Dr. Lisa Miller is a graduate of Yale and the University of Pennsylvania, where she earned her PhD in psychology. Dr. Miller is a professor of clinical Psychology at Columbia University. She has held over a decade of joint appointments in the Department of Psychiatry at Columbia University Medical School, and she is also the founder of the Spirituality, Mind Body Institute at Columbia, which is the first Ivy League graduate program dedicated to spirituality in psychology. She is also the editor of the Oxford University Press Handbook of Psychology and Spirituality and a Two time president of the American Psychological Association, Society for psychology and spirituality, Dr. Miller's innovative research has been published in more than 100 peer reviewed articles in leading journals including Cerebral Cortex, the American Journal of Psychiatry and the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent psychiatry. For decades, Dr. Miller has been looking at brain scans of people who are experiencing spiritual moments and seeing exactly what that looks like biologically and physiologically in the brain. Her research has shown that spirituality creates changes in your brain that protect against depression, substance abuse, anxiety and other mental illnesses. She is also the New York Times bestselling author of multiple books including the Awakened Brain, the New Science of Spirituality and Our Quest for an Inspired Life.
