Burns are classified into three degrees: first-degree burns affect only the outer skin and can be treated with cool water; second-degree burns penetrate deeper and may blister, requiring careful management to prevent infection; third-degree burns are severe and necessitate immediate medical care, potential skin grafting, and hospitalization.
