And we've got a fun episode today because we are going to be doing well. Why don't you show the people? I picked this up on ebay.
Ginger
We are doing a recap of this one of these episodes. And I was just sitting here, 17 kids and counting, reading a lot of the, like, the back, the labels, looking at the pictures. It's been so long since I've seen this.
Jeremy
So Ginger and I just had an argument because she said this is a typo. 17 kids and counting. The Duggar family may well be the best known large family in history. And famous, famous the world around for having 17 children, all from one intrepid mother. This brood draws attention. And you said that's a typo because.
Ginger
It should say famous around the world.
Jeremy
Famous around the world.
Ginger
Famous the world around.
Jeremy
But I think that's a legitimate.
Ginger
It probably is legitimate. What do I know? But it sounds. It sounds backwards to me.
Jeremy
She doesn't agree that that's. I think it sounds. I feel like this was. When did this come out? In 2009. So 16 years ago.
Ginger
Miss the world around.
Jeremy
I feel like 16 years ago they would have said that on the back of a dvd. Includes four bonus features. So check this out. I got this on ebay, but you have some of these in your keep stakes, don't you?
Ginger
You bought that on ebay so we could do react episodes. And then I was like, what is this package? And you said, oh, it's a DVD look. And I was like, oh, I have that in my keepsake.
Jeremy
Do you have other ones, like different DVD sets? Just.
Ginger
I think they only had that one. That includes the documentaries as well. I believe in bonus features.
Jeremy
Oh, interesting. Oh, yeah, it does. 14 children and pregnant again. 16 children and moving in, raising 16 children. Duggar's big family album.
Ginger
Yeah.
Jeremy
All right, we've got to react to some of these things, but before we get into this, Ginge, remember our new segment.
Ginger
I already forgot. What is it?
Jeremy
Talk about it.
Ginger
Talk about it. Let's talk about it. So Jeremy has a lot to talk about. Guys, look at his arm.
Jeremy
Yeah. If you're watching this, look at this thing.
Ginger
He hates that.
Jeremy
This is a monstrosity.
Ginger
He really does not like it.
Jeremy
So the other week we talked about how I slipped down some wet tile stairs holding Felicity and what I thought could have been broken. It's been confirmed. My fourth metacarpal on my left hand is smashed. And actually, I've got some X rays here. This was really funny.
Ginger
It's insane.
Jeremy
Well, okay, so after. After talking about this a couple weeks ago on the podcast, the next day, I'm like, I should go get an X ray to see if this is actually broken.
Ginger
He went to an urgent care to get an X ray. Now, mind you, this is a week after he fell. So he fell and he was like, I feel like I hurt myself, you know, kind of bad. It's probably bruised out.
Jeremy
It didn't hurt. I had mobility and it didn't hurt. Like, I wasn't wincing through the day.
Ginger
He didn't have a knuckle.
Jeremy
Yeah, that knuckle disappeared on his hand.
Ginger
It was literally gone.
Jeremy
So I go, I get X rays. I don't know if you can see these X rays, like, zoom in. Probably not. It's fractured pretty bad. And I made the joke to the X ray tech. I was like, oh, is it a hairline fracture? And he goes, no. I was like, oh, sorry. So then you set up a doctor for me to go to. Now, here's where it's funny because I thought you sent me to the hand specialist.
Ginger
Yeah.
Jeremy
So I'm in the doctor's office, they call me back. The doc is like, katie, you have the X rays? I say, yeah. So I show her the pictures, and she's like, oh, I don't know what's going on there. I need, like, the breakdown on, like, what the diagnosis is.
Ginger
So what did she do?
Jeremy
Well, no, I thought, well, that's funny. Like, you're a hand doctor. You should be able to. You see these all day. So she says, I'll be right back. Comes back five minutes later with a medical textbook and is going, I think this is what happened. And she's showing me the medical textbook. So I'm like, I can't believe this. I'm at a hand specialist who doesn't know how to read an X ray of a hand or tell me what's wrong. So I'm just flabbergasted and I leave there, I come home, I'm telling you, like, can you believe this? And you're like, jerry, that wasn't the hand specialist. That was your. Just a general care doctor.
Ginger
So it was. He had to get a referral. So the urgent care was not able to refer him to the hand specialist from the urgent care. You have to go to your primary care doctor. Which, at that point, you know, you were like, okay, well, I just need to be Seen. And it was. We were trying to get him in before the weekend. So I called so many doctors, and I was like, can we get him in today? But they were like, no, you know, it's not going to work. So basically I called and I said, okay, well, whoever is on call, just. He'll just see anybody at this point. And so they said, well, that'll work, and they can give him a referral. So I went and saw that doctor who was not a hand specialist. But you thought they were going in because I said they said he needed to see a hand specialist.
Jeremy
I took a picture. I told her, I said, hey, can I just take a picture of this real quick? And she goes, oh, sure. She's showing me the textbook. I was taking a picture of the doctor showing me a medical textbook because.
Ginger
She didn't know that.
Jeremy
I just thought it was so funny. But then I went, oh, okay, so she's not the expert. So then I went in, got the cast. Hopefully this doesn't need to be.
Ginger
Well, this is a crazy thing. So this is. I know it's getting a little long winded at this point, but the details matter. So you ended up going. And you called the hand specialist once you got that referral, and we're gonna schedule an appointment. And they said that they did not have an appointment for two months. Yeah, two months to see them. So I was like, well, I guess it starts to heal wrong, and then you have to, like, rebreak it, Right. And if something's messed up. So basically, he called them and they were like, okay, well, if you can come in today, we can see. Because they had a cancellation, so he was able to go in, see the specialist. It's going to heal for two weeks, and then they're going to check and see if he needs surgery after that, because he might need surgery.
Jeremy
Hopefully.
Ginger
We're praying he doesn't.
Jeremy
This will be on for six weeks total, I think.
Ginger
Crazy. And he already has.
Jeremy
First bone I've ever broken. First time I've ever had a cast.
Ginger
That's shocking. Especially with you playing soccer. I. I was so surprised when you said that. I was like, wait, I mean, I dislocated fingers. Yeah.
Jeremy
Torn.
Ginger
We know that.
Jeremy
Jacked up my. My ligaments.
Ginger
Yeah.
Jeremy
Torn muscles, but never a broken bone.
Ginger
Crazy. We want to take a break from this episode to tell you about Cozy Earth.
Jeremy
Yeah. And specifically, you could go on Cozy Earth's website and buy anything. So use code ginger for 40% off. Anything. Literally anything you get is gonna be good. But. Oh, yeah, We've been talking recently about the bubble cuddle blanket.
Ginger
This blanket is the perfect gift with the holidays coming up, birthdays, anything. I have gifted so much Cozy Earth stuff to family and friends. I've bought so much stuff from them.
Jeremy
Oh yeah.
Ginger
Because it is just that good. Their sheets are buttery soft. So those make a great gift. Or you can get this blanket or pajamas. I've gifted pajamas to multiple people.
Jeremy
And here's the cool thing. So you know how you're always looking for gifts for people who have everything or easy access with Amazon. You know, this is something you get at once but then you don't have to rethink for next year. Just get them something else. Like we have added, we've just kept adding and now they have like these are cozy earth, you know, these little sandal things.
Ginger
So they keep coming out with new stuff, old stuff, and you can just.
Jeremy
Keep getting more cozier stuff.
Ginger
I love it.
Jeremy
So go to cozyearth.com, use code ginger j I n g e r for 40% off site wide. You won't regret it.
Ginger
We want to take a break from this episode to tell you about Magic Spoon. So Felicity was just eating Magic Spoon cereal today. I absolutely love it. I have not been one to eat cereal because of it. Just the lack of protein in it. And I feel like most cereals after I eat it, I feel like rubbish.
Jeremy
Right.
Ginger
Magic Spoon is awesome. I love it because it's high protein.
Jeremy
Yeah. And zero sugar.
Ginger
Yeah.
Jeremy
It tastes incredible. I feel guilty because the last few nights at like 10 o' clock at night, I've been just having a bowl of cereal and I'm looking at all the Magic Spoon cereals we have and I feel bad taking them from the girls because I eat a lot more than they do. But we just replace them.
Ginger
Yeah. It's amazing. So they have all different flavors. You, your favorite flavors. They have marshmallow chocolate, peanut butter, dark chocolate. Our girl's favorite is the fruity one. So they have a fruity one that is comparable to your normal ones. They have a frosted one cocoa. I mean all the things.
Jeremy
Phenomenal. So here's the deal. Get $5 off your next order at magicspoon.com ginger or look for Magic Spoon on Amazon or in your nearest grocery store. That's magicspoon.com ginger for $5. Off. Off. I want to take it off every five minutes.
Ginger
But I'm so glad it's a hard cast. I was talking to one of the sister in laws and they were like Asking me about it, because they had just been out here when. When you had your issue and they just. You. They'd given you like a temporary splint. Was it?
Jeremy
Yeah.
Ginger
And you took it off within, like a day. Because it was like.
Jeremy
I took it off as soon as I left the office.
Ginger
Yeah, as soon as you left the office, you took it off. So then she. I was talking to her yesterday and I was like, I'm just so glad that it's a. I took the splint.
Jeremy
Off, though, because it's inconvenient, but also because I was like, everybody's gonna be asking me what I did.
Ginger
I know.
Jeremy
So then I took it off. And now I've got this.
Ginger
You don't wanna draw attention.
Jeremy
Every single person is like, what did you do to your hand? And so I've gotta come up with a better story than falling downstairs.
Ginger
No, you did. This is how I tell it. He fell down the stairs, but he had Felicity in his arms, which is true. And you were trying to catch her head so she wouldn't gash her head open on the.
Jeremy
But self imposed. It's like I put her in danger and then saved her from the danger.
Ginger
Well, you didn't know that the stairs were wet. So literally after that I went and we were at a fairgrounds when it happened. And so I told the workers there, I was like, hey, you might want to go clean that up. Because they just literally went down and nearly cracked it open. So they cleaned everything up. So it was. It was. It was one of those accidents that you protected her head. And I think that's why you landed so weird because you put your left hand down, she was in your right arm, and when you landed, you just, like, crushed it.
Jeremy
Must have.
Ginger
You saved her head, though.
Jeremy
Crazy.
Ginger
That's all that matters.
Jeremy
Any updates on your end? Anything going on? Talk about it in your life?
Ginger
We. Yeah, we're just still trying to figure out Finn's eczema. I'm off of dairy. I decided not to go to formula at this point because I had been. He was exclusively breastfed. And I just. After I was looking into a lot of the formulas, I have not been able to find one that has no seed oils that's healthy for him. Most of them have only corn syrup as the 65% of the ingredient. And I just cannot bring myself to do that. I'm like, if you have corn syrup later in life, that's fine, but I don't want it to be your main source of nutrition. And I get it. I know that babies need more than we think they do. You know, with those things, it's a balance in formula. There's a reason why. But for me, personally, I don't. I can't. I just can't bring myself to do that. So I'm eliminating soy dairy, and we'll see beyond that how he reacts to it. But it still has just been a daily battle with that. So that's kind of the season a lot for me. It's frustrating. And so if any of you guys know of any formulas, please, please let me know if there's a solution there or any.
Jeremy
You said dairy free and soy free, right?
Ginger
Dairy and soy free at this point. And then if not formula, like, if you found things that work. Because I've tried goat's milk lotion. I've tried all the things, and. Poor boy.
Jeremy
Yeah.
Ginger
His skin keeps reacting. We were at the pediatrician a couple times, like, just yesterday, again, trying to figure out what's going on. So.
Jeremy
Yeah.
Ginger
Yeah.
Jeremy
Through many tribulations.
Ginger
He's so happy, though, that's the thing. Like, it's not affecting him that much. Even though his skin looks a little rough.
Jeremy
He's a stud.
Ginger
He is a stud.
Jeremy
Okay, well, those are good updates. This cast can't wait for it to be off. And we gotta figure out Finn's formula.
Ginger
Yep.
Jeremy
Finn's Formula. Maybe we start our own Finn's Formula.
Ginger
After this whole process, I have just been about ready to jump in and create something that's healthy. Cause I'm like, you don't need all the unhealthy seed oils that are like. That should not be the first ingredient that you see. There's some, like, overseas, like European brands, apparently. But then also, the shipping on those is insane. Yeah.
Jeremy
But we can. I mean, if it's.
Ginger
With all the tariffs right now, it's, like, insane. The shipping's delayed, so I'm like, I can't do that.
Jeremy
Yeah. Okay, well, we'll figure something out. So today you're excited about this because this is a blast from the past.
Ginger
You know what's funny? I actually wanted to watch this episode you said we were going to do, the one that you're about to announce. And I don't know if it's Duggar's.
Jeremy
New York Big Family Meets Big Apple. And then there's two episodes. I don't remember if these episodes were shorter back in the day or what, but we should start with Big Family Meets Big Apple. I like it because. And, well, I have a feeling we'll Be pausing this a lot.
Ginger
I'm excited to see.
Jeremy
Okay.
Ginger
One of the busiest times of the year for our family is Mother's Day. Because our mom is so well known for having 17 children, we get invited to a lot of places. This year, our whole family was invited to New York City to be on the Today Show. Dad and I just found out that we're expecting again, and he doesn't want us to tell the children. He wants us to wait until we can tell them life on the Today Show. My mom also was invited to the Peabody Hotel in Little Lake to be the duck master to the honorary duck master. That's two big trips in the span of only a few days.
Jeremy
Is that just fun talking?
Ginger
Sounds like a lot of fun. Moving our family with 19 people in it poses its challenges. Poses its challenges. It's so cute.
Jeremy
Can we pause there? Because here's the thing. We just traveled. Didn't even fly. We went. We drove an hour away for a weekend at the hotel. We had our friend come help us with babysitting.
Ginger
Oh, my word.
Jeremy
We're in a hotel. And even then, the kids did great.
Ginger
They went down so well.
Jeremy
But then, like, they woke. If. So Evie woke up at 2am she was fussy. So then Finnegan wakes up. So then Felicity wakes up. So then we're all up. It's three o'.
Ginger
Clock. We were up from, like, I think it was like 1 1am until I was up till 5. And so we literally didn't sleep the entire night.
Jeremy
So we were sitting there going, okay. Traveling with kids, it's just difficult, even if your kids behave well.
Ginger
Yeah.
Jeremy
Just the fact of it and what Josiah just said is two big trips to New York City with 19, 17 kids and counting. Because they're about to announce number 18.
Ginger
Yep.
Jeremy
But the chaos of that and then going to a place like New York.
Ginger
City, wouldn't you be like, just leave the kids behind?
Jeremy
Yeah. The whole point was to bring the kids to the city, Right?
Ginger
Yeah. So that's so funny because we would travel a lot. We flew all over the place once the show started, and so we flew overseas. And that was. It was common. But also, when you look at it, we had a lot of older kids who were helping out. So it's like we had. If you have one nanny or babysitter with you, that's different. But we also were all responsible for the kid. So we didn't do that kind of traveling when we were all young. We would do a motorhome if we did that. And still that was a big feat. Like, it is. It's a lot. But we also were responsible for, like, keeping track of a couple of the kids.
Jeremy
Right.
Ginger
So that's helpful. When you.
Jeremy
And you had Jed and who else?
Ginger
Jed and Johanna. They were my buddies.
Jeremy
So when you were in New York City, they might get into in this episode. But were you literally like, okay, where's Jed and Johanna? And that was your only goal?
Ginger
Yeah. I don't know about Johanna at that stage. I think she was still with. She was probably still more like with my mom.
Jeremy
Well, who's the 18th kid who was announced?
Ginger
So Johanna is number 16. She's always going to be sweet 16. That's how I remember it. Then Ginny is 17.
Jeremy
So is Jordan.
Ginger
Jordan.
Jeremy
Jordan was about to be announced on the Today show. So. Okay. Yeah. So Johanna would have been. Yeah. Two years old.
Ginger
That's Johanna in the orange right there.
Jeremy
Oh, wow. Okay.
Ginger
We want to take a break from this episode to tell you about Omaha Steaks.
Jeremy
Yeah. You can enjoy USDA certified steaks, juicy hamburgers. The food is incredible. It's delivered to your door whenever we get our shipment. I'm excited about it. It's going to be a good dinner. You always cook good. But Omaha Steaks goodness, it's like the best.

Ginger
That's amazing.
Jeremy
Omaha steaks.com we want to take a.
Ginger
Break from this episode to tell you about Nanit.
Jeremy
Nanit is a smart baby monitoring system and it works incredibly. It allows you to rest easy because it tracks your baby's sleep patterns, their breathing. It alerts you if something's gone wrong. It's very, very helpful, especially for new parents. We're not like ancient expert parents compared to your mom especially. We've only got three at 19, but I know what it was like. I remember what it was like having the first baby and I could not sleep. Yeah, you're so worried. And even now, like Finn, he's a stud, but he's small, you know, he's a baby. So just having that assurance that your baby's being monitored and you'll be alerted if anything goes wrong is really comforting.
Ginger
Yeah. And Nanit is the number one most awarded smart baby monitor, trusted by parents and experts. Over 35 parent expert awards.
Jeremy
Yeah. It's the baby monitor that parents can't stop raving about, with reviews from celebrities, athletes, New York Times, wire cutter, the bump parents. I mean, everybody's talking about Nanit.
Ginger
Nanit is truly one of the baby items we can't live without. And so right now, NANIT is offering 25% off just for our listeners. That's 25% off of your first order with code BABY25. Go to nanit.com and use code BABY25 to save.
Jeremy
That's nanit.com, use code BABY25.
Ginger
This is the story of my family.
Jeremy
Oh, this is a new adult.
Ginger
I'm Michelle. There's Jim Bob, my wonderful husband. And our children, Josh, Jana, John, David, Jill, Jessa, Ginger, Joseph, Josiah, Joanna, Jedidiah, Jeremiah, James, Justin, Jackson, Johanna, and Jennifer. You lost count. That's 17 and all. And I delivered every one of them. There's also one more on the way. We are not a typical family, and it's not just because of our enormous size.
Jeremy
We have very conservative values.
Ginger
Our children watch very little television, and we closely monitor their access to the Internet, among other things. As for school, that happens around the dining room table. To make ends meet, we own several commercial properties that we rent out.
Jeremy
What an interesting thing.
Ginger
Even though we're nine times the size of an average family, we somehow make it all work. I was gonna say it isn't always easy, but somehow we make it all work. I think that's what the intro was for the old show, so they kept some of it. It's weird little mesh. That's Jenny.
Jeremy
How would you like to have a little brother or sister? Wow.
Ginger
Michelle, do you want to tell them the news? Think you just did. Just found out last night. She showed me the pregnancy test. Do you want to show them the pregnancy test? I'm not getting it. No, she's embarrassed.
Jeremy
She came and showed me pregnancy tests. That's so funny. Pluses on there.
Ginger
Which means I have two. One more or two more. Who knows? I'm really grateful to go. I love how my mom after. That's like, after 18 kids, she's still like, I'm not gonna show you the pregnancy test that I just beat on.
Jeremy
That is. I have always thought, like, it's weird to show the pregnancy test.
Ginger
That's weird. I'm with you.
Jeremy
Have we ever done that?
Ginger
I don't. I don't think so.
Jeremy
We've never, like, gone to the camera. Like, look, here it is.
Ginger
I don't know. Maybe we have Watch. Somebody's gonna pull up that clip.
Jeremy
Maybe you have.
Ginger
Yeah, I know, but I. I just.
Jeremy
Our hypocrisy knows no bounds.
Ginger
I just think it's. Regardless, I feel like it's so awkward because it's like, yeah, it just feels, like, gross.
Jeremy
Yeah.
Ginger
So don't, like, hand that to somebody else. It's one thing if you're a couple finding out together.
Jeremy
But I just thought of those videos where I remember one that went viral of, like, the girl shows her husband, and he's, like, devastated because he's like, now we can't have people over. And she's like, what are you talking about? He's like, this is horrible. And she's like, I thought you'd be happy. He's like, you thought you got Covid. He thought it was a Covid thing.
Ginger
That's funny. Oh, my word. I love it. Yeah, I like that.
Jeremy
In that moment. Is that was them breaking it to the film crew?
Ginger
Yeah, that was it.
Jeremy
So there are these funny moments. Like, you know, we've talked about how reality TV can be kind of scripted at times, but like, that, Right. There was a moment of sheer reality.
Ginger
Well, maybe so. They may have told one of the producers before. That way they'd show up and come up there because they have this all set up. So probably somebody knew before, but maybe not.
Jeremy
You don't think he told him, like, hey, we have news.
Ginger
Or, well, then they'd be like, oh, we know what the news is.
Jeremy
Okay, so my whole premise, maybe not.
Ginger
I just always think, who knew? But do you think Scott probably knew?
Jeremy
Do you think. Who's holding the camera? Do you think Rotan knows?
Ginger
I don't think Rotan was filming at that point.
Jeremy
Who would have been filming?
Ginger
They could have been filming. Yeah, maybe it was Rotan.
Jeremy
Was Bart. Was Bart filming then? So you think. But the crew is probably. There have been times. You know what? We broke it sometimes. News. I think we broke a pregnancy announcement to the crew. What's funny is, you'll see, like, the sound guy, Jim Would have been there, Jim sitting there and he'll react like, ah. Or Bill will be like reacting as they're filming.
Ginger
Yeah, sometimes that would happen. So the crew wouldn't know, but like the producer would know. So if it was Sean or Scott at that point, Scott was probably the camera guy.
Jeremy
Oh yeah.
Ginger
Because he was not a producer until later, but he was on the show from day one until later.
Jeremy
So they just broke the news. And then here's the thing, Ginger, I want to get your take on that scene as your mom looks at little Jenny right in the cradle.
Ginger
Yeah.
Jeremy
You have Finnegan who's probably that age now. What if you were breaking the news, hey, we're pregnant again.
Ginger
That's wild. That's just insane to think about, you.
Jeremy
Know, I mean, it was one after another.
Ginger
Yeah, for sure. That's so crazy to think about that, you know? And with that, we have news about what?
Jeremy
January 1st of 2009.
Ginger
New Year's Day of 2009. Mine is the due date. Oh, New Year's Day. Wow. She was born early.
Jeremy
Do you mind starting off telling me why Mother's Day was so hectic the whole weekend?
Ginger
It was pretty hectic and busy around here the weekend of Mother's Day because we were invited to the Today show and so we were packing and getting ready to go on that trip. So I'm closing these things. Well, tomorrow we're flying out to New York. We'll be there for like, we're going to be gone for like three days.
Jeremy
There's Jill.
Ginger
Where you going, buddy? Okay, that's crazy. Even how Jill said that actually remind me of Jackson now.
Jeremy
What do you mean?
Ginger
It's just how she said it, it just reminds me of Jackson. It's so funny. There's the like, you see so many similarities between the siblings. Now that I'm looking back on it, I'm like, wow, that's like. There's a lot of kids who just resemble each other or they talk the same way, they have the same mannerisms, all those things.
Jeremy
So was packing for that, like the difference between you and I is I pack for a trip in 10 minutes.
Ginger
Cuz you pack for yourself.
Jeremy
I pack for myself. You pack for yourself and then all of the kids. And you, you are so thorough and.
Ginger
Think of everything too thorough sometimes.
Jeremy
No, I don't think you overpack. I think maybe in the past. But you, you've got this.
Ginger
We use most of the stuff we take. But yeah, Justin and I would pack for all the kids. And when I say all the Kids, I mean, we would often pack for even the teenage kids, the boys, primarily because the reasoning was we did not want them to wear something that we didn't want them to wear. So as teenagers, well, they don't give.
Jeremy
A rip what they wear. So they'd be walking down, you know, New York City wearing whatever, for sure.
Ginger
And so that's where we wanted to, like back in the day, we would for years coordinate or we would match entirely. So everybody's gonna wear red polos.
Jeremy
That was a thing, huh?
Ginger
And it was a thing.
Jeremy
I wonder if there's other families. Cause it wasn't just the Duggars. I feel like that was a thing.
Ginger
It was a thing to match everyone. But we kind of changed it because then we. So we got kind of a little bit tired of it. So Jessa was really good at looking at the Brooks Brothers magazine.
Jeremy
Yeah.
Ginger
Or she would look at, you know, like a Ralph Lauren thing and then she'd say, ok, how can we do this? Like from stuff we have from thrift store. Or we would shop. So we would shop for the siblings. Jessa and I would go out. We'd see what was the most stylish thing what people were wearing around that time. So that's where we picked out, like the boys clothes. And we try to get them in coordinating clothes so that way they weren't classy looking gentlemen.
Jeremy
All right.
Ginger
At that time, they were. They were doing okay. We've all taken turns having jurisdictions being the laundry room. Currently that's Ginger's jurisdiction right before Ginger did. So those two have it memorized. They know exactly everybody's size and who has what. They know more about that. That laundry room than I do right now. We just put them in stacks. The boys clothes in stacks.
Jeremy
That's just.
Ginger
And then we go through and get one shirt out of each pile and then put them in a bag for a day.
Jeremy
Wow, you guys are organized.
Ginger
That makes any sense. I have to put them in order, otherwise I'll get them all confused. For this trip to New York City, not even including the trip to Little Rock, we had to pack a lot of stuff. So probably anywhere from 80 to 100 shirts, probably 40 pairs of shoes, two pairs per person. Probably 100 pairs of pants too.
Jeremy
Wow.
Ginger
If we relied on the boys to pack their own stuff, it wouldn't get there. So Joseph. But you just never know what clothes he'd get.
Jeremy
That's little Ginger.
Ginger
I said that right in front of him. I'm an organizer. I really enjoy doing that. So I usually get throw Joe under the bus. Poor Joe and I usually pack all their stuff. Do you see how she folded those? Yeah, we'd always do it. We'd roll it or fold it and then put it in a bag per person. And a lot of people think we're twins. We're always doing it together because we always seem to have the same jobs or something or just, like, be around the same area when stuff's going on. We usually try to pack. See how we pack that? All of the younger ones together. Cheap way to fly. So we literally just, like, roll up everything, put it in a Walmart bag, and then, you know, throw it in the suitcase here we pull out the one day's worth of clothes, and everybody's clothes, they're all rolled together, and it just makes it a lot faster.
Jeremy
Wow, that's brilliant, Ginge.
Ginger
Yeah, but I think that what we did was. So we'd go around, like Jess was saying, this is actually brilliant. I should do this more often. For our kids now, even though we only have three. But, like, for a while, we do it individual based on the person and put all their stuff in one bag. But then we started doing it by day. So that's what we did there, I think, is we put. We would just get, like, 10 shirts for Jason, 10 shirts for James, and then we just walk around and put them in piles and have three piles for every day. And then once you have all the clothes stacked up, it's Jackson, Justin, James. See, I was trying to do it backwards. Jason, you know, you go all the way down and you have all their clothes stacked up for that day, all the shirts, you just fold them, roll them, put them in a bag. That's day one, shirts. And then you do the same with the pants. Day two, shirts, and then socks, underwear, all those things we just put in a big bag for them. That way they would have their own stash of things they needed. But, yeah, simplify.
Jeremy
Yeah, it's incredible. It's a great system.
Ginger
Yeah. That was before all the fancy packing cubes, might I add, because now everybody's like, oh, we have packing cubes. You can organize your suitcase, whatever. I don't know if those were a thing, but I hadn't heard of them. And so it's kind of one of those things where, you know, packing cubes have taken over. But that was our version.
Jeremy
Yeah, you were the original. You should have copyrighted it. Dang it.
Ginger
And tired. But I couldn't say anything.
Jeremy
All right, so you've just gotten off the plane. In New York City. We landed at Newark Airport in New York. The Today show sent two 15 passenger vans over to pick us up. Just like in Arkansas, you had two 15 passenger vans, right?
Ginger
Yep. Driver was really funny. He had a thick New York accent. He'd grown up there. And there's Ginger. And so whenever Ginger handed him the picture, too, it was really funny. Wow, what a family.
Jeremy
Wow, what a family.
Ginger
I don't think I've ever met anybody a family with 17. He was really surprised to find out how many children we actually had in our family, that they were all my parents.
Jeremy
That's crazy. The Lincoln Tunnel. Wow.
Ginger
Does that make you Miss New York?
Jeremy
Oh, yeah.
Ginger
Every time. So great. I think our children were very amazed at. There weren't a lot of trees and the big tub. Was that our first time? Yeah, that probably was our first time to New York of life.
Jeremy
Yeah. No one knew you would have gone.
Ginger
Before all those taxis going everywhere. It was quite.
Jeremy
Had your parents been like, they were accustomed to, I don't know, pretty exciting.
Ginger
Just riding in the vans through all the traffic and stop and go. And that may have been our very first time.
Jeremy
Right and left and missing cars and.
Ginger
It'S quite an experience just riding in.
Jeremy
That type of situation.
Ginger
Is it traffic like this in Arkansas? No, not.
Jeremy
There's your expressions.
Ginger
This is every day through the. So I really don't realize, you know.
Jeremy
What'S the big difference between people in New York City and people in Arkansas?
Ginger
In Arkansas, people stop and talk to you. Even in New York City, it's like, I'm going here. I've got this and this and this and this.
Jeremy
Hey, she's. She's not wrong.
Ginger
And if you would like to talk, let's schedule time. People in New York are always like, go, go, go. And it's really. It's really, really strange. It's a lot different from Arkansas. Oh, the Essex House. I remember we stayed there.
Jeremy
What's the Essex House?
Ginger
It's a hotel. Yeah, we stayed there multiple times.
Jeremy
Really?
Ginger
Yeah.
Jeremy
Where is it in Midtown?
Ginger
Couldn't tell you that. I think it was near. Was it near to Central Park? Maybe.
Jeremy
Okay. Was that a thing? Like, that's because there is cultural differences. I mean, if you go across the country, we're essentially like. If you look at Europe and the landscape of America compared to Europe, our states would be countries like. England is like the size of Pennsylvania. So the cultural differences that we even have between, like, Boston, New York and Philadelphia, and then you go to Ohio, and then you go down to Arkansas. And then you go up to Oregon, go down to California, go to Texas. It's like, these are different countries, right?
Ginger
Yeah.
Jeremy
The cultural differences are pretty wide. Did you notice that when you first showed up in New York City, like, you had only ever been in Arkansas. Had you ever traveled, maybe traveled to Tennessee to see the Bates?
Ginger
We had traveled quite a bit, actually.
Jeremy
At that stage, though.
Ginger
Yes. But it was in the rv, so we would, like, take road trips in the RV or in our van, travel to Tennessee, and we traveled to Washington, D.C. prior to that. So we had done some road trips and things. But, yeah, that was definitely one of our first exposures to a bigger city.
Jeremy
And New York's a different vibe, for sure.
Ginger
It is. It's next level. And Jess and I just fell in love with it. We loved it so much. It was like, one of the highlights, probably for us. I'll speak for myself, but I think we both just. We wanted to almost, like, figure out what their. What they. Their culture was and then blend in. So, like, you can't blend in, but, like, we were trying to, like, learn what they do.
Jeremy
Right, Right.
Ginger
So New Yorkers, they just walk fast. And we always. It's funny, even. This was probably, like, after that trip. So not on that trip. But we always wanted to act like we know what to do. So, like, you just walk fast. You don't look at anybody, or you look down, and you're just, like, walking, walking, walking and acting like we were like, we don't want to be tourists.
Jeremy
We hate being tourists. That's the kind of tourists so a New Yorker will appreciate, because the tourists that come in and you're walking full steam ahead, and they just stop and they look up at a building, take a picture like, oh, my goodness. So frustrating.
Ginger
Yeah.
Jeremy
I'm not a New Yorker, but just spending time there, you want the people who kind of get with the flow and move.
Ginger
Yeah.
Jeremy
Otherwise, they hold everything up, and it's. It's frustrating. All right, let's get to the point where you guys are on the Today show because they actually filmed that.
Ginger
Okay. Such a big girl now already.
Jeremy
Okay, you're correct. Wow. So you're on the Today show now. Do you remember this? Showing up to the studio all the time?
Ginger
Yeah. They were always there and so kind. They were very kind. Like, different ones here and there going. They may not agree with us. They're very kind.
Jeremy
Yeah, of course. What do you think the biggest difference is between a live interview for your kids and an interview setting like this?
Ginger
I don't think the children really know any different. I think they are just children and they go with the flow. Live TV is a lot different.
Jeremy
Whose voice is that?
Ginger
They're actually watching you and you can't edit anything out. It's a lie. Can't edit anything. I was definitely feeling can't edit anything out this morning. Today's show. But I was really excited about getting to share with the children that we were expecting. Well, we mentioned that you had something you wanted to say this morning, Michelle. It's a big day, Mother's Day coming up. We have a lot of surprises for you.
Jeremy
But first you wanted to tell the kids something.
Ginger
We're expecting number 18. Wow. Okay.
Jeremy
Shocked.
Ginger
They didn't know my girls watched the calendar like a hog. But we just found out Monday night. Wow. We were keeping. Are you guys excited?
Jeremy
Some of you were like, yeah, look at you.
Ginger
It's hard to find secret around our house. Yeah.
Jeremy
They thought they were going to give mom a surprise, but she gave them a surprise. Well, how did all those like gifts.
Ginger
They'Ve given you kind of, you know, old. Waiting to tell the children that we were expecting was very hard because dad and I would be so excited. We'd be talking and then we'd realize, wait a minute, we're not supposed to be talking about this. We're going to give it away. And so I was really glad to finally get to tell everybody and to see the shock and the surprise on their faces because they really didn't have a clue.
Jeremy
Look at you. Hey, you're wearing the same color.
Ginger
Look at that. You think after this many times, that's crazy. Oh, another kid. We love picking out the names and figuring out whose buddy this one's going to be.
Jeremy
Hey, I've got a question about that.
Ginger
Yes. We have two. Pick out the name. I'm really excited. It was a really, it was a big surprise. It was a shock. We were all very surprised and happy. It was a surprise to me too. It was a surprise to me that the kids didn't know I. And I'm glad that I didn't know.
Jeremy
She's New York. That's New York. She's a New Yorker.
Ginger
Manhattan is a fun place to visit.
Jeremy
But I don't think I'd want to.
Ginger
Live there just because it's such a just non stop action all the time.
Jeremy
Do you remember that moment finding out on tv?
Ginger
I do now.
Jeremy
The time that you met Bill Clinton at the TV show?
Ginger
No, I think that was, that was like in 2019 or something. Yeah.
Jeremy
So that's A. I've never asked you this before.
Ginger
At 16 or something.
Jeremy
I've never met. Yeah, yeah. I've never asked you this before. Would you help pick out names for the kids?
Ginger
I don't remember being the one to, like, help pick out names, but, I mean, we'd all throw out things here and there. But I think I remember Jessa picking out the name for Jordan, if I'm not mistaken, because she. I think it was her, but maybe a couple of the other older girls who liked the name Jordyn with a Y. So it's J, O, R, D, Y, N. And then her name is Jordan Grace Makaya. She's the only one who has four names. I mean, like, it's. It's.
Jeremy
I call her Jay Ordon. She wants to come back on the podcast because, remember years ago when you gave birth to Evie Jo? She was on the podcast me and her hosted.
Ginger
That was so fun. We need to go back and do a. React even to that.
Jeremy
Oh, that would be fun.
Ginger
That would be really cool. But Jessa liked the name. I think it was Jessa because we had a friend who had a kid named Micaiah.
Jeremy
Okay.
Ginger
And she was like, that's beautiful. That would be a great middle name. But they were trying to think if Jordan Makaya would work, and then they were like, well, Jordan Grace Micaiah sounds better. So they just. Out of all the kids, like, Joy is Joy Hyphen, Anna. Most of the time is how they write it. I don't remember if it's legally that way or not. But then Jordan, I think her name is. I feel like It's Jordan Grace MacKay. But see, that's terrible. I don't even know my own sisters out. It's like, legally. But, yeah, they. They help choose that.
Jeremy
Wow, that's very cool.
Ginger
Yeah.
Jeremy
That's gotta be one of the funnest things about having, like, honestly, I loved. You know, when we found out, we were expecting. You start the name hunt, especially when.
Ginger
It'S that many kids and you've used all of the names that you can possibly think of.
Jeremy
Right.
Ginger
You even have a couple duplicates. And so with that, it's interesting because, yeah, like, the twins have the same middle name. And so then you just start thinking about, like, what are we gonna do with that? Also? Okay. So I just. We were talking.
Jeremy
Twins have the same middle name.
Ginger
Yeah. Jedediah Robert. Jeremiah Robert. So I think they did that. Didn't they do that? Jed did that with their twins. The same middle name. You didn't know that. No. Yeah. Jedediah, Robert, Jeremiah Robert. My dad's name is James Robert. And then there's also a James Andrew.
Jeremy
Right.
Ginger
So we have a lot of James. And then my grandpa's name was Jen, so. Yeah, you have all that. Well, anyhow, there was this. This family that we know, and we were just talking about names the other day, and we're like, names are such an interesting thing, because once you start a theme, you have to keep going with it. And our. Our dear friends who go to Bible study, they have five girls in their family, and all of their girls have different names, like, with just random names that their parents liked. But then with those names, they gave each of the girls one of the other sisters names. So, like, it's like Claire, Evelyn, Evelyn, Libby. Like, they. They did. They just switched around.
Jeremy
Wow. Yeah.
Ginger
Their middle name, like all their middle names are one of their sister's first names. I had no clue until two nights ago. And then they were talking about it, and I was like, what in the world? That's an interesting thing. I've never heard that one.
Jeremy
Well, we've done the middle names as a nod to us. Like, your middle name is Felicity's middle name. My middle name is Evie's middle name.
Ginger
Because Evie's not Joseph. You're Jeremy Joseph.
Jeremy
No, we could have done Josephine.
Ginger
Yeah, that's true. But no, her name was already so long. Evangeline Josephine.
Jeremy
Yeah, you're right. I like Joe. Evangeline, Joe.
Ginger
Evangeline, Joe. Because when you're filling out forms.
Jeremy
We did for Finnegan, my dad's first song.
Ginger
But yeah.
Jeremy
Yeah, so that works out.
Ginger
And your brothers.
Jeremy
Oh, yeah. My brother's first thing. Of course. Well, that was probably your first trip to New York, but definitely not your last.
Ginger
Oh, yeah. We ended up going to New York all the time for.
Jeremy
As a family.
Ginger
As a family. For different shows that we were on.
Jeremy
How many times were you on their shows?
Ginger
I couldn't even tell you. We went to the Today show all the time for all different kinds of announcements. And so I felt like New York was our main stop.
Jeremy
Yeah. And so would you always take all the kids every time?
Ginger
Yeah, most of the time. There probably were a few trips. I think there was a trip. I feel like there was a trip where. Oh, yeah, there was. I went on one trip with my mom and dad. I want to say Jessa, and whoever the baby was that was still nursing. We went on that trip. Just like the five. Five of us. Five of us went on that trip. And that was really Fun, too. But yeah. Cause I remember that time we went to a Broadway show because it wasn't everyone going. And we went and saw Mary Poppins.
Jeremy
Wow. Incredible.
Ginger
I remember that.
Jeremy
What a blast from the past. 17 kids and counting. They're all there.
Ginger
Insane.
Jeremy
We are gonna have to watch more of these because, I mean, listen to this. You have Duggar dating rules.
Ginger
Wow.
Jeremy
We're gonna have to react to that one. When big families collide. You know what? The Bates versus Duggar's smackdown. We need to have some of the Bates come out.
Ginger
That would be so fun.
Jeremy
And do a reaction with.
Ginger
Would you guys like that comment below, big time. And definitely tell the Bates kids that they need to come on here.
Jeremy
Oh, yeah, yeah. Tell them. Let them know they're coming on here. Well, guys, thanks for hanging out today. And I hope you enjoyed that as much as we did. A little walk down memory lane for you, Ginger.

The Jinger & Jeremy Podcast | October 8, 2025
Hosts: Jinger Vuolo & Jeremy Vuolo
In this lively episode, Jinger and Jeremy take listeners on a nostalgic journey as they revisit the classic “17 Kids and Counting” episode "New York: Big Family Meets Big Apple,” which followed the Duggar family’s first trip to New York City for the Today Show. The couple provides behind-the-scenes insights, reacts to memorable moments, and draw parallels between Jinger’s childhood experiences and their own parenting adventures today. Woven throughout the episode are fresh anecdotes, honest reflections on growing up Duggar, conversations about travel with kids, naming siblings, and handling family chaos—plus a few humbling tales from their current season of life.
Consistent with their warm, energetic, and self-deprecating on-air personas, Jinger and Jeremy combine humor with authenticity, offering both fond and funny reminiscences about the absurdities of enormous family life, modern parenting challenges, and the quirks of reality TV. Jinger provides clear-eyed perspective on her upbringing, while Jeremy injects his own wry observations as both husband and outsider to the Duggar legacy.
This episode is a nostalgia-filled, revealing, and playfully insightful commentary on family, faith, and fame. Longtime fans and newcomers alike will find something to enjoy—whether it’s practical travel tips for large families, the “real story” behind iconic Duggar moments, or the ongoing realities of parenting young children. Jinger and Jeremy’s candid dynamic makes this “react” episode especially engaging and relatable.
