DJ Pre K
What it do, Wolf Pack? It's your boy, DJ Pre K with the John Clay Wolf Show. Sorry, I got a short one for y' all today. I gotta get ready for the big bike rally we're having down in Walnut Springs this weekend. But I brought an archive banger to the party. Originally, John said no can do to Haulin Notes, but really he was keeping a private eye on their career. You see what I did there? But after the concert, John thought to himself, hey, I know that guy. And just remember, you can rely on that wolfman. Funny. Check it out.
Unnamed Speaker
Nope. There, I'm up. So why am I playing this?
John Clay Wolf
Oh, somebody leave you?
Unnamed Speaker
I finally went and saw Haul and Oats this week.
John Clay Wolf
Oh, did you go?
Unnamed Speaker
Yeah.
John Clay Wolf
Did you like them?
Unnamed Speaker
I loved them.
John Clay Wolf
They're so badass live. Dude. People don't know.
Unnamed Speaker
They have no idea how good they are live. I had no idea how good they were alive.
John Clay Wolf
That.
Unnamed Speaker
That is a really, really. If you like classic rock or whatever this is called, Is this rock?
John Clay Wolf
It's classic rock.
Unnamed Speaker
It's classic pop.
John Clay Wolf
There's a bit of Allman Brothers in those. In Daryl Hall. And John Oats, man, they jam that stuff out.
Unnamed Speaker
Oh, y.
John Clay Wolf
There's a very bluesy side to them that people have no idea about. They're thinking Private Eyes, you know.
Unnamed Speaker
Yeah.
John Clay Wolf
And it's not.
Unnamed Speaker
No, it is that too.
John Clay Wolf
Well, it is that too. But it's not just that, man.
Unnamed Speaker
But they ease into you, you know, when you get there, you're like, okay, it's gonna be what I thought. And then about mid show, you're like, that's a little better than I thought. And at the end of the show, you're like, this is one of the best concerts I've ever been to in my life. Yeah, that's how they end it. Yeah, the whole crowd is going nuts. They're really, really good. But little John Oates, you know, little man syndrome, I think on his contract, on the redo, he's like, I'm going to get showcased properly on this one. Because the camera's on him a lot. He has more vocals. It's staging him as an equal to Darrell way more than they did in the 80s.
John Clay Wolf
You know, I've been seeing them since the late 90s and, like, they've always done the live show that way. Okay. But when they went into the Rock and Roll hall of Fame, coolest thing John Oates ever did, he said. The first thing he said is said, you know, I realize I'm the highest paid background singer ever. And he kind of is in the recorded versions, sure. But this is him singing live at the first part of the song.
Unnamed Speaker
When I was in seventh grade on a ski lift, sitting next to this guy. My mom just moved to Colorado and I'm skiing with this guy all morning. It's just he and I. And he's 30 something years old and we're talking and, you know, just normal. He's a little guy with. With poodle ish, like black hair.
John Clay Wolf
Okay.
Unnamed Speaker
And, you know, I'm like, what do you do? And this and that and Hell of a skier, by the way. And he's like, I'm, you know, I play guitar. And we keep talking next round, like. Like, where do you play guitar? Like, he's in New York City with a band. Like, what's the name of the band?
John Clay Wolf
Right?
Unnamed Speaker
I said, have I heard of him? He's like, hall and Oates. I'm like, you're the little dude from Holland Oats. Did you really say that? I did not say you're the little dude from Holland Oats, but I'm in seventh grade and I was big than he was, right? He's a little guy. He's a little guy. He's a skiing son of a. Because he's only three feet tall, so he.
John Clay Wolf
I mean, you know, low center of gravity.
Unnamed Speaker
Have you ever seen the dog they strap on? I mean, the monkey they strap on? The dog in the rodeo? Yes, of course. He's like that guy. Not that small. He's pretty small. He's a little guy. He's a little guy. 8008-0072-3480-0800 radio. So a great, great, great show. What's your commentary? Why do you. Why do you call us this morning?
John Clay Wolf
Oh, man.
Unnamed Caller
I was calling about the hall of notes that you went and saw. I just wanted to tell you that I'm. I'm real. I'm really not surprised that you. You really enjoyed the show. And the. The reason is because there's. There's only two types of people in this world. The first type is people who, who love hollow notes. The second type are liars.
Unnamed Speaker
Oh, it's just like what the guy told me at the feed store when I was a little kid.
John Clay Wolf
What's that?
Unnamed Speaker
There's two types of people out there, those who admit to doing it and those who lie about it. When I say it, you're just going to fill in the blanks.
