Show on Fox Sports Radio. In no particular order, the bills roll the 49ers and your MVP candidate. Right now it's Josh Allen's to lose and it's been that way for a couple of weeks. Christian McCaffrey out, maybe done for the year. The Eagles over the Ravens. They are the second best team in football and I am including the Bills in that. It's the Detroit Lions, the Eagles, then the Bills in my opinion. And don't count out the Steelers. The Steelers have a two game lead in the AFC north and they own the tiebreaker against the Ravens. So the Steelers, they outlast the Bengals. The Bears need a new head coach. They needed a new head coach when they had a head coach. The Vikings over the Cardinals, Seaton's Chargers over the Falcons, and Trevor Lawrence out with the cheap shot. And the question is, will he play again this season with college football? Obviously, Ohio State losing to Michigan, Georgia survives. And then you've got the rest of the situation here that they're going to try to put together. Put it in a blender and then tomorrow night we'll figure out where things stand. South Carolina might be as good as anybody right now in the country. Syracuse drops Miami. Penn State might be the second ranked team and I didn't say second best, I said the second ranked team in the country. When the rankings come out. We got football coming up tonight. The Browns at Fritz's Broncos, who almost put the Bengals in there. Sorry about that. Browns at the Broncos. And the Broncos are giving six. The NBA cup continues as well. Lakers, Timberwolves, Heat, Celtics. So a lot of things going on here as we get your phone calls ready as well. Seaton poll question for hour one is going to be. Brah, what are you going to go with?
Seton O'Connor
Man, where do we start? So much happened this weekend. Well, we might as well start on a negative. Who had the worst weekend?
Dan Patrick
We have to take Ohio State out of that, don't we?
Paul Pabst
I don't know.
Dan Patrick
Do we? Did anybody have a worse weekend than Ohio State?
Seton O'Connor
Well, Matt Eberfluss had a bad weekend.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, but that was, you know, we knew that that was going to be inevitable.
Seton O'Connor
But even for a guy who we knew was going to get fired, the way he chose to have his final act of getting Fired was particularly terrible. That was like, I don't know why we would hire you again to do this. Anybody.
Dan Patrick
Well, I wouldn't hire him to do anything that had to do with math. Anything to do with clock management there. It's weird. I thought the Bears organization was more embarrassing than Matt Eberfluss. Matt Eberflusse didn't understand clock management. You need to call a timeout. You had a timeout. You have a rookie quarterback in that situation. Let's regroup. Regroup here. Let's just go over the basics here. You got two plays if you want to call a different play. Okay? We're all on the same page here. Don't let the clock wind down. But then to let him go out and have his press conference knowing you're going to fire him. He's talking about next week. He's talking about how they're preparing. I think they play the Niners. I. What are you doing? That, to me, was more egregious than. I mean, he hasn't been a good coach. I wouldn't have brought him back this year. He proved that. I think they have talent. I think Caleb has played pretty well, but you can't send him out there and go, hey, am I holding my press conference? Yeah, go get him. Yeah. And then all of a sudden, two hours later, you fire him. So the Bears front office, to me, was more embarrassed or should be more embarrassed than Matt Eberflu.
Seton O'Connor
Sorry, is that the same Bears front office that hired Matt Eberflusse in the.
Dan Patrick
First place and kept him?
Seton O'Connor
Yeah, that's really the thing, because now every time I watch the Chargers do well, I think. See, there's your guy. Jim Harbaugh. He was right up the road. He was right up the road. And you could have brought him in.
Dan Patrick
The fact that they didn't even call him in for an interview.
Eddie Garcia
Oh, my stomach.
Dan Patrick
Former Bear quarterback. You know, you got him there.
Seton O'Connor
You definitely don't want Caleb Williams stuttering, studying under somebody like Jim Harbaugh who could maybe help ease him into the league.
Dan Patrick
No, you don't want that.
Seton O'Connor
He's got some experience doing that.
Dan Patrick
All right, so Ohio State, Matt Eber flu, slash Bears organization.
Seton O'Connor
Yeah, I'd say Ryan Day specifically, but. Okay. Yeah, Yeah, I can throw Kirk Cousins in that. On that list.
Dan Patrick
Well, if you throw him in there, he's going to be intercepted. Yeah.
Seton O'Connor
Somebody else is catching.
Dan Patrick
Okay. No, no, I. Look, hey, I love Kirk Cousins. I'm sorry. He was terrible yesterday.
Seton O'Connor
Yeah, he was terrible.
Dan Patrick
He does. Yes, he Knows that that was bad. And I wonder, I wonder how much longer until we see Michael Penix Jr III here. They're too good to be this bad. Wait, that was weird. Too good, too good to be this bad. Country song yeah, yeah, yeah. And she was too good to be this bad. What else do you have? Seaton.
Seton O'Connor
How about Justin Tucker?
Eddie Garcia
Oh, wow.
Seton O'Connor
Speaking of people, we like that. I don't want to see him too poorly, but he's having a horrible year.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I got to put him on the poll question. Got to. That was tough to watch. You know, you see somebody who's so good and then all of a sudden you're like, what happened? Yes. And then, and then you know just how powerful the mind is with these things because these athletes, they all have great talent. And then you. I. What separates you, I think, is your, your mental approach to things. And for a kicker, you're always in your head. But when you're that great and sometimes it's automatic, then you can see him actually thinking. He's thinking and that's the worst thing you can do. Sometimes athletes react. They've thought before, they get into the situation and then they just react. And you see him just going, please make it, please make it, please make it. And then all of a sudden he's human. Now I wonder, can you do to your kicker what we've seen organizations do to their quarterbacks? Anthony Richardson, sit down for a couple of weeks. Bryce Young, sit down for a couple of weeks. And now you're seeing those two quarterbacks be able to play well. Anthony Richardson is a more athletic Jameis Winston. Like, I don't know what's happening, but damn, he's fun to watch. And Bryce Young, I'm happy for him. You go toe to toe with the Chiefs, you go toe to toe with Tampa, and you lost both of those games, but those aren't on you. Can you do that to somebody who is 35 years of age as opposed to somebody who's 21, 22? Could you sit him down for a month? I know that seems like, wow, that'd be a drastic move, but can you do that to him? Just to say, get away here, get away from here a little bit, kind of figure out what's going on, just do something. But it feels like. And look, he's a stand up guy. He stood in there and he was answering the questions yesterday. In fact, do we have. Well, here's John Harbaugh talking about Justin Tucker.
Herm Edwards
We've been working through it. I mean, you work through with Every single player, every single thing you fight to try to help guys to be successful, you know, so we'll do that. I mean, if you're asking me are we going to move out from Justin Tucker, I'm not really planning on doing that right now. I don't think that'd be wise. But, you know, he. He'll tell you. He'll be the first to tell you. He's got to make. He needs to make many kicks as he can. And I just think if you look at Justin Tucker's history, you'd have to say he's capable of doing that. That's. That's something that he's going to want to do. And I know we're all going to want him to do it.
Dan Patrick
And I don't know if this is the yips that you see in golf or guys get in their head and they get to the free throw line. I don't know. But, you know, somebody who is going to the hall of Fame who all of a sudden forgot how to kick and missing an extra point, and we've gotten to the point now where a 50 yarder is not a big deal, 55 yards is not a big deal. We almost expect you to make those. But Justin Tucker is now a liability for this Ravens team. Who else are you going to put on the list there? Seaton? Let's see.
Seton O'Connor
Well, I think we keep it at those four. They've had particularly terrible weekends.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Seton O'Connor
Matt Eberfluss, Ryan Day, Kirk Cousins, Justin Tucker. Those are pretty. Those are pretty bad weekends.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Seton O'Connor
We have a bunch of other options for poll questions here. Most impactful game of the weekend.
Dan Patrick
Okay, let me save those until the second segment there. You know, when you talk about, can you bench a Hall of Famer? Well, Russell Wilson got benched, so, I mean, he got kicked to the curb. They paid him $90 million to go away in Denver, and he had a great day yesterday. Great day. You go toe to toe with Joe Burrow, by the way. Joe Burrow is going to have maybe one of the more incredible seasons playing for a losing team. I don't know how you know, they would rank those, but he's not going to make the playoffs, and he's been great this year. That defense has been horrible. And when these two teams to get together, it's always like when the Ravens and the Steelers get together, like their crooked scores. It's like, you know, 22 to 18 now, you're putting up crazy amounts of points there. 82 points combined. That's the most of any of their 102 games that they played between these two. This is the ST stat of the day. Stat of the day brought to you by Panini America. The official trading cards of the program. Yes, Paulie.
Eddie Garcia
Going back to Ryan Day and Matt Eberflus, it feels like a guy like Matt Eberflusse will probably get a defensive coordinator position somewhere on a below average team. Ryan Day hasn't beaten Michigan since 2019. That's a long time. If he. Do you think his job is in jeopardy or is that media and fan talk?
Dan Patrick
The importance of that game? The game, yeah. And you've lost four in a row.
Eddie Garcia
He does have the playoffs to clean up his mess.
Dan Patrick
Well, yeah, if this is a 14 playoff.
Paul Feinbaum
Yes.
Dan Patrick
Then he would probably. I can't say probably be. I think that this would be far more serious. Right now you're a 23 and a half point favor. You're at home. This is Michigan. Their quarterback is a walk on cancer survivor. They don't really have weapons. You know what they did? They played defense and ran the football. That's the ingredient. And it has been the tried and true ingredient of this rivalry ever since I can remember. Can you run the football and can you play defense? And that's exactly what they did. And they were the better team. You bring in Chip Kelly, he's your offensive coordinator. You spent $20 million on your roster and that's what you have to show for it. 10 points. He does have the playoffs to clean up the mess, though. But it might be. I can't think of a coach who needs to win the championship more than Ryan Deck. You know, Kayla DeBoer just got there at Alabama. Kirby Smart, he's secure there. You can go down the list here. Dabo Sweeney still going to be back at Clemson. I mean, there's no pressure there on him. Like James Franklin at Penn State, there's no pressure on him. But Ryan Day, there's a whole lot of pressure on him. We'll talk to Paul Feinbaum a little bit later on. We'll ask him is it national title or bust for Ryan Day, which is crazy to say with their dominance in the Big Ten, aside from Michigan, their dominance, but you know, beating really good teams, you know, now you're going to put that to the test. Could they be on the road opening weekend of the playoffs? Yes, Todd, but that rivalry is so big and he's been so bad these last few years. Is it even enough to win the national title game to some crazy Buckeyes fans like we won the national title, but we lost to Michigan. No, no, no. That fixes everything does. Yes, it hurts when you lose to Michigan because it used to be if you lost to Michigan, you know that team was moving on. You weren't. Now, all of a sudden, here you go, you got. You got wounded, you got embarrassed, you got humbled. And now it's a question of regrouping, going into the playoffs and not getting left behind. But if you win a national title, yes, that will clean up what happened over the weekend in Columbus, Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in the nation. Edwards, ESPN football analyst, former college and NFL head coach and he works on the mothership on SportsCenter, variety of other programs. He's been a busy guy this morning. All right, Herm, you got more of a problem with those planting the flag or those reacting to those planting the flag.
Hoda Kotb
I think the planting the flag days are over for college football. I do. I think when you see something like that occur, obviously, with the emotions of young people, I just think it was a bad look for college, a bad look for everyone involved in it. I think this will be one of those deals where they'll get together and say, you know what? Those days are done. No more flag planting.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, but how do you prevent that?
Hoda Kotb
You just, as a coach and as a, you know, college university, you just make sure the head coach speaks to the players as well as the AD and says, look, we're not planting flags. If anyone plants the flag, obviously there's going to be consequences. We're not going to do that here at this university any longer. And it's going to. It's going to probably be a part of the NCAA policy. That's. That's going to. That's not what we do.
Dan Patrick
And I know we've had people say, well, Ohio State fans, what they said to players and how they treat the player. I understand all of that, but you got the ultimate scoreboard coach, where you beat them in their place. That's it. Just wave goodbye to them instead of, we're going to put a flag in astroturf, which you can't do. And then, you know, it's going to bring about what it brought about Saturday.
Hoda Kotb
There's no doubt. And, you know, and, you know, young people are excited about doing that. I mean, it's kind of evolved to this in college football. We're going to plant a flag. I'm like, right. Really? It's the guys, you know, just, let's win the football game. Let's just move on. We don't have to plant any flags anywhere. That's just part of the collegiate, you know, football right now.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, well, I. I mean, I still believe you win with class, you lose with class. But both of those teams, both of those sides were wrong in what they did and how they. I get Ohio State. Hey, we got humble. You're not going to. You beat us, and now you're going to do that.
Paul Pabst
It.
Dan Patrick
There's no other rivalry like this. I get that.
Hoda Kotb
Yeah. But. But, Dan, you know, this. This rivalry was going on before these young people were even born.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Hoda Kotb
There was no flag planting. So it's just. It's kind of evolved. It is. You know, things evolve, and if you allow it to happen, it becomes, oh, we can do that, too. You know, it's a copycat world. I mean, oh, that. That that's cool. Let's go do that. No, let's stop that.
Dan Patrick
As a player, were you ever involved in a fight, like a brawl, team versus team?
Hoda Kotb
Let me think about that. In the years that I played, no even. Not even with. You know what, we had a little bit of incident one time with the Cowboys with that star that's planted in the middle of that field. But it did. It wasn't too bad. It was kind of like, okay, the star. Okay, we get the star.
Dan Patrick
Okay, the difference of coaching in snow, like last night in Buffalo, as opposed to just regular conditions. As a coach, what changes?
Hoda Kotb
Well, obviously, depending on how bad it gets and how the field obviously takes the snow, you become a little bit more conservative. Now, here's the crazy part, Dan, and you know this. You've been around football as long as I. The thing that sometimes people don't understand, they always ask the question about, you know, why are they so concerned with a quarterback's hand size? Well, any of them northern teams that play outside, it's critical the quarterback has big hands. It's critical when you play outside because of these kind of conditions. And you watched it unfold yesterday with Josh Allen, who might be the MVP of the league, his ability to carry the ball, at times with one hand, it seemed like it was throwing. Everybody else was flipping around with the ball. He just carried it like, oh man, we're good for that touchdown. He ran when they pitched it to him, he had the ball in one hand. He's plummeting. I'm going, there's the big hand deal. And because of the wind, the elements, guys with big hands. And you, Dan, you know football, you've gone back as far as ever. You think about all those teams, the Pittsburgh Steelers, all those teams that played outdoors back in the days, right? They had big hand quarterbacks. It's just part of the deal. And when the snow shows up, you get it. I got a guy that can function. He can throw the ball in these conditions, he can carry the ball, he can get the ball from the center. We're good.
Dan Patrick
Justin Tucker is lost.
Hoda Kotb
Yes.
Dan Patrick
Have you ever been around a kicker who is suffering what, whatever he's suffering? The yips or just in his. In his head?
Hoda Kotb
Yeah, you've seen it. And I think coach is smart enough to know he's sticking with his guy. But during practice now, unannounced, when you're practicing, you just bowl. We'll say we're going to kick a field goal right in the middle of practice. It's not even Announced, you just, hey, Phil, go, let's go. And you bring them out and you put him in an area where you get it inside the 30 to let him see him make it. Just you want him to make some kicks in front of the team. You don't plan it. It's kind of in practice. I'm gonna go and you tell the coaches we're going to practice that week and say, look, in the this period, I'm going to call for a kick. And then in this other period, I'm going to call for a kick. And it's kind of unannounced, so you catch them off guard and go, hey, line up. Let's kick the ball. And players will start looking, what is this about? Kick the ball? You want to see him make it. Want to see him make it right? And that's all you can do. They're going to stick with their guy.
Dan Patrick
When I was playing basketball, coach would say, such and such going to the free throw line. If he makes it, we're done with practice. If he misses, we have to run. But he wanted to have that element of put some pressure on you before you get pressure on you and then see how you do. We're talking to the former coach, ESPN football analyst Herm Edwards. When you look at the Bears, the Bears organization, you see what.
Hoda Kotb
Oh, I see an organization. And that needs to be relevant in the fact they are Chicago Bears. And there's certain teams in this league need to be relevant. The Giants, the New York Giants need to be relevant. They need to be good, they need to be competitive. They found themselves a quarterback. They got a quarterback. There ain't no doubt about it. Everybody was hollering, what kind of guy? Oh, he's a quarterback. You got yourself quarterback. Now, how do you fix it?
Paul Feinbaum
Right?
Hoda Kotb
They're in a. They're in the most competitive vision division in football, the NFC north right now. They got three teams over there with obviously probably going to the playoffs, to be quite honest. And so now you got a Chicago team that's looking up at all those teams. You have the key position in place, quarterback. They have some good players going forward. Now, who's going to be the coach? Who's going to fix this? Right? Because that's what, you know, every coach is hired, he's always coming in gently to fix something. You know, how do you fix it? Well, they have to worry about the quarterback. He's proven he can play. He can play in any conditions. He can play in the wind, he can play in the cold. He's gotten better as the season has developed and they're in competitive division. But you know, this, I mean, football, it's a funny, it's a funny game. All of a sudden they've lost some close games. That one they lost this week. Not calling obviously. Maybe a timeout when he could have tied it or what. It, it's stuff like that that gets you.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I agree with you. They found their quarterback. Now the question, I thought that they were a playoff caliber team, but. And you know, I bring this up a lot when we look at the Chiefs. Oh, they get lucky and they win these games. Close games come down to coaching and quarterback play like. And so you have two hall of Famers, two of the best who've ever done this. You have a decided advantage over a second year coach and a quarterback. That's probably a backup quarterback in Aiden oconnell. So that's a decided advantage that the Chiefs have here and they take advantage of that.
Hoda Kotb
Great point in the fact that you've always say this. When you have a great quarterback, you're going, if we get the last possession, yeah, it's, it's over. We're going to win. He's going to find a way to win. That's what the great ones do. And you sit there, you smile, you go, okay, we're good, we're good. 95% of the time you're going to win.
Dan Patrick
Okay, but what was that feeling like as a former defensive back? Was there a quarterback when he had the ball? You're on the field and you go, damn it, we're going to lose.
Hoda Kotb
My rookie year, when the Dallas Cowboys are rolling, that's starback, right? We've been playing the Dallas Cowboys twice. You know, I'm all excited. I'm a rookie, I'm a starter, we're playing the Cowboys and I'm going, hey, man, we're leading this thing. And I'm in the huddle and it's the fourth quarter and a couple of veterans looked at me and said, rook, don't start smiling. He's got the ball. Roger Stack. I'm going, what does that mean? Sure enough, right down the field, I go, oh, boy, I see what you mean.
Savannah Guthrie
Now.
Dan Patrick
Roger Staubach is underrated.
Hoda Kotb
He really is.
Dan Patrick
Because he had that short career because of the military. He averaged eight yards of carry, I believe. I mean, unbelievable. Like, that was when guys weren't really running.
Hoda Kotb
No, you're right.
Paul Feinbaum
No.
Hoda Kotb
And you know what? Here's another one I'm gonna bring up too. Another one that we Got the ball at the end. You go, oh, we're in trouble. Fran targeted Sir Francis. We called him Sir Francis.
Paul Feinbaum
Target.
Hoda Kotb
I tell you what, boy. Unbelievable.
Dan Patrick
How do you explain Russell Wilson?
Hoda Kotb
Oh, you know what? I'm happy for Russell Wilson because all of the anguish that Pittsburgh Steeler fans had. What are we doing? Why is he playing? He just threw for 400 yards. 400. This is the Pittsburgh Steelers. You know, the ones that turn around and give the runner the ball. They want to win 12 to 6. And Mike Common, obviously, Hall of Fame coach, he knows playing the Cincinnati Bengals with Joe Burrows, who was an outstanding football player. And it's a shame they let the runner go. And now it's all on Joe Burrows hands. Before this week, he had thrown 100 plus passes. He was throwing averaging 50 passes a game. He got no shot doing that. He had no shot. Well, the Pittsburgh Steelers, look at this game go. Hey, you know what, guys, we can't win this one. 13 to 10. We're going to have to score some points. And Russell was cooking with gas now. I mean, he is getting better every week. And this team all of a sudden is like, oh, Pittsburgh Steelers are getting a lot better. Probably the Baltimore Ravens are getting in their own way. Yeah, they got 101 fouls. 101. That kills you. It's just, it's death to you. I don't care how good you are, you can't get penalties like that. And this is what they're doing. And the Pittsburgh Steelers are quietly going, okay, Baltimore, Right. It's interesting.
Dan Patrick
If the Eagles played the Lions this weekend, who would you take? I'd say neutral field, Eagles lines.
Hoda Kotb
The way the Eagles are playing the last two weeks, two road wins, they're playing pretty good, Dan. And here's the key for me with the Eagles. I wanted to see how they were going to play the Rams on the road with a veteran quarterback, some talented receivers that where they could throw the ball. Their defensive line dominated them. That's taking place now. That front is going. Those young players they have in the back of the secondary now, they've gotten better. The offense is no longer. Oh, hearst can run RPO. No, you turn around and give it to 26 and see what he can do. Now that's another story. The giants allowed number 26 to catch a cab and come down to Philadelphia. He caught a cab. We'll pay your cab fare. You can. We don't need you. You go, really? He's going to run for 2,000 yards, by the way.
Dan Patrick
More valuable. Josh Allen Or Saquon Barkley.
Hoda Kotb
Josh Allen.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Hoda Kotb
Josh Allen. He's. He might be the MVP candidate right now.
Dan Patrick
Oh, I think it's his to lose.
Hoda Kotb
Yeah, I love him. He's more than the quarterback. He is a teacher's football player, you know. You know, he reminds me of. We'll take us back there where we want to go.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Hoda Kotb
John Elway.
Dan Patrick
No.
Hoda Kotb
Strong, big run, rugged. Right. That kind of guy.
Dan Patrick
Who would you rather have to start your franchise, John Elway or Allen?
Hoda Kotb
Yeah, you would ask. Now, look, I think either one, you're going to be pretty.
Dan Patrick
No, no, no. We don't do the either one. Okay. Okay.
Hoda Kotb
I'm going to tell you this because I played against him and I respect him. I'm going to say John Elmer.
Dan Patrick
Okay. All right. Always good to talk to you.

Congratulations to Easterseals Southern California on their first place win for innovation in customer service at this year's unconventional awards by T Mobile. For business, Easterseals has used T Mobile 5G to create immersive VR development tools that aid people with autism in addressing transportation barriers. These tools are shaping the way safe and personalized skill building is delivered. And for that, T Mobile congratulates Easterseals Southern California for their unconventional thinking. I just walked by Paulie and Paulie goes, there's only three teams that can win the national title in college football. I go save it. All right, before we get to Paul Feinbaum, I'm going to ask you the question and then I'll let Paul Feinbaum judge your answer right now.
Eddie Garcia
Based off who's in and who's out, I think there's three teams that could win the national title. Oregon, Texas and Notre Dame. They're the only three teams playing consistently good football.
Dan Patrick
All right, let's bring in Paul Feinbaum, host of the Paul Feinbaum show, voice of the sec. What do you think of that, Paul?
Paul Feinbaum
It's not a bad answer, I might add. Georgia, although I realize we all just watched an eight overtime game. But I think they're capable and I'm going to surprise you here. There's one more who could win it. I thought they were the most talented team a week ago and then I forgot who was coaching them. Ohio State.
Dan Patrick
Ohio State's loss at home to Michigan or Alabama's loss to Oklahoma. What was worse, in your opinion?
Paul Feinbaum
It was, it was Ohio State because Alabama, it was on the road. They're not a perfect team, but they didn't quite spend $20 million like Ohio State to fill out their roster. I, I think, and also the narrative, I mean, we're talking about three straight losses all to Jim Harbaugh in what Ohio State, Michigan fans believe is the biggest game in the country. And then it happens again. Dan that's inexplicable. There's no excuse for it because I really thought going into the season that a Brian Day here I get to the lead, lost that game and somehow was embarrassed or didn't make it to the championship game that, that he probably should be fired. And quite frankly, that hasn't changed. I know the athletic director came out last night with one of these word salads saying, oh, he's our guy. That same athletic director, Ross Bjork, you may remember, two years ago in the middle of the season, said similar things about Jimbo Fisher and then at the end of the season fired him and gave him a $76 million goodbye gift.
Dan Patrick
Okay. If there wasn't a 12 team playoff, Ryan Day would be what I think.
Paul Feinbaum
He would be fired. And quite frankly, it would be justified. I am well aware his record is 66 10. He's been to the CFP championship game. He's been to the playoffs a couple of times. But in states like that. And Dan, I don't need to educate you. You're from one of those states. That game is really bigger than life. And after the first one, after the second one, after the third one, but after the fourth one, and I tell you the line that got me more than any other line, it wasn't his coaching, which is atrocious, it was the fact that he defended his players for getting into a brawl that required pepper gas and who knows what else defending the field. I mean, Ryan, you had all year to prepare for that game and 60 minutes and 4 hours in real time to win the game. What your players did after the game was beyond embarrassing. And I know that's a whole nother narrative today, but that single statement alone in my mind was fireable.
Dan Patrick
What's happened with the flag planting that all of a sudden it's become the rage with the kids. What's. Do you think the NCAA does anything with this?
Paul Feinbaum
Yeah, I mean, they should. I think ultimately it's up to the individual conferences and I feel very certain that conferences are going to put an end to it. I mean, it is too dangerous. We both been on fields. At the end of the game, it's chaotic. And then when you have brawls with players, big guys with shoulder pads and helmets, and there are a lot of idle people on those fields that could really be hurt or killed. And give Steve Sarkeesian credit, the Texas coach, he saw this all day long happening and he warned his team, if we win this game, which they did at Texas A and M, don't do it. And it's just absurd. There's no reason for it. I really like guys who lose the home game and then they're going to go out and try to win a fight. I mean, where are we? What's, what's happening here?
Dan Patrick
If Georgia had lost to Georgia Tech.it.
Paul Feinbaum
Would have not been the end of the season for them. Incredibly, they would have still gone to Atlanta with a chance to not only win the SEC but, but get a first round by. That's how crazy the system is. But we already knew that it was. What you saw in that game as the clock struck midnight was why Kirby Smart is the best coach in the country. I mean, he, he finally said, okay, I, I know we got a defensive coordinator, but I'm making every call right now. And he dialed it up correctly. Literally every time. Of course you get a timeout and overtime, so that's a lot of time outs. And maybe we'll talk about the over. Maybe the overtime system needs to be changed. That's absurd to watch two point conversions over and over again. But it was really impressive. And by the way, I'm not making excuses for Georgia, but Georgia Tech has a win over Miami, a team that is sitting on the CFP bubble right now.
Dan Patrick
The USC loss. I know you've expressed your thoughts with Lincoln Riley. Notre Dame look really good. Really good. I don't know if like Notre Dame may be the story coming away from that as opposed to USC getting really embarrassed at home. What should be the story? What Notre Dame did or what USC didn't do again?
Paul Feinbaum
Well, I was. Listen, I was impressed with Notre Dame and I think now they are a legitimate national. National champion. But with someone in California. Explain to me why Lincoln Riley, as of almost noon Eastern time is still the head coach at Southern Californ. What's it, what has he done? He had the one season Dan with Caleb Williams last year was. I thought that was a disaster. But then again I forgot about this season. And considering their record is 500, that includes a win over LSU in the opening game. I mean, I don't know when I've seen a coach underperform. I was wondering early in the year maybe somebody in the NFL would hire him.
Dan Patrick
But.
Paul Feinbaum
Hire him as what? I mean, I mean maybe a coordinator. I mean, I say, I think he has completely outlived his usefulness at Southern Cal. Shouldn't be there any longer.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, but I can't imagine that they're going to be, you know, in the business of big buyouts here.
Paul Feinbaum
I'm not either. I know a lot of people laughed at me in July when I made that outrageous Deion Sanders for Lincoln Riley take, which I remember hearing on the Dan Patrick Show a few times, by the way. I mean, I've been right and wrong on Dion 100 times, as we all have. But I just think that continuing on, especially now in the Portal era, what's the appeal? Remember when he moseyed out there a couple of years ago and was going to make that place sizzling in Tinseltown? But, I mean, I don't get it. Listen, I know I get accused of calling for coaches firings all the time. I really don't. But in this case, I think it's legitimate because USC is one of the. The golden names in college football, and now it's become a laughing stock.
Dan Patrick
Dion's done a really good job here with, with recruiting, I think. Does that put an end to Dion leaving Colorado at least this next season?
Paul Feinbaum
I think until the last NFL job is filled, his name is going to be dancing out there because I, you know, I, maybe, maybe I just don't believe when coaches say anything. But the fact that, you know, he's happy out there and now that his son and best recruit ever are leaving, to me, makes me wonder a little bit. It just, it's. I mean, he beat the. He beat the house this year. I think he, in part, he beat it because he is a good coach. He had two, not not only two, but two of the best players I've seen in college football in recent years. He also took advantage of a Big 12 that was really diluted. It was an okay lead, but by no means what he had last year in the Pac12. So he mastered it. I mean, he didn't get to the championship game, he won't get to the playoffs, but he still did a remarkable job.
Dan Patrick
He's Paul Finebaum of the mothership, host of the Paul Feinbaum Show. Heisman Trophy race over?
Paul Feinbaum
I think so. I know, you know, fans in Boise want to make a case for their man, but I think Travis Hunter wraps it up Friday. And, I mean, he's dynamic, you know, Again, I don't know why the Jim Thorpe committee didn't think he was one of the best defensive players in the country, but those are little things that we make a big deal about. But I will be shocked if he doesn't win the Heisman Trophy.
Dan Patrick
Does Colorado try to extend Deion? I wonder. I don't know how that works with, you know, these coaches. And then we're going to Give you, like, West Virginia just, you know, a year after giving their coach an extension, they fired him. So I don't know, you know, the loyalty level there, but I haven't heard anything about Colorado and Deion.
Hoda Kotb
Yeah.
Paul Feinbaum
What these agents do now, There's a handful of agents now. Deion's different. He's got a whole team. But, I mean, you basically float a rumor that Deon's going somewhere, and then the next day, the athletic director, reading his social media, goes. Goes hyperbolic and gives him an extension. I can't imagine they wouldn't extend him, but I think Dion's got to figure out what he wants to do. I mean, I frankly think he would make a very good NFL coach. Probably not in Dallas, but there'll be a few openings. Oh, actually, there may be by the end of the day, but we have one already. Couple of more to come.
Dan Patrick
What do you make of Andrew Luck as the GM of Stanford football?
Paul Feinbaum
I thought that was a good move. I mean. I mean, Andrew Luck is a. Is an incredibly smart guy, and that's his school.
Dan Patrick
But what is the role of a gm?
Paul Feinbaum
Very important question. The GM is. Does the same thing in college that they do in the pros. I mean, they are in charge of personnel. They. They watch the portal, Dan, which is now open. They deal with the money. However that works in college football. Nobody exactly sure. And they really run the player personnel side of college football, and that's maybe the most important position in college football that nobody really knows about or understands. I think he'll be great at it.
Dan Patrick
Most important game coming up this weekend will be what?
Paul Feinbaum
Well, probably the ACC game, because you have smu. They are now in the acc, in case anybody missed that story. And they're playing Clemson, which just got knocked out of the CFP the other day by losing at home to South Carolina. But then Syracuse beat Miami. So I think Clemson can literally. Here we go in NCAA basketball talking, Mark. They can steal a bid by getting that. If they lose, they're out. That's the fourth loss. SMU probably stays alive. Miami is the one that. Miami and Alabama are probably literally on that bubble sweating it out. The SEC game will not affect anything. The ACC game will. I mean, there's a couple. Obviously, there are other games that affect one bid, but this game could affect several bids.
Dan Patrick
But I wonder, are we getting to the close? Getting close to the point of getting rid of conference championship games? Because what's at risk if you suffer another loss? And like Georgia, you're saying Georgia is safe, even if they lose the SEC title game.
Paul Feinbaum
Yeah, because they have two losses and they have the best win on the board right now on the country. They have a win over Texas, which will be number two tomorrow night. So that matters. I mean, I don't understand this committee. They value top 25 teams. I mean, there's some teams in the top 25, Dan, that are just putrid, but they got. I mean, there's some teams in the top 10 that aren't that great. But ultimately, I think. Who have you beaten? Georgia has a great win. Alabama, by the way, has some epic losses that you mentioned, one Vanderbilt to the other two, six lost teams. But they do have a win over Georgia, so that will put them at least into consideration.
Dan Patrick
Good to talk to you as always, Paul. Thanks for joining us.
Paul Feinbaum
Pleasure, Dan. Thank you.
Dan Patrick
That's Paul Feinbaum.
