We're going to think through three questions. The first is going to be the why. All right? I have learned, you probably have learned as well, that unless you believe in the why behind your idea, it's not going to get executed. Okay? So I want us all to make those neural connections. Why is this goal that you've identified so important? Okay, why is it important? What is it going to mean to your business? The next question is, who? Who's going to execute it? Are you going to do it? Is somebody on your team going to do it? Are you going to hire somebody to do it? Who is going to execute? Okay, you need to walk out of here knowing the why and having a pretty good idea of the who. Then we'll have some conversation about the how. Right? We're going to talk a lot about how to get this stuff done, but it's okay if you don't have this fully answered. Okay, you can figure out the how, but what you need to know is the why, and you need to have a really good idea of the who. How are you going to get this stuff done?

"Who’s going to execute it? Are you going to do it? Is somebody on your team going to do it? Are you going to hire somebody to do it?" (A, 00:35)
"You can figure out the how, but what you need to know is the why, and you need to have a really good idea of the who." (A, 00:49)
“I want us all to make those neural connections. Why is this goal that you’ve identified so important?”
“You need to walk out of here knowing the why and having a pretty good idea of the who.”
This episode distills effective law firm marketing into three core preparatory questions. The host’s advice reflects an understanding that planning is far more than tactics—it’s about foundational purpose and accountability. Before spending resources on marketing, every law firm should be able to clearly articulate why they are marketing, who will ensure it happens, and how the plan will be executed, even if the last step gets fleshed out later.
For law firm owners:
Start with your “why,” choose your “who,” and don’t sweat the “how” just yet—the plan comes into focus once you’ve laid the right foundation.
