Stephen Colbert
Hi, Becca. I'm Stephen Colbert. It's a pleasure to meet you.
Becca
Hi, so nice to meet you. I'm Becca. I'm here with Stephen Colbert on the Late Show Pod Show.
Stephen Colbert
One of my favorite things, one of the most relaxing sort of contemplative things that we do here is get into this little gray booth here. Hopefully I've worn deodorant. And we reminisce about things that just recently happened.
Becca
Yes, yes. And this is, you know, we do these at the end of the run. I'm on my last wire. I don't know about you, brother.
Stephen Colbert
I am done.
Becca
I am cooked.
Stephen Colbert
I am vapor. There's fire in the hole, but nothing left to burn.
Becca
Yeah, but the best thing about this particular break is that everyone feels that way. But also everyone's making cookies. Everybody's dropping off, like, beautiful gifts.
Stephen Colbert
Where are these cookies?
Becca
The cookies are coming tomorrow because you already.
Stephen Colbert
And they said, what's the cookie situation?
Becca
Yeah, you stopped by the cookie nook.
Stephen Colbert
Yeah, I stopped by the cookie nook.
Becca
Kara, the writer assistant, makes amazing cookies every year.
Stephen Colbert
I make cookies too. Don't you?
Becca
I make cookies. I make waffles. I'm trying to put some cookies together.
Stephen Colbert
What's Maya do? Does Maya step up with any bakers?
Becca
I make compotes. Remember the compotes that Maya makes? It's like a peach compote.
Seth Meyers
Yes.
Becca
Maya puts some fruit slow cooked into little jars, and it's really nice.
Stephen Colbert
Hot fruit.
Becca
Yeah, hot fruit. But everyone's dropping off gifts. Everybody's so nice. The props department gives out little keychains every year.
Stephen Colbert
Love my keychain. It's a bottle opener. Every day.
Becca
It's a bottle opener. One time it was a mini tape measure.
Stephen Colbert
Oh, yeah.
Becca
I use that for everything. I still have that at a vintage store. And I need a little, like, photo frame. I can be like, oh, is this 4x6? Whip out my prop. Thanks, Nikki. Thanks, Nikki from props. But it's a great time of year at the late show. Even if everybody's a little bit fried, I think everyone's looking forward to some Christmas time.
Stephen Colbert
Some time off I've had for two of my guests for Evie and then.
Seth Meyers
Shoot.
Stephen Colbert
Who else? Who else did I give eggnog to? Oh, Sabrina Carpenter. Was that it? No, we had espresso. That was espresso martini.
Becca
Mi espresso martini.
Stephen Colbert
I've been. Oh. Because I. But I house the eggnog because I wanted her to do me eggnogo.
Becca
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Stephen Colbert
Exactly.
Becca
Yeah.
Stephen Colbert
I've been drinking a fair amount of eggnog recently on the show with a good punch of rum.
Becca
You an eggnog guy?
Stephen Colbert
I got my nog on.
Becca
I love nog.
Stephen Colbert
I'm. I'm. I'll meg my. I'll. I'll megma nut.
Becca
Yeah, yeah. I get a little. We get the, like the full nutmeg and shave a little bit on top.
Stephen Colbert
No way.
Becca
Yeah.
Stephen Colbert
What year is it? I know. Does your Coca Cola still have cocaine in it?
Becca
That seems like a really old fashioned thing to do.
Stephen Colbert
I love that people say that we should go to a gold standard, like just get rid of currency and like have paper currency. I'm like, how are you gonna pay for a latte? You're gonna bring in one of those, like a bar of gold and a nutmeg shaver and just sprinkle it.
Becca
Yeah, A little microplane.
Stephen Colbert
Yeah, exactly.
Becca
Yeah. Well, today on the podcast, we got somebody who's so much fun and someone you have been on a podcast with before. This is a friend from Strike Force Five.
Stephen Colbert
Oh, Seth.
Becca
This is Seth.
Stephen Colbert
Yeah, this is Seth Meyers. Yeah, sure.
Becca
Colbert Questionnaire.
Stephen Colbert
That was a fun Colbert questionnaire.
Becca
And this is an extended version of it. So it's a little bit more of a bonus fun. Just a little more flow in your convo.
Stephen Colbert
Yes, ma'am.
Becca
This is Seth Meyers taking the Colbert.
Stephen Colbert
Questionnaire a closer look. Hey, everybody, welcome back. You know, you know who that is? That's Seth Meyers, everybody. And Seth, you know it's no secret I'm a fan and I'm a friend.
Seth Meyers
Yes.
Stephen Colbert
And even though we've been able to spend quite a bit of time with each other recently in person and over the zooms for Strike Force Five. There you go. There's only so much you can know someone without actually putting that extra effort into it. And I like to do that here with my very special guests. And you're one of first time you're here.
Seth Meyers
Yeah.
Stephen Colbert
And so we've created something called the Colbert Questionnaire, which is a series of 15 questions that have been. They were actually grown in a lab and then harvested and put onto paper here. And each one of them actually grafts onto the soul of the guest and then communes. To me, the true nature of that person. And the danger here, Seth, is that once you answer these questions, you are fully known by the world. Do you have the courage to be known? Yeah.
Seth Meyers
All I've been waiting for is an invitation.
Stephen Colbert
Seth Meyers, what is the best sandwich?
Seth Meyers
Chicken parm. Chicken parm's the best. Nice.
Stephen Colbert
Yeah. How much bread is my issue with chicken parm?
Seth Meyers
I think that's a fair issue.
Stephen Colbert
What? Cause, you know what I mean, you had the mortar. Too much bread.
Seth Meyers
You know what? I'm not just going to back off and change my answer, but the more you talk about it, the more bummed I am. That was my answer. I've seen a bunch of these. Do you immediately start laying in to people about their truth?
Stephen Colbert
No, no. I just. Sometimes it just sparks something in me because I go, that's a delicious sandwich. But I imagine trying to get my mouth around the chicken parm. You kind of have to go in on one, an angle on a corner, and you work your way. And you kind of work your way through the sandwich like this. Rather than chomp, chomp, chomp, you kind.
Seth Meyers
Of go, ka, ka, ka, ka, ka, ka, ka, ka. I'm never going to have one again.
Stephen Colbert
What was your first concert you attended?
Seth Meyers
My father took us to see the Temptations. Yeah.
Stephen Colbert
Wow, that was really good. What, like, what version of the Temps? What your.
Seth Meyers
Yeah.
Stephen Colbert
I don't.
Seth Meyers
I mean, I think we're like late 80s.
Stephen Colbert
Okay.
Seth Meyers
So not. Maybe not a ton of original Temptations.
Stephen Colbert
Do you have a favorite Temptation song?
Seth Meyers
I think maybe Ain't too proud to beg is maybe my. And, you know, the best thing was meeting all the other kids my age. I'm just kidding. There were none. You know what? The first one I went to without my parents, I saw Vanilla Ice. Yeah.
Stephen Colbert
Ice, Ice, baby.
Seth Meyers
He did that.
Stephen Colbert
Ding ding ding, ding da ding ding.
Seth Meyers
He did that. And then. I don't remember.
Stephen Colbert
What is the scariest animal?
Seth Meyers
I think a. Like a platypus. Cause like, what. Like, what are you. What's your game here? You know what I mean?
Stephen Colbert
Sure, yeah, sure. Also, they've got that venomous spike on the back of one of their legs.
Seth Meyers
I'm just like. I know everybody's like, oh, alligator bear. If you walked in to your kid and a platypus was on the floor, that's it and game over.
Stephen Colbert
Apples or oranges?
Seth Meyers
Like orange, if you'll peel it. Will you peel it?
Stephen Colbert
I'll split like an orange. Like an orange orange. Or can I go like tangelo?
Seth Meyers
Whatever you want to do. And I'll split it with you. But don't make me do the whole.
Stephen Colbert
Have you ever asked someone for their autograph?
Seth Meyers
I have. I. My parents used to bring us to Boston to see shows, and I remember we saw Cats and the boxer. Marvelous Marvin Hagler was at Cats. And we got you.
Stephen Colbert
How old are you here?
Seth Meyers
Gosh, eight, nine.
Stephen Colbert
And you're like, I want Marvin Hagler's autograph.
Seth Meyers
My dad's like, go get his autograph.
Stephen Colbert
So you were an autograph mule. You weren't the actual person, but it was.
Seth Meyers
And I'm so bummed I lost it. Because I will say the best place to get a. A Marvelous Marvin Hagler autograph is on a cat's playbill. Because those are. I don't know if you guys remember Marvel. Those are two different worlds. Yeah.
Stephen Colbert
Yeah. What do you think happens when we die?
Seth Meyers
I think this is it. But it makes me meaning the world.
Stephen Colbert
As we see it.
Seth Meyers
No. Yeah. Like, I don't think there's anything after we die. But that is why you gotta find it here. Like, you have to. You can't count on anything after this. You gotta make everything here count. You gotta find heaven here. Heaven on earth.
Stephen Colbert
Answer would be nothing. The answer had to be nothing.
Seth Meyers
Yeah. Yeah. You know, I felt like nothing was negative. I kind of liked the way I did it. You know what? I'm not sharing my orange with you.
Stephen Colbert
You don't like apples? Really?
Seth Meyers
I mean.
Stephen Colbert
I mean, are you stuck on, like, red deliciouses? Have you tried a food shop? Have you tried a food shop?
Seth Meyers
I don't like apples. I'm not gonna sit here and pretend now. Cause you're like, you know, I'm like, oh, no, I do. I don't.
Stephen Colbert
Sometimes I have to press the person on the answer to see if they really believe it.
Seth Meyers
You can tell. But that's this whole thing. You knew I was lying, and I want you to know I don't like apples. Don't give me one.
Stephen Colbert
Okay. Favorite action movie.
Seth Meyers
Do you count Raiders of the Lost Ark?
Stephen Colbert
Of course.
Seth Meyers
Okay, great. Some people would say, like, no, that's adventure. But that's my favorite action.
Stephen Colbert
Of course it's an action movie.
Seth Meyers
I was recently on a plane and I watched the first half of Raiders through the seats on somebody else's screen until I was like, I got it on my. What am I doing? Like, I was just. And I wasn't planning on it. I was just like, oh, that scene's great. Again, like nobody.
Stephen Colbert
You've seen it so many times that you've got the soundtrack and the dialogue, everything you need here.
Seth Meyers
But then it was better and I put it in. The reason I hadn't watched it, my son was sitting next to me and I didn't. I was like, maybe it's too adult. I didn't want him to, like, you know. And he was watching a cartoon on his. But I didn't want him to watch mine if it was scary. And I swear to God, he was just so locked on it. And then his movie ended, like, right as they opened the Ark of the Covenant. Like, people's faces. He was like, what's dad watching? It's like.
Stephen Colbert
Well, speaking of planes, window or aisle?
Seth Meyers
You know what? As I get older, I like an aisle. Cause I just think I'm gonna have to go to the bathroom.
Stephen Colbert
Right? I don't wanna go. Excuse me, I need to.
Seth Meyers
Yeah, I don't wanna do that. Especially at a long flight where they might be asleep, you know, and then you gotta wake em up to like, get out. Yeah, yeah.
Stephen Colbert
Would you wake up, please? I'm Seth Meyers.
Seth Meyers
Yeah, I'm Seth Meyers. And I had too much water.
Stephen Colbert
Favorite smell, spicy.
Seth Meyers
I like to smell like a plate of spicy food before I eat it. It makes my mouth water like a spicy. My wife's from New Mexico. And so there we go. Like green or red chili enchiladas. When the plate comes and you already are like, oh, I'm gonna be like, yeah, yeah, great.
Stephen Colbert
And the steam too.
Seth Meyers
Yeah, Everything about it. Yeah.
Stephen Colbert
Wow. Least favorite smell, chlorine pool. Wow. So as opposed to the ocean. Oh, okay. I mean, so, like. But I guess there are pools that don't use chlorine.
Seth Meyers
I mean, I guess I didn't want to just throw it on pools because I think chlorine's the problem.
Stephen Colbert
So I guess I always thought chlorine would be a lovely name for a daughter. This is my daughter, Chlorine. Doesn't that seem nice?
Seth Meyers
Yeah, yeah.
Stephen Colbert
Earliest memory.
Seth Meyers
I don't. I have a memory of my parents were playing the Rolling Stone song Miss yous. Do you know that song, Miss you? Yeah. And my brother and I, for some reason, we were very little and we were naked at the foot of their bed and we were just shaking our butts to that song. And I remember, for whatever reason, my parents then every time that song played. They said it was the cause. Oh. We were pretending to be ghosts. I think we had, like, pillowcases on our head, but we were naked from the waist down, so we were like butt ghosts. And my parents called it the B Buns ghosts. And the thing about it, as I remember the earliest memory, like, years later, when I heard in my head, that was the B Buns ghost song. And then when I heard it, I'm like, wait, this is a Rolling Stone song and it has nothing to do with butts or ghosts.
Stephen Colbert
Weren't you playing that song earlier? There we go.
Seth Meyers
That was what unearthed it, right? Yeah.
Stephen Colbert
Cats or dogs?
Seth Meyers
Dogs.
Stephen Colbert
Okay. You only get. You only get one song to listen to for the rest of your life. What is it? You don't have to listen to it, you know, all the time, but when you go to listen to music, this is what you hear.
Seth Meyers
All right, I'm. It's. I'm not just saying because I know we're. We share a great love of John Prine, but I think angel from Montgomery is a perfect song.
Stephen Colbert
Sure. His version. Bonnie Raitt. What are we talking here?
Seth Meyers
You know what? I love the Bonnie Raitt version, but give me the John Prine version. I remember as a kid hearing John Prine start a song, I am an old woman, and thinking, that was so novel and unique. And it was. It's cooler because it comes from him.
Stephen Colbert
Do you know who wrote the first review of John Prine?
Seth Meyers
Roger Ebert.
Stephen Colbert
That's right.
Seth Meyers
Yeah. There you go.
Stephen Colbert
Let's move on. Thought it was going to be my cool story. Turned out it was your cool story. Well, you're the guest.
Seth Meyers
Do you know. Do you know. Do you know what Cary Grant's name was? Archilli.
Stephen Colbert
What? Do you know that he made his American debut on this stage?
Seth Meyers
I've never done that with the cards before. What you do. That's so good. Yeah. Oh, I can't wait to use that with a guest.
Stephen Colbert
What number? What? What number am I thinking of?
Seth Meyers
5.
Stephen Colbert
No. Describe the rest of your life in five words.
Seth Meyers
Father, son, husband, brother, friend.
Stephen Colbert
