Welcome to the Neurodivergent Lens. I'm your host, Maryam Hassan and I see myself as a curious explorer of all things neurodivergent. I'm a psychotherapist, supervisor, trainer and Coach with over 25 years experience of working in mental health and well being. I was diagnosed with dyslexia as a mature student. Once at university, I struggled my way through school and college defending myself against labels such as stupid, lazy, easily distracted and my personal favourite, if only she tried harder. I thought such crippling experiences only belonged to me. But Fast forward to 20 years. There's a huge rise in self diagnosis and with up to 20% of the population being identified as neurodiverse, it still feels like there is so much misinformation, stigma and shame attached to neurodivergence. Join me and some very special guests as we dive headfirst into the lived experiences, research and conversations around neurodivergence. We'll question what we know, uncover what we don't, and we'll be focusing our lens and exploring important themes that plague neurodivergent individuals living in a neurotypical world. I'm so excited and grateful that you have chosen to join me. Whether you're neurodivergent or neurotypical, a skeptic or an ally, together I hope that we can challenge mindsets, raise awareness and keep the conversation going. Let's talk neurodivergence.
