We have some very exciting guests for you guys. We're super excited to have them on. We have Jed and Katie Duggar.
Jeremy Vuolo
Welcome.
Ginger Duggar
Welcome to the podcast. Woo hoo. Let's go. And not only do they have twins, they had four kids under two.
Katie Duggar
We've known each other five years. So when we look at it like that, we're like, wow, this is crazy.
Jeremy Vuolo
But you've known each other only five years. Five years and you've got four kids.
Katie Duggar
Yeah.
Jed Duggar
Yep.
Ginger Duggar
Realize that.
Jeremy Vuolo
Here's the question. So you guys are four and four years. You gotta keep going.
Ginger Duggar
I remember we watched, I think we watched a video of you doing your solo flight. Was that right?
Jed Duggar
Yeah, yeah.
Ginger Duggar
It was a video of you. And I was thinking, who is this girl?
Katie Duggar
Looking back, I'm like, that was like a different lifetime ago. Now I have four kids. I would not dream of flying my four kids in a small plane.
Jed Duggar
But that's why you have four kids. Cause I watched that video on YouTube and it's on there.
Ginger Duggar
Oh, my word.
Katie Duggar
I know how crazy this season is for us and for me. And, like, if I'm home most every day, all day with the kids, like, I feel the weight of that. And so when he comes home, like, he tries to lift that and carry that with me, like, as much as possible.
Jed Duggar
Now I'm gonna cry.
Ginger Duggar
I do need.
Jed Duggar
You gotta stop.
Jeremy Vuolo
Hold on.
Ginger Duggar
And we're all emotional.
Jeremy Vuolo
Hey, what's going on, guys? Welcome back. Ginger and Jeremy here at the Ginger and Jeremy Podcast.
Ginger Duggar
Okay. You'll probably notice if you're watching on YouTube, that our studio is not what it usually is. And that's because we have taken our stuff in travel to Arkansas. And we have some very exciting guests for you guys. We're super excited to have them on. We have Jed and Katie Duggar.
Jeremy Vuolo
Welcome.
Ginger Duggar
Welcome to the podcast. Woo hoo. Let's go. So Jed is number 10 of the kids. Out of 19, of course. And he is a twin.
Jed Duggar
I am.
Ginger Duggar
Who's your twin?
Jed Duggar
Jeremiah.
Ginger Duggar
Jeremiah. I like it.
Jed Duggar
Yep. I'm the better looking one.
Katie Duggar
But it's your oldest twin, so he has to see all those things.
Ginger Duggar
Yeah. And he might be my favorite. And we'll get into that.
Katie Duggar
The favorite of twin out of the.
Ginger Duggar
Twin out of the two. But you know what? I have to say that.
Jeremy Vuolo
Why would he be your favorite?
Ginger Duggar
There's only. I can only say that because it's okay to say that.
Jeremy Vuolo
Why? Why is he your favorite?
Ginger Duggar
I love Jir and I love Jed.
Jed Duggar
Jir's awesome.
Ginger Duggar
But see, this is the thing. Jed was my buddy. I took care of Jed when he was little.
Jed Duggar
Yep.
Jeremy Vuolo
Oh, so you guys.
Ginger Duggar
He was a part of my buddy back. He was part of my. Part of my group.
Jeremy Vuolo
Did you say until you gave him up?
Katie Duggar
Yeah, she gave him up because he ate too soon.
Ginger Duggar
That was Jana. That was Jana. I took him on. I was patient.
Jeremy Vuolo
You adopted Jan.
Ginger Duggar
I was patient.
Katie Duggar
You were okay. I knew someone gave him up. It was not you.
Jed Duggar
I drove Janet crazy because I just ate so slow.
Katie Duggar
Yeah. So you're the.
Ginger Duggar
One of my kids eats super slow and I've tried to get them to speed up and every time I do, I'm like, it reminds me of Uncle Jen.
Katie Duggar
Yeah.
Ginger Duggar
Auntie and uncle dude. You ate so slow.
Jeremy Vuolo
So anyway, this is serious family drama.
Jed Duggar
It is.
Jeremy Vuolo
It's sad you got given up for adoption.
Jed Duggar
I did pretty much, yeah.
Jeremy Vuolo
I didn't know buddies could give up for adoption.
Ginger Duggar
We had a buddy system. And for anybody who doesn't know that, it's like the older kids would each get a buddy and the girls would. And we would like have these buddies who are little taglongs. And Jed was my buddy and so I would help him brush his teeth. I would help him with his music.
Jed Duggar
School, think like schooling and like violin. I feel like.
Ginger Duggar
Yes, that was the main thing. But when you were little, I would do fix your hair, make sure that you got ready.
Jed Duggar
You would also if you, you know, they would have you guys just make sure all there.
Ginger Duggar
Make sure you didn't get lost in Japan.
Jed Duggar
Yeah.
Ginger Duggar
That's great.
Jed Duggar
It's kind of a big deal.
Ginger Duggar
You're welcome. You're welcome.
Jeremy Vuolo
Wait, but was this like a draft system? Like who would Determine whose buddy is who. And then how many buddies could you have?
Jed Duggar
Well, it kind of went with, like, you had to have the number.
Ginger Duggar
Yep. So Jana. So, like, Jana would get, you know, like, the first kid who was, like, old enough. I mean, who was young enough to need a buddy. So, like, at some point, you kind of can age out of it once you're able to do your own school music, all those things. But Jana would get the first one, then Jill the next, then Jessa, then me, then it would repeat. And I think Joy. I don't know. Joy got buddy.
Jed Duggar
Did Joy get a buddy?
Ginger Duggar
She was a buddy.
Jed Duggar
She was older.
Ginger Duggar
I didn't even know that, but something like that, I guess. But Jana, what are you guys talking about?
Jeremy Vuolo
It's so funny.
Jed Duggar
Well, they. And I think some people think it's like this. That's like, oh, they tried to have different moms in the family. It wasn't that at all. Like, it wasn't that weird. But it was mainly just to keep track.
Jeremy Vuolo
Well, yeah. Cause you got 19 of them.
Ginger Duggar
Yeah. You have 19 kids, you're gonna lose somebody.
Jed Duggar
You're gonna have a lot of things that need to get done until. Unless you delegate it off to other people. Like, I don't think half of us would have had our teeth brushed at night.
Katie Duggar
Lost in Japan, you know?
Ginger Duggar
You would have been lost in Japan.
Jed Duggar
You're welcome.
Ginger Duggar
I brought him back.
Katie Duggar
Thank you so much.
Jed Duggar
I would have married a Japan girl. You know, actually, I did. And we'll have to go into that later, but. Yeah.
Jeremy Vuolo
Hey, so. But, like, did Jana just come in one day and, like, sit you down and go, hey, Jed, like, I've given. I've given you up.
Ginger Duggar
He was a kid.
Jed Duggar
I was like.
Ginger Duggar
He was a baby.
Jed Duggar
A couple months old.
Ginger Duggar
He was very young. Well, he was small because he was eating. No, he was eating baby food. And Jir would eat so fast. Jeremiah's, like, very fast eater. Jed was a slow eater. A little. A little fussy as a baby. He was a fussy baby. And so he would always be crying. And they called Jedi die.
Jeremy Vuolo
You still are.
Katie Duggar
You're still very emotional.
Ginger Duggar
I do, actually, I can say that now that you're older. I never talked about that side, but I am emotional.
Katie Duggar
Spoon feed him every night.
Jed Duggar
Well, I was. I am emotional. I should say that I was more emotional. Like, even at your wedding, I cried.
Jeremy Vuolo
Yeah, you did.
Jed Duggar
You know, I cried at her wedding. I was like, you know. But now, since then, you know, you.
Ginger Duggar
Haven'T shed since my wedding.
Jeremy Vuolo
She was marrying me yeah, that is about right.
Jed Duggar
That's about right.
Ginger Duggar
So, anyhow, we. Yeah, we're so glad y' all are on the pod. This is really fun.
Katie Duggar
Thanks for having us.
Jeremy Vuolo
Hey, so can you give us a current Life update? Because, you guys, you have a lot of kids. You just had twins.
Jed Duggar
We have more than you guys.
Jeremy Vuolo
Yep.
Katie Duggar
Yeah. We just celebrated four years of marriage, and we have four kids, so.
Ginger Duggar
Okay, now when they say four years marriage, four kids, we have to talk about this because this is really fascinating. Jed is a twin.
Katie Duggar
Yeah.
Ginger Duggar
And Katie, do you guys have twins on your side of the family? See, so. And they have twins. Yeah, they have twins. And not only do they have twins, they had four kids. Under two. Right?
Katie Duggar
Two and under for a week.
Ginger Duggar
Two and under.
Jed Duggar
Yes.
Ginger Duggar
Yes. Not under two. Sorry.
Katie Duggar
Yeah.
Ginger Duggar
Four kids. Two and under for a little bit.
Katie Duggar
Yeah. Like, four months.
Ginger Duggar
And true. It's now three.
Katie Duggar
Yeah.
Ginger Duggar
So you have three.
Jed Duggar
Two, two.
Ginger Duggar
And then the girls. The little girls. Okay. Yeah.
Katie Duggar
Yeah.
Ginger Duggar
Crazy.
Katie Duggar
It is crazy. And we've known each other five years, so when we look at it like that, we're like, wow, this is insane.
Jeremy Vuolo
But you've known each other only five years. Five years and you've got four kids.
Katie Duggar
Yeah.
Jed Duggar
Yep.
Ginger Duggar
That's crazy.
Jeremy Vuolo
That's awesome.
Katie Duggar
Yeah. Sometimes it just hits me. I'm like, wow, that's pretty wild. But it's a fun life.
Ginger Duggar
Yeah.
Jeremy Vuolo
Well, we need to get into the how you met story, but where are you at now? So give, like, a little life update for those who haven't heard from you guys in a while or want to get an update on what you guys are doing.
Jed Duggar
Man, we've just been, like, trying to tackle all four kids. Like, it feels like every morning when you try to. When you wake up, it's like, okay, you get the older kids ready, and then somebody else will tackle the younger kids. And then trying to get off to work for me, which is not far. It's. You know, I live 50ft. Yeah. 50ft from the office where I buy and sell campers. And it's like. But it's a lot.
Katie Duggar
It's a lot of teamwork, I feel like. Cause it's one thing to, like, have a newborn, have a baby, and, like, split up tasks between each other, but when you have twins, it's like you're both doing the same thing at the same time. It's not like, oh, I will change them this time, you change them next time.
Jed Duggar
It's.
Katie Duggar
No, we're both changing them right now because, you know, we've got Two at once. And so I think a lot of times now we'll split up. Like, you take the older two, I'll take the younger two. Like loading and unloading, changing feeding, whatever.
Jed Duggar
And true. It's at age he's our oldest, he's like three now. So he's at the age now where I can take him to the office, he can hang out for like three or four hours. He's fine, you know, take him back for lunch. So that's been good. So he likes to hang out and do pretty much anything that's manly. Like, he's all about it.
Jeremy Vuolo
So what are their names?
Katie Duggar
So Truett is our oldest and then Nora and then the twins are Elsie and Emma.
Jeremy Vuolo
Those are beautiful names. Talk about Truett. What a great name. That's a strong name. And you got your boy right away.
Jed Duggar
Yeah.
Ginger Duggar
And everybody's gonna wanna know if it was Chick Fil A. Inspired.
Jed Duggar
I know Katie says it's not. I don't know knew who Truett Cathy was.
Katie Duggar
If we get a lifetime discount at Chick Fil A, we may say, I.
Jed Duggar
Mean, we love Chick Fil A. We do. She found the name and she mentioned it to me. And I always liked Chick Fil A. And the founder, Truett Cathy, you know, just has an awesome story and just a great entrepreneur. So I'm of course, like, just fascinated with him. And so when she mentioned it, I kind of like older names and both of us do. So as soon as we, you know, kind of thought about it for a little bit, it was, we. We liked it, fell in love with it.
Katie Duggar
And the meaning of the name is warrior for Christ. And as soon as we found that out, we're like, that is a solid name. And his middle name is Oliver, which means peace. So like that's, that's a solid, solid name. And he's a solid kid. He's a kid. I love that.
Ginger Duggar
We want to take a break from this episode to tell you about Cozy Earth. Cozy Earth's mission is to transform your 5 to 9, the time that matters the most, into the most comfortable part of your day.
Jeremy Vuolo
Yeah, we love Cozy Earth. We've told you a ton about their bamboo sheets. So I'm going to assume by now that you've already bought those. So now it's time for you to move on to the all day tea and the studio pant collection. They've got clothes, people. They've got clothes.
Ginger Duggar

They're incredible. Yeah, we've had guests come in just last week and I actually sent them home with a set of Cozy Earth sheets.
Jeremy Vuolo
Gave away our Cozy Earth so much.
Katie Duggar

We want to take a break from this episode to tell you about Field of Greens.
Jeremy Vuolo
Yeah. So obviously in our day and age, I don't think we've ever been more health conscious than we are today, but we've maybe never been less healthy. We have so much information coming at us about how to stay healthy. And like me, if you're kind of approaching those mid 30 years, heading towards 40, you start thinking about things like cholesterol. Well, Field of Greens is here to help. This is a fruit and veggie drink that doctors love because it helps lower your cholesterol at times it's going to improve your blood work. I mean, this thing is just infusing health into you and into your routines. I love Field of Greens. I use it twice daily. I take all of my vitamins with Field of Greens. You'll get hooked on this drink, but it's finally something healthy to get hooked on. Jeremy Vuolo
Yeah, you get your money back if this stuff isn't working. But it's going to work. So we're gonna get you started with 20% off and free shipping. Free shipping's a big one for me.
Ginger Duggar
That's incredible.
Jeremy Vuolo
So go to fieldofgreens.com, use code ginger. J, I, N, G, e, R. That's fieldofgreens.com, use code ginger.
Ginger Duggar
Now back to the episode.
Jeremy Vuolo
What does he take after you? I mean, what's his personality like?
Jed Duggar
He is actually more like Katie when she was growing up.
Katie Duggar
Katie was all, you know, he's got an extremely strong will, which has been very hard to figure out. But I feel like the older he gets, the more that I'm seeing it come through as, like, okay, this is a really good quality if we raise him in the right way, which is a lot of pressure. And we pray a ton because we're like, I don't know how to.
Jed Duggar
Yeah, like, you tell him to, like, hey, could you go get your clothes basket and bring it over? You know, just to help out a little bit. And he'll do those things. But then if he doesn't want to do something, he makes sure, you know. And so we've just been figuring out.
Katie Duggar
The balance of, like, he's smart, and so. So we're like, okay, you're three years old. But he, like, just catches on so well. And so a lot of times, it's just, like, coming to his level and just trying to work through things. And every kid is different.
Ginger Duggar
Oh, totally.
Jed Duggar
Well, Katie was dropping off. This is just a great example. We were dropping off a unit at the glass store and to get some glass work done on it. And so she steps out of the car, and she's like, oh, my hair got wet. It was raining that day. And so she hopped back in the car. And Truett knew that getting out of the car, her hair was wet. You know, she doesn't want to get out of the car again. Right. So Truett's back there, and he was acting up, and she said, truitt, I'm have to come back there if you're not gonna obey. Like, and he was just making some noise and stuff. She's like, well, you can't. Your hair's gonna get wet.
Ginger Duggar
Oh, my goodness.
Jed Duggar
That Truitt knows.
Katie Duggar
That's the summary of Truitt right there.
Ginger Duggar
I love it.
Katie Duggar
And I just. Like, you know what? Well done. Like, I don't. What do you say to that?
Jeremy Vuolo
Well placed, sir.
Katie Duggar
Yeah. Respect. Wow.
Ginger Duggar
Wow. That's crazy.
Katie Duggar
I love it.
Jeremy Vuolo
It's cool to see the reflection of your kids, like yourself and your kids. But then it's scary sometimes, too.
Jed Duggar
Yeah.
Jeremy Vuolo
Because you know the strengths they'll have, but you also know the weaknesses they'll.
Ginger Duggar
Oh, yeah, for sure. And you can think through the Things that you would try to get away with, like at that age, you know, and think, okay, how would I have been? Maybe that'll help you process your kids and how they're reacting inside of that age. Because sometimes it is hard. And then also just that ultimately it's a reliance on the Lord just to give you patience and help in those moments. We. We understand.
Katie Duggar
Yeah, daily.
Jed Duggar
But then Nora, she's like the sweetest thing ever.
Katie Duggar
She is.
Jed Duggar
She's.
Katie Duggar
She's spunky. Like, she's got her own little attitude and stuff, but she's so sweet at the same time, which is a lot of fun.
Jeremy Vuolo
Where'd you get the name Nora?
Katie Duggar
Nora. That was like our girl name option when we had Truett before we knew it was a boy and we just stuck with it. We just loved the name, thought it was pretty. So, yeah, we just kept that with.
Jed Duggar
Her and all the girls, I thought. And some, some people don't like this idea, but I thought it was really cool. All the Nora, Emma and Elsie. We don't call them like, Nora's middle name is Kate. And then I just wanted to keep Kate as the middle name. Some people were like, you guys are being real Southern with that. Nora, Kate, Emma, Kate, Elsie, Kate. And my thing is the girls are going to change their last name. Right. And of course, the boys are always going to have their last name. So I always want them to have something from their mom, you know, or just their heritage. Right.
Ginger Duggar
I love that.
Jed Duggar
And middle names, a lot of times they don't mean much. You know what I mean? You kind of change up, you know, you'll have.
Katie Duggar
You don't always hear them.
Jed Duggar
Yeah, you don't always hear middle names. They're not like talked about that often. So I was like, you know, I thought just having something from their mom, so when they're older, they're married, you know, they'll still have. They'll still share the middle name.
Jeremy Vuolo
What a thoughtful guy, this Jen. Look how he married.
Katie Duggar
I know.
Jeremy Vuolo
This is who you married.
Katie Duggar
Yes. He's adorable. Ginger nose.
Ginger Duggar
Oh, yeah, I do.
Jeremy Vuolo
That's his buddy, Ginger nose. Are you getting all teary eyed? Is that Arkansas allergies or is that.
Ginger Duggar
No, I was yawning. Cause I was waiting for you.
Jeremy Vuolo
I didn't know this.
Ginger Duggar
And yes, I probably should be saying yes. I was crying, but I was actually had big yawning.
Jeremy Vuolo
I didn't know if I'm really looking at like, wow, he grows up so fast.
Katie Duggar
It's like the fruit of your labor.
Ginger Duggar
No, silver dollar City. I remember when I brushed Silver Dollar City. Me did me in last night and then I stayed up too late.
Katie Duggar
Long day.
Ginger Duggar
So. Thanks for the coffee, guys.
Jeremy Vuolo
That's really sweet. What's your middle name, Jedi?
Jed Duggar
Robert.
Ginger Duggar
He has. He. Okay. Jeremiah and Jedediah, they have the same middle name. So I think that's also the cool thing.
Katie Duggar
So it's kind of a twin thing too. So like Nora got Kate and then we're like, well, our twin girls need the same middle name as each other because that's kind of their thing.
Jeremy Vuolo
So you didn't want to go Jed for a middle name for the girls?
Katie Duggar
We actually thrown it around. Jedediah. Yeah.
Jed Duggar
There's actually a FOX News contributor or I don't know if she's a contributor or not. Her name's Jedediah. So I mean, we could do that.
Katie Duggar
Whoa.
Ginger Duggar
I did not realize that.
Jeremy Vuolo
Here's the question. So you guys are for four and four years, you're going to keep going?
Jed Duggar
We're just praying about that.
Katie Duggar
We're taking a sabbatical. Sabbatical.
Jed Duggar
Yeah.
Katie Duggar
We would love to just enjoy the kids that we have right now for a good minute and just invest. It's an insanely busy season, the little years especially. Cause we have two infants right now. It's just all hands on deck at all times, 24, 7. And so we would love to just enjoy this season and just really soak it up. And I don't think either of us feel like we're done. Done. But at least for now, we're like, we're good for now.
Jed Duggar
Yeah. I love life right now.
Ginger Duggar
It's so sweet.
Katie Duggar
Yeah, it's fun.
Jed Duggar
And when the Lord gives us a piece about it, you know, I think we both have like a number in mind. Like, we love to have five or six kids. That's kind of what we've been praying about. But we also leave it in the Lord's hand. Hey, Lord, what do you want us for us as a family, you know, if it's for then we're, you know, wherever God leads us, you know, we're just praying about it.
Ginger Duggar
That's awesome.
Jeremy Vuolo
So when you got news of the twins, I mean talk about that because were you said or ginge. You know, Katie's had twins and where's.
Katie Duggar
Yeah, I've got twins on my mom's side. Quite a few sets because the twins come from the mom's side.
Ginger Duggar
We have done this research so many times.
Katie Duggar
The fact that Jed's a twin doesn't have anything to do with the fact that we have nothing, it's wild and they're fraternal, so it's all genetic. So it does come from my genes, which is wild. But our kids will carry the gene because of him. So our kids carry that.
Jed Duggar
Well, no, also, I've been told it also comes from your side too. So the chances of. Normally they say twins can skip a generation and everybody like hair loss, right?
Ginger Duggar
Yeah. I don't know about that.
Katie Duggar
Let's hope that skips a generation.
Jed Duggar
Yeah. Well, but no, they say so it can skip a generation, but technically if we're going off of that, it may not even skip a generation because I'm passing down that gene to my side. She's passing.
Katie Duggar
Girls a high chance of carrying twins.
Ginger Duggar
We want to take a break from this episode to tell you about Herb's House.
Jeremy Vuolo
Yeah, we love Herb's House coffee. Coffee is a big deal in our household.
Ginger Duggar
Oh, my goodness. We love good coffee and Herb's House has been a supplier to the Volo family for a very long time. I love their coffee. I actually just ran out of some and our local coffee shop carries it. So I ran down to grab me a bag the other day because I have to have it in stock. It's just that good. It's quality, family owned company and they are based in Texas.
Jeremy Vuolo
Yeah, they're based in Texas. We've become really good friends with the owners. They have a mission to deliver craft quality coffee that's accessible and approachable. Go check out their website because they have like monthly signups where you can get the coffee delivered to your door every month or you can make one time purchases but you're not going to regret it. Ginger Duggar
Now back to the episode. Whoa.
Jeremy Vuolo
Do you guys have a higher chance of having twins again?
Katie Duggar
Didn't you tell me that 80%.
Ginger Duggar
Oh, my word.
Katie Duggar
The likelihood increases. That's why. Another reason why we're like taking a really good, long, thoughtful pause. Because, yeah, I have met so many families. Because when you have twins, it sparks people talking about twins. Oh, I have twins. Or I know twins. And so many are like, oh, yeah, I had twins back to back. Or twins, like your mom had twins, like nine kids later or whatever. Yeah, nine kids later. Yeah, that's. That's a very common thing. So, like, we have that in mind. Like it could happen.
Jeremy Vuolo
Imagine you guys have six kids in five years. I say you go for it. Just go. Just to set a record.
Katie Duggar
Six kids, five years, some out to la. You guys can go.
Ginger Duggar
Yeah, we'll keep, raise a couple and.
Jeremy Vuolo
Then we'll have to have enough babysitters around here.
Katie Duggar
We do. That's the thing.
Jed Duggar
That's crazy.
Katie Duggar
Yeah, we do have a pretty good setup. Like, God has blessed us with the most amazing support system between, like, my family, my mom, his family, sisters. Like, it's crazy. We are so blessed.
Jed Duggar
Yeah.
Ginger Duggar
That's awesome.
Jeremy Vuolo
What were you gonna say, Ginger?
Ginger Duggar
Oh, I was just gonna say I wanna talk about this logistically because we went to Silver Dollar City yesterday and for anybody who doesn't know, that's an amusement park two hours away in Branson.
Jeremy Vuolo
And talk about nostalgia for you, by the way, you grew up there.
Ginger Duggar
Yeah, going back was super fun. Like, it was a blast because we grew up going there and my parents would take all of us kids. We would like hop in the van or hop in an old RV and drive and fill in.
Jed Duggar
Fill a bag with pickles.
Ginger Duggar
Yep, we'd take a bag of pickles, whatever else. And then we'd take all the snacks and all the things and it was so much fun. We'd spend the day at Silver Dollar City. And so going back and taking our kids there was super fun with a ton of the family. But I will say, when I was looking at you guys, I was like, oh, my word, it is the most impressive thing to see. Jed and Katie show up with their four kids and they have like this long stroller. It's. Well, it's long. It's like. It's a four seater stroller.
Jeremy Vuolo
You need a CDL license to put that stroller.
Ginger Duggar
I think so. I'm pretty sure. And then you also came prepared with baby carriers for the twins whenever they started to get cranky so then by the end of the day, none of your kids were in the stroller? You were carrying twins? My kids were in the stroller. Cause I didn't come prepared. With my three kids, I didn't come prepared. And so they were in your stroller and all of your, you know, your Nora and Truett were walking, and then Emma and Elsie were in the carriers. But I was so impressed because Jed and Katie, they travel all the time. It's impressive. You guys have gone overseas, you guys have gone to Florida, did a Disney World vacation. I mean, you don't let this season of life slow you down. And that's something that's very impressive.
Jed Duggar
Slowed us down a little bit. But one thing we really we purpose to do when we first got married is we don't want. We want to keep things exciting. And also like everybody, I think especially growing up, it's always, I think, and I don't know if it's the generation before, it was like they always look forward to doing things after they retired. Right. It was always after we retire, we'll do these things. We'll go do this dream vacation or something. Right. And I get it. When you're on tight budgets, you do have to be wise about that. You can't just go do something all the time or else you will go broke. But we talked about it. We want to do things exciting as a family. If we have a little bit, we save to side set aside. Let's go do a vacation. Let's do things that's fun. Of course, you do have to have downtime, recoup, you know, business and stuff like that. You can't just go do stuff all the time. But we really try to make a point to travel a lot as a family.
Katie Duggar
And in this season, it's a lot of work. Like vacations. When we come home, we take a vacation from our vacation.
Ginger Duggar
Yeah.
Katie Duggar
Because it's more about like building the memories and having fun with our kids. It's not about relaxing at all at this stage. If we're bringing all the kids, it's just a different purpose for this season. But it's so much fun and we're making memories and the kids may not remember, but we're gonna remember. And they'll look back at pictures and it's so worth it.
Jed Duggar
Yeah. We told a guy came to my dealership and he's like, we were gonna go to Disney. We went to Disney about a month ago and he's like, why would you take your kids to Disney? They're not gonna remember anything about it. And I said, yeah, but we will. You know, we'll remember those times that we have with them. Jed, you are an amazing.
Jeremy Vuolo
He's just such a good husband.
Jed Duggar
But no, it's true. It's like, a lot of people think, well, my kids aren't gonna remember this. But one thing that we keep hearing from people that pass us through Sam's Club or wherever we are when we're out and about, they always say, remember this time. Just cherish this time. It's not as much for the kids. And I think the kids do remember. Like, Truett. Remember Disney? Oh, yeah, and he talks about it all the time. But we'll remember that when we're, you know, 40, 50, 60, when the kids are out of the house. Remember, oh, you know, that time we took the kids the crazy trip to Disney when it was 100 degrees. You know, we'll remember those times.
Jeremy Vuolo
And you also don't know what the core memories are going to be like. We sometimes try to plan our core memories, like, oh, this will be a core memory for the kids. I have the most random core memories as a kid, and I don't know my age sometimes. I was super young. And so if you're just having fun, you have parents who care about giving you, you know, showing you the world and spending time. Some of that stuff will stick, but also, like, each memory's not gonna stick, but what will is that mindset and that environment. Like, we had parents who really wanted to have fun with us and really wanted to. Like what you just said. Katie was really helpful. This isn't gonna be the most relaxing time ever for us, but we're investing in them. So we're gonna go and make this fun for them, which can be really hard work for the parents, but it's worth it. And the kids feel that.
Katie Duggar
Yeah.
Jeremy Vuolo
I was on one of the rides yesterday, so. It's funny. Evie is like a thrill seeker. So Felicity's, like, real trepidatious and kind.
Ginger Duggar
Of like she's very cautious with everything she looks at.
Jeremy Vuolo
And then Evie wants faster, higher, louder. So Evie was almost ready for, like, big boy roller coasters. You know what I mean? So she was ready to go. So I'm sitting there watching her on this ride, and her face is just like. She's experiencing it for the first time. It's just sheer excitement, and I'm the one who's enjoying that. Like, I don't care about the ride. I'm just watching my daughter, and I was wondering, like, I wonder what this is sparking in her. Cause she's very mechanical. She loves cars. She loves trucks. She notices them from when she.
Ginger Duggar
Oh, yeah.
Jeremy Vuolo
Even before she could talk.
Ginger Duggar
It's her favorite thing.
Jeremy Vuolo
It's her favorite thing. And we were doing one ride, which was like an up and down. And it was. You're in a car or something. And she was just fascinated by the whole thing. And so I'm sitting there going, okay, she's not gonna maybe remember this ride. You know, she's four. But I wonder if this is sparking something in her, you know?
Jed Duggar
Yeah.
Jeremy Vuolo
Okay, so the logistical side of. You've got a lot of kids. Can we rewind the tape here? Let's go back five years.
Ginger Duggar
Let's do.
Jeremy Vuolo
Let's go back the Jed and Katie origin story.
Jed Duggar
The spark.
Jeremy Vuolo
Yeah. When did you guys meet?
Katie Duggar
Who noticed? You guys played a part in that. Do you remember that? You guys were there, like, when you were flying. Well, I mean, you were witnesses of it.
Ginger Duggar
Yes, yes, I saw it.
Katie Duggar
Yeah. So five years ago, we had met doing some prison ministry. It was in Florida, which is crazy. Totally different state than either of us lived in. And so we met doing that. And then it was the next month that Jed had reached out to my dad and wanted to get to know our family a little better, because we didn't.
Jed Duggar
And I kind of knew. And this is, you know, I kind of knew how it would need to go for him. So I was like, I know if I was to just reach out to Katie, I wouldn't go anywhere. Right. So I was like, I better reach out to him, go through.
Katie Duggar
You know, every family's different with how they do things.
Jed Duggar
And I reached out. I was like, okay, let's do it. You know how it is the first.
Katie Duggar
Kid to be in any relationship. And so they. He had reached out, and he and my dad talked for a few months and just got to know each other. He's like, hey, I just wanna. He's like, I wanna get to know you. Like, he said that to my dad, I wanna get to know you. You know, with, like, hidden motive there. Yes, smart. Which is true.
Jed Duggar
We became close friends and still are. And, like, you know, we'll talk about. He's all into Bitcoin and just a smart guy. So I got to know him and just. We talked about a lot of things. Common interests. Right. And so he learned about their common interest.
Katie Duggar
Yeah.
Jed Duggar
And then we, you know, of course, Katie was always a part of the conversation. I was like. And I let him know what I Thought of his daughter and the little I knew about her. And when we came out to grab a bus in Phoenix, randomly bought a bus, I actually showed my dad a couple things. First was this massive crane truck. Because my dad buys the most random equipment.
Ginger Duggar
Like, let's go buy this. And he said, no.
Jed Duggar
I literally did. It was like a week before he bought the bus, I saw this massive crane truck. And I was like, hey, you could use this on a job site. I was just looking for stuff to get out there.
Katie Duggar
Yeah. Because that's where we lived. And of course, if you. If you guys bought something out there, you'd have to come get it.
Jed Duggar
Oh, we'd have to go get it. You know, crane truck would take a couple days to pick up. You know, you can't. So. And then after that, it ended up.
Ginger Duggar
Being the bus, and the bus didn't have ac. Let's just talk about that. Because it needed. Oh, my word.
Jed Duggar
Yep.
Ginger Duggar
Okay. That bus did not have ac. Yes. And we decided to ride on it. So that's another part of the story. But because of that, we fixed the ac, though. You fixed the ac?
Jed Duggar
We did. So we had a couple days. We fly out there and. And we're like, okay, so we need to pick this bus up. And then, of course, we were going to stay with the Nikatsus, Right?
Ginger Duggar
Of course. Had to stay for a couple days.
Jed Duggar
To get work for the airport for a couple days. So we show up, Katie picks us up at the airport, and I'm like, okay, I'm going to put on my A game here. Like, you have to put on your A game. And so I mentally prepare myself for that. Hey, you're going to be the most outgoing guy and you're just going to, you know, I'm gonna look good. You know, he has to look good.
Ginger Duggar
Yeah. Oh, yeah.
Jed Duggar
So she pulls up, Hop in. Small talk, you know, I'm in the backseat of her minivan. She has a mini. She had a minivan at that time. That was her first car. So she was already ready for kids.
Ginger Duggar
I mean, aside from kids. She was ready for kids. Aside from this pilot over here flying around. Okay, go ahead.
Jed Duggar
Yeah, so she shows up in that. We hop in, we go to their house and kind of settle in.
Katie Duggar
And so I actually got it mixed up. This was before you even started talking to my dad. This was like you guys just came out.
Jed Duggar
Oh, was it really?
Katie Duggar
Yeah. You called him after this chat.
Jed Duggar
Oh, I did call him after that.
Katie Duggar
So there was, like, a common interest there, but neither of us knew that the other person liked.
Jed Duggar
I forgot about that. Yeah.
Jeremy Vuolo
And how would there have been a common interest? You guys knew each other from the.
Katie Duggar
We had met doing prison stuff, ministry things, and then our parents actually knew each other. But, like, we personally had not spent much time together. So. Yeah.
Jeremy Vuolo
You had just noticed her, and you were like, oh, yeah, this Katie girl. Yep.
Jed Duggar
So after spending, like, a couple days there, and then you guys were gonna come back to go to Arkansas. We're like, hey, why don't you guys come on the bus with us? So Corey, her dad, goes out and picks y' all up.
Ginger Duggar
He flew to LA in the plane, the small plane, and picked us up.
Jed Duggar
Yeah.
Ginger Duggar
And so we had little Felicity, who was. How old was Felicity? She was one. She was one probably. Well, I guess it was five years. Five years ago. She was probably one and a half.
Jed Duggar
Yep.
Ginger Duggar
That's crazy.
Katie Duggar
Yeah. Yeah.
Jed Duggar
So he picks you guys up, brings y' all there. Y' all are hanging. You girls hang out, and then I think we go pick up. We go pick up the bus, get it all fixed up.
Katie Duggar
You were working on it. I remember we went shopping one day. We were, like, thrifting.
Ginger Duggar
That was so fun.
Katie Duggar
And you were. Jed was sending Marco Polos to you.
Ginger Duggar
Yes.
Katie Duggar
Yep. And I was, like, looking over the rack, like, oh, I heard Jed's voice. She's talking.
Jed Duggar
And I really didn't. Marco, Polo, Ginger. That much. But I mean, it's a perfect opportunity.
Ginger Duggar
Actually, to do a lot.
Katie Duggar
We were together. Yeah.
Jed Duggar
So at that point, I had already. I had this feeling, okay, like, this is an amazing girl. If I can snatch her up, I'm gonna do it.
Katie Duggar
Didn't you say something to Ginger as you turned out?
Jed Duggar
I did. As we hopped in the bus, I told. Cause Ginger always told me, hey, let me know if there's somebody that you're seriously about what you were interested in.
Ginger Duggar
Gotta make sure they're good.
Jed Duggar
1. I literally told Ginger. I said, ginger, I think this is the girl for me. And, you know, had I said that before? Probably not to you. So I think that was the first time.
Ginger Duggar
Yeah.
Jed Duggar
But at that point, I was smitten.
Katie Duggar
Yeah.
Jed Duggar
And the rest is history. I literally talked to him, her dad, for a few months.
Katie Duggar
Couple months.
Jed Duggar
Got to know her.
Katie Duggar
Then. Yeah. Eight months later, we got engaged. Six weeks later, we were married.
Ginger Duggar
Whoa.
Jed Duggar
Yeah.
Katie Duggar
Four years later, four kids.
Ginger Duggar
Six weeks later, though, because I do remember the wedding was super soon.
Jeremy Vuolo
How'd she pull off a wedding in six weeks?
Ginger Duggar
That was impressive. That was next level.
Katie Duggar
The Lord and a lot of Teamwork. It was, like, on the tail end of COVID So it was 2021, so it was still hard to get some venues, but we picked it. Easter weekend was when we got married, and so one venue was the busiest.
Jeremy Vuolo
Weekend of the year for churches.
Katie Duggar
Yeah.
Jed Duggar
Well, no church would let us get. I asked so many. I called so many churches, and I was like, can we use your church? Because, you know, we have.
Jeremy Vuolo
They're like, sure. What weekend? Like, Easter. They're going, hey, it's a big holiday for us.
Ginger Duggar
But it was a smaller one, which was so nice.
Jed Duggar
One is smaller. And then the other thing is, we didn't film it, which we got. It was a lot of, like, heat. Not from my parents or anything, but from the film crew, because it was different.
Katie Duggar
It was the first time.
Jed Duggar
You're like, you guys need to film this. And we're like, well, we don't want to film it. And so we kind of stuck to our guns. Like, we just didn't really feel like we wanted to be more intimate. Just have it, you know? So we kept that. That chose a smaller venue. We had to shrink the size down. And I say only 350. That's not very much for a Duggar wedding. Like, yours was probably three families.
Ginger Duggar
Mine was 1200.
Jed Duggar
1200. Right.
Ginger Duggar
I would have probably had it. Yeah. I would have made it a little smaller.
Jed Duggar
Yeah.
Katie Duggar
Yeah.
Ginger Duggar
But I like that.
Katie Duggar
It was great. We loved it. Of course. It was, like. It was perfect for us. And I feel like. I don't know what number wedding this was in the family, but there were so many connections already that we're like, oh, there's already a caterer. You know, there's already someone that knows how to, you know, do this and coordinate and whatever. So we literally just plugged into the connections.
Ginger Duggar
That's the benefit. Let's go. Oh, my goodness. Yes. That's the benefit of having so many weddings in, like, you said, like, even right before you.
Katie Duggar
Yeah.
Ginger Duggar
There are so many kids who are getting married. And it felt like one. One year we came back for three weddings.
Jed Duggar
Yeah.
Ginger Duggar
And then the next year, it was two. And then there was another one where I feel like maybe there was, like, one, you know, but, like.
Jed Duggar
And Jared and I thought about doing a double wedding, but it just didn't.
Jeremy Vuolo
Yeah, because you guys fell in love at the same time.
Jed Duggar
It was. He was, like, six months behind me, I think, or something. But we played that.
Katie Duggar
Yeah.
Ginger Duggar
Get with the game.
Jed Duggar
Let's go. Let's go. It was. It was. Was weird. Okay, so this is being a twin, and you're. You know, I got in a relationship. Jeremiah wasn't. And I know he kind of felt left out there for a little bit, and. Because I'm all, you know, all about Katie. Getting to know her all the time. Yeah. Arizona. I mean, just all over. And then I just really felt bad for him. I was like, man, I hope he finds somebody soon. And then he mentioned to me about Jer would never talk about relationships. Like, he's very private about that side. But when he mentioned to me about Hannah, and I was like, yes, like, Jerry, you should get to know her. And he's more of a private about that. So, like, for him just to go up to Hannah and say, hey, I'm. I want to get to know you, or I want to, you know, or even talk to her was a big deal. But when he. When he started talking to Hannah, which was in December, I believe, and we started talking in April or. No, when did we start talking?
Katie Duggar
I don't remember the timeline, but it was around.
Jed Duggar
It was a couple months. Okay. He started talking to her a couple months after we started talking. It was like, I felt, like, just super happy for him that we're both in the same stage.
Ginger Duggar
That's so fun, you know?
Jed Duggar
And then they got married super shortly after, a year later.
Jeremy Vuolo
Wow.
Ginger Duggar
I have to. Okay, so we're talking about all this relationship stuff. I do want to rewind a little bit, because I remember, I think it was when we were at your house, Katie, that time for the bus trip, and all we watched. I think we watched a video of you doing your solo flight. Was that right? Yeah, it was a video of you. And I was thinking, who is this girl? Because we have pilots in the family, and I have a certain level of respect for them. You never guess it, but I hate flying. I absolutely hate being in the air. And seeing you pilot this plane for your solo flight all by yourself, it was impressive. Probably one of the most impressive things that. I mean, juggling four kids, that's impressive. But flying a plane and having to do a solo flight and remember all the things you remembered. I was, like, very impressed by that.
Jed Duggar
Oh, yeah.
Ginger Duggar
So what made you want to get your pilot's license?
Katie Duggar
Honestly, it was just a time in my life that I was. I had, like, finished up some ministry and some commitments I was doing. I was, like, in an in between stage, and. And I was like, I want to just do something really cool. And my dad had flown small planes since before I was born, so I grew up flying in small planes. I was totally used to it, and so I was just like, you know what? Why don't I just get my pilot's license? It'll just take a few months, I think. It took me, like, three or four months, and I finished, like, right as Covid was shutting all the flight schools down, I finished and took my exams. But, yeah, it was. Looking back, I'm like, that was, like, a different lifetime ago. Now I have four kids. I would not dream of flying my four kids in a small plane.
Jed Duggar
But that's why. That's why you have four kids. Because I watched that video on YouTube, and it's on there. You can see her solo baby.
Ginger Duggar
That's why you have four kids in the description below.
Jed Duggar
Well, when I saw that, I was like, this girl.
Ginger Duggar
Dang.
Jed Duggar
Got her pilot's license. My twin, Jer has his. Yeah. He asked me. He's like, why don't you get your pilot's license? And I was like, no way. Like, that freaks me out. Thinking about flying a plane with people in the backseat that rely upon me not to crash this thing and going through storms and all that. I'm like, no way. But when I saw her do it, I'm like, you know what if I have to get my pilot's license just to get, like, remotely, like, close to her or get to know her, you'll.
Ginger Duggar
Be like, can you teach me how to fly?
Jed Duggar
Yeah. Literally becoming.
Jeremy Vuolo
Yeah. You have to put in 50,000 hours. Yeah, I like it.
Katie Duggar
No, that was. It was a fun thing. Like, I being a mom now, it was kind of like riding the roller coasters yesterday. I'm like, I get a lot more scared now. Something about having kids, it just kind of, like, literally shifts, like, who you are as a person. And so I'm like, I'm so glad I did it, and it was so much fun, and I think someday I'll do it again. I'll go back to it. And, like, just.
Jed Duggar
Jer still asks. He's like, all right, we need to get you current, Katie. Let's go up there. And I'm all for it. So I want her to get up there and get current.
Katie Duggar
I would love to do it someday, but right now, I'm so in mom mode.
Ginger Duggar
Yes.
Katie Duggar
I can't, like, mom can't think about.
Ginger Duggar
That, too, because even the risks of doing that.
Katie Duggar
Oh, yeah.
Ginger Duggar
But how was that, though, doing your solo flight? Because I just think, like, you have learned so much. You've sat with, you know, you've flown with an instructor X amount of hours. And then they're like, take off. Yeah, go ahead and fly by yourself.
Katie Duggar
Like, it was terrifying. It was like, literally the scariest thing I've ever done. But it was also really cool. And, like, what you. You don't see. Like, if you watch that video, you watch and you're like, oh, like, you know, I landed. So you're like, oh, she. Like, it was successful, but I made so many, like, critical mistakes in that flight. The door was open while I was flying. Like, you take a little bit.
Jeremy Vuolo
What's that?
Jed Duggar
Just a little bit.
Katie Duggar
Yeah, but a little bit. That's all it takes. It was latched, but it was not closed. And you can see when I land, you can see it's cracked. And then also when I was talking to the tower, they told me to turn right and I turned left. Huge mistake. It's one of the busiest airspaces in the country. And, yeah, so it could have, like, I could not be sitting here today.
Jed Duggar
But she did great.
Katie Duggar
Yeah, obviously, like, it was fine and God protected me and it was all good. But, like, that's what I remember when I watched that.
Ginger Duggar
I feel like you would just forget because of the. The level of stress that you're under, thinking there's no one up here to take over. There's no one up here to switch the controls over to. So it's all on you. And. And that's just terrifying.
Jed Duggar
And she's talking to a bunch of old guys that use, like, I don't know, when you're talking, you have to say, like, Zulu.
Ginger Duggar
Oh, yeah. You have to use all the words. Military, all the code, you know, like, to the tower. You're talking to the tower and the guy's radio. Like, all right, I'm signing off. Right. And then you go to the next. The next control tower. And then this is. Did you forget your tail number?
Katie Duggar
No, I remembered that thankfully, it's like, written right there, so, like, oh, it's there.
Ginger Duggar
Okay. Gotcha.
Katie Duggar
Yeah.
Ginger Duggar
Insane.
Katie Duggar
So I survived. It was fun.
Ginger Duggar
Well done.
Jed Duggar
Hey, if she can fly a plane in Phoenix, Arizona, one of the busiest airspaces, she can raise four kids.
Ginger Duggar
Oh, yeah, yeah. That's nothing.
Jed Duggar
She's the best mom ever.
Katie Duggar
For the chaos that I experience on a daily basis.
Jed Duggar
Yeah, it's nothing for her.
Jeremy Vuolo
It's amazing.
Katie Duggar
So fun.
Jeremy Vuolo
You are the first sister in law on the podcast.
Jed Duggar
Oh, wow.
Jeremy Vuolo
So. Right.
Katie Duggar
So no way.
Jeremy Vuolo
We've always asked. It's always been like, the brother in laws, like Ben or Austin. Hey, what was it like coming into, like, the Duggar world, like, the filming, all that. How was it for you as the first sister in law that we're talking to? Like, what was it like coming into his world? Cause we were still filming at the time, right.
Jed Duggar
Yeah. So they phased.
Katie Duggar
It was like the tail end. So I was actually never filmed. I was never on the show.
Jeremy Vuolo
Really.
Jed Duggar
It was. And they also phased. So when we started talking, I was running for state rep.
Ginger Duggar
Yes.
Jed Duggar
And they. Because it's political, you have to give equal air time. Right. And so technically, they weren't allowed to film me in the show at all. Like, I had to be step aside for that whole year and a half. And so that was one.
Katie Duggar
Yeah. Reason why the show also ended, like, right when we got married. So, yeah, I never experienced any of that part. But just coming into the large family, I mean, people. I feel like people ask me that a lot because I do come from a smaller family. So it's like, was that a total culture shock? And I don't really think it was because, like, I've always loved being around people. So to me, it was just like another party. And it is like, all the time, there's always a party going on.
Jed Duggar
It's fun.
Ginger Duggar
That's awesome. Yeah. I was trying to think, though, because I know you guys still stepped into the public eye. You were still like, coming out of that side of growing up on TV and then the public eye side. So did you guys talk about, like, okay, if the show starts back, like, would we go ahead and take our kids on TV or would you. Did you guys want to step into the background or do you're on social media?
Jed Duggar
I feel like we had talked about that when we were in a relationship, and I feel like both of us just kind of wanted to take a little pause from it all.
Katie Duggar
Yeah. At least from the show. In that space.
Jed Duggar
The show. And like, we were okay with doing, like, I mean, even now, like, we do a little bit of YouTube. We'll just do. We'll do our crazy life that we have. Like, we like to film it.
Ginger Duggar
I love to watch it.
Katie Duggar
Honestly, it's all about watching it for memory's sake. Like, we enjoy sharing it with others, but for us, it's like, I will go back and watch, like, Nora's first birthday party. Or like, we don't have time to do, like, daily vlogs, but we'll do birthdays, we'll do big trips.
Ginger Duggar
Yeah.
Katie Duggar
Type of thing.
Jed Duggar
And even, like, the birds. Even, like, the birds. That's like one of my, like, it's so. It's so cool for both of us to go back and just remember, like, you know, because when you have four kids, it's. It's easy to forget. Okay, what was that? Birds like? And we, we did film that too. And, and of course, Katie was the one that was good with it and all that. And we're like, we're looking back on those. It's so neat to even look back there and just see. It's almost. I don't know, it's one of the coolest things ever, watching a kid come into the world, you know, and so, like even going back to Truitt's birth or the twins birth or Nora's birth, like just being able to remember, oh, you know, God's miracles that came into the world and getting to, you know.
Katie Duggar
We'Ll go back and watch them, like on our kids birthdays. We'll watch their birthday videos and just kind of.
Jed Duggar
Not that they really care to watch that, but we do.
Katie Duggar
No, they don't. We're just sitting there like, remember that? They're like, nope, three years ago.
Ginger Duggar
That is the cool side of having those things recorded, documented. And also I have to say, because since we live far away, it's really fun for Felicity and Evie to get to watch their cousins. And then they feel like they know the meme even better from those vlogs, from like Joy and Austin's yalls, you know, And I was trying to think of the other one that I was gonna say a couple of other kids, though, who do the vlogs. They've loved watching them. And then they feel like they know those cousins even more because of it. So it's kind of fun.
Katie Duggar
Yeah, it's so fun. We love it.
Ginger Duggar
I like it.
Jeremy Vuolo
Yeah, it's very cool. So what's next for you guys? What's the game plan here?
Jed Duggar
We prayed about that all the time. Like, lord, would you ever have us go into ministry? I talked with you about that a little bit. We've been praying about that too. Would God ever lead us to go into full time ministry? And both of us have a desire for college age ministry. And I think there's a lot in us that just drives us. Like, we, of course, as Christians, we're not just here to live a good life, raise kids, leave the earth, you know what I mean? No. God calls us to be ambassadors for Christ, right? And to, you know, minister people. Minister people that are in. That are in low spots in their lives, you know, to bring them to the cross, let them know who Jesus is. And so I feel like both of us have a strong desire for that right now. We're in survival mode. Let's raise these kids. But, like, still, like, we're not really sure, like, would we ever leave Arkansas and go on the mission field or go to, you know, another state if God ever called us? I don't know.
Katie Duggar
I think the cool thing is, like, we're both open to it. Like, we're holding everything with an open hand. We're like, okay, like, we're not just jumping up, like ready to move, ready to like go completely change our lives. But like, we're open to that if God leads us to it. But like you said, right now we are in such survival mode, we can't literally look past, like, tomorrow we may have ideas of, oh, yeah, let's go do this trip later this year, whatever. But it's literally a day at a time. And I think it's kind of different for us because we both were doing such full time ministry before we got married as single people that now, like, our ministry is our kids. And like, I have to remind myself of that daily because it does not feel like it. We were talking about that recently, like, whatever ministries we'd done before, like, he had done some with like young adults. I had done some prison and jail ministry. We both had done some jail things. And I think like, in ministries like that you have people coming up to you saying like, thank you so much for what you said. Like, that changed my life. I will forever be like, impacted because of like the fact that you prayed with me or whatever. And you know, our kids, our 2 year old doesn't come up and tell us, thank you so much, you're such a good mom. Like, we don't get that feedback from like, as parents. And so I think it can be easy for us to just think, like, what difference am I making? Like, I was so much more useful before and I've struggled with that a lot. And Jed, like, is always reminding me, like, no, like, this is where we are right now. And like, the impact that we're making in our kids, they are gonna grow up, Lord willing and, like, impact many more people than we ever could.
Jeremy Vuolo
Yeah.
Katie Duggar
And so, like, it's okay. It's just different.
Jed Duggar
Yeah. And our ministry is, is to the kids. You know, I think that as a mom, I think it's easier for moms to feel discouraged because, oh, what am I doing? Even if they go to church, I'm not getting much out of the sermon. I'm not. I can't even think straight. I'm just, you know, a lot of moms are in the survival mode, and I have to re. It's probably a couple times a month. Just reassure. Maybe a couple times a week. Just reassure Katie.
Katie Duggar
Just like a couple times a day. I'm like, Mindy, my c. Yeah, right.
Jed Duggar
I just let them know, hey, you're doing a good job. You're right where God wants you. And, you know, this crazy season that we're in won't be Lord willing, you know, five, ten years from now, our kids will be older.
Katie Duggar
Yeah.
Jed Duggar
And hopefully get that teen years where you just, you know, you do have a little bit more time to not. You're not changing diapers 24 7.
Jeremy Vuolo
You know, I just preached Proverbs 31, and it's like such a famous chapter in the Bible, and we think of Proverbs 31 as, oh, this is the description of the wise woman. And it is like the latter half of it is. But if you. I hadn't noticed this, I mean, I'd read it, but I had never studied it. Like, to preach starts out and says the words of King Lemuel, an oracle, which his mother taught him. And so the climactic passage of really, the climactic grouping of wisdom literature in the Bible are the words of a mother to her son. So that's for everybody who says there's no women who wrote any parts of scripture. Well, they haven't read scripture, but it's this mighty king in the ancient world reciting an oracle that his mother had taught him. So she had drilled this into him, and it's profound wisdom. And she's investing and pouring into her son who she cares about. And it starts out with a very simple question. She just asks him three times, what are you doing, my son? What are you doing, son of my womb? What are you doing, son of my vows? And then she goes into urging him, don't marry the foolish woman. Marry the wise woman, and all the beauty that comes in that chapter. But it's the wisdom of a mother. And if you think about a mother, you are not focused on the wisdom you're imparting or the impact you're making on your children. You're focused on, I've got spit up on me. I've got diapers to change. The house feels chaotic. There's crumbs everywhere. The playroom's a mess. Like, all this stuff. But if you zoom out and have that perspective, it's like, honestly, the mother is having a greater impact on her Kids in many ways than the father is. And you're instilling wisdom in them and you're raising these children to fear God and to love others. It really is an incredible ministry mothers have. And it's sad to see in our world so many moms have traded that to go push paper, you know, in an office or something where, you know, for this whatever perception of freedom.
Katie Duggar
Yeah.
Jeremy Vuolo
Not say, I mean women, the Proverbs 31 woman was industrious and worked.
Katie Duggar
Yeah.
Jeremy Vuolo
But the privilege of being a mother, it's a responsibility and it's a high calling.
Katie Duggar
Yeah.
Jeremy Vuolo
It's like a really high quality and it's an intimidating one. I look at what Ginger does all the time and I'm just like, I don't. She's incredible. Like the work ethic, the care, the compassion and the passion, the discipline, the resolve, the selflessness. I mean, it's like being a mother is remarkable.
Jed Duggar
Real deal.
Jeremy Vuolo
Yeah, it's the real deal. And you're a mother of a lot.
Ginger Duggar
Thank you.
Katie Duggar
It's a high calling and I think it's just. Yeah. Not looking for the praise because you're not gonna get it from your 2 year old, your 3 year old, you're not gonna get em patting you on the back, you know, encouraging you in that way. So just like, I think learning to live like without that, without that positive feedback. Cause you're not gonna get it maybe ever. Like maybe when they're older. I think I appreciate my mom so much more now that I'm a mom, but for years, like you're not gonna get that. In fact, you're gonna get, I don't wanna eat that. Or yeah, I don't like this. Or I don't wanna do that. And so it's like, okay, you know what? This is just a different season of life and we're just gonna trust the Lord and thrive in it and you know, grow ourselves. Like, well.
Jed Duggar
And I think you also have to step back too and do things that you love. And like, you know, you have to have few time without the kids.
Ginger Duggar
Just retrace that.
Jed Duggar
A lot of dads feel like when they watch their kids, they're babysitting, you aren't. You're parenting. And so like, I'm not saying I'm perfect at this, but I really do try to give Katie time to just go do things, whether it's with her mom and sister or with other girls. And just like, just like I need to parent those kids. And half. Some of parenting is for her to go out A couple times a week. Do things without the kids, you know, and just her.
Ginger Duggar
And so what are some of those things that you like to do? We know Burn Boot Camp.
Katie Duggar
Yeah, I love it. I love doing that. I take the older kids with me, so we've kind of worked out a system. I go three times a week. He keeps the twins and gets them ready for the day while I take the older two and they have the child watch area, so they're taken care of. I work out for 45 minutes and drive home. So that's kind of one thing we've worked out.
Jed Duggar
She's killing it.
Ginger Duggar
How many camps in are you?
Katie Duggar
Oh, I'm almost to 100. I think I'm at 91 or 92.
Ginger Duggar
That's impressive. That's incredible.
Jed Duggar
And I'll be there for camp.
Ginger Duggar
Let's go. Jed.
Katie Duggar
Yeah, he likes to come for, like, sometimes they'll do, like, free days. I think for Father's Day they're gonna do some open to the public days.
Jed Duggar
And then if I can get other guys to do it with me, I can't go to Burn Boot Camp. Just with.
Ginger Duggar
That's what jeer.
Katie Duggar
The soccer moms.
Jed Duggar
Yeah, Yeah. I gotta have, like, other guys there to like.
Jeremy Vuolo
Yeah, just hit the gym.
Ginger Duggar
You showed up. You showed up to kids. Joy and Austin were like, yeah, you gotta go.
Katie Duggar
Whatever.
Ginger Duggar
Joy said that because we were staying at their house last time, and he showed up, walked in, he was like, no, thanks. He saw his wedding.
Jed Duggar
Bunch of soccer moms in yoga pants.
Katie Duggar
I have admit those workouts I feel.
Jed Duggar
Like I have to wear.
Ginger Duggar
Yeah, right.
Jed Duggar
I either have to wear yoga pants to fit in or just don't show up at all.
Jeremy Vuolo
Actually, I would love to see that.
Katie Duggar
I beg you now.
Jeremy Vuolo
Actually, you know what? Reverse that. Yeah, let's not do that.
Ginger Duggar
That's so great.
Katie Duggar
Yeah.
Ginger Duggar
So workout.
Katie Duggar
Yeah, I think. I mean, that's something that I love. Honestly, if I don't even in this season, like, I don't even know, like, going to Walmart by myself feels like a treat.
Ginger Duggar
That's fun.
Katie Duggar
And so, like, whatever. Just like, little things I'll go out and do or getting some lunch with some friends every now and then. Like, once a month or something. We'll plan something. But Jed is like. He is like, I cannot say enough how grateful I am for him as a dad. Like, people say, oh, yeah, like, I fell in love with my husband, but then I fell in love with him again when he became a dad. But, like, it's next level. When are you crying? Too.
Jed Duggar
I'm trying not to. That's really sweet of you to say that.
Ginger Duggar
He is a good, sweet guy. He has always been sweet. He's sweet.
Katie Duggar
The best.
Jed Duggar
Like, I emotional too.
Jeremy Vuolo
Everybody's getting emotional here.
Jed Duggar
I'm gonna cry about you, Jeremy. Next. I am gonna cry about you.
Ginger Duggar
Jed and I are criers, but, yeah, we are.
Katie Duggar
I think just seeing him, like, because I. I know how crazy this season is for us and for me. And, like, if I'm home most every day, all day with the kids, like, I feel the weight of that. And so when he comes home, like, he. He tries to lift that and carry that with me, like, as much as possible.
Ginger Duggar
Now I'm gonna cry. I do need. I need.
Jed Duggar
You gotta stop.
Jeremy Vuolo
Hold on.
Ginger Duggar
And we're all emotional over here, Ben. Probably in the bathroom. This is.
Katie Duggar
Toilet paper is fine, too.
Ginger Duggar
This is a church office.
Jed Duggar
The counseling center.
Ginger Duggar
It needs tissues.
Jed Duggar
What are we doing? Oh, it's all right. I don't need any of the girls.
Ginger Duggar
It's just the makeup. It's just the makeup.
Jed Duggar
Getting that. I don't even need one.
Katie Duggar
It's good. We'll all take one.
Ginger Duggar
Dab, dab.
Katie Duggar
Keep it.
Jeremy Vuolo
What have I done?
Jed Duggar
There's only three tissues.
Jeremy Vuolo
We'll get more tissues for the next episode.
Katie Duggar
Ginger, it was so sweet, though.
Jeremy Vuolo
Did you see this in Jed? Did you see this kind of sensitivity in Jed when he was your buddy?
Ginger Duggar
Oh, my goodness. 100%. He was always going out of his way to help people. Like, even the elderly, those who are down and out. They were Jed's friend. And he consistently is that guy. He wants to help people.
Katie Duggar
He's the most generous, selfless person I know. And I ask him all the time. I'm like, like, how. How do you do that? Like, how are you so kind? How do you give? How do you like people? You know, he's got all the cars, the campers. He's like the guru on that. So he's got people all the time coming to him for, like, help me with this. Do this. Can I borrow this? And he just never says no. He's like, always giving, giving, giving us. He Should I tell him to say no? I'm like, no, tell them no.
Jed Duggar
Probably the best thing in my life. Cause she's praising me a little too much. She is the one that's really helped balance me out a lot of ways. Cause I think you can be over, like, even your book about people pleaser, right? It's so easy to feel like, oh, I always gotta say yes. I Always gotta be this Persona of a godly person that just can't say no. Like, you think it's almost bad too, but she. I think that's where God knows who we need as a spouse and helps balance you out in that. And I think Katie's exactly what that is for me. Because, yes, it's okay to be sensitive, but you can be oversensitive. Yes, it's okay to be a giver, but you can over give. It's okay to be, you know, these, you know, but you have to say no sometimes.
Ginger Duggar
Yeah.
Jed Duggar
You know, and that's where God really knew exactly what I needed. And this girl, I'll tell you, is one of the most amazing women, amazing mom I've ever met, or my mom I've met, the most amazing mother ever to our kids. And she just pours into them. And, like, I just. Just giving her a break is so important. Moms need that, you know? So I think a big part is just finding a good church where you can plug in together, where you can go out, get that time alone with other young women that are in the same stage as you, that can encourage each other.
Katie Duggar
Yeah.
Jed Duggar
And I think Katie just has a really good group of young people right now in her life just to encourage her and to pour into her and your mom group.
Ginger Duggar
I love that.
Katie Duggar
Yeah, that's so fun. Group.
Ginger Duggar
Yes, we do.
Katie Duggar
Can cry with, laugh with, just feel that, be real. Because, like, we're in the trenches right now. It's a hard. It's a hard season.
Jed Duggar
Well, and then also I feel like pouring in, like, to our relationship with each other. It's so easy when you have four kids, like, we have four kids now to forget about date nights. And it was like, for us, it was a couple weeks ago, probably a month ago now. We just felt like we were in this spot of, like, almost. We were so overwhelmed that you can almost forget about each other.
Katie Duggar
We were just each other in passing.
Jed Duggar
Yeah. It was like, hey, how are you doing? How is your day? And, like, trying to catch up for just a minute or two. And then we totally forgot, hey, we need to have date nights. And so it was like a month ago. We were like, we're gonna make a point. Cause it'd been like two months before that we have even took a night, just the two of us. And so we've this month really tried to make a point. Hey, let's go out. So what we do now is, like, we try for Tuesdays. We used to do Thursdays. But what would happen is Thursday would come around and we were too busy and we'd just not get to it. So now, like, what we try to do is we plan on doing it on Tuesday, just going out for dinner together. And if Tuesday doesn't work, we're going to do Thursday. And so we at least get that time together once a week. Because without that, I think at the, you, the kids leave the house and you forget who you're married to. And there was a friend of ours and it's sad, but they, they raised all their kids and everything. And by the end of it they're like, we don't even love each other now.
Katie Duggar
We don't even know each other.
Jed Duggar
We don't even know each other or we don't enjoy being around each other. And that's one thing that both of us, our kids are second, third place, right? God, our spouses and then our kids. And that's the order we want to keep it in. And like just making time for each other and pouring in that relationship once a week. We're really purposing to like, hey, let's go to lunch together or dinner together. Let's spend that time whether it's, even if it's after the kids are down, let's, you know, talk, watch a movie together, you know, just making that time for each other. Because at the end of when the kids are gone, we're in our 50s, this is the one I want to hang out and spend the rest of my life with.
Jeremy Vuolo
Well, everything you teach your kids falls flat if they don't see it lived. And so you want to teach them to be selfless and love others, but they don't see you doing that. They're going to remember what they see, not what they hear. You're teaching them, hey, find a good guy to settle down with, find a good woman to marry. But then they see the way you treat your spouse and they go, but that makes a bigger impact. And so you keeping each other primary is so valuable. You guys are doing so good. We're so proud of you guys and so grateful for what the Lord's doing in your life. And you're a good example for young couples. And life came at you fast after marriage. But it's so beautiful to see how you guys are thriving and enjoying that season.
Jed Duggar
We make a lot of mistakes. We do tons, but we're learning through it. If we showed all those, y' all be like, you're terrible parents, terrible.
Ginger Duggar
Wouldn't we all, though?
Jeremy Vuolo
We're all, we're all just, we're all learning, and it's the humility of being able to admit and grow together and have each other by your side that's really special. Well, guys, thanks for hanging out.
Jed Duggar
This is super fun.
Jeremy Vuolo
This makeshift studio in Ben's church office.
Ginger Duggar
It works well. Yeah, I like it.
Jeremy Vuolo
Beautiful office. And he's let us take it over for the week, so.
Jed Duggar
Love it.
Jeremy Vuolo
Thanks for hanging, guys. We love you guys.
Jed Duggar
Love y', all, too.
Jeremy Vuolo
All right, guys, well, thanks for hanging out. We'll see you next week.
