Ginger
Our favorite co host, Joy, is back on the pod.
Joy
She's back.
Ginger
Joy. Joy. We have to jump into it. So were we close growing up?
Joy
I mean, not really. We need to get into the why of that. Like why was it that we weren't super close? There's no way that things that we've gone through that we could hold it all together. And at some point you just have,
Ginger
which is why I cry a lot.
Joy
You just have to give it to the Lord.
Ginger
Yeah.
Joy
And say, God, I cannot do this. Now you're gonna get me.
Ginger
Don't cry. Nothing.
Joy
Okay. I'm gonna tell you something that I appreciate about you now that I probably wouldn't have appreciated when we were younger.
Ginger
Hey everyone. Welcome back to another episode of the Ginger and Jeremy podcast. Except for Jeremy's not here. I have my favorite. Our favorite co host, Joy is back on the pod.
Joy
She's back.
Ginger
Joy. Yeah. Good to be back. Welcome back, girl. She's here for a visit and we are going to take advantage of it. We are just sitting right down, jumping in. I picked her up from the airport, we got a coffee, did our hair, which we're going to talk about in a second, and we are jumping on this pod. I'm so glad you're here.
Joy
Fun. I can't believe it. I was Arkansas and then I got up at 4:30 and got here by 12:30. I guess yalls time.
Ginger
Do you sleep on the plane?
Joy
I did. I slept for an hour on the first flight. The second flight I didn't, but normally I don't. It was actually quite embarrassing because a couple times I woke up and I had my mouth like wide open.
Ginger
Were you snoring?
Joy
Hate that feeling.
Ginger
Who knows?
Joy
I. The guy next to me didn't say anything, but maybe he nudged me. Maybe that's what woke me up.
Ginger
But he was like. I was like. I just felt a jolt.
Ad Host 2
Yeah.
Ginger
I just kind of woke up and then, like, close my mouth.
Joy
It was all dry, you know.
Ginger
Oh, that is. I probably was asleep for, like 20 minutes like that.
Joy
Oh, no. But I'm glad I made it. It was so weird flying by myself, though.
Ginger
Yeah.
Joy
I haven't flown without kids.
Ginger
Without kids. It's a different fly by myself. It's a totally different thing. Yeah.
Joy
It's been a long time.
Ginger
That's wild.
Joy
It was good.
Ginger
Well, I'm glad you're here. This is so much fun. So today we're going to talk about all the things. We're going to jump right in, Joy. So, you know, I think we're just gonna have a little back and forth sister talk, because it's kind of the best. Let's do it. So I feel like, Joy, we have to jump into just the reality of how in the world do we stay so close when we live so far away?
Joy
I feel like that it is kind of crazy because we live so far away. But out of all the sisters, like, I feel like I do talk to you the most. And I feel like part of that is because we are very, I don't know, maybe just chill and just. We are who we are, and I feel like we can connect on that. And then we're in the same season of life. And I feel like that we. At least for me on my side, I feel like I can just pick the phone up and there's no pressure to talk to you. But also when we do, it's like there's nothing like there's. You know, there's been no time between our conversations.
Ginger
Oh, my goodness. I feel the same way. It is so easy. And I think that that's part of it, is super fun. Also. It's really cool for our kids. I love their relationships because they are literally so close in age. We just were talking to the babysitter who's here, and how fun is it that she was like, how old are your kids? And we're like, well, they're basically almost the same ages. Your kids are just a little bit older than mine. But, I mean, they all have a playmate, which is super fun. Finn is getting there. I feel like Finn and Gideon, next time they're together, they're gonna probably be more playmate than they were before, but.
Joy
Cause he's super fun. Facts he could keep up with the big kids.
Ginger
Now he thinks he can. And then he runs so fast, and then he just, like plops down. He'll like, face plant into things, run into the wall. Cause he's looking at the kids running behind him. But he does keep up with everybody. So it's really fun.
Joy
It is fun having kids close in age. But I do feel like we make time and we FaceTime a lot, which is. I feel like every time I call you, it's pretty much FaceTime.
Ginger
Oh, yeah.
Joy
And so whether I'm doing laundry or dishes, like, I can just set you there. We can just catch up for a little bit. Whether it's like five minutes or 30 minutes or a couple hours.
Ginger
Yeah. It's so fun. I think that's part of where I was thinking about this for. You know, even aunts and uncles. Like, you think about our aunts and uncles that we had, and they would, like, write letters for our birthday and send us birthday money and cards. And that was the relationship that I had with them because they did not live near us. Most of them didn't. One did. And so it's kind of crazy when you think about that. And then now fast forward to where you can just pick up the phone and I can talk to your kids on FaceTime and have that relationship with them that way. And our kids can talk, we can talk. It's amazing how it really bonds you in a different way even than a regular phone call. Phone calls are great, but seeing that person's face. Oh, yes. Is a totally different thing, you know? Yeah. Especially like, I mean, even Jer's parents, they don't live near us. And so the kids pick up and they'll be able to, like, FaceTime in Finney. Like, Jer's dad was out here for a little bit of time, extended time. And it was sweet. Cause, like, Finney recognized him.
Joy
Oh, yeah.
Ginger
So the other day on the phone, his mama called asking a question about something. And Finn was looking at her. Cause he knows her, but she was not the last one to visit. And then as soon as they showed the phone to him and showed Grandpa, he immediately was like, he smiles, you know, so it's really sweet.
Joy
That is so cute.
Ginger
So there's that different kind of connection, especially for, like, little kids, adults, everybody. I guess it's super fun.
Joy
Yeah. And I think it's so cute because Evie, she always, if. If she hears I'm on the phone with you, she's like, wanting to show Felicity the newest, like, craft. She's made or all the little. Like. And I know Felicity does the same thing with us. Like, I need a dog to enjoy. Let me show her this.
Ginger
Yeah. They all have to sew them.
Joy
Yeah.
Ginger
It's so, so sweet.
Joy
It's a fun way to connect.
Ginger
Yeah, for sure. I love it, Joy. We have to jump into it. So were we close growing up?
Joy
I mean, not really. I would say we were close in proximity, but not, like, relationally. The bond was not really there.
Ginger
It wasn't.
Joy
But we need to get into the why of that. Like, why was it that we weren't super close?
Ginger
Because there was an age gap, and I felt like the age gap was segregated by sections.
Ad Host 2
Yeah.
Ginger
So this is my. Okay, that's your perspective. Why do you think it was?
Joy
I mean, you go ahead and I'll
Ginger
tell you mine, because this is what I'm thinking. I'm thinking it was separated by an age gap of the older kids, the middle kids, the younger kids. And so I was kind of in the older section for many years. The sixth oldest is what it was. So when we would go to, like, political events or whatever we did, I was in the older half. And then I just kind of felt like you were one of the little kids, and you were sandwiched between, you know, a lot of boys or whatever. And so I was like. We also were different personalities. But, like, when I'm saying, when you were little, that's what I remember. Like, you're much younger than me, and it's crazy. Cause you're not, like, you're really not that much younger.
Joy
Is it three and a half years or four?
Ginger
Must be.
Joy
Is it almost four years?
Ginger
Wait, how old are you? I'm 28. Let's see. I should know this. 29? 30. 31. How old am I? 32.
Ad Host 2
Yeah.
Joy
You're Austin's age. Austin.
Ginger
I'm the same. Yes. I'm the same age as Austin. That's right. Because your birthday, you turn December.
Ad Host
Oh, yeah.
Joy
The same month.
Ginger
That's right.
Joy
Yeah. So then we're four years.
Ginger
Okay. We're four years apart, guys. We're, like, really good at math. Really good at math. So that's a little bit of a gap.
Joy
My view on it, because I feel like four years can be a gap. Like, from 10 to 14 is a big age gap, and then 14 to 18 seems like a big jump. But I also feel like we were so different. Like, very, very different as kids. And I feel like I was thinking about this question whenever we were looking over what we were gonna talk About. And I was like, yes. I think part of it is because I was so like, I will not be a girly girl. I will not wear nice clothes. I will not whatever. And anytime we had to go anywhere, it was constant battle. Like, we are going to get Joy out of this nasty T shirt that she's been wearing for three days and she's going to wear a nice shirt and she's going to like, I would always wear the boys T shirt.
Ginger
Yes.
Joy
And so, yeah, this is probably like later, like 12, 13, 14.
Ginger
Oh, yeah.
Joy
Like that age range. Finally about 14, 15. Like I started being giving away like a fine, I'll wear something nice.
Ginger
When you fell in love with Austin.
Joy
When I fell in love with Austin.
Ginger
But yes.
Joy
So I think that that was part of it too, is because you were just so different. Like, I wanted to be outside with the boys. I hated shopping. Like, I would not go.
Ginger
I lived at the stores.
Joy
Yeah, you would thrift shop.
Ginger
Every store.
Joy
And if I got stuck with you and you're like, let me just run by the thrift store real quick.
Ginger
I was like, before you could drive. Yes. Otherwise you would have stole the car.
Joy
That was always the thing. We're gonna go real quick to the
Ginger
store three hours later.
Joy
It was always forever.
Ginger
So I think that was part of
Joy
it too, is we just had very different interests. And I was like, I will never understand why they like shopping so much, but it's grown on me.
Ginger
That's crazy. I actually see that too. And we were totally different people. I love to try to be fashionable. Looking back at what I was wearing, I'm like, was that fashionable?
Joy
I mean, in your eyes.
Ginger
Yeah, but I was trying to dress like a businesswoman. I was like, I gotta like get button downs and blazers. I loved all that. And I still like some of that style, but I tried too hard.
Joy
Well, some of it just doesn't work.
Ginger
Some doesn't work. Some things don't work. It's actually so true. We want to take a break from this episode to tell you about Cozy Earth. So Cozy Earth is a staple in
Joy
our house and in ours.
Ginger
Yeah. What do you like the most from Cozy Earth? What's your favorite product?
Joy
First of all, they're sheets.
Ginger
Oh, my word.
Joy
You actually got me hooked on them. So I came here.
Ad Host
Yes.
Joy
You had them on your guest bed. And I was like, oh, my word. I'm not normally a sheet snob. But these, there's something different about them. They keep you cool. Like they don't heat up with your body and they are so soft.
Ginger
Some of the soft, buttery soft.
Joy
They're amazing.
Ginger
They have 100 night sleep trial that you can try the sheets for 100 nights free and then if you decide you don't like them, return it. And that's amazing. So they also have amazing, amazing beach towels which are great. I've got to get you some of those too because they are fantastic. Anything that we have from them, their bubble cuddle blanket, their pajamas, their slippers.
Joy
Oh my Jerry listen to slippers.
Ginger
Oh, he does. Every single day. So all their products are amazing. They're made from viscose from bamboo, breathable soft and built for summer.

And we have had this leather couch for six years and it is going strong and kids, kids, it's. And you can just literally do the treatment on the leather and it looks like so good. I absolutely love my article couch.

Now back to the episode.
Joy
What, what is your earliest memory of me?
Ginger
Of you?
Joy
Yeah, of me. Or do I. Am I even a memory?
Ginger
I like, I just remember you just showed up one day. You just in your life showed up and I'm like, there's another one. No, I'm kidding. No, I actually, I do. I don't know if this is because of pictures, home videos, but I do remember, like, you just were full of life and so fun, like bubbly little girl and you were so cute and just like squishy Little girl.
Joy
I remember.
Ginger
Cause it just. It just, like looking at Gunner and looking at you, I'm like, it's kind of crazy how your kids can follow even in your happy tendency. Gunner is so happy. He's just the happiest kid. And I think it reminds me a lot of you. And I don't know at what point I actually remember that, but I do remember you being, like, a super happy kid. And then just like. I don't know. I mean, growing up, I did see you in all the different stages, too. So I don't know at what point I genuinely remember it for, like, a memory or versus something that I saw on a video. Yeah.
Joy
But regardless, you're always hard to decipher.
Ginger
I remember you as a dad.
Joy
I don't have a first memory of you, but maybe that's because you were there first.
Ginger
I was there holding you. Yeah. I'm like, joy, you will remember me, like, right as you were born, you know, at the hospital. I'm sure that's what your first memory was.
Joy
I don't remember you. Like, well, I don't. I don't. I'm not a good. I don't have a good memory in general.
Ginger
I don't remember you till probably I was older.
Joy
Like, constantly fighting. I don't know what my reason is
Ginger
about always fighting about clothes. It's probably because I reigned in my memory. Well, this is why. So traumatizing. You're getting ready today, and you're like, oh, no. What is she gonna say? I hope I was not that bad. But you know what it was. You know what it was, though. It's true. I was a close person with Jessa. We were the ones who would pick out all the clothes for the ones who were the. The younger ones below us. We did all the shopping for you guys. Yep. And we did all of the, like, packing for trips. So part of that was. I do remember when we would pack all the clothes up, we would just get a stack and put everybody's clothes in there. We probably did pick a lot of clothes for trips that were things you didn't like.
Joy
Yes.
Ginger
And that probably also was something that was frustrating, traumatizing, because we just put it in the bag and take it, and we're like, all the clothes are packed. Yep.
Joy
This is what you're wearing now.
Ginger
You have to wear, because. Do you remember when we went through the seasons where we were traveling overseas?
Joy
Oh, yeah. We were traveling all the time.
Ginger
And y' all were on the road trip 24 7. Yeah. And you did have your favorites. I mean, I remember this. There's a question. Your denim skirt that.
Joy
Did you ever throw anything of mine away that I didn't know about? Because I know I had some of
Ginger
my favorite, the raggedy old shirts, the vneck boy T shirt.
Ad Host 2
Yes.
Ginger
Did we? I don't know.
Ad Host
Did we?
Ginger
Can't compare.
Joy
And my jeans, it was getting too small.
Ginger
It was. Well, I think I wore it.
Joy
So it was like the ends were. I think the seams were coming apart.
Ginger
There were a couple, but I think it was the V neck T shirts that sometimes were like, maybe. Maybe we could get you in a blouse. Like something like something a little that just has design.
Joy
Something like this.
Ginger
So now that I'm talking about this, though, it comes back on me. Because today, right before we hopped on this podcast, you were in your cute shirt, right? You were getting a cute shirt on. I was like, you came to my closet and all I have in my closet are long sleeve shirts, sweatshirts, button downs, blazers. I do not have any cute summer tops. This was given to me.
Joy
Oh, wow.
Ginger
This was given to me.
Joy
And so I was like, you've got to get more short sleeves. You live in California.
Ginger
But yes, it's crazy. But then now it's reversed because all I have is T shirts that are like very classic, very basic, kind of boxy, not very stylish. And you have all the cute tops now.
Joy
And now I'm boring trying to break out of that box and get some more good summer tops. But you're not boring. I feel like you pull it off with your different style of jeans, different cut of jeans, cute shoes, all the things you make it work well.
Ginger
That's very sweet. That's good. Very, very sweet. So when would you say that, like, we went from sisters just being sisters, like, were gonna exist to, like, being close friends? What was that switch? Cause I think it kind of like. Did you think it happened, like, subtly throughout the years? Like, a little bit. We grew closer in age as certain seasons of life. Like when you guys started dating. I wouldn't say that we were very close still. You and Austin were dating and we had been married already.
Joy
We didn't really ever get deep, like, actual. Just real life conversations, like growing up. I feel like we never really did. I can remember a couple times when we were both dating at the same time. We had a couple, like. Cause we were going through similar things and you talked with me about some things. But I really feel like whenever we came out here to visit when y'. All once. Y' all moved to la. We went to Yalls, one of Yalls old houses. And I feel like that was the first trip that we actually, like, talked and hung out and had fun together since we had been married and had kids. And then I feel like the next year, we really connected over that time. So it probably would have been when I was pregnant with Evelyn and you were pregnant with Evie. And I think that that, like, that trip, it was probably. Was that the third trip we had come out here and then we did
Ginger
a North Carolina trip.
Joy
Yes.
Ginger
And it was, like, over Covid time.
Joy
Yes.
Ad Host
Yeah.
Joy
That would have been the same time. We were pregnant.
Ginger
We were both pregnant.
Joy
Yeah. Yeah. So I think that trip. And then we, like, started the tradition of coming out here every year. And then I think we just stay connected. And Austin and Jeremy got along, which was bizarre to me at first. I'm like, crazy. They're so different. How are they, like, so close?
Ginger
Polar opposite.
Joy
They call each other probably more than we do.
Ginger
Yeah. I mean, just talking about work. I'm kidding.
Joy
I mean, recently, probably, but it's just funny. Cause I feel like we. Yeah, it was definitely slow and subtle, but we definitely got closer, connected. And I think it helps when your husbands are close and can get along.
Ginger
It does.
Joy
And we can come out and just all chill. There's no pressure to go and do or perform. And I think that that's always fun for us.
Ginger
It's refreshing. Yeah. It's so good. Yeah. We love you guys and love having you come visit. And we can't wait until you move to California.
Joy
I mean, y' all are trying to
Ginger
talk us into it. We are gonna convince them.
Joy
If that day ever happens, I will be shocked.
Ginger
Excited is the word.
Joy
You well excited? Well, I do. There are aspects of California that I like, but there's also so much where I'm like. I couldn't picture it. It's not a bad thing, but it's just in and out for every day.
Ginger
In N Out. In n Out is so good. So good. We were actually going to go to In N Out today, and we ended up having to go to Habit Burger. Having to go to Habit. Habit is good.
Joy
Sweet potato fries were phenomenal.
Ginger
They are so good. And I should have got us those other green bean things that are, like, fried. They're so good. But the only thing is, Joy, In N Out is way more fresh with the meat patties. Like, their burgers are way better because they're just. Oh, gosh, they taste better. But we had to do that because Lime was too long. In and out. We didn't have time.
Joy
Okay, I'm going to tell you something that I appreciate about you now that I probably wouldn't have appreciated when we were younger.
Ginger
We want to take a break from this episode to tell you about Trust in Will. So one thing that we did early on after having kids was we set up a living will and trust for our kids because we wanted to make sure that they were taken care of. And it's hard to put all those things in place. It's hard to stop and think about it. But ultimately, it's how you can love your family the most. And so Trust and Will makes it easy to safeguard your children's future with a stronger, smarter estate plan. Trust and Will gives you and your loved ones much needed peace of mind, and it keeps families connected. Through generational planning, you can create a will plan in as little as 30 minutes to protect guardianship of your children, pets and assets, and healthcare directives.

Ginger
We want to take a break from this episode to tell you about Skylight. So we had a situation. This was actually quite the debate. Jeremy and myself. We were not using the same calendars for quite some time. And it was very fragmented, frustrating because none of us knew what was happening on that day. So I would be like, oh, my goodness, I have a dentist appointment. And he's like, oh, wait, I have this work meeting at the same time. So having your calendars where they're visible, where everybody in the family can see it and they know what's going to happen on that day, prevents a lot of quarrels. Let me just say it's great to streamline your calendars.
Joy
The thing that is amazing about the Skylight is that you literally have your schedules all in one place as well as the kids kids to do list or Austin and I's to do list. I can add, like honeydew lists to it as well. And it is so convenient because we can just go in and check, like, who's done what. The kids can check off their, like, their chores for the day. And it keeps all of us so organized and it's less stressful because it's all in one place displayed for everybody to see.
Ginger
Yeah, it's amazing. And Then all the back to school calendars, all of that, it's all in one place because we all know that families are better when they're working together. Right now, Skylight is offering our listeners $30 off their 15 inch calendars by going to myskylight.com ginger go to myskylight.com ginger for $30 off. That is my S K Y-L-I G-H-T.com ginger now back to the episode.
Joy
And I think it's probably something that you've grown into, but I do appreciate, I guess you've kind of changed over the years. Cause you used to be very bubbly, outgoing, like love people. But I think that you've grown over the years and you to an introvert. No, you still love people, but you're more real. And I appreciate that because I feel like there's been, you know, we've all had our seasons and I think as a kid, you don't know like when to be real, when to not, or just open and honest with people about like what you're going through, the hard times, the good times, like all the things but you have now you're gonna get me.
Ginger
Don't cry. Nothing but you have.
Joy
Like, I really appreciate. And I can call you and you can be like, yeah, it's been a really hard day. Whereas before I feel like you would be always positive and you're still positive about it, but you are real. And we can just talk and be honest and be chill and not fear, like, oh, what is she gonna think of me? I'm this horrible person. Like, I appreciate that about you.
Ginger
That's so sweet. Well, Joy, I have to say about you though, because, you know, it's crazy. I think that just seeing. I would say the exact same thing about you. And I don't know what area of this growth it is. I think we, you know, there's so much self preservation that we have to deal with. And then also like, you know, even trusting people in general, building meaningful relationships outside of just our comfort zone, that's a hard thing to do. But I think that I've appreciated. Oh, my mic just fell, guys. I think I've appreciated that in you is just having an intentionality in building community, community even within your church or having a trusted few. And that does build that vulnerability and that openness. But it's not easy still because it's like you have to work for it, you know, But I've seen that in you. I've seen that, that realness. Even in parenting, it's like, goodness. It's refreshing to see even when we're around each other, you know, our kids. Your kids are pretty perfect. Ours, you know, I mean, I'm like, even with the things that we're working on, your kids are angelic. That's what Jeremy always says. Angel. They're an angel.
Ad Host 2
Angel.
Ginger
We all know. That's why we're laughing. But I think just realizing, like, it's humbling. There's so many things that we walk through that I think it really makes me see. I don't. I think that it's easier for us to connect, you know, because of, like, even the growth that you've had over the years, the things that we've walked through. And even together, what we've walked through, I think that makes the bond even deeper. And joy, this is one thing I love about you now that has switched from before, is that you do like to shop and you do love to drink coffee now.
Joy
So we have a connecting point.
Ginger
There's a great connection.
Joy
Thanks for coming over to my side of the world.
Ginger
I still need to go shopping with you, though, because we, you know, there's a lot of things that I need to grow in, which is like, you actually go buy some summer tops.
Joy
We are going to do it. That's what we're going to do this
Ginger
trip, I think, so.
Joy
Tops. But thank you. You're very kind. Feel like we've both grown a lot. Life has grown us up.
Ginger
It has.
Joy
And we've come through on the other side. I feel like we both have stayed soft somehow.
Ginger
Fighting to stay soft somehow every day leaning on the God, please help us.
Joy
But I think that's a lot of it you have. There's no way that the things that we've gone through that we could hold it all together. And at some point, you just have,
Ginger
which is why I cry a lot.
Joy
You just have to give it to the Lord and say, God, I cannot do this. I cannot. And then he sustains us and gets us through it and he gives us joy, which I was just journaling about this. I'm trying to journal sometimes starting, but just journaling about this because I said I need. The reminder of happiness is circumstantial, but joy, true joy comes from the Lord. And it's something that I have to remind myself because I'm like, yeah, my circumstances may not be happy, but I can have joy. And it doesn't mean I'm always smiling, but God can get me through it. So I think that's something we've both grown in.
Ginger
Yeah, for sure. Most definitely. Okay, Joy, some fun questions here.
Joy
Okay.
Ginger
Who's more likely to forget to text back?
Joy
Oh, me.
Ginger
Me.
Joy
No.
Ginger
A thousand percent me.
Joy
No. Okay with it, I guess.
Ginger
You are such a fast texter when you text me. You're like, don't tell all my other friends. You have your life together. I don't tell anybody that I'm such a bad text.
Joy
I literally. You ask anybody back home, I don't text them back.
Ginger
Okay, well, I'm like, I think it's because you're.
Joy
And it's fine. I can say this. You're high on my priority list. And I feel like people. This is also going to sound bad, but like, people that if I feel like there's pressure to text back.
Ad Host
Yeah.
Joy
Then I don't text back. I don't know why.
Ginger
Yeah.
Joy
Or if I'm just really stressed. Like, my texting people back is the last thing that happens. But I. I guess I am pretty good about texting you back, so I'd
Ginger
see you're really good about that. But I'm really bad about texting people back, so. But the problem is, I don't know. If you do this, I'll be sitting there. It's not like I don't want to text them back half the time. If I'm like, well, maybe part of that just like, whatever. But I'm like sitting there and it's 11 o' clock at night and my brain starts racing and I'm telling Jeremy out loud. I'm like, as I'm supposed to be asleep, I'm like, jeremy, I forgot to text this person back. I need to go text him back right now. And he's like, it's 11 o' clock at night. Can we talk about this in the morning?
Joy
Have you not used the text later feature on your phone? Because I'm.
Ginger
Wait, what do you mean text? There's a feature later.
Joy
Austin showed me this. You can literally, on your messages, on
Ginger
your messages, can you mark it as unread?
Joy
Yes. Yeah. No, you mark it as unread. But then if, like I do this,
Ginger
mark it as unread on your phone.
Joy
Yeah. You can mark all of your texts as unread. But then get this.
Ginger
I did not.
Joy
I'm the same way because I don't look at my phone a lot till the evenings. And I will text people.
Ginger
You can mark it as unread. I've never done that.
Joy
It's life changing. But the. Also there's a send later. So you can Literally schedule when to send somebody a text. So if you go into your plus button on your text and then you scroll down, it says send later and you can literally schedule a text. So like at midnight. Later at midnight, I'll say send this at 9am tomorrow and I'll text so I don't forget.
Ginger
That is insane toy you've saved me. Cause I. There have been so many times I've wanted to text people back. Cause that's when I actually think is at night. I don't think in the middle of the day. I don't know why we're doing the podcast now and not at 11pm but it's kind of crazy because that literally happens every single time. And I'm like, I can't text. It's too late.
Joy
Yep.
Ginger
Insane. Well, thanks for sharing that with me. I love it.
Joy
Well, okay, now it's your turn. Who is more likely to cry in a movie?
Ginger
Do you cry in movies? I don't know if you cry in movies. I don't know if we're crying.
Joy
Have you ever cried in a movie?
Ginger
It's embarrassing. Okay, do tell.
Joy
Don't tell me it was Finding Nemo.
Ginger
It was not. I don't like animated movies. Let me just say that I don't like animated movies. I don't. I can't sit through a two hour movie hardly at all. Unless it's like Christmas movie or something. But okay, I'm not a big movie person. Shows, Whatever. Yes, I cried. The last thing I cried for and maybe the first thing I cried in was it was like one of the game shows where people were out surviving in the wilderness. You cried in a survival show? There was like a survival show, I think it was called Outlast. And it was like they made it to the end and somebody was really generous to this person who lost. And I cried. Now I'm like embarrassed. I was like, that's so sweet.
Joy
Well, this is worse. I cried in one of the little kids like audio dramas. One of the guys that they loved in the show left town for good and I was just like, that's so sad because all the kids were distraught.
Ginger
Wow.
Joy
It just hits at random times though.
Ginger
It does.
Joy
But I don't know.
Ginger
Random times of the month?
Joy
Yeah, random times of the month. I don't know what.
Ginger
Maybe I actually cried in last though.
Joy
I don't think I normally cry.
Ginger
You know what though? I don't. If it was just me sitting there, I'd be like, whatever. It wasn't just me sitting there. It was Also, Jeremy. And Jeremy's like, never be embarrassed, Rami. But then he's like, are you crying? I'm like, well, that was just so sad. Am I crying? So it's really funny because I feel like I cry on this podcast almost every single time. But I don't know why I'm not, like, emotional about it.
Joy
Because you're getting deep now. You know what? I used to cry. Anytime I had to publicly speak about somebody, I would always cry. But I also think it was probably, like, a nervous cry, like, in front of people having to talk.
Ginger
It probably is that.
Joy
That's part of it.
Ginger
It might be okay.
Joy
Who's more likely to buy something impulsively? Like, impulsive buy you?
Ginger
Yes, 100%, probably me, which is so good. What is the last thing that you bought that was an impulse buy? You're like, let me just. Let me just Amazon every day.
Ad Host
Every day.
Ginger
What was yesterday's.
Joy
I return a lot of stuff, though. I hate returning, but I buy a lot of stuff, and then I return it because I'm like, I don't know if I like it. I'm very indecisive. So I think I just am, like, I'm going to buy it. If I don't like it, I'll return it. But the last big thing, I bought some Facebook marketplace stuff that, like, I didn't love, but I was like, oh, it's going to go fast. Let's go get it. And then I realized it was, like, a bed frame, and it didn't have all the pieces, and it was really pretty, but it just. Thankfully, it wasn't. I think it was, like, 100 bucks.
Ginger
Yeah. It's easy enough to return. Yeah. Well, I mean, to, like, sell.
Joy
But, yeah, I could resell it.
Ginger
I could resell it on the front porch or take it back, but, yeah, I do.
Joy
I do buy a lot of stuff.
Ginger
Yeah. I don't know.
Joy
Which is surprising.
Ginger
It's crazy, actually. I'm so hesitant to buy stuff.
Joy
Jeremy, he's trying to break you out of it.
Ginger
He tries to break me out of it. But I'm, like, staunchly, like, aware of, like, every little thing that I'm buying, and it's insane.
Joy
It's engraved in you.
Ginger
I will spend money. I will. And you'll see it. It's right here. This is what I spend money on. Right there. Boom.
Joy
Coffee.
Ginger
I just dropped my thing. Whatever. But I love coffee, so I will spend money on a coffee out. I don't feel bad about it. I don't feel guilty. But everyone's all, I do. But like, you shouldn't. That's my thing. Like, that's my thing. And I won't buy summer tops.
Joy
Cause I'm like, I don't know.
Ginger
I'm like, what do I like? That's a summer top.
Joy
Well, that's why you gotta order a bunch of stuff and then see what you like. Don't know till you try.
Ginger
I just need to do that. Maybe that's what we do.
Joy
Tonight is like doing those Amazon like hauls really helped me. Cause I was like, okay, I'm gonna do a haul. I gotta order at least like 10 tops.
Ginger
Coming soon to Instagram. My Instagram, I would be doing Amazon hauls.
Ad Host
Apparently.
Joy
I can do it.
Ginger
I like it.
Joy
It's fun though. Yeah, I buy way too much stuff. And then Austin's like, oh, when did you get this?
Ginger
I'm like, well, let me just tell you. Let me see. I bought it. So when. When is your biggest spending time? When do you feel is the hour that you purchase all of your things at night? Is it in the morning?
Joy
I say that I buy a lot of just like random stuff. I'll add a bunch of stuff to my cart. But it's realistically, like if it's. If I'm going to get dressed and I'm like, oh, I don't have this certain thing and I need this like basics or I don't have jeans that I like for the summer or shorts. I'll add like 10 to my cart and then return a bunch. So there's not like one time of the day. Cause my days are just all different
Ginger
and crazy for sure.
Joy
But I do add stuff to my cart pretty much daily. And then I'll like put it saved to later or I'll buy it like once a week. I'll add it, like, do one big order.
Ginger
You know what I always do? What? This is my toxic trait. No, it's not toxic, but I want to buy stuff. I put it in my cart on like somebody's influencer thing. I see this outfit. Carlin did an outfit the other day and I was like, oh, my word, that's so cute. I love this dress. It was like a, like a floor length, gorgeous dress. And I was like, that is so pretty. I want to buy that dress. I put it in my cart and then I waited. And then I was like, days later, it was on her stories. And I was like, oh, wait, that dress. I was gonna get that. I was gonna wear that on like Sunday. This is a great dress. And then I couldn't find it.
Joy
Oh, no.
Ginger
And I don't know where she got it. Like, what the link was.
Joy
Yeah.
Ginger
And I did the same thing with another friend. I asked her for the link for her dress, and it was like a skirt that turns into a dress, and it has, like, a shirt, so it's a floral, so you can do the shirt as separate, and then it has, like, the skirt. So I was like, you can wear it multiple ways.
Joy
Yeah.
Ginger
I went to get it, and I looked at the price, and I was like, okay, I need to just think about the price for a minute. It wasn't expensive. It's probably like. Well, I say it wasn't expensive. Maybe it was like, $60 for the skirt, 48 for the top. So it was. It would combo together at once. I'm like, it's not that much money, considering how. How not often I don't like it.
Joy
How versatile it is.
Ginger
I was like, you can wear it for weddings. You can wear it for church. You can wear it for anything. The top I can wear for stuff. Very cute outfit. I went back. This was, like, yesterday, actually, because I was thinking about this girl, and I was like, oh, the dress. It had probably been a month. And so I went. And I was like, I'm gonna buy it because I have an event coming up that we're supposed to go to. And I thought, I'm gonna wear that. I went to buy it, and it's out of stock.
Joy
Oh, no. So I was, like, sold out.
Ginger
Sold out. So I missed my opportunity because I. I always wait. Like, I always sit and think on it for too long, and then it's out of stock. Yep. So sometimes I need to be a little bit more. It's not a good thing because I do. Like, I want to refresh my wardrobe, and I sometimes need to just jump on things.
Joy
Yeah.
Ginger
In purchase it.
Joy
It's so surprising, though, that you're that way. I mean, it's not, though, because you were such a big thrifter growing up, like, you're gonna save the money, but it's just hilarious.
Ginger
I am still that way. And I think that Jeremy. Jeremy would say, though, he's the spender. So I think for me, I'm thinking, if he's the spender, I need to be the saver, which he tells me, don't do that. Which is not right. And then it's okay. It all balances.
Joy
Austin. I used to never buy anything, like, even essentials, like, exactly. I need to restock whatever tissues. And I'M like, I'm not going to. Some part of it's laziness, but the other part is, like, that's when I do it. Yeah.
Ginger
Yeah.
Joy
But now I'm the big spender.
Ginger
It's okay. It's okay. It's fine. Somebody has to be. Jeremy would say it's fine.
Joy
Jeremy. If Jeremy says it's fine.
Ginger
Oh, my word. Okay. Joy, what is one thing that you've been loving this week? Like, anything?
Joy
Well, since you were talking about it, all of my summer tops, I have found I love that probably at least I don't have a crazy large, like, selection of clothes. Honestly, I get rid of stuff or pass it to, like, my nieces a lot. But I think probably this top. I have, like, three colors in this top.
Ginger
Oh, no way.
Joy
Super cute. I love that it, like, lays to where you don't have to wear any kind of special, like, undershirt or anything.
Ginger
I hate wearing layers, so. Well, yes.
Joy
And it's super comfortable, versatile.
Ginger
I think I need to buy it. I need to buy that today and buy it in multiple colors. And it looks so cute and stylish. Yeah.
Joy
But it's like a T shirt. But it's just. The top is a little bit nicer, but it's still, like, a little bit dressy. But then it still is, like, the T shirt material.
Ginger
I know.
Joy
Yeah.
Ginger
I used to always sacrifice the comfort for style when I do like my button downs and I feel like 26. You don't have to, but this is so cute. And it feels soft, I'm sure. Feels like you're wearing a T shirt.
Ad Host
Yeah.
Ginger
But it looks like a step up from that Y, so I like that.
Joy
So this is probably something I've been loving. And I have a few more T shirts and stuff that I am. I rotate often.
Ginger
Okay. Often something I've been loving. Let me tell you. This phone case. This phone case.
Joy
So cute. Is that the one that has the wallet on the back?
Ginger
It does. So it has a wallet. They have, like, the little. It's, like, from Wally cases. Can you guys see it? And it has a mag case. Magsafe case. And so you put the wallet on the back, which I left the wallet downstairs. And then it also has, like, a little zipper pouch if you want to buy that. That has the little case.
Joy
Mine's a Wally, too.
Ginger
Oh, yeah, yours is.
Joy
Mine has the wallet attached, though, and it has this. And you can, like, prop your phone up with the little back part.
Ginger
That's brilliant.
Joy
But, yeah, I love walls.
Ginger
The other thing that connects to it too, is the little suction cup.
Joy
Yeah, yeah, the suction cup.
Ginger
Put pictures for, like, doing. Doing whatever, videos, pictures. But I also have to say, the color's been helpful. I always had a black case. Like, almost always, really. I was the first one in our family to get an iPhone. So for when I started out, green,
Joy
or was it just.
Ginger
I had orange. Jessa got it. She got a green one. I had an orange one, and it was the iPhone. 3G S is what it was. And then I always did a black case after that pretty much all the time. Or a clear case. And I just loved that look. But, Wally, look at you.
Joy
Pink, pink. Your pink water bottle.
Ginger
I want this one. And this is not sponsored by them, but it should be, because you do
Joy
have a code with them, don't you? For, like, probably ginger 20.
Ginger
But I haven't actually looked at that, so Try it.
Joy
Mine is something.
Ginger
Try Joy's code. She probably.
Joy
I think it's Joy 10, Joy 10.
Ginger
Try Joy 20. Joy 10. Ginger 10. Ginger 20. Ginger 25.
Joy
I don't remember.
Ginger
Probably one of our names. Yeah. With a number after it. Try it. I don't know if it'll get you anything.
Joy
Yeah, I think it will.
Ginger
Maybe we can finagle that to make it work for you guys. Because these. Honestly, these are the best cases. I gave one to a friend too, recently because they needed a case. Yep. I gave one to Jer's dad. Cause he was looking for a phone case, and he was pretty particular about, like, what he wanted. And I was like, wait, don't get anything. And I wouldn't think to, like, get a dude a case.
Joy
Yeah.
Ginger
But his dad, I was like, oh, yeah, Here's a perfect case for.
Joy
Well, and they're durable. I've literally dropped. I dropped my phone more than my, like, you know, you're normally worried about your kids or whatever. I drop my phone all the time, and they, like, my phone has never broke in a Wally case. The screen itself will crack just cause it lands on the screen. But the phone itself. Like, the protector screen will crack. But the phone itself is great.
Ginger
Finn actually threw Jer's phone. He was going to go on a trip the other day, and right before he left, he. It was like the night before or something. He picked up Jer's phone and threw. Landed on our. Like, we have stone in the backyard.
Joy
Oh, yeah.
Ginger
It landed on the corner of the stone and shattered, like, sections of the screen. And so there was glass particles. But I was like, Jeremy, I think he Shattered your screen. And he said, I think it was my screen protector. So I didn't know. I still don't know because I didn't see. After he came back from his trip, he just got back, so I haven't seen if it was his protector or not, but there was, like, shards of glass everywhere.
Joy
Oh, my goodness.
Ginger
But it matters because, like, with the kids, even if, you know, Finn's won, he gets it and throws it. He has no clue what it is. And then one of the kids threw his phone in the pool just like this was. I don't even know, a couple weeks ago. And it survived that.
Joy
Wow.
Ginger
We pulled it out. He went and jumped in immediately and grabbed his phone, and he put it in a bowl of rice and did the, like. There's like, a vibration thing on your phone, by the way. Oh, yeah. And it gets the water out, so if it's having problems, it'll get it, like, shakes it vibrates it inside. And then the internal stuff, like, I don't know, somehow helps it.
Joy
Huh.
Ginger
So we did both of those things for his phone, and it's been fine. Like, no issues.
Joy
That's impressive.
Ginger
It just sounds like you're in the deep sea when you talk on it. Like, hello. Another thing, though, too, Joy. I. I have been obsessed with Facebook Marketplace, and I know you said that.
Joy
Oh, man.
Ginger
Yeah, I, I, I get on there. Like, I found so many solid wood pieces, especially after going to your house and seeing all the stuff that you have. I've been stocking up on a lot
Joy
of pieces, and you can find some good deals, bargain a little bit if you want to, and normally you can find it within, like, a good radius. I love Facebook Marketplace. That's where we got the boys beds. Evie's whole bedroom set for 130 bucks.
Ginger
That's crazy.
Joy
Solid wood from, like, the 1960s. I absolutely love Facebook Marketplace.
Ginger
It's the best. Yeah. Okay. What's one thing you are taking into this week?
Joy
Does it have to be something deep?
Ginger
Joy? It can be as deep or as light as you'd like it to be. You go ahead.
Joy
Let me think about it.
Ginger
I was gonna think about it. You put me on the spot. I'm just going in. I think one thing I'm taking into this week is gratitude that you're here and that we're able to sit down and do this pod together because it's
Joy
a lot of fun. It is so much fun.
Ginger
And I'm just glad you're here. Like, it's. I don't know, like, Having family far away, it makes me appreciate so much more when people visit because it's sad sometimes, like, you're. You know, I'm missing out on whatever you're doing in Arkansas. I'm like, oh, I wish I was there with you, just seeing everyday life. But I'm so glad you're here.
Joy
It was so fun. I'm glad I was able to come. What came to mind for me, though, is I have really been trying to. After all of the craziness of just life recently, you know, family stuff, I feel like I have been trying to really dig into the attributes of God because I feel like whenever I focus on him and who he is and how big he is, that he never changes. It really changes my focus on everything that we're going through. And so every day, my goal has been to just study one attribute of God, and it's been really good. So that's been something that I've been really, really enjoying. And just. It makes me, throughout the day, like it comes to mind throughout. Whatever I'm doing just keeps coming back to my mind of what I studied that day. And it's been really encouraging for me. So I guess I went a little deeper. But I love that it's been really good.
Ginger
That's so, so good. That's helpful. No, I think it's true. Because it is often so easy to overlook, like, what God's doing in the world and who he is and how great and big he is, too. And I think that that is. It's good for us to remember the greatness of God and all of his character and that he does. He's. He's not like us. He's not. He's not a sinner. He's not broken. He's good, and he does all things well. And I think that's. That's so helpful. That's a good reminder for all of us, guys. Joy, that was deep. That was good.
Joy
Yeah.
Ginger
Thanks for sharing. All right, well, thanks for watching, guys. Please don't forget to like and subscribe and comment below on anything that you would like us to talk about in future episodes, and we'll see you next time.
The Jinger & Jeremy Podcast
July 29, 2026
Hosts: Jinger Vuolo & Joy (Duggar) Forsyth (guest/co-host)
Theme:
A candid and heartfelt sister-to-sister episode, exploring how Jinger and Joy's relationship has transformed from distant siblings in a large, high-profile family to close friends navigating marriage, motherhood, and faith. With Jeremy away, the Duggar sisters get real about growing up together, the challenges of maintaining long-distance closeness, and the lessons learned as adults.
This episode dives deeply into Jinger and Joy’s evolving relationship as sisters—from their disconnected childhood in the massive Duggar household to their present-day friendship as adults. They discuss how personalities, life stages, family systems, and distance shaped their bond, and reflect on the intentional ways they stay connected despite busy lives and physical separation. The conversation is rich with anecdotes, laughter, vulnerability, and practical tips on relationships, family, and personal growth.
Modern Technology as a Bridge: Both sisters highlight how FaceTime and regular check-ins have enabled them to stay close, despite living far apart (Jinger in LA, Joy in Arkansas).
"Out of all the sisters, I feel like I do talk to you the most... every time I call you, it's pretty much FaceTime... whether it's five minutes or 30 minutes or a couple hours." – Joy (05:02)
"Now you can pick up the phone and talk to your kids on FaceTime... It's amazing how it really bonds you in a different way." – Jinger (05:18)
Cousins as Connectors: Their similarly-aged children help cement the family bond, making visits and calls especially fun for the next generation.
Proximity vs. Relationship: Jinger and Joy openly admit they weren’t "close" growing up, despite living in the same house.
"I mean, not really. I would say we were close in proximity, but not, like, relationally. The bond was not really there." – Joy (07:20)
Age Gaps & Personality Differences:
"I was so like, I will not be a girly girl... and you would thrift shop every store." – Joy (09:18)
"I lived at the stores." – Jinger (10:07)
Shared Family Duties: Jinger and older sister Jessa often picked clothes for younger siblings, sometimes causing tension or "trauma."
"We probably did pick a lot of clothes for trips that were things you didn't like." – Jinger (16:06)
Inflection Points: Major life changes—like both sisters marrying and then becoming mothers—slowly shifted their dynamic to one of genuine friendship.
"I feel like that was the first trip that we actually talked and hung out and had fun together since we had been married and had kids." – Joy (18:39)
Husband Friendships: Jeremy and Austin’s unexpected camaraderie also helps the sisters stay connected.
"Austin and Jeremy got along, which was bizarre to me at first... they call each other probably more than we do." – Joy (19:31)
Becoming More Real with Each Other: Both express appreciation for how they've grown more open and authentic as adults, able to share struggles instead of maintaining a facade of positivity.
"You used to be very bubbly, outgoing... but you're more real. And I appreciate that." – Joy (23:59)
"There's no way that the things that we've gone through that we could hold it all together. And at some point, you just have to give it to the Lord." – Joy (27:35) "Happiness is circumstantial, but true joy comes from the Lord." – Joy (27:51)
Faith as an Anchor: Surrendering hardships to God and focusing on spiritual growth, especially in challenging seasons, binds them deeply.
Rapid Fire Q&A (28:22–36:26):
Shopping & Style Evolution:
"Now it’s reversed because all I have are T-shirts... and you have all the cute tops now." – Jinger (17:38)
Favorite Purchases & Obsessions:
"Every day, my goal has been to just study one attribute of God, and it's been really good." – Joy (46:08)
On Childhood Distance:
"We were close in proximity, but not, like, relationally. The bond was not really there." – Joy (07:20)
On Personality Differences:
"I wanted to be outside with the boys. I hated shopping... and you thrift shopped every store." – Joy (09:55)
"I was trying to dress like a businesswoman... I tried too hard." – Jinger (10:34)
On Adult Friendship:
"It was definitely slow and subtle, but we definitely got closer, connected. And I think it helps when your husbands are close and can get along." – Joy (19:59)
On Vulnerability:
"But you have... Like, I really appreciate... we can just talk and be honest and be chill and not fear, like, 'Oh, what is she gonna think of me?'" – Joy (24:43)
On Survival & Faith:
"Fighting to stay soft somehow, every day leaning on God, please help us." – Jinger (27:30)
"There's no way that the things that we've gone through that we could hold it all together. You just have to give it to the Lord." – Joy (27:35)
On Parenting:
"I've seen that in you, that realness... Even in parenting... It's humbling." – Jinger (25:03)
The conversation is lively, candid, often humorous, and deeply sincere. The sisters are comfortable with vulnerability, balancing humor about shopping habits and sibling quirks with honest discussions on faith and resilience. The tone is warm, playful, and supportive—making it relatable for listeners whether they are longtime fans or newcomers.
This episode offers an intimate portrait of adult sisterhood, marked by honesty, fun, and faith. Jinger and Joy show how even relationships marked by distance and difference can blossom into sources of deep connection and encouragement with intention and growth. Their reflections on childhood, family dynamics, faith, and friendship will resonate with listeners navigating their own sibling bonds or seeking to stay close to loved ones while juggling life’s demands.
