John Clay Wolf
The John Clay Wolf show has appeared on terrestrial radio for a really, really, really long time. So we dug into our pockets, and on the other side of our. We found something funny. And, yes, it's contagious. Gather round as the wolf pack goes on this throwback adventure.
DJ Pre K
What it do? It's your boy DJ Pre K with the John Clay Wolf show hanging out in the archives. And today we going to the strip club. Ay, but we ain't staying. We taking these hoes to the rodeo. John's getting the VIP treatment, but he's got some questions. And turns out fathers everywhere are asking their sons for just a bit of help. So pull up the Rolls and load up the hoes. And check this out.
Storyteller
We were talking about the radio. I mean, the rodeo in Fort Worth last week and talking about the culture of the rodeo and how it's a big deal here and. And it's like Mardi Gras New Orleans and these different things. But it got me to thinking, and this. This story you just read got me to thinking.
Listener
Sure.
Storyteller
My best rodeo story was, how old was I? 19. I'd have been 18. Still in high school. My dad says, get your grandmother's car. Meet me down here. We're going to the rodeo. Okay. My grandmother had a Rolls.
Listener
Yes.
Storyteller
So I get my grandmother's car, and I go pick up dad, and we go and we pick up these gals. Strippers?
Gigi
Sure.
Storyteller
Why sure? That doesn't make sense. That's not good parenting.
Business User
Well, but when you said your dad.
Listener
In those days in limo. I'm sorry, I was following along.
Storyteller
It's my father. I'm in high school. Sure. Yeah. Great. Sex workers, right? So. Exactly. So I have a girlfriend at the time. And they're obviously. They're probably in their early 20s. And we have a box throat here, which is, like, sitting up front where everybody can see. And I'm like, this is just not gonna go good. This is gonna be a problem.
Listener
A lot of people will see you.
Storyteller
Yes, dad, with these. They look great. I mean, they didn't look like strippers, but they were strippers. But it was. I was just thinking about that. I mean, it Was. What in the hell was my father thinking to bring me on a double date with a couple of strippers and my grandmother's Rolls Royce to the rodeo.
Listener
At a very, very high profile place? Yes. All your friends are gonna see you.
Storyteller
What the hell?
Listener
Did you ever ask dad? What are we trying to prove here?
Storyteller
No, I wasn't that slick, but I did say, hey, man. I mean, I was dodging and I was ducking, and I was like, this isn't my bag. I mean, your stripper world. Because at that time, he had lost a lot of money. My sister had passed away, and he had gotten divorced. So he was over at the damn strip clubs all the time, giving him the. Giving them the rest of the money that he had left, or didn't even have left. It was a pretty sad state, to tell you the truth.
Business User
So you were seeing your money being spent, basically. Future inheritance.
Storyteller
I think I was seeing my grandmother's money.
Business User
I'm not saying that.
Storyteller
Yeah, no, my money was gone. The money that my grandmother had left is what I was watching him go through, and I was like, this is just ridiculous.
John Clay Wolf
Wow.
Listener
Did you guys stay for the whole thing? Was there any fallout?
Storyteller
No, no, no, no. There was no hookup, and there was no. There was none of that. But it was just like, what? I mean, at the age I'm at now with three sons, one's 15. Let's say I wasn't married to my son's mother, Would I take him to the rodeo in a Rolls Royce with strippers? I would not do that.
Business User
No.
Storyteller
It's just not a smooth move.
Gigi
He's trying to earn cool points with me. Plus, he was grieving.
Business User
Yep.
Listener
Yeah, with you.
Gigi
You know, people do strange things because of grief, but he was trying to have a bonding, memorable moment. And he was successful because it's memorable to you. It's just not a very pleasant memory.
Storyteller
All right, well, I'm glad we broke that down. Damn. And this is exactly why I didn't read that D magazine article that they wrote about me. Why? Just because it gets into all this bad stuff. Not about strippers and rodeos. I mean, the only rodeo that girl knows about is reverse cowgirl on her back.
Listener
If you want to read the article John's talking about, it is on our Facebook page. John Clay Wolf show. I put the link to. It's D Magazine, and they interview all kinds of CEOs of companies, and it's a great, great article about your history. Yeah, it really is.
Storyteller
Yeah.
Listener
You should read it one time. I know you don't want.
Storyteller
I will at the right time.
Listener
Okay.
Gigi
He's being shy.
Storyteller
Yeah. I just don't want to read something that. I just want to put my head back there. If you don't know the truth. Because I know, like, one of my good friends read it and he like, wrote me back, said, dude, I started tearing up reading this because he's dragging him back through everything. I'm like, I don't want to read it.
Listener
Right.
Storyteller
I don't want to read it. It's weird.
Gigi
You lived it, so you don't need to read it. You lived it.
Storyteller
I think the reason my dad drug me along with him in my grandma's.
Listener
Roles, this was a big event.
Storyteller
Yeah.
Listener
The rodeo with these two strippers. Two strippers.
Storyteller
I think that he had a date with one of the strippers.
Listener
Okay.
Storyteller
I've been thinking about this since we talked about it.
Listener
Why bring you.
Storyteller
Why did he bring me into this mess now and I start putting myself back there? I think he had a date with one of them that he liked. And these gals, you would not know they were strippers if you saw them in plain. In plain light.
Listener
They weren't all Dolly Parton now. Okay.
Storyteller
I think that she wanted to bring her friend along, probably because she was being like, oh, I'll do it if I can come with my friend. And his. His wingman dropped out and he needed a placebo to stick in there. An autopilot. A co pilot.
Listener
Makes sense.
Storyteller
That make. I'm not saying it's a good idea.
Business User
No, but bring your son as a wingman.
Storyteller
That wouldn't. Yeah. Isn't that weird?
Listener
But that would make sense.
Storyteller
That's the only thing I can come up with. Could you do that?
Listener
Oh, my God.
Business User
With your kid?
Listener
Me? No. John. No. I know you would.
Storyteller
I saw a friend of mine the other night. He was plenty drunk and he was. We were at a restaurant and he was with his son. He came in town to see his son that's going to college in the city, and his friends were there and they were going to go to the strip club together after dinner. Don't tell your mom. He was taking his kid and his friend. His son is 21 years old.

To the strip club. And I wanted to tell him, don't do that. I was that kid. I don't do that. You don't want to do that. But they were all about it.
Listener
Yeah.
Business User
Imagine JD Doing it with his son when he goes to the swingers thing.
Storyteller
If your dad ever took you to a strip bar at a young age, call in. I would like to the story quickly. I only have five minutes left. 8008-0072-3480-0800 radio.
Business User
That's so uncomfortable.
Listener
Oh, just. Yeah, hard to even think about.
Storyteller
Yeah, right.
Listener
My dad took me to a Playboy club in Chicago.
Storyteller
Here we go. There you go.
Listener
We were not on a date with two dancers at the rodeo.
Storyteller
That's what he's not as good at as my old man.
Listener
Exactly. We went to the Playboy club in Chicago. I still have a picture of me. I'm probably 16 years old. And the Playboy Playmate, they take the floor. Same thing back then. It was a Polaroid.
Storyteller
Yeah.
Listener
They took the. I still have it somewhere. And you can see me and I have my arms all pulled in like. I don't want to touch her accidentally.
Storyteller
So do you think he was trying to cool you up?
Listener
Yeah, maybe he was trying to cool me up a little bit.
Storyteller
Yeah.
Listener
This is how dad operates in Chicago. My dad lived in Chicago.
Business User
My grandfather took me as a grandfather, took me to a belly dance like thing. Yeah, that was kind of.
Storyteller
And this is what I've always. I'm sorry to cut you off, Michael, but I've always said you got to watch these impressions because they brand on kids so hard.
Listener
Oh, yeah.
Storyteller
Michael sent his wife to belly dance school five years ago. That's true.
Gigi
I love that. She like it?
Business User
Yeah, no, she loved it. And I think I have to give credit to my grandfather.
Storyteller
Yeah. It sticks in that bag in the back of your brain, man. That's so funny. That is too funny.
Business User
With a grandfather and you and your grandkids, I guess that's a little bit distance. You're kind of trying to be the cool granddad. I get that.
Storyteller
But. Yeah. When you get to the age that you realize that your dad looks at women in that way because, you know, all guys. Oh, man, did you see the ass on that one? You know, and how they talk to their friends. And when you hear. I'm sorry if I offended anybody. And when you hear that out of. Out of Your grandfather or your. He's talking to his friends or your father's mouth. What? What you say? What? Gigi, did you ever have a moment like that?
Gigi
No, I can't say that I have at all.
Storyteller
Are you gonna write me a Karen letter here after the show?
Gigi
I might have to do that. I just might have to.
Listener
Have you ever been to a strip club for guys where guys strip.
Gigi
No, I've never been to a strip club, period. That's why I keep saying we should all go together as a field trip. One with guys and one with women.
Storyteller
Have. Have you never been to strip club at all?
Gigi
No, I've never been. I think they would stink and smell like sweat and.
Storyteller
No, they smell like something. What is the something?
Listener
Like overdone cologne, right? Yeah, guys come out all oily and. I mean, I've heard.
Gigi
Well, look, I don't want to see that. That's like taking a starving person to a buffet but they can't eat.
John Clay Wolf
Well, it smells like a buffet in most of them.
Listener
Yeah.
John Clay Wolf
Wednesday night.
Listener
I've heard.
Storyteller
Allegedly.
John Clay Wolf
Wings and meatballs.
Gigi
I have never been told.
Storyteller
I've never been to a strip club in Vegas and I've heard that that is the deal. That's the deal, yes.
Business User
Been several.
Storyteller
I have a lot of calls coming in. We only have two minutes left. Hey, California, you're on the air real quick. Do you have a story for us?
Caller
Yeah, bro, my dad one time took me to tj.
Storyteller
Don't.
Caller
Cussing was awesome.
Storyteller
Don't cuss, but go ahead.
Caller
Yeah, I went to TJ with my dad, you know, and the story gone. It was quick, you know, it was all pretty crazy. But the story in tj, dude, it all. It's all crazy, dude. The stories are really true. How old women are really appreciative. And my dad was just like, hey, pick one, pick one.
Storyteller
How old were you?
Caller
I just came back. I was. I was 19 at the time.
Storyteller
All right, huh?
Caller
Yeah, it was crazy, man.
Storyteller
You enjoyed it?
Caller
What happened?
Storyteller
You enjoyed it?
Caller
I mean, it was a different experience, you know, being around my dad like that. But. But yeah, it was cool.
Storyteller
Wyoming, good morning, Cheyenne. Real quick. Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Caller
Hey, what's up, guys?
Storyteller
Not much. I got a minute left. Hit us with it don't cost.
Caller
All right. All right. Yeah. So I was 18 years old, just going to the strip club already. Big red flag. I had brought my 17 year old girlfriend, so I had to have her sit out in the car. But I'd gone into the strip club ready to, you know, just experience the first thing of being 18, turns out my cousin ended up working at the strip club without me knowing about it. And following up with that, I had no money to get in for the entry fee. So all these girls, you know, looking beautiful and all that just stared me down like I was that broke kid on his 18th birthday with no money in his pockets going to be his cousin at the strip club with his 17 year old girlfriend.
Storyteller
Creepy bastard. So were you in Wyoming when this happened? Was this Wyoming? You're. You're okay. It says you're from Cheyenne, Wyoming. So did this event take place in Wyoming?
Caller
Yes, it does.
Storyteller
Okay, that is a whole nother level of oddity. I have been there. I have been to a strip club in Wyoming and it is not what you're used to, man. It is not what you're used to at all. Rough Johnny, you know. Hey, board op in la. Stay with us for a second. We're not going to go off just yet and we might lose a couple of you other guys. You go to the podcast@jcwshow.com and grab it all. Johnny, have you been to other strip clubs outside of Wyoming?
Caller
I actually have not really been outside of Wyoming my entire life. Born and raised in Cheyenne and just kind of.
Storyteller
How old are you?
Caller
I'm 23.
Storyteller
Yeah, we need to like put up. We need to put a gofundme together. We got to get him out so he can see what I'm talking about. Because if that's all he knows. Your cousin was probably the shiniest thing in there. Yeah, I'm guessing. Is that true?
Caller
I wouldn't be able to tell. I never went back to that strip club afterwards. I was like, yeah, I think this is my omen. Stay away from anything like that for the rest of my life. Probably start going to church more.
Storyteller
Yeah, I mean, Bob, you haven't lived a full life until you've been to a strip club in Wyoming.
John Clay Wolf
I understand. Listen, I come from a pretty rural part.
Storyteller
No, this is worse, buddy. This is nothing like Wichita ball. Oh, this is a. It's just more. Very thick. Lots of biscuits and gravy. Lots of biscuits and gravy. That thiccc thing, that's tickler now. Sure, that's been going on up there a long time. It's girls that get off of. Off of ranches and cows, workers and. And it's just not. It's for different. Different strokes for different folk.
Gigi
Yeah, somebody likes it. That's right.
Storyteller
Why go out for steak and lobster when you got steakums in the fridge.
DJ Pre K
