Near the end of the Theosophy series, Rey examines the strange lives of Peter Ouspensky and John G. Bennett, who were followers of Gurdjieff, but also gurus in their own right with many followers of their own. They struggled with the legacy of Gurdjieff in different ways, but both were in pretty sad states by the end of their lives.

George Gurdjieff was never formally a theosophist, but his "doctrine" contained a very similar backstory, and many of his followers were former theosophists. Gurdjieff was a practice-oriented despotic cult leader, whose follwers believed him to be one of the Masters of the Great White Brotherhood described by Helena Blavatsky.

In the fourth episode of our series on Theosophy, Rey talks about the founder of Anthroposophy, Austrian guru Rudolf Steiner. Steiner started started out as a Theosophist, but was much too ambitious and much too German for that movement. --- Subscribe to https://patreon.org/tenepod https://bsky.app/profile/tenepod.bsky.social https://x.com/tenepod

The story of the Theosophical Society takes a dark turn, as we examine the malignant influence of Charles Leadbeater, how he took an Indian boy from his family, and together with James Wedgwood formed the Liberal Catholic Church and proclaimed himself a Bishop. --- Subscribe to https://patreon.org/tenepod https://bsky.app/profile/tenepod.bsky.social https://x.com/tenepod

Rey started reading a book (Madame Blavatsky's Baboon by Peter Washington) on the very influential Theosophical Society, which was in many ways the starting point for Western Occultism in the 19th century.
