That was just sort of backyard football. Whoever has the ball last was going to win. The Vikings with Sam Darnold still look impressive. Eagles survive. Steelers look good. Buccaneers still alive. The Niners still alive. Bengals at the Cowboys. Cowboys are getting five and a half in Dallas, which is kind of surprising. All right, we'll talk about the college football playoffs. The bookmakers don't think these are going to be competitive games. This according to DraftKings this morning, Indiana against Notre Dame at Notre Dame. Indiana is getting seven and a half. SMU is getting nine at Penn State. Clemson getting 11 at Texas and then Tennessee getting seven and a half against Ohio State. By the way, odds to win the national title. We have co favorites to win the national title. Oregon and Texas are your co favorites this morning, followed by Georgia, Ohio State and then Penn State. If I would have said to you in September, hey, Arizona State's going to be in, Clemson's going to be in. SMU is going to be in. Boise State's going to be in. Indiana is going to be in. You'd go, Wait, basketball? No, football. Because Clemson got roughed up early. Remember that? Georgia roughed him up and then we moved on from Clemson. Well, all you have to do is win your conference. I mean, I don't know if Clemson's any good, but they won their conference, so they're in. SMU survived, and I say survived, so they could get in because they scored 17 points in the fourth quarter. If they do not score those 17, if they score seven. I don't think they're in the playoffs and I will sit corrected. I didn't think the committee was going to leave Alabama out and, and I'm not alone in that. But it was an interesting conversation they had to have with Alabama. Didn't get in. Why didn't they get in? They talk about strength of schedule. Well, when you get embarrassed, you got embarrassed against Vandy, you got embarrassed against Oklahoma. Just win. That's what this is all about. Arizona State, I think was picked for last in the Big 12. They're good team. They roughed up Iowa State. Boise State gets a buy. Indiana in at Notre Dame. But we're going to be talking about this and I think we had to go through this process for one year. Now I think they're going to tweak what, what you have to do where the seedings are first round by. This is where you just say, okay, let's see how this plays out. Let's see where some of the, you know, sensitive points are that we can correct. And I still maintain if you're going to do 12 teams, you win your conference, you get in. But that doesn't mean that you get a first round by. Boise State shouldn't get a first round by. Arizona State shouldn't get a first round by. I think it should be when your conference, now we start to seed this. That's what happens with the basketball tournament. You're not guaranteed a number one seed because you win the ACC or the sec. And I think that's what they need to do is Boise State. I'm glad they're in. Arizona State, I'm glad they're in. But then after that, I think you got to be fair to strength of schedule. And that's where I think that if you go with rankings, then I think you get a truer sense of how good teams are. What they did during the course of a year and if you had two losses, maybe three, what was your strength of schedule? This is what I worry about. And you already have athletic directors talking about this. Well, we're going to really look at, you know, out of conference scheduling because there is. There's no reason to do something out of conference and run the risk of losing. If you lose more than two games, you're not getting in or it's really going to be difficult. Clemson didn't play anybody. Clemson won the acc. That's all you have to do. Arizona State just win your conference. Boise State win your conference, you're in. But then after that, I think you need to have receding or seating. I can't be giving these schools at first round by. I don't think that's fair to the other conferences and the strength of schedule that they may have. You know, it's going to be tweaked, it's not perfect. And maybe eventually we get to the what are we doing? Why don't we just make this a pro model and there's going to be a certain number of schools that are going to play and there'll be schools maybe get relegated. Whatever you want to do with it, we're heading that way. It's almost like when we had one versus two and then we said, how about two more teams? Is that a lot? And then all of a sudden, you know, we had co national champs a long, long time ago. I mean, co national champ. Do you imagine if we had co national champs now? Hey, Georgia Tech and Colorado or co national champs, huh? But we had that. There's so much more attached to this, so many more people, so much more money attached to this. And that's why I think they'll get around to tweaking this a little bit more. And next year you'll probably have something along the lines of what I've been talking about. I have somebody who is close to the committee and they've told me that this, of course is a topic of conversation whether it gets enacted next year because I was told, Hey, 14, maybe next year, but probably going to be the following season where you'll have 14 schools instead of 12. Let's see how this plays out. It looks fun. It sounds fun. Would I have liked Alabama and South Bend? Yes, I would have. That would have been great. Tennessee, I love that against Ohio State. I mean, there's matchups where you go, all right, like Clemson's in, you know, and you get Texas, but they're scoring. It almost feels like Oregon would been better off losing the Big Ten title game. I get. I didn't think that they treated Oregon fairly there and Penn State. They look pretty good. They look pretty good. That's the first time where I go competitive neutral field and maybe they will be a tough out, but I think the first round by bothers people probably more than anything else involved in this because you're looking at Boise State and Arizona State and you're going, really? Yeah. But that's the system. This year, Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in the nation. He's Ryan Rossillo, host of the Ryan Resillo Podcast. You can check it out on the ringer and Spotify mentioned the story yesterday. It was a great story. And we were there at the beach bowl, the DirecTV Beach bowl in New York. I was doing play by play, if you want to call it that. We were hosting all of these starlets, these beautiful people. Ryan Masilla was in the game and apparently had a moment with Meghan Markle. We'll talk about shooting your shot there coming up in a moment. He also sent us a picture. We have documentation. There was some magic going on there, apparently. We'll get to that coming up in a moment. Ryan, good to have you back on. How are you?
Hoda Kotb
Great. I don't know how long it's been on since or how long it's been since it's been on, but the fact that it's. This is a big moment for me, so thank you.
Ryan Rossillo
Well, I did want to talk to you about NBA stuff. Okay.
Hoda Kotb
Okay.
Ryan Rossillo
Paulie. Paulie thinks LeBron announces his retirement at the All Star break. No, he'll go through the end of the season, but he'll announce that the second half of the season. That's his victory lap.
Hoda Kotb
I don't know. I think he's going to be really weird around the trade deadline. First, I think he has another one of those in him.
Ryan Rossillo
Well, it feels like there's this groundswell of, hey, let's help out LeBron get to Golden State. When LeBron created what he has in front of him, including drafting his son, getting AD and everybody else involved and getting JJ Redick as his coach, why are we all of a sudden like, yeah, you know, LeBron would be nice if he went out with Golden State and Steph Curry.
Hoda Kotb
Yeah, I think his both teams are desperate. Like when you watch the warriors, it was such a great start. And you kind of thought like, is an NBA team really a title contending team based on just depth? Right. One guy like, I think you're probably the same way as me is when I think about really special NBA teams in a season with a chance to win a championship. I'm like, who's the second guy that can get you buckets when the other guy can't? And Golden State doesn't really even have that guy. LeBron can score right now, but defensively he's somebody that is attacked. He had this incredible stretch when they were winning all those games. You could talk about it being an easier schedule, but I couldn't believe the effort that he was playing with. And I don't know if he was after that. Just exertion of energy, just having a hard time after the fact. Look, Dan, I actually feel I'm torn all the time with LeBron because he's out on the floor. We talk about the Lakers and we have to factor them as a contender. So I almost feel guilty when I'm critical of the nightly production or the lack of defense because at the same time, like the way he has pushed the boundaries of what we think is possible for a basketball player, it's, it's so impressive that I, I get just caught in this circle of what am I supposed to do? But if you're talking about the Lakers right now, they're not good enough.
Ryan Rossillo
But I don't know if we do this, like Larry Bird wasn't a good defender, like, would we be crushing Larry Bird now at the end of his career by saying, you know, they're going after Larry and you know, he, he hurt. I don't know, it feels like LeBron. It just attracts, you know, detractors, like there, there's, it's just they're looking for negatives with LeBron.
Hoda Kotb
Yeah, I think a lot of that is, is the social media part of it. And I also think that it's a very political thing with Jordan LeBron. You know, I've yet to see anybody change their mind ever. I've yet to ever see anybody not just sort of push propaganda. And then when I think about, like, I saw a comparison the other day between MJ's Last wizard season where I always felt like the, the Jordan wizard seasons were even more of, of an argument for how special he was. Like, if you go back to that, that next year, like the first year he played, he wasn't as good. And in the final year, you know, look like, what did you expect? And now when I'll see people compare, like, well, do you realize that Jordan had this number and LeBron is, I'm like, dude, are you seriously? We're two decades in on this and the 40 year old seasons are the ones that are going to break the tie. So, yeah, maybe. I just think LeBron's status and his fame probably leads it to a different level of scrutiny than, say, a bird. But it's also just what it is today. I mean, these guys deal with hate in ways that generations have never experienced.
Ryan Rossillo
Who's the best player in the NBA?
Hoda Kotb
Jokic. I don't really think it's. I hate that. You know, I always feel like every good point is ruined by somebody saying, I don't think it's close. But his control of a basketball game is unlike anything I've seen in a long time. And you could. You could throw peak LeBron into that as well. I was out in Denver and I saw him again live. There was a game there. I go to Colorado regularly. There was a night where they were playing the Wizards, and I just asked. I was like, can I get a ticket? And I got a ticket. I was like, well, it's the Wizard. So all I want to do is watch Jokic. I just want to watch him. I'm going to watch him off the ball. I'm going to watch him with the ball. All I want to do is just watch him and his understanding and the way he dissects all of these different things. Things. And what I always love, too, is, like, it's a bit like Steph. It's a bit like Nash. Jokic could take 22 shots a game and they'd be good games and they'd be good looks. He was second in the MVP voting the one year he didn't win it to MB and he took 14.7 shots per game. That's special to control a basketball game for the 30 plus minutes that you're out there. And his priority is actually not to try to find a way to get buckets, even though he could every single time. I just. I know Giannis is on a tear right now. He was so impressive last night. But I love the way Jokic. I think this is like, rarefied stuff, and I'm rooting for him to have a second ring. In a way. I wouldn't root for a lot of players because I want him to be accepted by. I think what becomes way too simple of a conversation of who the great ones are.
Ryan Rossillo
Yeah, I agree with you, but I think Denver did him a disservice. They didn't strengthen around him, and I don't think he's going to win a ring unless they get Jimmy Butler or somebody like that. You know, maybe they. That that roster is not threatening they're kind of an average team. But I don't know if he's, he's putting up incredible numbers that are hard to ignore, even though his team, we like team success to coincide with greatness. And I don't think that he's going to have his team is going to let him down for another mvp.
Hoda Kotb
I hope it's not Butler. You know, if he has a $50 million player option next year. It kind of gets back to your original point, Dan too of like, would LeBron like to go to Golden State? It's like, is that a solution or is that desperation? Is the team that wants Jimmy Butler at this stage of his career is, is that a solution to what you're doing or are you talking about somebody who decides he's going to be a huge problem until he gets the contract extension? Now his agent had said, hey, I'm going to opt out, whatever. It was just funny because I was looking at shme Butler's numbers the other day. Jimmy Butler's taking 11 shots a game and he's somehow taking seven and a half free throws a game. So it's, it's kind of working. But if I'm trading for Jimmy at this age, I'm going to need, I'm going to need a few more shot attempts because there's certain nights, it looks like where I don't know if he's pacing himself or he's not super interested.
Ryan Rossillo
What do you think about this proposal? If I asked the commissioner, can we do away with the three point shot for a week in the NBA?
Hoda Kotb
I'm open to anything now at this point. Okay. I really love the in season tournament. I think it's a home run. I think Silver and everybody, like I watch games and I feel like it's, it's more intense than maybe you would think this time of year. So that is like a 10 out of 10 the playing thing I didn't love because I think certain years you're going to have teams that won like 36, 37 games in the east and be like, they get another run at this. You know, like I'm upset about some of the college football expansion, but this, the, the event planning is basically what I leading here to. I'm, I think this is where all of this stuff is going. I would love a week of this. However, I would ask a lot of old school people like this because I know that you're old school, Dan. I don't mean an age, I mean in education. Do you miss post play? Do you do you watch games now and be like, you know, I just would love to see a Rick Smith's baseline entry pass right now. Do you miss it?
Ryan Rossillo
Okay, okay.
Hoda Kotb
I don't know if I miss it.
Ryan Rossillo
No, no, hold on, hold on. So you don't miss Aim Elijuan in the post?
Hoda Kotb
Of course I miss.
Ryan Rossillo
You don't miss Shaq in the post?
Hoda Kotb
I don't know that Shaq in the post was Akeem, to me was more entertaining than Shaq was Mikhail. All right, fine, like, let's go through it all. But I don't, I don't know if I miss two man basketball entry pass on the block, three guys watching, never moving.
Ryan Rossillo
Do you miss the mid range jumper, Ryan?
Hoda Kotb
No, if I do, I just watch the Phoenix Suns.
Ryan Rossillo
Yeah. Kevin Durant. Absolutely. Or you see what I'm saying, Demar De Rosen?
Hoda Kotb
Because I think you're right. Like the three point part of this is kind of messed it up, right? There are nights where I go, whoa, this isn't, this isn't the best. I can't believe how quick some of the shots are. Some of the threes, I'm like, I get you want to take a lot of threes, but are these good Shot decision. We're even ready for the shot. But I wonder sometimes if we glorify just some of. I mean, the Mark Jackson rule. It was like, hey, your post ups take so long. We have to pass the rule.
Ryan Rossillo
You're too boringly efficient. We must take that out of the game. How about you get a 25 three pointers attempts each game?
Hoda Kotb
Yeah. Kind of like a short porch for the men's softball league.
Ryan Rossillo
Use, use, you know, sparingly, save for the fourth quarter. Maybe you could keep it in without it being. There are a lot of teams that shoot threes. There's a lot of teams that shouldn't shoot threes. But that's the, that's the whole math part of this.
Hoda Kotb
Would Jordan pool be cut that day?
Ryan Rossillo
He might be punched again. All right, I build up the suspense, the drama of you. So what year was this that you were trying to hook up with Meghan Markle?
Hoda Kotb
Well, I think I was asking her if she had any interest in promoting suits. So there was that.
Ryan Rossillo
Okay, let's start with the game. Let's start with the game. Because you weren't talking promoting suits on your radio show at the game, were you?
Hoda Kotb
No, no. I got invited to play in the DirecTV flag football thing. You know, I was easily, I think, the least famous person that played in it. But ESPN Usually would get somebody to play in the game because DirecTV want someone on the air to talk about it. I think I asked for five grand and they said, how about zero because everybody was getting paid. And then they told me they'd get me tickets to their directv concert for the super bowl party. And then when I went to get the tickets, they weren't even there for me. So they snipped me on the tickets too. So it was, it was bad. It was a bad, bad run for your boy. But Van and I were doing the show.
Ryan Rossillo
Okay. First time you meet her though, so the first time you see her on the, on the. Are you teammates on the beach?
Hoda Kotb
We're teammates.
Ryan Rossillo
Okay.
Hoda Kotb
Yep. Blue team.
Ryan Rossillo
Okay.
Hoda Kotb
So there's. Jesse Palmer was my quarterback and we were buddies, so that helped a little bit. And no, I. Look, there was a million swimsuit models from Sports Illustrated. I think Chrissy Teigen was on one of the teams. Serena Williams, although I think she was smart as a world class athlete to not run around on the sand and play flag football. So there was just all these models everywhere and it was also a lot of the athletes, you know. So I was playing defense in the first half, which is a funny story because Joe Montana was our coach and we were. She was playing defense somewhere. We get subbed out. We were just kind of bored off to the side and we were just kind of talking about anything because nobody was talking to me. And you know, I don't know, she just was, she was very girl next doorish. And then I went up to Joe Montana and was like, hey, is there any way. Because you know how the radio show works. If I go back on Monday with Van Pellet, I don't have a catch, I'm going to get crushed for three hours. So I go to Montana, who I'd met luckily once before. So there was some. It wasn't out of nowhere, although he didn't love my request. I was like, is there any way I can get like one possession on offense for the radio show? And Montana turns to me and goes, well, you know, we got Ladanian Tomlinson and Tony Gonzalez, two bleeping hall of Famers, Ryan, but let's get you out there for a possession. So I, I finally go to Palmer, I go, just throw me, give me one route and throw me the ball. I make a catch and then I'd come back and you know, we, we'd all high five. And then I ended up catching the game winning touchdown, which I still feel bad about because I like spiked the ball in front of Desmond Howard. And he hasn't talked to me in like 10 years. And I don't blame him too, because he was like, I was a little bit too much. And then girls were coming up to high five me, and I still was so locked in on the game winning touchdown that I. I just started, like, marching through everybody, like, couldn't. Couldn't be faced. So anyway, the game is over. Confetti rains down. And then she and I were, like, waiting for our cars to bring us back because they had organized all of our transportation. And I was like, hey, you know, great meeting you, whatever. And then we followed each other and I. All I did was, was ask if she wanted to come on the show with Van Pelt and I to promote suits. And she said no. And that's it. I've told the story a couple times, but the funniest part of this whole thing is it years later, you know how, like, Pierce Morgan went on this weird sharing episode of, like, how he thought he was going to date her. Remember that? And he would. He would talk about it. So because Carissa Thompson and Sarah Walsh, who we both worked with at ESPN and are really good friends, they knew the story, they thought it was hilarious that I asked her to come on the TV show or our TV show to promote hers, and she said no, that I ended up seeing these Pierce Morgan tweets. And then I would just tweet above his, like, hey, I know you don't believe me, but it does get better. And that was. That was kind of the inside joke. And so I did it a third time, like a year ago where I was like, I am here for you if you need anything pierced. And he never responded, nor would I expect him to. I get a text from a different coworker who was like, I don't understand your problem here. I think you're fine. Like a real pick me up text. And I'm sitting home and I'm by myself and I read this text and I go, I can't believe Jeff Van Gundy just texted me about a pick me up, kind of boost me up, that it's okay, that Markle didn't want to and he didn't know the story, so he actually sort of pierced Morgan me or. I don't know how it works.
Ryan Rossillo
Did you think he had a shot, though? You said you thought she was obtainable?
Hoda Kotb
No, I think. Well, that was a live show, so we playing up to the crowd there a little bit. So there could be a semantics debate on that. One I felt like, because it was like Hannah Davis and Nina Dobrev and Agdal, I think was I lose track. Yeah, yeah, it was, it was, it was a five star recruiting class. And so because of that and the other athletes, like we were just off to the side a bunch kind of being like, who are they? And so it was just, you know, who knows? It could have been the start to our story. But I now think, armed with this much information, I'm not sure that I could provide her the life she needed.
Ryan Rossillo
Okay, if, if I gave you a mulligan, what would you have done differently?
Hoda Kotb
Well, you, you could argue that a hair transplant, but I think the hair is not a priority to her.
Ryan Rossillo
No. Harry's holding on for dear life.
Hoda Kotb
Yeah. So it, I don't, I don't think it's that. I don't know what else I could do. You know, I talked Joe Montana to putting me on offense. I caught the game winning touchdown. Obviously the competitive. Maybe I was too competitive.
Ryan Rossillo
Oh, I think you've been accused of that. And I could see being locked in. I could see that it was very important to you. You just didn't celebrate the way you're supposed to. It should have been, yeah, I've been here before. And then you walk up to her and you say, hey, how about we go celebrate together?
Hoda Kotb
With that tone? Yeah, note for note.
Ryan Rossillo
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Hoda Kotb
I don't, I don't think that was gonna happen. I think she lived in New York City too, so it was like a, it wasn't a huge, A huge.
Ryan Rossillo
She actually left the country after this because you run. Wow.
Hoda Kotb
I didn't think it was going to go there.
Ryan Rossillo
She went, she went to England to get away from you.
Hoda Kotb
Honestly, there's probably somebody from USA Network listeners right now being like, we would have loved to promote suits.
Ryan Rossillo
Hey, it's made a comeback. It's like crazy, you know, it's like, hey, have you seen suits? I said, yeah, 10 years ago. Does anybody think that Ryan had a shot here, let me go around the.
Hoda Kotb
Room here, just all say, no, Paul.
Ryan Rossillo
He'S got his hand up.
Hoda Kotb
I think, Ryan, you would have had a decent shot at that time. You're a confident guy and I think you could have played it up in that moment and maybe gotten a dinner. I really don't think so. I don't think so. You know, I'm sure, I think at that point my name was on the show because that was always a tough one. Be like, what do you do? I host a radio show where at espn. What's it called? The Scott Van Pelt Show.
Ryan Rossillo
Are you Scott Van Pelt? No. Why?
Hoda Kotb
How does that work?
Ryan Rossillo
Yes. Wow.
Hoda Kotb
Get your drink.
Ryan Rossillo
Well, keep fighting the good fight. You know, we're proud of you. You took a shot. Kind of.
Hoda Kotb
Yeah. And look, I mean, I would say now the, the home base is a little bit better of a sell than. Yeah, I have a three bedroom townhouse in West Hartford, but they mow. Hoa does a good job with the lawn and the plowing and stuff. And, you know, now we're situated out here in Manhattan Beach. Still three bedroom, but, you know, no hoa.
Ryan Rossillo
You could have made her happy. She could have been behind you cooking breakfast right now.
Hoda Kotb
Yeah, more. You know, I'm not real married to rolls. Maybe I would cook.
Ryan Rossillo
That'd be nice. Yeah. And I'd be interviewing her. But I'm glad you got your name on your show, though. That.
Hoda Kotb
That was big.
Ryan Rossillo
That is big.
Hoda Kotb
And the touchdown.
Ryan Rossillo
Thanks for joining us. Thanks for sharing.
Hoda Kotb
Hey, you're the only person I do it for. You know how much I like you. I miss all the guys. So. Thanks, Dan.
Ryan Rossillo
Thank you, Ryan. Be sure to catch the live edition of the Dan Patrick show, weekdays at 9am Eastern, 6am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Congratulations to CBS Sports and Sony Electronics for their first place wins for innovation in industry at this year's unconventional awards by T Mobile for Business. In a collaboration that was clearly built on breaking new ground, CBS and Sony created a first of its kind broadcast for the PGA Championship. Using a custom built T Mobile Private 5G network to power the live production, they deployed a 5G wireless camera system throughout the event. The network's speed, combined with Sony's innovative ultra low latency video codec allowed for seamless, high quality footage without disruption. With that innovative approach, CBS gave broadcasters the tools they need to do what they do best. Take their coverage to entirely new places. These innovations will shape the way live sports are covered moving forward. And for that, T Mobile congratulates Sony and CBS for their unconventional thinking.

North Carolina has hired Bill Belichick. After winning six Super Bowls in the NFL, Belichick is on to his next challenge and that's coaching in college, which is something he's never done before. And I think that the surprise is, well, he was going to be the NFL's all time victory holder. He would surpass Don Shula. But over the last year and a half, the league's interest in Belichick hasn't been as robust as he probably thought. And certainly we thought as well. So he turned his attention to college or maybe college turned its attention to him. But as I said, for the last couple of days, I think he realized he was not going to get a job in the NFL. Plenty of other NFL head coaches have found success going to college. Jim Harbaugh with Michigan, Pete Carroll, usc. Nick Saban, who didn't coach well with the Dolphins, went to Alabama, although he did well at lsu. So the transition from Belichick, NFL to college football, ACC football, a football program at a basketball school. And there are a lot of people, I think there's a surprising amount of people, maybe more people who have a negative reaction to Bill succeeding than a positive reaction because we hear the same things. His age, relatability with an 18 or 19 year old nil transfer portal. What's he know about the college game? So these are all the things that, and it's fair to question this or at least observe this and give a, you know, reasonable answer of yes or no. He's going to be able to do this. He's the most prepared coach of all time. The fact that he had a 400 page dossier, he went in there and said, hey, here, I'll give you everything about your program. What I want, what I need, assessing the acc. So he's going in prepared. It's not like he's going to go in and go, hey, what's this Nil, that's name, image and likeness. Oh, now the transfer portal. Where is that? On campus? Where do, where do the kids come in from on the portal? No, no, it's just kind of a name. It's the transfer portal. Wait, they're getting paid. He's going to be prepared when he goes in. And plus, what is success for Bill Belichick in college? Nine wins, 10 wins. And you're also buying into Bill Belichick. You're buying into Carolina. You're buying into. Yes, they are a basketball school. You got the Jordan brand there as well. It's still powerful with Bill Belichick on the sidelines. He still knows how it's coaching football, whether it's high school, college, pro, you're coaching football. Nobody is better at adapting quarter to quarter, half to half, game to game than Bill Belichick. In the history of the sport, I have to believe you're going to take this job. He'll be all in on this job and he knows his son is going to be there with him. He's probably going to bring in a lot of his coaches he had in New England. You're getting Mike Lombardi, who's been around the NFL for decades. He'll be his gm. He's going to bring in experienced people just like Dion did. Remember when Deion got to Colorado, I said, dion will be successful if he brings in really good coaches because he'll be the CEO. And what do you have after one and a half years, two years, Deion has his team at least knocking on the door to be a playoff team next year, and they certainly were this year. Now, do I think that is what Bill's going to do? Well, he's not going to bring in his son, doesn't play quarterback. Is he going to be able to bring in a player like Travis Hunter who everybody wanted and was going to go to Florida State? I think the key will be, does he get his quarterback just like he had in New England and they kept Tom there? You can't keep your quarterback in college. They'll stay, but maybe they'll stay for four years. Can you get a franchise type quarterback? Because if you go back and listen to what Bill Belichick said on the Pat McAfee show on Monday, he's looking at college football the way he did the NFL. It seems like college football is more like pro football. I've talked to a lot of college coaches about things like the salary cap and putting value on players and negotiating, kind of mixing all that together. So I think there are some similarities. From what I've heard, I haven't experienced it firsthand. Okay, what's the downside? He fails. If you're Caroline, you took a shot. Can you imagine that conversation with Mac Brown? Hey, Mac, we're going to go with somebody younger. He's a year younger than you. So you bring in Belichick, the relatability. I don't know how much he has to relate. Oh, is he going to go on the road and recruit? No, he's not. They have something called Zoom all of a sudden. Mom and dad, hey, Coach Belichick is on the Zoom wants to talk to you. I think that's probably pretty powerful. How many other college coaches, Dion Belichick, who else would you put in there? And you go, hey, stop everything. Coaches on the phone with me or on a Zoom. It's still a powerful brand there. Now, is he going to want to put up with all the smaller things? I don't think he's going to be dealing with the smaller things. He doesn't deal with nil. He probably won't deal with transfer portal. Now everything is going to be run by him. There's no salary camp. You're Playing in the ACC feels like it's up for grabs. If Carolina's getting money together, they're collective. Okay, if I just say to Bill Belichick, just coach. We have everybody else who would take care of other things. Dion doesn't do everything. Deion is a CEO. That's what Bill will be. But Bill is obviously a better coach than Dion. He's not as good a CEO, but he'll be a better coach. Now, the people you put around you, who do you recruit? And does this matter to these kids who are 18 or 19? Because if I'm 18 or 19, I may not really care about Bill Belichick. My dad or mom may care. My high school coach may care. I want to get ready to go to the NFL. That's what this is about. And I think Bill going there. Bill is. Bill's got a chip on his shoulder. I truly believe that, hey, Tom did this. And Tom went to Tampa. And meanwhile, I held on for four more years and we were terrible. And yeah, I did make the playoffs with Mac Jones, but it didn't end well. Tom, it feels weird though. Just like Tom had something to prove, at least he felt, hey, I can do this without Bill. Bill wants to prove that he can still be a great coach no matter where he's going. I thought he was going to stay in the NFL if he was going to coach again, but I didn't think he was going and said this. I didn't think he was coaching in the NFL again. I just didn't think he was coaching in college because I didn't know if he, like, I just want to coach. And that's what it feels like. And you set your son up. He obviously wants to kind of put in place a system that his son will then inherit in, let's say, three years. And it'll be successful. And I'm sure Bill will stay on with the program. But I see, you know, far more positives than I do. Negative. But this whole out of touch thing, I don't know if Bill was ever in touch with the Patriots. You know, it's not like they were like, man, I really know him. And yeah, he's got a great sense of humor. Okay. Relatability. An 18, 19 year old. I don't know what they're going to be asking from Bill. I don't know what Bill is going to be giving them other than, hey, I want to make you a player ready to play in the NFL. That's what they want to hear. How much do I get paid and am I going to play and hopefully I get a chance to play in the NFL? Yes. I'm curious what kind of player positionally is most interested in going to North Carolina now? Because if I was a player like, say, like a Jaden Daniels type or something, like, I don't know if that's the way I want to go, but if I'm a, you know, defensive lineman or offensive lineman even, you know, linebacker or something, be like, hell, yeah, this is exactly what's going to get me to the NFL. So I'm, I'm curious how the team will take shape based on that. Yeah. And I, you know, Bill's whole thing is next guy up. Let's say you have somebody who wants $8 million. And Bill might say, no, we'll find somebody else. I don't think he'll have the patience for that. That he always was next man up with the Patriots and will probably be that way with North Carolina. But who cared about North Carolina prior to this? You know, the last time we talked about him is when they lost to a school named after a founding father. They lost. They gave up 70 points to Jimmy Madison. What do you. That's when we go, oh, my God, they could have scored 100 on North Carolina. Mac Brown's got to go like, that's it. Nobody else cares. He put him on. He at least put them on the football map. Yes. It's a basketball school, just like Kentucky football, you know, Georgia basketball. Arkansas used to be a football school. Now it feels like it's a basketball school. It does happen. It does. But is it going to change there in North Carolina? It won't. If they win, people are still going to, you know, ask, you know, Hubert Davis. How's the team going to be now? Do you introduce Bill Belichick at a North Carolina basketball game? Right. You got to bring him out. Just don't have him do the Brian Kelly. Haven't even won all my game. If he comes up with a Southern accent, I'm going to call BS on Belichick. And what he says is, and he's going to pull a trestle. And when we play Duke on October 12, we're winning.
Dylan Gabriel
He gets the rivalry.
Ryan Rossillo
He gets us. He gets us. He knows who we are, what matters. It's just when he says, you know, I saw an article, it's like, hey, he's going to win the press conference. Really? When is Bill won a press conference? I get it. Maybe Pat McAfee unlocked the personality chest that he has the cabinet there. It's like, hey, man, he, that dude is ape. He's a talking hairdo there. No, Bill will talk to football people. He doesn't want to talk to us. He doesn't want to talk to, you know, the media. But I think, Bill, we're talking about North Carolina football. That's a win, dog. That's a win. Yes.
Hoda Kotb
Marvin, the most important thing regarding this entire situation is what color sweatshirt is.
Ryan Rossillo
Belichick going to wear?
Hoda Kotb
Because I'm not sure if he's going to rock the powder blue.
Ryan Rossillo
He can't go. That's too, that's too blue for him. I think he's got to go dark blue with maybe, maybe some light blue on, on the sleeves.
Hoda Kotb
Yes, Paulie, no sleeves. You go sleeveless.
Ryan Rossillo
It's hot down there in September.
Hoda Kotb
You're going to go sleeveless gun show.
Ryan Rossillo
Let's do it. Yes.
Hoda Kotb
I think the beginning of the year, since it's going to be 85, 90 degrees their first couple of games, he's going to have a polo on, navy.
Ryan Rossillo
Blue polo with the North Carolina on the side. Maybe tank top. You know.

Dylan Gabriel, Oregon quarterback, Heisman Trophy finalist and joining us. Are you in New York?
Dylan Gabriel
I am, I am. I'm in a hotel room and excited.
Ryan Rossillo
Are you been in New York before?
Dylan Gabriel
I have once, but definitely not this type of way.
Ryan Rossillo
Okay. What do you want to see? You got to, you got to walk around a little bit.
Dylan Gabriel
I'm. I'm actually going to Be asking some of the New York natives here to kind of show me around. Of course, Central Park, Times, squares right down the street. So check that out. Last night and then this morning, made a little way to the Nike store, so got a little bit of scenery.
Ryan Rossillo
Okay. What are your expectations on what will happen on Saturday night at the ceremony?
Dylan Gabriel
What will be is. Is what it'll be. I think, you know, whoever wins, man, that's such a big blessing. But just to be here as well, just to connect with those guys, that's gonna be a lot of fun. And should we get to enjoy New York together? So it'll be a lot of fun.
Ryan Rossillo
Okay, but the camera's gonna be on you. So when they call Travis Hunter's name, just, you know, just make sure that you're smiling like, yeah, you know, you got invited. You're playing for maybe a national championship. That's more important than this. So just so you know. And do we have the outfit already picked out of what we're wearing tomorrow?
Dylan Gabriel
We do, we do. I'm a, you know, I'm a style it up a little bit. I think I'll catch some people by surprise. Not to hype it up too much, but, you know, I'll make sure I make it do what it do, at least from a fashion standpoint.
Ryan Rossillo
Okay, here's the thing. This will be played years from now, so whatever you're wearing, just understand 10 years from now, they're going to say, oh, remember the Heisman ceremony when Dylan Gabriel wore that? In a good way, hopefully.
Dylan Gabriel
Well, let's just say. Let's just say it's not going to be like the NBA in 2005 with those oversized suits. So I'll do that one. So I think I feel pretty good.
Ryan Rossillo
Okay. When you guys were watching the Selection Sunday show and you saw kind of where you guys were going to be, I'm not sure if you had the same reaction I had is, damn, they put some tough teams in front of you if you guys are going to win a national title. Felt like it was a little unfair. Dylan, how did you and your teammates feel?
Dylan Gabriel
Totally out of our control. I think, naturally, it being the first year, there's definitely going to be some things they'll have to work on. But in terms of our team and what we got ahead of us, I think it's going to be a lot of fun, you know, being able to be in the Rose Bowl. Like I said, we can't really control, you know, what teams we do play, but, you know, we're in the playoffs. So there's going to be a lot of great teams and you look forward to whatever matchup comes your way. But like I said, I think there will be some conversations down the road and some cleaning up in that sense. But, you know, it is what it is and we're excited either way.
Ryan Rossillo
You predate Covid and Nil. That's how long you've been in college. Take me back to that freshman year, that quarterback, compared to who you are now.
Dylan Gabriel
Are you saying I'm old?
Ryan Rossillo
You. You're college old?
Dylan Gabriel
I am college old. No, I'll say this 2019 was. Was so different from what it is today in college football. You know, I think the innocence of college football was still there. The, you know, remembering when, you know, you're living off the coa check semester to semester, which honestly was decent at the time, but compared to what it is now, you just have a lot of appreciation knowing that I was able to go through kind of both sides of that.
Ryan Rossillo
Okay, what was the money like your freshman year? What's the money like now?
Dylan Gabriel
I could tell you freshman year. I can't tell you now, but freshman year it was like $2,500 semester. Okay, so you get, you know, five grand a year and of course there's money for rent and stuff like that, but. And then you go to fast forward. I think I'll leave that to everyone else's imagination. But, you know, even in my sophomore year, going through Covid, you know, interesting season, and then, you know, utilizing the portal, which is what I've done in, you know, my junior year and even up until this year, and then Nil. So I. I've kind of seen it all in that sense and kind of had the fun of pre. All this thing happening and then, you know, enjoying it post as well.
Ryan Rossillo
You don't have any more eligibility after this year, right?
Dylan Gabriel
I don't. I could probably ask for it and see, but that'll be declined real fast.
Ryan Rossillo
And that leather jacket you got on looks like it does that. Nil leather jacket.
Dylan Gabriel
It might be Phil and Nike, man, but no, I'm always rocking the Nike swoosh. And you know, us being at Oregon, there's only one way to do it.
Ryan Rossillo
But when you go to the Nike plant or Nike headquarters, can you just walk in and just say, I got a shopping cart and pick up stuff?
Dylan Gabriel
Well, this morning we. We did walk in at Nike in New York. So like I said, I'll leave that to your imagination.
Hoda Kotb
But they take care of it.
Ryan Rossillo
Oregon will win the national Title if.
Dylan Gabriel
Prepare the right way and take care of business. You know, we got to be present, too. I think Coach Landing said it the best, and that's why I love playing for him is, you know, it is win or go home, and you got to take care of business right where your feet are. You know, in the present moment, I think it's so easy for a lot of teams to look forward, you know, and not only the first game, but the semifinals, the national championship. It's like, hey, you got to take care of business right where your feet are. You know, we got the rose bowl here January 1st, and I think if we stay present, we prepare the right way, then the rest will take care of itself.
Ryan Rossillo
Congrats on the season. Have fun on Saturday. Hair looks good. Hair looks good. Yeah, I mean, I got.
Dylan Gabriel
I got one question for you.
Ryan Rossillo
Okay.
Dylan Gabriel
How's the. The happy Gilmore 2 filming? I heard it was good.
Ryan Rossillo
Yep. I. I shot that last Thursday, and it was. It was fun. It's a. You know, Sandler's put me in a lot of his movies, so. Yeah. And this has got a. An interesting plot twist that I didn't think that you would have with Happy Gilmore 2. Just saying. It'll. It'll be a big blockbuster, but it. But it's fun. It's. You know, whenever you're around Sandler, it's always a good time.
Dylan Gabriel
Well, if you ever need extra. Oh, you know, movie. I'm. I'm working on my acting skills, so I would love to. If you needed one. You know, my. My acting skills are subpar but average. But I think maybe I could get some coaching from you and maybe we can make it happen.
Ryan Rossillo
Are you acting now?
Dylan Gabriel
In this moment?
Ryan Rossillo
Yeah.
Dylan Gabriel
No, but if you need me to, because I'm.
Ryan Rossillo
I'm acting now. How about this? I want you to act. Okay, Here you go. I want you to act happy for Travis Hunter. Tomorrow night, I want you to act. So when I say I'm Chris Fowler and I'm up there, and I say. And the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner, Colorado's Travis Hunter.
Dylan Gabriel
What if Ashton wins it? Then I gotta act.
Ryan Rossillo
You gotta act there, too.
Dylan Gabriel
I got you.
Ryan Rossillo
Wait, you missed your cue to act. The camera was on you. You. Damn. I don't know if you look happy for him. Okay, you can't vote for yourself. Who would you vote for for the Heisman Trophy?
Dylan Gabriel
Oh, I'm gonna get some heat for this one, but I'm gonna say Aston Jenti. And I say that because me being at the group of five once knowing, you know, the challenges that come with that. Of course. I played against Aston this year. I think he's a talented individual. You know, his story is unique and what he's been able to do is pretty impressive. And you put me in a spot. So I think this, this may be quoted, but no, I do think, you know, he's extremely worthy of it and a guy who's, well, you don't have.
Ryan Rossillo
To worry about facing Travis Hunter, though. So, like, if you said, oh, I wouldn't have voted for him, I'd vote for, you know, gentee. And then you had to play Colorado. And then Travis Hunter is going to say, I'm going to pick off a couple of your passes so you don't have to worry about that until you get to the NFL.
Dylan Gabriel
I know. Then we'll maybe see each other then. Yeah. You got to watch your words now that you don't know who you'll play.
Ryan Rossillo
Oh, yeah, I know, I know. All right, well, you know what, act like a Heisman finalist when you have your first game, whoever that's going to be against. So that's either Tennessee or Ohio State.
Dylan Gabriel
I like that.
Ryan Rossillo
Yeah.
Dylan Gabriel
Hey, we'll see. We'll see what happens.
Ryan Rossillo
Congrats. Have fun in New York. All right.
Hoda Kotb
Thank you.
Ryan Rossillo
That's Dylan Gabriel.
