Holly Worthington
Most of our stories get sent to us by our listeners, which we appreciate so much. But this is one I found in a news article and as soon as I read it I was like, holy cow. We have to share this and we have to talk to these people in person.
Emily Jones
Holy cow. Yes, we do. Yeah. This is an incredible story, is about a three year old boy. His name is Christopher. So cute, so sweet. He goes through something I can't even begin to imagine. But the miracle in the story is very clear.
Holly Worthington
Yeah. Yeah. And before we begin, if you haven't already subscribed to our podcast, make sure you do. So we post every single Monday except for the last Monday of the month.
Emily Jones
So yes, Miracle Mondays. Don't forget it.
Holly Worthington
Miracle Mondays.
Emily Jones
All right, let's start.
Holly Worthington
Let's do it.
Emily Jones
Christopher's tiny feet scampered down the sidewalk on that warm October afternoon in Plantersville, Texas. He didn't mean to disappear. But a dog ran past down the street and three year old Christopher did what any little boy would do. He chased after it. Christopher's mother, Araceli was in the middle of putting away groceries. Just a normal afternoon. At some point she gladly around and noticed things were a little too quiet. Her son Christopher had been there. Moments earlier, a woman sitting across the street motioned with her hand. Araceli didn't understand. What was she trying to say.
Araceli
I remember I don't see Christopher anymore. And I remember an old lady, he was our neighbor and she gave me like a signal with her hand. But I ignore her because I don't know what she means. And then I go inside and I ask my mom about Christopher. And she's like, christopher is with you. And say, no, he's not with me, he's with you. Then I realized the signal the old lady gave me. And I go over there. She was telling me that Christopher go that way. So I run as fast as I can. I was yelling, running and yelling, christopher, Christopher.
Emily Jones
The older woman described seeing the dog and the little boy run by. That's why she'd been trying to get Araceli's attention. Meanwhile, the dog kept running and Christopher's little feet followed, getting further and further away from home. For Araceli, panic kicked in. How could her 3 year old son just vanish into thin air? In desperation, she called the police. When they arrived, they moved quickly, calm but serious, taking statements, asking questions. Araceli and her husband answered everything they could, but their words felt empty, hollow. Other than a description of Christopher, they had no information to give the police only. I don't knows. Officers began working their way through the neighborhood and into nearby woods, calling Christopher's name, looking for any sign of movement. Araceli kept wanting to join the search, but the police wouldn't allow it. As the hours dragged on, her anxiety deepened.
Araceli
Then police told me, araceli, you need to stay at home. You cannot move from your house. Because if we have any information, we know where you are and right away we can catch you. So don't go outside. Just stay here. That's the only way we can find you. I cannot do nothing. It was the first night. I was crying like a baby.
Emily Jones
The sun dipped below the trees. Araceli got word that there had been a break in the case. The lost dog had returned. Araceli's hopes soared. Was Christopher still with the dog? But no. The news that followed hammered against Araceli's heart. Christopher was nowhere to be seen. What should have been a beautiful, clear, starry night felt cruel and punishing. This wasn't how it was supposed to be. How could Araceli possibly go to bed knowing her little boy was out there somewhere, scared and lost? She wouldn't.
Araceli
In the middle of the night, my husband, my parents, we went outside to find my boy. We said, we want to find him. It was very dark, but we don't care. We go outside and yell his name and everything, but we didn't.
Emily Jones
Araceli wandered through the streets and nearby woods, calling Christopher's name, sometimes in a whisper, sometimes in a scream. The trees in the woods seemed to mock her, refusing to tell her where she could find her son. Maybe Christopher was hiding. Maybe he had gotten scared and crawled somewhere to wait. Or maybe. Maybe someone had taken him. The idea made Araceli sick. She wasn't ready to let herself think about that. Not yet. That first night was unbearable. Araceli didn't sleep. Morning came and the hours, minutes, seconds passed excruciatingly slowly. Family, friends and neighbors joined the search.
Araceli
It was another day. Police told me, like, you have to go to the media and tell them what happened. And I have to go over the media and say, please help me. I need my boy. I was feeling somebody to him and I just need my boy back.
Emily Jones
As slowly as the moments ticked by, evening felt like it came again too soon. Araceli couldn't face another night with her baby out there somewhere. She couldn't handle the thought of his empty bed again, his sweet goodnight hug. Only a memory. It hurt too much.
Araceli
On the second night, I remember I went into the bathroom. I'm not proud of this, but I told and I asked God, I was so mad with him. And I said, why? Why my baby? He's an angel. He's just a baby. And telling him, please help me. You're the only who can help me. Nobody can do it. And I was just crying and praying.
Emily Jones
And mad as Araceli cried out in anger to God. In a neighboring county, a man named Tim Helfen, a stranger to Araceli, had finished his day. He was a hard working regional director for a local pharmacy. After work he'd run errands, filled up his car, had a quiet dinner with his wife. It was just another ordinary evening. He hadn't heard the news. As he turned off the lights and got ready for bed, he had no idea a three year old boy had gone missing. No idea that in a matter of days that story would pull him into the middle of something he couldn't explain. But for now, he slept soundly. Araceli, on the other hand, did not. The next morning, Araceli woke up numb. Her tears were long gone, dried sometime in the dark hours before dawn. The woods behind their neighborhood had been combed carefully with teams, dogs, maps and hundreds of people. Still nothing. The police kept working, but Araceli could see it in their eyes. Hope was fading. And then Araceli's phone rang. It was the police. They told her a child matching Christopher's description had been spotted at a hotel. They had even confirmed that the boy's name was Christopher. He was traveling With a man who matched the description that Araceli had given them of her ex husband, Christopher's biological father. The two were headed for the border, almost to Mexico. When authorities stopped them, Araceli's heart leapt. This felt like the moment they had been waiting for.
Araceli
Police find a boy in a hotel with his father and they sent me a picture.
Emily Jones
Araceli held her phone. She stared down at the screen. There was a little boy, large brown eyes staring back at her. Her breath caught in her chest. It wasn't her Christopher. She stared at the child, wishing her eyes were wrong. She had to tell the police that she didn't recognize the child. He wasn't her son. And just like that, the hope was gone again. That night, just a few miles away, Tim Halfon was at a Bible study group. The small group of Christians were chatting after Bible study when someone mentioned it.
Tim Helfen
So the night we had our small group, which was on a Friday, he went missing on Wednesday. My neighbor up the road, Matt, says, hey, Tim, you know that little boy who's gone missing really doesn't live that far from where we live. And I looked at him like, what are you talking about? What little boy? And everybody in that small group turned to look at me with their mouths wide open, like, you don't know. Because they had been posting. We used group me for a lot of our small groups, and they'd been posting on there, praying for little Christopher, all this. And I hadn't really been checking group me either. That's my wife's job. She let me know what's important on there, right?
Emily Jones
Tim was surprised that everyone had been praying for this little boy, and Tim hadn't even been aware that he was missing. But then another thought hit Tim out of the blue. Well, not exactly a thought. It was more than that.
Tim Helfen
And at that moment, the Holy Spirit told me, you will go look for that little boy tomorrow. Now, this wasn't the first time that the Holy Spirit had spoken to me like that. I was like, this is what you're going to be doing tomorrow. So, okay, so we had a prayer time at the end, of course. We prayed for little Christopher. And as it turns out, there were thousands of people praying for little Christopher everywhere.
Emily Jones
As night fell, Araceli lay awake, her mind replaying every moment of her son's disappearance. She had pleaded with God for help, but still felt angry that God would allow her son to be taken from her. In the middle of the night, her husband's cousin called. She didn't sound like herself at all. She Sounded strange, different.
Araceli
My husband's cosine. She called me and she told me, like, I know where is your baby. And then I say, where he is. Then her voice changed. I can explain you exactly how else, but it was like a male. It was another voice. And she said, he is with me.
Emily Jones
Araceli couldn't believe it. The cousin had Christopher. Why? But then she realized this wasn't the cousin's normal voice at all. It was like she was speaking as if with the voice of God.
Araceli
And I said, give me my baby. Why you have it? Why you took it? And then she told me very, calling me like a boss. Araceli, you don't understand. I have your baby. And everything I told God in that bedroom. He told me that voice told me. Then I knew it wasn't her. He was caught. And I said, I beg, like, please, please give me my boy back. Please, God, please help me. And I was just crying and crying.
Emily Jones
And then something even more extraordinary happened. Araceli was overcome not by fear or despair. She was overcome by peace.
Araceli
And then I remember I was in my room, I was crying, and I hear a voice telling me, this is the last night he's coming back.
Emily Jones
Tears of gratitude flooded into Araceli's eyes as the calm voice told her, christopher is coming home. Suddenly, Araceli pictured her little boy's face, dirty and tear stained. And she spoke to him.
Araceli
And I remember, I told Christopher, papi, please, please, this is the last night you want to be with Mommy again. You want to be back home. Please, Papi, please.
Emily Jones
The next morning, Araceli awoke with an unshakable resolve. She had faith that her son would be coming home today.
Araceli
And at 5 or 6am I go and take a shower. I can explain you how was my feeling like? Secure. How secure I was of this. I took a shower. My mom asked me, what are you doing? And I say, I need to be ready because I need to go with the hospital with Christopher, because they're going to find him today. I think people were thinking I'm crazy. But I was sure they're going to find him.
Emily Jones
Everyone around her shook their heads in concern at Araceli's confidence. It seemed as if Araceli were in denial that her little boy might never return home. Meanwhile, Tim Halfon also awoke with an unshakable resolve. He read from his Bible, prayed, and then put on some raggedy clothes. He had no formal assignment, no specialized gear, just a plea to God for guidance, a machete to cut through the thick woods And a compass of faith. Tim walked to the back door. His wife asked where he was going and he told her he was going to look for the lost boy. Tim and his wife lived on 15 acres of land. Tim stepped outside and walked to the edge of his property. He made his way to the woods. The forest was dense. Gnarled trunks pressed together. Brittle branches snapped beneath his boots. Tim knew he was miles away from the search area. The God pressed him forward. He scanned the ground. Looking into the brush, he listened.
Tim Helfen
Where we live is surrounded by thousands of wooded acres, very thick woods. It was a logging property and I've walked around that with my boys quite a bit. And so I was familiar with the land and where many of the logging trails went and even some of the game trails that are out there.
Emily Jones
Tim didn't really know what he was listening for exactly. Maybe a child's cry, maybe movement in the brush. He didn't even know where he was going. But he kept moving.
Tim Helfen
I'm about five miles away, so they weren't even looking anywhere near where I was. Now this is going into another day without water, without food, and he's three years old. I mean, three year old little boy out of the woods by himself where there are varieties of snake, water moccasins, copperheads, coral snakes, rattlesnakes, all kind of wildlife, you know, raccoons to possums to wild hogs to coyotes. All that's out here. I've seen every one of those things. I know they're out there.
Emily Jones
Back at the edge of the search zone, Araceli sat at home by the phone. She no longer had the strength to pace, only to wait. Her body was still, but her mind raced. Every time she closed her eyes, she saw Christopher's face. He was coming home today, she told herself. God had told her he was coming home.
Araceli
Police came at 8am I was outside with them and I asked her if she had any new or something for me. And she said, oh, no, ma', am, sorry, we don't have any new now. And I said, no, no, today you want to come and tell me that you find my boy? And she was like, really? And I said, yes, I'm sure, I'm sure.
Emily Jones
Araceli refused to let anything shake her faith. Back in the woods, Tim kept walking through the thick trees until he came to a clearing.
Tim Helfen
And so I go out and I said, okay, Lord, where do you want me to go? And so I'm walking around and of course I'm looking down at the ground to see if there's any prints in muddy or sandy areas. I mean, I found deer prints, raccoon prints, dog prints, no human prints. Now sort of look up this guy with a buzzard circling, you know, like, could he be dead? You know, I don't know.
Emily Jones
Suddenly, Tim heard something. A sound like nothing he'd ever heard before. He called out, hello.
Tim Helfen
It sounds like maybe an animal in distress. It's just like disturbing. Kind of a sound I'd never heard before. I think, well, that's odd. But now I'm really listening. I'm trying to hear a small child. So I keep walking. And I called my wife and said, hey, I'm out here. I think I might have heard something.
Emily Jones
His wife told him that she and a friend were praying for him. Tim hung up his phone. He walked and listened again. And then Tim froze. He heard another sound, but this time it was even stranger. It was barely audible. Not a voice, not an animal, not wind. It was almost like music. Light and strange and full of something angelic. There was no other word for it.
Tim Helfen
Very melodical, kind of lilting, kind of a string of sounds. They weren't words, but it sounded pretty. And think, okay, well, here I've heard two sounds. Really unique, different, never heard sounds.
Emily Jones
Tim called out, hello again. Then he pulled his cell phone out of his pocket and called the Grimes County Sheriff's Office. They said they would send someone out. Tim stood there waiting, still looking all around him. At last he saw two men arrive.
Tim Helfen
Finally. These guys, I could see them coming in the distance on their side by side. I believe a couple of them were from the sheriff's department. One might have been with the FBI, but they were looking haggard. These guys had invested sleepless days and nights. They were worn out there, exhausted and probably on the verge of giving up hope. And so they came, pulled up and I said, hey, you need to know I was at this Bible study last night, and Holy Spirit said, go look for that little boy. And that's what I've been doing. And I've heard now two sounds. And they're looking at him being like, really this kind of religious fanatic we're dealing with here pulling us off our church.
Emily Jones
Tim could see it in their eyes. They didn't believe him. But he trusted his own feelings more than he feared their judgment. So he carried on.
Tim Helfen
And so I pointed them in the direction where I had been walking. All the sounds I heard were over to the right, and I pointed. I said, I think the sounds came from up there. And so they drive up on her Side by side, and they're out yelling, christopher. Christopher. I said, oh, yeah, that's that boy's name. It's like, I don't know why I had this mental block with his name, but now I'm turned around, I'm walking back the other way.
Emily Jones
Tim made his way through the woods, his boots crunching fallen twigs and smashing underbrush. He walked about 50 to 75 yards when he heard another sound. Not angelic music this time, not singing. This was different. A sound, barely audible. Small. Human. A voice. Tim froze in place, every muscle tense. Holding his breath, he strained to listen.
Tim Helfen
Now I hear a sound like a little boy yelling out opposite from where I'd heard the other sounds. And so I said, hello? Christopher, is that you?
Emily Jones
Tim's heart kicked hard in his chest. He waited for a moment, then a child's voice, faint but unmistakable, and he responded.
Tim Helfen
And then I had to get confirmation, make sure I hadn't lost my mind, and yelled again. He responded, now I'm thinking I got to get to him.
Emily Jones
Tim could hear the voice, but Christopher was nowhere in sight. Tim scanned the thick, tangled foliage, straining to spot even the slightest flash of color. Maybe a shirt, a tuft of hair, anything. He began whacking away at thick, thorny underbrush. Then suddenly, something caught his eye.
Tim Helfen
And I see him probably 15ft in, and he's standing there like a soldier with his arms by his side, looking straight ahead with a look on his face like, I've been waiting for you. What's taking you so long? But I also noticed he doesn't have any clothes on. Nothing. No shoes on his feet. And so I go over and I pick him up, and he starts speaking in Spanish, and my Spanish is not very good, so I really didn't understand. I put him on my hip and we're walking. And I remember telling him, I said, little man, Jesus must really love you and have a great plan for your life.
Emily Jones
Araceli walked outside to see if the police had any news. Nothing yet, she thought. She then walked inside and put on a Christian song to listen to.
Araceli
And then when I go back inside the house, I took a Coke and I sit on the sofa, and right away I hear a voice telling me, araceli, Araceli. I go out and I tell the police to find him, right? And she was like, well, I don't know what to tell you, because one time we thought, we find him. And I don't want to make like another illusion. And I say, you don't understand. You find him. And she's like, really? And I said, yes, I'm sure she.
Emily Jones
Didn'T need the police to confirm it. God already had. In her heart, she knew her son had been found. This time it really was him.
Araceli
All the way. When I was in the police truck, all the way to go with Christopher, I was just saying, thank you, God. I know it was you. I know it's my baby. Thank you. All the glory is for you. And then when I saw my baby, all my body was shaking and my baby was with no clothes, no diaper, no nothing. And first thing he told me was, where is Iker? Iker is my older son. And I say, bobby, Iker is at home waiting for you. And he said, mom, I want a Coke.
Emily Jones
At the hospital, the doctors confirmed what Araceli already knew in her her son had come within hours of death. He was severely dehydrated. His body was shutting down. If he had spent one more night in those woods, just one more, he likely wouldn't have survived. But still, he was young and he would rebound. It was a miracle that he was found when he was. A miracle that he was found at all. In the days that followed, his story appeared on headlines. In church services, in whispered conversations, around kitchen tables. People said in awe, with wonder, like they were trying to wrap their minds around something that didn't make sense, because it didn't. A three year old child had survived alone in the woods for three days. No food, no shelter, cold nights, dense terrain, predators nearby, hundreds of trained searchers hadn't been able to find him. And yet somehow, a stranger with no map, no plan and no connection to the family had walked straight into the forest and found him just minutes before. It could have been too late. But for Araceli, it wasn't about headlines or explanations. She didn't care how people labeled it. All she knew was that her son was alive.
Araceli
When we went back to home. And the first time I saw Mr. Tim, I saw on his eyes it wasn't him. It was Jesus Christ. And I told Mr. Tim, it was not you, it was Jesus Christ on you.
Emily Jones
God had heard this mother's prayer, and Tim, he never tried to take any credit.
Tim Helfen
People say, oh, you're a hero. No, a hero is somebody who risks their life, puts themselves in danger. Okay, I had to go through some barbed wire and, you know, I had to go through some thorny bushes, okay, that's about the extent of my heroism. But anyway, in this case, Jesus was. I think angels were there to protect Christopher the whole time he was out. That's the sounds I heard. I know at this point it had to be an angel singing.
Emily Jones
Little Christopher's survival alone is miraculous. And how he was found even more so. The search team had scoured the woods. And yet Christopher was found, not by drones, dogs, or trained professionals, but by a man who had heard the voice of the Holy Spirit and obeyed. It was a miracle. Layer upon layer of divine intervention that can't be explained, only believed.
Holly Worthington
Okay, I have chills. Seriously, every time I hear this story, I'm just reminded that you really can't explain it, except that this was God.
Emily Jones
Yeah. Yeah. What amazes me the most is just how in tune he was with the Holy Spirit. Like the fact that he didn't even question it. He knew that's what God wanted him to do.
Holly Worthington
Yeah. That he just followed that voice straight to Christopher. And it made me think about how we want to put ourselves in places where we can hear the Holy Spirit. Because if. If we always have, like our music blasting or TV blaring, you know what I mean? It's hard to hear that voice. But he found a place for him. It was Bible study. It was quiet. And he was thinking about God and he was in a place where he was able to hear that spirit, that voice.
Emily Jones
Yeah, that's true. Another thing that he shared that he felt like God had inspired him and his wife to do was just even to buy that property.
Tim Helfen
So God had a bigger purpose. And I do believe that. I believe the Lord led us to buy this particular. I bought 30 acres originally.
Holly Worthington
It's that tapestry thing again, you know, where God weaves the threads all together in our lives. And sometimes it's so subtle that I think if we're not paying attention, we might just miss it altogether.
Emily Jones
Yeah. It amazes me to see the different ways that God shows up in our lives. Like, was very fascinating. The part about Araceli hearing God through her cousin.
Holly Worthington
Yeah.
Emily Jones
I was listening to this with my 9 year old daughter and she was like, mom, I'm so confused. Why was she saying that she had the baby? And I was trying to explain it to her.
Holly Worthington
I know. I can understand why that would be confusing to her because it was kind of hard for me to understand at first too. I was like, what? But it's so interesting because I think God communicates with all of us a little differently. And I think this is the way that RSL needed to hear the message that God had for her.
Emily Jones
Yeah. And even within the same story, Tim also heard God, but it was in a different way. Than Araceli. And I think something that makes this story even cooler is now Tim and this family have become really close.
Holly Worthington
Yeah. And Christopher definitely has a special place in Tim's heart. Like, their families spend, like, Christmases and birthdays together. And Tim believes God saved Christopher, Christopher for a reason. So he's doing all he can to support Christopher in fulfilling his purpose. And here's another clip that we really, really loved.
Tim Helfen
And the Lord laid on my heart and I bought him a Spanish Bible and gave it to him, put an inscription in it. But it's a daily prayer to prepare and protect Christopher Mirez for the works you've already ordained him to do to bring glory to your name.
Emily Jones
Isn't that so inspiring? Like, what a gift to give to someone that you just rescued. Samin.
Holly Worthington
Yeah. I'm sure he will always cherish that. And I just love getting to meet Araceli and Tim and Christopher. We got to meet. He was so cute. And before we end, Araceli had a message for Tim.
Araceli
I am so thankful with him, what he did and the voice he hear and he follows. And Mr. Tim was an angel for me and for Christopher. And I know there is no worse to say thank you to him, but he's such a good person and such a good angel for me in my life.

This episode of The Miracle Files tells the dramatic and miraculous true story of Christopher Ramirez, a three-year-old boy who disappeared after chasing a dog into the woods of Plantersville, Texas. Over several days, Christopher’s family, hundreds of searchers, and many communities prayed for his safe return. Against all odds, he survived alone in the wild and was found by a stranger, Tim Helfen, who felt called by the Holy Spirit to join the search, leading to an outcome his family and rescuers called a miracle.
The episode focuses on themes of faith, prayer, divine intervention, and the power of listening to God’s voice, offering hope and inspiration in the midst of fear and crisis.

Skeptical Authorities: When Tim met up with tired law enforcement, he told them plainly the Holy Spirit sent him. They were skeptical but let him proceed.
The Moment of Rescue: After tracking mysterious sounds, Tim finally heard a faint human voice—Christopher, naked and standing like a “soldier,” waiting to be found.

Recognition of Divine Intervention: Araceli tells Tim that she didn’t see him as the hero, but rather as an instrument of Christ:
“It was not you, it was Jesus Christ on you.”
—Araceli (25:19)
“In this case, Jesus was. I think angels were there to protect Christopher the whole time he was out. That's the sounds I heard. I know at this point it had to be an angel singing.”
