Welcome to the how to Podcast series. It's November, and it's National Podcast Post Month. What we're doing here is we're going to do an episode a day, every day for the month of November on the how to Podcast series. And instead of being a bunch of Dave for 30 days in a row, how about a bunch of my best friends and podcast family from the how to Podcast series coming back, reuniting? It's like a family reunion, everyone. And over the next 30 days, you're going to hear from some of the best podcasters in the world. So excited to have them return and share their insights to three questions that you, as a podcaster should consider. You get their combined experiences over 30 episodes to help you plan your podcast, grow your show, launch a show, continue as a podcaster. We're all here for you. And so here are some of your best friends returning again to share their insight, their wisdom. These spectacular people are here for you. I'm so proud to have them back to hear their voices again. Makes me happy. So let's get going. Happy National Podcast Post Month. Here we go. So, yeah, this is Dave. Hi. I'm the host of the how to Podcast series, and I'm here on my own show answering the three questions. But why, why, Dave? Why are you here on this particular day? Well, today is actually my birthday, so where better to hang out on my birthday with. With them, with my best friends here on the how to Podcast series, to hang out with you as a listener. And I get to be here with you, so that makes me happy. And happy birthday to me. I'm old, but I'm happy to be here. So I want to answer my own three questions and join in with the amazing voices of people who have been here on the show answering their own this question themselves. I just. I wanted to be part of the group, you know, like when you're at school and there's that table of all the cool kids and they're all having their lunch, and you look at your lunch tray and go, ugh, same thing as last time. Mystery meet. I want to go sit with the cool kids at the table and talk podcasting and be a part of this. So here I am. I'm doing it. All right. Okay. So again, three questions for the month of November here on the National Podcast Post Month. Not pod pomo for the friends at home keeping score. And let's do these three questions and I'll give you my answers already. Number one, what strategies do you recommend for identifying and engaging with your audience. For me, as a podcaster with eight different shows, I like to leverage tools like Speak Pipe. You've heard me talk about that many times. I use my Buy me a coffee where people can donate to the show. I consider those two items the tag team duo that helps people to communicate and connect with a podcaster. And it's a sign of connection, it's a sign of gratitude, it's a sign of engagement to hear a voice message and for someone to buy you and donate to the show by buying you a coffee through the Buy me a coffee link in the show notes, if you're so inclined, for my birthday. I like birthday coffees. I do anyway. I love using these as ways to identify the audience and engage with your audience. And if you listen back in the episodes we had Kevin Palmieri on in the past, Kevin talked about the fact that you need a way for your audience to self identify, to raise their hand and go, I listen to your show. You need some way of getting them to do that. So whether that's a Facebook group, Instagram email newsletter, buy me a coffee Speak Pipe, you need some way for your audience to put their hand up and say, I listen to your show. So pick something that works for you. Try a bunch of different things. Don't be afraid, but try something and see what happens and see if it gets you the engagement you're hoping for. So that was my strategy for identifying, engaging with my audience. Number two, can I describe a challenge that you have faced recently in your podcast journey and how you overcame it? So for me, I think the challenge I'm ongoingly, ongoingly, ongoingly doing in the moment is keeping track of emails, keeping track of connections, getting out communication to my guests around episode releases. With this many episodes that I do, this month of November alone, there's 90 episodes going out across three podcasts. There's a lot of content, there's a lot of things happening for a team of one myself to do without having a great community around me to support me and all of that, I have to do this myself. So I'm learning how to do all these things. At the same time, I am struggling a little bit to keep up with everything as I work full time as well. But for me, I just think that anytime that I can do something that makes it easier for me to stay in touch with an audience member and a guest and my community, everyone benefits. So for me, I'm leveraging any type of automation I can. I just had an author on recently that said she loved the fact that I was so organized as a host. She got a text reminder of our meeting ahead of time, an email reminder as well. All this set up through my calendly. I don't even think about it anymore. But my guests are getting these reminders that you're meeting with Dave and two days, you're meeting with Dave in 30 minutes. And it's a nice connection piece and she really appreciated that as her. She's busy as a guest as well. So whatever you can do to overcome the challenges of staying on top of your podcast, leverage tools, research them. If you want help with that, reach out to me. I'd love to help you with that. And then the last question of the three questions is, what tools or resources do you find indispensable for your podcast? Poor planning, production, or promotion. So for me, one of the main things is my microphone. I just think that more podcasters who don't use a mic should possibly think about using a mic in the future. The mic I'm using right now is $50American, but $80 Canadian on Amazon. It's really straightforward. It's very cheap, but it has served me for thousands of episodes, countless zoom meetings and and pre chats and coaching calls, and all of that client work. It's just been this thing that's been here as a constant for me. So invest in good equipment that you trust. And I guess for me, I would say Audacity is my recording platform of choice. It's free, it doesn't cost me anything. I use it all the time. I've never had issues with it, despite what people say about it. It is a workhorse and it is something that you could use today. You don't have to be connected to the Internet to use Audacity. You can record it without any connection to the Internet, which I love. And you can do all the editing right here on your screen, like I'm doing right now. I'm using it right now to record this, leverage the tools that work for you. And if you want a full list of all the tools that I use, go to podcastforfree.com podcast for F O R Free. Yes, you can podcast for free, everyone. Podcastforfree.com has a list of all of the free tools that I'm using. I update the list all the time as new tools become available. You'll see what I use right now and podcastforfree.com will give you that list again. Happy National Podcast Podcast Post Month, everyone. I'm so happy you're here. I'm so happy you're podcasting and whether you're able to participate this year or not, make plans for next year. I'd love for you to have 30 episodes in a row in the month of November to get them out to your community as this nice blast of content. Make it good content. Make it something meaningful for your audience. Make it for them, not for you. This whole idea of this National Podcast Post Month is not for you to grow your audience, but for you to give to your audience and grow them as a listener and not just grow your numbers of listeners. Let's give back this month and support each other. And for those that are not participating in National Podcast Post Month, support the podcasters who are. You're doing it right now with me and I appreciate that. But do it for others as well. Listen to these shows. Search up the hashtag NA pod pomo N A P O D P O M O NAPOD pomo Yeah, I did it right. And go search out these shows and support them as well as we do something ambitious doing 30 episodes episodes in a row. It's a lot to say. My mouth is tripping over it as I say it. But thank you for being here. Thank you for being part of the podcast. Thank you for supporting the amazing podcasters who have responded this month to be a part of this series of 30 episodes in a row. They're amazing. Go check out all their shows. Give them a lot of love. Thank you for being part of the How To Podcast family. If I can help you in any way in your podcast journey, I would love to do so. HowToPodcast CA.
