We'll talk about the college football playoffs. The bookmakers don't think these are going to be competitive games. This according to DraftKings this morning. Indiana against Notre Dame at Notre Dame. Indiana is getting seven and a half. SMU is getting nine at Penn State, Clemson getting 11 at Texas and then Tennessee getting seven and a half against Ohio State. By the way, odds to win the national title. We have co favorites to win the national title. Oregon and Texas are your co favorites this morning, followed by Georgia, Ohio State and then Penn State. If I would have said to you in September, hey, Arizona State's going to be in, Clemson's going to be in. SMU is going to be in. Boise State's going to be in. Indiana is going to be in. You'd go, wait, basketball. No, football. Because Clemson got roughed up early. Remember that? Georgia roughed him up and then we moved on from Clemson. Well, all you have to do is win your conference. I mean, I don't know if Clemson's any good, but they won their conference, so they're in. SMU survived and I say survived so they could get in because they scored 17 points in the fourth quarter. If they do not score those 17, if they score seven, I don't think they're in the playoffs and I will sit corrected. I didn't think the committee was going to leave Alabama out and I'm not alone in that, but it was an interesting conversation they had to have with Alabama didn't get in. Why didn't they get in? They talk about strength of schedule. Well, when you get embarrassed, you got embarrassed against Vandy, you got embarrassed against Oklahoma. Just win. That's what this is all about. Arizona State, I think was picked for last in the Big 12. They're good team. They roughed up Iowa State. Boise State gets a buy. Indiana in at Notre Dame. But we're going to be talking about this and I think we had to go through this process for one year now. I think they're going to tweak what. What you have to do where the seedings are first round by. This is where you just say, okay, let's see how this plays out. Let's see where some of the, you know, sensitive points are that we can correct. And I still maintain if you're going to do 12 teams, you win your conference, you get in. But that doesn't mean that you get a first round by. Boise State shouldn't get a first round by. Arizona State shouldn't get a first round by. I think it should be when your conference now we start to see this. That's what happens with the basketball tournament. You're not guaranteed a number one seed because you win the ACC or the sec. And I think that's what they need to do is Boise State. I'm glad they're in Arizona State, I'm glad they're in. But then after that, I think you got to be fair to strength of schedule. And that's where I think that if you go with rankings, then I think you get a truer sense of how good teams are. What they did during the course of a year and if you had two losses, maybe three, what was your strength of schedule? This is what I worry about. And you already have athletic directors talking about this. Well, we're going to really look at, you know, out of conference scheduling because there is. There's no reason to do something out of conference and run the risk of losing. If you lose more than two games, you're not getting in or it's really going to be difficult. Clemson didn't play anybody. Clemson won the acc. That's all you have to do. Arizona State, just win your conference. Boise State, win your conference, you're in. But then after that, I think you need to have receding or seating. I can't be giving these schools at first round by. I don't think that's fair to the other conferences and the strength of schedule that they may have. You know, it's going to be tweaked, it's not perfect. And maybe eventually we get to the. What are we doing? Why don't we just make this a pro model? And there's going to be a certain number of schools that are going to play and there'll be schools maybe get relegated. Whatever you want to do with it, we're heading that way. It's almost like when we had one versus two, and then we said, how about two more teams? Is that a lot? And then all of a sudden, you know, we had co national champs a long, long time ago. I mean, co national champ. Do you imagine if we had co national champs now? Hey, Georgia Tech and Colorado or co national champs, huh? But we had that. There's so much more attached to this, so many more people, so much more money attached to this. And that's why I think they'll get around to tweaking this a little bit more. And next year you'll probably have something along the lines of what I've been talking about. I have somebody who is close to the committee and they've told me that. This, of course, is a topic of conversation, whether it gets enacted next year, because I was told, Hey, 14, maybe next year, but probably going to be the following season where you'll have 14 schools instead of 12. Let's see how this plays out. It looks fun. It sounds fun. Would I have liked Alabama and South Bend? Yes, I would have. That would have been great. Tennessee. I love that. Against Ohio State. I mean, there's matchups where you go, all right, like Clemson's in, you know, and you get Texas, but they're scoring. It almost feels like Oregon would been better off losing the Big Ten title game. I get. I didn't think that they treated Oregon fairly there. And Penn State. They look pretty good. They look pretty good. That's the first time where I go, okay, competitive, neutral field, and maybe they will be a tough out. But I think the first round by bothers people probably more than anything else involved in this because you're looking at Boise State and Arizona State and you're going, really? Yeah. But that's the system this year. All right. 8, 7, 7, 3 DP show email address DP dan patrick.com Twitter handle the DP Show Good morning. A
Well, we'll probably start with who had.
B
The best weekend, who had the worst weekend.
A
It's one of our favorites on Monday.
B
Okay. You want to start positive? Yeah. Okay. Okay. How about Puka Nakua? Damn, he had a great weekend. Yeah, he did. He just. He's different. Like, they're receivers that are fast, they're ones that are quick. He just is tough to bring down. That catch he had on the sideline was unbelievable. Yeah, it's almost when you watch and you're going, and, you know, Cooper cup has been unbelievable. But Puka Nakua, that's the guy. He's the guy. And you watch him and you go, he's not fast. He's just physical. And all of a sudden, you know, you're pulling in 12 catches all of a sudden, you know, I mean, Buffalo was back and forth with this, and they realized, hey, do we have any defense here? Because that's what the Rams have. Offense. They have a whole lot of offense. But I loved what I saw with Josh Allen. I mean, when you throw for three and you run for three, that's never been done before. And no sacks. Here is Sean McVeigh, the Rams coach, talking about the greatness of Josh Allen.
A
That's an excellent team. I mean, do you see Josh Allen is a. Is an alien. Some of the stuff that he can do and the things that he can create, we knew he was capable of that. He's shown that. It's why he Is, you know, as well respected and regarded in this league as he is. It's all deserved and earned, but our guys found a way to just make enough plays to be able to come out on top.
B
Yeah, they did. It was fun. That was back and forth. Really enjoyed that. All right, so you have Puka, Nakua. Who else? And you know what else to a Puka, he.
A
He's been hurt a lot this year, but he's clearly the real deal or, like a real dealer, you know, in that they don't.
B
The whole.
A
Well, you get a little bit of tape on this guy, you figure out how to. Nobody's figured that out yet.
B
It's true, you know. Yeah. How about. You know who had a pretty good weekend, believe it or not?
A
What about Aaron Rodgers?
B
Okay, I'm listening. He actually. He did a couple of things that you were like, hey, there we go. You mean the things he's supposed to do. Well, yes. He threw for 300 yards. Okay. And they lost. They did. They did lose, but it's a close game. This is why you have Aaron Rodgers. Close games. You can't blame this one on him.
A
That feels like a win. You can't blame this one on Aaron Rogers.
B
Is he. Is he blaming everybody else? He's like, you can't. You can't blame me.
A
Yeah, I hope so.
B
You know who had a good weekend? And he lost. And he lost the previous week. And he lost the previous week. Bryce Young. Oh, yeah, right. Seaton was saying Carolina. You got to feel pretty good about that. Bryce Young looks comfortable. They almost knock off the Chiefs. They almost knocked off the Eagles, and it felt like they had a chance. And that's a win in my book, especially where they've been.
A
Dave Canales, you're the head coach there. You're like, hey, it started out abysmal. It started out worse than we could have possibly imagined. But it's turned around. You're competitive.
B
You have a good weekend.
A
A competitive weekend against a clear super bowl contender.
B
Yeah, that works. Yeah. And then. And then you did it against the Chiefs where you had a chance.
A
Yeah.
B
Yes. Paulie.
A
I'll throw in Brock Purdy. 20 of 25. 3, 25, 2 touchdowns, almost a perfect quarterback rating. They smoked the Bears. He's looking at a contract in this off season.
B
I know they're. I thought maybe you do that Baker Mayfield kind of contract. And the insiders, Ian Rapoport was saying, no, no, full boat. That they're looking at a full boat for Brock Purdy. How about Sam Darnold? Sam Darnold, five touchdown passes. All he does is win. I like how the Vikings, everybody's going. Vikings are geniuses. They got Sam Darnold. Are they really brilliant? Hey, they. You're not getting credit for Sam Darnold. You're not. You drafted J.J. mcCarthy. Kirk D. Cousins got rid of him and Sam Darnold was going to be a backup. Now, he's played well, but I don't know if I can go man. That organization, they're two steps ahead of everybody else. I don't think you were planning on this, but Sam Darnold, he's. He's been great at times. He's been great. And Kirk D. Cousins has not. He is not. And you know, I do like Kirk D. Cousins, but this isn't personal when I say they should bench him. I would like to See Michael Penix Jr III Get a chance go in there. He can't be worse. It's. It'd be almost impossible to be worse. And I would put him in there and maybe you see something and let's say he struggles, okay? At least he got a taste this year to get ready for next year. Yes, Paulie.
A
A month ago, Kirk Cousins had just finished winning five of six games. His last two games were on national tv. To end October, they beat Tampa and beat Dallas. He had four touchdowns and then three touchdowns. The next week, no picks. In the last four weeks, he's thrown eight interceptions and no touchdowns. He undid it in a month.
B
The Falcons are the first team in NFL history to have a four game span where they didn't have a passing touchdown. They threw over at least eight interceptions while allowing at least eight passing touchdowns and getting zero interceptions. Woo. Ow. Stat of the day. Start of the day. Start of the day.

Created a first of its kind broadcast for the PGA Championship.
B
Using a custom built T Mobile Private 5G network to power the live production, they deployed a 5G wireless camera system throughout the event. The network's speed combined with Sony's innovative ultra low latency video codec allowed for seamless, high quality footage without disruption. With that innovative approach, CBS gave broadcasters.

The tools they need to do what they do best. Take their coverage to entirely new places. These innovations will shape the way live sports are covered moving forward.

And for that, T Mobile congratulates Sony.

The Mets have shelled out $765 million for Juan Soto. I don't know if it takes talent to like when somebody says, wow, okay, congratulations. That I think their owner Steve Cohen said, look, I'm going to pay more than anybody else. And that's music to Scott Boris ears. That's all we want. It's like, is this the right place for my guy or the right amount of money for my guy? And it's the right amount of money for his guy. So Juan Soto is going to the Mets. $765 million for 15 years. Congratulations. I think. 765. Yes. Marvin.
A
Oh, just ready to applaud him.
B
Oh, you were his parents, his siblings. What's life going to be like in sports in the year 2040?
A
Wow.
B
What's it going to be like? So when this contract is up By Juan Soto, 20:40 Guys are going to get a billion. Who's getting a billion dollars? Baseball players. Billion, I would think, because you already got up to 700 now. 765. 765. Do I hear 780? 780? 780, 780. Do I hear $800 million? Yes.
A
Crazy is that the person who's going to get a billion dollars is probably like three or four years old right now.
B
Well, you're going to have $100 million a year, basketball player. That's going to happen first. Football players, quarterbacks are probably going to get in the next five years. Maybe you get to 75 million, I'm guessing. But basketball, the NBA, it just do the math. And I still think Shay Gilgis, Alexander or Luca Doncic are going to be the first $100 million a year basketball players. Baseball, we're getting close to, like, not necessarily how much you make per season, but it's how much you make the totality of that contract. 877.3dpshow email address dp dan patrick.com twitter handle it DP show the Chiefs continue to do it. I don't think they're a great team, but they're great at winning. They know what to do, when to do it. And there's a certain calm that you have. There's certain athletes, certain teams, certain coaches that they, they, they prepare for this. They're good. They're just good at being able to kind of like block everything out. And look at the last play with Mahomes and Kelsey. They've been doing this a long time. Nothing fancy about it. It's just Mahomes has this ability to make a subtle move when he feels pressure. Subtle move, get out of the way. He finds Kelsey. And then you kick a field goal. Here's Andy Reed after the game.
A
I have trust in Matthew, so I was good with where we were.
B
Percentages are pretty high.
A
I know we've, we've won a game in that same situation on the opposite.
B
End, so I get it.
A
But he's, he's a solid kicker, so.
B
I wasn't too worried about it. Yeah, you just, you have Mahomes, you just start there. Nobody has him. Josh Allen was wonderful against the Rams. Incredible. But this Kansas City defense is good and they, they keep you in the game. And then when it comes down to the final two minutes, as we saw with Brady, as you saw at times with Montana, it was like, oh, you're in trouble. And that's the feeling. I can't imagine what that, that's like for the defense when they're going, God, you want your offense? Just score a touchdown, just score, make it tough. Now they have a chance. And then you go out there and you know, he just looking for one little moment and he got it. And they won again. And it's not by accident. I mean, they've done this. They continue to do this. And the game has turned into. They're all one score games. It feels like 99 games have been decided by six points or less. That's the most through week 14 in NFL history. Yeah, they continue to set that record every single week. These games come down to one score. And that's why one moment, one mistake, and then you're done. And the great teams take advantage. They seize that moment. They embrace that moment. They love that moment. Yes.
A
Mark, if you're a Chargers fan, did you feel good about that yesterday? Like now going, if we make the playoffs, we can really make some noise when we get in there.
B
I thought they were going to win the game prior to the start. I thought they're going to win this game and you have your moment there. But the Chargers got to get to that point where they can win these games. Where Justin Herbert says, I got it. Jim Harbaugh says, hey, we got this. They had their opportunity and they're still a dangerous team. It's kind of interesting though how Justin Herbert's being used. Look at some of these quarterbacks. The Bills don't want Josh Allen throwing the ball 35 times. There's so much better when he does it. Jalen Hertz with the Eagles, he didn't really do much damage. Justin Herbert, he does. You know, he's going to. He threw a lot more than I thought he was going to. But you kind of want to get that balance. We're seeing. These offenses want to be a little more balanced now. I don't know if they're going to be like that in the playoffs, but they do look for balance here. The Ravens run the ball, you know all these teams. The Eagles are probably a run first team now Buffalo runs the ball really well. Like this is what teams want to get. Give me balance here a little bit. Or maybe it's 60, 40, because it wasn't that long ago when it was probably 80, 20 passing to running. And your running back was a guy who caught passes. Yes, Paulie, two years ago, Justin Herbert.
A
Had 699 passing attempts. This year he's on pace for 530, same number of games.
B
Yeah, they want that because that means that you can control the clock. You are probably ahead in the game. And I think that's really the important part of all of this. You're getting towards the postseason now. Can you do what you've done in the postseason and with Kansas City, as much as they're not a great team, but having that ability to win, who else game on the line, what other team do you go, they can be as good as Kansas City. And the answer is nobody. Truly nobody. I can, I trust. Jalen hurts in that moment. He's going to make that big play. Josh Allen, is he going to make that big play? Justin Herbert, Jordan Love, Jared Goff, there's one Mahomes, that's it. Because he has shown that he can do that. These other players, you know, Jared Goff has gotten to a Super bowl, an NFC title game. Jordan Love has Played well last year in the postseason. Josh Allen, we've seen him play well up until he doesn't play well. You know, Joe Burrow's not going to be in the playoffs. Tua, by the way, is playing really well. I watched a lot of that game with the jets and he looks really. It. This is going to sound like it's not a compliment. He looks efficient. Like it. There's just an efficiency there and spreading the wealth around. Russell Wilson Jr. III played well, although I'm watching. And Jameis throws a touchdown pass and I'm like, okay. And Nate Burleson comes on to give the update from cbs. He's like, you know something about Jamis is must see tv just like Jerry Springer. And speaking of Jerry, Jerry Judy. With a touch I go, okay, all right. Now let me see the next time he gets the ball because I can pretty much guarantee James Winston's going to throw an interception. And bingo bango bongo, there you go. He had two, two interceptions and two touchdown passes.
A
One for me, one for you.
B
He's a sharer.
A
He's a carer.
B
Yes, he is. Yes. Marvin.
A
So he still hasn't been delivered from those pick sixes.
B
No, he is not. No, he is not. He has fall going back to Mahomes.
A
And winning the mvp. It's if he ever wins it again, it probably won't be stats. Two years ago he had 41 touchdowns. Last year in 16 games, 27 touchdowns, 14 picks for him. That's below average. This year he's on Pace for 27 touchdowns and 14 picks.
B
Yeah, yeah. I think those days are gone of, you know, these guys throw in 40 touchdown passes. And I go back, you know, year two, he threw 50 touchdown passes. Second year in the league, first year starting, 50 touchdown passes. I mean that's like Dan Marino. His second year they went to the Super Bowl. All right, how about some phone calls? Best and worst of the weekend Vince in Austin. Vince, welcome back.
A

I did that once before I had to bring my computer into the shop.
B
Yeah, yeah, don't do that, Vince. I think you should do a blueberry pie. I'm allergic to blueberries.
A
Got you there. My favorite is key lime or lemon meringue.
B
You can do that too, but the lemon will burn a little bit there. Just saying. But you. You owe Marvin that. You called him out. And I'm glad you called in to deliver. Yes. Seaton. Yeah, you want to be careful with the citrus pies. Yeah, don't leave them on too long. They burn. Yes. Yes. And maybe you can get cherry Pie to come over and smash you with a pie, Vince.
A
This is a family show, guys.
B
Come on. Thank you, Vince. Make it rain cherry pie. Randy in Idaho. Hi, Randy. What's on your mind today? Best and worst of the weekend. That Ram Bill game. Very exciting. Worse, the officiating. In the Ram Bill game, they lost. They lost 11 seconds. There was an offensive PI in the first half that was atrocious. And if anyone can explain to me how that wasn't holding by Cooper cup on the Rams final touchdown is beyond me. I'm a high school football official and holding a lot of times is positioning. Cooper cup gets lazy and he wraps his arms, both arms around the defender out in front of the officials at the point of attack. That's holding. Bad officiating in that game. Randy, what's it like to deal with high school parents? It almost makes you not want to officiate. The lower you go, the worse it is. Like junior high parents standing on the sidelines screaming, and they have no idea what they're talking about. And that's why we have a shortage of officials nationwide. What's the worst it ever got? We got escorted out of a rivalry games parking lot by police. And I think it was like a 32 point game. So I guess we had a big outcome or a big impact on the outcome. The team lost by 32 points, but parents wanted to kill us. Well, why did you want to be an official to begin with? It's kind of a bug. I did baseball for about 35 years, and I got into football about 25 years ago. And if you do it, it's addictive. It's a blast. You work with Some good guys. The atmosphere is fun. And you kind of have to go back to, hey, maybe we're helping you sports a little bit by doing this. Well, you are. And thanks for doing it. And thanks for calling in, Randy. It's tough. I remember doing little league baseball, and then I did Legion ball, and I was an umpire. And you would have parents stand right. Right on the fence. They'd be yelling right behind you. The batting cage, batting area. They'd be right there and they would be pressed up against that. They'd be yelling at you, and they would be sitting, that's a ball. How can you call that? You know, like it was. I had to run somebody one time and I said, you're out of here. He said, says, who? I said, me. And he goes, what are you going to do about it? I said, I'm going to forfeit the game. Go ahead. So I said, all right, I'm going to. And the guy goes, all right, all right, I'll leave. All right, I'll leave. So he goes down first baseline, and he's just outside of the fence. And I can still hear him because he didn't. He even said, you're kicking me out of the ballpark, right? I said, yes. And so he just went to the outskirts and was still yelling. And I'm thinking, I'm getting paid like, I don't know, $4 an hour. You know, it's just not worth it. It's not. And having a father who used to yell at officials during my basketball games, I understand it. It's tough, thankless job. And the fact that you have to be escorted by police out of a parking lot. They should not let parents go. They should say, we're going to make the game available for you to watch it after. The kids are usually fine. It's the parents. Yeah, Paulie.
A
I went to youth game a couple months ago, and this PA announcer goes, welcome to blank blank whatever. Please be courteous to officials, blah, blah, blah. Do not heckle the players. And if you did play professional basketball, then you can tell the refs what they're doing. Please stand up. If you played in the NBA, nobody stands up. And everyone laughed. It was pretty snarky. Check out David Pollack College Football on YouTube. Also David's new children's book, the Won't Quit Kid, now available online@bravebooks.com former All American at Georgia, formerly of ESPN College Game Day. Kind enough to join us again. David. Good to see you. When the final rankings came out, the playoff matchups came out, you thought, what.
A
Is Oregon the number one seed or Georgia? That's the first thing when you saw the finalized bracket was, man, Oregon's got a tough row of hoe for a team that was undefeated, that looked like the best team all year long. And you look at their side and if I'm starting to look at teams that I think have the talent to get hot and to win this thing, Ohio State, Tennessee, Texas, all on their side. And so if I'm Oregon, I probably was a little bit frustrated from that. And then obviously the SMU Bama debate being settled, going to smu.
B
Okay, what did you think about that decision?
A
Well, here's the thing, man, I get a little bit frustrated and I know Bama fans are great fans and they should be great fans. They've had a lot to cheer about. And I do understand how you point to the wins and you say we have better wins than smu, but we also have to point to the losses. And we got to realize that you got two losses to six and six teams and you got beat by 21 to a six and six team. And so while I do understand that they played better competition, got more wins, I also don't understand that they got dominated by a poor team late in the season. They were very up and down throughout the season without a lack of consistency. And SMU was really consistent and then lost in a championship game. And the committee also showed us too, the way they ranked people like they they did not hurt anybody for playing in a championship game. They have in years past. This year you could tell Texas didn't get hurt. They still got a huge ranking. They still got the three seed overall. So Penn State, same thing. They didn't drop people off the face of the earth because of a conference championship loss.
B
What would you tweak going into next season, Dan?
A
It makes my head hurt when I see the rankings and then the seatings being different. Like I just need it to all be one. I don't need all of this numbers stuff. I'm not that bright. I don't want to think that hard. I think the best team should be on the. They should be seated 1 through 12. If we're going to stay at 12 and see them 1 through 12 and then give them the best matchup and the best path going forward. But the seatings with the rankings, you know, it's just frustrating. I think everybody would get away with or do away with the preseason stuff probably more and more because we have preconceived notions going into the season that don't turn out to be true with the ranked wins sometimes that were very fraudulent. But also we'll change one other thing, Dan. Like I need more interconference matchups. So I need to get rid of some of these cupcakes. And I need the ACC to play. Every team in the ACC needs to play one team in the SEC. Every team in the SEC needs to play one team in the Big Ten. Every team in the ACC needs to play one Team in the Big 12. So now when we're doing this crossover game and this strength of schedule game and who would beat who game, we have more information and more data points that go into it that can help us make more informed decisions.
B
I've been suggesting since this format started is if you win your conference, you're in. I'm fine with that. It's like the NCAA Tournament with March Madness. If you win the sec, that doesn't mean you're number one seed. You just get in the tournament, you're going to have a pretty high seed. So Boise State winning its conference here, Arizona State winning their conferences, you're in. That doesn't mean you get a first round buy. Let's be fair to everybody. Have Vegas give you their odds. And then once you're in and then we seed you, we have one through 12 and then you have your matchup. So whoever is one, if you have Oregon at one and you have Clemson at 12, that's your first round matchup. Or they get a buy for the first four. You know, see, you know, first four ranked teams I'm okay with all of that. I don't think it's that difficult to figure this out moving forward.
A
We're going to make everything difficult. That's what, that's what we're going to do. I mean, we even made the head to head difficult. Like, you know, when you're starting to diagnose, you know, Bama, South Carolina, Ole Miss, and you're starting to do that game between those three, we were talking it and like everybody's banging the drum for South Carolina. They had a great season, Dan, an awesome season, but you lost the ball teams. Like that's part of the criteria. The criteria very much stipulates it's head to head and then common opponents, which, when you went with Bama and Ole Miss, they had a lot of common opponents and Ole Miss quite honestly fared better against them. But yeah, I think the committee maybe a little more transparency there. I think you would take that too, Dan, wouldn't you?
B
I would, but college football loves a mess, though. David. Yeah, if this was clean, there's no debate like they, they want this to be debated. They're. They're okay with being criticized. We're not allowed to see what goes on in those meetings, so.
A
But at least we're debating. At least we're debating 12. The 12th, the 13th, 14th team versus 4, 5 and 6 and an FSU who was undefeated getting left out. So that makes you feel a heck of a lot better. You're leaving out a team that's. That's going to bang their chest. They got three losses. Like, that's not. We're not feeling sorry for anybody with three losses.
B
He's David Pollock, the former all American linebacker. Georgia used to be with ESPN's College Game Day. You can see David Pollock College Football on YouTube. How many teams can win the national title?
A
Man, that's a great question. I think I would go with confidently. I would go with four. I think there's four teams that could win it. Actually, I go with five because I, and I know people are going to say this to me like Notre Dame's never done anything and they're going to push back. But I just, I like the dominance that I've seen from Notre Dame. I like the attitude. I think they know exactly who they are, which I think there's a lot of teams in here that we don't really know who they are. So the one side I'll go Georgia and, and Notre Dame. On the other side, again, this is why the bracket's harder. I'll Go Oregon. I think Tennessee could win it. I think Ohio State could win it. And I'm not there on Texas just because of their offense, but I think with their defense, with their defense being so elite, I think it'll keep it in it. But their offense has been so, I mean, so strange to have a SARC team that's not great on offense. But I guess that's six. Four up top, two down low.
B
Okay. Should it be held against Georgia that Carson Beck got injured? And now, now, granted his backup is a five star recruit, but we did this to Florida State. I've already heard from Florida State fans. Oh, yeah, Are you going to penalize Georgia now? It's 12 teams. If it's four, I don't know if Georgia's in, like, I don't know how these things would have played out like that. But did the committee penalize Georgia in any way that they may not have their best quarterback going forward?
A
I think the difference between FSU and Georgia to me is Georgia clearly looked better with their backup quarterback. FSU looked like a train wreck on offense. So that's where I would say FSU's defense still looked elite. They still won the ACC. They were still great. Georgia's defense still looked elite. But I would argue by watching that game the second half, Georgia's offense went like this as opposed to off a cliff. Cliff with fsu. So I think that probably goes into it as well.
B
And I know you play defense and watching these games this weekend, like the NFL was violent. It's not as violent as college football. It's just not. I mean, it feels like they let you play a little bit more. You get away. I know they have targeting, but damn, that Texas game. I mean, holy smokes, David, that hit.
A
Near the goal line was outstanding too. I mean, like, listen, I don't. We can debate whether that's targeting, Dan. Like it's overtime and you are trying to score inside of my five. I'm taking your lid off. I'm doing whatever is necessary to keep you out of my end zone. But I think the biggest difference when I was in it, man, like the passion and adrenaline and the hatred is a little bit stronger at the college level. When I was in the NFL, I remember being around piles and they're kind of like holding you up. Like, hey, don't get tangled up. Don't get in the pile. I'm like, what?
B
What?
A
So I think it is, it is definitely a different game. And, and listen, everybody complained. Dan, when we went to, when we talked about Nil. And we talked about transfer portal and everybody got upset and I get it. But because of that we have more parody in the game of college football than we've ever had. Nobody's going anymore to sit behind at big time schools and be developed. They're going to get a paycheck. And so the talent is spread out more. The dominance of the teams aren't as big as they used to be. And so I think it's even more intense every week and more hatred than some of the rivalries obviously being there every single year.
B
What if Ohio State loses to Tennessee?
A
Oh boy. You know, it's interesting to hear Kirk on the broadcast the other day talk about, you know, the Ohio State and if, if they start slow, the fans jumping on top of them and booing and there's just, it's just crazy with the ryan day because 47 and 1 in the Big Ten. 47 and 1, but 1 and 4 versus Michigan and that has just been absolutely his kryptonite and he's had no answer for it. And even Michigan and Dan, it's not hardball because he's gone. Like, it's not all those players that got drafted because he's gone. It's not Connor Stallions because he's gone. Like it's, it's running out of things on the other side that continue to beat you. So if I'm an Ohio State fan, I get the frustration. I know he's been great. But yeah, first round loss to Tennessee, which could happen because Tennessee's a really, really good football team. I don't know what the heck it looks like in Columbus.
B
How rough was the year for Kayla DeBoer at Alabama?
A
You know, it's interesting because if we're going to be fair, and I always want to be fair, there's so many players that left. Like, this is not the same team Nick Saban had from a talent standpoint. Like guys took off left and right once they found out that Nick Saban was leaving and was retiring. So his talent isn't as great as it was. But I think the inconsistencies in the up and down and I think what you thought with Caitlin DeBoer you got was an offensive genius who would score a bunch of points. So to have them score, you know, the second last game of the season against Oklahoma, to score three points and get beat by 21, like that's not acceptable. If you're a Bama fan, not going to the playoff is one thing, but losing to Vandy, losing to Oklahoma penalties, Palooza offense not taking off like you should. So I think there's going to be frustration. I think this helps recruiting from a other standpoint because the negative recruiting is going to pile on like crazy. So I definitely don't think he came in. I'm not going to give him an A. I don't think he failed either. But you know, somewhere in there was a C. Cause it was a kind of a, it's kind of a below average season for Alabama.
B
He gets one of these. That's it.
A
One of these what seasons? Yeah, maybe two at the very most. Two. But yeah, you're right because this is not Alabama. Like, this is not their standard and who they are. So yeah, it's not going to be a, a long leash for an Alabama coach that has a lot of talent, a lot of resources in the history of that program.
B
Good to talk to you as always, David. Thanks for joining us.

Podcast Summary: The Best of The Dan Patrick Show
Host/Author: iHeartPodcasts and Dan Patrick Podcast Network
Release Date: December 9, 2024
In this curated episode titled "The Best of The Dan Patrick Show," host Dan Patrick brings together highlights from various engaging segments, focusing primarily on sports analysis, especially college football playoffs, NFL team performances, and insightful discussions with guests and listeners. The episode seamlessly blends expert commentary with listener interactions, offering a comprehensive look into the current sports landscape with Dan's signature humor and perspective.
Timestamp: 02:25 - 08:55
Dan Patrick dives deep into the evolving landscape of the college football playoffs, sharing insights into the bookmakers' perspectives and the potential competitiveness of the upcoming games.
Playoff Odds and Seedings:
Dan references DraftKings odds, highlighting matchups such as Indiana vs. Notre Dame and SMU vs. Penn State. He points out the unpredictability and surprises in the selections this season.
"If I would have said to you in September, hey, Arizona State's going to be in, Clemson's going to be in. SMU is going to be in. Boise State's going to be in. Indiana is going to be in. You'd go, wait, basketball. No, football." (02:50)
Critique of Current Selection Process:
Dan expresses skepticism about the fairness of the current playoff selection, especially concerning teams like Alabama being left out despite their historical performance and strength of schedule.
"Why didn't they get in? They talk about strength of schedule. Well, when you get embarrassed, you got embarrassed against Vandy, you got embarrassed against Oklahoma. Just win. That's what this is all about." (05:10)
Suggestions for Improvement:
Dan proposes a more transparent seeding process, akin to the NCAA Tournament's approach, where winning a conference secures a spot but does not guarantee a top seed. He emphasizes the need for interconference matchups to provide better data for selection committees.
"If you win your conference, you are in. That doesn't mean you get a first-round bye. Let's be fair to everybody. Have Vegas give you their odds." (07:15)
Timestamp: 08:55 - 22:55
Dan shifts focus to the NFL, analyzing team performances, quarterback efficiencies, and playoff potentials.
Kansas City Chiefs and Josh Allen:
The discussion highlights the Chiefs' strategic prowess and Josh Allen's exceptional performance against the Rams.
"Josh Allen is an alien. Some of the stuff that he can do and the things that he can create, we knew he was capable of that." (10:09)
Chargers and Offensive Strategies:
Dan evaluates the Chargers' gameplay balance, emphasizing the importance of a balanced offense in controlling the clock and maintaining competitiveness.
"These offenses want to be a little more balanced now. I don't know if they're going to be like that in the playoffs, but they do look for balance here." (25:00)
Quarterback Performances:
A critical look at quarterbacks like Aaron Rodgers, Bryce Young, Brock Purdy, Sam Darnold, and Kirk Cousins. Dan discusses their recent performances, contract speculations, and potential impacts on their teams.
"Aaron Rodgers threw for 300 yards. They lost, but it's a close game. This is why you have Aaron Rodgers. Close games. You can't blame this one on him." (10:58)
Defensive Strengths:
Emphasis on the defensive capabilities of teams like Buffalo and their ability to keep games tight, illustrating the importance of strong defensive plays in determining game outcomes.
"That game has turned into, they're all one-score games. It feels like 99 games have been decided by six points or less." (22:55)
Timestamp: 08:55 - 36:23
Listeners Vince and Randy share their perspectives on the weekend's sports highlights, offering personal anecdotes and engaging in playful banter with Dan.
Vince's Take on Texas Longhorns:
Vince humorously expresses frustration over the Texas Longhorns' performance, particularly their loss to the UConn Huskies in the SEC championship game.
"Marvin got worked by the two-time defending champion UConn Huskies. Oh my gosh." (29:40)
Randy's Insights on Officiating:
Randy, a high school football official, criticizes the officiating in the Rams vs. Bills game, highlighting issues with holding calls and the challenges officials face with passionate parents.
"Cooper cup gets lazy and he wraps his arms, both arms around the defender out in front of the officials at the point of attack. That's holding." (29:40)
Humorous Exchanges:
The segment is rich with humor, especially surrounding Vince's pie-related anecdotes and Randy's experiences with hostile parents.
"So you owe Marvin that. You called him out. And I'm glad you called in to deliver. Yes." (30:41)
Timestamp: 39:01 - 51:12
Former All-American linebacker David Pollack joins Dan to dissect the final college football rankings, playoff matchups, and offer predictions for the national title.
Playoff Matchups and Team Evaluations:
David discusses the selection of Oregon as the number one seed over Georgia, considering Oregon's undefeated season and potential challenges they face.
"Oregon is the number one seed or Georgia? That's the first thing when you saw the finalized bracket was, man, Oregon's got a tough road." (39:35)
Frustrations with Committee Decisions:
He voices his frustrations with how the selection committee evaluated teams like Alabama and SMU, questioning the criteria used for rankings and seedings.
"I do understand how you point to the wins and you say we have better wins than SMU, but we also have to point to the losses." (40:05)
Future of Playoff Seeding:
David suggests improvements for future seasons, including more interconference matchups and a clearer, more transparent seeding process.
"Have Vegas give you their odds. And then once you're in and then we seed you, we have one through twelve and then you have your matchup." (42:49)
National Title Predictions:
Offering his take, David predicts that Oregon, Georgia, Notre Dame, Tennessee, and Ohio State are prime contenders for the national title, considering their current performances and strengths.
"I think I'd go with five because I like the dominance that I've seen from Notre Dame. I think Tennessee could win it. I think Ohio State could win it." (45:10)
Timestamp: 22:55 - 51:12
Dan and his co-host delve into various topics, including:
NFL Historical Comparisons:
Dan compares current quarterbacks to legends like Tom Brady and Joe Montana, emphasizing the unique abilities of players like Patrick Mahomes.
"It's just Mahomes has this ability to make a subtle move when he feels pressure." (23:06)
Impact of Coaching and Team Strategies:
The discussion highlights the role of coaches like Jim Harbaugh and Dave Canales in shaping their teams' destinies and adapting strategies to win crucial moments.
"They know what to do, when to do it. And there's a certain calm that you have." (23:02)
Offseason Contract Speculations:
Speculations about quarterback contracts, particularly regarding Brock Purdy and Sam Darnold, and their future with their respective teams.
"They're looking at a full boat for Brock Purdy." (12:43)
Defining Great Teams:
Dan emphasizes the importance of teams' ability to seize crucial moments, maintain consistency, and capitalize on opponents' mistakes.
"The great teams take advantage. They seize that moment. They embrace that moment. They love that moment." (23:29)
Throughout the episode, Dan Patrick provides a blend of expert analysis, personal opinions, and interactive discussions that illuminate the complexities of both college and professional football. Key takeaways include:
Need for a Transparent Playoff System:
Both Dan and David Pollack agree on the necessity for a more transparent and fair playoff selection and seeding process in college football.
Quarterback Performance as a Deciding Factor:
The significance of quarterback efficiency and strategic play is underscored as a critical determinant of a team's success in high-stakes games.
Balancing Offense and Defense:
The conversation highlights the evolving strategies in the NFL, where balanced offensive and defensive plays are becoming paramount for securing victories.
Listener Engagement Enhances Content Quality:
Interactive segments with listeners add depth and relatability to the discussions, making the analysis more comprehensive and engaging.
Dan Patrick on Josh Allen:
"Josh Allen is an alien. Some of the stuff that he can do and the things that he can create, we knew he was capable of that." (10:09)
David Pollack on Playoff Selection:
"I think the committee maybe a little more transparency there. I think you would take that too, Dan, wouldn't you?" (44:23)
Listener Randy on Officiating:
"Holding is positioning. Cooper cup gets lazy and he wraps his arms... That's holding." (29:40)
Dan Patrick on Future NFL Playoffs:
"If you're going to do 12 teams, you win your conference, you get in. That doesn't mean that you get a first-round bye." (42:49)
