Jamie Kern Lima

Anastasia Soiree
Anyways, I'm so competitive. I love to win. I have to work. I need to know what's going on. Me and my daughter, we are hands on with the business.
Jamie Kern Lima
There's a lot of people listening that maybe they have a friend or loved one working with them. When Claudia first started working for you, because now, oh my goodness, now your daughter is also an icon in the beauty industry and a trailblazer and a change maker. You share in the book a tough love moment when you had to fire her. Oh, yeah, yeah.
Anastasia Soiree
It was a tough love.
Jamie Kern Lima
Yeah, yeah.
Anastasia Soiree
I was always tough with my daughter.
Jamie Kern Lima
And she was, I think showing up late, right?
Anastasia Soiree
Yes. And I fire her.
Jamie Kern Lima
You fire her? Yeah.
Anastasia Soiree
We have to set rules here. Number one, you are never late again. Number two, I am your boss. I'm not your mother when you walk in. And I'm going to be tougher with you than all the employees because I could set an example from that point.
Jamie Kern Lima
Forward, did everything shift?
Anastasia Soiree
Yes. Yeah. When I came in this country, do you know what was my biggest joy was, oh, my God, you could have three jobs. Because I was thinking, like, oh, maybe I could work at this place and I will work at the pizza place and I will work here. I could get three jobs. That was amazing.
Jamie Kern Lima
There's so many places where you can't get one job and you're like, yes, Whoa. I can get three jobs.
Anastasia Soiree
Three jobs. That's amazing.
Jamie Kern Lima
That's amazing.
Anastasia Soiree
My biggest regret is that I didn't have more kids.
Jamie Kern Lima
Really?
Anastasia Soiree
Yes. You should have more. Because at the end of the day, we build this incredible life and an incredible business, but I wish I had more kids to put them all to work. For me, the end of the day, family is everything.
Jamie Kern Lima
You've sort of done it all. And you can sit here now and say, this is what matters to me, the most important. Even through this conversation, we're gonna borrow your courage. Anastasia Soiree
Thank you so much for having me.
Jamie Kern Lima
And you still work so hard because you do not need to work at all. And you know, and I have people say to me, like, because I work a lot right now, I actually work too much right now. But I love it. Like, I love, like, I love this show. I want it. Like, I'm so honored to share your story with so many people. So I love it. But I'm curious for you because you don't have to do nothing, right? So why is it right now you still work?
Anastasia Soiree
I love it. I love to be. To be. I'm so competitive. I love to be in the. In involve. I love to, to win. I love to create products that might to me, my biggest compliment is when I read a comment and say, oh, I love your products. I cannot live without my brow wiz or micro stroke, whatever it is. To me that is an incredible fuel to my fire.
Jamie Kern Lima
Yeah.
Anastasia Soiree
And I love it. What else I will do?
Jamie Kern Lima
Like, you're working.
Anastasia Soiree
No, I don't feel like I'm working.
Jamie Kern Lima
It's such a blessing.
Anastasia Soiree
It's such a blessing. This is what I think. It's a blessing that I have the passion. I wake up every morning and I am so fired to go on the zoom or whatever. I have work. Yes. I'm so zoomed out sometimes. But I have to work. I need to know what's going on. Me and my daughter, we are hands on with the business.
Jamie Kern Lima
So, you know, I have heard a number of friends and people share that they believe that the greatest of all the forms of success, one of the greatest for them in their life, is when their adult children actually want to spend time with them. And you have built your incredible business alongside your incredible daughter Claudia. Can you talk about that?
Anastasia Soiree
Well, many times people kind of mention that you are so lucky that your daughter wanted to work with you. And I answer them, well, she didn't want her to work with me, but I didn't give her choice because I was working so many hours. I wanted kind of to spend some times with her.
Jamie Kern Lima
Yeah.
Anastasia Soiree
So when she was in school to she worked, she started working at the salon part time to get some extra money for her gas or whatever she wanted to buy herself.
Jamie Kern Lima
Yeah.
Anastasia Soiree
And she started working at the front desk. I, I, and I could see her and I think was important for her to see how hard I worked because I don't think she realized how hard I was working. She will always complain, you are never at my school meetings. You are never at the events that we have at the school. And I used to tell her like, I can't, I can't cancel my clients. I have six months ahead of my schedule that clients will book themselves. So she started working at the front desk. At the beginning I was, was a little challenging. But slowly she start getting really good at what she was doing. And after a while she went to the corporate office and she started working in every single department. Because I wanted her to understand as you know, creating a company and a beauty business, every department is completely different, operations are different. Reading a contract and salesperson, it's a different department. Packaging, marketing, every department is great and has an important role in building a company. And I wanted her to understand everything. So she did that. And she loved making products, the product development and she stayed there. And in 2012, as I'm sure you read in the book, she came with the advice. I mean, she was the one talking about the Instagram was a new app. And she said, mom, we are traveling because every weekend we used to travel to do personal appearance in Nordstrom's around the country. And she said, we work seven days a week and traveling is not that easy as you know, is this app Instagram. We could post videos or pictures and maybe we don't need to travel that much to promote our brand. I said, of course, let's try it. And we posted few pictures and of course we start reading every single comment. And I remember vividly one comment we posted the Braviz picture and one lady said, oh, I wish I could buy this pencil. And I said, send me the address and I will ship you one. And she said, oh, you can, because I live in a small village in India. And that was the moment when I thought, wow, the reach that this app has, it's unbelievable. I mean, how I will reach in 2012, somebody in India. And that was the beginning of Full Force. Me and Claudia, not only we did everything else in the company, we run the Instagram, just us and you and.
Jamie Kern Lima
Claudia and your entire company were so visionary with everything, with social media, with influencers. I want to ask you because I think there's a lot of people listening that maybe they have a Friend or loved one working with them.
Anastasia Soiree
Yes.
Jamie Kern Lima
For me, it was my husband that was a whole. It is a miracle we are married.
Anastasia Soiree
We are still married.
Podcast Narrator/Promoter
Yes.
Jamie Kern Lima
It's a miracle that we are still in love because it is hard to run a business or work with someone you love or care about. For you. I love that you share so much of the behind the scenes in the book. And so when Claudia first started working.
Podcast Narrator/Promoter
For you, because now.
Jamie Kern Lima
Oh, my goodness. Now your daughter is also an icon in the beauty industry and a trailblazer and a change maker. And. And. But when you go to the very beginning, when she's working in the front desk, right. And she's. And she's just trying to earn some extra money and can you talk about. And this is long before you know everything else, can you talk about how that dynamic was? Because you share in the book a tough love moment when you had to fire her? Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Anastasia Soiree
It was a tough love.
Jamie Kern Lima
Yeah, yeah.
Anastasia Soiree
I was always tough with my daughter, I think, because I wanted her to be disciplined. I wanted her. Look, I love my daughter, and no question about that, but I believe kids need discipline. And she always had to know that I'm the mother and she is the child, and she needs to follow the rules. Of course, when you are young, when you are a teenager, you don't like too many rules, but give no choice to Claudia. And yeah, we used to fight. We used to. But at the end of the day, she needed to do what she's supposed to.
Jamie Kern Lima
And she was, I think, showing up late, right?
Anastasia Soiree
Yes. And I fire her.
Jamie Kern Lima
You fired her? Yeah. And was there a moment where you're sort of hoping like, I hope she comes back. I hope this works out?
Anastasia Soiree
She. First of all, she was so good at the front desk. Now we have. We need three people at the front desk. And she was so good. She was efficient. She knew how to handle clients. She was excellent. And I wanted her to come back. I couldn't replace her. I couldn't find anyone to replace her. And when she came back to, she. She got the job at the insurance company, and she came back and she asked to borrow some money because she didn't have enough money to pay her rent. She said, mom, I didn't know I have to pay so many taxes and can I borrow some money? Like, no, I'm sorry, I can't. So I wanted her to beg me to get her job back because I. I couldn't ask her. I want to. To kind of teach her a lesson. And I went back in the room. And after I. I shaved, I had another client. I came back, she was still outside. And I said, claudia, I'm not going to give you the money. The only thing I could do, because you are really good in what you do, I could give you the job back. It's like, okay, but we have to set rules here. The moment you walk in, number one, you are never late again. Number two, I am your boss. I'm not your mother when you walk in. And I'm going to be tougher with you than all the employees because I could see. Set an example. And that was the rule.
Jamie Kern Lima
And from that point forward, did everything shift?
Anastasia Soiree
Yes.
Jamie Kern Lima
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Anastasia Soiree
Was probably the best lesson of her life.
Jamie Kern Lima
Yeah. With that. With. That's so good. Because a lot of people struggle to set boundaries at work or they. Or they, you know, if they work with someone that they're related to or that they love or care about or a good friend. It's hard for people to do that and to separate.
Anastasia Soiree
No, no. For me, you could. No. Could be my daughter. It doesn't matter. Business is business. I never, ever do anything. Not only for anyone. Business is tough. You need to perform. You don't perform, we don't survive.
Jamie Kern Lima
Yes. And don't you find. I'm curious, actually, because I think once you start taking off and you start having so much success, success can mask inefficiencies inside. And so were you. Have you always sort of been on top of all of that, too? Did you ever experience that where you had underperformers that you were sort of carrying because of the success?
Anastasia Soiree
And most of the time, I like to reevaluate the people that work, and maybe they cannot perform in certain area, but they are better in another job in the company. And I like to switch that. And I like to use their talent because I like the people that I work with. Yes.
Jamie Kern Lima
And a lot of your people have been with you forever.
Anastasia Soiree
Yes. I have goals that have worked for me for, like, 25 years.
Podcast Narrator/Promoter
Yeah.
Anastasia Soiree
Yeah. I love that. It's one virtue that I really admire in people. Loyal and guilty. Yes.
Jamie Kern Lima
I know. When I get resumes now to this day where they have, like a job here.
Anastasia Soiree
I tell everyone, and for everyone that is listening, please do not jump one year, every year to another job. Don't jump. Because anyone that will look at your resume and see, I was for one year at this company and another year at this company and another year at this company. No, you cannot build something anywhere if you. If you are not there for a Few years. Yeah. So bite the bullet and stay there.
Jamie Kern Lima
Yeah.
Anastasia Soiree
Build something.
Jamie Kern Lima
Yeah. We won't even entertain a resume at all. And it's interesting. Even we work with a lot of agencies. Recruiting agencies.
Anastasia Soiree
Yes.
Jamie Kern Lima
They'll send us so many, you know, resumes where it's one year, one year. Even though we tell them, no, no, no, no. We won't even look at it. And. But it is wild how common that is nowadays. And all I see when I see that is, oh, you're going to jump ship here in a year. We're going to pour into you and.
Anastasia Soiree
Pay you because you invest. You invest.
Jamie Kern Lima
Yes, yes.
Anastasia Soiree
And. And what. What people need to understand is that you invest the company, invest a lot in. In training you to learn to see. And then when you move and you go to somebody else and you say, oh, the. I grew the company or whatever. No, in one year, you couldn't do that.
Jamie Kern Lima
Yes.
Anastasia Soiree
So people that are going to interview you, they are smart people. And if you want to really be believable, you need to stay a few years in a job.
Jamie Kern Lima
Yeah. I think it's like the most important.
Anastasia Soiree
The most important. Build something. Build a great resume. If you are young.
Jamie Kern Lima
Yeah. Yeah. When you think about Claudia.
Anastasia Soiree
Yes.
Jamie Kern Lima
And you think about your journey of everything you've built from the days when you were the sole breadwinner all the way through to us sitting here right now, do you have any. Would you change anything in terms of how much you worked? Because I think about this in my own life and I get this question all the time. Like, should I do? You know, I want to launch this, but oh, my gosh, I'm working so much. I'm missing out on my life and missing out on friends, and my kids say I'm never home. And would you. Do you have. Would you change anything? Meaning do you have any regrets about how much you worked to get to where you are right now?
Anastasia Soiree
I never regret. What? My past? I don't like to look that much in my past because I think everything I've done got me where I am today. And I'm so happy and I'm so grateful and I love that I was able to work that hard. Do you know, when I came in this country, do you know what was my biggest joy?
Jamie Kern Lima

Jamie Kern Lima
And now more of this incredible conversation together.
Anastasia Soiree
Do you know when I came in this country, do you know what was my biggest joy was oh my God, you could have three jobs. Because I was thinking like, oh maybe I could work at this place and I will work at the pizza place and I will work here. I could get three jobs. That was amazing. So, so it was a joyful thing for me. And being able to work and to achieve whatever you want and being happy with what you do. I think and having a purpose is probably the best thing I have ever done in my life. Forget about the success and of course I enjoy every minute, but having a purpose to me is the best thing. Not only that I was able myself to have that, the purpose, but I was able to bring my daughter to have a purpose to me. That's my biggest achievement.
Jamie Kern Lima
It's so beautiful. Like the meaning we attach to things or the story we tell ourselves about things can just change our entire life. There's people that don't realize that there's so many places where you can't get one job and you're like, yes, whoa, I can get three jobs.
Anastasia Soiree
Three jobs. That's amazing.
Jamie Kern Lima
That's amazing. And I just think hearing that is so powerful because we all have the power to shift our perspective on stuff. When you think of your daughter Claudia, what are your hopes for her in this life?
Anastasia Soiree
She will have children. She always, when I ask her her about Claudia, I mean I think you, it's, you need to have a baby. It's like, mom, we can, we need to launch this product. Like we are too busy. No, you are never too busy. You should have a baby. But I hope my, my biggest regret is that I didn't have more kids.
Jamie Kern Lima
Really?
Anastasia Soiree
Yes. You should not. You should have more. Because at the end of the day, we build this incredible life and incredible business, but I wish I had more kids to put them all to work for me. But I think it's so amazing because at the end of the day, family is everything, and having children is amazing. It's a gift that nothing could give you more joy.
Jamie Kern Lima
I don't think I've ever met anyone that says, I wish I had fewer kids. Right. It's always, I'm gonna. This last two minutes, I'm gonna replay for my husband over and over, because I've been telling him, he's known. I always want seven. He's like, I think we're good with three. And I'm like, no one ever regrets. But we just. I mean, we just welcomed our third into the world.
Anastasia Soiree
Congratulations.
Jamie Kern Lima
Thank you. But I. And you know. You know, as you said, how hard it is.
Anastasia Soiree
Yes.
Jamie Kern Lima
But I think the same thing. I think, like, you should have more. Yeah. Yeah. 50 years from now, when someone asks, claudia, tell me about your mother. What do you hope? She says.
Anastasia Soiree
I think my daughter is. She will say, my mom work very hard, but she loved what she did. Yeah.
Jamie Kern Lima
And what will she say about who you are to her?
Anastasia Soiree
Oh, we are everything to each other.
Podcast Narrator/Promoter
Yeah.
Jamie Kern Lima
You and I have so much in common. We have been through so many similar things. Look at you, getting emotional.
Anastasia Soiree
Yes.
Jamie Kern Lima
About your daughter.
Anastasia Soiree
Yeah.
Jamie Kern Lima
Yeah. What are you feeling?
Anastasia Soiree
Well, I feel like I run the marathon and we work a lot, but thank God we love what we do. Yeah. What can I say? My mother is 92. She's. I mean, she had a great life, but she's, you know, 92.
Jamie Kern Lima
Yeah.
Anastasia Soiree
And the three of us, I think we. We had this incredible connection. Three generations, incredible connection, supporting each other, and it was not dream big enough for us. And helping and supporting each other. When I left Romania, everybody thought, are you crazy to leave? You don't know anyone there. My mother said, like, no, go, go, go. And I will come when this. When I will be able to come, I will come. Yeah. Like I said, family, it's everything. Sorry. I'm sorry. I don't want to be too emotional.
Jamie Kern Lima
That's beautiful. You're crying. I'm crying. I just. I want to say I'm so. I'm so inspired by your strength, by your story, by your conviction, by your example of betting on yourself, by your just complete embracing of who you fully are. Like, fully, authentically. This is who I am.
Anastasia Soiree
Totally.
Jamie Kern Lima
You know what I mean by you sharing the things that you learned the hard way by sharing. You inviting us into your story in Raising Brows, your new book about just like your journey. Your journey. And also hearing now the things that you value, you know, because you've sort of experienced so many things, good and bad, but so many things people can only dream about, and you've sort of just. You've been inside rooms that people could only imagine. I haven't. Even if I. If I read your actual bio, I would still be reading it in an hour because of how much you've done. How many of the most incredible, iconic women from all over the world that are not just your clients, but your dear friends and love you. I mean, you've just done so many things. And what I love is you've sort of done it all. And you can sit here now and say, this is what matters to me.
Anastasia Soiree
The most important.
Jamie Kern Lima
Yeah. Yeah.
Anastasia Soiree
Yes, the most important. My family, my mother, my daughter, my friends, people that I work with. Very simple. I like simple life. And I'm still excited that I could work and love what I do, and I love that.
Jamie Kern Lima
I think people are going, including myself. I think even through this conversation, we're gonna borrow your courage. We're gonna borrow your strength. Like, I literally felt myself in my body being in your spot where you're like, I don't care if no one will valet this car. I'm prioritizing this, and I'm gonna park this far away. So my daughter's not, you know, all the things, but, like, you're. You do not care about what other people think. And I just think that all of us need to borrow that courage. Because so many of our. Of us, for so many reasons, we shrink or we play it small, or we. We don't go for it, or we doubt ourselves out of it, or we conform.
Anastasia Soiree
And it's another form of when you do not care or when you show the other person that their negative thoughts doesn't affect you, then they will not do it anymore. You know what I mean? You build an imaginary wall that you don't let anyone to bully you, to talk bad to you, to stay strong. And I promise you that this works.
Jamie Kern Lima
Do you feel like you have that?
Anastasia Soiree
Imagine, oh, yeah. This is how I build that. Because, I mean, it was very difficult at the beginning for me. I mean, I used to. I remember Claudia was at the front desk, and. And she used to say, mom, I don't know that the clients are coming here. I don't have a spot for them. And they scream at me and they are rude to me because they want an appointment right now and I cannot fit them in. And I used to say, claudia, this is how you're going to handle this. Build this imaginary glass wall between you and the clients. You always have to be polite to the clients because they are everything to us. Very polite. And if they don't understand that we don't have time, we are completely booked. You always have to be nice and say, let me see what I could do for you. Just give me a few minutes and check. Maybe she could come tomorrow or maybe she could go and shop at Neiman Marcus and come little bit later or get their cell number and if they will be able to, you could call them and they could come immediately. If a client will not show up for their appoint, find a way to show greatness and goodness and I will promise you, you will be completely different. This is how she did. She did it and she completely changed her aura and the relationship between her and the customers. Always. You have to have that imaginary wall.
Jamie Kern Lima
I bet that's so good. And I bet you teaching her that because I know she was such an innovator and visionary early with social media and with influencer strategy, with just, I mean, you know, it's interesting that, you know, nowadays 2025, 2026, I think that any entrepreneur has to be on social media. Has to be. I mean, now it's just part of it, but a lot of people don't know how to handle it when you get people that come at you or say negative things. And so I bet you for her, you teaching her that invisible wall and like, you know, and still, you know, show greatness, but don't let that negativity penetrate you. Have you ever. Has she ever. Are you ever had tough times being so big on social media and in the influencer world when like some, you know, when that might happen? Have you or have you always been able, both of you, to kind of keep that invisible wall where you don't let it dim your light or impact?
Anastasia Soiree
We tried, yes. I mean, there were moments, probably they were not the nicest, but, you know, you can't make everybody happy.
Jamie Kern Lima
Yeah. Yeah.
Anastasia Soiree
And again, we have the best intention. We are here to, to do the best. We are trying our best. And if you don't like it, I understand.
Jamie Kern Lima
Yeah.
Anastasia Soiree
But, yeah, I'm sorry, I cannot make you happy.
Jamie Kern Lima
Yeah, I try. Those are the most beautiful words because I think people will take those words who are listening right now and be like, okay, am I trying my best Are my intentions good, then, you know what? If I'm not for you, I'm not for you.
Anastasia Soiree
I'm not for you.
Jamie Kern Lima
And just kind of like, yeah, that's so beautiful. You know, you and I have so many different experiences and then also so many similarities in our journey. And. And I just, you know, I think that what I'm realizing more and more as I meet more and more and more and more women and entrepreneurs and men is that a lot of us go through similar things, but a lot of people think they're alone in their rejections or their nos or their hardship. And it's one of the most beautiful, powerful reasons why I'm so happy you wrote this book, book Raising Brows, because people are going to connect through your story. And one of the many things we have in common is both of us have had our lives completely changed by Oprah. You say that early on when you would watch her show, right? You had immigrated to this country, you were learning English, watching her show, and you say, if she could find her way, so can I. And what I love so much about your book is there are going to be so many people that pick up Raising Brows, and they're going to go, wow, okay, if Anastasia can figure this out, I can figure my thing out. If she can do this, I can figure out how to do this. And so I just want to ask you for the person listening who is going, oh, wait, okay, maybe this book, Raising Anastasia story is for me. What would you say to them that they're going to get out of this book when they get it home?
Anastasia Soiree
I believe that they should get that power where they will think the days, they will feel like, I can't do this anymore. They want to give up. If Anastasia was able to do it, I could do it, too. I mean, everyone else has much more than what I had when I came. So I didn't speak the language. I didn't know anyone. I didn't have money. I mean, no, no. You know, every single box was with no, no, no. And I still didn't give up. I started and I did it. And if I was able to do it, everybody else would be able to do it. Just, they need to believe in themselves. That's it. I think that's the key. You need to believe in yourself. You need to believe in your dream. You need to believe that it's something there for you, but you need to take action. Don't look for the perfect plan, the business plan. Don't look for the perfect scenario. Just start doing and Everything will roll. I think. Didn't you notice at least? I noticed that when I start working and doing the eyebrows, everything happened. I never thought when I start doing eyebrows that I'm going to build a cosmetic company, but it rolled. Once you take the action and you start doing, things will happen at the end of the day.

You know what I'm thinking about as well, that I just want to say is I personally, I feel so stronger right now just from having this conversation with you. I do. Like, I literally feel stronger. And that was making me so excited for everyone who's listening to this or part of this. And you know, I. I know you know Nadia, comanic, famous Romanian gymnast. And I. There's a movie, the movie called Nadia, which is like based on her life. And there is a quote in that movie that I love so much, I put it in my book. I just, I love the quote, but the quote reminds me of you. And it's when Bella, Caroly, the coach, I know Bella, you know, Bella was looking for a gymnast. And in the movie he is on, he's going to a school looking for a potential gymnast. And he's in the schoolyard and then in the classroom and he goes up to Nadia, who he meets for the first time and he says, do you believe that little girls can fly? And I just remember. And she like, nodded. And I just remember the first time I ever saw that. And I'm like, I believe girls can fly. Like, what that meant to me. And when I think of you, I think of both of our stories, actually. I think of that quote, like, I just see you and I just, I want to say that it is an honor to watch you fly and to watch you help so many other women spread their wings and fly to new heights. And I'm just grateful to know you.
Anastasia Soiree
Thank you so much, Jamie. And I really, really believe that every single person that is listening could fly and could do whatever they want to do, whatever they put their mind into. Just they need to believe that they could do that.
Jamie Kern Lima
Yeah.
Anastasia Soiree
Because I believe it. Yes, they should believe in themselves. Yeah.
Jamie Kern Lima
