Oh, man, it is the best thing we ever started. This tradition started many years ago. Our goal was just to get on TV like Beavis and Butthead. Whether it be. Whether it be behind a reporter, you know, on the news or bushwhacking in the stands. And it's such a thrill. It's the goofiest thing ever. If you've ever been on the big screen at a ball game. Yeah. You know, when you're just there and all of a sudden you're on the big screen, you just lose your mind. That's how it is when the home run comes in your direction. So yeah, there's a sense of showmanship because we're trying to get on tv, but that's just pure elation, pure excitement and joy. When the ball comes our way, it's the craziest feeling. And we just know that the cameras are there, so we might as well bushwhack like Luke and Butch from the wwe. And we got a lot of airtime last night because we found our way right there in left field. And what a night. It was electric last night. We got to tell you all about it. What's up, Danny G. What up?

Good morning. I think Jerry Wiley on social media, he posted this. He said it best. They got more airtime tonight than when they were actually on espn.

He's absolutely right. We had more fun, I'll tell you that. You know, so great last night. Baseball's really. They're really up to something remarkable. They figured it out. They got superstars. The event was amazing. And again, not our first rodeo. This is what, like our 10th, maybe home run derby we've ever gone to. And it was just as exciting, if not more than ever came down to the wire. Small market teams representing. So much to talk about.

[Iowa Sam]

Well, I was going to say there's so many angles from last night, but let me give everyone the quick backstory of Bushwhacking and Kavino and Rich. Just a quick backstory so you know what the heck we're talking about. So, like our first derby, what do you say? Maybe 10, 15 years ago.

[Dan Patrick]

Yeah.

[Iowa Sam]

We decided to tell our listeners, you guys look out for us tonight. We're going to try to get on the derby somehow, some way, Covino's going to be wearing the Yankee pinstripes.

[Dan Patrick]

It's like a little like, Where's Waldo sort of game. Like, I think I see you.

[Iowa Sam]

I'm going to rock like my old school Mets jersey. So you'll see us together. And if we think the camera's on us, we'll start doing the Bushwhacker.

[Dan Patrick]

Whoa.

Remember the old WWE wrestlers.

And we did it one year, and then the next year, like, let's do it again. And like Kavino said, it became more fun to try to unintentionally get on TV than when we're intentionally on TV or broadcast.

Not only a thrill for us, and it's a double thrill. The thrill of the home run ball coming in your direction and you're there sharing in the moment with the crowd. Crowd, but the thrill of knowing that all your friends and listeners are going to see you on tv. So it's so funny. And I don't know how to.

[Iowa Sam]

I don't know how to describe it because it sounds ridiculous. Because not to brag, we've had TV shows on different networks, different, you know, things we've streamed, but sounds like you're bragging when you are unintentionally on TV like that. There's. There's more of a joy. Like, Danny G. One time I went with my wife to a taping of the Bachelor after the final rose and they handed on me and my wife, like, clapping. More people hit me up for that than anything I've ever done on my own.

So I think he pride.

[Iowa Sam]

I think people love to see someone they know.

[Dan Patrick]

Yeah.

[Iowa Sam]

At like, I guess you would say, like a unique event or something. Right. So last night, Home run Derby, I will say this. We go to the derby with our credential. We have our press pass. We don't have an actual seat. So I say, covino, follow me. And I just sort of go to left field, walk down the aisle, and I'm like, all right, I see some empty seats in like the fourth or fifth row in left field. I'm gonna sit there until someone tells us to move.

[Dan Patrick]

And guess what, Danny G, no one ever. No one ever came.

[Iowa Sam]

The girls ever came.

[Dan Patrick]

Nobody ever told us to move.

[Steve Covino]

You know, it helped that the two guys you chose to sit next to were wearing bright neon colored shirts.

[Dan Patrick]

Not only that, bro, it's such a small world that the guy we were sitting next to is like, from the same hometown as Rich, like in the same area.

[Iowa Sam]

He goes, yeah, let's go Mets. And he had a met shirt on underneath his yellow neon shirt. And he goes, yeah, I went to. I went to Sanaka High School in Long Island. I go, dude, I went. I went to his competing high school. Like, we live five minutes from each.

[Dan Patrick]

You went to Franklin Square Carry High? And Rich is like, yeah. So again, like, what a coincidence. How random is that? You have to realize Rich is from a small part of Long Island. What's the random high school?

[Iowa Sam]

We're in Atlanta.

[Dan Patrick]

We're in Atlanta. And they were welcoming of us to be there. And yeah, it was easy to spot us because we're sitting next to two dudes in neon green shirts. And what an exciting event. We said it every year and every time we're still coming off that high and all the feedback because people are like, dude, I saw you a million times. It was hilarious. But it is the greatest sporting event out of all four major sports. We're not saying World Series, Stanley Cup, NBA Finals, we're saying, like, as far as events, it's the most exciting.

[Iowa Sam]

Or the super bowl exhibition.

[Steve Covino]

It's the best exhibition.

[Dan Patrick]

Yeah. By far the best, most fun you're going to have. If you have buddies you want to have fun with, if you have kids you want to build memories with, this is the event to go to. It surpasses the All Star Game, I think, by a mile, in my opinion. That's how much fun it is, guys.

[Iowa Sam]

And I'm excited to go. I'm excited to go to the game tonight, but I told Kavino tonight, and we're going to get to the derby in a second. Just our observations. If you go to Veenonrich at Rich Davis at Steve Cavino, you can see all the ridiculous photos and videos of us bushwhacking. But the game itself, tonight, I said, I'm most excited about the player intros and the first couple innings. I said, you know what? Like, that's what I'm most excited about. The Derby, to me, is the. That's the pinnacle.

[Dan Patrick]

Yeah. The All Star Game exhibition is an honor. It's special. You want to be there. Your heroes are all together. The camaraderie. You get to see everybody in one game compete. It's beautiful. The All Star Game is great.

[Iowa Sam]

Yeah.

[Dan Patrick]

But the Home Run Derby is just a spectacle. It's an event. It's fun, it's exciting. And there's nothing like seeing these dudes just tee off and hit bombs. Moonshots. I was saying moonshot all night. Moonshot. O', Neal, Cruz, Moonshot. Oh, my God.

[Iowa Sam]

Now, while Cal Raleigh. While Cal Raleigh won, I think the. The swing, I was most impressed by where I was. Like, I've seen this guy play a lot, but watching him just tee off. O', Neill, Cruz, that swing is just something to marvel at.

[Dan Patrick]

It is insane. Like, there's extra pop coming off that dude's bat.

[Steve Covino]

And I thought Rich was going to say jazz chisel.

[Dan Patrick]

Oh, we're going to get to that. We're going to get to that guy. But the feeling of. Now, Rich and I have never caught a foul ball or a home run out of all the games and derbies we've been to, never. Yesterday, two balls came right at us. Literally one seat behind us, Literally one seat in front of us. But the feeling of that ball coming at you, it's like a very intimidating feeling because it's up there forever, and you feel like the chosen 1. Of 55,000 people. Like, oh my God, it's coming here now.

[Steve Covino]

And you two jabronis had the big oversized ocean gloves. Oh, Covino. At least in the photos I saw you cove holding the big blue promotional glove. They were giving away that mostly you see the little kids holding. Yeah, but here's Covino and you still couldn't catch the ball.

[Dan Patrick]

That wasn't on me. You're absolutely right. But one came closer to Rich than it did to me. And he said he, he'll tell you.

[Iowa Sam]

There was part of me because. So the one in front of me, someone in the row in front of us caught one. It was too shallow. There's no way I. I could have got it. The one that the guy caught.

[Dan Patrick]

Quitter right behind me.

[Iowa Sam]

I. I second guessed. I'm like, if I would have jumped, I think I could have got a hand on it. But then I'm like, everyone's going at each other. If I jump, someone's gonna body check me and I'm gonna go over a chair. Because. Because I'll be honest, I was like, if I reached up. No, but I would have had to like but extend.

[Dan Patrick]

If you've ever caught a home run, I'm sure people listening have.

[Iowa Sam]

Feels like a meteor is falling out of the sky and it's like, what?

[Dan Patrick]

Oh my.

It's the weirdest feeling ever. Because you're looking up at the night sky and all you see is this ball coming and like everybody else phases you in that ball and you're like floating towards it and it's coming down to you and you're like, oh no. It's the craziest feeling ever. We came so close. Yeah. But then it lands the guy behind us one time, straight up lost his mind. He lost his mind.

[Iowa Sam]

I thought this guy was joking, Denny. But he was having almost like an out of body experience. Like he was so like baffled that he caught a ball. I thought he was honestly BS and it's like he was goofing around.

[Dan Patrick]

He's gonna faint. Yeah. Because he was screaming in pure excitement. And guys, if you want to see our. Our pure joy at his finest. Like truly the. The kid inside comes out just again, check our social media at Covino and Rich, even at Fox Sports Radio you can see all the clips of us just losing our minds at the Home Run Derby because it is that fun to be there.

Yeah, that's our plan. So again, we're Covino and Rich. We had a blast. We're excited for the game tonight. But let's get into this. Congratulations to Cal Raleigh, Seattle Mariners catcher, the big dumper hitting big bombs last night.

I mean, you knew it was gonna happen because I mean, not only did, not only did McAfee start the home Run Derby by saying the guy with the sweetest ass in baseball, Cal Raleigh, not only did you know he came into the derby as the biggest name in it.

[Dan Patrick]

I mean, he only got there by 0.96 inches. Not even an inch.

[Iowa Sam]

Didn't you lose a spring break contest by that same margin? Remember back I was gonna say he came in as the biggest name and the favor to win. He's the home run league leader right now, the only guy giving Aaron Judge a run for the mvp. And not only that, he had a premonition. Dude, have you seen that great video circulating on TikTok and Instagram where then this is the cool part about these athletes being so young. Their lives have been recorded since their babies because these kids were all born in the 2000s or late 90s. So you're looking at a dude who, his parents have video of him saying, I'm gonna be a home run champ one day.

[Dan Patrick]

And that's just another layer to the story. And what makes it beautiful, it's watching his kids childhood dream come true. And it was a family affair, as they said over and over again. If you didn't know it, Cal Raleigh's dad was pitching to him. You got to think of all those days and years he was pitching to his kid in the backyard and working for this moment. And Cal's little brother was catching. And when I say little brother, the kid was a monster. But he was 15 years old and they kept saying that he may have been the MVP of the event because he was really hyping his brother up the whole time, coaching him along the way, hyping up the dad, like we got it, like just really.

Yeah.

[Dan Patrick]

Getting everybody involved in the moment. And again, what a, what a amount of pressure for a 15 year old kid to be a part of a Major league baseball home run derby.

[Steve Covino]

That's awesome. That was one of the most memorable moments when the time was running out and he got that last swing off and the, the catcher you're mentioning, kid pops up, dad turns around and they're all watching it. Barely clear the fence, barely. They all celebrate together. That was one of the great moments.

[Dan Patrick]

It was a night of Inches because again Cal Raleigh only qualified because he beat Brent Rooker of the A's by 0.96 inches. As far as distance, because it came down to they Both tied at 17.

[Iowa Sam]

How do you know? That's. How do you know?

[Dan Patrick]

And that's the difference between the robots know rift 0.08ft again because they both hit a 470 foot bomb. But Cal Raleighs was a little bit further and like Danny G said, he barely cleared the fence in that home run derby. Says who there? Elias of the.

[Iowa Sam]

That I mean Sports Bureau.

[Dan Patrick]

I don't know.

[Iowa Sam]

So I mean let's be honest, we all wanted Cal Raleigh. No offense to Rooker, but how do you, how do you measure that? Come on.

[Dan Patrick]

Well, it just adds to his magical season. How much does it add? We're gonna debate that later on but these are our observations. What were yours? What made you go hmm from the Home Run Derby last night? We were there. We're gonna tell you everything we experienced again. 87799 on Fox. 87799 on Fox. We're live from All Star Village. You never know who's going to stop by but we do want to hear from you. And like I said before, not only is baseball getting it right and marketing their young superstars and everyone's pumped about it. As we've been saying, baseball's popping but the major market teams really had no impact yesterday. Yeah, when you think about who had impact, it wasn't the Dodgers, it wasn't the Giants, it wasn't the Red Sox, it definitely wasn't the Yankees with jazz. Chisholm's three home runs, what a stinker he put up. It was all the small market teams, the Nationals, the Twins, the Pirates, Caminero with the Tampa Bay Rays, Rooker with the A's. So it's like all these young superstars from mid to small market teams that were really stepping up. And it goes to show you like, man, there's a lot of stars in baseball.

Well, you're an American League east fan because you're a Yankee dude. There's a lot of people that are like Junior, Kevin Arrow, who that might have been their first look at this dude. If you're not a die hard baseball fan, you might have not even have heard of Junior.

[Dan Patrick]

He put up a great fight and a great night. But you know what, it shows you Rich, when you think of all these young names that are hitting moonshots and putting on this event last night. The MLB is setting up to be great for like the next 10 years. Like seriously, so we could ride this train and enjoy it for at least another 10 years. Because all these dudes are so young and we just hope that more continue to come up and they influence more young players to continue playing baseball because these young dudes are really delivering. It's fun to watch. Cal Raleigh's just another name to add to the list. Like, dude, what a show he put on. Congrats again to his family. It was a very special night. We were just honored to be there.

I think, I think one of my observations, one of the things that made me go last night at the Home Run Derby, I think Major League Baseball got it right. Meaning they figured out how to do the derby. Every year or so. Every sport out there changes rules. They change the rules for a slam dunk contest or a three point shootout. There's like the magic ball or the golden ticket or ball Major League Baseball. Remember, it's been out, it's been timed. There's been golden balls that count for more. I love the three minutes with a timeout reseeding after the first round because remember there were years where like two guys faced off in the first round and they had the highest score and one of them was out. I love the fact that all eight guys went top four of the eight. Move on, receding three minutes.

And I thought it was the right.

And, and the, and the bonus three outs untimed three outs with the extra out if you hit a ball certain distance. I think as far as the rules go, it moved and it was fair.

Yes, as far as the rules go, baseball has it right coverage wise. The only complaint I was seeing all over social media last night is people don't like the way ESPN split the screen.

I saw that. Now again, that was after the fact. And I was going through social media, watching all of our clips of us clowning out in the outfield, a lot of people were buzzing about like, come on with that. The split screen was not the vibe last night, but congrats again to. Well, first off, like you said, Rich Junior Caminero of the Twins hit 15 in the finals only to come up short to Cal Raleigh, who was just hitting bombs. And again, props to his family. But your observations, your thoughts, feel free to share them. I do got to say that Jazz Chisholm, I think he's just making excuses right now. He said he didn't want to mess up his swing.

Then don't do the derby.

You putts he said he's not worried about it. He hit three home runs and 3:38 swings. As a Yankees fan, I almost wanted to put a bag on my head. An embarrassment, can I tell you?

But he said he didn't care. But, I mean, you're human and you're a competitor. There is no way. I don't care how confident you are. I don't care how flashy you are, how many home runs you have. Because he does have, what, 17 home runs at the All Star break. Yep, he's an All Star. He belongs there. But there's no way he's okay with his performance.

By the way, I say putz lovingly. Jazz. Seems like Jazz is great. Seems like a great.

But, I mean, that's sort of a poor performance. In fact, truth be told, I didn't see it. One time during the Home Run Derby, we were in left field. I had to pick a moment because we, Kavino and I are both starving because we did our show. We were hanging out the Fan Fest, MLB Village, batting practice, you know, doing all the little challenges. Went home, recorded a bunch of stuff for SiriusXM. But we realized, like, yo, did you eat? I'm starving. So I volunteered. I said, you keep our seats warm, bro. You stay here. I'll go get us two drinks and what do you want? I went on a little food run. By the time I came back, I'm like, jazz, Chisholm's done. And Kavina looks so like sad.

During one of the breaks, they had some high school students battle yo in the derby.

Right now they're using aluminum bats, but those kids were raking.

One of the kids hit, what, eight, nine to win it. And I was thinking, what's. What is Jazz thinking? Like, when he sees the high school.

The kids were teen off that even though they were using aluminum bats, even with wood bats, those kids would have hit some bombs because they were. They were strokings. They had one Clarence Carter, bro. They be stroking kids, too.

Yeah, no, I don't think. I think it's just for the stadium.

They have the two high school kids that are go for the championship and they have one minute during a commercial break. One kid hit nine in a minute, and the other kid hit eight. And they weren't just clearing the fence. So aluminum bat. What gives you maybe an extra 50ft or so. But these guys are hitting 400 people.

Last. It's the reason why, Rich, you think you can hit a home run in.

A MLB ball, which is why the. The challenge with an aluminum bat. 100. I could hit.

I was about to put like a hundo on Jazz Chisholm because Covino had a hunch. And I'm like, so, so glad that.

That hunt was built for that type of competition. But I thought he would come through just based on the way he swings. Right?

And how he's throwing 70% into his swing just to make good contact, put Goodwood on the ball. But he stunk it up. Not to take away from the actual winner. Congrats, Seattle. You have a superstar, the first winner from Seattle Since Ken Griffey Jr. When your name's put in that company, you're having a season. And the first catcher, first switch hitter, I believe, to ever win the Home Run Derby.

I really found it to be exciting. But I didn't like the fact that because Dave Roberts mismanaged we're in this situation. That's how I felt about it. But they put these rules in place for a reason. I get it. And it was the first time we've ever seen a swing off.

Hold on now. Did. Did he mismanage? Because if there is a rule for a swing off then he mismatched nothing.

[Dan Patrick]

Burned through all his pitchers.

[Iowa Sam]

But if the MLB's put rules in place for swing off he Mitch ma he mismanaged nothing.

I'm not a fan of that. But they have to figure out who wins this game. You got all these fans there waiting.

If it goes to a tie game and they burn through the pitchers as a swing off.

I'm just telling you I don't like how he managed it because that's not fair to Aaron Boone. Then you know what? Aaron Boone should have just put fresh Arms in the games. If he was going to burn through his pitchers, Aaron Boone should have burned through his pitchers.

What do the fans want to see everyone get a chance. Right? Because look, it turned out.

But I didn't find that to be fair for the AL and Aaron, Boom. I just did it. I'm not saying he broke rules. I'm saying in reality, I feel he mismanaged it.

But some ridiculous.

It led to a swing off. Think what you want and shove it up.

Yeah, but you're missing the point. Mismanaging would mean there's a penalty.

Okay, you know what? Let's take the phone call. Who's the idiot? The bonehead who thinks he's always right and he's wrong, but he often thinks he's right. You can't 7799 on Fox or really, why did they burn through the pitchers? You know why? Because they thought they had the game.

In the bag and that's why. And also they did it. And also because there's no penalty if they did.

I get that. But we've never gotten to this point. Well, I bet you Aaron Boone. I bet you Aaron Boone would have put more pitchers in if he was in the business of sort of mismanaging. So because of that, it's forced into a swing off. Am I mad at that? No, because it was awesome. I don't like the end result, but it was awesome. And as a fan, you're like, wait a second. Swing off. Why is Kyle Stowers and Aranda in this? You know, I and Randy Rosarena. Because it was pre selected. But I didn't know that at the time. I found out later on. Oh, so they pre selected it. Probably never thinking it was gonna matter anyway.

So it's kind of like when you're on a plane. Here's my understanding. When you're on a plane and you're in the exit row and like, hey, man, in case of emergency, you're in the exit row. Are you Good with. And you're like, yeah, yeah, whatever.

Yeah, I raised my hand, going through the motion. Yeah.

You take out one airpod and you're like, yes, yes.

I'm in the exit row. Yes. Yeah. They, prior to the game, say, hey, if this goes extra innings into a swing off, are you willing to do a derby action? Hey, Schwarber, you want to do this? Yeah, yeah, whatever. Because you're assuming it's never going to happen.

Sounds like Aaron Boone mismanaged that part.

[Dan Patrick]

Not really. But there's a lot of people wondering, well, why wasn't Judge in it? Why wasn't Ohtani in it? You know, Danny G. Had the best suggestion of all. And social media was also buzzing about the fact. Why not just have the people that participated in the Home Run Derby be the guys on standby here in case this happens? Because it intertwines the derby ties it all. The actual game. Yeah. It wraps it up perfectly. It's like, well, these are the derby guys. Well, these are the guys that are going to be participating in case a swing off happens. But no, you got Brent Rooker and Stowers. And it wasn't even supposed to be Stowers from Miami. It was supposed to be Eugenio Suarez, but he got hurt.

At least Rooker was in the derby. And then he went on to hit two homers out of the three chances.

Rosa Rayna and Schwarber and Aranda and Pete Alonso, I guess, was the anchor.

[Iowa Sam]

I just can't imagine. I can't imagine why Aaron Judge wouldn't be one of Boone's three guys unless he was scared to do it. Or Boone mismanaged and said, it doesn't matter, I won't need him. But there's a big rumor going around that so many of these starters, once they got pulled, some of them left the ballpark. Some went and hung in the clubhouse, some went to hang with their families, which I really don't care about. It's the All Star Game. It's an exhibition.

But people speculate they showed school. He looked like he was ready to go out clubbing.

[Iowa Sam]

So when you, you know, when you're in the All Star Game and there are no stakes really, other than just your Entertain the fans and it's a fun night of celebrating your sport.

[Dan Patrick]

Like, there's rumors of pride on the line. No one wants to embarrass themselves. It's the All Star Game. A lot of people are watching. But I. But I think they're still ultimate competitors.

[Iowa Sam]

But Ohtani, there's big Rumors that he wasn't even in the stadium. Do you have a problem with that or not really?

[Dan Patrick]

I do. Yeah, kind of. But I also get. It's probably standard for something like that. And you also have to keep in mind, what did we learn from being on the field and watching all the fanfare and the media? It's like, you know, a guy like Ohtani probably just has to get out early or else he's there until 3am.

[Steve Covino]

They were tired, just like you guys, from a long week in Atlanta and wanted to get back to the hotel.

[Iowa Sam]

Don't blame me if I left early. Ohtani left early.

[Dan Patrick]

In our defense, we're not in the game, dude.

And the biggest, like, box office type of show that you could want. You got Kyle Schwaber winning it on a swing off. And I like. I don't like being in the Home Run Derby, guys, because you don't get Schwarber, you don't get Alonzo to close it out. I mean, two of the biggest home run hitters in the league going, you know, you know, backing up each other in A swing off. And I just, I can't imagine. And I know it will never happen, but I'm crazy to say it in the World series. Setting Ohtani vs Judge in a swing off for a World Series, that would be ridiculous. It was, it was exciting. The theatrics were incredible.

I'm so glad Kev brought that up because on the shuttle ride back when the game was over, all of the people were buzzing about they. They should end regular season extra inning games like this. Forget that automatic runner on second. I heard several people saying that out loud and maybe they were just caught in the up moment, but I heard that from several fans that were there.

Well, the game is based nowadays a lot on the home run. It's exciting. Yeah, it's like a. It's like an NBA slam dunk or do a far three pointer or let's be honest, like a deep pass in the NFL, a pick six. Like it's the excitement of the home run. And I will say I feel a little bad for Polar Bear Pete Alonzo, because I agree with you. There he was, he was going to be your MVP and then he was.

1 for 2 with three RBI. Big. Yeah, you know, bomb. You know, he was definitely your MVP of the game. And he was the anchor of the swing off. He never got a shot.

Saying I had a bunch of thoughts and a bunch of feelings because three players from each team, three swings from each player, teams alternate team with the most home run wins the all star game, right? And I'm like, man, this is wild. The whole thing was so cool to see.

Hey, what's going on, fellas? Hey, I just wanted to talk about number one. So this last night, it felt like a shootout in a hockey game or soccer game. So, so sweet, man. You know, that's one of the coolest things in sports. You know, if you're in a World cup final or something and they go to a shootout, man, you're. Everybody's on the edge of their seat. So that's kind of how I felt watching this last night. And number two, I want to just want to talk about Aaron Boone.

I guess I didn't realize that they.

Predetermined the lineup, but man, how do you not let Judge and Cal Riley swing off if they're still there, man? Like, I don't know, like these are the thoughts we all had watching it. So I'm trying to express what I was, was thinking at the time.

They were having a steak down the.

Block to pretend that everybody knew these rules. Everyone's full of baloney like Rich, because nobody knew that they had these things predetermined. Unless you're Tim Kirchein or Jeff Passon. Because I didn't know that and I'm a baseball fan.

Since it was predetermined in the managers have been around these games before. Maybe they know Judge isn't still going to be around. Ohtani is going to be in his limo by then. And that's one of the factors in why they picked who they picked.

That's another point, Danny G. But here's where I actually agree with Rich. Again, first instinct. We're watching from the bar. What Kyle Schwerber did, three pitches, three home runs in that high pressure moment. He even admitted it was a high pressure moment was amazing. And how he went down and scooped up that last home run on a knee like you mentioned, Danny G. That was insane. But for him to win the MVP for that, I really do have a problem with that. I don't think he was the MVP because he had no hits in the game. This is like a separate portion of the game in my opinion. This is just my opinion. Relax. So not you, Danny G. I'm saying everybody who's like, yeah, dude, and then he gets MVP for hitting three meatballs. Pete Alonso hit a three run blast in the game. Legitimate pitcher off a legitimate pitcher. So yeah, Kyle Schwaber is a hero and it was incredible. I don't want to take anything away because he made it look easy. Dude, it was highly impressive. I get it. But he's the MVP for that. He had three meatballs for home runs. Yeah, it was a Big moment. But Pete alonzo, still the MVP, in my opinion.

Yeah. Dave DeMarco tweeted out this morning, Kyle Schwaber's bat has to be on the way to Cooperstown. The first ever perfect round in a swing off to win an All Star Game.

Yeah, it was cool. It was.

It was so cool. Guys, don't, don't.

Please don't misunderstand what I'm saying, but I still think that alongside of got the mvp. Yeah. That's how I. That's just how I felt because I'm like, that was just how you decided the winner. That wasn't really part of the game, was it? Or I guess we just have to look at it differently. Look, it's the first time we ever experienced it. These are the things I was thinking I did feel for Pete Alonzo, even though, you know, he's had his moments, he's good. This is what, fifth All Star Game, and it's wild to see guys like him. Are the veterans rich nowadays?

Yeah. He was saying that when he was miked up, how it's a great mix of young players and veterans. I just wanted to point out one thing, because there are going to be people that say Aaron Boone had rally and judge, and there's sluggers Ohtani that didn't do it. Leaving a game early. I'm not going to get down on them. It's an All Star Game. Then again, there are fans there watching in person and on tv. But I think it's one of those scenarios that we've all been through in life where you don't really think something's going to happen, so you don't prepare for it. Like, I'll give you one. And I hate to say it because we're all flying today, but you know when they're like, there might be turbulence and someone doesn't put their seatbelt on, and then. Then they might, you know, spill the drink or bump their head or something, or.

You leave that example.

You leave the house two flights today. Appreciate it.

You leave the house, right? And you're like, you know what? I'm wearing flip flops and I didn't comb my hair. I'm not gonna bump into anyone. And then you bump into, like, your high school sweetheart or so, you know, like, what's the chance? You always do the what's the chances? And I think Ohtani's probably in his limo. Like, what's the chances? Oh, I would.

Don't you think because of how this all played out. That might change moving forward.

And I think that now this may be a stretch too, but things like the Savannah Bananas, where they lean into the entertainment side of things, they do goofy things and they're willing to try other things, you know, sort of. Even though this was a decided thing a while ago, I feel like baseball's feeding off of those fun, theatrical antics. And it works. Sometimes some of the changes they've made are working. And that was one they made a few years back that actually works.

Oh, yeah. We didn't even talk about ABS and how they used that last night in a strike. A ball call was overturned for a strikeout.

How cool. And the reaction of Edwin Diaz when he's like, no, no, no, I think that caught the corner and they're like, yeah, it did. Strike three. Very cool.

Yeah, very cool to see.

And by the way, do you mind if that were incorporated in the regular season? If each team got. What would be the limit, you think? The balls and strike challenge, because you can't have too many because then it sort of slows the game.

But probably needs to be like three because it.

Cause they're real quick. It's like tap on the helmet and you find out within five seconds. So I think three a game is not crazy.

Maybe the people that volunteered, but I do think Pete Alonso got hosed of that.

Maybe the people that volunteered. Also on the flip, you know, saying guys like Ohtani and Judge like, yeah, what's the chances I won't do it? The guys are like, yeah, yeah, sure, I'll do it. Maybe those are the people like, you Said, maybe it's like at your workplace. It's like, who wants to be the fire marshal of this floor of the building? And then all of a sudden, someone lights something on fire in the kitchen. You're like, oh, man, Dwight, I'm the guy that's signed up.

Schwarz on his knee for that third home run was theater. The same way the night before Cal Raleigh was theater. Remember when his dad turned around and it was just. It was all of it. Man, what a week for baseball.

And by the way, we're allowed to gush, we're gushing. I know we sound like fanboys to the max. Baseball had a great week, but baseball had a great week. And how many people are quick to dump on baseball? How many times do we say, hmm, as hosts of a show, yeah, let's lead with football, because people get bored with baseball talk.

We keep. We keep it real. And I wasn't doing the field stuff with you guys earlier, but I stayed, you know, in the seats. And there were MLB executives in that row, and they were really happy with how it turned out. But what did we. You guys said it yesterday. You thought the Home Run Derby was going to be the highlight, and you said it on the air. So you're not fanboying too much because you were honest on yesterday morning show saying that, oh, Home Run Derby's the highlight. The game's probably going to be boring. You said that.

I did.

And I think a lot of people assume that. And then look what happened. They do the All Star Game better than any other sport. That's just a fact.

Danny G. To wrap it up, you know, again, we left. We're the worst, but so did Aaron Judge and Ohtani. Get off us.

And I said there were a lot of fans I saw leaving when it was six to three.

So they could have. And turn the audio up. Turn the volume up. Yeah. And then once we figured out what was going on, it. It. Dude, everybody was just so excited. And when Schwarber thought that his third one was gonna go foul, I thought because the way he was leaning and on his knee like that. I thought that ball was going foul. It wasn't really even that close when.

They brought out the net and when they brought out the net too, like, I'm like, what the heck.

And then I thought too, that's a, that's a decent amount of pressure too, for the pitching coaches. No. Also, they have to not deliver in an All Star game. They didn't plan, but they didn't plan on that.

Okay, so do you think the Bengals, in seeing this deal looked at him were like, that's awesome. Like literally not even a thought. Like never go near that.

I think. Yeah, that's absolutely sweet. They're not going near there.

Lavar, actually. And you backed him on this. Jonas Lavar made the case yesterday that he thinks Jerry Jones wants to say, hey, hey, boys, I'm paying, I'm paying the most defensive play the most money for the defensive play in the league. The non quarterback. I'm. I'm paying him the most.

That might be, that might be a little out of context though. I mean, I'm not saying he's waiting to say that. Well, I just don't think he wants to have to be the one that has to say he did it where he knows he has to. That's all.

Well, all I'm saying is the Cincinnati Bengals are the exact opposite.

But all serious, all seriousness, if you're Hendrickson, what are you going to do? Like, that's got to be the biggest question here. What is he going to do?

Why would you retire when you can make a lot of money like, okay, resign to the fact that you're not going to get that money from the Cincinnati Bengals. They're not going to trade them. Do you think they trade them? Who does the trade? Who does the trade?

[LeVar Arrington]

Well, they gave him a chance to go seek a trade, and nobody.

[Mark]

And nobody moved, nobody.

[LeVar Arrington]

Nobody budged.

[Mark]

Okay, so you don't have the opportunity to go seek a trade. I. I mean, is it messed up to say at some point you got to say, I'm not going to get this type of money in the market.

I'll get as close. He can get into the 30s, right?

[Jonas Knox]

Yeah, he can get close to it.

[Mark]

The tough part about his position now is you would have thought if something was going to happen, it would have happened earlier this year where there's a bit more cap space, teams are spending a lot of money. But, you know, again, we kind of talk about, like, deadlines, do deals. You always hear that phrase. In this case, look, he's under contract guy, and it's the last year of his deal, he's scheduled to make, what, 15.8, you know, as far as his. His salary this year, which is grossly underpaid considering how productive he's been the past two years. But he's 31, and we've talked, keep talking about that age 30 number and what that means for players as they move forward. Greater injury risk, you know, lack of production tends to kind of fall off. So that's that kind of that. That point in time where teams want to, you know, not necessarily have to shell out a ton of money. So I think as we get close to the season, he'll get traded for. And obviously, if that team trades for him, they know that, like, he's being traded to show up and get paid more than whatever the Bengals are paying him. I think the tough thing for the Bengals is that if they were going to replace him, which they have with their first round pick and Shemar Stewart, they should have done whatever trade deal was on the table before the draft because that's where you had the most leverage. Now that you already have his replacement, it looks kind of tough. And then on top of that, teams are looking at, you Thinking, well, you're kind of desperate because not only have you not signed this guy to extension, but your first round rookie, you know, draft pick has not even signed his deal. He hasn't been there at all. So it becomes a very difficult situation all the way around for Hendrickson purely because of the size of these deals that the bagels can't pay and then the fact of his age and factoring in other pieces of it and really the Bengals and where they're at, where they don't have to move on from him yet. I mean, and he's under contract so they can find him and they can, you know, do whatever they need to do to try to entice him to come back and play under the contract that he's currently playing on in this.

[LeVar Arrington]

In the same off season, max Crosby signed one for 35 million a year and now we've just seen TJ Watts sign one for 41.

[Mark]

It's going to be closer to Max.

[LeVar Arrington]

We've literally in the same off season. That was like two months ago.

[Mark]

And I honestly speaking, I think Cincinnati is going to try to get it for less than 35. I think it'll be in the 30s, but it's going to be less than 35 is going to be. What does Hendrickson want to do? But I think that again, back to the original point. Now the stage is set. Now Jerry Jones can go ahead. He knows what he has to pay. He can go to go to Micah's representation and say, here's the market. Here it's now, here it is. Like, let's get the deal done. I wouldn't be surprised if Michael Parsons deal drops today or like in the next couple days. Today, tomorrow, Monday. I wouldn't be sad.

So that's. They were just waiting on TJ that's what you're saying?

I believe so. I said it yesterday. I know I'm. I, I believe so. I do not think that they wanted to put.

You said he wasn't waiting, that he wasn't looking either. I said, well, smack him in the face.

You are. I, I almost called you a name on, on live radio. Why are you so stuck on that line like Michael, first of all, I'm talking about Jerry Jones, not Michael Parsons. And I stand 10 toes down on the 10 toes that Michael Parsons Hudson's is not looking for a contract. He's. The contract is coming to him. And Jerry Jones was most certainly, most likely waiting for TJ Watt to get his deal done. And I don't think that Jerry Jones would want it to be out there that the Pittsburgh Steelers did a better deal with T.J. watt than he did it with Micah Parsons. Knowing the conversations and the players as we mentioned that you have to make comparisons to as it applies to Michael Parsons. I stand on that.

Because of how much it is that. That they can.

Right, Exactly. So it like puts them in a category of like. Oh yeah. And it's like, okay, and. And this actually falls in that category. Then if you. You're telling me that you think he's going to kind of brag, if you will, about paying Micah Parsons more than any other player in the league.

I don't know that he's going to brag about it. I just know that he doesn't want to have to be in a situation where somebody else did a bigger deal for the same position.

We know this someone eventually will. I don't know who that player is, but we always know that like it.

Doesn'T to be at the same time. It doesn't need to be. And. And weeks apart, days apart.

I don't think it bothers him him if he ends up paying more than he could have two months prior. I don't think it bothers him at all. I, I think I've always thought it's like a fashionably late tax. Like he's okay.
