Victor Wembanyama is going to be out for a couple of weeks, got a calf strain. That's what worries me. Had the blood clot. Now, calf strain, that's where it, you know, somebody doesn't ascend to the level that they should, it's these injuries. Now granted the blood clot, serious, but the calf injury and you're like, okay, he's out at least a couple of weeks here. Yeah.

[Paulie]

Paulie, going back to the quarterback position. You know who's in a really interesting, good place at the quarterback position? The LA Rams. Matthew Stafford playing great. He's got one more year on his contract and it's relatively team friendly and they're getting the best of his last few years. But they've got two first round draft picks this Year, they've got the Atlanta draft pick that right now is 8. That's way better than they thought it'd be. And then they have their own draft pick. They're the kind of team that could take use one of those on the best quarterback available and let him sit one year behind Matthew Stafford for that transition process.

[Dan Patrick]

Yeah, but you got to find your quarterback. It's not a quarterback. It's your quarterback. The quarterback. Too many teams in NFL history have taken a quarterback. Like we got to take a quarterback and you got to get the right quarterback. And if it's not then, then you pass that guy up, you get somebody else who is. Makes sense for you right now. The NFL is about now. I know we love to build for the future. And we got draft picks and we got these guys under rookie contract. Okay. Atlanta has that. It doesn't mean it's going to even the Cleveland Browns. Hey, we're going to have, you know, a couple of first round draft picks and. Okay, what do you do with those? And can they be stars? Yes, Dylan.

[Dylan]

I feel like the teams that draft well are usually the ones who go and take who they think is the best player off the board as opposed to trying to shoehorn something in. Like the Ravens have always done a good job of that where they just go, this is the best player. We're taking him. Look at lineman first.

[Dan Patrick]

I would always look at lineman, defense, offensive lineman, always. Now, if I can get a cornerback, that I think is great. That's another position. There's always a lot of wide receivers. There's always a lot of running backs. And there's always questions about our, you know, these quarterbacks. Every year, same thing over and over. And when the season started, it was like, oh, my gosh, look at this. You could have six or seven quarterbacks taken in the first round. Now how many are you going to have? Yeah, Dale.

[Dylan]

The wide receivers to me have gotten closer to the running back spot where I feel like it's been devalued as a higher end pick. Like, there's tons of receivers in the league that are not at the top of the draft these days and then they end up getting paid 3x what running backs are.

[Dan Patrick]

Yeah. Does feel like you, you know when you say, oh, who's their running back? And then you go, Rico Dowdle. You're like, oh, okay. Yes, Marvin.

[Dr. Jesse Mills]

It's easier to find little fast guys than it is to find big fast guys.

[Paulie]

Boom.

Churchill said that, like Jaylen Carter. There's not a lot of those running around here?

[Dan Patrick]

No, there's not.

But Dowdell, I could probably find somebody comparable to that.

I think a lot of Zach Edie, his second game back, Jaren Jackson, last year's defensive player of the year for Memphis, I think for San Antonio, dear and Fox, I think he was the clutch player of the year a couple years. Look, I'm trying everything here. We're gonna throw everything and see what sticks. Theodore.

[Dan Patrick]

See, this is what I worry about with wembanyama. You know, your big man always has, you know, could be feet and knees. You had the blood clot, now you have, it's a calf strain. I understand it. But I mean, that's the only thing. Injury is the only thing that are going to prevent him from being one of the all time greats in my opinion. But is usage like can you prevent these things with a big man?

[Dr. Jesse Mills]

No. I mean, look at John Moran. He's what, barely six feet? And he has the same issue that Wimby has, you know, a calf strain, a calf issues. And I think just looking at the history over the last year, year and a half with Damian Lillard, Tyrese Halliburton, Jason Tatum, I think any type of calf related issue, tightness, soreness, stiffness, you will see NBA players played on the, on the cautious side. And you know, I, I think most training staff now are saying, hey, do you want to miss two weeks or potentially miss 12 months. And I think all these players are going to side on the, on the side air on the side of caution here with these calf issues. But I mean, if you can go down the list of John Morant's issues over the last two years and with Wimpy, I mean these are two guys that really are so unique at their position and with jaw, some of the electrifying moves. But he does hit the floor a lot. And we kind of highlighted this with Dwyane Wade back in the day. What was that commercial? Hit the floor, get up six times at the floor seven times or whatever that commercial was. I mean, these guys do such electrifying things on the court. And Wimby's, I mean, we've never seen that, that spin move that he did against Draymond Green, that out of balance play, I don't think I've ever seen that before. And so you're going to have these things crop up. It's just part of the nature. You just hope it's not a lingering thing because calf issues can linger a little bit and you hope this is not a reoccurring injury.

[Dan Patrick]

It looked AI when Steph Curry hits that three pointer over Victor. I don't even know how do you practice something like that of shooting over somebody who their wingspan is probably, you know, close to 10ft. And Steph with a fade away 3. Used to be when, when teams would play Lu Alcindor in college, they'd have somebody stand on a chair and hold a broom just to give you an idea of what it was like. I don't know how you can simulate playing against somebody like that and shooting jumpers over them.

[Dr. Jesse Mills]

You can't. And I think in Steph's case, I think he reverts back to muscle memory because he's not entirely focused on Wimby. I think he's more. Are my shoulders aligned? Am I straight distance? Yeah. He sees the defender in front of him and oh my God, it's, you know, a 12 foot alien. But I, I think he reverted, excuse me, back to the Olympics. I, I think he made a shot like that to win gold medal for us over Wimby. So there is a history there between those two on those switches on those high screening roles. And so far Steph is 2 for 2 in those big time moments versus Wimby. But yeah, you're shooting over, over a statue and I think he reverts back to his muscle memory.

[Dan Patrick]

We saw the Jamar Chase situation with Jalen Ramsey spitting In his face. Does that happen in the NBA?

[Dr. Jesse Mills]

Look, as much trash talk as and face to face, I. I'm not saying he didn't do it on purpose, but in the heat of moment, yeah. I mean, it happens. Look, there's no excuse for that. And if it was a purpose, spit on Jamar Case. He's lucky he only got one game because it's just. There's no call for it. You can't do that in. In any sport.

[Dan Patrick]

But yeah, it happens in the NBA.

[Dr. Jesse Mills]

I don't know about necessarily purposely spitting on someone, but when you are nose to nose and you're talking trash, things fly out. It flies out. So I don't know if you're purposely doing that, but yeah, things happen.

[Dan Patrick]

Somebody accidentally, maybe with their lisp, they spit in your face or something, or they have braces invisalign or something.

[Dr. Jesse Mills]

There's a line. People trying to talk through their mouthpieces. Those are a little bit uncomfortable. And Smith comes out. Yes. Loogie comes out.

[Dan Patrick]

I was worried. Draymond Green talking to a fan. Okay, Nothing happened. But why is Draymond Green getting chippy with a Pelican fan?

[Dr. Jesse Mills]

First of all, I'm gonna give. As much as I love Draymond Green, I do love him. That was some elite trolling by that fan. No cursing. He did his homework. And if you look at the stat line, all he was doing was referring to Draymond Green as Angel Reese. All he was saying was Angel Reese, the numbers. You're not scoring, but you are racking up the rebounds. That's kind of funny. So I don't understand the sensitivity side of Draymond. That's something he would do because he's an elite troll himself. I kind of give the fan. I'm taking the fans point of view because there was. He didn't cross the line in my point.

[Dan Patrick]

I know you would think that Draymond Green would have a sense of humor with something like that.

[Dr. Jesse Mills]

He should have had a sense of humor on this one, because that's is kind of funny.

If I could give you John Moran's future or Zion Williams future. Oh.

And I got to pick one of these guys. Both are injury prone. I don't know what you do going forward with both of these guys.

Can you build around either one of them?

[Dr. Jesse Mills]

No, in my opinion, you can't because I don't know the availability of both. Certainly in Zion's case, I. I can't trust if I'm a general manager. If I'm. I don't Know if I can trust these two, as electrifying as both are, both put people in the seats and they are a higher light reel in the making. But they're also one play away from being out three to four weeks or even a season. I cannot trust that. But having said all that, if I can get them to April, May and possibly June, I like my chances too.

Steph Curry is a free agent. A shoe free agent here. Looks like the Jordan brand is going to scoop him up. Did you ever wear a bad shoe, like a shoe that was uncomfortable but you had an endorsement deal?

[Dr. Jesse Mills]

No, when I first came into the league. Do you Remember the shoe SpotBuilds? Yeah, I was with SpotBuilds my first two years and they were one of the most comfortable shoes. And then I jumped over to Nike and I was with Nike the rest of my career. Especially for basketball players, if you're wearing an uncomfortable shoe, you're going to have foot problems for the rest of your career.

So it doesn't matter the model or the name brand. You've got to make sure your jimmies are comfortable because if not, you're going to have ankle injuries, plantar fasciitis, which I was with Nike most of my career and I have plantar fasciitis. So it doesn't matter if you're Adidas, Nike, Puma or whatever, you've got to find comfortable shoes. And it doesn't matter because plantar fasciitis or you rolling your ankle, it doesn't matter the brand. It's going to happen.

[Dan Patrick]

Could you have worn Air Jordan if you wanted to?

[Dr. Jesse Mills]

I did. Later in my career, my last two or three years. I wasn't technically a Jordan athlete because MJ never endorsed me technically. A lot of times I was wearing them, especially when he was at his height. I wore Jordans just to piss him off because no one was supposed to be wearing Jordan brands other than Michael Jordan or his teammates, like Ron Harper or Pimp at times. So other players weren't supposed to technically wear Jordans, but I would wear them just so he. Only when I played him, just to take him off.

[Dan Patrick]

Wait, the only time you wore Air Jordans was when you.

[Dr. Jesse Mills]

Well, I mean, I wore him at other games after, like once he went to the Wizards. That's when I was more of a Jordan brand type player. But when he was with the Bulls, you weren't supposed to really wear them, but I did occasionally wear them just to rub him a little bit the wrong way.

How about I believe it's ten in a row now for the Detroit Pistons leading the Central Division and just reading everything, listening to the postseason comments. They were, they were embarrassed and highly upset in that New York Knicks series last year. They felt that they left two or three games on the table and I wanted to see how they would respond. What, how would that summer go? Are you going to use that as motivating fuel and come back bigger, stronger, faster? They got off to a slow start. Now they reeled off 10 straight. Very good feel good, feel good story. I think the whole Luca questioning his character, his fitness. He goes over to Euro Basket, he plays great, he gets in shape. No LeBron James to start the season and the lakers are what, 9 and 4? 10, 4. That's a feel good story. Now you've got arguably the best player of his generation coming back within the next week or two. I can't believe, you know, all eyes are always on the Lakers, but they are, they're somewhat of a feel good story. Luke is out for a little bit. Austin Reeves is like Jerry west and Pete Maravich all wrapped into the one for a few games. That's a feel good story.

[Dan Patrick]

But I wonder when LeBron comes back and here he is at the tail end of his career. It's Lucas team, Austin Reeves, DeAndre8 like it feels like there's been a little bit of a rhythm now LeBron comes back. Is it up to LeBron to react to the current team or the current team to react to LeBron coming back?

[Dr. Jesse Mills]

I believe it's up to LeBron. And you don't play in this league for 22 plus years like LeBron has done and not be able to adapt. And he's been over on the sidelines since the beginning of the season. He understands what they need and when to interject and you know, be LeBron. But he also knows when he, he doesn't have the same skill set even though at his age he was a second team all NBA player just a year ago. I think he will fit in where he needs to and I think it's up to him to fit in as opposed to these guys changing their games. But I mean think about that. You're getting an all NBA player back if you're JJ Redick, the Lakers.

[Dan Patrick]

Like where this is headed.

I had a caller, I don't know if it was yesterday or the day before, and say, is Steph Curry a top 10 player of all time? And we've discussed this. It feels like we put 15 players into the top 10. Whenever we have these lists, we don't take players out because we know LeBron is going in. Is KD and Steph going into the top 10? All time. Modern basketball, in your opinion.

[Dr. Jesse Mills]

Now, you can make a case for both of them because they're both outliers and they both have changed the game. Obviously, Steph in his shooting, we have never seen that before on this stage. Just like we never saw a guy walk on air like Air Jordan. We never saw a 6, 9 point guard like Magic Johnson on KD's point. I mean, he's 7 foot, even though he won't claim that. And to be able to shoot and.

Are they top 10? I would probably put Steph in the top 10 before KD.

But who do you take out of your top 10, man?

There aren't many jobs that are higher than lsu. If, if you're going to cheat on lsu, you know, a Virginia Tech job, you could cheat because you could get a job, maybe Clemson or something like that. Just throwing out examples. But you know, most of these schools, like at Notre Dame, is Marcus Freeman going to be looking at Penn State or throw out? Is there another marquee job, Ohio State, that would be better than Notre Dame? And I would say no. But Brian Kelly went to lsu. Yes.

Marvin, why do we keep throwing the word loyalty around? Loyalty around? They're running a business. This is business. This isn't about being loyal. Because when you don't Do? Well, they fire you. You signed a contract, they don't keep you. So I don't know what the loyalty thing is about.

I was calling about the Jamar Chase incident and the spitting incident. I think it's, I think sportsmanship should have been taught back in peewee league, you know, so this is something that these guys these days, it's like, okay, yeah, I mean you're, since the day you were seven years old and you were athletic, but now it's like, okay, be a sportsman, have good sportsmanship at the end of the day is what makes us all love sports. And to Reggie's Miller argument with the top 10 of the all time basketball greats, I'd say we have to consider the implementation of the three point line.

Yeah, it's, it's tricky when you start arguing. It's like when you're going to argue about modern day quarterbacks as opposed to those who played in the 60s, in the 70s. It's just different game, you know, a running back back then to a running back now. Those running backs, you know, put up big, big yards, but the game was different. Yeah, Paulie, right.

You're the argument could be who's the greatest player and who has the greatest resume. Those are two different things because like in my lifetime, Larry Bird is in my top two, but his resume is not top two, even though he won a lot, because it is not as long as others.

Yeah, I, you know, we get into these arguments, and there's no, you know, way to win an argument. You know, it just feels like everybody's got an opinion. But, yeah, I love Akeem Olajuwon, and so much so that I told Patrick Ewing to his face that I liked Akeem lajuan more than I did Patrick Ewing. But Steph Curry's had a bigger impact. Steph Curry's the greatest shooter of all time and you got four titles. You could put him in there ahead of Tim Duncan. I mean, he changed a sport worldwide. So if I look at impact, you're the greatest. Shoot, there's no arguing. Nobody argues. He's the greatest shooter of all time. I mean, he's got to be in the top 10. That's what we learned.
