I'm Ian Pfaff, the creator and host of the Uncle Chris Podcast. So what happened to Chappaquiddick?

Well, it really depends on who you talk to.

You are listening to the Dan Patrick show on Fox Sports Radio. It's our one on this Tuesday. Dan and the Danettes, Dan Patrick show our starting lineup. The minister of humor, Fritzi Seaton. Marv Paulie. Yours truly did receive a letter from, I guess a fan who said 40 minutes of berating Todd on a certain day. And you wonder why you don't win a sports emmy. Well, if that's the case, then we're never going to win a sports Emmy, Todd. It's just not in the cards. Yeah, I know, I know. One of these days, though. One of these days it just. It all comes to an end and then you're going to miss that. You're going to miss me talking to you. Be right. I don't think I berate you. No. But I'll be a lost soul wandering the street waiting for random people to start up with me or something. I don't know. I don't know what the word is or the words are to describe our relationship. I like we poke. Yeah. We prod. We have fun. I call it love. It's playful. I call it a relationship. Yes, Seaton, the definition of berate is to scold or criticize someone angrily. Yeah, I don't I'm not angry at you. No, you do it with a smile. Yes. Yeah. Yeah. But if I don't talk to you, then who does? Todd? That's a good point. I really have no friends. We all know that you have no friends. Stat of the Day brought to you by Panini America, the official trading cards of the Dan Patrick Show. Good morning. If you're watching on Peacock, if you would like to watch me berate Todd, you can download the app. And we say good morning to our radio affiliates around the country. IHeartRadio, Fox Sports Radio and the first hour brought to you by McGuire's the new hybrid ceramic wash and wax. It's a bucket or foam cannon. It's great. You have the extreme water beating technology. The next time you wash your car truck, think McGuire's reflect your passion. Play of the day, pull questions. Stat of the day. All of that forthcoming 8773 DP show operator Tyler sitting by. He'll take your phone calls. The press conference yesterday with Deion Sanders, it was not football related and I'd given you a heads up that this was going to be a medical update. And there were wide ranging reports, speculation on Deion Sanders future as a head coach being able to actually walk the sidelines. And we know that he had a couple of toes amputated. There were a blood clot. That was a couple of years ago, but this was something different. This was bladder cancer. And those close to him, at least one person that I spoke to yesterday said that, that he, he was, he wasn't prime. He wasn't Coach Prime. He was Dion and obviously very concerned about this. So it took on a whole different tone behind the scenes from what I was told yesterday of this is, this is about living, this is about quality of life. And I don't think we understood the severity. And he was being private with this, but he was also sharing this with some of his close friends because prime has confidence. Prime walks in the room and you know, he's there. This was different. And he was asked yesterday about this cancer and coming back from it, being able to coach, I always knew I was going to coach again. I never didn't realize I was going to coach again. I was always going to coach. It was never in my spirit, in my heart that God wouldn't allow me to coach again. That's never thought like that. Yeah, I was told that privately though, he did wonder if he was going to be able to do that. Could he walk the sidelines? Would he be in a press box? So you Know, the mortality this one of the great athletes of our generation. And then all of a sudden you look at him, he's lost a couple of toes, had a blood clot, bladder cancer. We're all mortal. I think it hit me really, really hard years ago, and I mentioned this last week when I saw Earl Campbell and we were in Houston for the super bowl and he was in a wheelchair and it just, I don't know why it hit me so hard. And then I run into Jim McMahon in Tahoe and Jim talking about that maybe, you know, he was going to have to get his leg amputated, part of his leg amputated. We sort of live in this world sometimes we're in a vacuum and, and we don't look at what is life as much as we look at what is sporting life to us, who they are to us. When we see them on the field, it's when we see them off the field and you'll see some of these players and they're really beat up. And with Dion, first time I saw, you know, his feet, he took his shoes off and showed us and he had turf toe. And at that, you know, you don't think turf toe was going to slow down one of the greatest athletes of all time, but it did. And so you had to get these toes amputated and then you have the blood clot now with bladder cancer. But he's going to be there on the sidelines. And that was great news. It was a relief, I think, more than anything because privately I was told, you know, maybe it's 50, 50 if he's going to coach again and he wants to be prime, he wants to be coach prime. He doesn't want to be out there, not able to be that person, that, that confident person on the sidelines. And I think maybe there was a little bit of trepidation with that or concern over that. The other story yesterday, man who Manhattan shooting suspect said to have had CTE, had a note that mentioned the NFL, goes into the headquarters in New York City. A 27 year old man, he killed four people, wounded a fifth. And this was at the home office of the NFL. This is on Park Avenue, 3, 4, 5 Park Avenue. So he takes the wrong elevator, he's wants to go up to the NFL offices, he takes the wrong elevator. But he apparently was blaming the NFL for his injury. Cte, you know, it's the brain disease that is linked to repeated hits to the head. He was a high school player, played in Canada, and he had a history of head Trauma. But he casually walks in and I don't know if that's an AR or an ak, doesn't matter, but he's just walking in as if he's walking into work. The preliminary investigation, according to the mayor of New York City, is this man took the wrong elevator. He wanted to go to NFL headquarters. Instead, he went to Rudin Management, and that's where he started shooting people. 5th shooting victim taken to the hospital in critical condition, is out of surgery and right now in stable condition. But this man had some issues back in 2020, 22 and 2024, with law enforcement sources saying the AT2 mental health crisis holds on his background. Where they normally keep you, I think, for up to 72 hours because they're a danger to themselves. But scary moment, obviously, and four lives were lost yesterday. We haven't talked about CTE in a while after the lawsuit. It's still there. We've seen Tua and what's happened to him with a couple of concussions there. It's, it's quieted down, but it's almost because the NFL in that billion dollar lawsuit said, after this, you're kind of signing up and you know exactly what you're getting. It's sort of like when you see the, the warning on the side of cigarettes, like it's there. Surgeon general says you probably shouldn't do this, but we've gotten better helmets. I think that, you know, the, the medical approach is not to put your head in the sand or act like it doesn't exist. The guardian caps, which I, I think if we started out with that, nobody would have a problem with that. It just, we look at them and it doesn't feel like that's football for some reason. But I think if somebody comes along and is able to modify those to streamline a little bit and make them look more like a helmet, I don't think we'll have a problem with it. I mean, imagine the football players who put a face mask on. It's like, what are you doing that for? I don't know, maybe saved my face. I don't know. You look pretty weird. Or Jacques Plant when he put on a goalie mask and they probably went, do you see what Jacques got on? He's got a mask. Like, after a while it just becomes the norm. And, and hopefully if that cuts down on cte, because it is, it's just a terrible, terrible. I mean, it's debilitating for these poor people. You know, you start to look at what it does to you. You know some of the symptoms. You know, you, you get mood swings, memory loss. You, I mean, it leads to other things as well, seeing, you know, these great football players and they have to be fed, they have to be taken care of. You know, the wife who is all of a sudden taking care of, you know, this person, or you have to put them in a, you know, facility, assisted living. It's real. It's still there. Hopefully they continue with the progress, but, you know, it's still the, the risk will still be there. But this man who's 27 years of age, had suffered apparently some brain damage CTE and killed four people yesterday in New York City. All right, 877-3-DP show email address dp danpatrick.com Twitter handle@dpshow We'll check in with one of our good buddies. Daniel Jeremiah, former NFL scout, does a great job for NFL Network. He's been to a couple of camps and we'll talk to him. There was a signing yesterday, Cortland Sutton got signed by the Broncos. And I found this interesting because I love Terry McLaurin. I think he's a wonderful player. I think he's, you know, kind of battled through all the chaos and nonsense with Washington five straight seasons of a thousand receiving yards, and he's been in the league for seven years. And he produces. He wants to get paid. He's 30 years of age, same age, I believe, as Cortland Sutton. Sutton got paid yesterday by the Broncos, and Cortland Sutton is not as good as Terry McLaurin. And I hope that the now he's got a hold in. He's showed up at camp, doesn't want to get fined. But that was one of those where Denver signed up. Cortland Sutton had no problem with that. But the commanders not with Terry McLaurin. And McLaurin was great before they got Jaden Daniels. He was almost the constant there. And I like when those players get taken care of. Hopefully Trey Hendrickson gets paid. He did everything he was supposed to do, and hopefully the Bengals will sign him. Not always the case. There's sometimes when players ask for more money or they have two years left on their deal and they get paid and usually that comes back to haunt management there. Satan, what's poll question today? Well, we got two of them here and I think we're going to get them both after the break. Oh, okay. All right. After the break. Wow. This is after the break. Yeah. Worthy Two and two. All right. All right. Todd, have you seen Happy Gilmore, too? I have not Just said I was thinking about maybe saving it for the weekend, actually, because I don't really have much of a life on the weekend. So the next time I'm in a really big movie, then maybe you'll watch. I may see it one of these weeknights, but I may save it for like. Like a Saturday kind of thing, because I. A little dinner, and then it could be a Saturday night showcase at my house. Okay. All right. You and Paulie holding out? Yeah. Paul, I do have an update. My daughter and I watched the first movie. I was like. And she told me. How did you not show me this before? Now we're ready for part two. Yeah, but I wasn't in the original, which is a mistake on their end. It is, it is. But they. Sandler learned that. Yes, Sandler learned from his mistake. And then he put me in Happy Gilmore too. The update I got is they're looking at somewhere between 90 and 100 million streams on Happy Gilmore 2 the first week. That sounds like a good number. Yes, it is. That's a very good number. Yes. It doesn't mean anything to my bottom line because I do this. It's more of a charity that I do it. I do it for Sandler and his children so they have a better life. Helping out a friend. Yes. That's what I do. I don't. I don't charge an exorbitant rate. It's just basically, I'm here to give. Yes. Todd, do you need to sit down with the Sandman for a future deal where you get a little back end off of a certain streaming number? It's too late for that. It's too late for that. Although Sandler did buy Rock and David Spade and Rob Schneider, their favorite car, a couple of years ago. And. Well, it's a few years ago because of all their contributions to his movies. And I said to Sandler, you know, if I get to 20 movies, I'd kind of like to have a car. Well, I blew past 20 movies. No car. You know what? Paulie suggests that maybe Sandman would lease a car for me. Nice. 39 month. Yeah. 12, 000 miles. Yeah. Be nice, you know, nice payment plan. I'd be fine with that. Just, you know, just a gesture there. That's all. Just a nice little. Danny, I didn't buy your car. But maybe he's got to buy cars for his daughters. His two daughters, of course, but buy a horse for his wife, you know? Anywho. Okay, I. I shouldn't be turning it into a negative I'm in one of the biggest movies this year of all time. Yes, Todd, you already have the pontoon boat. Maybe like a souped up canoe. Is there something you can send to Maine for you? There's a backup deal to your pontoon boat if he doesn't want to go. Car. Why. Why are you joking? I'm not joking. It feels like you're joking about this. I think that would be a lovely gesture. Something for the water. This is why I berate you because you make fun of me. You. Your words hurt. I'm just saying it doesn't have to be a car. He can, you know, he can get you a golf cart. You can get you some kind of little boat. Golf cart would be fine. Yes. I think this is what people mean when they say you're gaslighting someone. You're gaslighting Todd right now. Oh, I. Oh, but what was he doing to me? You're. Because you're saying to Todd things like, you know, Todd, your words hurt. They do hurt. That's. That's when you're. You're gaslighting Todd. Oh, I'm gaslighting? Yeah. Because your words hurt, Dan. Oh, okay. And now you're, like throwing it back in Todd's face. I think this is what maybe one of the things people mean when they say 40 minutes of B rating. I think this would go under the B rate umbrella. You're turning the script a little bit there. But what. But what role did Todd play in this, though? So now you're blaming the victim. You're victim blame. Yeah. Being here, being alive. I'm the victim here. Showing up every day. I'm the victim. You took it as me being, like, poking. You were being sarcastic. I was being legitimately here. Some other options. That sandler might get you a nice president. It turned it into a thing. Just felt like negativity. Felt like you were gaslighting me. Oh, you're being gaslit. Yes. Okay. As being the weak victim. I apologize if I offended you by offering vehicle suggestions. Thank you. I appreciate that. That's the way it should be. Okay. When we come back, the long awaited poll suggestions. Poll questions. Suggestions there. All right, we'll take a break. We're just getting started. Dan and the Dan Ants, Dan Patrick Show. Be sure to catch the live edition of the Dan Patrick show. Weekdays at 9am Eastern, 6am Pacific on Fox Sports Rad, the iHeartRadio app. Hey, we're Kavino and Rich, Fox Sports radio. I knew I wanted to obey and submit, but I didn't fully grasp for the rest of my life what that meant. In the woods of Minnesota, a cult leader married himself to 10 girls and forced them into a secret life of abuse. Why did I think that way? Why did I allow myself to get so sucked in by this man and and thinking to the point that if I died for him, that would be the greatest honor. But in 2014, the youngest of the girls escaped and sparked an international manhunt. For all those years, you know, he was the predator and I was the prey. And then he became the prey. That was my dad reminding me and so many others who need to hear it that our trauma is not our shame to carry and that we have big, bold and beautiful lives to live after what happened to us. I'm your host and co president of this organization, Dr. Lea Tritate. On my new podcast, the Unwanted Sorority, we wade through transformation to peel back healing and reveal what it actually looks like and sounds like in real time. Each week I sit down with people who've lived through harm, carried silence, and are now reshaping the systems that failed us. We're going to talk about the adultification of black girls mothering as resistance, and the tools we use for healing. The Unwanted Sorority is a safe space, not a quiet space. So let's lock in. We only have 12 employees total in here and there's a lot of space in the man cave. But, you know, usually during the commercial breaks, I like to walk around and I just eavesdrop. I'm listening. And then we have Rob, who works in the back. He works on the newsletter, among other things. And he said a few weeks ago that he could beat Zion Williamson in a hundred meter dash. And of course everybody was like, what? And he goes, yes. And then I just walk back through. It's called the bullpen. So Ray is there and Dylan's there. Weeks our cameraman during the commercial break, Marvin was there. And all of a sudden I hear I would cream Zion Williamson in a 5K. So now it's gone from 100 meter dash to a 5K. And Marvin, you were there as the ear witness. I can't repeat what I said, but yes, I was there to witness it. I don't know how this started that all of a sudden a Knicks fan and he's going to call out Zion Williamson, he could beat him in 100 meter dash. Now, okay, I. The older I get, the better I was. And I'm always wanting to challenge. You know, people certainly do a shooting contest. I. I'm not gonna challenge somebody to 100 meter dash or 5k, certainly, who is a professional athlete like that, but. And I wanted to see who's the fastest person in the building. And I think I was giving what, 500. Is that what it was? To whoever is the fastest? Because this started with one of our backroom guys, one of the brgs that he was claiming. If you can beat Zion Williamson, who I think ran a 4640 or, you know, something like that, then you probably are the fastest guy in the building. And I was willing to put $500. And then he says, no, I don't want to do that, but I would race Zion Williamson. There's always entertainment in every nook and cranny in this place. Yes, Paul, couple details for background. We have not reached out to Zion yet. We weren't sure how to package this offer. Fritzi, that's on you. Zion listed at 6 6, 284 coming out of college.
Danette
We do not have any measurements of his speed.
Ian Pfaff
I can't find these. Ever run and been timed. Okay. No combine or anything. Okay. But there's a lot of speculation. I saw some video of him comparing.
Danette
Him to other guys running down the.
Ian Pfaff
Court and he's amongst the quicker guys in the league. Somebody's on record is saying who was it Marvin who talked about Zion's quickness? Dear and Fox. So Dear and Fox said that Zion would be the quickest. One of the quickest. One of the quickest at the four position. Correct. Okay, that's believable. Yes. The average NBA player runs about two and a half to three miles a game. Okay. A 5K is a little over three miles. Yeah, I feel like Zion is probably in that type of shape for sure. I'm gonna guess he could run a 5k. I'm gonna guess he can run a 5k and I'm gonna guess that he might be able to run at a decent pace. I don't know about the 100 meter dash, but I would love to have everybody who would like to be involved in that. We tried to set this up months ago that we would have a hundred meter dash. I don't know if any of the danets. I think Marvin said that he would run. It's Seaton. You'd run as well? Yeah, yeah. And then there's a couple of guys in the back who claim that they could run pretty fast. But $500, see who's the fastest person in the building. One race. I don't. I'm not going to have heats. Hold on. You're not? Well, I would have. I would have probably three groups of four and then we would just do times the fastest time. Or I would do the winner of each of those, you know, heats. Then they would face off for the grand prize of 500. Does that sound okay? Maybe even top two of each heat. No, no, no. Only one. I'm all about winning, not about participating. Yes, Seaton or yes, Paulie. If you were doing Olympic style, you could have 3, 4. The winner of each heat and the best time would be the fourth person of the finals. Okay. All right. Olympic style. Once again, this doesn't Happen Unless Rob, one of the BRGs decides to run Because I don't want this to be. Oh, such and such. One, Rob didn't. And then Rob goes, yeah, but I didn't run in it. Yes. Paulie. And the I team has never seen.
Danette
Rob do anything but sit in that.
Ian Pfaff
Chair and edit over the past few years.
Danette
He does a fine job.
Ian Pfaff
Yeah. But I've never seen him really move or stand since. I bet I have not seen anything athletic. He doesn't do pickleball. He doesn't do basketball. I don't think he did. Wiffle ball. Zion 66285.
Danette
Rob 58140.
Ian Pfaff
Is the estimate okay? Yes. Seaton. Yeah, I haven't seen any estimates either on if an NBA player runs two and a half miles per game, a video editor per shift. That mileage, I think, is significantly less. Your mileage may vary. Your mileage may vary. Yes, Todd. It's also easy to brag or show courage about a contest that will never actually happen. When you're throwing out something, that's the likelihood of Zion agreeing to this race, taking a shot. I love Rob, but that should be said. Somebody's gonna say it. When I sit next to Billy Joel, the piano, I will totally outplay him, which I know will never happen. Speaking of health, looking good. Luca is on the COVID of Men's Health, and all of a sudden, people are going, whoa, wait a minute here. Somebody got in shape. Yes. And I wonder if, does Men's Health reach out to Luca or vice versa? But Luca and his people working in conjunction with Men's Health, he's on the COVID And immediately I was seeing the reaction, and social media was saying, yeah, but they can Photoshop that. Well, then I saw him at Yankee Stadium with Aaron Judge. Well, they didn't Photoshop that. He looks. He looks thin. He looks svelte. Talks about his whole workout routine. And he was one of those guys that felt like in the. And Larry Bird did this. Larry Bird famously played softball and drank beer in the off season, and then they would use training camp to get in shape. Well, I think Luca just played basketball. I don't know if he's ever lifted weights. You know, I saw that there was a report that the place that he works out didn't have barbells and dumbbells, didn't have weights, basically, until recently. And then Luca started working out. And, you know, most of this is diet, just eating right, you know, what you drink, how much you drink, how much water, you know, all of those things. But he looks good. Prior to this, even seeing this and seeing this article, I said, he'll be the MVP this year. I truly believe that he'll be the mvp because he's gotten to that window where we did this to Joker, we did it to Giannis, we did it to Joe. Lnb. When are you going to be the best player? When are you going to be the mvp? Now we also ask, when are you going to win a title? Well, he went further than Joel Embiid did and be got his MVP. Giannis got his MVP and won a title. Couple MVPs, Joker, a few MVPs got his title. Now it's Lucas turn because he just saw Shea Gilgis Alexander get the MVP and get his title. And they're around the same age. Now all of a sudden we're saying Shay Gilgis is better than Luca. We're saying Anthony Edwards is better than Luca. And I'd say, hold on here, hold on. He's better than Anthony Edwards. If you said, you can have Anthony Edwards or Luca right now, I would take Luca wouldn't even think about it. Anthony Edwards is a highlight. He's got a. There's another step for him to take. And that's, you know, the maturity aspect of this, to want to be a leader, to act like a leader. He's a wonderfully talented player, but I don't think he's better than Luca. Shay Gilges say Shay is proven to be a leader. He's a guy who goes out and does it every single night. And he got his team, you know, to the NBA championship. So he's going to be ranked higher than Luca. Even though I hate these lists where we're ranking players, I would take Shea Gilgis because I can count on him. But I think this is that year. This is the biggest year of Luka's life. Because we're kind of on the exit strategy end of LeBron's career, and who knows what he's saying. He was. He was on a yacht with the Joker's agent and his agent and talking about basically 2026. Okay, I don't know what the cryptic message means. Feels like, hey, you know, maybe I'll go to Dallas. You know, I got my Frank Kyrie's there and Anthony Davis is there. And, you know, I could help Cooper flag and I have no idea, but it feels like LeBron knows this isn't your team. And if there was any question, the Lakers have answered that because this is about Luca. And I think Luca is saying to the Lakers, I understand my role here. I understand what it means to be A leader to be. I have this gift. I need to take care of this. You don't want to look back and say, God, I wish I would have put in the time, put in the effort. And Luca looks great. And I think that that that says a lot about the off season. Now, I always go back to this, and. And as soon as I saw the COVID on Men's Health with Luca, the first thing I thought of was when Michael Finley took a beer out of Luca's hand after a game. Luca is in the hallway outside the locker room, and Michael Finley takes the beer out of his hand. There's cameras there. Michael knew that Luca's just drinking beer. And that's what I thought of. Well, now somebody's pushing you. And I thought working with LeBron, seeing LeBron, the time that he puts in, that by proxy, Luca would want to be in better shape, to know he has to be in better shape. And look out. NBA. Kyrie tells the story of Luca, and he says there was a practice where Luca scored 24 points in three minutes. He was cooking somebody that badly. It's hard to score 24 points, let alone 24 points in three minutes. But Kyrie said it's one of those moments where you go, damn, I got the MVP odds according to DraftKings. Joker and then SGA, and then it's Luca. So Joker plus 200. SGA plus 250. Luca plus 650. Then it's Giannis Anthony Edwards, Victor Wembanyama, and Cade Cunningham. Victor Wembanyama in the next two years. I think after that, it's his mvp. I just feel like what he's going to do is going to be game changing. A couple of phone calls in here. Get started. Let's see. Chris in Texas. Hi, Chris. What's on your mind? Wait. Did we come up with our poll questions? Yeah. Oh, I might even wait until after the next break. No, can. Can it wait until after the neck? Let me get to Chris in Texas, and then Seaton will come up with the poll question suggestions. All right. Hi, Chris. Hey, Dan.
Danette
What's up?
Ian Pfaff
Hey.
Danette
Hey. I just want to say this is a bucket list item for me because you have entertained me ever since I was a child. I'm not trying to make you feel old, but you're the man, and today's my birthday.
Ian Pfaff
Oh.
Danette
And I just want to say that I love everybody, but suck it back row. Well, I've got to say that.
Ian Pfaff
And I'm.
Danette
And I wanted to weigh in. 6, 10, 3, 5, 9.
Ian Pfaff
All right. Thank you.
Danette
And also Boomer sooner.
Ian Pfaff
That's all I got to say. All right, well, thank you, Chris. How about we give Chris. Well, maybe the back row doesn't want to give a. He loves everybody, but suck it, Back row ready? Happy birthday. Happy birthday. Thank you, Chris. Yes, Todd? I'm wondering when someone does the suck it back or front row, that they would need to elaborate a little further as to why. Do you want that? I think I do. Okay. Maybe that would help us. It might help me. It's like, you stop singing, you're not funny, whatever. Other million things I've heard that are negative, but maybe you need to give a sentence or two about why. Todd, we've been saying that to you for years, but just throwing out second front row, a second back row is hurtful. I think you need to kind of step up with a because and then just a short. Okay. All right. You ask for it. Yes. You know what? I kind of appreciate that, actually, because I feel like I get a lot of suckets directed at me that are really. Because I'm Todd. Because it's a back row, but it's really. They're just saying Todd, but they just don't want to say that out loud. Fair. Very fair point. I see Chris in Mississippi. Hi, Chris. How are you?
Danette
Hey, Dan. What's up, man?
Ian Pfaff
Hey.
Danette
Longtime listener, first time caller. 63195, Preacher 5. Going back to what you were talking about with Dion and about how just kind of struck a chord with me about nobody knows what these athletes are dealing with and everything like that. I'm pulling in the parking lot right now at my church, and that kind of relates to everybody. You just never know what anybody's dealing with, you know?
Ian Pfaff
Yeah. And once again, when I was in Tahoe and I saw Jim McMahon, former Bears quarterback, and he was limping, had a smile on his face. But we started talking about health care. He doesn't have health care. And he said that. He showed me the X rays of his leg, and he said, yeah, they. They thought about amputating my leg, but he has smile on his face. But it. It just. It stayed with me, man. Hit me a lot harder because I've known Jim a long, long time, and, you know, they're. They're just like us. We don't. I mean, they'll say that, hey, I'm just like you. And you're like, no, you're not. You're famous, or you got money or. No, he's just like us. Got health issues, doesn't have health care from the NFL. So all of the things that he did and he was the punky QB and he won a Super Bowl, I mean, all of those things, it doesn't matter now. It's like seeing Ryan Sandberg used to go to Cubs games. Didn't know Rhino, but I would go there to hang out with Mark Grace who played first base and you just watch somebody. He was the other 23 in town and Rhino was a great player. He'd gone at the age of 65. You know there is mortality to all of this, even though we look at them differently. And you know that that's where it hit me with Earl Campbell and it hit me with Jim McMahon that they are when it's all said and done, just like us. I was walking by and I saw on one of the monitors, the mothership was asking the question, is Baker Mayfield a top five NFC quarterback? Now, I'm not big on list rankings like that, but then I said to Paulie, I said, do you agree Baker Mayfield, top five quarterback, nfc? I said, would you take him over Jordan Love? You said, yeah. Would you take him over Dak Prescott? No doubt. Okay. Baker's last two seasons, 41 touchdowns and 16 picks last year. Yeah, 40, you know. Would you take him over Jared Goff? Oh, man. No. Would you take him over Jalen Hurts? No. Would you take him over Matthew Stafford? Yes. Because of injury. Okay. Baker's reliable right now.
Danette
It's like he's at the point of.
Ian Pfaff
Career where we know what he is.
Danette
I think he's 29.
Ian Pfaff
It's all cleaned up. Daniel Jeremiah, NFL Network analyst and co host of Move the Sticks podcast. He is a Chargers radio color analyst, former NFL scout, and he's at the Chargers camp today and was recently at the Titans camp inside. The NFL Network's training camp coverage continues today starting at noon Eastern. Let me start there. Daniel Baker Mayfield, top five NFC quarterback.
Danette
Well, first of all, Dan, I think this is when, you know, the off season, you know, was too long, when it's like we've narrowed the list. Mayfield, is he a top three former Oklahoma quarterback who's played in the last 15 years? But golly, I'm having a run through all. Wait, who is all in this, in this discussion? I agree with every all the comps that were just made except Stafford. I would they were in the same building at the same time not long ago. And you know, to me, I know Stafford has heard that time, but Stafford to me is just, he's more talented. So even at this stage in his career. But yeah, he belongs up there in that in the nfc. But obviously the greater point, Dan, it's how lopsided the league is now stack him up with the afc. That's a long list on that side.
Ian Pfaff
Okay, but is where does Baker rank in former Oklahoma quarterbacks in the last decade?
Danette
Just, just above Kyle. Well, are we gonna count? We can go back further. Does Troy Aikman still count as a no Oklahoma quarterback?
Ian Pfaff
Okay. No.
Danette
Okay. Yeah, he's, he's up there. I would have him. Hypo would be below him. Sam Bradford is, you know, That's. That's Debate in his prime, before the injuries. I mean, that's a. That's a great. That's a great radio segment right now. That's. Do that.
Ian Pfaff
Okay. But Jalen Hurts. Is he the best Oklahoma quarterback in the last 10 years? Or do you put Kyler Murray or do you put Baker Mayfield? Let's just do those three.
Danette
Yeah. No, I would go. So it's Baker, Tyler, and then Jalen. I would go, jalen, Baker, Kyler.
Ian Pfaff
Okay. All right. I'm just not sure about Jalen Hurts. It's weird how you can be great in a Super bowl loss, great in a Super bowl win. I just don't know, is he a great quarterback or is he just the right quarterback for a great team?
Danette
Yeah, I mean, that's tough to. It's tough to figure that. I will let you know, though, Dan, we are in danger of Spencer Rattler throwing this back in our face after a big 20, 25.
Ian Pfaff
What about Landry Jones or. But Hertz is.
Danette
To your point, though, like, it. They're different, obviously, totally different style players. And it just does feel like the. The rewind of the conversations on, you know, Brady with the early championships, which was like, how much is him? How much is it with the team? The point that, you know, that makes it challenging to me is with Jalen. I was talking about this the other day. If you were to go through, like, the great teams and you're going to have a draft off of their players, that, to me, is a fascinating discussion of, like, which pick would Jalen Hurts be off of the Eagles? Like, you know, just in terms of talent, he's probably not one of the three most talented players on that team. And you wouldn't say that about, you know, Josh Allen with the Bills would be the first pick. Mahomes with the Chiefs would be the first. First pick. You know, on and on, you kind of go through that list. So that's where that. That's where that becomes a challenge.
Ian Pfaff
Yeah, I think that's a great point. And. And look, these lists drive me crazy, but sometimes I have to acquiesce and go, okay, I'll do it. We're talking to Daniel Jeremiah, former NFL scout. He works for NFL Network, does a great job on their NFL draft coverage. You were at the Titans camp, and it feels like. Is. Is Cam Ward officially the starting quarterback for the Titans?
Danette
Yeah. I mean, I don't know if they've officially announced it, but it's clear and obvious when you go out there and watch him that he's, he's the guy and he did some good things when I was there. He made some big time throws at a practice in the stadium the other day and you know, he, he's, he's got a lot of ability. He's got a loose arm he can move around, which he's probably still going to need to do. I know they, they efforted to really upgrade that offensive line, but it's still, you know, it's a little bit leaky. But I just, I was talking to their, their leadership there with the president and general manager. I said, you know, the kind of the cardinal sin in football, in the NFL right now is you can't be bad and boring, Dan. Like you can be one or the other, but you can't be both. And this is going to keep them from being a boring team. They're going to be a fun watch, you know, with Ridley making some plays down the field and, you know, Pollard's a good running back and now you've got an exciting quarterback. There's going to be turnovers, there's going to be some ugly moments. But I contend when you have a young quarterback, you're smart to try on that side of the ball because not all losses are the same. Rookie quarterback, if you're losing 28 to 27 or 28, 24 and he's, you know, showing some flag is a heck of a lot better than losing 13 to 9.
Ian Pfaff
You know that that's part of the problem where like Carolina was bad and boring. I mean, Bryce is, is fun and showed glimpses last year and they're probably going to be better. And I look at the Cleveland Browns, they got Miles Garrett and I, but I don't find them entertaining. I don't know if people are going to, come on, kids, we're going to go watch Miles Garrett today. They're kind of in, you know, no man's land. While we talk about their quarterbacks, they have two first round picks for next year that I don't know if it matters what they have this year because of those first round picks next year. So how do you assess Cleveland? Are they bad and boring as well?
Danette
I think the defense has a chance to be good, but that doesn't make them less boring. So I do think they're in the boring category for sure. I don't know that I'm willing to put them totally in the bad category yet. And I think Flacco, even at this age, you know, he'll make them competitive, he'll make some plays. But I look at them, Dan, with those two, two first round picks you mentioned. And this year should be, in my opinion about discovery. People don't want to hear that. But like I want to end the year. I'd like to know what I have in those two rookie quarterbacks, you know, at least, at least let them play a little bit. So I have some idea of what I have before you, you go into a draft. So everybody, you know, the season hasn't even started yet. We talking about, let's, you know, we're gonna. Joe Flacco is going to take us to the AFC championship game. And I'm like, you know, I don't really see that happening. But it would be a shame to get through this whole year for them to be kind of a right around or under 500 team and to not see those two rookies and not, you know, not know what you have going into year two.
Ian Pfaff
Yeah, I think that certainly Shador is going to get a chance to play, probably start a few games as well, but more likely to use their two first round picks on a quarterback next year, the Rams or the Browns.
Danette
I mean, I would say, you know, if the quarterbacks live up to, you know, some of the, some of the love they're getting over the summer here for next year's quarterback class, depending on who comes out, I would say that it's. I think they're both, I would be shocked if, if both of them didn't end up with a quarterback in next year's draft.
Ian Pfaff
You are at Chargers camp and like we're seeing Jim Harbaugh make this a Michigan looking offense and they run the ball. Resigned Slater there, you know, they draft, they draft a running back, you bring in Najee, but their best offensive player is Justin Herbert. It's always, it's like J.J. mcCarthy. I didn't know how good he was at Michigan because he sort of de emphasized J.J. mcCarthy. Is Jim kind of de emphasizing Justin Herbert? I mean he had his best year, not statistically, but I think his, his quarterback rating was so. It almost feels like. Is this Michigan 2.0 for the Chargers?
Danette
Yeah, I think, you know, look, he protected the football until you got to the playoff game of unfortunately turned it over a little bit against the Texans. But I think the game plan is, you know, hey, maybe we can major in Clark Kent and Minor and Superman and then you know, make. That'll keep you fresh and when we need you to kind of bust that out, we can do that. I mean, really truthfully, it's what the Chiefs have done with Mahomes over the last couple years.
Ian Pfaff
Yeah.
Danette
Hasn't been really the driving force that offense. So I think that's, that's part of it. But I was there last year at camp the day that Herbert, I believe it was his foot hurt. His foot. Then he missed a couple weeks of practice and then they didn't really use him much in the run game. But I mean, at the practice I was at and you. I was seeing like quarterback power and they were, they were some design quarterback runs where it was like, oh my gosh, like if they, if they're willing to do that and Herbert can, you know, add that a little bit of that Josh Allen element to, to his game. And he's a big, athletic strong guy and you saw with, with Andrew Luck and obviously he had Kaepernick with the, with the 49ers. I'm not saying it's going to be that level of volume in terms of running, but that could be an area of Herbert's game that they haven't really tapped into yet.
Ian Pfaff
Yeah, I go back to his Rose bowl performance and I mean, his legs stood out to me when he was at Oregon in that game. And I don't know where coaches stand on having my quarterback run. You kind of hold your breath when Josh Allen runs because he's not running necessarily away from you, whereas Lamar and Kyler and some of those guys are avoiding contact. Can you. I mean, I would try to utilize Justin Herbert the way they do Josh Allen. I just wouldn't have him take on defenders like Josh does.
Danette
Yeah, I mean, that would be preferable not to initiate contact, which Josh likes to do. But I, I mean, for, for the first couple years he was in the league and doing all the Charger games, I would always go down the field for warm ups and I'd always get a chance to talk with the opposing GM and other personnel buddies and they would all say the same thing. Dan, it's just like, good night. I had no idea how big Justin Herbert is. Like, he is huge. And it's not, not much difference between him and Josh Allen size wise. They are both big, strong, sturdy guys. So I don't think it's something you want to do 10 times a game. But you know, having that element even, even on zone reads and just having the threat of him as someone who could pull the ball.
Ian Pfaff
Yeah.
Danette
Now you've got Omarion Hampton, who is big and explosive and he can help the run game even if he's not necessarily carrying it.
Ian Pfaff
Who's the worst team in the NFL right now.
Danette
I don't, I'm curious to see what the, what the Saints end up looking like. You know, the Titans are going to be better, but I still think defensively, you know, they don't really have corners, they don't have edge, rushes. I think they're going to give up a lot of points. Those would be the, those would be the two that would come to the top of mind.
Ian Pfaff
And I know that Arch Manning hasn't played a full season at Texas, but if you're telling me that the Saints are on the clock with the number one pick, could you see Arch Manning deciding, I think he's staying another year after this. But if, if his hometown Saints are on the clock with the number one pick and he's had a very good year at Texas, do you think Arch Manning would come out for that?
Danette
I don't. I mean, everything seems to be what you're saying about him wanting to get another year and it's about having the long term success. And I, you know, as much as it'd be cool to play for your hometown team, I don't, I just don't think that's as much of a draw anymore. You know, if that were the case, he'd probably be playing for LA you right now.
Ian Pfaff
Yeah, I think he's gonna, you know, because money's not the issue. Although if the Cleveland Browns are there staring at you, that might make me want to go back to play another year. Couple more years. I might go to grad school at.
Danette
I've always wanted to be a dentist.
Ian Pfaff
Great to talk to you. Thank you for joining us. I know you got a busy schedule and we'll be watching.
Danette
Thanks, Dan. I appreciate you, buddy.
Ian Pfaff
Daniel Jeremiah, NFL Network analyst and their inside training camp coverage continues today starting at noon Eastern. Yeah. What Harbaugh is doing with the Chargers is fascinating because you have your best offensive player, but you're, you're not asking him to be your best offensive player. It's kind of, you know, Troy Aikman with the Cowboys, when you, you had Mike and you had Emmett, you're just asking Troy, when we need you, we need you to step up. J.J. mcCarthy at Michigan. That's why when scouts would talk about how good he was, I kept thinking, I, I just didn't see it. And I still haven't seen it. But I'm fascinated to find out just how good he is because the Vikings made a conscious, concerted effort that they were drafting a quarterback. Now maybe they didn't Think that Sam Darnold was going to perform as well as he did, but they moved on from him. Moved on from Kirk cousins. And J.J. mcCarthy gets the call. But watching Justin Herbert, and he joins us on Thursday on the show. But it's. We don't need you to throw as much as you've thrown before. We just need you to be really good when we ask you to throw. You know, Jim is about defense and run of the football. That's what he does. Let me see a couple of phone calls. Lisa in California. Good morning, Lisa. What's on your mind today? Good morning, guys. I just wanted to weigh in here.
Dan Patrick
I firmly believe that the reason everybody.
Danette
Tells Todd to suck it is because.
Dan Patrick
They would rather he suck it than sing it.
Ian Pfaff
Wow. Wow. Lisa off the top rope. Wow. And nobody even knew she was up there. I. You know, with that voice, I thought it was going to be something really sweet. I felt that. I felt that one. Yeah. Rather suck it. That's gonna sting. That's gonna sting for a little while. Lisa, how do you feel about that?
Danette
Well, I think it's interesting you guys think I sound sweet.
Ian Pfaff
There's no sweet in my game. Whoa.
Danette
Boom.
Ian Pfaff
Alrighty. Thank you, Lisa. All right, Lisa and Pandora step into a ring. Who's coming out? My money is on Lisa for sure. Yeah. Because, I mean, Pandora feels like a lover. Yeah. But she's out on the farm. She's out on the ranch all day. That is true. She's. She's out there probably rustling cattle or something like that. That's Lisa in California. She's not playing masseuse. You know, she's got strong hands. Racy in Georgia. Hi, Tracy.
Danette
Good morning, gentlemen. Including Fritzi. You know, I'm really pulling for y' all to get this DP show jacked off up in the air. And I was thinking, what could really help us? Perhaps some corporate stuff. Sponsorship. You know, let's kind of imagine the first annual DP show, Jacked off, presented by Jiffy Lube. And then you could donate all your proceeds to local strike victims.
Ian Pfaff
All right, well, thank you, Tracy. Yeah, we're trying to get maybe some, you know, GNC that would help us get jacked and, you know, and then we would have the competition of who's jacked off, you know, the jacked off competition. I think creatine's making a big comeback these days, so. Yeah. Yeah, I think we get on the creatine. All right. I like you parsing your words. As you say. Yes, I am. Yes, I am.
