I know a lot of cops. They get asked all the time, have you ever had to shoot your gun? Sometimes the answer is yes. But there's a company dedicated to a future where the answer will always be no. This is Absolute Season 1 Taser Incorporated.
Covino
I get right back there and it's bad.

Covino
You are listening to the Dan Patrick.
Rich
Show on Fox Sports Radio.
Covino
We bring our best every day, especially when we're in for the great Dan Patrick. We got IOW Sam on the ones and twos. We got super producer Danny G. On the phones at 87799 on Fox again, where Covino and Rich spots on the videos at Covino and Rich. Two to four on the west, five to seven on the east. But always a pleasure to wake up bright and early.
Rich
You know it, buddy. For dp, it's an honor to film for Dan Patrick and shout out to the Danettes, Fritzy and Malvin and all our pals. We appreciate you guys letting us sit in. It's funny because every time I think of Dan Patrick, which is often, I do think about how cool it is that he's in Sandler movies and this Sandman and Happy Gilmore. Tonight's a couple weeks away.
Covino
I know.
Rich
We're pumped about that. And just the other day we were talking about old school jams, old school summer songs and whatnot. And our video guy spot brought up Jock Jam.
Covino
Yeah.
Rich
And he's like, do you think you can name every song as it happens? And I forgot that. Who, like, kicks off that song? Welcome to the big show. Dan Patrick is the guy in Jock Jam that you listen to. What? By the way, thousands of times.
Covino
His audience that are probably like, yeah, no duh.
Rich
What? Then maybe they forgot. When was the last time you threw in the Jock jam? Danny G. 90 style?
Covino
When I jam, it's not normally the Jock Jam. I love the jam. Yeah, no, it's been a minute. Did you know that, Danny G. Like, off the top of your head? I did know that.
Danny G
Yeah.
Covino
See, that's what I'm saying. Like, you're talking to his audience, so they're probably like, yeah, dude, welcome to the show.
Danny G
It's because we're radio nerds.
Covino
So we were always in charge of.
Danny G
The music, even when we were in school. So we had the Jock Jam cd and you just put that bad boy in and there was your soundtrack for whatever event was going on at the school.
Rich
It's muscle memory. I'm not. I'm not saying let's do it now, but when you're bored as hell later today or something at work, put on Jock Jam and you will somehow know every transition from song to song to song. It was just part of your, like, workout mix he played in the locker room. At school, in high school. Like, that was just part of it.
Covino
No, no, I worked out to the Rocky soundtrack, bro. I don't know what you little boys did. I'm just kidding.
Rich
You worked out.
Covino
I'm just kidding. By the way, Rich is going to tell you next how Dan Patrick also hosted SportsCenter. Shut up.
Rich
Stick around for the way. As far as domination, we are going to have Joey Chestnut give us a little recap. Hour three. Joey Chestnut's going to call in. But Mike, who runs this place?
Danny G
Who?
Rich
The guy who runs I Heart and everything.
Danny G
He said, I don't think he runs any of that.
Rich
He said Michael Phelps is a great answer. If you guys know who else is for a moment. Bolt. We're saying Bolt and Pele back in the day was like the one soccer.
Covino
Star, everyone amongst boys, that sort of thing.
Rich
That's the point.
Covino
Joey Chestnut, he definitely has that sort of dominance in his game. In his sport.
Rich
Yeah, it's less about, oh, he keeps winning. I'm just saying he took a not a year off, but he had his other obligation. You would think that some other grown man would be like, you know what? I could get within 20 hot dogs of this guy.
Covino
Can't do it. Like legend.
Rich
But it's not even like, oh, he won again by three hot dogs.
Danny G
He.
Rich
It's like Tyson knocking out other heavyweight champions in 60 seconds. It's that type of. I know it's hot dog eating versus boxing or, you know, but honestly, that's.
Covino
What the sport needed, someone like him to bring it even more into the mainstream. That's why we talk about him. That's why when it comes to competitive eating, how many names do you really know? Crazy likes Conti and Joey Chestnut.
Rich
Kobayashi.
Covino
Yeah, like, you only know, really, Joey Chestnut. Like, the average fella is only going to know. Yeah, Joey Chestnut because he's that legendary when it comes to hot dog eating and competitive eating, period. Again, Kavino Henrich, live from the Fox Sports Radio studio. And most cars on the road could use a little tl. At Mako, we bring your car back to life with affordable paint jobs and light collision repairs. Get a free estimate today. Oh, better get Mako.
Rich
Now, speaking of speaking of domination and speaking of just something, something special, I'll give your boy credit. Yesterday, he wasn't as dominant as he's been over the last, you know, couple months. But what would the Yankees be doing without Max Freed right now?
Covino
Oh, he is the only shining light. Well, Aaron Judge, too. He's on, you know, his own personal record Pace of home runs, he's still dominant. But the Yankees are stinking like Abe Lincoln. That's just the truth.
Rich
And richest Mets things are smelly in the 1800s.
Covino
So.
Rich
Yeah, think of how smelly that is. Yes, Mary Todd. What?
Covino
No, for real. But Max Freed is the stopper. Every team needs one. You know, he stops the bleeding. He comes out there, he's 11 and two by the way. And he probably should be 12 and one, I guess.
Rich
I mean I look, he's had one stinker, but I look at Max Freed for the Yankees and I, you know, not going to say I told you so, but I'm a National League fan more than American.
Covino
I'm a Mets fan.
Rich
And when you guys got Max Freed, I was like, man, you again. You were like, good.
Covino
I guess sometimes you need to see a player day in, day out to understand how great they really are.
Rich
He's, he's dominant and you knew if he got a chance for a team like the Yankees, as much as I hate, he was going to dominate. Southern California kid lives out here on the way, you know, grew up out here, I believe right in Santa Monica. Played, played out here.
Covino
He's incredible to watch.
Rich
And yesterday with the Yankee and this is so important for any team in any sport to have. You said the guy that stops the bleeding because the Yankees have looked like trash. And I was like, oh man, Max Freed, I yesterday, I'm a Mets fan. I'm like, well today is the day the Mets lose because Max Freed, they're not going to lose seven in a row. Matt, your only savior.
Covino
They're just not playing baseball. And someone said it's like someone pulled the plug out. It's like, it's like they forgot how to play. They're not really playing the game. It's just, it's so weird to see a team go from dominant to just trash overnight. There's a way someone flipped a switch.
Rich
When you watch the Yankees. And again I'm a big Mets fan. They, they, they were stinking. They won, you know, four in a row until the Yankees won yesterday. So the Mets are trying to get back on track. Baseball's hot right now, your Yankees. When I watch that team a little closer when I'm, when they're playing, you know, my team or I'm just watching a Yanks game, I feel like if, if you could picture on Aaron Judge, the lineup's not as scary as it looks like.
Covino
That's the Ron Washington way of the game. He's like, the Yankees might beat me But I'm not going to let Aaron Judge beat me. And that's why he's. He's going to break records, I think, for intentional walks this season, because he's already up there. We're only halfway there. Intentionally walked a million times, and that's been the trick. And no one else steps up. And now Anthony, Guys like Anthony Volpe are taking the heat.
Rich
Like, there was a point yesterday. And again, I don't expect everyone to have watched the Met Yankees game, but it was the national game of the week yesterday that was on. It was free on mlb, Met Yankees. I mean, it still got clout. There was a point where it was a close enough game, and I was like, first base is open. Why are you pitching to. To Aaron Judge? And Mendoza decided I pitched him. First pitch, didn't even get all of it. Just sort of got enough of it. Two run home run, just like that. I'm like, there's a way. If you're an American League team, if you're the Tigers, if you're the Astros.
Covino
No, you walk them. I hate that game. But as part of it, there's a.
Rich
Part of me that thinks that come the postseason, you better hope guys like Volpe and Goldschmidt and who's the Stanton. Who's your Mustachio guy? Lefty Grisham Wells? If those guys are cold, I would walk Aaron Judge. I know it's boring as hell for baseball, but I would walk him every afternoon.
Covino
Strategy.
Rich
Strategy.
Covino
No, no, you're absolutely right, man.
Rich
And I did see that over the weekend, that if the team is called Aaron Judge, it's walk him. Walk him every time. But speaking of your Yankees is a more interesting story. Less about baseball, more about people's fandom of Seinfeld.
Covino
Yeah, this is wild. I think the story. Danny G. Super producer, correct me if I'm wrong, there's a great chance that I will be. August 21st is George Costanza Bobblehead night. You got it right. And tickets. The story is that tickets are less expensive than for what the bobbleheads are going for on the black market. So people are willing to pay.
Rich
Slow down. Black market? You mean like ebay?
Covino
No, no. Black market spot.
Rich
It's on the dark.
Covino
It is, yeah. No, because people are trying to get their hands on these illegally because they're such a hot item. I was walking down the street, someone, like, pulled me into, like, a door, and I had to go down the stairs and down an alleyway, and in.
Rich
The back, I got him.
Covino
You think I'm Just the whole thing.
Rich
Of George Costanza bobbleheads with bobbleheads.
Covino
Yo. You think I'm kidding? I'm going to throw something at you.
Danny G
I think the greatest Seinfeld episode ever.
Covino
It's one of the best. Yeah.
Danny G
Yeah.
Covino
So again, Yankees, George Costanza bobblehead pre sales for the actual bobblehead. Yeah.
Danny G
The bobblehead is more than tickets. Sleeping pillow under the desk.
Covino
Yes, yes. But they're going for more than tickets to that day's game. The average ticket price for that game on, like, StubHub, let's say, was about $50. The average pre sale price. And I don't even know how you pre sell something you don't have your hands on on ebay was well over $200 because you got these, like, for reference, these trash bag ticket holders that just want to sell it for reference. They recently did an Aaron Judge. Aaron Judge special, like, Superman promo bobblehead.
Rich
I'd welcome that.
Covino
No, he flies. That leaves tall buildings in a single bound. That was only about $100 on eBay.
Rich
Costanza.
Covino
Costanza. And again, this goes back to something we've ranted about before. And I believe our boy Evan Roberts also brought this up. It's only given out to the first 18,000 fans, which makes boneheads want it even more. Yeah, I say boneheads respectfully because I don't know why you would want this silly thing anyway.
Rich
To me, yeah, I'll give props. I heard our old. We used to work with him at Maxim Radio back in the day at Sirius xm. Evan Roberts, who's now on in New York City, wfan.
Danny G
What the hell is a Maxim?
Covino
You remember magazines, everyone.
Rich
Print media was a thing.
Danny G
Who?
Rich
Evan went on a rant, and I saw him about a year ago saying how when they do a giveaway at a stadium, whatever the sponsor is, you tell me you can't pony up and make sure everyone that enters the stadium gets that. Like, you, like, honestly. Print more bobbleheads, print more banners. Make more. Make more crappy.
Covino
Not just for the goofball collector, but, I don't know, you're taking your kid there and now you got to sit with their sour puss for the rest of the day because they didn't get one because dad was late.
Rich
I just remember my daughter.
Covino
That's not fair.
Rich
My daughter went with her friend to a Dodgers game out here because it was like hello Kitty night. And they had to leave early because we got to make sure we get them. And I'm like.
Covino
And it brings out the Worst. It's like, you know, when TVs are on sale for Black Friday, you know, you get people fighting over the hottest Christmas gift. It's. It brings out the worst because everyone's trying to get there and cause a rut kiss just to get their hands on the stupid bobblehead. And if you don't get one, your whole day's ruined.
Rich
Do you remember?
Covino
So I hate that it's a trash move.
Rich
Do you remember when they did the bobblehead? It was Shohei and his dog.
Covino
Shohei Ohtani and his dog.
Rich
It was Ohtani and his puppy.
Covino
There was a line for like, probably the night before people were lined up just to be first into the stadium. It was Shohei Ohtani. It should be something like, you know, all children under 14 or something ridiculous like that. They got to figure that out.
Rich
You mean these billion dollar teams and billion dollar companies when you're already making the money on concessions, the tickets, everything. I am a firm believer that every kid that enters. Every kid.
Covino
That's all I'm saying. I'm not saying every kid goofball there should get one. I'm saying every kid should definitely be guaranteed that they get a. Well, then again, I don't want to raise a Softy Pants either. Right? Hey, let you. You don't always get what you want. Kid scramble. Emma. Ding dong. I get it. It's a. It's a decent life lesson. But you're going there. And why did they stop that promotion at Domino's? Rich, remember? It was like, get your pizza in 30 minutes or less or it's free.
Rich
Because.
Covino
Because.
Rich
Because people were dying in car crashes.
Covino
Exactly. Everyone was trying to, you know, get the pizza there on time, and they were crashing their cars. You got all these maniacs just trying to get to the stadium in time and early enough to get this dumbass bobblehead. And I have to ask you, what are you doing with it, grownups? I might be the most immature guy you know. Let's just say I'm 40 something years old.
Rich
No, no one interrupted you there, by the way.
Covino
Right?
Rich
Right. Your mom did your laundry until you were 28.
Covino
And I'm telling you. What are you doing with all these bobbleheads?
Rich
You, Brad.
Covino
The bobblehead craze.
Rich
You bragged maybe like five years ago that you learned how to make a scrambled egg for your daughter.
Covino
We all. We all have our things that we collect, and I get that, but the craze for bobbleheads is just beyond me. And I'm a sports fan. Fox Sports Radio has the best sports.
Rich

Rich

Covino
Touchdown, Kansas City.
Greg Rosenthal
He's on it. How about Lamar Jackson?
Covino
Jackson takes it himself.

Look at him dart back and forth. Oh, he broke his ankles and he's got a touchdown.
Covino
He is Houdini.

Sometimes it's hard to remember, but going.
Rich
Through something like that is a traumatic experience.
Danny G
But it's also not the end of your life.
Dr. Lea Tritate
That was my dad reminding me and so many others who need to hear it that our trauma is not our shame to carry and that we have big, bold and beautiful lives to live after what happened to us. And I'm your host and co president of this organization, Dr. Lea Trittate. On my new podcast, the Unwanted Sorority, we wade through transformation to peel back healing and reveal what it actually looks like and sounds like in real time. Each week I sit down with people who've lived through harm, carried silence, and are now reshaping the systems that failed us. We're going to talk about the adultification of black girls mothering as resistance and the tools we use for healing. The Unwanted Sorority is a Safe space, not a quiet space. So let's lock in. We're moving towards liberation together. Listen to the unwanted sorority. New episodes every Thursday on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts.

Visit rapidradios.com now for up to 60% off and free shipping. Thank you, Rapid Radios. Again, the number is 87799 on Fox next hour. Just so you know, we're playing Last one Standing, the game that's sweeping the nation. Lot harder than it sounds, harder than it looks. Much like what we do here as radio tycoons. Everybody thinks they could do what we do. Proof. Everyone's a podcaster from their bedroom. True story, but it's harder than it looks. Kind of like tennis. To wrap it up, I want to play with Andy Roddickson.
Rich
It's harder than it looks. And the proof is in. I'd say the pudding, but the proof is in. Go online and see how easy it is to get used podcast equipment because people do it. They try to be a, you know, they try to do their own podcast and then quickly realize, oh, and then they sell the equipment.
Covino
I'm just trying to make it look like what we do is impressive. It's really not. But Andy Roddick was talking about the athleticism and superiority involved in playing tennis. I think tennis players are the best athletes in the world. 5 hours and 40 something minutes on the biggest stages. You compare this to other sports. An NBA game is 48 minutes played in air conditioning where you have teammates, halftime timeouts to one thing doesn't mean you're throwing shade at someone else. I'm celebrating and applauding one set of athletes. It's the most complete examination of an athlete that I can think of. You know, we used to get viewed as like, oh, you're soft, like country club sport. I don't know that that narrative exists.
Rich
I don't know how you can watch.
Covino
And not say the athleticism on display is otherworldly. I think tennis players are the best athletes in the world. The more I watch it, the more I think it.
Rich
Tell me why I'm wrong.
Covino
You know, I respect it. The more I hear it. Good for him. He's defending it. I like what he said, but I will debate it. I like the stigma that it has of some sort of country club soft sport, though, and thank the movies for that. It's always like these rich douche nozzles that are portrayed playing tennis, right?
Rich
I mean, it is a, quote, country club sport, but it's also very tough, which is why all those rich people have tennis lessons.
Covino
But again, to wrap it up, I think it's more of the skill that's involved makes it tough as opposed to, I don't know, Fighting, like I said, is probably more difficult. Tennis is up there, though. I just think it's one of those things that are harder than they look.
Rich
I just feel like someone's wife is always sleeping with the tennis pro. Right? That's the reputation.
Covino
What are your thoughts? Hit us up at Covino and Rich. Tell Roddick. Tell us why you agree or disagree.
Rich
I wanted to bring up something before we move on to the NFL before we play a little last one standing. Give away some prizes here. Going to talk to Joey Chestnut next hour. That is big victory over the fourth of July weekend. I just saw that. I believe I'm only finding three names of people that have already confirmed that they're in the Home Run Derby. Am I wrong about saying I saw Acuna Jr. Cal Raleigh and James Wood.
Covino
James Woods Raleigh was the big announcement. I don't know who else is involved yet.
Rich
I know that Schwaber and Pete Alonso have both declined. Same with Judge and Ohtani. And I still think the derby's great. No matter what, we're going to be there. Only three confirmed so far, but is there a responsibility? Especially with baseball being so hot right now? Like we, we are big baseball fans, so we're always going to be a little biased. But I feel like with the stars of the game, the Shohei Ohtani's, the Aaron judges, the Lindors and the Cal Rawlies and the Bryce Harpers and the Tatis Juniors and the schools and Skeens and baseball is in a moment right now where all these young stars are represented. It's like the 80s where every team had the guy you knew who was their starting lineup. Figure baseball's hot right now. Think it's a bad time for these stars to be sitting out the derby. I feel like baseball could kick every other sport and then nuts right now if they were like, you know what.
Covino
We'Re gonna do our stepped up, we're.
Rich
Do our derby and guess who's in it? Ohtani, Judge Alonzo.
Covino
You know, I won't debate that. But I do completely understand why they shy away from it.
Rich
It messes up people's swings.
Covino
The old Bobby, it's happened multiple times, but I call it the old Bobby Abreu because he went in there having a season, came out like he forgot how to swing because he got some bad habits formed for taking monster hacks.
Rich
But I mean did some of the great moments with Robbie Cano and his dad and the Mer Fielder, Prince and Cecil celebrated together. There's been great moments for the derby. And I'm sure this year. This year is going to be great too. Listen, Cal Raleigh, Acuna Jr, James woods are just three of the names and those are three stars. I'm just saying if you told me the Home Run Derby was Shohei, Judge Schwaber, Pete Alonzo, Cal Rally. Like if you an Acuna Jr. Because he's a hometown guy. If you told me that, I'd be like, oh my God.
Covino
Throw in Bryce Harper about last year's.
Danny G
Winner to Oscar Hernandez and Te Oscar.
Covino
Throw in you know who's going to end up doing a guy like Jazz Chisholm because he's. He could hit bombs and he's just pumped to be there. So you can be, hey, Jazz, why don't you join?
Rich
But I don't look at Jazz as a whole guy. Same.
Covino
Exactly. That's what makes it a little more underwhelming than it should be. And by the way, but we come back every time and we say that it's the most underrated sporting event.
Rich
Yeah.
Covino
That we go to. It's so much fun. I don't know if you enjoy it on tv, but they're just hitting bombs. And to be there is electric. It's so much fun when you're there.
Rich
I have a rule here. How about you should have to be top 10 in the category.
Covino
Yeah. I think they should set some rules and parameters there. Yeah. Because otherwise you're like, why am I caring about this guy hitting home runs? Not even a home run hitter.
Rich
Now listen, James Tough though.
Covino
I mean, this is the criticism that the NBA James Wood, 23 Homer.
Rich
So he belongs there. And you know what? Acuna Jr. Not in your league leaders. But he's the hometown guy. And of course Cal Raleigh leading the league with 35. But Judge Ohtani, Schwerber, PCA. What's up, Cubbies, Crow, Armstrong, get him in there. I just feel like there's an opportunity for baseball. Like I said, you really want to.
Covino
Take a chance to show hey. And judge the faces of baseball. Like coming last Place pulling oblique or something stupid because they're doing this contest or like, that's why it doesn't happen. They're too valuable.
Rich
I know. I'm just saying, like baseball, I still think it's a great thing. Not just because we're going there, but do.
Covino
But again, we're talking about how we undermine the athleticism in tennis. I think we underestimate the endurance involved and potential injury involved in just taking hack after hack after hack after hack.
Rich
But because I like baseball more than basketball, I can't talk out of both sides of my mouth. I can't. I'm not Terry Fader.
Covino
You can if you try.
Rich
I can't talk out of both sides of my mouth. I can't on one hand be like, derby's great no matter what. Because it is. But what's the biggest criticism of the NBA slam dunk contest? The three point shootout? All these things. It's like, well, where's the. Where's the stars? Mac McClunk? Give me a freaking break.
Covino
You want the star powers?
Rich
So if we're going to criticize that.
Covino
That'S why I give Pete Alonzo lots.
Rich
Of prompts because he did it every year.
Covino
He doesn't back off on it.
Rich
Well, this year he's like, yeah, I'm just not going to do it this year. So I can't get hard on Polar Bear Pete because he's done it many times.
Covino
Yeah, he's not scared of the moment. Yeah. I think there's also. It's not just the risk. I think there's a lot of pressure on these dudes and it's just not worth it for him. Like an Aaron Judge. He's like, yeah, everyone's expecting me to win. And that's not necessarily maybe.
Rich
I know what you're saying, how he approached him. You're saying if Judge. You're saying if he hits like 11 home runs and he's out in the first round, it's like, Aaron Jones was out in the first round.
Covino
Cruiser. It ruins the mystique. Right.
Rich
So maybe there is more mystique. But again, I think the derby's great no matter what because these guys are all hitting bombs. I'm just thinking baseball at its height right now, which I feel like baseball ratings are up, numbers are up, attendance is up. Man, they really could put an exclamation point if they said the derby has Judge or Ohtani or both.
Covino
Maybe bring back some old retired stars just to see him hit some bombs.
Rich
Barry Bonds could get back up there.

I know a lot of cops. And they get asked all the time, have you ever had to shoot your gun? Sometimes the answer is yes. But there's a company dedicated to a future where the answer will always be no.
Rich
Across the country, cops called this Taser the Revolution.

But not everyone was convinced it was that simple.

Cops believed everything that Taser told me.

I'm your host and co president of this organization, Dr. Lea Tritate. On my new podcast, the Unwanted Sorority, we wade through transformation to peel back healing and reveal what it actually looks like and sounds like in real time. Each week I sit down with people who've lived through harmony, carried silence, and are now reshaping the systems that failed us. We're going to talk about the adultification of black girls mothering as resistance and the tools we use for healing. The Unwanted Sorority is a safe space, not a quiet space. So let's lock in. We're moving towards liberation together. Listen to the Unwanted Sorority. New episodes every Thursday on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast.
Rich
Now, do we got this guy lined up? Do we have Mr. Joey Chestnut on standby waiting to just say hi? He'll be here in a couple minutes.
Covino
I got some listener questions too. Curious to see how he's doing, how he deals with all the fame for real. Like it must be overwhelming to see all that feedback, to see all those posts afterward must be quite the thrill because your page is flooded with that.
Rich
But I wonder, you know what? Throw this down there if you, if you want to ask him when you are scrolling through social media, does he even like, you know, when it's your birthday on social Media how you have like, you know, thousands of people like happy birthday Cavino. And like you try to get back to everyone. When you win the hot dog eating contest, do you think he actually looks at his social media?
Covino
Absolutely.
Rich
Because every idiot includes part of the thrill of victory. Every idiot, including us, that has hung with him, met him or took a picture with him, post it and they're like, there's our guy.
Covino
Yeah, he has to be overwhelmed with the amount of feedback and you know, the people that are talking about him and about the event and it's just that one day and then, you know, he's back to, I don't say normal life, but yeah, he's, he's the biggest star of the day. It's crazy. Who's more American than Joey Chestnut?
Rich
I mean he brings us all together at a time where many people are not getting along. Now, while we wait for Joey. Do we got him Spot? He's coming.
Covino
Oh yeah, he's entering the room. We should have like a fanfare for him.
Rich
There he is, Joey Chestnut.
Covino
With glory and renown, we welcome back 17 time hot dog eating champion, the great, the goat, Joey Chestnut. What's up man?
Rich
How are you, Joey?
Danny G
Oh, good to be on with you guys again.
Covino
Thanks for making time, man.
Rich
Always good to see you. First of all, I gotta ask, how do we feel three days later we, we back to normal or what? Or is three days later still.
Danny G
I don't think I'll ever be normal. But I, yeah, I, I probably feel, yeah, I look pretty rough. I feel pretty rough still. I, yeah, yesterday was a long day of travel, but uh, you know, I'm back, sleep in my own bed, got my, you know, my dogs and yeah, I'm starting, I'm getting close to normal.
Rich
Joey Kavino and I were just saying we were curious if the day of the hot dog eating championship, those 24 hours surrounding the event, are you aware of how much you trend on social media? Are you watching and looking at all the memes and the post and every relish in it? Do you relish relish?
Covino
Pun intended? Yes.
Danny G
No, I, I, a little bit, but it's, I actually turn off my phone usually and I, I, it's, yeah, I'm kind of, I'm kind of, I get, I get overwhelmed. I'm actually a shy guy, so I don't look at that stuff too much.
Covino
It's overwhelming for us to see how much coverage you get for real. Like it's, it's a ton of coverage. Are you ever shocked to see who's talking about you or tweeting about you.
Danny G
Oh, oh, the whole time? Yeah. Like yeah, yesterday I started going through things and seeing what was said and like all the Mount Rushmore posts, those ones are, those ones like oh my God, those are embarrassing.
Covino
You know what? We were talking about that before the dominance that you hold even at your, what wasn't Your best, right. 70.5 but it was still enough to win by a landslide, By a lot and still impressive. But I know you were shooting for 80. When it comes to dominance, who else comes to mind for you growing up because there's such a gap between you and the next guy?
Danny G
Oh, dominance.
Covino
Oh, I said you and like Tyson and guys like that. When you think of dominance, who comes to mind?
Danny G
I think of Barry Bonds and he was just unapologetic. He was there just to be the best that he could and hit home runs and dominate. You look at, I mean every, everybody says Jordan but yeah, yeah, Jordan, but yeah, I, I don't know, it's to compare myself, it's weird to compare myself to other people. I, I, I, I eat. I, I, I got super lucky. I found something that I didn't even know I was going to be. Like this was my thing until I was 21 years old. Like all the other athlete, anybody who's a competitor, they knew like when they were five that that's what they were going to be doing.
Covino
Well, if you weren't Joey Chestnut, the seven time 17, 17, 17 time champion, what would you be doing?
Danny G
Oh my God, I'd still be, be working probably construction management. I went to school for civil engineering and I like seeing things being part of a big, big, big project. But I, yeah, I don't know what I'd be doing really. But I'd still be probably eating and drinking for fun quite a bit, let me tell you.
Rich
17 time winner, Joey Chestnut. Thanks for the post. 4th of July check in. We were thinking about it. When you win by such a large margin, you're around the same age as LeBron James and he's, he's, you know, just playing as, as well as he's ever played. You saw Tom Brady play till he was 45 years old. When you're winning by again, 20 hot dogs, is there any slowing down? Are you going to be the one that walks away eventually or can you do this for another 10 plus years or is that just too much on, on your body? You're 41 now, right?
Danny G
Yeah, I'm 41. I, the recovery, it takes longer. When I remember When I was younger, I'd be. Bounce, bounce back. After two days. It was. It was. The body was. Oh, my God, it was amazing. And I. These days it takes a little bit longer, and that's to be expected, but we'll see. As long. As long as I'm still able to bounce back, eventually I'll keep doing it, and I still love it. That audience out there, we're talking about 20,000 people New York. It's. It was great to be back.
Covino
Yeah. Chanting your name. Not only chanting, welcoming you back.
Rich
You know what I saw him get. This is awesome. Like, the walk into the, like, you know how, like, they'll show, like, the NBA players in the tunnel, walking entrance. I saw, like, the Joey Chestnut. He's arrived. He's here. That's. It's. It's really cool how they, how they demonstrated your comeback. And at no point, at no point did anyone think you weren't going to dominate this. In fact, is it wild to think that, you know, so many people were betting on your over under. How many, you know, people are wagering on how many hot dogs you'd win by. That's like a thing now.
Danny G
Yeah, the over under, man, that. That's the painful one. I. A lot. A lot of people bet the over, and I feel bad. I'm. Next year, I'm going to. I'm going to. Yeah, I'm going to put the work in. I know that when we do, it's. I'm going to figure it out, how to get, get, get that. Get to approach that record 76. Even though I'm older, I know there's a way I can do it.
Rich
Hey, Joey.
Covino
Actually, I have a listener question that goes with that. This is from Mercer man, who's also a competitive eater in training. He goes, what do you think was the reason that the eaters had trouble getting down the dogs this year? Because numbers. We were talking numbers. Numbers were sort of down for men and women. Were the buns stale or more dense? Or maybe the dogs were cooked too much and harder to swallow? Why were numbers down this year?
Danny G
You think it was a little weird? Yeah, the. I, I don't know. The dogs did taste a little different. There, There was. There's. I don't know if they cooked them ahead of time or what, but they were a little bit darker all the way around. I don't know what, what they. If they cooked them on a grill that was just too hot or something. I don't know. It was. There was something a little bit different about the dogs. I know Mickey, her numbers were off BY like, like 17 hot dogs. So, so as soon as I saw that her number was down by so much, I was like, oh, maybe there's something off. I, I was still fast as heck in the beginning but I, I just, I got, I, I was a fat man towards the end I slowed down and that's all on me. It was, it wasn't really the dogs. So I, I, next year I just gotta go. I'm coming in better shape I think.
Rich
Joey Chestnut hanging with Kavin on Rich in for Dan Patrick. Now most people look at their outlook, their calendar and oh, I got a work trip, a meeting. What, what's coming up over the next couple weeks for you? What is that? Is there a, do you have a competition on the horizon parade?
Covino
Right?
Rich
Like dude, you have a going to Disney World. What's up for Joey Chesa? What, what are we eating next or are you taking a little time out now?
Danny G
Now there's a. What do I got? Geez, I think I might have a little bit of time off. I'm gonna go visit a friend in Alaska at the end of the month, do some salmon fishing. But yeah, so I'm taking a little bit of time. There's a couple appearances I might, there's minor league baseball game I think on the 21st. I'll be in Lansing, Michigan. Yeah. Doing something up there. But uh, yeah, yeah, I'll be eating olive burgers.
Covino
That's what Danny G. Wants to. How many salmon could you eat at once? Ye, you know, we were talking about Andy Roddick saying that tennis takes more athleticism than any other sport. He was saying it's the hardest sport to play. And you were just talking about how tough it is to recover in your sport. What is the toughest part about your sport and what you do? Like the biggest misconception maybe?
Danny G
Oh, I think the hardest, the biggest thing is that I have to be fairly healthy. I love to eat, but when I, when I, it's this double edged sword. You have to be a big eater naturally, but the more you eat the, the harder it is to eat within those 10 minutes. So I, I have to really, I have to be somewhat fit and control my eating and go in absolutely empty. So, so it's, it's a lot of, it's a lot of contradiction. Yeah, you have to be a big.
Covino
Is it a mental battle all the time like to, to not overeat?
Danny G
Oh, it's, it's, yeah, I, I, I love to eat. Like my biggest thing is like, like I'm. I'm still like 14 pounds heavier than when I started the contest because I had a couple beer. I had some beers. My recovery after a contest is supposed to be super high fiber. No carbs, no starches. But if I start having any of those carbs, the weight really stays on me.
Rich
Joey, one last question. You're synonymous with hot dogs. Kavino and I always feel like pizza is the one thing that. So easy to overeat. Oh, it's so easy if you're, if you're having some drinks, watching a fight night with some of your buddies. Like, what is a reasonable amount of pizza you think for a grown man to eat?
Danny G
Well, it depends on the pie. It depends on the pizza.
Rich
Let's say like New York city style, like 8 slice.
Covino
8.
Rich
8 slices New York City pie?
Danny G
Yeah. Yeah. You're eating more. More than two thirds of the pie. Yeah, that's. Six slices is pretty normal.
Covino
Wow, that's pretty good, man. I should be a little more guilt free then.
Danny G
Yeah, but a lot of people, they, they. It's easy. Football games, it's like a three hour long thing. You're gonna. It's easy just to lose count.
Covino
Yeah.
Danny G
And a lot of people have parties where there's multiple. Where, where there's different boxes open. So it's, it's easy.
Rich
I'll.
Danny G
I'll go to a place. And there's more than one. Yeah. More than eight slices. Twelve. Twelve slices, probably. But it's. You just lose count.
Covino
Imagine being friends with Joey Chestnut and you're having a party. You always have to accommodate for this guy.
Rich
Little extra.
Covino
Yeah. An extra pie. Yeah.
Rich
Hey, Joey, we'll let you go. I know you're a busy man as you're getting ready for some downtime. Are you big. Are you a football guy or.
Danny G
No, I love football.
Rich
Who's your team? Because we're about to do a little NFL preview. Who's your team? I'm.
Danny G
I live in Indiana now, so I'm big time Colts. I still, I. Every year I go to a Buffalo Bills game. I'm hoping. Yeah, I'm always rooting for the Bills a little bit.
Rich
Josh Allen. This could be the year. And they're saying Daniel Jones could be making an impact in Indianapolis. So we'll get to all that. Joey, appreciate your time as always, man. Congrats again. 17 time winner.
Covino
Great to have you back.
Rich
As many championships as your Lakers, Danny.
Covino
That's right.
Rich
Look at that. Thank you, Joey.
Danny G
Thank you, guys.
Covino
I appreciate it.
Rich
Later, brother.
Covino
The goat Right there. Joey Chestnut, just far superior than anybody else. And by the way, I think his numbers are a little skewed. Six slices of pizza, you're a gavon, as they say. But I think at 4, that's when I'm like, hey, how many did you have? Because you never want to be the sloppiest guy, but I.
Rich
But I do.
Covino
Some guy had five. You're like, all right, well, I'm still good.
Rich
Well, I do feel like when you were a kid, when you were a little kid, your family would get one pie, one pizza for the family.
Covino
I always keep the secret that he ate one on the way home. He had a whole pie, maybe a whole pie.
Rich
Because I always thought, like, I had two siblings. So there were five of us. I'm like, how did one. The meth. It never. Method. Dad didn't eat in the 80s, the math wasn't meth. And as they say, well, dad ate.
Covino
A whole pie by himself on the way home and never told anybody. That might be the trick in itself.
Rich
Not to sound like a bunch of slobs, but like Danny G. I was. Sam, how many slices could you have? Like, if we got. We could all.
Covino
We could only to pie, but it's. How many should you have?
Danny G
Yeah, nowadays I stop after the third piece.
Covino
Yeah, I stop at four. I hate myself. So I could eat the whole thing, but at 4, that's where I'm like, all right, I maxed out.
Rich
You could. He said six, but I'm saying if you wanted six to eight or 12. Like, yeah, if the night. If calories didn't matter and health wasn't a thing, you could easily put down a whole pizza.
Danny G
Put down a medium by yourself.
Covino
Thin crust, you could eat a whole pizza easily. Easy, easy. Thick crust. You could do a medium by yourself.
Danny G
If you're not worried about gaining weight.
Covino
But the trick is this. It's like, you know, you gotta. You can't be the worst guy in your crew. So if the worst guy in your crew had five slices, you had four, you're good.
Rich
That's. That's the Kavino.
Covino
That's my rule, man.
Rich
Danny, how many times has Kavino been.
Covino
I never have.
Rich
How many wings you have? He's always counting.
Covino
I don't want to have the most every event.
Danny G
I know the question is coming. Hey, how many did you have?
Covino
The rule applies for alcohol, too. It's like, how many drinks did you have? Good, cuz you're going to be the stupidest by the end of the night.
Rich
Perfect.
Covino
All right. And keep it. Always keep it a little, little less.
