Stephen Colbert
It's the late Show Poncho with Stephen Colbert. Welcome back, everybody. Ladies and gentlemen, my next guest is a comedian and an actor, you know, from hacks who now stars in the Netflix series Too Much.
Meg Stalter
This has all just been a series of red flags. I mean, when I came to find my English dream, I wanted to be in bed with like, Mr. Darcy or Hugh Grant from the British Jones Diaries.
Unknown Male Guest
Okay, did you just say British? Did you say British Jones?
Meg Stalter
Yeah, there's four of them.
Dermalogica
Yeah.
Unknown Male Guest
It's not called British Jones.
Meg Stalter
She's British. She has a diary. What are you talking about? You're just some guy with a random girl's name tattooed to your ass. And you're just. You don't even have an electric bill. You don't even know the difference between polyamory and monogamy.
Unknown Male Guest
What is the difference? They sound exactly the same.
Meg Stalter
It's really different. It's really different.
Stephen Colbert
Please welcome to the Late Show Meg Stalter. Hey, Steven.
Meg Stalter
How are you?
Stephen Colbert
I am good.
Meg Stalter
Must be serious actor night tonight.
Stephen Colbert
It must be. It must be. You know. Hello. Stay hydrated. Stay hydrated for this. A lot of people got to know you by you blew up on Instagram. I'll take that. Thank you. What we got in here?
Unknown Male Guest
What have we got in here?
Meg Stalter
There you go.
Stephen Colbert
Okay.
Meg Stalter
Hey, you never go through there. You don't know how many tampons might be in there if I'm on my big period.
Stephen Colbert
Yes. There you go. That's for you, young lady. There you go.
Meg Stalter
How have you been, Stephen?
Stephen Colbert
You know what? I've been really good. I've been on vacation, so I'm kind of jet lagged. How about you?
Meg Stalter
Where'd you go? Disney.
Stephen Colbert
Yeah, I did. How did you know that? I love that.
Meg Stalter
We saw the clips.
Stephen Colbert
Yes.
Meg Stalter
Come on now.
Stephen Colbert
We saw the clip on Space Mountain. Exactly. I'm terrified by Space Mountain. Are you scared?
Meg Stalter
That explains it. That was if I was wearing a shirt.
Stephen Colbert
I love your shirt. Meg Stalter is the prettiest girl in America. That's nice.
Meg Stalter
Well, so many people kept saying it, I thought it's about time to put it on a damn shirt.
Stephen Colbert
That's nice. Is that you on the shirt?
Meg Stalter
That's me. And I put my merch shirt on a corset I made in the car. I sewed it on myself.
Stephen Colbert
You made it in the car?
Meg Stalter
Yeah.
Stephen Colbert
On your way here?
Meg Stalter
Yeah.
Stephen Colbert
Wow, that's incredibly talented.
Meg Stalter
Oh, I've seen the talented. I look amazing.
Stephen Colbert
What'd you say?
Meg Stalter
I saw the screen up there and I look amazing.
Stephen Colbert
I love your hair.
Meg Stalter
Well, it's not real. I just went blonde.
Stephen Colbert
You started comedy? I started in Chicago. You started in Chicago?
Meg Stalter
I started in Chicago.
Stephen Colbert
Where did you perform?
Meg Stalter
So I performed a lot of Chicago people in the house.
Stephen Colbert
I'd say about 12.
Meg Stalter
It wasn't that.
Stephen Colbert
Yeah, it's not a lot. That's like 12. Yeah.
Meg Stalter
I had a lot of different stages in Chicago. Like, I did a lot of standup, and at one point, every time I did a standup show, I would be in my bra like it was sort of burlesque.
Stephen Colbert
Okay, sure.
Meg Stalter
Yeah. Dead silence. And then.
Stephen Colbert
We'Re just going through the old Rolodex.
Meg Stalter
Okay. And then I also used to have a bit where I would come on stage and I would be like, how's everyone doing tonight? And I would have fake blood dripping down my mouth. Oh, okay, I'm not doing it right now. Chill. And I would say, by the way, every time I'm nervous, my mouth bleeds. But I think I'm okay tonight. And I did it at the Laugh Factory, and nobody laughed, and everyone was scared. And I heard it was dead silent. And one person went, is she okay?
Stephen Colbert
So, Megan, were you ever a waitress?
Meg Stalter
No. Why did they react like that? You wouldn't want me to react because.
Stephen Colbert
They don't want me to ask you any questions.
Meg Stalter
What's your order? You wouldn't like that if I was a waitress. What could I get you? I was a waitress, and I was only good if I had one table. And you could tell, right?
Stephen Colbert
You could tell that's not a waitress. That's your hosting a dinner party and someone else is cooking.
Meg Stalter
Yes, but if I had one table, it'd be like, oh, my God, like, she's getting me everything I asked for. Like, she's so nice.
Stephen Colbert
She always remembers, did you wait tables?
Meg Stalter
Table? So if I had two tables, I'd forget stuff. If I had one table, I would remember everything. And then one time, someone. I forgot the refill because I had two tables, and they flipped their plate and they said, what do I have to do to get a refill around here?
Stephen Colbert
Well, you got the new series here. You're starting the new series. Too Much. Created by Lena Dunham.
Meg Stalter
Yeah. Ever heard? Ever, Honey.
Stephen Colbert
It says here that the show takes place in London. How long were you filming, and did you enjoy it?
Meg Stalter
That's a really good question. Thank you. Thank you so much.
Stephen Colbert
Thank you. So how'd you like London?
Meg Stalter
I think that London is so fun. And sometimes once in a while, you'll be eating breakfast and you'll go, get me out of here. Yeah.
Stephen Colbert
Cause you don't. Because you don't.
Meg Stalter
The breakfast is weird.
Stephen Colbert
Oh. Because they have beans and, like, dried fish and stuff like that.
Meg Stalter
Yeah.
Stephen Colbert
You don't care for them.
Meg Stalter
I haven't tried the dry fish.
Stephen Colbert
You didn't try kippers? The dry fish Breakfast. Yeah, baby.
Meg Stalter
Okay.
Stephen Colbert
Yeah.
Meg Stalter
I have to go back.
Stephen Colbert
Oh, yeah. Season two. Is it gonna be a season two? Do we know yet?
Meg Stalter
