John Stamos
Hey there, it's me, John Stamos, in partnership with Cologuard. And a little birdie told me you're over 45. Listen, that's not old. It's really not. But it's an important age. If you're at average risk, that's when you start screening for colon cancer. And look, it's okay to be nervous, but it's not okay to ignore your own health. It's time to see if the Cologuard test can be an option for you to get screened. All right, I'm glad we had this little chat.
Ainsley Earhart
Hello everyone, this is Ainsley Earhart. Thank you for joining me for episode 45 of the 52 episode podcast series, the Life of Jesus. We will begin this podcast with the second chapter of Hebrews. It is one of the most enlightening books of the New Testament where the ministry of Christ is concerned. It clarifies his life, death and resurrection by explaining the spiritual impact of each. It gives deep insight into the fact that Jesus is our high priest. No one knows for certain who wrote this book. Some say Paul, others say one of the men who traveled with him. Regardless who held the pen, God is the true author. Let's listen to a few chapters of Hebrews. More of the Life of Jesus next.

Hebrews Narrator 1
Therefore we must pay the closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. For if the message declared by angels was valid and every transgression or disobedience received a just retribution, how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us
Hebrews Narrator 2
by those who heard him, while God also bore witness by signs and wonders and various miracles, and by gifts of
Hebrews Narrator 1
the Holy Spirit, distributed according to his own will. For it was not to angels that God subjected the world to come of which we are speaking. It has been testified somewhere.
Hebrews Narrator 2
What is man, that thou art mindful of him, or the Son of Man,
Hebrews Narrator 1
that thou carest for him? Thou didst make him for a little
Hebrews Narrator 2
while lower than the angels. Thou has crowned him with glory and
Hebrews Narrator 1
honour, putting everything in subjection under his feet. Now, in putting everything in subjection to him, he left nothing outside his control. As it is, we do not yet see everything in subjection to him. But we see Jesus, who for a little while was made lower than the angels, crowned with glory and honour because of the suffering of death, so that
Hebrews Narrator 2
by the grace of God he might
Hebrews Narrator 1
taste death for everyone. For it was fitting that he for whom, and by whom all things exist in bringing many sons to glory, should make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through suffering. For he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified have all one origin. That is why he is not ashamed
Hebrews Narrator 2
to call them brethren, saying, I will proclaim thy name to my brethren in
Hebrews Narrator 1
the midst of the congregation. I will praise thee, and again I will put my trust in him.
Hebrews Narrator 2
And again here am I and the children God has given me.
Hebrews Narrator 1
Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same nature that through death he might destroy him who has the power of death, that is the devil, and deliver all those who, through fear of death were subject to lifelong bondage. For surely it is not with angels that he is concerned, but with the descendants of Abraham.
Hebrews Narrator 2
Therefore he had to be made like
Hebrews Narrator 1
his brethren in every respect. So that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God to make expiation for the sins of the people. For because he himself has suffered and been tempted, he is able to help those who are tempted. Therefore, holy brethren who share in a heavenly call, consider Jesus the apostle and high priest of our confession. He was faithful to him who appointed
Hebrews Narrator 2
him, just as Moses also was faithful in God's house.
Hebrews Narrator 1
Yet Jesus has been counted worthy of as much more glory than Moses.
Hebrews Narrator 2
As the builder of a house has more honor than the house. For every house is built by someone.
Hebrews Narrator 1
But the builder of all things is God.
Hebrews Narrator 2
Now Moses was faithful in all God's house as a servant to testify to the things that were to be spoken later. But Christ was faithful over God's house as a son. And we are his house if we hold fast our confidence and pride in our hope. Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says today,
Hebrews Narrator 3
when you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion on the day of testing in the wilderness where your fathers put me to the test and saw my works for 40 years. Therefore I was provoked with that generation and said, they always go astray in their hearts. They have not known my ways as I swore in my wrath. They shall never enter my rest.
Hebrews Narrator 1
Take care, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God. But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called today, that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. For we share in Christ if only we hold our first confidence firm to the end.
Hebrews Narrator 2
While it is said today, when you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.
Hebrews Narrator 1
Who were they that heard and yet were rebellious? Was it not all those who left Egypt under the leadership of Moses?
Hebrews Narrator 2
And with whom Was he provoked 40 years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? And to whom did he swear that they should never enter his rest? But to those who were disobedient to so we see that they were unable
Hebrews Narrator 1
to enter because of unbelief.
Hebrews Narrator 2
Therefore, while the promise of entering his
Hebrews Narrator 1
rest remains, let us fear lest any of you be judged to have failed to reach it.
Hebrews Narrator 2
For good news came to us just as to them.
Hebrews Narrator 1
But the message which they heard did
Hebrews Narrator 2
not benefit them, because it did not meet with faith in the hearers.
Hebrews Narrator 1
For we who have believed enter that
Hebrews Narrator 2
rest as he has said. As I swore in my wrath, they shall never enter my rest. Although his works were finished from the foundation of the world. For he has somewhere spoken of the seventh day in this way. And God rested on the seventh day from all his works. And again in this place he said, they shall never enter my rest. Since therefore it remains for some to enter it, and those who formerly received the good news failed to enter because of disobedience.
Hebrews Narrator 1
Again he sets a certain day today,
Hebrews Narrator 2
saying through David, so long afterward, in
Hebrews Narrator 1
the words already quoted today, when you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.
Hebrews Narrator 2
For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not speak later of another day. So then there remains a sabbath rest
Hebrews Narrator 1
for the people of God.
Hebrews Narrator 2
For whoever enters God's rest also ceases from his labors, as God did from his.
Hebrews Narrator 1
Let us therefore strive to enter that
Hebrews Narrator 2
rest, that no one fall by the
Hebrews Narrator 1
same sort of disobedience.
Hebrews Narrator 2
For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and spirit, of joints and marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Hebrews Narrator 1
And before him no creature is hidden,
Hebrews Narrator 2
but all are open and laid bare to the eyes of him with whom
Hebrews Narrator 1
we have to do. Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God. Let us hold fast our confession, for
Hebrews Narrator 2
we have not a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses,
Hebrews Narrator 1
but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Hebrews Narrator 2
For every high priest chosen from among men is appointed to act on behalf of men in relation to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. He can deal gently with the ignorant and wayward, since he himself is beset with weakness. Because of this he is bound to offer sacrifice for his own sins as well as for those of the people, and one does not take the honour upon himself. But he is called by God, just as Aaron was. So also Christ did not exalt himself to be made a high priest, but
Hebrews Narrator 1
was appointed by him who said to
Hebrews Narrator 3
him, thou art my son, today I have begotten thee, thou art a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek in
Hebrews Narrator 2
the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications with loud cries
Hebrews Narrator 1
and tears to him who was able
Hebrews Narrator 2
to save him from death.
Hebrews Narrator 1
And he was heard for his godly fear. Although he was a son, he learnt obedience through what he suffered, and being
Hebrews Narrator 2
made perfect, he became the source of
Hebrews Narrator 1
eternal salvation to all who obey him,
Hebrews Narrator 2
being designated by God a high priest
Hebrews Narrator 1
after the order of Melchizedek.
Hebrews Narrator 2
About this we have much to say, which is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing. For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first, first principles of God's Word. You need milk, not solid food. For everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for
Hebrews Narrator 1
he is a child.
Hebrews Narrator 2
Solid food is for the mature, for those who have their faculties trained by practice to distinguish good from evil. Therefore let us leave the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, with instructions about ablutions, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. And this we will do if God
Hebrews Narrator 1
permits,
Hebrews Narrator 2
For it is impossible to restore
Hebrews Narrator 1
again to repentance those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly
Hebrews Narrator 2
gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the goodness
Hebrews Narrator 1
of of the word of God and
Hebrews Narrator 2
the powers of the age to come, if they then commit apostasy, since they crucify the Son of God on their
Hebrews Narrator 1
own account, and hold him up to
Hebrews Narrator 2
contempt for land which has drunk the rain that often falls upon it, and brings forth vegetation useful to Those for whose sake it is cultivated receives a blessing from God. But if it bears thorns and thistles,
Hebrews Narrator 1
it is worthless and near to being cursed. Its end is to be burned.
Hebrews Narrator 2
Though we speak thus, yet in your case, beloved, we feel sure of better things that belong to salvation. For God is not so unjust as to overlook your work and the love which you showed for his sake in serving the saints, as you still do.
Hebrews Narrator 1
And we desire each one of you
Hebrews Narrator 2
to show the same earnestness in realizing the full assurance of hope until the end, so that you may not be
Hebrews Narrator 1
sluggish, but imitators of those who, through faith and patience, inherit the promises.
Hebrews Narrator 2
For when God made a promise to Abraham, since he had no one greater by whom to swear, he swore by himself, saying, surely I will bless you and multiply you. And thus Abraham, having patiently endured, obtained the promise. Men indeed swear by a greater than themselves, and in all their disputes an
Hebrews Narrator 1
oath is final for confirmation.
Hebrews Narrator 2
So when God desired to show more
Hebrews Narrator 1
convincingly to the heirs of the prophet
Hebrews Narrator 2
the unchangeable character of his purpose, he
Hebrews Narrator 1
interposed with an oath, so that through two unchangeable things in which it is
Hebrews Narrator 2
impossible that God should prove false, we who have fled for refuge might have
Hebrews Narrator 1
strong encouragement to seize the hope set before us.
Hebrews Narrator 2
We have this as a sure and
Hebrews Narrator 1
steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner shrine behind the curtain where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.
Hebrews Narrator 2
For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High God, met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him. And to him Abraham apportioned a tenth part of everything. He is first by translation of his name, King of righteousness, and then he is also king of Salem, that is, King of peace. He is without father or mother or genealogy, and has neither beginning of days nor end of life. But resembling the Son of God, he continues a priest forever. See how great he is. Abraham the patriarch gave him a tithe of the spoils. And those descendants of Levi who receive the priestly office have a commandment in the law to take tithes from the people, that is, from their brethren, though these also are descended from Abraham. But this man, who has not their genealogy, received tithes from Abraham and blessed him who had the promises. It is beyond dispute that the inferior is blessed by the superior. Here tithes are received by mortal men, there by one of whom it is
Hebrews Narrator 1
testified that he lives.
Hebrews Narrator 2
One might even say that Levi himself, who receives Tithes paid tithes through Abraham, for he was still in the loins of his ancestor when Melchizedek met him.
Hebrews Narrator 1
Now, if perfection had been attainable through
Hebrews Narrator 2
the Levitical priesthood, for under it the people received the law, what further need would there have been for another priest to arise after the order of Melchizedek, rather than the one named after the order of Aaron? For when there is a change in the priesthood, there is necessarily a change in the law as well. For the one of whom these things are spoken belonged to another tribe from which no one has ever served at the altar. For it is evident that our Lord was descended from Judah, and in connection with that tribe, Moses said nothing about priests. This becomes even more evident when another priest arises in the likeness of Melchizedek, who has become a priest, not according to a legal requirement concerning bodily descent, but by the power of an indestructible life. Or it is witnessed of him, Thou art a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek. On the one hand, a former commandment is set aside because of its weakness and uselessness, for the law made nothing perfect. On the other hand, a better hope is introduced through which we draw near to God.
Hebrews Narrator 1
And it was not without an oath.
Hebrews Narrator 2
Those who formerly became priests took their
Hebrews Narrator 1
office without an oath. But this one was addressed with an oath.
Hebrews Narrator 2
The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind.
Hebrews Narrator 1
Thou art a priest forever. This makes Jesus the surety of a better covenant.
Hebrews Narrator 2
The former priests were many in number
Hebrews Narrator 1
because they were prevented by death from continuing in office. But he holds his priesthood permanently because he continues forever.
Hebrews Narrator 2
Consequently, he is able for all time to save those who draw near to God through through him, since he always
Hebrews Narrator 1
lives to make intercession for them.
Hebrews Narrator 2
For it was fitting that we should
Hebrews Narrator 1
have such a high priest, holy, blameless,
Hebrews Narrator 2
unstained, separated from sinners, exalted above the heavens. He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people. He did this once for all when
Hebrews Narrator 1
he offered up himself.
Hebrews Narrator 2
Indeed, the law appoints men in their weakness as high priests. But the word of the oath, which came later than the law, appoints a
Hebrews Narrator 1
son who has been made perfect forever.
Hebrews Narrator 2
Now the point in what we are saying is this. We have such a high priest, one who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the majesty in heaven, a minister in the sanctuary, and
Hebrews Narrator 1
the true tent which is set up
Hebrews Narrator 2
not by man, but by the Lord. For every high priest is appointed to offer gifts and sacrifices. Hence it is necessary for this priest also to have something to offer. Now if he were on earth, he
Hebrews Narrator 1
would not be a priest at all.
Hebrews Narrator 2
Since there are priests who offer gifts according to the law, they serve a
Hebrews Narrator 1
copy and shadow of the heavenly sanctions.
Hebrews Narrator 2
For when Moses was about to erect the tent, he was instructed by God,
Hebrews Narrator 3
see that you make everything according to the pattern which was shown you on the mountain.
Hebrews Narrator 1
But as it is, Christ has obtained a ministry which is as much more
Hebrews Narrator 2
excellent than the old as the covenant
Hebrews Narrator 1
he mediates is better, since it is
Hebrews Narrator 2
inactive on better promises. For if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion for a second. For he finds fault with them when he says, the days will come, says
Hebrews Narrator 3
the Lord, when I will establish a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah. Not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt. For they did not continue in my covenant, and so I paid no heed to them. This is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel. After those days I will put my laws into their minds and write them on their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. And they shall not teach everyone his fellow or everyone his brother, saying, know the Lord, for all shall know me, from the least of them to the greatest, for I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more.
Hebrews Narrator 2
In speaking of a new covenant, he treats the first as obsolete and what is becoming obsolete and growing old is
Hebrews Narrator 1
ready to vanish away.

Angels have appeared in movies and television shows since the medium of film came to be. Their characters have taken on many forms. A little old man who wants his wings. A handsome young man whose purpose is to help struggling people, a beautiful young woman who works for the good of the people to whom she is assigned. We see them pictured as strong warriors, chubby babies and golden haired beauties in flowing white robes. Only one of these is a correct representation. God's angels are certainly warriors. There is a misconception that seems widespread that human beings whose lives in this world have ended become angels in the next. This is not at all true. Scripture makes it clear that God created the human race and he created the angelic race. These are two very distinct kinds of beings. Angels are heavenly beings who serve God continually. They interact with humanity as ministering spirits, sometimes visible, sometimes not. They are heavenly assistants enabling God's children to achieve or overcome. They are messengers of God who have announced amazing acts of God in this world. And they are warriors fighting the powers of darkness in an ageless battle waged throughout the heavens. Father, thank you. Thank you for the angelic beings who serve you and assist your people. Help me to be aware of your continual actions in my life, sometimes through an angel sent by you. Episode 45: Touched By An Angel
Fox Audio Network | March 29, 2026
In this episode, the podcast journeys through the second chapter of Hebrews and explores the spiritual significance of Jesus as the High Priest. Through dramatic readings of scripture and reflection, the episode emphasizes Christ's divinity, His humanity, and the role of angels as ministering spirits. Special focus is given to correcting popular misconceptions about angels, contrasting cultural depictions with biblical teaching.
Ainsley Earhardt debunks popular myths about angels, emphasizing their biblical roles as warriors, messengers, and ministering spirits:
Angels and humans are distinct creations—angels enable, minister, and sometimes appear to believers for God's purposes, but do not become or originate as humans.
"God's angels are certainly warriors...They are messengers of God who have announced amazing acts of God in this world. And they are warriors fighting the powers of darkness in an ageless battle waged throughout the heavens." (Ainsley Earhardt, 27:11)
On Jesus’ Priesthood:
On Scriptural Faith:
On Angels:
The episode combines a reverent, scriptural tone in the narration with the accessible explanations and warm reflection characteristic of Ainsley Earhardt's hosting. Actor readings bring scripture to life with drama and clarity, while the reflective segment gently invites listeners to a biblically grounded understanding of angels.

Through immersive narration of Hebrews and thoughtful commentary, the episode challenges misconceptions, encourages fortitude in faith, and celebrates the hope, intercession, and grace made possible through Christ. Listeners are reminded of the continuous spiritual support available through both Christ’s priestly ministry and the often unseen work of angels.
