International Holocaust Remembrance Day (Jan 27):
• For the world.
• UN-designated.
• Marks liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau (1945).
Yom HaShoah (27 Nisan):
• For the Jewish community.
• Established in 1953.
• A time for internal reflection, storytelling, honoring survivors, educating children.
• Falls April 13–14 in 2026 (Monday–Tuesday).

📖 From the Scriptures — Genesis Minutiae: Polygamy

God’s design:

Adam + Eve → “The two shall become one flesh” (Gen 2:24)

Historical reality:

Lamech — first polygamist (Gen 4:19)
Abraham — Sarah + Hagar (Gen 16, 21)
Jacob — Leah, Rachel, Zilpah, Bilhah (Gen 29–30)
Esau — multiple wives (Gen 26:34; 28:9; 36:2–3)
David — at least 8 wives
Solomon — 700 wives + 300 concubines (1 Kgs 11:3)

Key point:
👉 Polygamy in the Bible is descriptive, not prescriptive.

God actually condemns it:

Deut 17:17 — Kings must not multiply wives “or else their heart will turn away.”

Consequences in Scripture:

Reuben sleeps with Bilhah (Gen 35:22)
Amnon assaults Tamar → Absalom kills him (2 Sam 13)
Absalom sleeps with David’s concubines (2 Sam 16:22)
Solomon’s wives turn his heart (1 Kgs 11:3)

Definitions:

Polygamy: multiple spouses
Polyandry: one woman, many husbands
Polyamory: multiple consensual partners (not marriage)
