What others dismiss as niche, we embrace as core. There's so many stories out there and if you can find a way to curate and help the right person discover the right content. The term that we always hear from our audience is that they feel seen.
Dan Patrick
Listen to Good company on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. You are listening to the Dan Patrick show on Fox Sports Radio. Knicks over the Celtics 3 1. Jayson Tatum with an injury. No update on that. He'll probably be having an MRI this morning, but they might have to wait until the swelling goes down. Whether it's a ankle or an achilles. The Timberwolves up 31 on the warriors and the Dallas Mavericks win the NBA draft lottery, followed by the Spurs 76ers and the Hornets. It's one of those moments where you're watching and you're watching it, it almost slowed down. I, I'm watching. I'm going to. Oh my goodness. So Utah's out and Washington sound. New Orleans is out. Okay. And let's go to break. And then they come back. I go, don't be damn. Dallas is going to win the NBA draft lottery. And we gave you a heads up yesterday. Here is Fritzi on the show. All right, Todd, you are going to manipulate the draft lottery. What is in the best interest of the NBA? My initial thought was from Durham to Charlotte that Cooper stays in North Carolina and the Hornets get the pick. But I'm actually going to go with the Mavericks after the fans got blindsided by that Luker deal. I'd like to see Flag go to the Dallas Mavericks. All right. Okay. You kind of picked two there, but you did, you know, I guess finally focus on the Dallas Mavericks. So I'm going to give you credit. I in fact I text that to the Dan Ants. I said, Fritz, he got it right. Ish. And Dallas gets their man. But you know, there's going to be people who say conspiracy theory or why would you, you know, do something go out of your way to help the Dallas Mavericks? As our good buddy Vincent Goodwill says, I've watched the lottery, picked up the ping pong balls myself to see how they they're weighed. Etc. Not only is draft rigging in that way really hard to do, it's also a federal. We don't want to, you know, have something like that get in the way of our conspiracy theories. But when you do think about it, there are times when you go things that make you go so Patrick Ewing going to the Knicks, Derrick Rose going to the Bulls should get a little more emphasis here because they had like a 1.8% chance to get him. And he goes to his hometown. LeBron goes to his hometown. The Dallas Mavericks don't deserve this. But then they get Cooper Flag, and I'm thinking, Cooper Flagg is there for the lottery, and he's got to be thinking, please, not Washington. Please not Washington. No offense to Washington, D.C. of course, but, you know, he goes to Dallas, and you do have some veterans there. I think that will help. I don't think the focus will necessarily be on just him. You get A.D. you get Kyrie. You know, they got some younger big men, too. And I think he might be able to ease in a little bit better with a place like Dallas, as opposed to Utah, where he'd be singled out, and certainly with Washington, D.C. but the Mavericks win the lottery and let the conspiracy theories resume. Yes, Paul, they were immediate yesterday. Whether online or just walking into people outside my house, people like, oh, this is classic NBA. They convinced the Mavericks to quietly trade Luca to the Lakers and do him a solid on the back end. And, I mean, these were grown men walking up to me. I know. Yes. The conspiracy theories were so prevalent that we actually did it on our show yesterday with that clip. You just. If we were to manipulate the draft, where would we put them? That's how far ahead everybody was on. Let's see how they rigged this. Yeah, yeah. And I didn't even think, but there I saw some of the threads that said, oh, I see what the NBA did. You know, the Mavericks did the Lakers a solid, gave them their future with Luca. Well, we got to do something nice for them. We're going to give them Cooper Flag. Also, the speculation on where Giannis is going to go. He just said he would be open to a trade. He'd be open to it. Now, that's a polite way of saying, you can trade me or we're going to trade me. I'll decide where I want to go. But, you know, hopefully it'll benefit you guys because the window is closed. You know, Dame time is. Is over. That clock stopped now with Giannis at 30. And there were a lot of analysts who, you know, they had trade scenarios for the Bucks and the San Antonio Spurs. And I was like, why San Antonio for Giannis? If I'm San Antonio and I have de' Aaron Fox, Stefan Castle was the rookie of the year. I got Victor Wembanyama. I just build it, just add a little bit more. You're going to need another veteran. You're going to need somebody who's probably in their late 20s, early 30s. And then, you know, that'll be a steadying force that you're going to have. I said, from the time that they drafted Wembanyama, just get a point guard. Well, they have a couple of them that will, you know, help his growth. But they have the second pick in the draft, and Ace Bailey might be the guy. Ron Harper's son might be the guy. And I did watch a little bit. I watched more Rutgers basketball than I should have. And these guys, while they're great, they didn't even make the tournament. They. They have potential. Potential means that you haven't done anything. And I think that's the scary part of, okay, you can add them. Is that really going to change your fortunes? And San Antonio has two draft picks, I think the second and the 14th. You know, maybe you can pair that together. Maybe you can put together a package. Maybe you could get some. Some pieces there. But I think San Antonio, you know, quietly did well last night. And, you know, we go back to the teams that lost, the teams that had 14% chance. You know, it was the lottery. Fair. Well, is tanking fair? You know, that's the problem I have that you had teams that tried not to win. Maybe they weren't trying to lose as much as they were trying not to win. I know it's semantics here, but, you know, we've gone through a lot of iterations of the NBA draft lottery, and I don't know what is considered fair, but is this five consecutive years, that team with the worst record didn't get the number one pick in the. The lottery in the draft. But I don't know what the probability of that is of the worst team is not getting the number one pick in the draft. All right, we'll come up with a poll question. Obviously, with the Knicks situation, Jayson Tatum, we don't know the severity. And look, can we speculate on how he reacted to the injury? Look more of an Achilles than an ankle or even a knee, but even the pain reaction, and I don't know if it's the pain of. I'm. I know I'm not going to be able to help my team or the actual pain of the injury, because I've been around people, I've mentioned this before, played hoops with a guy who blew out both Achilles on the same right at the same moment, and he was in tremendous pain. But then I see Aaron Rodgers or Kevin Durant or Kobe. You know, everybody reacts differently to this. But my reaction when I saw it was that look like an Achilles. Now, Boston can still win this series. Like, you gotta, you gotta approach this as they're going to be dangerous. And sometimes you're more dangerous because you know what Derek White's going to say, I'll take up the shooting slack. Peyton Pritchard, you know, maybe Porzingis plays a big game. Drew Holiday, we're waiting for him. Like, they, they have a deep team and you probably have six guys who can get you 25 points on any given night. But I, if I'm a Knicks fan, wouldn't look at this and say we're going to the Eastern Conference finals because Boston is a great team. And. But, you know, we're going to remember these playoffs for injuries because you have Steph Curry out. That's affected that series. Jason Tatum perhaps out. Look at all the injuries with the Cleveland Cavaliers. I mean, yes, this does hurt the defending champs. I don't think anybody's sympathetic about the Cavaliers, and they had more injuries than Boston does, and they had the best record in the East. But I hate seeing Jason Tatum, who was having a incredible game, going toe to toe with Jalen Brunson. But Boston can still win this series. And I think sometimes when that, that star is out, you, you ease up a little bit here. And if you're the Knicks, you. You cannot, you cannot go in overconfident. You know, you have to go after them and you have to take them out, because if you don't, they're. They're going to have some confidence here. And we've seen this so many times. Star player goes out, everybody rallies. Now the question is, how long can you rally for? It's like Golden State. I thought Golden State was going to win. Not last night, the previous game. And I said if they don't win that game, then they're not winning this series. And I don't think Steph Curry's coming back. But last night they got roughed up. And it looks like, you know, that series is going to end maybe one more game, but we're going to look back on these playoffs and probably single out. The one thing is injuries change the entire landscape here of who's going to win the title, who's going to play for the title. Oklahoma City's been healthy. You know, they got Chad Holmgren back. They've been healthy for the most part. Denver, I think, is just tired. I think Joker is tired. Now. That's not an excuse, but you can watch somebody be tired. And OKC's done a lot. They've done a really good job there. And yes. Have I talked about great players stepping up? Yes. And Joker had better step up. Jimmy Butler didn't step up. You know, this is playoff, Jimmy. You know, I can't sit there and go, oh, I'm going to count on Buddy Healed. I shouldn't be counting on Buddy Healed. I should be counting on Jimmy Butler. But Golden State, they're wounded and they're not going to go much further than this. Seaton, what's the poll question today? Well, I mean, we can start right there with the draft lottery, I think. Oh, okay. All right. Right. Actually, we have a bunch here from the tow too. I don't know if you really want to get into that this early on Tuesday. Fritzi is a. Is a new brand of Todd. How about Fritzs after the break? Because that usually sends us in a direction where it's kind of hard for me to get back on the road. Do you have. This is true? Yeah, this is true. Yeah. I mean, I've seen some of the samples here of questions that Todd has had. By the way, I already have NBA title odds for next year. How does that happen? DraftKings just sent me the odds for winning the NBA title next year. Okay, I'll have those for you. Coming up, somebody on social media submitted if Nico Harrison presented Anthony Davis and Cooper flag for Luka Doncic, would you do it? Oh my God. That's funny. That's essentially. Yes. Yes. Mass tough. Yeah. Damn. Yikes. Like to the. The end of the season is, hey, so if we could all just try a little harder, maybe work on getting back in shape, that'd be cool. Here's something to consider. And I don't know if many people have singled this out in that there was a play in game between Dallas and Memphis. This is in April. Memphis beat Dallas like 120 to 106. Knocked Dallas out. Dallas goes into the lottery. Also, I believe there was a coin flip the the Bulls and the Mavericks. And the Mavericks won the coin toss and their percentage was 1.8, I believe, and the bulls 1.7%. That's right, Dan. The Mavericks based off a coin flip with the Bulls were in the 11 spot. The Bulls were in the 12th spot. So two different breaks had to happen for the Mavericks to get this. Things that make you go just like a meaningless game against Memphis and you're like, okay, Dallas, bunch of injuries, they lost and now they're out and you win a coin toss to improve your odds. Now, granted 1.8 to 1.7, but who knows? Yes, Paul, that's what's bothering people as well. Beyond conspiracy. It's like, do the Mavericks deserve this good luck after how maybe questionable it was with the Luca trade? No.
Greg Anthony
No.
Dan Patrick
That's what bothers a lot of people. Yeah. They don't deserve this. No. But how is Nico Harrison being like he had nothing to do with this, but he's going to benefit from this as the GM of the Mavericks. Yes. Seaton. Right. And given the track record. Right. I'm not. I wouldn't be shocked if they traded out of that pick or. Or they take like Dylan Harper or Ace Bailey.
Paul Pabst
We re looked at it and I.
Dan Patrick
Would not be surprised. You know, we didn't want another white superstar here. You know, we're going to trade. You know, we got Ace Bailey here. We got everything we need. Yes, Paulie, he was Cooper flag with the umlaut from Germany. Hey, they got their Dirk nit Cooper flog love him. The dark issues in town. He looks like me. Christopher Mad Dog Russo, host of Mad dog unleashed on SiriusXM Channel 82, host of ESPN's First Take and Mad Dog Sports Radio channel and Mad Dog unleashed, weekdays at 3 Eastern. Also, you can see him on First Take with Stephen A. Smith. Are you a conspiracy theorist when it comes to sports?
Dan Flores
Well, you're talking about the Mavericks. I mean, it is a little crazy. I mean, a 1.8% chance to get the lottery and to win the lottery, and they get it. You know, I understand they're so worried about tanking. But Danny, isn't there something wrong when Utah, Washington and Charlotte can't win the freaking lottery or don't have a chance to get the top three picks. Isn't that. Isn't that wrong in sports? And I understand they're worried about these teams at 20 games to go, not caring, which is an indictment in itself. But isn't that. Isn't it time maybe we pass on the lottery and give those worst teams the best chance to get the 1 pick? Why don't we just do the lottery with the three or four records and not include Dallas or Houston? That was a trade, but you know what I'm saying? To give the worst teams the chance to get. I mean, really. I mean, that is a little rough. And last year, obviously, Atlanta won the lottery. They had a 3% chance to win, so. And, you know, it all starts with Ewing in 85. With Stern, it was a TV show at first. They get a little TV juice. But, you know, am I a conspiracy theory theorist? No. But I think you and I both agree it doesn't look good for the NBA that the Mavericks win the lottery after they trade Luca. You know, here's what my 21 year old said, dad, somebody must have told Nico Harrison, do us a favor, get Luca to a big market, and we'll figure out a way for you to get the number one pick in the draft. I mean, that's what it leads to. That's what it leads to.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. But you start to look at it and go, okay, LeBron went to his hometown. Derrick Rose went to his hometown. Ewing goes to the Knicks. Everything that was attached to that. Were you. Were you on the air in 85?
Dan Flores
Not in New York. Okay, I was in Orlando. I don't remember. Everybody remembers the great picture of the busher who was all excited and Ewing and, you know, there was a lot of people who thought that was rigged. You and I, you know, are good sports fans. We don't think it's rigged, but it doesn't look good. And I, again, Utah, Washington, and Charlotte earned it. They deserve to have the top three, four picks in a draft. They have a. I mean, what did Utah get? The sixth pick, fifth pick. Charlotte got the sixth, seventh pick. And there's only four or five guys who make a big difference anyway. Flag is one of them. And he ends up going to the team that doesn't really need him. You know, with Kyrie and with the front court and of course, Anthony Davis, it looks bad for the NBA and the idea that we got to make sure we put a lottery in so the San Antonio spurs don't tank which what they did to get Duncan is, is really an indictment on the whole sport. Isn't the idea to try to go out there when every game that you play, it's an indictment of the whole sport?
Dan Patrick
How about instead of a final four, you have the bottom four and you have the bottom four teams play for the right to have the number one pick. I have to incentivize some of these teams because Mark Cuban got fined $600,000 when he was on our show a couple of years ago by saying that basically it was a front office tanking that they were guilty of. So that's where you know, the players who are playing are going to play hard. You just don't put the best players out there.
Dan Flores
Correct.
Dan Patrick
Play hard. Is there a way to incentivize teams? Let's say once you get eliminated, the number of wins you have after you get eliminated will create the order, the draft order.
Dan Flores
And that's a good point, something like that, you know, to avoid these teams just, you know, basically throwing up their hands in the last 10, 12, 13 games of the year. Yeah, you would think there's a element of it that they can do something and it's a TV show. They like the drama, they like the cards up. It's a TV show. And the NBA should eliminate the idea that they're going to have a TV show to determine who goes out there and gets the number and gets the card flipped. I mean, it really isn't. I mean, Dallas wins the lottery. I mean, San Antonio gets the second pick. I mean really, I mean, come. Why don't we just give the spurs six players for crying out loud. It looks very bad for the NBA. I don't know and I don't believe it is a conspiracy. I'm with you. But it, it looks, perception is awful. And if I got a 23 year old who's a good NBA fan and a good sports fan, if he says that to me at 9 o' clock last night, that's a problem. That is a problem.
Dan Patrick
Christopher Mad Dog Russo, host of Mad Dog Unleashed. And you can also see him on First Take, usually every Wednesday with Stephen A. Smith. I likened the spotlight to vitamin D. You know, some of us, you know, getting out and getting sunshine. The spotlight is vitamin D to Jalen Brunson. He seems to just, he absorbs it. And you know, once again when you, you're around him, you stand next to him like you're going, that guy is going off for, you know, this is his, what, 17th time he's had 30 or more points in a playoff game.
Dan Flores
Yeah, he's not a tremendous shot. He kept a minute last night. He had that great third quarter with the 18 points and. Yeah, I just heard you there a little while ago, Tatum. I mean, it's a horrific, probably a bad injury. I don't think they've announced anything yet, and I hate to see. We all hate to see it. He's. He's a great player. But the Knicks are going to win that. That. I don't want to hear a Celtic fan say, well, we could have. No, the game was over. I mean, it was 113 to 104 when he got hurt. The Knicks won that game in the third quarter. They got offense. But Brunson has been incredible. You're 100% right. I mean, nobody saw this. I say one thing that's interesting. If you go back to that Dallas Utah series when he was a maverick in the first half of it about what it was a four or five years ago, he played. Luca was out. He played really well in that series. Obviously, Leon rose short and then with Luca, came back in the second half of the series and they beat the Star, beat the Jazz in six games. But Brunson in the first half of that series did an incredible job. I've heard he's a great guy. I mean, it seems like he's even like the commercial he does, like the way he handles it with defenseo. I mean, listen, last night, he was great. He gets to his spots. I am shocked. I thought after the Celtics won game three, they were going to figure out a way to get back and win this series. I, you know, I'm not shocked about Cleveland. I thought Cleveland was a paper tiger. I thought they were a regular season team. I think Indiana's very underrated. That series isn't over yet. But I'm not shocked. They're up 3:1. I think we're all shocked that the Knicks are up 3:1. And now they're going to, obviously, you know, he's not going to play. So they're going to figure out a way to win that series. You know, and I said yesterday on my show there, Dan, I guess I was wrong. I thought there were six teams that had a chance to win a championship. It was wide open. I have not been that impressed with Oklahoma City. I am not that impressed with Denver. You know, the Celtics have been vulnerable. And the two teams, I said, I don't think they can win a championship with the warriors and the Knicks. Maybe I got it wrong. Maybe the Knicks will win the NBA title after all is said and done. Because they got four guys yesterday who all scored and they, they steamrolled. They threw the. They threw these. To quote Lupica, they threw the Celtics on a flight of stairs in that third quarter yesterday. They killed him in that third quarter. And that's the quarter the Celtics usually win. So good for them. And Brunson is tremendous, as you said. Very. He's not underrated anymore. He was underrated. Coming to the Knicks.
Dan Patrick
I got roughed up by a couple of former NBA players on social media. I talked about Jason Tatum being a great player, but not a star. You know that there's. Certain. There's only a couple players and it. And I liken this to, you know, Tom Cruise is not necessarily a great actor as much as he is a star.
Dan Flores
Yeah, I agree.
Dan Patrick
Bradley Cooper is a star, you know, and a great actor. And then I, I likened it to Trey Young. He's got star power. Luca has star power. Steph Curry has star power. There's only a couple play like SGA has no star power. He's an unbelievable player. He's going to be the mvp, but he doesn't. People aren't going, hey, when's SGA playing? If Steph Curry's playing. Younger kids love Trey Young. Luke has got star power. But I caught some flack. Greg Anthony was going to join us. He was like, how can you say that? He's not a star. He's first team all NBA five times. Which is true. He is a great player, but having star power. You go out to see the Celtics. Yeah, you're. You're not necessarily going to see him. And I didn't. It came off as a slight. I didn't mean it that way. I'm just letting people know there's only a couple of players that you go, I'm coming out to see you. And he wasn't on that short list. I don't even know if Joker's on that list, Chris, because.
Dan Flores
Oh, I don't think Kawhi Leonard is either. You know, he's a great player. But you think people are flocking to get by tickets. First off, he never plays. But you think people are flocking to. Giannis is a star. I mean, the way he plays, he would be on that list that you mentioned. I know where you're coming from, though. I can see your point. He's a great, great player. The ball sticks to him sometimes. You know, the ball has a tendency to stick to him A little too much for me. But, you know, I generally understand where you're coming from. I think you are probably 100% right. I don't like Trae Young. To me, he keeps both teams in the game. I mean, his shot selection, I'm not a big fan.
Dan Patrick
He's not a better player than Jason Tate. I'm saying he's got star young. Kids love Trey Young.
Dan Flores
They do tune in, but I think they overrate Trey Young because he does have star power. I don't think he's a great player. I think he's got that little panache which make as he shoots 40 footers. He's small, he's flashy. But I know where you're coming from. I think there is something where with Tatum, you watch the franchise more than you go watch the individual player. You know, I don't know if people in Oklahoma City are buying tickets because Tatum's coming to town. They're buying tickets because the Celtics are coming to town. And that's probably what, what you meant. When Giannis comes to town, they're buying tickets. You know, when Curry comes to town, they're buying the tickets. You know, Jokic, I think he's probably a star. Got star power because he's so unorthodox. You know, he's.
Dan Patrick
I don't know if I, I can see that at the Y. I can see there's that guy at the Y where you go, Tim, he, he scores, passes, rebound, does everything. And Luke is the best or Jokic is the best player in the game. I'm just saying star power to come out and watch. Anthony Edwards has more star power than Joker does, in my opinion. Like, there's a. I gotta go see that guy.
Dan Flores
And so the one thing I would disagree with you on with that is Jokic is so unorthodox that he's so unique. You know, big, lumbering guy, can handle the ball, shoots threes, great passer. There's an element of that. Just how is he doing this? And so you go to the games for that reason. But I do understand exactly what you're saying about Tatum. If you're getting grief, they shouldn't be giving you grief. It's a sports opinion and you are. I, I can understand that to where you're coming from. And again, back to Brunson. I mean, it's incredible. You know, he gets to a spot.
Greg Anthony
See.
Dan Flores
You know, you would never think. Little bit of a guy, you know, but there I never thought who thought he was going to be this great coming out of college. I mean, a Little bit like he's better, but a touch a little bit like Fred Van Fleet. I never thought he was going to be a good NBA player. No, he's not as good as Brunson, but, but you, but you get the idea. And sga. I think you're right. He's great, but he doesn't have that. And I tell you right now, Oklahoma City is a little overrated. I mean, for a team that won 68 games, I mean, they were down 29 in game three to Memphis, and Memphis, you know, had Moran out. They're lucky they got through the game the other day.
Dan Patrick
You know, this is going to come back and bite you. You know, that's they're going to win the title.
Dan Flores
Watch them win the title and they very well. I haven't been impressed with Minnesota. I mean, I didn't see the second half last night when they played great before. They've worked awfully hard to beat Golden State. I mean, and they have no Curry and they've worked awfully hard. I mean, I don't know. I mean, I, I, I'm not seeing the 86 Celtics, let's put it that way. Well, the 82, 83, 76ers or the 66, 70, 67 Sixers or the 7172 Lakers. I didn't see the 66 7. You did. I didn't. The 66, 67 Sixers, but I did see the 71, 72 Lakers. That were great. 68 and 13. I'm not seeing that kind of team right now so far in the NBA playoffs myself.
Dan Patrick
If you're NBC, how do you use Michael Jordan on your NBA package?
Dan Flores
Well, you know, I don't think Michael's going to be there every Saturday or Sunday afternoon breaking down, you know, a regular season game up against football. So I don't think he's going to be there in that situation. To me, you know, I think it's a little PR oriented because I got to see how much Jordan's going to work. You know, Jordan's going to give up some of those golf things in NBA playoffs. You know, somebody says, you know, Michael, let's go play in Dubai. He just says, no, I can't. I got Sacramento and Dallas in a playing game. He's not going to do that. So I got to see it to believe it. But, you know, it's a good PR move for NBC. I mean, he won all those championships for the network. Who's not going to want to hear what Jordan has to say? But I believe those appearances Will be short in stature and brief. I think it's more. Until it's proven otherwise, I think it's more PR than anything else. I got to see him. Really want to do this.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. I'm wondering, and we joked about this, that is it going to be Michael Jordan goes and lets some of these players interview him that, you know, coming up at halftime, Cooper flag interviews Michael Jordan. You know, an audience with Michael Jordan where these players get to ask him questions. But, but I. Other than that, unless they do what Kobe did with his details, when, when he would break down, truly break down a game or a player, I could see that maybe with Mike doing something like that, but I thought Kobe was wonderful as an analyst, you know, with his own series there.
Dan Flores
Maybe they didn't see that. I mean, I don't see Jordan breaking down an individual game and getting on a player for making a mistake. I don't see Jordan wanting to get into the weeds of why so and so made an error. You know, why Harden stinks in big games. You know what she does? I don't know if. I don't know if Jordan's going to want to do that. To me, that's just NBC trying to get a little juice with their, with their NBA deal. Let's announce that we've hired Jordan for, quote, unquote, a special correspondent. They probably haven't even detailed what that might entail because they, you know, they just said, jordan, why don't you sign up and we'll figure it out later on, you know, that kind of thing. But I think people will pay attention to it. It's, you know, Jordan doesn't talk much. You very rarely see him after that. 8. You know that great documentary. So from that standpoint, we hear from him and we'll go from there. Listen, we're going to have a little drama here, a little drama with Denver, Oklahoma City. Let's see how Cleveland responds. Celtics without Tatum. Do they throw in the cash near chips? They go play with a lot of verve in Game 5. Down 31 when it appears they can't win that series. So I think you're going to have a little drama here. Can Golden State win a game? They get Curry active for game six. I think you're going to have a little drama here in the next four or five days in the NBA. And going back to the original thought, something's wrong with the idea that the Dallas Mavericks freaking win the lottery after Atlanta won. So I'm with you 100% on that.
Dan Patrick
Good. Good to talk to you, Chris.
Dan Flores
I love you, Danny. You keep up the good work, okay?

The best things in life are on the other side of difficult conversations. But most people avoid them. Staying silent, missing opportunities, and holding themselves back. I know this is true because I used to be one of those people. As a kid, I struggled to fit in and I was afraid to speak up. That fear followed me into adulthood until I realized something powerful. Negotiation isn't a talent. It's a skill anyone can learn. And it starts with negotiating with yourself, breaking through fear, self doubt, and the limits we place on ourselves. Now I help people from all walks of life, whether it's people closing multi million dollar deals, parent setting boundaries, students finding their voices, or professionals advancing their careers. If you want to handle tough conversations, get what you deserve and take control of your future, this podcast is for you. I'm Kwame Christian, host of Negotiate Anything, the number one negotiation podcast in the world, where you'll learn one simple truth. You don't get what you deserve. You get what you negotiate. Greg Anthony, part of the broadcast team Cabs Pacers semifinal series, and he'll be there with Jared Greenberg, Spiro Deeds. Game 5 tips off tonight, Cleveland at 7 Eastern on TNT True TV. And Max, good to see you again. Greg, how are you?
Greg Anthony
Good morning, Dan. How are you, man? A happy birthday, I hear is coming up. Yeah, 55. You're gonna be 55. What's going on?
Dan Patrick
You know, the, the game is limited now. I'm just free throw in. Not, not free throw extended anymore. But don't leave me open. I'll hit a free throw. That's about it.
Greg Anthony
I love it.
Dan Patrick
All right, all right. So I had some things to say about Jason Tatum and we probably had 10 minutes, 15 minutes on the show. We were talking about him and then you put out a tweet, kind of asking me how could I come up with this or come to this conclusion about Jason Tatum. I feel bad talking about him where his season could be over. So I, I just want to paraphrase something here. I think he's a first ballot hall of Famer. I think he's a great player. I just don't think he's a star is the point that I've been trying to make. Like Trey Young is a star, Anthony Edwards a star. Luke is a star. Steph Curry's a star. I'm talking about. I'm going to go out of my way to watch Shea Gilgamesh is not a star. I think he's a, a great player and will be the mvp. You can make a case. Joker is not a star. That you tune in to watch him play. That was the point that I've tried to make with Jason Tatum. He's a first ballot hall of Famer and a great, great player. I just, I think you tune in or you would go out of your way to see the Celtics, not Jason Tatum.
Greg Anthony
That's a fair assessment from, from your perspective, because I do think, in essence, you're saying he's not box office. No, there. And there have been a lot of the greatest players who've ever played who weren't box office. So I listen, Tim Duncan was not box office.
Dan Patrick
Yes, fair.
Greg Anthony
Right. Like, so we get that. And I Don't have an issue with that. And sometimes that's the difficult part. Oftentimes with sound bites and tidbits, because I didn't have the opportunity to kind of listen to your context.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Greg Anthony
And so from what I heard, I was like, wow, Now I would push back a little because I actually do think Jayson Tatum is a star. I do think he's somewhat underappreciated. And I think part of it is just the. The dynamic of the culture we live in is that we've gotta push the envelope on. On all these guys. And then we're having this conversation after what just transpired last night when he was having a monster game, although they were probably still gonna lose that game based on how things are trending at the end. And you just hate to see it happen to him. Because I also think the irony of that is he's one of the highest character guys we have in our league. He's one of the most accountable guys we have in our league, and he's been one of the most successful. I mean, if you go look at perspective, since he came into the league, he's played at more conference finals, he's won a championship. He's. This will be his fourth consecutive first team all NBA. So I would tend to say I still. I think Joker's a star, like, so that's just in a disagreement. That's more semantics. Right. That's not necessarily saying they're not great players. But I, again, as a basketball nut, I would pay to see both of them play. But then again, you know, I'd go pay to see two lottery teams play if I had to. I'm just a fan of the game, so I could definitely appreciate where you're coming from.
Dan Patrick
Speaking of the lottery, you okay with it, the format?
Greg Anthony
Yeah.
Dan Flores
So.
Greg Anthony
You know what, Dan? This is my philosophy on life. No matter what we have in place, what the system is, people are going to complain because just like human beings, nobody's perfect. There is no such thing. We struggle with it all the time. So I try to focus more on the end result than just the minutiae of the process, like too many people want to. Because you can nitpick any process. And I'll give you a perfect example. Let's look at the national championship game we just had with the final four in basketball, and then with the championship in the NCAA for football, I was really happy with the end result. I thought the final Four, you had the four best teams. Right. You didn't have. In the championship game, you had no five star kids. You had no one and done kids. The ratings were through the roof. And we'll. Instead of us focusing on man, we got ultimately what we wanted. We want to get caught up in the drugs of the process. There is no perfect process. How many Remember you're old enough to remember when there was 32 teams in the NCAA tournament. You're old enough. We're old enough to remember when you didn't have a playoff for college football. And with each process that they changed it, the complaints never diminished. They. We still. That's what we do in America, man. We just want to complain. It doesn't matter what the system is, how well it's functioning. So I look, I have no problem with it. It creates excitement. I was against the play in when they first introduced it. I think it was one of the best things ever happened to our league because it does. It's helped to eliminate tanking. That's one of those words that's taboo in sports, right? We don't talk about tanking that much anymore in the NBA and there was a time, as you know, where we discussed it ad nauseam. So I'm fine with it. I mean, how about the irony with the Mavericks getting the pick? And I sent Nico a text last night congratulating him because he's caught a lot of hell. And listen, you had to assume you're going to catch a lot of hell when you trade a star of the magnitude of a Luka Doncic who took you to the finals a year prior. So, yeah, I'm a fan of it. I think you want to try to make the game as healthy as possible and not turn your fan base collectively off. And this is one way that I think it's been a positive Talking to.
Dan Patrick
Greg Anthony, NBA on TNT analyst, spent 11 seasons in the NBA and won a title UNLV back in 1990. Let me go back to Luca. I just don't know why Nico wouldn't leak it that there is the possibility Luca could be available because it feels like you could have gotten a little bit more, maybe a lot more. Like I would have insisted Austin Reeves was in that trade. Like, I just, I. And I don't know why Dallas, you know, wouldn't ask for that, but you could have gotten other teams who probably would have come up with a lot better trade proposal, don't you think?
Greg Anthony
Well, there's two. Two things you got to consider. One, think about the backlash he's faced since the trade went down. If you leak that and it gets out, I Think you create more problems than solutions. That's just the reality and that's my perspective. I don't think you can leak that. And it's easy to Monday morning quarterback for all of us to say what they could or could not have got. I think what you got to focus in on, okay, what is the objective? Because case in point, you could have gotten four first or five first round picks, but their objective was to win. Now Kyrie Irving's best basketball, hopefully he's going to recover and he can still play at his heights, but he's not going to be better for the moving forward. Right. You've got a small window to win now. So he wanted to match the timeline after the trade was made of his two best players. And so that's why I think he went the route he did. We all, everybody can second guess it after the fact, but ultimately, listen, if they're healthy, that team would have been a better team than the Lakers just because of how they were built. Health plays a big role in it. It didn't materialize. Now you got the first pick and now they're going to have more concerns and questions because I'm a huge Cooper Flag fan. But does he fit their timeline?
Dan Patrick
No.
Greg Anthony
You know, can you win like this is. This is a better situation. But there's some similarity. If you go back to when the warriors drafted James Wiseman with the second pick, there was a lot of talk about hey, should we move off the pick? And in that case probably would have made more sense because I think there was a lack of consensus on just how good James Wiseman was. You know, that was more of a Kwame Brown scenario from the standpoint that, you know, you took him based on the potential but he wasn't as certain. He wasn't the proven commodity that I think Cooper Flag is. And so there's going to be some concern or consideration. I would assume you're at least going to listen to see ultimately what can transpire because again, you want to have a chance to compete at the highest level now. And getting that first pick creates a lot more leverage for Nico Harrison and the Mavs than they had going into that lottery.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I think you got a two year window with Kyrie and ad. It feels like in their prime. Hopefully both are going to be healthy or ish. Yeah, Cooper Flag's got not going to be 19 until in the season. And what can you expect from him? You got some big guys. Christie's good, you know, he's a good addition for them. I agree with you, you know, the timeline there maybe not syncing up, but would you trade Anthony Davis and Cooper Flag for Luca?
Greg Anthony
Would I trade Anthony? Dave? That's a tough question. Luca for Luca? Well, I think a lot of his. Relative to who. Who I am, what I have when I make that deal.
Dan Patrick
I'm just. I'm joking that if Dallas.
Greg Anthony
But like, in essence, you're saying that's basically what happened.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Greg Anthony
Now, I would say that there's a lot of certainty with Luca. Listen, you know, you're. You got to build the right way around him. He's got to make a commitment to his body. You know, the Denver Nuggets were in a similar situation with. With the Joker a few years ago. They went to him and said, look, we need you to commit to your body. That's how you commit to us. And he transformed his body. He's become. Became in much better shape. And I think there was maybe some conversations like that with Luca. Maybe it didn't go over well. I guarantee you the Lakers just had this conversation with him when they had their meeting with JJ and in their. Their front office with Polinka when they had that dinner the other night, you know, because I do think physically he's got to get in better shape. I think. I think it's going to behoove him to. And it is hard to do, but he's got to make that commitment to that organization if they want to have a chance to ultimately win a championship. There's a reason why Dallas, like, people can poo poo and get mad all they wanted. Nico. But the reality is physically, and we saw it defensively, he was a liability in that series. And. And while they had other issues with the roster, as great a talent as he is, and I'm a huge Luka Doncic fan, I love the guy's skill set. You still need him to have to not at least be a liability. You don't have to be a plus defender, but you can't be a liability defensively, especially with his size. You know, it's one thing if you got a slow guard, but when you've got his size and physicality, he can have a much more impactful place on the defense.
Dan Patrick
For the Lakers, who, let's say they win their series, their respective series, who is more dangerous? The Pacers of the Knicks.
Greg Anthony
As you get later in the playoffs, your best player's ability to play against great team, great defense becomes more relevant. So I would say. And let me say the. Preface it by saying this. Dan, this is the first time since I've been in broadcasting, maybe even since I've been associated with the game where I really felt like the final eight teams could all win it. I'd never had that feeling because generally, you know, you get an upset, you get a team or two in there, you're like, ah, they don't really have a chance. But I really felt like all things being equal, everybody healthy, everybody playing their best, that they all had a chance. Having said that, I love Indiana's team. I think they're really hard to defend because what they do is the hardest thing to do, which is defend the pass. They play fast, they put a lot of pressure on you, and they're a much improved defensive team. They were a top four team in the league since the first of the year. Having said that, you want a guy. We saw it last night with Brunson. You need a guy that can score against great defense. When you play a seven game series, you can't trick anybody. You're not bringing in new concepts, you're not going to recreate how you play. We know what you do, you know what we do. And as you get later in the series, you got to have guys that can go beat their man. They can win matchups and compromise your defense. And Jalen Brunson has consistently in the postseason shown you he can do that. And they built that team to play the Celtics. They've got great positional size on the wing. Those guys are great two way players with Anunoby and Bridges. And while they don't have the depth, it hasn't been an issue for them as of yet. And so I would, if those two teams end up meeting, and right now the odds are it's looking that way. They're both up 3:1. I would give a slight edge to the Knicks because of that. Now, having said that, this Pacers team, they are really good. I, I thought they were the most underrated team in the postseason. They've proven that to be the case. They've been dominant in this series. Now you're missing injuries this and the other, but they have dominated a team that had been dominant over the entire regular season. So you got to tip your hat to Rick Carlisle and his group.
Dan Patrick
How do you think NBC is going to use Michael Jordan with their NBA coverage?
Greg Anthony
Oh, man, I was pumped to hear that. Right. You know, in a lot of ways he became Michael Jordan at NBC. Right. They, they both really benefited from that. That's where the game had its greatest growth, to the likes of which we've never seen it. I've been really impressed with what they've done thus far. You've seen the promo they put out not too long ago where they incorporated all of their broadcast talent and people involved with the network of Peacock. I thought that was brilliant. I gotta believe that he's gonna. They're gonna have to be able to go back to who he was as a player. I hope they do that. I don't think he's going to be in the studio show. I don't think he's gonna be doing games. But I would like to hear his perspective and how he looks at today's crop of stars and juxtapose that to what he dealt with. So I'm not sure how they're going to use him, but I'll be tuning in, you know, obviously, as we all are, because of what he's meant to our game. And it's awesome that after all these years, he's at least going to let us, the viewing public, have a little insight into his mindset and who he is. I think the Last Dance help with that. And I think this could be a further furtherance of that.
Dan Patrick
As Reggie Miller ever admitted that he pushed off?
Greg Anthony
Yes, yes. Multiple times he's admitted it.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Greg Anthony
But. Yeah, he did. But we. Listen, we gave. That gave away. And that game cost us. I think we lost that series. I mean, we beat them for the most part when we played against him. But yeah, that one, that was haunting. I'm just glad I got to work. The Bucs Pacers game, when the Pacers did it to the Bucks, you know, that kind of allowed me to purge some demons a little bit now because that was an amazing game and I can. It's funny in the moment, you know, you're such. There's such shock when you actually go through it. You have no real perspective historically right until well after. So now on the outside, looking in, watching that materialize, man, that is just. It's still hard to imagine something like that could happen. And unfortunately, it happened to me. But. But. Or to my next. But. Yeah, I'm glad that we now have something else to reference when it comes to historical comebacks, that's for sure.
Dan Patrick
Great to talk to you. Hope you're doing well. Thanks for joining us.
Greg Anthony
All right, thank you, Dan.
Dan Patrick

Dan Patrick and Greg Anthony delved into the contentious outcome of the recent NBA draft lottery, where the Dallas Mavericks secured the top pick. The discussion centered around prevalent conspiracy theories suggesting possible manipulation to favor the Mavericks.
Dan Patrick expressed skepticism about the fairness of the lottery system:
"When you do think about it, there are times when you go things that make you go so Patrick Ewing going to the Knicks, Derrick Rose going to the Bulls should get a little more emphasis here because they had like a 1.8% chance to get him. And he goes to his hometown."
(24:09)
Greg Anthony provided his perspective, advocating for a more equitable lottery system:
"I think it's time maybe we pass on the lottery and give those worst teams the best chance to get the number one pick in the draft."
(26:00)
The hosts compared the current situation to historical instances, such as Patrick Ewing joining the Knicks and Derrick Rose moving to the Bulls, highlighting patterns where players end up with teams that enhance their careers despite low initial probabilities.
The episode addressed the impact of key player injuries on playoff dynamics, focusing on Jayson Tatum's injury during a crucial Celtics vs. Knicks game.
Dan Patrick speculated on the nature of Tatum's injury and its implications:
"Look more of an Achilles than an ankle or even a knee, but even the pain reaction, and I don't know if it's the pain of..."
(24:09)
The discussion highlighted Jalen Brunson's exemplary performance for the Knicks as a mitigating factor:
"Jalen Brunson has consistently in the postseason shown you he can do that."
(33:55)
Both hosts emphasized how injuries can significantly alter the momentum of playoff series, potentially favoring teams with deeper benches or more resilient rosters.
Dan Patrick and Greg Anthony offered analyses of various teams' performances in the playoffs, assessing strengths, weaknesses, and future prospects.
Dan Patrick critiqued Denver's performance, citing signs of fatigue:
"Denver, I think, is just tired. I think Joker is tired."
(28:00)
Greg Anthony praised Indiana's defensive prowess:
"I love Indiana's team. I think they're really hard to defend because what they do is the hardest thing to do, which is defend the pass."
(56:00)
The conversation also touched on the potential outcomes of ongoing series, with a particular focus on the Celtics and Knicks, discussing strategies and key player contributions.
A segment was dedicated to Michael Jordan's new role as a special correspondent for NBC's NBA coverage, sparking discussions on his potential impact and the nature of his involvement.
Greg Anthony speculated on Jordan's possible contributions:
"I would like to hear his perspective and how he looks at today's crop of stars and juxtapose that to what he dealt with."
(57:52)
The hosts debated whether Jordan would take on an analytical role or serve more as a promotional figure:
"But I think people will pay attention to it... I don't think he's going to be there in that situation."
(57:33)
The episode explored the concept of "star power" among NBA players, debating whether certain athletes possess the charisma and appeal that drive fan engagement and ticket sales.
Dan Patrick questioned the star status of Jayson Tatum:
"I think you tune in or you would go out of your way to see the Celtics, not Jayson Tatum."
(45:57)
Greg Anthony countered by affirming Tatum's star qualities:
"I still think Joker's a star, like, so that's just in a disagreement. That's more semantics."
(53:18)
The hosts discussed how star power influences not only individual player popularity but also team marketing and overall league appeal, comparing players like Steph Curry, Kawhi Leonard, and Trae Young.
Dan Patrick and Greg Anthony examined recent trade moves, particularly the Mavericks' acquisition strategies involving Luka Doncic.
Dan Patrick criticized the Mavericks' trade tactics:
"So I just don't know why Nico wouldn't leak it that there is the possibility Luka could be available because it feels like you could have gotten a little bit more..."
(50:31)
Greg Anthony responded by explaining the Mavericks' strategic considerations:
"If you're going to compete at the highest level now, getting that first pick creates a lot more leverage for Nico Harrison and the Mavs than they had going into that lottery."
(51:56)
The discussion highlighted the delicate balance teams must maintain between rebuilding through draft picks and maintaining competitiveness in the present season.
Towards the end of the episode, the hosts speculated on upcoming NBA events, potential game outcomes, and the future trajectories of various teams and players.
Dan Patrick shared his expectations for the remaining playoff games:
