Hey, hey, hey. It's that time again. Time to learn what all the cool girls that's you will be wearing this season. If you want to update your spring wardrobe to look current but still age and lifestyle appropriate, I'm here to help. Let's get started. Hello gorgeous. Welcome back to the Everyday Style School, the podcast that gives real life style advice to real life women. I'm your host, Jennifer Mackie Mary. I'm a wardrobe stylist who's been dressing everyday Women for over 25 years and I'm the founder of Everyday Style, where we're on a mission to inspire women to love the way they look and give you the tools to make getting dressed easy, my friends. Here we are again. Another new season and more new trends. Spring is always one of the best big seasons when it comes to trends along with fall, and there is so much out there that I could not narrow it down to just 10. So technically this is 11 wearable trends for spring 2025. I figured you wouldn't mind a bonus, but even with that, there is so much that I don't have time to cover. If you're a Style Circle member, I'm sharing five more trends with you in the extra credit podcast that is our member exclusive show. And this season I'm sharing five specific on trend items that I'm adding to my wardrobe this season. That episode is out right now, so if you're a member, go check it out. But in this episode, I'm sharing 10 trends from the runways that can apply to your everyday life. As always, I try to choose the most wearable trends and I try to cover things that I haven't talked about recently, either last season or even last year. And the truth is, a lot of the trends that I shared last spring are still going strong. So if you'd like, you can go back and check out that episode. I'll have it linked in the show notes. But I'd also recommend checking out fall and winter because some of what I'm mentioning today is holdovers from that as well. Also in the show notes on our website, I've got links and examples for all the trends that we're talking about today. So head over there, check them out, see what they look like, and maybe do a little wardrobe updating since I have done all the hard work of shopping for you. And if you want to see how to work the trends into your existing wardrobe, the Spring Capsule Wardrobe Guide is coming out March 13th. And just like every season, we show really practical ways to update your wardrobe just a little bit at a time, so it's always looking fresh and current without having to do a major overhaul. Each season or even every year. We combine current trends and wardrobe basics that you probably already have to create over 200 outfits that will get you dressed each morning quicker than you can say, ugh, what am I going to wear today? We make it easy. It's absolutely the best way to build a cohesive mix and match wardrobe that saves you time and money without sacrificing style. You can get the Spring 2025 capsule guide inside of the Style Circle membership and you also get that private members only podcast all of our style masterclasses, outfit calendars, the community member style coaching, and lots, lots more. So come join the Style Circle for the Capsule guides and stay for all the style education that you never knew you really needed. Link is in the show notes and I can't wait to meet you in the community. All right, let's talk spring 2025 trends. Just a reminder. As always, this is not a recap of all the trends out there. I like to talk about the ones that are most wearable and all the ones that I haven't talked about before. Also, will all the trends work for you? No. Will you like all of them? Probably not. Take what works for you and leave the rest. But as you've probably heard me say before, don't shut your mind to new things. Sometimes your eyes just need time to adjust to a new silhouette. So never say never. Just say not yet. Or how could I do this in a way that would work for me? That's how you stay current and avoid a style time warp. Okay, with all that said, here are 10 trends from the spring 2025 runways that regular, everyday women can work into their regular everyday lives. Trend number one, let's talk about the colors of the season in general. There are a lot of color trends out there right now. Brown is only getting bigger. So if you haven't hopped on that train yet, what are you waiting for? It's not stopping. Outside of that though, there are sort of two big color stories. The first one is brights. There's a lot of poppy red, coral, bright blue, bright yellow, bright green. You get the idea. But then there are the pastels. And that's what I want to talk about. Specifically powder pink, butter yellow and pistachio green. Now maybe you're thinking Jen pastels for spring. How original. But I don't know. Somehow this season pastels do feel fresh and new, and I think it's partly that we're seeing these softer colors in more elevated silhouettes because the trend continues to be, you know, somewhat more polished and refined. And I don't know that we've really seen the pastels that way in a while. But that doesn't mean that you have to wear a full on pistachio green suit. There are plenty of wearable casual pieces in those colors, from sweatsets and T shirts to blouses and dresses and even accessories, which is always a great way to try a color that you're not sure about. You know, if you've listened to the show before, you know, I love color trends because they're an easy way to make your wardrobe look more current. And colors don't look dated the way some other trends will in a few years. It's just a light pink top, right? It's not like, oh, that is so spring 2025. So I love that about color trends. But a butter yellow sweater on its own, styled like you normally would, doesn't have enough oomph to make your outfit look on trend. To accomplish that, you can do one of two things. First, make a statement with the color either going head to toe like that pistachio suit I mentioned, or like a powder pink sweatsuit, or you can wear it in an unexpected piece to make that statement. Butter yellow trousers with a neutral top makes more of a statement than a butter yellow top with neutral bottoms. A light pink outerwear piece pops more than a light pink tee. So making a statement with the color, that's one way to do it. The other way to make the color look like a trend is to style the piece in a modern on trend way. So instead of just putting a pastel sweater with your basic mid wash straight leg jeans and plain round toe flats, wear your pastel sweater with a pair of barrel leg jeans and mesh flats, for example. The on trend styling gives the color the boost it needs to make it look noticeably current. For trend number two, let's talk about patterns for spring. Trends that are still going strong include animal print and polka dots. So we're not really going to talk about those because we already have. Obviously, for spring, it's always stripes and floral stripes and floral stripes are definitely here, but I wouldn't call them a spring trend. I would call them a spring staple. Florals are out there too, but there isn't one major floral type that's dominating. Instead, there's like a smattering of small, dainty florals, some big bold florals, and everything in between. They feel like a good option, but not a trend. It feels like, oh, that's springy. So cool. Florals. But there isn't one thing we can point to and say this, that is the floral of the season. What is feeling like a trend is checks, plaids, and gingham. Now, gingham is always kind of a spring summer staple, right? It's always around when the weather warms up. But checks and plaids feel more like fall and winter patterns, so they do feel a little fresher and discussion worthy. For checks and plaids to feel like a spring trend, they need to be in springier colors and silhouettes and fabrics. So leave your dark flannel button up hanging in the closet and look for short sleeve blouses and light colored plaids and springy dresses, lightweight fabrics, that kind of thing. Avoid any plaid that has a dark base color like black or brown or burgundy. Even if they have light colors mixed in, it's that base color that will make it read kind of wintry. When it comes to gingham, I'm sure lots of you have the classic J. Crew factory gingham button front shirt. We've put it in capsules galore over the years. So I know you know the one. I'm not saying that looks dated because I think it's, it's a classic piece, but I think it's kind of like the color trends. If you want it to read as a trend, try gingham. In a more unexpected piece, I saw gingham ribbon shoelaces that looked really fresh and new and what an easy way to update your wardrobe, right? So don't stop wearing your gingham shirt this season. But if you want to look on trend, try a slightly trendier piece or something that's a little bit more unexpected. Something that's really going to pop trend number three. Let's talk about some denim trends for spring 2025. There are lots of trends in the denim space, but I just want to highlight a few. First, the barrel leg jean, my friends, is still going strong. And I know I said I wasn't going to cover trends that I've already talked about, but I wanted to mention it because recently we've had quite a few Style Circle members try barrel leg jeans for the first time. And these women are all over the age and body shape spectrum and they're all loving them. They've all said that they were afraid to try them, but then they just, they just gave it a shot and now they're hooked. And I wanted to mention this because it's an example of waiting to try a trend for a long time, almost to the point of it not being a trend anymore. Now, after a trend is over, it either moves to being a staple mainstream piece. This is like what happened to skinny jeans. Or it just kind of falls off the radar and people just don't wear them anymore. And I don't know which direction barrel legs will go. I wish I had that knowledge. I'd make a fortune, but I don't. But what I wanted to point out is that I often hear from women that they don't want to add trends to their wardrobe because they're popular one minute and gone the next, and then they've wasted their money. But I've been talking about bare leg jeans for a couple of years now. So this idea that trends move super quickly just isn't true. It's more about when you jump into a trend. And if you want to get more longevity out of your trendy pieces, try them earlier in their life cycle. Barrel legs are showing no sign of going away. So just try. Just put them on your body and see. See what you think. Okay, I know I mentioned skinny jeans. And speaking of skinny jeans, if you have refused to give up your skinnies and you are hanging on like your life depends on it, I got something you might like. Skinny jeans are back, baby. But let me clarify. These are not actual skinny jeans. These are skinny, er jeans. Right? We always think about the er. We are not going back to the high stretch, tight from waist to ankle styles of the 2000 and tens. What is modern and on trend right now is a slim straight jean or even a cigarette jean. Both of those will give you the narrower leg silhouette that skinnies do without being so skinny that they look dated. Another denim Trend for Spring 2025 is jeans with front seams. If you are someone like me who wishes her legs were longer, these are fabulous. That long vertical line will help elongate your legs. And I just think they look fresh and fun. They're a little bit different beyond basic denim. Like, this is still having a moment. We're seeing lots of embroidery and contrasting hems or side seams, lots of things like that. And I want to encourage you, if you are a woman who lives in jeans, and I know a lot of you do, to add some interest and fun to your wardrobe with beyond basic denim styles. They're just as easy as throwing on your classic plain pair of jeans. But you're going to look modern, you're going to look updated. You might not wear them forever. These probably aren't going to be investment jeans, but it's a really easy way to update your wardrobe while staying true to your style. The next two trends I want to talk about are sort of overarching aesthetics rather than specific pieces. We're talking about things like coastal grandmother or mob wives, which are a couple of aesthetics we've seen in recent years. I like these esthetic trends because it's about putting a whole look together, which is the key to looking current and on trend. The first one, trend number four, is fishermancore. This is obviously maritime inspired, but it's different than the nautical aesthetic that we're used to seeing in the spring. The biggest difference between the two is that nautical leans toward preppy, a little bit like crisp shirts, navy, lots of stripes, that kind of thing. And fisherman core is a little bit more earthy, a little bit more rugged, a little bit more casual. Not quite as polished. This aesthetic is marked by Breton stripes, relaxed denim, relaxed khakis, fisherman sandals and boat shoes, fisherman sweaters, beanies, and of course, the raincoat. And I'm not talking about a classic elevated trench coat, which I love. This is a raincoat with a hood, maybe in bright yellow or a navy. The colors of this aesthetic are olive, navy, tan, ivory putty, and brown. Very practical and earthy again with pops of yellow and maybe even some red. On the runways, designers were showing a lot of themed accessories to go with this one, like fish earrings and fishing net type handbags. I think that's veering into costume territory, but if you like it, you do you. Or you could just do fish earrings with, you know, whatever else you're wearing and do a little nod to the trend that way. I don't have much else to say about this trend. I think it's super cute. I think it's very, very practical for spring, especially for those of us who are still wearing sweaters and jackets through most of the season. And I guess fisherman corps comes down to do you like it or not. When I was researching this episode, one article I came across was titled, do you want to dress like a sexy fisherman? And I guess that's what it comes down to. Friends, if you want to dress like a sexy fisherman, have at it. And you don't even have to be a sexy fisherman. You could just be a regular fisherman. That's fine, too. All right, trend number five is the other trending aesthetic, which I am calling ruffles and romance. But this is kind of the opposite. A 180 from Fisherman Corp. There are a lot of ladylike looks out there for spring 2025. And this is part of that. But instead of being a pretty kind of refined lady jacket, for example, this trend leans a little softer, a little more traditionally feminine, and dare I say, romantic. Ruffles are a huge Trend for spring 2025. They're on sweaters, blouses, dresses, T shirts, skirts, you name it. And a lot of women are leery about ruffles, thinking that they will add bulk. And they absolutely can. They do. But not all ruffles are created equal. The size, the volume, the fabric placement, direction all make a big difference. One thing that I am seeing and loving is blouses with vertical ruffles. And those can do great things for a body. They remind me of my all time favorite blouse, which I had when I worked for Chico's. So we're talking like 2001, 2002, a lifetime ago. It was a V neck blouse that had a ruffle that went around the neckline and then down the center of my body covering the button placket. It always made me feel like a million bucks. And I am really excited to find an updated modern version. And normally I would not be adding bulk to my upper body. So if I can do it, you can do it too. Point being, don't count ruffles out. I guarantee there are some out there that will work for you. The other fabrics in the ruffles and romance aesthetic that are big this season are chiffon, lace and eyelet. I am especially loving some of the lace options that I'm seeing out there right now because they're not as sweet and romantic. There are lots of pieces out there that look modern, refined, even a little bit edgy, which is great if you kind of want to try the trend. But your style isn't super soft and romantic. Something I talked about in my episode on My Style Struggles, which we'll link to in the show notes and then we had a long discussion about in the Style circle member coaching is the need to have a couple of pieces in your wardrobe that aren't just practical. I shared that I struggle sometimes because my whole wardrobe feels workish, because I can wear almost my entire wardrobe either to work or out to dinner, running errands or whatever. I use a lot of my wardrobe and that that's great. But when I want to feel special or out of the ordinary, I don't have anything. I still feel workish, like I could go to the grocery store or, you know, speak on stage. I don't have things that are special. And in the member coaching. We talked about being intentional about putting some of those special not for everyday pieces into your wardrobe. And I think this is a really good trend for that. I might not wear a ruffled blouse or a lace top regularly, but when I do want to feel a little bit special, they'll be really nice to have. Not everything has to be worn three days a week to earn a place in your wardrobe. And that's why I included this next trend as a bit of a bonus. So we'll call it trend 5.5. And that is lingerie details. I know I said this episode is 10 Wearable Trends, and I promise I'm not crazy. Hear me out. I'm not talking about wearing a slip as a dress or going without pants. And why are designers still trying to make the pantsless trend a thing? No, what this trend is more about is things like corset and bustier details or lace trims, that kind of thing. This is trend 5.5 because it does cross over into the romantic aesthetic with things like lace and sheer fabrics. But there are a couple of specific details that I wanted to highlight, which is why it's its own thing. I feel like this trend can be used in a couple of different ways. First, you can really embrace it as part of that not for everyday thing. I just talked about like a lace bodysuit or a corset top under a blazer for a night out. Sort of like Jeff Bezos's wife at the inauguration. Great outfit. Not sure it was the right venue, but whatever. Now, I don't think a lot of our listeners are going to go for that on this one, and that's okay. There's a much more wearable way to do this trend, and that is corset and bustier details on everyday pieces. I'm seeing tons of tops, tees, blouses, dresses with these shape defining details. And I wanted to talk about this one because I feel like it's a great hack for women who often feel boxy in their clothes or who want to emphasize or enhance curves through their midsection. Now, if you don't want to draw attention to your midsection, this isn't great. But I'm going to post examples and links in the show notes of these very wearable pieces. And if you feel boxy, if you put on a blouse and you go, oh, I'm so boxy, I just. I want you to try it. Just trust me. Okay. Moving on to trend number six, which is outerwear for spring 2025. The big trend in this one Is sporty jackets like anoraks and windbreakers. Now, I want to be really clear that if you pull out your old gray Columbia windbreaker from 2012, this is not that. The trending pieces this season have an updated silhouette. We're seeing lots of cropped and boxy and popover styles out there. Or they have an interesting colorway, sort of like a retro track jacket. On the runways, these jackets were shown in a very non traditional way. This and I don't know if you know the wrong shoe theory, but basically it says to make your outfit look more high fashion, wear the wrong shoe. So if I'm in leggings and a sweatshirt, for example, to make it look more high fashion, I should wear heels. That would be the wrong shoe. If I'm in a floaty chiffon maxi dress, I should wear sneakers or Doc Martens. That's the wrong shoe. That's the theory. On the Runway for jackets, it was all about the wrong jacket theory. So it was a popover windbreaker over black trousers and a dress shirt or a color block jacket over a very feminine dress. If you live in a very fashionable place and you are by nature a very fashionable person, have at it. Try it. This is fun. Wear the wrong jacket all day long, but most everyday women will look a little bit off doing this. You can give it a try. You can experiment, but to make this one work, you kind of have to have elements that are drastically different. A jersey wrap dress that you wear to work and a traditional windbreaker aren't different enough for this to work. A ruffled chiffon maxi dress actually works better. The work dress just looks like you don't have a dressy enough jacket. The chiffon maxi looks more intentional. So try it. But proceed with caution. On the wrong jacket thing, you can always just wear the right jacket, and that will look fine too, I promise. The last four trends are accessories, which are always an easy way to inject a little trendiness into your wardrobe. Trend number seven is shoes, and I'm excited about this one because wedges are back. Wedges are so wearable. They're more comfortable than heels, and they are always fabulous for spring and summer. And I am here for this one. On the runways, it was all about sculptural wedges. The actual heel part had an interesting shape to it, and we're starting to see more of those hit stores. From the time I started researching trends to the time I'm recording this episode, there are so many more options, which I think will just increase as the weather gets warmer. Again, if you want to look trendy with this one, you have to make sure the whole shoe looks current. I'm not saying the heel has to be funky and different, but does the toe shape look current, for example? And the best way to know is to head to the website of a store that embodies the style you want to have, then look at the shoes they're selling. This works better on stores like Anthropologie or Talbots than a site like DSW or Nordstrom where they're selling a whole lot of stuff. If you're going to go the big box or department store route, look at brands you admire. Okay, trend number eight is a jewelry trend and that is stacked bangles. We have been seeing bracelet stacks again for a while, a couple years now, and this is just a little switch from the stretchy or chain style bracelets we've been doing to a more polished kind of sculptured look. For me, bangle bracelets get in the way when I'm working on the computer and I tend to take them off and just leave like little piles of jewelry all around. But a good fix for this is to wear cuff bracelets that give you the same shape kind of from the outside, but they're not as obtrusive when you're working. Also, lots of brands are making rectangular bangle bracelets that are a little bit more wearable. They're not just constantly banging around. Another good idea for this one is to update your watch band to a bangle style so you've got the trend built in every single day. And I will post the one in the show notes that I got. Mixing metals is also a big Trend for spring 2025. So layer your necklaces and stack your bangles in both gold and silver. Trend number nine is belts. We've been talking about belts for quite some time, at least a year, but this season is all about the statement belt. This could be a wide waist defining belt or a wrap belt style, but it can even be as simple as adding a little bit more flavor to the belts you're wearing with your jeans and your trousers. Just add color, texture, embellishment or an interesting buckle. But my friends, we're going to leave the little GG belt or the knockoff interlocking circle belt in the closet. That one has had its moment. If you want to splurge on a statement belt, check out the Chloe iconic belt. That's more in line with what we are talking about. All right, last one. Trend number 10 is handbags and today I'm going to talk about one that has been gaining momentum for a few seasons, but it was all over the runways for spring 2025, so it's a good time to talk about it, and that is the woven leather bag. I like this trend because whatever kind of bag you like best, you can find it in a woven leather. It doesn't matter if you like shoulder bags or crossbody bags, big bags, little bags, whatever kind of bags, they are all out there in woven leather, which makes this an extremely wearable trend. Some other handbag trends worth mentioning include big bags, little bags, they're done. I'm so happy. Top handles, satchel or doctor bags and belted bags. Kind of like the Birkin that everyone is going crazy for this season. This is a really easy way to do a two fur trend. You can do a woven leather bag with a top handle or a woven leather belted bag. There are so many ways to pack two trends into just one bag item. All right, there you have it friends. 10 wearable trends for spring 2025. I hope this episode has given you some insight into what's big for the season and some practical tips for working them into your everyday wardrobe. As always, like I said, take what works for you. Leave the rest. The most important thing is that you have fun with style and feel great in whatever you wear.
