You could create a great product with a great packaging and a great messaging. We eliminate all of that and just paint the story looking at all of the KPIs. And that's what like, you know, all the general partners and managing directors get it on a monthly basis so that they can look at business to business across countries, across like, you know, across different strategic pillars that we have to see what it means. Right. So that's what I would say from a KPI standpoint. But.

Welcome to the Investor, a podcast where I, Joel Palithotinkle, your host, dives deep into the minds of the world's most influential institutional investors. In each episode, we sit down with an investor to hear about their journeys and how global markets are driving capital allocation. So join us on this journey as we explore these insights. I know you've been really busy, so thank you for making time for us and you know, excited to hear a little more about your journey into, into vc. And then also specifically thinking about VC from a data driven perspective is super important because that's like the new gold, right. When you look at, you know, investing, you know, one thing that I've been saying a lot is the private markets are converging with the public markets. Right. So a lot of the, the back testing the, the historical data that we use to train models, I feel that that's going to translate to the private markets as well. And we're already seeing that because there's crossover funds. Right?
A (1:34)
Yeah, sure.
B (1:35)
So excited to go really deep on that. But before we go deeper, why don't we learn a little more about you and your career? Yeah, you have an interesting background. It looks like you have a little bit of analytics and technology in your background too. So walk us through what you studied in college, where you grew up and how you evolved into the venture space for sure.

First of all, thank you for having me on your channel. Really excited to talk about how we use data and analytics in the corporate venture capital world, which is very. Not many people think of a group dedicated for data and analytics. I've been in the country for about, I think close to 12, 13 years. Before that I was in India where like any typical like Indian person, like I did the engineering, I did my undergrad in electrical engineering and then went on to do, doing like for a couple of years, worked as a programmer analyst for a service oriented company. And then at that point of time I was, I knew that was not what I wanted to do. I wanted to be more on the business side or more, more a product Manager. So which drove me to essentially pursue mba. So I came here to New York. I studied in upstate New York and Rochester. And then while I was, it was during the subprime market, right like 2009 when like, you know, it was hardly difficult to find an internship, let alone a full time job. Thankfully I landed in an internship at Abaya which is a telecom company in the Demand Generation team. And at that point of time I was really like, okay, let's just see what it is. You know, if I don't like, you know, if what is the worst that can happen, you know, I might not like this internship and then I can go back home and like do something else. But thankfully that internship was, was very defining of my career because that's where I got to play with a lot of data, you know, how to predict like, you know, leap scoring for a B2B funnel, B2B sales cycle. And even within a span of like three, four months, I really was interested in analytics and the use of data in the use of data and technology in the world. Right. And then that led to me taking up my full time role with a lot of marketing analytics agencies. Worked across a lot of different industries. Hospitality and gm. Grand was one Starwood, a lot of retail platforms, logistics and healthcare. And most recently I was working with a big advertising agency called Ogilvy and Mathew. While I was at Ogilvy is when I came across ZX Ventures. And at that point of time I've always had wanted to explore the entrepreneurial side but for some reason never dabbled with it much. So when I got this offer at zx, my whole thing was like, how can I bridge something that I'm passionate about, like work in the startup but work with multiple different incubations but be in the analytics space. So it was like a unique opportunity of hybrid of things that I really like to do and I wanted to explore. So I was like, this is like a no brainer. I should like, you know, pursue this and like go forward with that. And it has been very rewarding and challenging and interesting at the same time.
