Marvin
Come on.
Paulie Fusco
No, no, I'm serious. They're the official lawn care treatment provider, the PGA Tour, so they know what it takes to get golf course quality lawns.

Recapping last night, Purdue over Texas at the buzzer. Iowa, Nebraska. What a strange finish that was. Illinois surprising Houston by 10 and Arizona looking my Arizona Wildcats dominating Arkansas 109 to 88. So we have basketball coming up tonight and I have some point spreads for entertainment purposes only. Duke minus six and a half against St. John's Michigan minus eight and a half against Alabama. Iowa State minus three and a half against Tennessee and Yukon minus one and a half against Michigan State. Now looking ahead to the elite eight odds, I was curious. You got Iowa and Illinois another Big Ten matchup. Big Ten's having a really nice tournament and really nice year when you factor in Indiana football. And now you got Purdue advancing. Purdue is getting six and a half against Arizona. Iowa getting six and a half against Illinois. Satan. What's the first hour poll question today?
Todd
Got one here from Paul after last night's games. Which is worse, too many players on the court or not enough players on the court? Wow, that's a tough one.
Paulie Fusco
Yeah. Yeah, Paulie.
Tony Fusco
So Iowa, Nebraska. I was making the comeback. I think there's like 58 seconds left. I was getting ready to inbounds and there's some shuffling of players. And then you see a baseball pass and then the announcers say what happened?
Paulie Fusco
Here's Fred Hoiberg, the Nebraska head coach. Yes, Marvin, I have the sound too
Marvin
of the play by play.
Paulie Fusco
Yeah, let's, let's, let's do that. And then we'll have the coach, Marcus
Dan Patrick
Lawrence, you put all that. Look at this pass. Oh my goodness.
Paulie Fusco
What happened?
Marvin
Well, that was a major defensive breakdown there.
Dan Patrick
Well, they just don't guard full Garris and he's waving for it. How about the vision there? Buked and gel, trying to get back in the play. Wait a minute.
Marvin
I think Nebraska only had four defenders on the floor.
Paulie Fusco
Stan Van Gundy with the catch there. But here's Fred Hoiberg, Nebraska head coach on having only four players for rink.
Marvin
About 58 seconds left. They had that deep ball to Alvaro for the bucket. I think there were four players on the court can you say what happened?
Dan Patrick
I'll address that one. Myron. That, you know, put that one on me. It was a miscommunication and, you know, I'm the head coach. Put that one on me.
Paulie Fusco
Did. There's some confusion online about if that's the rules. You're supposed to have five guys on the court. Were the officials supposed to hold the
Dan Patrick
ball before the ball was a good question, Robin. I've never been in a situation like that. I know they always count to make sure there's not six. I don't know the rule on that with. With four. But yeah, I mean, again, it was a miscommunication and, you know, unfortunately happened. But, you know, as far as the rule, I've never been a part of anything like that, so.
Paulie Fusco
Yeah. And, you know, I give coach credit. Whether it was his fault or not, he was going to fall on the sword there. You don't want to blame one of your kids. And, you know, it was a great year for Nebraska. You know, when you consider that that is a football school and what they did with basketball and they were a good team from start to finish, and we thought it was going to be a great game. It turned out to be a great game going against Iowa. And it's just tough to end that way because if I said to Nebraska fans at the beginning of the year, hey, you're going to go to the sweet 16, but you're going to lose in dramatic fashion and you're going to lose to Iowa, you're still signing up for that. But this is your hated rival and give credit to Iowa. They hung in there. They. They just lingered. They just lingered long enough and they end up picking up the win. Alrighty. 8, 7, 7, 3 DP show email address dpdanpatrick.com Twitter handle the DP show where the Big Ten is making a statement. When you consider football and basketball and you got a couple of teams that can advance, a couple more Big Ten teams that can advance tonight. Michigan State. Michigan. If I'm Greg Sankey in the SEC and I'm watching this, I go, okay, all right. You're kind of piling on here a little bit. You know, we can take Michigan or Ohio State winning a national title in football now Indiana. And then we got basketball, basketball dominating. And a couple SEC teams bounced. Certainly with Arkansas, it was a great run for John Calipari. But here's the hard part. You know, you're not going to have Acuff back next year. He's going into the NBA. That's the hard part, because John has never had a problem recruiting. And we've talked about this, I've talked about this with him. Can you get players who are going to stay for two years or three years? Because I think the wave of the future is these kids are going to make enough money to stay in college that they're not going to leave early and maybe be a second round pick or not get drafted. They might stay if they can make $500,000 or somebody makes $750,000 and they'll stay an extra year or maybe they'll stay for two extra years. Your mid majors are going to lose their players, you know, their star player that might appear on the radar. Then all of a sudden, you know, these big schools will swoop in and pick them up. You know, John still needs to be able to get that core that can be there the next year. You want to have Acuff. He's a tremendous player and he was wonderful throughout the tournament. The last tournament run I can remember for somebody like this Steph Curry at Davidson, I think Steph scored 100 points in the tournament. Acuff had around 90. I think he surpasses Ion Williamson's debut with the NCAA tournament. But he's a great coach when you think about it. And look what's happening so far with March Madness. I mean, Tom Izzo, one of the greatest coaches of all time, Pitino, you can make an argument there's no greater coach strategy wise and you know, X's and O's than Rick Pitino. And that's, that's incorporating NBA and college. His ability to do what he does, every place that he goes is really remarkable, unmatched. But you have, you know, Danny Hurley's got a couple of titles there, there, there are a lot of high end coaches who have gotten this far. And the tricky part is North Carolina is sitting there open and you wonder what coach in the NCAA tournament might end up at North Carolina. Because it feels like, and I was told this yesterday, North Carolina wants to get out ahead of the Kansas situation because if Bill Self steps down, who could then fill that void? And North Carolina knows you're kind of on the clock. You want to make sure you get your guy. You want to get your guy before that opening happens at Kansas. By the way, Bill Murray's son, Luke Murray, he's the offensive coordinator basically for UConn basketball. He's going to take the BC job. Now that's e me because yesterday I had Dan Hurley on and I should have asked him Are you prepared to lose, Luke? And you know, it was rumored there I got caught up and ran out of time. And when we got done, I made it. Yeah, I should have asked him about that because, you know, you have this odd, you know, this tournament run and you're going to lose a really, really, really valuable person on that coaching staff. It's inevitable. But then, you know, I got the heads up that he was probably taking the BC job and I didn't ask. So that. That's on me. Yeah. Seaton.
Todd
Dan Hurley, had you asked him, probably would have started rubbing his eyes and say, hi, Dan.
Paulie Fusco
I just, you know, players come and
Todd
go and they just.
Paulie Fusco
I, you know, I got to deal
Todd
with what I could deal with. I can only control, so.
Paulie Fusco
You're right.
Todd
Father wouldn't have allowed that.
Paulie Fusco
I know, but I should have still asked the question. Even though I probably know what his answer would be. I. I still should. But he's going to stay on with Yukon. Oh, look at Marvin all decked out in his. His husky gear.
Marvin
Come on. You got to stay ready, so you have to get ready.
Paulie Fusco
Okay.
Marvin
Come on.
Paulie Fusco
Oh, you're ready.
Marvin
It's game day.
Paulie Fusco
You're always ready.
Marvin
Come on.
Paulie Fusco
Always. Okay.
Marvin
I'mma die in this.
Paulie Fusco
Okay.
Marvin
Bury me right in this.
Paulie Fusco
Really?
Marvin
Yes.
Paulie Fusco
Okay. Like that's a verbal commitment.
Marvin
I'm gonna sign a letter of intent too.
Paulie Fusco
Okay. All right. So I'll bury you in that.
Marvin
Oh, absolutely.
Paulie Fusco
Okay. All right.
Marvin
No questions. Is Rip Hamilton.
Paulie Fusco
Oh, it's a Rip Hamilton jersey.
Marvin
Come on now.
Paulie Fusco
Okay.
Marvin
Come on. Came out the womb ready for Yukon.
Todd
It's vintage.
Paulie Fusco
Nice. Pull up jumper. 15 footer by Rip Hamilton.
Marvin
Come off the screen.
Paulie Fusco
Yes, that's true. Set me a pick. I'll hit the 15 footer. Yes. Paul.
Tony Fusco
Would it be more cool to be Khalid El Amin? A little more nich jersey at Champ Sports?
Marvin
In 1998, they weren't selling Khalid Ellame jerseys. This was 49 in 1998.
Paulie Fusco
Khalid Ellamy. Wasn't he a second round pick of the Bulls?
Tony Fusco
Yeah, he played like six months for the Bulls.
Paulie Fusco
He did.
Marvin
And he was built like Kirby Puckett.
Paulie Fusco
Yeah. Yeah.
Marvin
Undersized and overweight. But he got busy.
Paulie Fusco
And he was a really good college player. He was a fun college player. Got busy off the court as well. Then he get pulled over.
Tony Fusco
Yeah, a long time ago.
Paulie Fusco
Back when you weren't allowed to get pulled over with. I. I met a guy yesterday and he was showing off his car. Beautiful BMW station wagon. And I said, man, this really nice. He said, yeah, there's only one problem. It smells like pot. I said, well, don't smoke in the car. He goes, no, I, I, we rent this out and somebody smoked pot so it kind of absorbed in the leather. They lease it out. And I go, if you get pulled over, you're in trouble. Like it reeked. And the guy go, I don't smoke, but I drive this, I've been driving this car for three weeks now. I'm like, does it get, you know, the fine Corinthian leather like it just gets absorbed there in the carpet. I don't know how much there's smoke in there, but somebody maybe got hot boxed in that. I don't know how I got from A to Kalida Khalid El Amin to this. Once again, this show not scripted. Yes, Paul, I, I was wondering one
Tony Fusco
thing about college basketball. Do you think schools that take these one and dones would prefer not to take the one and dones and have guys that stay? Like you asked Danny Hurley yesterday, do you want these big names or you want guys for years and years, he's had years and years. Like Iowa's got a bunch of 21 year olds on the roster.
Paulie Fusco
Yeah, Purdue, same way. Yeah. Like you get that experience and I still believe in that. It's nice to have that freshman and but we've seen, you gotta have other players. You can have the freshmen. I gotta have, you know, some juniors and seniors in there because of these moments right now. March Madness, because we've seen, you know, these freshmen and they're only there for six months and they may be approaching it that way, that it's not the end of the world if they don't win a title because they're going to the NBA, it's the end of the world to these Purdue kids who are going to have been there three or four years, or the Nebraska players who have been there three or four years.
Marvin
Yes, Marv, it's a fine line. You want a really good college player, but you don't want an NBA prospect. You don't want somebody that man, he can go in the lottery. You want somebody, you know what if he got out, he'd be a late first at best, maybe second rounder.
Paulie Fusco
But you know what happens though, Marvin, is these kids have so many people talking to them. It's like, man, you're gonna, you're gonna be a first round draft pick, you know, at worst you'll be a second round draft pick. So they believe that. And then you'll find a lot of these guys and it's only two rounds. I mean, the draft used to be like eight or nine rounds, but now, you know, you got to decide, am I really ready to go or do I need another year? Hey, I can stay another year because they're going to pay me X amount of money. Yes, Mark.
Marvin
Yeah. The worst part is watching a kid that was projected to go lottery. And look, there's 30 kids that were being told, hey, you're a lottery pick. There's only 14 lottery picks. So after pick 14, it's like, oh my gosh, what am I doing here? I could have been back in school making money. Especially now with nil.

Learn more@electricforall.org Robbie Hummel, NCAA NBA analyst for NBC, CBS Turner, Big Ten net. You're probably listening to all of this going, what the hell are they talking about? Robbie, part of the broadcast team last night for iow, Nebraska, Houston and Illinois. Thanks for joining us. I know you had a late night. At what point do you realize Nebraska has four players on the floor?
Dan Patrick
Well, first off, I, you know, you did arrest Adam Sandler in the longest yard, so he may have something to say about that for, for the eulogy. But I realized it when Coach Van Gundy pointed out, and honestly, I, I was in the middle of a thought, and then I just was like, oh my God, he's wide open. And that's, you know, coach with the eyes right there. He saw that. And that was a great catch by him. I don't think Dan I've ever seen in a, in a high major college or, you know, NBA at this level. I've never seen four guys on the floor out of a timeout. That, that was shocking.
Paulie Fusco
Okay, but give me accountability for something like that. How, how does that happen with coaches, assistant coaches, and the players themselves?
Dan Patrick
Well, and you, you see now in these broadcasts where there will be an assistant coach with a board and there will be five names with five numbers and that's who you're guarding. I, I can only imagine that it's just a total miscommunication where coach put somebody in and that guy's not paying attention. And then you get to the floor and rank mast was sort of standing up and trying to get in the game. But I, I just think it, it's on both, you know, it's on the players to listen, it's on the coaches to double check. And it's just a, it's a total failure all the way around in that situation.
Paulie Fusco
Does the official, can he play a role in this? To say to coach, hey, you only got four on the floor?
Dan Patrick
That, that is a good point right there. And a lot of those, you'll see the officials in all of these games where they're counting guys to make sure there's not six. And I'm sure that a lot of officials would say to that bench, hey, you've got four guys out here. Yeah, that's, that's a great point, but that's definitely a better question for a guy that has refereed in NCAA tournament games than, than for me. But yeah, that's, that's a really good point.
Paulie Fusco
But you get penalized for six. You don't get pen four.
Dan Patrick
Correct. Correct. You just get scored on how good is.
Paulie Fusco
Yeah, that's true. How good is Iowa?
Dan Patrick
I think they're good and I think they're playing their best basketball at the right time. You know, for so much of this season, it's been. Well, it's been at Sturts and it's just kind of everybody else and can he get enough help? And his usage is so high and his minutes are so high and he's just having to do so much. But whether it's full Garris in the Florida game with the shot or even last night, he was tremendous in a number of ways. Tate Sage, you know, Tavian Banks in the, in the Florida game had 20 that. They've gotten contributions from some other guys and they, they're just so well coached. Like, Ben McCollum is an incredible story of winning everywhere and scheming and the, the attention to detail. You go to a practice, they're, they're working on stuff that is so, you know, like minute and just, hey, I don't want you here. I want you to be a step to the left or the footwork needs to be this, like, just things that, you know, a lot of people or even a lot of players and coaches would probably let slide. He's not letting slide. That dude is on it with the details.
Paulie Fusco
Illinois surprised me. I know they're a really good team. I know they got the, the players from the Balkans, but you know, that defense. I mean, Houston's not a high scoring team, but still you held them to 55 in a home game. Yeah, that one surprised me a lot. How about you?
Dan Patrick
Well, and, and yes, because I saw Illinois in February and they were giving up 90 points to seem. It felt like everybody. The, the problem has never been offense for Illinois. It has been the defensive side of the floor. I thought VCU could give them some problems because I saw them in the A10 championship game and they had dynamic guards, they had some shooting on the perimeter. It's like, all right, that, that's going to be a tough cover. And they overwhelmed them and they kind of did the same thing with Houston. And not just the home game, but like Milos Usen and Emmanuel Sharp and JoJo Tucker played the national championship game last year. So you have the home environment, you've got experienced players, you've got probably two lottery pick freshmen and they just kept them stuck in the mud all night long. And Illinois got the positional size and right now they're guarding at a high level and we know they can score like they're a scary team if they're going to guard.
Paulie Fusco
Like this is the Big Ten a basketball conference or a football conference.
Dan Patrick
I guess we've won the last three national championships with the Big Ten, so I guess football. But this is quite the season for the Big Ten in basketball and certainly the just the overarching story of no national championships from 2000 on with, with Tom Izzo being the last to do it, maybe this is the year to break out of that. But, you know, we'll see. There's some really good teams left from other conferences, but the Big Ten has had a great season. And you know, we were laughing yesterday that Nebraska and Indiana have like flipped places where the Nebraska basketball team is all of a sudden in the second weekend in Indiana, football is a national champion. That, that is hard to believe for childhood me.
Paulie Fusco
Robbie Hummel, NCAA NBA analyst for NBC. You were second round pick in the draft in 2012. Yeah, I was.
Dan Patrick
Yes, yes. 58.
Paulie Fusco
Did you have an NBA moment like that you like to share?
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I have a good one. So my, this is like the second or third game, you know, I we're playing the Thunder in, in the Target center and Kevin Durant is off to a tough start. Corey Brewer is guarding him and he's doing a good job like Durant. Durant missed some shots that he normally makes early on and he misses one and the ball gets knocked out of bounds. I'm sitting next to Gorgy Dang, who ended up having a really good NBA career, played at Louisville. We're both rookies at the same time. Gorgi makes the mistake of clapping and yelling, good D Brew. And Durant hears him and this is the clean version, but he goes, it wasn't good deep Brew. It was bad fricking shot. Kevin. I was like, man, that's, that's pretty good comeback there. Durant gets the ball, we're up eight points, and he drills a three and stares down the bench the whole way. And we miss. They come back down, same thing. Durant gets the ball, drills another one. So our eight Point lead is now two. And the whole way down, he is tractor beam on Gorgy. Dang, like, literally just staring him down. We miss again. They come down, there's like a foul or a, you know, ball out of bounds. He comes over, and Kevin Durant verbally eviscerates Gorgi. I don't know who you are. I don't know where you played in college. I've never heard of you. You'll. I don't know how you'll ever play in this league. And in my mind, and Gorgy's like, you don't want to know me. You don't want. Like, he doesn't know what to say. Jack Sigma is one of our assistant coaches, the legendary Jack Sigma. He's screaming at Gorgy, stop talking to Kevin Durant. And I'm like, thank God I didn't say anything. Durant gets the ball.
Paulie Fusco
Literally.
Dan Patrick
Step back, fade away. Three drills. It beats his chest of. Man, I'm a bad man. You'll ever forget it. And I'm like, oh, my God. Like, this is a whole nother level. But then you fast forward like a month, and I'm playing, and I will never forget this.
Paulie Fusco
We're.
Dan Patrick
I've, like, moved into the rotation a little bit, and we got some injuries, and we've got some real foul trouble. Corey Brewer gets his second file, and I remember thinking, like, man, if he gets his third, I think it's. I think it's going to be me. And he's Garden Durant. And as soon as I thought that literally file, Corey's coming out. I will never forget looking at the floor and Rick Adam and goes, rob, you got him. And literally I sub in. There's like two and a half minutes to go in the first quarter. And me and Kevin Durant played one on one in front of 17,000. He started bringing the ball up literally every time, clear out ISO. It was like. It was horrifying because you're like, dude, this guy's seven foot tall, two guard, unbelievable player, hall of Fame player top, you know, 10, 15, whatever. And you're just at his mercy. It was terrifying.
Paulie Fusco
Is he unguardable?
Dan Patrick
Yeah, because he can get to his pull up whenever he wants, you know, like, he's. He's just. Whether it's playing pick and roll, getting to the elbows, shooting his pull up. He's. He's an incredible player. I love watching Kevin Durant play. I'm such a fan.
Paulie Fusco
All right, so what do you force him to do?
Dan Patrick
Well, I followed him on a three that was a good start. And then I actually got some stops. But Dan, I promise you it was not because it was good defense. He just missed a couple. But the NBA, like, everybody is so good, you know, like. And I've played all over the world. I played in Russia, I played in Italy, I played in Spain. I played two years in the NBA. But like, just the talent level in the NBA for all 450 guys is truly remarkable when you're there.
Paulie Fusco
Well, you were first team all Big Ten, what, three times?
Dan Patrick
Yeah, yeah. But I blow my knee out twice my junior year and came back as a senior. And I. I certainly was trying to kind of figure my way back physically. And I played my rookie year in Spain and then two years with Minnesota. I played for Giorgio Armani's team in Italy. So we had good uniforms, did a lot of modeling. And then I was. I was cut by the Nuggets. I was last cut. And I went to Moscow and played a year, which was an adventure in itself.
Paulie Fusco
What does adventure mean in Moscow?
Dan Patrick
Well, there's just corruption. There's just rampant corruption throughout the wait, like throwing games. There's probably some of that, like the officiating, I think teams are trying to avoid. Cheska was like the. The best team. They have the biggest budget. You know, everybody's trying to avoid Cheska. That really my best overseas European story. Our team had signed Alexi Schfed, who I. The reason I went, I'm cut by the Nuggets. Alexi was my teammate and I sat with him, really, on all the planes in Minnesota, we'd sit together on the flights. And so when I got cut, this team makes me an offer. And Alexi had left the. I think it was Philly. He was out of the NBA. He goes back. He's the highest paid player in Europe this year. So I talked to him. I'm like, how is it? He's like, yeah, it's great. You know, he's living at home. He's the highest paid guy in Europe. He's shooting like, you know, 20 times a game. So for him it's great. And they signed Jacob Poland, who, if you remember at Kansas State, they got Markel Brown, who was in the NBA for the Nets, and he was out. And then they. They brought him in a guy named E.J. rowland, who played at St. Mary's and then Jeremy Evans from the NBA. So they signed all these NBA guys because their. The team had been relegated from Euroleague to Euro Cup. It's kind of like soccer where you're playing in the Russian League, but you're also playing a second game during the week and you're playing in a Euro cup or your early game. So the way to get back to Euroleague is that you have to either win Euro cup, which we don't, we lose in the quarterfinals in Valencia, or you make the final. So some of the corruption, I'm talking about like teams, if you're the four of the five and you've got Cheska in the semis, there's no way you're going to beat them because they've got the biggest budget. They're kind of like the national team of Russia. So we end up playing our first round series in Siberia, where the two seat, we're in Siberia, we sweep them, and then we play in the semifinals. The team from St. Petersburg, five game series, they've got Trevor and Bachway who played at Minnesota, Aaron White who played at Iowa, and some of these guys swear that game five was fixed. I need to go back and watch and see. But we lose the first two, win the next two. Decisive Game five in St. Petersburg, our owner, who's like an oligarch, comes in the locker room 50 minutes before the game. And at this point I'm like, dude, I'm going to retire. If we lose, I don't care because I want to leave so bad. I just, I'm over this. I hate being here. I'm ready to go home. Owner comes in the locker room and goes, guys, this is the biggest game in franchise history. You, you win tonight, I'll pay each of you a hundred thousand US dollars from my safe. And if you win the final, 250 more. So I went from, I hope we lose. We gotta win. Like, we have to win this game. We end up winning. It's controversial finish. Some of our Russian players who aren't being paid all that much are like hugging on the court. We won the semis, hugging like we won the NBA Finals. The crazy thing though about this story is that a couple days later we have a lunch at the owner's. He's got like a 20 story office building in Moscow and he's got a really nice restaurant on the first floor. And the spread's incredible. Your filet mignon, lobster, whatever you want, they've got it. There's. And the owner literally says like, Joe. And he's kind of like says it laughing, but it's not a joke. He goes, man, the funny thing is I paid the rest to get a fair whistle. So he admits to bribing the refs which I'm sure the other team was doing, too. And then he points to the corner of the room, and he literally says, all right, I got where you guys came from. Let's win the final. We'll do this again. And he lined us up like we were third graders and literally doled out a hundred thousand in cash in bags and just handed them and doled them out 15 times. And little. We all had drivers. My driver was Roman, spoke no English. We could only talk on Google Translate. I get in the car and he's like, what's in the bag? I'm like, oh, we're gonna get carjacked. All of us are gonna get carjacked here. And the craziest thing, Dan, is that we had to go to practice. So there was $1.5 million in cash in the locker room while we practiced. And the next year, some guy, during a game, walked in that same locker room and stole everything. Wallets, money, watches, everything. So, like, luckily, he didn't pick that day, because he would have. He would have left with a good haul. But, yeah, Russia's. There's a lot going on there. A lot going on there.
Paulie Fusco
Talking to Robbie Hummel, TNT CBS basketball analyst. All right, what happens tonight?
Dan Patrick
Well, who's playing when you do the tournament? You're Duke and St. John's who else? We.
Paulie Fusco
Michigan State, Connecticut.
Dan Patrick
Michigan State. Connecticut. Yeah. That'll be interesting because Connecticut has certainly had moments, but they've been so up and down and, you know, for a lot of the other defense was really good, but then they went through a lull and their offense was better. That's about toughness. You know, who can be the tougher team when you play, Tom, as those basketball teams, whether it's when I was playing or when the team Cleaves are playing or in today's era, it's all about rebounding and transition defense. And the funny thing is I can give you the scouting report in 07, and it would be relevant, you know, today in 2026. And for Yukon, Terrence Reed is definitely the X factor. For me, I just think he's one of those guys when he's playing well, they're hard to handle because their guard play is good. Caravan's the ultimate winner. So if Terrace Reed can hang in there against those Michigan State bigs and the wave of bigs they're going to throw at him, that. That would go a long way.
Paulie Fusco
Thanks for sharing. You're doing a great job, and people are noticing how good you've been as an analyst certainly during March Madness. But thank you. We appreciate it. Rob.
Dan Patrick
No problem. Yeah, thanks for having me. Dan. Appreciate it.

Let's see, somebody was asking me if Seattle's going to get the franchise expansion franchise. They still own Sonics. It seems like they would want to, you know, re embrace the Seattle supersonics. But what about Vegas? Because this is truly an expansion team. So what is the name the nickname for Vegas going to be? I don't know if anybody's seen any names out there, but I don't know. I guess you're going to Play off gambling, you're going to play off cards. I don't know.
Tony Fusco
Yeah, Paulie, the Golden Knights, the hockey team. What's that based off of?
Paulie Fusco
Because the owner, I think, went to West Point, and it's about the Golden Knights of West Point.
Tony Fusco
I could see the NBA, even in this gambling era, trying to avoid anything racy, for lack of a better word, with the name of the team. Like the high rollers.
Paulie Fusco
Well, you have the aces of the wnba. Okay, but. And that's a. That's a good. You don't want to be the joke. Somebody suggested the Jokers. I go, no, no. You don't want your team calling. Being called jokers. But then you have to trade for joker and get him in there.
Tony Fusco
You don't want the Las Vegas dealers. That's a lot of.
Paulie Fusco
You don't want the Vegas craps, right. Brought to you by Dude Wipes.
Todd
Got yourself a case of the Vegas craps, huh?
Paulie Fusco
Yeah. Yeah. Todd, you got any names for the Vegas expansion franchise?
Chris
The Dice could do all kinds of things with two dice and light it up and do all kinds of, I think, marketing things with a pair of dice.
Paulie Fusco
All right, the biggest dice. Yes, Marvin.
Marvin
This may be Frisk Fritzy esque. The Show Boys.
Paulie Fusco
The Show Boys.
Tony Fusco
Sounds weird.
Paulie Fusco
That sounds like some creepy website you're on.
Marvin
Stay out of my personal life.
Paulie Fusco
But I was looking over your shoulder.
Chris
Yeah, Todd, the Las Vegas Gentleman's Club. Like, they have the Washington Commanders Club.
Paulie Fusco
We were talking about real names, Todd.
Chris
I think that could be fun, though. But Adam Silver already kind of nixed one of those things recently. Can't do the Magic City thing, so we definitely can't call them the Las Vegas Gentleman's Club.
Paulie Fusco
No, no. Can't do Olympic Garden or anything like that.
Chris
Good times, though.
Tony Fusco
Spearmint Rhino.
Paulie Fusco
Yeah, the Rhinos. Yes, Mark.
Marvin
Maybe something like from one of their old xfl. The Outlaws or something like that. I don't know.
Paulie Fusco
I haven't seen any names.
Tony Fusco
And yes, Paulie, I've got kind of a rando betting site. They have the Mirage, the Jokers, the Outlaws, the Scorpions, the Venom, the Diamonds. The Diamonds.
Paulie Fusco
Yeah, but that. Yeah, that should have been for the Las Vegas A's, right? The Diamonds. Las Vegas Diamonds.
Marvin
Right.
Chris
The Excaliburs.
Paulie Fusco
Thanks. Yes, Marvin, for me and Paulie, more
Marvin
important than anything, team colors. Like, what do you do?
Tony Fusco
Because you can't look like the Brooklyn Nets with black and white. Oh, no one will confuse you because nobody watches the Nets.
Paulie Fusco
But then are the Oakland A's the Vegas A's. Are they going to continue their green and gold colors? I'm guessing the Raiders kept their colors.
Tony Fusco
Yeah, Paulie, based off I got an article from Sports Business Journal, just a speculative article that says they wouldn't be surprised if they went a total different direction with their uniforms, which allows them to do A's throwback weeks and nights like most teams would do.
Paulie Fusco
Yes.
Todd
Part of the thing that's tricky for Las Vegas is a lot of names that would be perfect for them are already taken. So like, you have the magic that would be great for Las Vegas. Already taking the heat. Then the desert. Oh, that's already. The Aces. Well, you already got an Aces. The good names are already taken. You could be like the Neons or something.
Paulie Fusco
Yes.
Chris
Don, can they go into business with the sphere and be the Spheres and do something? Maybe there's something marketing wise they can something there.
Paulie Fusco
Kind of a tough nickname.
Chris
The Spears.
Paulie Fusco
Let's go watch the Spheres. The Outlaws. Yeah.
Chris
The Golden Nuggets. You got the Denver Nuggets. You got the Golden Knights.
Paulie Fusco
The Golden Nuggets. All right, you can do that. I like that. All right. Okay. You're rallying.
Chris
You probably wouldn't have the Golden Nuggets. If you have the Denver Nuggets, though, that would probably be a problem.
Paulie Fusco
Good call, Todd.
Chris
It seemed like you were excited everybody like that.
Paulie Fusco
I did. But you know, it was better than the other suggestions you had.
Chris
So now that I think about, you can't have two Nuggets.
Paulie Fusco
No, you can't.
Chris
I don't even have the Golden Nugget even exists anymore.
Paulie Fusco
All right. Cuba in Arizona. Hi, Cuba. What's on your mind today?
I
So, dp.
Paulie Fusco
Hey, Cuba.
I
Hey, man, just call and give you some corduroy love these haters on you, but even got a couple corduroy hats, man.
Paulie Fusco
Wait a minute. I'm getting. I'm getting criticized for my corduroy?
I
No, I'm giving you love.
Paulie Fusco
Oh, well, that's what I was worried about. Am I getting like social media hate for my corduroy. Baker and Bozeman? Hi, Bake.
I
Happy Friday. And speaking of your corduroy love, listen, I want to fuel that corduroy love with a gorgeous chocolate brown corduroy Levi's jacket. I just emailed the photo of it to Tyler, the moderator, if you want to see it. I'd like. I'd like to offer that jacket up in exchange for a game use ESPN tie. You said you got 75 of them laying around doing nothing. How about a swap?
Paulie Fusco
All right, we'll do that, Baker. Thank you, Zach. And Knoxville. Hi, Zach. Thanks for holding. What's on your mind today?
I
Thanks for taking the call, dp. I always pictured Marvin, you know, with the Jake Moscow jersey on, when he's up there at the Pearly Gates. But I just wanted to ask you about that NBA expansion. We already have quite a few teams that go into the season and remain irrelevant. Do you think that it's a good move to move into expansion right now?
Paulie Fusco
Well, we've talked about that, and we had Tracy McGrady on. He goes, I don't know if we have enough players to expand. And he does make a really good case there. I mean, if you look at some of these rosters and I could give you names, and you'd go, what sport that, you know, they just wouldn't ring. They'd ring hollow. And you'd be like, I have no idea who that is. I follow it. And there are times when I go, I have no idea who that guy is or who he plays for. I do not. But, man, you look at the Money, it's between 7 and $10 billion. This is the entrance fee. And that money will then go to the other owners. The other owners are going to make probably somewhere around, I don't know, 400, $500 million for not doing anything. You imagine you show up one day and you look in your bank account and it's got $450 million and you didn't do anything. Man. Great to be an owner. Chris in Syracuse. Hi, Chris. What's on your mind?
I
Hey, thanks for getting me in, Dan. Hey, I got a few things to throw at you. And also a possible mock headline to be written on your casket. Yeah, I guess Vegas can't go with because of the Chicago Bulls. They can't go with the Pit Bulls either. You were talking about the Pirate center fielders. Non error. Now, MLB says it has to be a physical error, not judgment error. When your judgment tells you to put your glove in a certain spot and the ball bounces off the heel of your glove, that's an error. Just like when your judgment tells you to run forward after a ball instead of backwards running is a physical activity, it's an error. And I have to disagree with Robbie Hummel saying he's never seen a coach only having four players on the floor. Let's not forget about that other Husker coach, the legendary Normandale. And Dan, you guys were talking about having your funeral in the man cave on your beloved basketball court. The casket may read, former Western Kentucky Hilltopper finally passes.
Chris
Nice.
Paulie Fusco
All right. It's Eastern Kentucky. We weren't even Western Kentucky. They were good. They were Eastern Kentucky. That's very good. Thank you, Chris. Caleb Williams has submitted four trademark applications related to the name Iceman, a logo name and silhouettes that mimic Caleb Williams poses. He rolls left, jumps, and completes a pass. So George Gervin, the Iceman, he has a problem with this because he is filed for a trademark. He had iceman and iceman 44. That was his jersey number. So four days after Williams application was filed, George Gervin, his trademark application was also, I guess, submitted, but he's been called the Iceman, and that was first used in 1979. I actually have the Iceman poster, and Ice is. He's sitting on a block of ice and he's. These basketballs, you know, look like they're ice as well. It's great. Great poster. But I sent me that autographed it a couple of years ago. But I guess there is a. A soccer player in Chelsea, right? Satan.
Todd
Yeah, Cole Palmer.
Paulie Fusco
And he's called Iceman.
Todd
Well, no, they'll call him Cold Palmer.
Paulie Fusco
Oh.
Todd
But his celebration was that sort of like, I'm freezing kind of thing because, like, every time he scores a goal, he's like, that was too cold.
Paulie Fusco
Okay, so Caleb is imitating this soccer player, Paul Palmer.
Todd
Yeah.
Paulie Fusco
Okay. So when Palmer scores, he gives you
Todd
the old shivers, like, whoo. And so they call him Cold Punk Bomber.
Paulie Fusco
Okay. I think Chuck Liddell, former MMA fighter. Wasn't he known as Iceman? There's a lot of guys who are laying claim to this naval pilot.
Tony Fusco
Val Kilmer.
Paulie Fusco
Val Kilmer, the original Iceman og Yeah, I believe. What else, Paulie?
Tony Fusco
Actually, the timeline would be George Gervin first.
Paulie Fusco
Okay.
Tony Fusco
The George Gervin's company, Gervin Global Management, thought they had the nickname trademarked already. They found out they never did.
Paulie Fusco
They.
Tony Fusco
The confusion was a death of a business associate who was tasked to do this years ago and he didn't get it done. So when Caleb Williams went in to do this, he had the green light to do it. It was not already trademarked. And when they realized that, they scrambled the Gervin people to Get Iceman and Ice44. Trademark. The nickname was not self given by Caleb. It's kind of the press did it after he did the Cole Palmer thing.
Paulie Fusco
Yeah.
Tony Fusco
And. But he already took the logo and it's kind of making maybe a clothing line out of this or other things.
Paulie Fusco
Yeah, they're talking about jerseys and hats and sports equipment, eyewear, posters, trading cards, sweatshirts. George Gervin is Iceman. Yes.
Todd
I'm looking a little deeper into the George Gervin situation. You know who had the rights to it that was supposed to do it on his behalf and didn't? Alec Baum's parents. Damn it. No, wait, I'm confusing my stories.
Paulie Fusco
Wow. Wow.
Todd
Sorry.
Paulie Fusco
Yes. Yes.
Tony Fusco
Okay, this is the question for the room. If you were the judge in this case and had to decide, how would you make your decision?
Paulie Fusco
I would say Iceman. You're the original Iceman. You get it? Court adjourned. But he did make. He thought he had trademarked it. It's not like he. He all of a sudden go, oh, my gosh, I got to trademark that. He. He did think that he was filing the trademark papers. There was a death, and they weren't able to. He did not realize that. I. I would. I would give it to Iceman. Yes.
Tony Fusco
Paulie, Some people use nicknames of people from the past, but if. If I refer to you by your nickname, and it's more well known than your actual name, I think it's yours. Tiger Woods. No one calls him Eldrick. No one says, hey, George Gervin was on TV today. You say, I saw Ice Gervin on a TV show. Yeah, I think that would be the default judgment. No one goes, iceman Williams of the Bears. Yeah, no one says that yet.
Paulie Fusco
Yeah, but Gervin has. You know, he's got some kind of documentation. He's got a poster that says Iceman on it. I would just bring the poster to court, find him. I'm saying, here it is. That there's me. Yeah. See, I do.
Todd
I think there's something, too. If you bring all of them into court and line them up and ask the jury which one of them is Iceman, and they point to George German, they're like, okay, you. That's clearly. You win. You get the patent.
Paulie Fusco
You do a. You do a focus group, and you bring the focus group in and say, all right, you line up Chuck Liddell, you line up Ice Girvin, you line up Caleb Williams, you go, okay, who is Iceman? And you point. Now, if I'm. If I'm Gervin, I'm wearing my uniform. I'd be wearing my San Antonio spurs jersey.
Marvin
Yes, Marvin, that said Ice on the back.
Paulie Fusco
Yes. Yes.
Marvin
It doesn't say Ice on the Chicago Bears uniform.
Paulie Fusco
No, it doesn't.
Marvin
One is Iceman. The other one is a guy that pretends to be cold.
Paulie Fusco
I would. I would come in and do a finger roll. Like I would do the little girl and finger roll there. Maybe grow his hair back, get a fro back. Yes, Paulie.
Tony Fusco
It's like if I said, oh, I saw. I was watching NFL Network and LT was being interviewed. I'm referring to who?
Paulie Fusco
Well, that's different because that could be Lawrence Taylor or Danian Tomlinson.
Tony Fusco
Right.
Paulie Fusco
But those are just initials.
Tony Fusco
I wonder if either trademark that for clothes or merchandise.
Paulie Fusco
I don't know. But Abdul Carter also wanted to be called LT as well. It's weird. He wanted his number and he'd like to be called LT as well. I think he's changing his number again. Is Abdul Carter changing his number or did I make that up
Marvin
to 56?
Paulie Fusco
No, no, no, no. He can't do 56. But I don't know, for some reason I thought maybe he was changing. He was changing something. All right, let me take a break. It's time for sausage and peppers. We also have our little batting helmets with ice cream in it. The nacho cheese dip. We have crab. Crab dogs. Is that what it is? Oh, boy. You guys don't come in sick on Monday or with a stomach ache. All right, Todd.
Chris
I will try to avoid that.
Paulie Fusco
All right. Everything in moderation.
Chris
That's the problem. It's very easy to say those words.

Guaranteed Human.
In this episode, Dan Patrick and his crew recap the latest action from March Madness, dissect college basketball storylines, and riff on the evolving landscape of NCAA sports, including NIL, coaching changes, and the NBA’s expansion plans. A highlight is Dan’s chat with former NBA player and current analyst Robbie Hummel, who shares wild stories from his pro career and analyzes key college matchups. As usual, the team mixes sports insights with signature banter and pop culture references.
Starts at 20:29
On NIL keeping players in college:
