How would you characterize Ms. Maxwell's relationship with Chelsea Clinton? Friendly. And how often did they interact? I don't know. You attended Chelsea Clinton's wedding in July 2010, correct? Yeah. And Ghislaine Maxwell attended the wedding with you? Yeah. And she attended the wedding with you in what capacity? She was my girlfriend at the time. As your date? Yeah. Did she also receive an invitation to the wedding or was she your plus one? I don't recall how the invitation was addressed. What wedding events did you attend on the day of Chelsea Clinton's wedding? I don't remember. I can give you some examples. I think you would know better than me how many people were there. But it was a large wedding and as you know, at weddings the bride is usually quite busy. How did other people attending the wedding event react to you bringing Ms. Maxwell to the wedding? She knew people there. Did anyone seem surprised or Question did anyone seem surprised? No. Question. Did you need to go through any Secret Service protocols or procedures to go to Chelsea Clinton's wedding since her father was President Clinton? Answer, not that I know of. Did Ms. Maxwell go through any. Answer, not that I know of. In 2009, the year before Chelsea Clinton's wedding, Ms. Maxwell had been subpoenaed to testify in a civil case against Jeffrey Epstein, which was brought by one of his accusers. And then months before Chelsea's wedding, miss Maxwell claimed she could not appear for her deposition because she claimed she was out of the country for family reasons. Were you aware that Ms. Maxwell was actively avoiding her appearance at a deposition at the time she attended Chelsea Clinton's wedding with you? No, not that I recall. Did you ever discuss the deposition with Ms. Maxwell? I remember it being an issue, but I don't remember it being an issue at that time. I think it was later. Can you elaborate a little bit on what you mean by an issue? Later in our relationship, she was quite stressed about a deposition, subpoena, whatever. I'm not exactly sure what it was. There were some legal matters going on pertaining to Mr. Epstein that. That she was upset about Mr. Spector, later in your relationship. So when are you talking about Mr. Waite? It would have been. I guess it would have been that time in 2010, Mr. Spector. So right around the time of the wedding, Mr. Waite? Yeah. I don't know if it was before or after. Ms. Cathay, did you ever try to assist Ms. Maxwell with the deposition or anything related to her being brought to court? No question. You didn't pay for attorneys anywhere. Were you aware that Ms. Maxwell was avoiding the deposition by saying she was out of town for an extended period of time? No. Do you know if she ever actually left the country in 2010? I don't know. She also claimed that her mother was sick. Were you aware of her mother being sick at any point in those two years? At some point I remember her mother, but I don't know if it was that time. I don't recall. Did she often visit her family back in England? Yes. Question about how often? Once or twice a year, maybe. Did you ever go with her? Yes. Can you recount those times? I don't know exactly what the dates were. Can you describe a little bit more about the trips that you took with her to see your family there? I just remember going once to meet her mother. Did you ever discourage her from avoiding the deposition or did you ever encourage her to go to the deposition? Answer. I don't recall that level, that detail of conversation around that topic. Question Glenn Maxwell was arrested on July 2, 2020, and charged with, among other things, the recruitment, the grooming and the abuse of underage girls and other women in the 90s and early 2000s. So when did you first learn that Ms. Maxwell had been arrested same time as everybody else on television? Question Were you surprised when you learned that she'd been arrested? There had been a lot of press leading up to that, so I don't think at that point I was surprised. Question what was your initial reaction when you first heard about the rumor that she had been or had been arrested? It was quite surreal. Mr. Spector. Question approximately when do you think that you were aware that she was a person of interest of some kind by law enforcement? I assume prior to July 2, 2020, based on your testimony? I believe that as the press escalated, I didn't read a lot of it, but it was kind of unavoidable. So it would have been after the Miami Herald article. I think there was a great article that exposed all of it. So I think that was in 2018 or 2019, and then things escalated after that. Question so just to be clear, your knowledge of the crime she was at the time alleged to have committed came from the media reports and not from any firsthand knowledge? Answer that's correct. Question it came from media reports. Answer from the media. Question by Ms. Cathay, did you discuss the allegations with Ms. Maxwell at any point? Answer no. Question did you have any contact with Ms. Maxwell in the years the investigation was ongoing? Answer no. Question did you have any contact with her after she was arrested? Answer no. Question did you assist her in any way in the criminal investigation against her? Answer not that I know of. Question by Mr. Spector, did you have any conversation with President Clinton about the crimes, about the fact that Ms. Maxwell was under suspicion of these crimes? Answer not that I know of. I don't recall any specific discussion with him about that. Question do any conversations in general jump out to you that you had with other people that that knew Ms. Maxwell at the time? Answer could you be more clear? Question yeah. President Clinton is a notable figure that knew Ghislaine Maxwell. Answer no. Question do you have any suspicions based on your time dating her that would have led you to believe the investigation was warranted? Answer Nothing that I can really recall. There were things around Mr. Epstein and she always denied any direct involvement in any of those issues. So you know, There was this 2008 conviction which we discussed and she denied having any involvement with that. Question how many times did you talk about that with her? Let me rephrase. Did you have multiple discussions with Ms. Maxwell where she over and over denied that she was involved? I don't recall having multiple discussions. Question so you believed her when she said she wasn't involved? I had no reason not to. Ms. Cathay. I think that's a good stopping point. We'll go off the record for this first hour. Thank you. I'll be doing the majority of questioning for the minority today. We appreciate you coming in. We appreciate your time. As you know, today's conversation will focus on your relationship with primarily Glenn Maxwell as well as some questions about Jeffrey Epstein. Some of the questions we ask might be a little repetitive, but I'm going to do my best to keep that to a bare minimum. So that's what I'll strive for. Just had two quick follow up questions on content in previous round. One with respect to the dinner in Hong Kong with where you first met Ms. Maxwell, just for clarification, you were not on that trip that President Clinton was on, is that right? No, I was not on that trip. Question Were you already in Hong Kong? Yes. Business or something like that? I was there on business. I saw the newspaper that President Clinton was in town. I understand. As you know, when you arrived at the dinner, as far as you can remember, did you have any knowledge of who Mr. Epstein was? Ms. Maxwell were answer no. Question One other question, with respect to the meeting, you described kind of one more substantive meeting with Mr. Epstein that was a little odd. I just might not have heard it. But was there an approximate date for that meeting? Early 2004. Question. And that meeting that Ms. Maxwell's New York home? Yep. Question. Were the three of you the only people present at the meeting? She was not present at the meeting. Oh, just the two of you? Just the two of us. Got it. Okay. I think you had said, but is that the only time that you ever had a one on one with just the two of you? Yes. You touched on in the previous round. Could you try from 30,000ft to just describe the general arc of your relationship with Ms. Maxwell? I know when it started, I know when it ended. Did it sort of get gradually more serious before it tapered off? How do you view, in summary, the relationship, I mean, in summary, it was, like I said, started in 2004, ended in 2010. I'm trying to figure out exactly what you're looking for. Well, you know, you talked about at a point of the separation, not having perceived a realistic probability of marriage. Yeah. Was that always your perception or was there a point halfway through when you thought maybe this is heading for marriage? How did that unfold? Yeah, Again, from the beginning of the relationship, I was very clear that I was not going to marry her. I was going through a divorce. I wasn't looking to get married at any time soon. I had four children. That was my big priority. I would say that the relationship was kind of, I don't want to call it on and off again because I was with my kids a lot of the time. So every other week I had them full custody, and then she would be off doing her thing. Question. And when you first met, when you first started dating Ms. Maxwell, let's say, your understanding of her relationship with Mr. Epstein certainly is that they were no longer romantically connected. Is that correct? Yes. Question. And you understood she worked for Mr. Epstein? Answer. Yes. Question. And that was your understanding? I think you touched on it.
