I got to ask you like the most immature, dumb question, please. And it's a fun question because I was talking about this with one of the dads from my kids little league team yesterday. If you were watching the Thunder and the Nuggies, Jamal Murray going off 25 points and he was sick, not feeling well. You know, sometimes big game players come up in big spots, especially when they're not feeling so hot, right?

Kind of how I feel today. It's a big day, we're filling in and I feel a little out of it. You know, why not? Because I'm sick. Because I stuffed my face yesterday. So I'm like, oh, one too many meat to balls. Yeah. Over enthused. Oh, and waking up so early, my bathroom schedule's off. So I'm Really?

I doubt this happened. But the thought is not as outrageous and goofy as you think. Okay, I bet it's happened before because people are looking for that edge like you described and sabotage and want to take people down. And it might be someone at the office, might be someone at the warehouse, might be someone at the oil patch, wherever you are, and you're trying to get ahead of that guy, the sales dude. You might have done something sneaky and creepy actually to bring him down. And when you're this competitive, I don't think it's impossible.

It'S improbable that it happened.

Isn't it the plotline of every dumb comedy? Like, the bad guy tries to get in the way of the good guy. Like, oh, he's stuck in traffic, or, oh, don't let him get to the conference. I'm just saying it's not wild.

It's not something crazy. It's not a wild thought. But hey, last night, do you think.

I'm just saying yesterday was a biggie. We talked about it. I'm never the guy that's like, told you so. But OKC was favored by six yesterday. And I remember saying, like, not so fast. This game's in Denver. I know OKC yesterday in Vegas, they were still the odds on favorite to win the NBA title. I don't know what that looks like today. I know the Knicks and the T Wolves are. We're both plus 600, but yesterday they had OKC at minus 1. 40. I think when you go to a game seven, those odds have been adjusted. But forget that series. Let's go to New York City tonight.

By the way, you know who I wouldn't put this past, by the way, to wrap up your previous thought? Rudy Gobert, because I think he's out to get everybody with his germs.

Yeah, she set him up for it. It's not impossible. It's improbable. So funny thought, though, because people are willing to take all sorts of risks for that edge. No doubt.

And that was the year Mike Scott was untouchable.

He was on that squad. Do you remember there was speculation, yo, is Mike Scott scuffing the ball like he's unhittable?

That was a big squad, man. That Astros team was good, but they were going to have to face Mike Scott in a game seven. So when they were in extra innings in game six, there was a pressure of like, yo, you got to win now, Mets, because if you face Mike Scott in game seven, I don't know if you could beat him. And I feel that way tonight. About the New York Knicks, if you want to talk New York Sports, my.

Buddy'S already reaching out to me. Got a few east coast friends out here in la, and I'm like, dude, what are we doing for the game tonight? I'm like, well, I'm waking up really for Dan Patrick, so I might be taking a nap later. But, yeah, we got to get together. Got to do something. So much on the line. Might be the biggest night in a long time for New York Sports with the Yankees, Mets going on tonight, and of course, the Knicks. But, Rich, I think what brings the Celtics closer together, why they're so scary is because they don't. They don't have Jayson Tatum. And I feel that forces everybody to step up and play harder, and they have a chip on their shoulder as a result. I'll give you a work analogy. Let's say it's the Covino and Rich show. We've been doing this forever. Covino and Rich here on Fox Sports Radio. Four plus years, Right? But we've been working together. If Rich out of nowhere is like Kavino, I can't make it. It's not that there's extra pressure on me, but I know deep down, subconsciously, well, if Rich isn't here now, I really got to bring it.

When you throw more factors into the mix like that, you really see people step up in different ways. It's also to tie it to sports. The Brett Favre theory, where he had his biggest game on his toughest night because he was doing it for his dad who passed away. Now, I'm not saying, you know, Tatum's never coming back, but it's reason to play for reason to rally around. I don't think you want to let another team who has all this going for them, this bonding moment, you don't want to let them gain momentum. Like you said that.

There's a documentary coming out on Netflix, four days.

It points out everything that makes this guy awful. You bring up people rallying around people. I think you don't want to admit it. As a Yankees fan, it's going to be tough for you guys to win the World Series this year without Gert Cole. However, if you go back a couple of years, in 2021, the Atlanta Braves won the World Series despite Ronald Acuna Jr. Being hurt at a pivotal point and missing the season.

[Dan Patrick]

So times losing a key player actually makes the team better. That sounds crazy and ridiculous, but losing Juan Soto, for example, really did make the Yankees lineup better, forced them to make other moves. Other players had to step up. You're a more well rounded team as opposed to relying on one player or expecting one player to bring it. So if the Celtics are able to rally around this, yeah, they're a dangerous squad still. And you're seeing it. So it puts that much pressure on what the Knicks have to do, which is win at home. And it brings again the question up. Is this the biggest night at the garden in the 21st century?

[Rich Davis]

That's really the year 2000. Because when you think about what Dane Cook selling out the Garden, Sebastian Maniscalco.

[Dan Patrick]

Yeah, sold out 10 times. Why would you do that? I think he sold 10 nights out.

[Rich Davis]

I'm telling you.

[Dan Patrick]

Didn't he play like 10 shows since.

[Rich Davis]

The year 2000, Conan O' Brien style, there hasn't been, there hasn't been an event of this magnitude at the Garden because everything you think of, whether it was a big fight night, all those. All those.

I remember the last time was electric. Sports related.

Linsanity, yeah, because we lived it. Rich and I, we live in la. We're live from the barrios of the west side right now, but we're live from the mean street of la.

Covino, que talvatoloco. So we live in LA now, but we're from the east coast. And not even just the garden, just the city itself was electric. Boogie, yuggy oogie. When Linsanity was going on, that's how real it was. Like it really was a huge moment. It may have been a passing, fleeting two weeks for you. You're like, yeah, I remember that. I mean those documentaries you've seen about Linsanity was. Was real and the garden was rocking the way it should be. When that happened, that was insane.

I hate to say it because you know, we are New Yorkers originally. You know, we're original New Yorkers.

I mean, I'm from race to be technical. I'm a Joyce boy. I'm a New Yorker drinking my coffee. Oh, but here you grow up. New York's your backyard, your playground and where we worked.

So I see you're a Jersey guy. I'm actually a New Yorker and I look at it and say other than a stand up comedy special and linsanity, maybe the debut of Carmelo Anthony because he was like a hometown guy and people loved him.

I hate agreeing with this guy, but Rich is right there.

He didn't really win with the Knicks the way they wanted him to or we expected, but we were there for his debut and it was electric. We were there. It was one of the few times we went to a big game like that. And I remember everybody was super pumped about it.

So the Nosebleeds tonight. Seat Geek, StubHub, all your sites. 8hundo for like a, you know, a high up. But then again, it's a garden. It's not that big, but 800 bucks for what you would call the nosebleed. So, yeah, that's it. That's the ticket.

I mean, you got to, like, run that one by the wifey maybe. Yeah, that's it. Maybe.

Trying to think of something bigger than that because again, tonight is going to be electric. It's going to be what New York's supposed to be, the world's most famous arena. You have to factor in the fans tonight, the intimidation factor. It's going to be loud. Home court advantage will be in effect, at least you hope.

You're excited about your team and who they're playing and oh, man. But to be cheering for the social media team, man, the social media department, they're insane, right? Who cares? These videos are corny and they're meant for like, teenagers. Are you really into Minecraft?

No, but what I'm saying is the same way the NFL draft went from a couple old guys smoking cigars in a wood paneled basement, Bro, I watched back.

Well, that's kind of cool. A team that's going to get a little more buzz this year because, you know, we're hoping and thinking next step, next level stuff for Caleb Williams and I gotta ask. Distraction unnecessary. Who cares? He's there now. But if you don't know the story, Last hour, we sort of set this up. Caleb Williams and his dad, there's a book coming out. And in this book, his dad said, chicago is Wickersham.

What other job sectors are there where the employer chooses you? But you don't get to choose the employer. Usually it's a two day.

She never said. She let me go out and make my own choices and apply to wherever. And I like, if you're a Bears fan, wouldn't you just be like, I don't know if Daddy Williams is wrong here because it's kind of like we haven't had a, like a really, like a big time quarterback for about what, 40 years?

Hey, let me ask you this.

Since Jim McMahon had sunglasses on and was doing the Super Bowl Shuffle, the Bears haven't had, they've had like Rex.

Grossman, they've had Jay Cutler. They've had a little bit of, a little, a little sprinkle of success with Mitch Trubisky. But like, they haven't had, you know, someone like obviously, like, you know, Patrick Mahomes or a Josh Allen.

[Dan Patrick]

Yeah. They haven't had a superstar.

[Stacey Vanek Smith]

They haven't had a superstar for a long time.

[Dan Patrick]

And he has this type of potential for sure. But do twist and say, regardless of what he thought previously, do you twist.

It and say, dad said, do you twist it and say, yo, man, like, there's been times where I think it's fair when someone's like, you know, I came here and didn't think I was gonna love it, but you know what? Now I do.

[Dan Patrick]

Yeah. Cuz that's believable. Where you live right now, was that your first choice? No. You're like, ah, man, the place I really wanted, someone else bought it. But you know what? I got this place and I made it my own. And I'm really happy. Worked out for the best. I can't. I can't even imagine living in that other place, because this place, man, I absolutely love it. You don't feel that way about certain things in your life?

Some people have their eyes set on a college when they're a young kid, right? Like, absolutely, I want to go to Penn State. And then you don't get in and you're like, well, I went to Rutgers. But you know what? I met my wife and my best friends at Rutgers.

[Dan Patrick]

You know what? The universe had a different plan and it worked out. And, yeah, I can't even imagine so playing anywhere else. I believe that to be true. It doesn't matter at all. It's a. It's a fun story, but. And it's cool to know that the truth and the backstory, but I don't think it matters to the fans or. Or what his output is going to be or his legacy is going to be with the Bears at all.

By the way, if you really want to play stat, boy, I would say 90% of people in sports don't play for the team they really wanted to because they all had childhood affiliations that they rooted for. So they were probably like, yeah, I wish one day I could play for the Steelers. That didn't happen for everybody, you know?

When I met my hero, Joe Montana, years ago, I was like, joe, do you know how much you meant to me? In fact, I told Joe Montana that I wore his pajamas when I was a kid. That was embarrassing.

You know what he said? I remember I was there. He goes, I hope you still don't wear them.

[Rich Davis]

I love Joe Montana. As a little boy, I had the starting lineup figure. I had a poster on my wall until I graduated to my Cindy Crawford poster in my bedroom was Joe Montana. And when he told me, he's like, yeah, I was always sort of a Steelers guy. I'm like, what? He goes, yeah, I played for the Niners, but I was a Steelers fan.

[Dan Patrick]

No, that's what I mean. You think the 49ers were his first choice? No, he was super pumped about it, made the best of it, and he became a 49er. But it wasn't like his first thought or dream, I doubt. So it's not that really big of a story, even though it is.

[Rich Davis]

Layer a waste. Do Bears fans care? You're going to say no. Layer 2. Just happy they have them now in life, your. Your job, your relationship, opportunities you've got personally and professionally. Are you interested at all in the backstory of, like, well, we were going to hire this guy, but we didn't, so we went with you. Hey, I wanted to date this guy.

It's interesting. Like, before I got into radio, I was waiting tables at Bennigan's, and I was this close to becoming a firefighter because I thought my radio career would never prosper. And look at me now. And for Dan Patrick.

Because this Caleb Williams story might just be the funny happy ending where when you guys finally make some playoff runs and maybe get there, maybe when your first super bowl since the Super Bowl Shuffle, you'll go back and be like. And it's so funny. Caleb didn't even want to be here. Because that is the backstory, my friends, to. That's the backstory to New York Mets legend Keith Hernandez. Keith Hernandez, who has been part of the Mets organization for 40 plus years. He's one of the most beloved players in organization history. He's part of their broadcast team for the last 20 years.

Yeah. And he snubbed us when we worked at sny.

[Rich Davis]

And I love Keith Hernandez.

[Dan Patrick]

No, that's cool.

[Rich Davis]

But no Keith Hernandez. But you know what? Talks about, openly talks about when he was traded from Whitey Herzog's Cardinals to the Mets, he thought about, like, I may quit Mets.

Ugh.

They stunk.

And it worked out for the best.

And he ends up becoming.

Everybody loves him there. Yeah, he's the face of the franchise. He's the dude. He's the guy everybody rolls out the red carpet for. Keith. He's one of the legends.

And it's no. It's no secret that when he got traded from the Cardinals, he was an MVP for St. Louis.

Yeah, he didn't want to go there.

He. He told his agent, like, do whatever you can to stop this.

But again, Rich, you've said it before. It's part of the story. It doesn't make it bad. It makes it actually more interesting. When you ask people about their relationships, how much pride, how much fun does the woman usually. It's usually the woman who says something like this. And I say this respectfully. Oh, my God. When I met Sam, it's like I kind of hated him. And then I really hated him. Like, I was like, no. Ew. And then, oh, my God, I got to know him and he's the best. And then he asked me out. And then, you know, now we're in love and now we're married. But it's always that part of the story that pulls you in, like, oh, wow, yeah, you hated him, right? That's how Caleb Williams felt.

I'll be honest.

But again, every great story starts that way.

I'll pat you on the back because for the rest of the weekend, you and I are not pals because of the Met Yankees. But that is so freaking accurate. How many relationships are like, oh, my.

God, I couldn't stand him. He was so full of himself.

When we first met, I was like, ew. And then the girl's like, and then I loved him. And you know what, Chicago? There's your Caleb Williams front, front end of your story. Hopefully the back end of your story. I like a nice back end who does. Hopefully the back end of that story for Chicago is a Super bowl at some point with this guy. And then you'll be.

He'll make a speech like, you know, man, when I first heard about, you know, I wasn't playing Chicago, I know how to feel about it.

And you remember, even my pop said, you don't want to go.

Like, man, I don't know if this is best for you, but. But Chicago, you changed my life. I love you.

And he's got Ben Johnson. He's got a guy who was one of the best play callers in the NFL the last few seasons with the Detroit Lions. So the hardware of Chicago was their reputation and just the franchise in general and not having great quarterbacks for so long. The software's Ben Johnson.
