So this year I did a little something. I'm working in Atlanta right now, so some of my friends from New York came down to Georgia and we rented a house on Lake Lanier and we had a little lake weekend. It was gorgeous. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Oh, did we? Yes, we did.

You had a good time?

Yeah, we had a great time. The host was less impressed with the fun time we had.

Okay. What'd you understudy?

I was in a show called Next to Normal.

2009. Okay, so you were 19.

[Devin]

Imagine if I was 29. I was. Yeah.

That's a good gig. An understudy on Broadway.

It was great.

I've never been an understudy on Broadway. Is that fun?

[Devin]

It's so fun, but it's really hard.

[Meghan Fahey]

Cause you have to know everything and you don't get to do anything.

[Devin]

Yeah, I think. Exactly. And you always have to be ready to do everything without having done the thing in a long time in case.

[Meghan Fahey]

The person you're understanding breaks their leg or something like that.

[Devin]

Yeah, exactly.

[Meghan Fahey]

Do you get the perks? One of the things that people who are doing Broadway often say is like, oh, it's great when an X or Y star came back and I was so wonderful that Meryl Streep or Lily Tomlin or whatever, Tom Cruise came back to say hi. Does the understudy get that? Or are they like, no, get away from me, you odious child. Give me the star.

[Devin]

Well, the thing that's actually so special is because it is true, if people come to see the show, they like to come back and say hi. But if you're the understudy, it's like you weren't in it, so you're less interesting. Just, you know. But Jennifer Garner came to see the show and I was still the understudy and I was just really taken with her because she was so. She took such an interest in me and she really didn't have to do that.

[Meghan Fahey]

She's the best. She's lovely. She was our babysitter.

[Devin]

Yes. I heard this.

[Meghan Fahey]

Yeah.

[Devin]

Yeah. That's so cool.

[Meghan Fahey]

It is, yeah.

[Devin]

She really is the best.

Yeah, yeah. I'm just agreeing. I don't know what else to say. I don't know why they're laughing. She's the best. No, neither Jen is absolutely the best.

Exactly. Did you babysit when you were like. Were you a young actress taking. Cause she was an actress. I had no job and she had no job. We'd done a show together. She was like, I need a gig.

[Devin]

You had no job and you still needed a babysitter. I'm sorry.

[Meghan Fahey]

We had both just been in Spin City and the show was over. Like we had.

[Devin]

Which is very cool, by the way. I'm sorry I had to say that.

[Meghan Fahey]

No, no, you absolutely. But I did have a baby, so occasionally my wife and I wanted to be dinner.

[Devin]

Yes. By the way, she has four kids.

[Meghan Fahey]

That's how you get a second baby. Yes.

I don't have a kid.

You don't have it. Exactly. I know that. That's a full time job in and of itself.

So as you guys could tell from the clip, Devin is got. She's a little angry at her sister.

[Meghan Fahey]

Your character, Devin. Yes.

So she shows up to sort of try to convince her sister to come home and help with their sick dad, and her little sister wants nothing to do with it. And Julianne Moore plays this sort of ethereal, potentially cult leader woman.

Like that place we were just seeing is like a cult, potentially. We don't know.

[Devin]

Yeah, you'll have to tune in to find out.

But I think Devin, my character thinks it is a cult and so becomes very intent on sort of extracting her sister from that environment.

I'm kind of a cult fan, so.
