One thing you just said, I have never heard anyone say this before and I'm having this big aha over it right now. You have to allow yourself to feel, to then fill your intuition.
B
Yes.

When's the last time you marveled at your own amazingness, at how you're living, breathing, miracle in motion? When's the last time you celebrated with awe and wonder? How your body is operating millions of micro processes right now to keep you alive, how your mind can imagine up worlds and how your intuition has immense inner wisdom just waiting to be fully tapped into. Today we're talking about how to shatter your limiting beliefs, awaken your intuition, own your power, and tap into your own amazingness. With Jill Winterstein, known to millions of people online and around the world as Spirit Daughter. So many of us are really held back and stunted by limiting beliefs. We're stunted by them. We convince ourselves that they're true. They hold us back. So how do we shatter limiting beliefs?
B
Step one is we have so many thoughts all day long that are just running on default and we're not even consciously aware of them. And they pop up and they come come from our inner critic and they come from that part of ourselves that says we can't do this or this isn't for people like me, or I didn't grow up with this or that, or I don't have the credentials for this, the good enough piece which like plagues so many of us, then you get to do the work of changing them and eventually retrain my brain to know that I want to choose this other narrative for myself.

A
I'm so happy you're here. Also, we met and just had this great conversation. I learned about your new book, Spirit Daughter, which I know is much anticipated by millions of other people and I so grateful to read an early copy of it right off the top. Can you talk about why you wrote this and why there is so much anticipation about this book for the person who's maybe tuning in right now and learning about you for the first time, share a little bit about your story, this book and then we are going to dive into shattering, limiting beliefs and all kinds of exciting things I can't wait to talk about.
B
Okay. So I wrote this book. I really wanted people to know my story. And so it's part memoir, it's part of self help, prescriptive. But it's a lot of memoirs, a lot of my journey. And I just felt that there was this gap between my online Persona. People know me as Spirit Daughter. They see this beautiful curated Instagram feed, beautiful life. And I wanted people to really know the truth, the real raw, messy journey of how I got to be spirit daughter. And so for people who are in their own messy journey, I want them to feel inspired when they read this book to say, okay, like this. If Jill did this with her life, I can do this too. And so it just felt like a really good moment and a calling to kind of close that gap between what people know about me and see about me, that kind of like polished version and, you know, my journey and be inspired by it. I wanted to share the during, not just the after.
A
Yeah, I think that's really powerful. I think, you know, now online, so many people just see sort of the person on the pedestal, especially in different worlds of whether it's faith or spirituality or manifestation or different thought leaders of all types. And it can almost seem like unattainable or, or maybe not as relatable. Maybe it's still aspirational, but not quite as relatable. And I was saying to you when we were walking here together is that it's, I think, so much more powerful that you share the human part, like the human journey you've gone through to get to where you're at now. Because I think that's how so many people will connect to that and be like, oh, and then they'll see parts of themselves. Because I think a lot of us, you know, we. We think that, oh, spiritual enlightenment can only happen to other people. But we're. We've made too many mistakes or we have too much self doubt or we have failed too many times. And I think, I think the beauty is in that journey. And so we. Were you scared at all or feel vulnerable at all sharing some of the things you shared? Cause you share them. You share em, I share em.
B
I share everything. And yes, it was very, very vulnerable to write the book in the first place. To have some of the first people. My editor read it. I think when I first sent into her, I just crawled in bed and hid all day. I had that feeling of nobody look at me. And then those moments of like, I can't believe I'm sharing this with this many people. And still it felt like the right thing to do. And still it was just like, yes, I need, I need to do this. I need to go forward with this vulnerability and really reach for what I feel is my potential as a leader in my space by sharing who I am and sharing my journey.
A
For the person just meeting you right now for the first time, we're going to dive into shattering our limiting beliefs. And in a moment, but for the person meeting you for the first time, what would you love for them to know about you?
B
Well, I'm a mom. I feel like I always like, to lead with that, because no matter what is going on in my life, a book launch or podcast or anything else, like, I'm. I'm a mom first, always. I'm a Leo, so I'm here to. Leos are all about leading through vulnerability. So a lot of my. My journey, and even with this book, I've kind of leaned on that knowledge of, like, wow. Like, this is how I lead through this vulnerability, through this openness, through this portal where everybody can see into me, and that will actually just make me stronger of a leader. And then I'm also the founder and owner of Spirit Daughter, where we, you know, we have an online platform, we have workbooks, we have tools. I really started Spirit Daughter as a way to give people tools to inspire them to show up for themselves, to commit to their own journey, and to ultimately grow to trust themselves, trust their intuition, and really own their power. And in a lot of ways, I feel like my journey, Spirit Daughter has been to bring this book to the world. And I even talk about that in the end of the book that, you know, I wanted to write this book before I even thought of Spirit Daughter. I thought of this book first.
A
Wow. Well, so many of us are. Are really held back and so stunted by limiting beliefs. We're stunted by them. We convince ourselves that they're true. They hold us back. So how do we shatter limiting beliefs?
B
Step one is awareness. And so we can't change anything until we're aware of it. And we have so many thoughts all day long that are just running on default and we're not even consciously aware of them. And they pop up, and they come from our inner critic, and they come from that part of ourselves that says, we can't do this, or this isn't for people like me, or I didn't grow up with this or that, or I don't have the credentials for this. And so it really begins with becoming aware of those thoughts, making those unconscious thoughts conscious. And so that takes some time. That takes a commitment to say, okay, I'm going to catch myself when I am, you know, in the middle of my day and I'm answering an email or some opportunity comes my way, or I'm doing the dishes and I. And I'm going to catch that repeating thought, whatever that might be. Oh, I can't do this. Oh, I don't look good enough. Oh, you know, I'm not. This, that, or the other thing, you know, the good enough piece, which it, like, plagues so many of us. You know, I don't have what it takes. So catching those thoughts and making that a diligent practice and writing them down, right, that's step one. And as ugly as they are, as horrible as they are, because we say things to ourselves we would never in a million years say to anyone else ever. And it's, it's just mind blowing. I almost, I wish there was a device that could record all of our thoughts, even just for a day for us, so we could look back and read them and we would be shocked. And so step one is just simple awareness and writing it down. And then you get to do the work of changing them. Then you get to say, okay, when I have this thought, I'm going to create this counter thought, this counter mantra, this counter affirmation and see, say that and eventually retrain my brain to know that I want to choose this other narrative for myself. That I'm not going to be defined by this old story, this old negative self talk, these old patterns on repeat. But awareness is key.
A
So awareness, write it down, write it down, write them down. You don't have to show anybody, just write it down. Which I'm just, it's funny when you're saying that I'm thinking of all the thoughts I've already had this morning, but if I wrote those down, I would not want to read that paper about myself. Because you're right, we just, all day long, right, they just come up and then you're saying once you're aware of them, then you create a counter thought which is like, okay, you know, when I have that thought of oh, I'm not smart enough or not that whatever it might be, not this enough that enough whatever it might be, what's that? Counter thought.
B
Yeah, right.
A
That you probably know in your soul is true. And then when you think that negative one, you're going to like literally catch yourself, replace it.
B
Yep. Yeah. And it takes time. It's a commitment. All of these practices really change the way we think about ourselves because that's where it all starts to change our lives. We need to change how we're showing up for ourselves. Our commitments to our practices that are ultimately going to change our behavior and what we think is possible. It starts with saying, okay, I'm going to do this, I'm going to do this for 30 days, I'm going to do this for 20 days. And that's why I love working with astrology and like the lunar cycles, because we have this perfect 30 day container, you can say on a new moon, I'm going To start doing this. It's the new moon. I'm going to do this until the next new moon. And then you kind of know there's an end in sight. Because it can be hard to commit to a practice indefinitely. Ultimately, when we realize it works and we get that positive reinforcement that like, oh, this is working, I'm starting to say less negative things to myself, or I'm starting to believe things are possible, and then that belief is opening up opportunities. I'm able to expand my filter and see things around me instead of closing off from the world. Then we just naturally continue. But I find that it really starts as very helpful to say, okay, I'm gonna do this for 30 days so
A
it doesn't feel like impossible. Like, okay, I'm committed. Yeah, yeah. Small steps, small steps. I'm gonna ask you. You know, I love, I love my community that listens to this show. And I love when they write in and ask questions and, and sometimes I'm like, oh, I wish I asked that. And also sometimes I realize, you know, we all have, we all come from different walks of life. And, you know, I have people listening right now that are super into astrology and into, you know, manifesting and this. I have people listening that are really into faith and they've never even read a horoscope. Right. I've had people, I mean, it's, it's all different types of people, and I love that. And so one of the things I'm going to dive into in a little bit with you is really the basics of a natal, natal chart and a lunar cycle and astrology and, and, and, and can you practice, can you grab helpful bits from it if you also practice a different faith and just all of that? So I'm excited to dive in. For anyone who's really curious about this and has questions, I think I have a lot of good one for you because I think it's fascinating and, you know, if God created the entire universe, including lunar cycles. I'm so curious from different perspectives on, on what they are. But I want to ask you because I think this is such a powerful theme in your book Spirit Daughter that's out now. Own your Power, Change youe Life. I want to ask you when we seek power, because so many of us do this when we seek power outside of ourselves. And that could look like, oh, if I get this job promotion or this job title or the white picket fence and 3.5 kids, or this goal weight or this person liking me or me being included in this friend group when we seek. When we think we can get power by seeking it outside of ourselves, what happens and why do we always end up feeling unfulfilled when we do that?
B
We seek power. We seek happiness. And so we're like, oh, if I get that white picket fence and I weigh 120 pounds and I drive that car, like, I'm going to. I'm going to feel powerful and I'm going to be happy.
A
Happy, right?
B
So it's like there's that combined effect. And I find that, and I talk about this in the book, because I go through my own journey of losing, like, everything I had. And I had a lot. I had a closet full of Prada and Gucci and all kinds of diamonds and all things, and I basically lost most of it or put it in storage for a very long time. And I don't think it's wrong necessarily to want things. And so just stating that. I know a lot of times when we talk about spirituality and talk to spiritual teachers and think of, like, Buddhism, it's all like, oh, you can't want anything. Like, desire is the root of all suffering. I think it's okay to want things. I think it's okay to want to drive a Porsche or want that house with, you know, a white picket fence. What we don't want is our happiness or our empowerment to depend on those things. Meaning if we lost them, we would still have both. So it's okay to want things. It's not okay to be attached to them in the way that if you don't have them, you don't feel empowered and you don't feel happy. Because when we place our power outside of ourselves or our happiness, then the world can take it away. You know, things can happen. We can crash that Porsche. We can, you know, lose the house. Like, so much can happen. And if we're not rooted in ourselves and if we're not saying ourselves, okay, you know what? All of that came from me. All of that power is within me, and I have the power to create all of it. So I have the power to create my own internal happiness. I have the power to create abundance in all forms, including time and love and money. I have all that power. And so then if it is all taken away from me, I still have my power, and nobody can take that away from me. And I have the power to recreate it all again. And I have my happiness so that no matter where I end up, wherever that may be, I'll still be happy, and I'll still feel empowered within who I am.
A
So many people get in this cycle of thinking, once I achieve that next thing, then I'll be happy. Once I achieve the thing after that, you were, you know, in pursuit of your doctorate and just had this feeling that that wasn't it.
B
Right.
A
And can you, can you describe for everyone listening? Because there's a lot of people right now that are like, I'm in this relationship, but I don't know, something's off, or this job or this pursuit of this, or my parents always wanted me to do this, or I always thought if I did this. And can you talk about steps to be able to tune in and go, is this, is this right? Is this in alignment for me? Am I falsely thinking it will bring me happiness? And how do we become fulfilled and happy inside ourselves without any of that stuff?
B
Yeah. So when I was back in, in school for neuroscience, I study neurogenetics and I was doing great, like by all standards. I was like checking all the boxes and I was like, okay, when I get this, when I get that. And I was in that cycle of oh, when I get this fellowship, I'll be happy. Oh, when I get this next degree, I'll be happy. Oh, when I become a tenured professor, I'll be happy. And so I think that's one of the biggest clues that you're not on the path that's meant for you, that your soul really wants to be here. Because I do believe that we need
A

B
And so I think that's one of the biggest clues that you're not on the path that's meant for you, that your soul really wants to be here for. Because I do believe that we all have a purpose, we all have a path, and when we're on it, we know it, and it feels good. We're not waiting for that next thing to happen. We're like, oh, you know what? I'm happy right where I am. I'm still gonna go for that next thing, because that's part of my path. But if I don't get there, that's also okay. And there's a bit of surrender that happens when we're actually on our path. And so we feel it in every part of ourselves, in our entire energy. We're excited to get up for the day. We're motivated. It's not that everything's easy and there's unicorns flying all around. It's just we know this is where we're meant to be, and we're not, like, waiting for that next thing to happen. We actually can be rooted in ourselves and happy with where we are. And so I think that's really important for people who, you know, maybe they're in a relationship. They wake up every day and they're like, what am I doing? But they're afraid to leave for whatever reason. They're afraid that that relationship brings them something they can't bring to themselves. They're afraid that career, with all of its glamour and success marks won't, you know, without it, they won't be happy when. When really that might be the thing that is taking them away from their happiness, that's taking them away from who they really are. And so it's really important to understand who you are and know that it might not make sense to people outside of you. Like, when I left neuroscience, everybody was like, what are you doing? They were like, you just left a fellowship. You just left a stage stipend. Like, everything was paid for. You know, my parents were happy. They were telling all their friends, like, everybody was like, what are you. Like, what are you doing? People thought I was crazy, but I knew that I was not happy. I understood that. And I was young enough. I always say, well, I was, like, 23, so I didn't have kids. I didn't have a mortgage. So I was, like, young enough to be crazy enough to leave and say, you know what? I'm going to give this all up, and I'm Going to find my path. And I had no idea what my path was going to be at that time. I didn't start Spirit Daughter until I was 36. And so from 23 to 36, I had no idea what I was doing in life. Like, none. I just. I trusted that I would figure it out and I would. I trusted that when I found it, it would feel right. It would feel like I would wake up every day and be like, okay, this is what I'm supposed to be doing.
A
Do you feel that way right now?
B
I do. I do. And that's one of the reasons why I wrote the book. And there was definitely moments where I was like, what am I doing? Why am I putting this story out there? And, you know, there are some publishers, when we originally pitched this book that were like, why don't you just write a book on astrology? Just keep it simple, Jill. Just write a book on, like, the sun signs and the lunar cycles. And I was like, no, no, I want to write this book. And so it just. It feels right to me.
A
Yeah, and when you say it feels right, I want to. I want to dive into that. Because one of the most common questions I get asked is, how can I hear my own intuition? And then how can I trust it? So how can we hear our intuition and then how can we trust it?
B
Yeah. It starts with awareness and practice. And like I talk about in the book, intuition is feeling. And so the first part of feeling your intuition is opening up to your emotions. And so we can't just pick and choose which emotions we feel. We have to feel it all. We have to feel the pain, we have to feel the grief, we have to feel the joy, we have to feel the happiness. And so it becomes a practice of really emotional intelligence in a lot of ways, where we need to sit, and sometimes we need to cry, and we need to journal. We need to allow ourselves to open up to all of our emotions. Some of the things we may have been avoiding for years. We need to let them open. And that's the key. That's the key that unlocks the door to your intuition. Because intuition is felt. And I think a lot of people think like, oh, it's in my mind. I'm going to think my intuition. No, it's felt. You feel it in your body. Your body speaks your intuition to you before your mind ever will. Your mind's just catching up and trying to make sense of it all. And so we need to feel, and that's really hard for a lot of people, is to Sit in their emotions and explore them, be open to them, journal, understand them. And so then when you do that, you start all of a sudden feeling your intuition. You get those aha moments. And for me, my intuition shows up in, like, random places, like when I'm walking the dog, like, it's just like, boop, there's an idea, or in the shower, like, boop, there's an idea. And it comes super quick. Your intuition is so, so efficient. I like to tell this to people because we spend so much time in logic and spreadsheets and to do lists and pros and cons lists and all of that. Your intuition is so efficient, it's just like, here's the answer, and then it's up to you to follow it. And that's where it takes courage and usually a leap of faith. And we usually have no idea, no guarantee where it's going to lead us or how it's going to end. And we just have to take one step forward in the direction of our intuition, in the direction of that aha moment that comes on very quickly. We need to catch it and take one step towards it. And. And then I like to tell people to start small and write everything down, like, keep an intuition journal. I followed my intuition today, and this is what happened. Maybe your intuition just told you to go to a coffee shop or to eat something or to wear a particular shirt. Right. A lot of times our intuition shows up when we're even just picking out our coffee. Close. So these small things that don't have large consequences, and then you write them down, and you write down times when you didn't follow your intuition and what happened then. Right. That's the part that always gets people. I find when I'm working with intuition and some people just have so much like, grief over that, where it's like, oh, my intuition told me not to do this and I did it anyway and it was right. And it feels like when you don't follow your intuition, it feels. Feels like an act of betrayal to yourself. And so it's important, though, to write that down and note that and learn that, you know, learn that pattern within you of like, oh, when. When my intuition speaks in this situation, I never follow it. And this is what happens. It's important to become aware of that and that will give you confidence then, as you review that journal over time, to trust your intuition for big decisions like who to date, who to marry, where to move, what career to go into.
A
One thing you just said. I have never heard anyone say this before, and I'm having this big aha over it right now that you have to allow yourself to feel, to then fill your intuition. And so many of us, even those of us who consider ourselves empaths or super intuitive, have habits of numbing out. Scrolling Instagram me this morning eating Nerds Clusters the candy while drinking a Starbucks mocha like double sugar in one moment. Like numbing out to things. But if we're doing that, for some people, it's binging Netflix or whatever it might be. If we are not allowing ourselves to feel, whether it's intentionally or not, how are we going to feel our intuition?
B
Exactly.
A
Huge. That's huge.
B
Yeah.
A
Because I guarantee, because we're all human. As so many of the people that really write in and they're like, jamie, I really am trying to hear my intuition. I'm not hearing, I'm not feeling it. And yet I think now more than ever, with technology at our disposal, social media with everything, it's just so easy to not feel. Also, look what's happening in the world everywhere. So many of us, like don't want to feel.
B
Right. Yeah.
A
And then we're blocked. If we're not feeling all of it, we're not feeling our intuition.
B
Exactly. Exactly. Yeah. You need to open up to all of it. You can't pick and choose your emotions.
A
How do you. Someone who is, you know, advanced and opening up to all of it, how do you protect yourself from being open to the stuff you don't want to, you don't want to take on that, you know, ICE just had a raid or this happened or that, or injustices of the world or whatever's going on that it's just so much.
B
Yeah.
A
How do you. Or in, you know, it's all around us. Whether someone watches the news or not. You go to, to school or the grocery store, you're seeing stuff everywhere. So how do you open? But how do you protect your. Yourself as well?
B
Yeah, that's a great question. It's very layered. And I've done different things throughout my life and I, I'm very empathic. I'm very open to energy. I think we're all empaths, by the way. I think every, everybody listening to this right now. We're all empathic to a certain degree. And I think that there can be times when we need to protect ourselves. And I have certain protection practices that I do. Like I'll encase myself in a white light. You know, I can remember when I was pregnant with my first child. You know, everybody would come up to me and they would tell me their birth story. And I don't know why, but, like,
A
the tough ones, too.
B
Oh, yeah. Like, it was. And I. I mean, I firmly believe that women, you know, can hold space for other women. And I love women's circles. I run women's circles. And I think it can be so healing for women to open up about all. All kinds of things, including their traumatic birth stories. People. When I was pregnant, though, I was like, I don't want to take on this energy. You know, I want to go through this process on my own terms, with my own expectations. And so I had the habit of any woman who approached me, I would just immediately, like, put a white light around myself, and you would just visualize that. Just visualize it. Just visualize it. And then I got really good. And I've always been very hard, very challenged by uncomfortable conversations, but I got really good at setting boundaries and just saying, you know, thank you for sharing this with me. I'm not in the position to hear this right now. I'd love for you to come back to me, you know, after I have this baby and we can share our birth stories together. And so for me, saying something like that is excruciatingly hard. And so really learning to say and state boundaries in a way that respected myself and the other person preserved the relationship. And also with that white light around me. So there's practices that I think we can do. And, you know, some of it might be. I say this with all the practices, like the white light. Some of it's placebo, Like, I'm a researcher at heart, and it's like the placebo effect is the greatest miracle in research, in my opinion, that you can just, like, take this pill that is a sugar and you can get well. Yes. And so maybe the white light is actually really working. Maybe it's just that you have energetically or mentally said to yourself, I am going to protect myself from this person somehow. I'm going to put a shield up right now. I will say, now that I'm older, I do a lot of clearing practices, so I don't prevent the energy from coming in. Instead, I have practices at night that I use that will help clear my energy. And so I might say to myself, wow, I'm feeling this thing right now. Is it mine or is it somebody else's? And a lot of us, half the time, it'll be somebody else's. You might not even know. You might just have an encounter with somebody at the grocery store who's in a bad mood. And you pick up that. That mood from them, and then all of a sudden you're like, wow, why am I so angry? Is this mine or is this somebody else's? Wow, this isn't mine. I'm going to let it go. I'm going to put it down.
A
How do you. What are your clearing practices that you do typically?
B
Well, for my clearing practices, sometimes I'll just take, like, I'll just think about my third eye, and I'll think about some emotion that's with me that's not mine. And I just kind of like. Like clearing the fog.
A
Right?
B
I learned this from a spiritual teacher. And you just clear the fog, and you just clear it off. I mean, I'll also use, like, dried herbs, like sage or palo santo. I also like, just standing in the shower and just, like, again, visualizing kind of light with that water, like, clearing me off. Jumping in the ocean. I live near the ocean, so if I feel really like I can't get an energy off of me, I go jump in the ocean. I love doing that. Also great for your crystals. For people who have crystals and want to cleanse them, just put them in the ocean. So there's different, like, clearing practices that I use, and a lot of it just starts with, is this mine or is this somebody else's? Mm. Mm.
A
You talk about your crystals in your book a lot.
B
Yeah.
A
For crystals, can you. Do you need to clear all of them, by the way? Do you. Can you put them out in the moonlight and they clear. Do they take on energy? How do you know all of this?
B
They. They take on energy, and sometimes you can actually feel it. Like, when you hold a crystal, you'll feel it, like, vibrating. Like, it'll almost feel like it's shaking. And you're like, oh, that one. That one needs some clearing. And so you can put it in the moonlight, you can put it in the ocean. There's certain crystals that never need to be clear. Citrine and kyanite never need to be cleared. So that's why citrine's like, an amazing crystal, because you just. I have citrine all over my house.
A
How do people know it doesn't need to be cleared? Is it, like, measured with frequency or how does that work?
B
I think, yeah, it's, like, measured again. Like, I just feel it. And I think people have just worked with these crystals for so long that, like, citrine, you'll never feel citrine in your hand wanting to jump out of it. And so you Know, that's, that's. These are ancient practices that people have just like observed these stones. It's just like astrology. They just observe the stars for eons
A
and they need to. Is it the ones that absorb things that then need to be cleared? Or do they, can they all absorb things or do some just emit.
B
I think they all absorb things and the citrine like just clears it, goes in and out of it.
A
Out.
B
Got it, yeah. And that's what you want to be like. Like when you're like, I always tell this to healers. Like healers, they want to take on people's energy. They just want to take it on and then know how to. Should roll off of them like water off a duck, you know, the energy. Because that help. That's what makes great healers amazing, is that they can take on people's energy and they can feel that person's going through and they know exactly what they need to be healed. And so that's why I love citrine, because citrine does that.
A
Have you always been into. Well, let me back up for a minute because I want to ask you some of the basics, some of the 101 stuff for people who are either new to it or need a refresher to it. So can you share your favorite, your favorite spiritual practices and healing practices and including for anyone listening at home, why astrology, what astrology does and why you believe in its power? And also lunar cycles, natal charts. All of it. All of it, all of it.
B
Okay. How much time do you have? Okay, so my favorite practices, I would say is just meditation. I, I just, my wish for the world is that everybody meditated even for five minutes a day. And there's no right or wrong meditation. There's no better one. You can listen to a guided meditation, you can do transcendental meditation where you just repeat phrases over and over again. You can count the breath. That's a great meditation. So it can be simple, it can be elaborate. My preferred choice is vipassana. I love vipassana meditation. That's where you do body scans. You just sit and do the body scan. And I love meditation because it gets us into our feeling, it gets us into the sensations of our body, it gets us into our intuition. So if you're still sitting there going, okay, wait, how do I feel my emotions again? Put down the phone and sit and meditate and breathe with yourself. They will come up over time.

So if you're still sitting there going okay, wait, how do I feel my emotions again? Put down the phone and sit and meditate and breathe with yourself. They will come up over time. And so you know, and this is has nothing to do with astrology. You can be into astrology, not into astrology to meditate and you just need even five minutes counts. It's like putting pennies in a jar. Five minutes a day and you're just collecting that and then you get to regulate your nervous system and from there it's like you can figure anything out.
A
I want to say too in your book, one of the things I love when you guys get spirit daughter home and you and you start to read it when we go through your journey of the things you go through, what I love is you'll incorporate in your journey. You'll explain to us when this happened and this was like the, you know, what hit the fan and this and then I'm now box breathing and you explain, you explain your meditation practices and, and, and, and the impact of them through your journey and also how you're handling things and evolving into the person you are today. So I just want to share that too that I love that you sort of bring us into real life situations and how you apply these tools. Okay, keep going. Okay. Meditation.
B
Yeah. Yeah. And people have asked me that about spiritual. They're like, is it a book on astrology? I'm like, it's anything more of a book on meditation and how to do it and how to apply it in Some really crazy situations that I applied it in and used it to keep myself sane, centered and calm and with my emotions. I went through a very emotional time and I could have just ejected, you know, I could have just ran and escaped and done all the things we do to escape from our emotions. And instead I sat, I breathed with it all. And that really helped me ultimately become who I am. And so meditation, everyone just meditate. And then, you know, towards the end of the book, I talk about how I really wanted to start committing to my life again. I always had one foot in, one foot out. And so there was a time in my life I was couch surfing, I didn't want to sign a lease. I was really protecting myself, or I thought I was protecting myself. And I realized that I was actually abandoning myself. I was abandoning who I was and what I really needed by shying away from commitments of any kind. And so, you know, I went from somebody who didn't want to commit to anything to, you know, building spirit daughter. And I did that through harnessing the lunar cycles. And so I started working with the new moon. So the lunar cycle is the cycle that we watch the moon go through every month. So new to first quarter or half moon to full moon to last quarter, another half moon, back to new. And so it's a 29 and a half day cycle. It happens every month. So you can count on it, you can set your watch by it. I think some watches actually have it in there, built in, you know, for the lunar cycle. And so I started saying, okay, on the new moon, I'm going to set some intentions, I'm going to see my future. I'm going to let myself dream because I was so in the moment. And in the moment is great. We want to be present with ourselves. We want to live in the moment. But I was like, couldn't think about anything other than getting through that day. And so I wanted to give myself permission to dream and have a future and say, okay, what do I want my life to be? Do I want kids? Do I want that house of the picket fence? Do I want another partner? My first divorce was so traumatic. Do I want to get married again? And so the new moons gave me that permission to set intentions and to dream. And then every new moon, I check back in with myself. So once a month, it was like accountability partner. And I would say, okay, do I still want this dream? Do I still want to put attention towards the stream? Because ultimately our attention is what manifests everything. And it's like you were talking about everything's trying to distract us and we're scrolling and this and that, and we're giving our attention away. When we put our attention towards our dreams, we can manifest them. And for me, the new moon was my guide in that. The lunar cycles helped me become accountable to myself and helped me dream and helped me return to myself each month and say, okay, what, what is it that I really want? What vision do I want to put my attention towards now?
A
And you know, if you just needed a marker, someone could do the first of the month, the last of the month. So what is it that's special about lunar cycles? Why should someone listening care about them?
B
Well, the new moon is when the sun and the moon are together in the sky. So they're the exact degree in a certain sign. And so that's why we have like the new moon in Aries, the new moon in Taurus. The new moon is always in the sign of the astrological season. So most of us know the astrological season, like if it's Aries season, Taurus season, Gemini season, and the babies who are born during that time become that sun sign, right? So if a baby is born during Aries season, it's an Aries sun sign. And that's where a lot of people kind of stop and they're like, oh, you know, that's what the horoscopes are built off of is the season and the sun sign. So the new moon happens when the sun and the moon are together in the sky in that sign right of the season. So if it's Aries season, we have the Aries new moon. And so this creates this dark moon. We don't see the moon, right? It's completely dark. And so the ancients, when they started practicing with the new moon, it was completely dark. Dark, right. It was before lights. So think about what it would look like outside with no artificial light. On a new moon, it would be pitch dark, except for the stars. And so that was said to be the time to go within, to stay in, right? You wouldn't go out and party, right? You wouldn't gather with your friends, your hunter gatherer friends on a new moon because it was so dark. Maybe you'd do some stargazing, but, you know, so you go within, you stay inside, and then you can hear your intuition more because you don't have distractions because you don't have things going on. You're inside, you're maybe alone, maybe with your family, and you can go inward to a deeper level. And so on a New Moon, it said that we have the capacity to go inward, that the veil between the conscious and the unconscious drops. And then we can really hear our intuition. We're not distracted by light or gatherings or anything else. And then we can decide, or at least start to have a vision of what it is we really, really want from deep within.
A
And then when it comes to astrology, you know, there's a lot of people that go, how can one twelfth of the population have this exact horoscope and all be the same? And what do you say to someone who thinks that about the power of astrology? What it can do for you. What it can do for you. Right now listening.
B
Yeah. Well, I will say the horoscopes, I don't necessarily read a lot of horoscopes. They're based on your sun sign. And we have a natal chart. So our natal chart is a picture of the sky when we were born. So not just where the sun is. Horoscopes are based usually on your sun sign. So where the sun is, where the moon is, the rising sign, those are your biggest big three. Right? So most people, when they first get into astrology, they learn their big three. The sign that was rising on the horizon when they were born, where the moon was the sun. And then we also have a Venus sign, a Mars sign, a Mercury sign. We have lunar nodes. So it's really complex. It's a very complex picture. And you don't have to know every part, but you just want to know that it's a complex picture of the energy of the universe when you were born. And so when we're born and we have our first breath, we take in that energy of the universe, and that becomes part of who we are. I say part because I always believe in free will, no matter what. So I'm not like a doomsday or astrologer. I'm not like, oh, you're this sign. You have to be like this kind of thing. I believe we have free will. I like to look at the chart and why I think it is beneficial for anybody as a framework of evolution. So you can look at that and you can say, like I said in the beginning, I'm a Leo sun. Leo suns are here on this lifetime to embrace and understand vulnerability. So it's not that I know everything about leos already. It's not that I come into this world having mastered the energy or the themes of that sign. I can say, oh, I'm a Leo. And I have this opportunity to reach my potential through a very vulnerable, visible. Right. LEOs are like one of the most visible of the astrological signs, you know, situation. And so I'm going to go for it. I'm going to say, all right, I'm going to believe in astrology that this is part of my evolution, part of my growth, and I'm going to embrace this vulnerability and lean on my LEO side. So I like to look at our astrology, or natal chart, as a pathway for evolution for our lifetime.
A
A natal chart. Is it down to, like, is every person's individual natal chart down to the day, the year, the location, the time, like the exact time of day, down to the minute they were born and they would have theirs. And so, you know, if I was researching this earlier and saw like, on average, like 260 people are born every minute in the world, so would that mean that 260 people have that energy of that exact minute, of that exact minute that they're taking on, and then they combine that with genetics plus free will, and it sort of becomes who
B
they are to a certain degree, because they're going to be in a different location. And so dependent on which hemisphere you're in, your location, that's going to change your rising sign, which your rising sign starts your entire chart. So they might all have the same sun sign, moon sign, Venus sign, all the planets, same lunar nodes, but they might exist in different houses. And so your chart, if you've ever seen a chart, looks like a pie, and there's 12 slices of the pie, and those are your houses. Those are areas of your life. So your chart has signs. It has planets or placements, and it has houses. And so all those 260 people would have the same planets that in the same signs. They might be in different houses depending on their location.
A
So no two people are ever the same.
B
Well, if they're born in the same location, they would be at the same minute. At the same minute, they'd have to
A
be like, same hospital.
B
Yes. Or like, same time zone.
A
Same time zone, yeah.
B
Not even same time zone, same hemisphere and time zone.
A
Yeah.
B
So like, everybody born in this moment in California right now would have the same chart, same chart.
A
And can people learn more about natal charts@spiritdaughter.com?
B
yeah, yeah, absolutely.
A
Yeah. It's fascinating with you and your own journey. I've had people on the show, all different beliefs, all different faiths. No faith, like, all different political beliefs. Vote, different, love, different. I love it all.
B
That's great, actually.
A
I really believe this, Jill. I feel like. I feel like if we don't have, you know, open conversations with people who vote different than us and believe different, even if we think they are nuts, like, I have family. I'm like, what in the world? How could you possibly vote that? I just, you know, but I feel like if we don't have conversations with people that have all different beliefs, like, how can we ever help heal humanity through love? Like, so I just. I love. So I'm fascinated also to learn in your journey what you share. You go so deep in the book. I said to Jill right when we were walking in here, I said, I'm gonna let you decide how much you share, because your book, I mean, you go. I was shocked. How I love it. I love it because, you know, for whether someone's in your community right now, has followed your work for a long time, loves you already, or they're new to meeting you today, they're going to get to know you. They're going to get to know you at a whole other level. But in your journey, I'm curious, you know, because obviously millions of people right now look to you for inspiration for their. On their own journey toward, you know, spirituality or enlightenment or just happiness and joy and freedom and power and expansiveness and all of those things in your own journey, what role right now, if any, does faith or belief in God play? Like, how do you define God?
B
That's a good question. So I talk about in the book that I did grow up Catholic, and I had a lot of questions about the church and God. And I think I even say in one line, like, a lot of people find answers and even comfort in religion. I found nothing but questions that went unanswered. And so I would not say that I am a Catholic. And I told my mother when I was 12 that I was not Catholic and she needed to get me out of Catholic school. And she. She listened. Now, I will say my grandmother was very, very religious and my entire life, and she really taught me in a lot of ways. And she would always say, like, you know, you may not know why things are happening, and you just need to. To trust. And you, you know, everything has a meaning, everything has a higher purpose, and you just have to trust that. And that came from her faith. And for me, I still believe those. Those pieces. And I. It's not that I don't believe in God. I just think about it differently. I think about God more as energy and the universe and the universe that we're all held within. And it's not somebody or something that I'm necessarily praying to. It's just an energy that holds everything. And I even define and talk about the Akashic field, which is the energetic matrix and spirituality. And to me, that feels more like a godlike figure than traditional God by a religion.
A
With Akashic records and all of that. With the you talk about in your book, like keeping records of everyone's soul and things like this. Do you believe that is real and can you explain what that is?
B
I do believe that is real. The Akashic field is a matrix of energy that holds everything. Right? So we know we're energetic beings. I mean, when we really zoom out and think about it, we're like, we're energy sitting here on this planet. That's energy that's spinning around a sun. That's energy that's flying through a solar system that's made of other planets. And it's all energy at the. And this isn't like energy from like a woo woo or even a spiritual. I mean, it's energy from physics. Like this is. We're all energy at the core of. Of who we are, of our actual physical matter is energy. And so, you know, when we think about energy and energy connecting, it creates a field. Creates an energetic field. And you can ask an electrician this and they'll define it for you. You know, electricians are always working with energetic fields. And so again, it's like kind of taking the spirituality almost out of it and bringing it down to like, matter and particles. Right? So anything that is energetic is going to create an energetic field. And then when you have all of these beings creating an energetic field in this universe with all these planets, it's all connected. And so it creates this web of energy. And so all the fields are connected at some point. And that in essence is what the Akashic field is. And it holds the history of all the energy that is connected. And so that's where the records come in. Because energy cannot be destroyed. It just changes form. And so we're still working with the energy that originally, you know, created came from the Big Bang. And then it all. It just evolved into different forms and different forms and different forms. But that energy and quantum physics is, you know, proving this stays connected throughout time and space forever. And so that's what creates the Akashic field and the akashic records.
A
Do you think our soul goes back into energy and then what do you think happens from there?
B
I do. I do think that we're energetic beings and our soul goes back when we take another form and so in a lot of ways, I do believe in traditional reincarnation, in that. In an energetic sense, and that we've.
A
Would it be human form again or.
B
It could be any other form, Whatever our soul needs. Like, I believe we. Our soul is really the essence, is the energy that is part of our body that is on an evolution this lifetime. And so everything that we attract, we bring in our astrology. Why we chose to be born at a certain time and date and is. Is all about our energy evolving and what it needs and wants for its energetic evolution. Every mistake, every challenge, everything.
A
And who or what do you think created all of that energy?
B
I wish I knew. Yeah. Yeah. So, I mean, that's. That's the big question, right? That's the question that religion's been trying to answer forever. Yeah, yeah.
A
With, you know, it's interesting with. When it comes to our own knowing or our own intuition. I was curious about. I was thinking about this, reading your book as well. You know, if. Let's say. Let's say you have a knowing that about the akashic field and you have a knowing that feels like that's true, and let's say I have this knowing that God is real in a traditional Christian sense, let's say. Does that mean one of our knowings is wrong if we both have that knowing?
B
No.
A
Say more.
B
Yeah, I don't think it's wrong. I think that we all have different perspectives, and that's how I look at everything. So even when we look at all the different religions, even when we look at all the different spiritual modalities, so we look at everything from acupuncture to ayurvedic medicine, these lenses that we're looking at, at humans through every religion, it's all just a different lens, right? So it's like we're all. We're all correct. Like, I think everything. There's a grain of truth in everything. And it's just how we're all trying to explain and understand human consciousness, why we're here, what we're doing. We're all trying to answer this. These same existential questions through a different lens. And I don't think anything is wrong. I don't think anything is 100% right either.
A
Do you feel that more and more people are drawn or come to you because they're looking for those kind of answers and like they're looking for fulfillment or they're looking for a more evolved sense of meaning?
B
Yeah, I think they are. I mean, I think people find astrology, they find spirituality because they are looking for meaning in their lives. They are looking for, you know, answers to these existential questions that I started asking when I was 12 years old. You know, we all want to know, like, why are we here? What are we doing? What am I supposed to be doing with my life? And I think a lot of people look to astrology for those answers because it can give them a framework, I can give them some direction. Maybe they feel lost, and they can say, oh, I'm an Aries son. Aries are bold and courageous. They like to initiate things. I'm a starter. Perhaps I should find a career where I could use those things. It gives them a jumping off point in a lot of ways to experiment and try and figure out who they are.
A
Right now we are in, you know, 2026. We are in the newer part of the new year, and so many people are excited about the year of the Fire Horse.
B
Yeah.
A
And can you share for someone listening, like, what does it mean? You've gone in on your. On. On your. Your Instagram, too, about different layers of it and different parts of it. What do you say? What. What should we know about the year of the Fire Horse and what this means for us?
B
Yes. The year of the fire. Everybody is so excited about the year of the Fires. I've never seen people more excited about any. Any other I. Our joke in spirit daughter, is next year is the year of the Fire Goat. So we're like, I wonder how people are going to like that one.
A
Is it really the Fire Goat?
B
Okay, so, yeah, the Fire Horse, you know, it's a. It's a year of new beginnings. This year, it's a universal one year. And we're in Aries season. So this is why I chose March 24th to launch the book in Aries season. In a universal one year in the year, the Fire Horse. And so the fire horse just gives us that momentum. But, you know, everybody's been talking about, like, charging forward and going for it. And we just left the year of the Snake, which is all about introspection and shedding and letting go of things. And the fire horse is like, okay, now you're ready. And so I think that really resonated with a lot of people where they felt like last year, which was a nine year as well, which nine is all about completion in numerology. And so I think they really felt like they completed a cycle last year. They shed something. They shed a layer. And this is the year for rebirth. And so that fire horse is just like, okay, let's Move forward. Let's move forward, though, with an open heart. And that was one of the things I was really sharing on my Instagram, is like, horses are amazing beings, right? They. They just. They have this openness. Like, I don't know if you've done any or heard of, like, equine therapy, where, you know, they. People have these amazing breakthroughs, you know, just with these horses, merging energy with these horses. It said that their heart has a field, an energetic field, five times larger than humans. And so they're just amazing beings. So I think that's really important to remember is, yes, charge forward. Yes. Go after your dreams. Yes. Use that momentum and that fire to push you forward. And do it with an open heart.
A
That's so beautiful. You know, many years ago, when I was working in television news as anchor and reporter, I was out doing a story for multiple days at this. It was a horse rescue ranch. And they paired rescued horses that had gone through abuse that were rescued, and they paired them with kids that had gone through abuse. A lot of kids that wouldn't have speak to adults about anything. And I'll never forget, Jill, like, literally, I was maybe 100 yards away, and I was filming the, you know, where they would introduce the kids to horses and they would kind of do their own thing and they just would let them be, and they'd pair one kid with a horse. And I'll never forget, like, I just remember just sobbing. Like, just sobbing, watching. There was a girl who had gone through horrific things, and she was a young teen, and she'd never spoken to an adult about it. She was just telling everything to a horse. And then she would just lay on the horse, and the horse would lay down in the field, and she'd, like, put her head on the. On the horse, and they would just like. And I just remember watching it. And for me, it was one of the first times in my life I felt like I ever felt God's presence. I was just like, whoa. I just remember just, like, sobbing. But, yes, to your point, horses are magnificent.
B
Yes.
A
Magnificent.
B
Yes. And that's the part I want everybody to really remember this year, is that because so many people are just like, charge forward. Go, go, go. And it's like, no, remember that softness that. That feminine side? I feel like the masculine side is getting really thrown about, especially on Instagram, which is that, like, you know, go, go, go. And there's a softness to these horses and an openness and just this amazingness to them.
A
Well, you know, when we talk about. You talk about layers of awakening. Can you talk about the layers of awakening?
B
Yes. So it all started. Somebody texted me right before I started writing this book. And they were like, can you explain spiritual awakening to me? And I was like, well, that's a book. And so I think a lot of people think of spiritual awakening as this, like, a moment of clarity where you're just all of a sudden, you're enlightened, you know who you are, you know what to do. You're like, ah, the clouds part. You know, the. Everybody sings. And really what I found in my journey was that it was layers of awakening. And a lot of it was not fun, not perfect, not angelic in any way. It was, you know, awakening to pain, awakening to where I needed to forgive others, where I needed to forgive myself, awakening to pattern that I held, situations that I was choosing over and over again to reinforce old patterns, old limiting beliefs. Right. We choose our limiting beliefs until we become aware of them. And so, you know, awakening is steps. And it's not just about this, like, perfect moment that happens because you read an inspirational quote. I love it when people read my quotes and write them and have them on their post it notes around their homes. And awakening comes through a lot more than just that.
A
Yeah, I think that's really important to call out. One of the layers you talk about in your book that I think a lot of people are gonna relate to is when you say that we unconsciously recreate the emotional patterns we grew up with even when they're hurting us. Can you share a little bit about that? Because, yeah, I did that. I dated that many times.
B
But, yeah, yeah, I think we all dated that. I married that first marriage. I always have to say that because my second marriage is wonderful and totally different. But, yes. So I grew up in a. In a household that, you know, the emotional temperature was anxiety. You know, it's just there. And so I, in a lot of ways, was addicted to anxiety. And because it was normal, it was comfortable. It was comfortable. And so our brains are trained to choose the familiar. It's how we evolved. The familiar equals safe to our brains. So our brains aren't like, oh, let's have you build this amazing career and, like, become your most enlightened self. Our brains are like, let's just keep you safe. Let's just get you to the next day, like in the most primal point. And so we will choose the known over the unknown until we recognize the pattern and become aware of it and awaken to it and break that pattern. Because the comfort our Comfort zones feel safe even. Even if they're not safe. Like, I was in a relationship that was definitely not safe, but I kept choosing it over and over again because it felt normal. It felt like a comfort zone. It felt like, oh, this relationship is giving me anxiety. Anxiety is normal to me. This is my baseline. This is what feels comfortable. And so I was choosing it over and over again. And I think that's really, really powerful to understand that. We choose these patterns. We choose these patterns because they're comfort, not because we want to punish ourselves or because we're terrible people.
A
Right?
B
We choose them because our brains are wired to choose the familiar.
A
And we don't even realize we're doing it right. Like, sometimes we're like, why do I keep having a friend that just doesn't show up for me the way I show up for them? Why can't I make good friends as an adult? Or, why do I keep dating people that just mistreat me? Or. And we. We think it's like bad luck or something like that. But it's like, when you really start to understand this and you do such a good job talking about so many of these things in spirit daughter, it's like, oh, wait, that's what's comfortable to me. And I'm probably subconsciously thinking that's what I'm worthy of or that's what I'm comfortable around or whatever it might be. So you say we're biologically set up to forget our own amazingness. So can you explain that? And also, you know, for the person listening right now who's like, huh? Have I even thought about my own amazingness? Do I even think I have amazingness at all? Can you share about this? Because this is so inspirational. Inspiring.
B
Yeah. Well, there's so many parts of us in our biology that are absolutely amazing. Like, the fact that we're just breathing right now without thinking about it is amazing. Like, yes, there's so many little things. The fact that we have this brain that can set up these patterns, we can change. We can become conscious of it. We can have discussions about so many different things. Like, who else can. What other species can sit here and have a discussion about consciousness and God and religion, like, that alone is amazing. And then we have this amazing brain that is set up to filter out so much. And so I think that's the piece that a lot of people don't understand, is there's so much happening around us. There's so much stimuli happening. There's lights, there's. There's A whole energy happening. And this isn't like energy, woo woo, spiritual. You know, there's just tons, tons happening. Our brain has evolved to filter most of it out. Most of the information around you, you filter out. Because it literally would like make your brain explode if you took it all in. And so that's what I meant by we're biologically set up to filter out our amazingness because we're biologically set up to focus on threats, to focus on survival, to say, okay, we're going to scan a room for threats when we could scan a room for opportunities. And so when we set intentions, we're programming our brain. Our brain has this amazing filter on it called the Reticular Activating System, or ras. And so this filter, you know, we can program it. And so its default mode is set to filter in things for survival. So it's going to look for threats. It's kind of like a bouncer at a club where it's like, oh, you look okay. You don't look okay, I'm gonna let you in. You need to stay out. You're shady. You know, that's its default mode, but we can actually change it. And that's part of what makes us so amazing is we can say, hey, filter, why don't you expand? We're safe. I'm gonna use meditation to regulate my nervous system. Everything's safe. You can expand. Stop scanning for threats, scan for opportunities. For this vision I want to create, I have this vision of my life, I want to manifest it. I'm going to sit and rehearse it in my mind so it feels familiar when it happens, because your brain won't know the difference between what you envision and reality. And so when we visualize things over and over again, when they start to manifest and happen in reality, our brain goes, oh, that's safe. I know that. That is now familiar. And then we start that RAS expands and we can start scanning the environment for opportunity, opportunities to actually manifest that vision in reality.
A
That is so powerful what you just said. I want to make sure you guys don't miss what Jill just said. Because the way we were talking about how, oh, we're familiar with someone treating us horrible, which is why we keep dating the same dude over and over, whatever it is the same way. Because that's familiar. That's what's comfortable. So powerful what you just said. You said the things you want, the things you, when you visualize them over and over, you imagine them you like, like that starts to also become familiar or comfortable in your brain. Which then makes sense why people say visualization helps with manifestation of things. I remember sitting in the QVC parking lot after being told no for years and literally being like on the verge of bankruptcy for so long, trying to keep our company alive and then getting one big shot on qvc. And I sat in that parking lot the entire week beforehand. I imagine the sold out sign coming up across the screen. I imagine all these things like the way I imagined like an Olympic athlete would like, you know, envision landing a triple axel or whatever it is. And it's interesting that I've never thought of it this way though, till you just said that, that it becomes then familiar to us, which is part of the power of visualization. I've never thought of it that way before. I've always believed it worked. But it's starting to make so much more sense the way you explained it, which is beautiful. So, okay, Spirit Daughter is out now this much anticipated book. Millions of people turn to Jill Winterstein, Spirit Daughter for inspiration for their own journey of spiritual awakening and enlightenment and joy and their best life. And so just to ask you for the person at home who's like, huh, I think I might pick that book up. What, what would you tell them they should get ready for and can expect when they get Spirit Daughter home?
B
I think that they should expect to get a page turner of a self help book because that's how it's been told. To me, the memoir part is quite a page turner where you want to know what happens and it is the messy, chaotic, traumatic in a lot of ways. To me, part of my journey that I feel is very inspirational. And I want people to read this book and say, oh, wow, I got to the end and now I'm starting to figure out who I am. And if Jill went through all of that and became who she is, I can also make my dream a reality. I can manifest my dream. And so I wanted to really empower people like we chose that title. You know, own your power, change your life. Like, that's, that's what I want. I want people to read this book and be inspired and empowered to change their lives in any direction they choose.
